Currently amused by the idea that Aang is a delinquent. Forget punk or prep, he has tattoos, he's constantly destroying public property, he's encouraging kids to run away from home, he's homeless, he has no qualms about lying or stealing, has gotten into street fights, skips school, acts out in class, and he has canonically gone to jail and made friends with the criminals there.
Short of drug use, he is the textbox definition of a delinquent, he just hides it with how fucking cute he is.

yknow I’m so over how ppl act like Aang’s views are childish or something. Aang is not immature for being a pacifist lmao. he doesn’t uphold the tenets of his culture because he’s too stupid to know better or something. like, this whole idea ppl have that a character is only cool or whatever if they kill ppl is just so stupid to me. Aang would not be a better character if he killed ppl. the entire concept of his character was for him to be from a peaceful time and culture, thrust into a violent world, which is kind of why he’s the main character. lol

“I know the world needs him but doesn’t he know how much that we need him too?” - Katara. The Awakening
I know the show focuses on the part of that sentence that talks about Katara’s dad and I love that moment. Seriously, one of the most heartbreaking in the whole show.
But since I’m experiencing a Kataang brain rot right now, all I can focus on is the part of her talking about Aang. And I feel like this line defines how she feels about him and their relationship going forward. I feel like she would ground him and say - “Hey, I know you belong to the world, but don’t forget that you belong to me too.” Saying I know you have to be there for the people and you have to give all of yourself to the world, but don’t forget that you have to come back to me at the end of the day.
And I can see them, after a long day of trying to solve all the problems in the word, she’d say - that’s enough worrying about the world for today, now shower me with attention and Aang’s all like “YES MA’AM!”. Cause I know after years of being the Avatar he’d became more serious and burdened, so Katara is the one to bring him fun and joy, and remind him of who he is, just like he did to her when they first met. She’d remind him he’s not just the Avatar, he’s also Aang, her Aang.
Ok I’m gonna go cry now.

Netflix Aang doesn't save Kyoshi Island because Kyoshi herself does that, doesn't save the Senlin Village from Hei Bai, doesn't save Makapu from the volcano because 'The Fortuneteller' was cut, doesn't get his friends out of Bumi's trap because they were busy incesting it up in the Cave of Two Lovers, doesn't resolve any differences between warring tribes, doesn't help the refugees at the Northern Air Temple liberate themselves because they live in Omashu now for some reason, doesn't stand up to Pakku and teach Katara waterbending in secret, and doesn't even attempt to waterbend at all.
What an insult to Aang as a character and what an insult to Book 1 to say they needed to "make his narrative drive clearer" and then have him do absolutely nothing in the live action. Aang wasn't just running around "looking for adventures" - he was forming meaningful connections with characters who all came back to help him in some way or another because he inspired them, he supported them, he freed them, etc. He was learning how to navigate the landscape of a world that was hugely politically and socially different than the one that he grew up in, and he did so by interacting with people from all across the globe.
It's also such a disservice to the other characters to give Aang so little influence and agency. Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors left their home because they were inspired by the Gaang's tenacity and bravery. People who had formally isolated themselves for a century came out of hiding and joined the war efforts because of Aang. Having Kyoshi herself be the one to save the island takes away the meaningfulness of Suki seeing kids her age doing something to combat the war. And this is just one example of Aang's leadership and impact as the Avatar, an air nomad honoring his culture, and an all around charming and likable kid. How pathetic is it that Netflix doesn't understand their main character at all?

I don't get why people want Aang - a 12 year old pacifist, vegetarian monk - to resort to murder to solve his journey. Violence has no place in Aang's characterisation, especially not for a genocide survivor that has had everything taken from him. The show repeatedly proves that violence is never the answer (ie in Jet and Hama), and as it's aimed for children, teaches peaceful resistance over killing (Southern Raiders, amongst other eps).
Aang not killing Ozai isn't a hypocritical manoeuvre. I see people bring up the Fire Nation soldiers dying in the north (S1E20), but they conveniently forget that Aang wasn't himself then. He was in the Avatar state (that he still couldn't control) and merged with the ocean spirit (that was filled with rage, hence why it consumed Aang to become Koizilla). Aang never wanted to kill those soldiers, it's why he has nightmares at the start of S2E1 when they've just left the north. He is scared of what the Avatar State can do, especially when it comes to hurting people. The whole Avatar State episode explains this fear, as well as Aang's inability to control it yet.
Furthermore, so many fans don't understand the moral dilemma Aang is in despite it being very heavily integrated into the last few episodes of S3. The air nomads are pacifists, and Aang as the last air nomad must keep their cultural beliefs alive. If Aang resorts to killing Ozai and blatantly disobeying the teachings that uphold his very identity, then the fire nation succeeded in their genocide.
Because yes, genocide applies to culture just as much as lives. By utilising the power handed by the lion turtle, Aang is able to defeat Ozai and keep his people culturally alive. It's a beautiful moment, a perfect way to start the new era of peace and heal a war torn world.

Saying this character or that character hate or should hate Aang are always the dumbest takes I hear in this fandom.
If there is one character that has a legitimate reason to hate Aang, other than the fire nation soldiers trying to win the war, it’s the cabbage merchant.

It’s so funny to me that we got art of the grown-up Gaang so late after the series ended.
Because in those intervening years, I pictured Aang and Toph being small adults. I mean they’re both literally based on Chinese people (and Tibet).
So Toph would continue to be this force to be reckoned with, but look unassuming- the Pint-Sized Powerhouse trope, or Cute Bruiser.
And Aang would always be this dainty-looking airbender who was maximally enabled to fling himself in the air and flip and stuff
as it goes,
He'd fly through the air with the greatest of ease
A daring young man on the flying trapeze
His movements were graceful, all girls he could please
So now I’m reflecting on the fact that I’ve just written a passage that references almost-sixteen year old Aang’s ‘canon’ height, and reminiscing about when I wrote older!Toph as a moderately-muscly-but-still-small woman.

Aang haters are simply tasteless idk like they have a massive hard on for dragging him through the mud and yet they want their favs to be exactly like him lol. if you were to erase Aang’s character from ATLA then there would be no ATLA lmfao like… how fun would this show be without Aang? yeah that’s what I fucking thought. yalls favs wouldn’t be doing shit if it weren’t for Aang, he is literally the glue that connects all of the other characters. He does not revolve around your favs, your favs revolve around him.
