new DID resources!
Dear DID/OSDDers on Tumblr,
There is a new workbook due out in March that you may find helpful. The author is a psychologist based in Australia; she specialises in DID, OSDD, trauma recovery amongst other things. Here is a link to her practice.
The author is a member of the ISSTD (International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation) as of 2020
She holds a Masters of Professional Psychology, Graduated in 2017
She is also the author of the book "my mommy has multiple parts" - the children's book about parents with DID
Here is a link to her psychology today page
I am most excited for this to release! I hope someone else may find it helpful <3

guys this might be a dumb and obvious question but like…do some of your alters/parts want to be perceived as separate people and some of them really don’t…? like some of them don’t even want names or pronouns and others like to be completely individual and separate.
on sysblr the normalization of alters being separate people is everywhere but i never see people talk about some of their alters not wanting to be separate from the body. idk if any of that makes sense

This mini thread of comments with this user made me want to make a post about this:
Please do not go harassing this person. I censored their name incase they do not wish to be connected with this later on.
So when does something common in DID, like this, become anti recovery? Simple. When you refuse to acknowledge it's harmful, do not wish to ever better it in life, or wish for it to be worse.
Hating your alters is common in DID. With trauma often comes depression and self hatred. For many, their alters are a constant reminder of what they've gone through and the person they never got to become due to their trauma and disorder. This is not anti recovery, this is normal. It shouldn't be shamed, looked down on, or treated as something horrible to do because it's just a part of the disorder and going through the trauma that caused it.
With that being said, it can become anti recovery. Hatred towards your alters can lead to repressing alters, ignoring them, worsening dissociative barriers to be as separate from them as possible, hating yourself further, never being open to recovery/fusion, etc. When it gets to a point that you don't acknowledge it's a problem, you wish to live with the problem, or you wish to worsen the problem as a way to avoid or embrace it, it becomes anti recovery.
Viewing your alters as separate people is also a normal thing to happen in DID. Many people use this as a way to cope, to find comfort in their disorder/trauma, to feel less alone. It's common to have a hard time viewing these different states as you when they all hold their own identities, periods of time in your life, responses to trauma, etc. This, again, is normal.
This becomes anti recovery when you push the idea of alters being different people onto others, using it to excuse actions, refusing any kind of treatment in fear of fusion, worsening dissociative barriers to stay separate, never accepting that alters are just different identity states, etc. Again, when you refuse to acknowledge it's bad, never wish to fix it, or wish to worsen it, that's when it becomes anti recovery.
This goes for many things, more than just this in DID and more than DID in general. Symptoms and results of a disorder aren't anti recovery, how you decide to handle them (both in the moment and in plans for the future) can be. It's okay if you struggle with hating your alters, you don't want to acknowledge them as parts of a whole, or both at the same time. You don't have to do that right away. Unless you are against fixing these problems or you push them onto other people, you are not anti recovery.
It's okay to go at your own pace, especially if you're young and/or not in therapy.

Finding an item from our biggest abuser and a friend telling us "Just ignore it, don't let it ruin your day" like actually fuck off. I know you mean well but she is a massive trigger so we can't just "Not think about it".
16+ years of abuse and being told to "Just ignore it" actually fuck off.
You're allowed to be upset and triggered from something. You are allowed to need to support even if you think it is stupid or small. - August 🖇️

Hi! Please can I request a problematic source introject flag? And if the stripes could be vertical rather than horizontal or something fun like that, that would be great. Add a dinosaur or something, have fun with it :)
Thank you

let's talk about diagnosis!!!
diagnosed and undiagnosed did seems to be a hot topic in sysblr - my opinion? it literally does not matter. you can say "I am diagnosed" when you are in fact not diagnosed but it's the internet!!! literally NO ONE will know!!!!
diagnosis is a privilege. maybe you saw a therapist and it was super easy for you to be diagnosed and that's great! im happy for you but that's not the way it is for everyone. in my state therapists are not able to diagnose you with DID and not many people know the intricacies enough to be able to diagnose. in the whole of my state i know of one psychiatrist who diagnoses DID... one! and it's something that would cost multiple appointments and thousands of dollars AND you need to a referral from a doctor... which means you need to get your therapist to write a letter to your doctor to write a letter to the psychiatrist. yeah... so that's why even though I am medically recognized and see a DID specialist, I am undiagnosed.
my therapist has even told me she fully supports self diagnosing and will write the diagnosis I think I have but are not yet confirmed on my letter to my new therapist. and she is a professional!!!! so stop being intentionally obtuse and realize other people exist and not everyone has the same experience as you.
toodles!

This but I’d like to add some nuance to it.
If you’ve got a personally, anxiety, mood, trauma, or dissociative disorder (there’s more kinds than that obviously that are implied), and you are in a place to be making your life better with therapy or treatment and you don’t, that’s when I feel it’s warranted to not be able to handle a disorder. A lot of people don’t know what they’re getting into dating someone with a mental illness, but it’s also on the person with that illness to have that illness be the reason something happens, not an excuse.
If you’re someone with a mental illness (royal you) and you’re stuck in a pattern of behavior that’s hurting yourself and those around you, and have had this pointed out and have the opportunity to work on it, that’s on you.
I know I posted a video on tiktok about this but more people need to hear this
Don't date someone unless you can't handle all their disorders, let me repeat Do not date someone unless you can handle ALL their disorders
Don't date someone with a personality disorder unless you can handle the episodes
Do not date someone with a trauma disorder can you can handle the flashblacks
Do not date someone with mood disorder unless you can handle the mood swings
Do not date someone with a disorder you cannot handle
Do not date someone if you're going to villainize them or their disorders
Do not date someone if you're going to romanticize their disorders
It shows you have little to no understanding of their disorders or who they are as a person, it shows you can't truly love them because you refuse to learn the basics of the disorder, and it shows just how much of a shitty person you are
