Some quick tips to spotting accounts that are pretending to be a Palestinian needing mutual aid. Please keep in mind that not all of them are scam accounts, and that some may legitimate blogs who just aren’t too knowledgeable on how tumblr works. This guide is based around what I go by when checking certain blogs and usually it’s a quick giveaway the blog is a scam.

Please read this post too from my other blog before you tell people don’t donate to gfms:

1. You was sent the ask as someone who regularly shares Palestine related content such as regular news updates of posts by other Palestinians who are regularly giving updates. You may also get these asks from sharing a popular post that is from the Palestine tag. If you post often about Palestine, you will always start getting these asks. These askers don’t care if you state don’t send the asks. They will anyway. Unfortunately minors also get sent asks.

2. The ask has odd formatting such as having odd quotation marks in it or unusual formatting that may indicate it’s been edited and copied from somewhere else. Often the ask is the same thing as the post itself minus a link to a donation site. These asks rarely change so searching it should pull up if it’s been sent to other bloggers and sometimes the asks are edited only to add new phrases to them in time.

3. The account is almost always a few days old or a week old or long depending on how often they have sent asks. Usually some may even be an hour old and reusing a familiar pfp/ask.

4. The blog has a few Palestine related posts or posts from random tags reblogged to pad out length and then no more. They will have no original posts besides the pinned post while occasionally answering asks that they may have received but otherwise nothing else and no further updates given either.

5. They may have a Linktree link that is called “GoFundMe” as if indicating they have a GoFundMe there. However, they don’t. When clicked on, the Linktree actually goes to a PayPal account whose name may not even match the one their supposed name is. They’ll say it’s a friend, but it’s just the same person not someone else. You’ll see this same name across multiple accounts after a while usually giving away it’s not legitimate even under a different theme.

6. The text used by the blogs are often real stories stolen from legitimate fundraisers and searching parts of it in your preferred search engine should pull up the sources. These sources make no mention of a tumblr account either or don’t have the PayPal account associated with them in the info. Scammers often impersonate a real person in need and will ignore you if you show them the source they copied from.

7. Legitimate Palestinians often link to their own GoFundMe posts that their friends have set up or post links to other social platforms they are found on. They will regularly post updates when possible, post sources to support them when necessary, and also generally have some method of verifying their legitimacy. They may often share links to support others as well or give links to charities that have been shown as reliable. They will have more original posts than just a single pinned one and regularly speak to other tumblr accounts beyond just an ask. Please don’t bother them with asks about possible scam accounts. There are many guides out there that can do that for you if you search. You may find verified fundraisers too.

8. Scammers don’t know anything about Palestine and will often have trouble once you ask them anything beyond the mutual aid post. They don’t know the languages decently and you can tell it pretty easily if you’re one who uses it regularly. Whatever the scammers use is often just copied off the site they got the post from. Sometimes the text is just reused from past scams such as asking for insulin that doesn’t last long.

9. These scammers can and will use names stolen off real Palestinians to look more legitimate and trustworthy. They change names constantly once one of their PayPal accounts is shut down.

10. If you do see a GoFundMe link on a blog, don’t immediately assume it’s a scam just because it’s a relatively new account. Check the post notes to see if anyone’s verified the account yet or wait a bit as it takes time. You likely can search around to see if anyone’s posted anything where the blog has been vetted by others. You may also see if the GoFundMe is referred to on other socials or on lists that compile verified and vetted fundraisers.

Please don’t let these scams deter you from sending support where it needs to go. Even if you can’t donate personally, there are other ways to help. If you are sending money, please make sure that it’s going to where it’s needed and the place it’s sent has been verified accordingly. If you find a blog is a scammer, and have been able to prove it, please make sure to alert anyone sharing the post and report the account.

The best thing we can do as "traumagenic" systems (quotation marks because I hate origin terms altogether—they shouldn't even exist), is block and ignore endos. We all know that endos are close-minded and unwilling to properly educate themselves, because they already identify as "endogenic—" which simply isn't possible to be. Ten minutes of research on actually reliable sources is all it takes to disprove their validity.

While yes, spewing educational facts at endos might feel relieving, it isn't going to do anything. They're not worth putting in the time and effort for—because if they won't educate themselves with reliable and scientifically proven information, what makes you think they're going to listen to some random stranger on the internet? Interacting with endos first, no matter how you approach it, is not going to actually benefit anyone. Then push them out. Blocking them in the masses, and additionally blocking endo/pro-endo tags from your feed, is the best way to shove them away from actual system spaces. How are pro-endos going to interact with genuine, disordered system spaces if they can't see our content, and we can't see theirs?

"But they're spreading harmful misinformation!"

Yes they are. They're spreading misinformation that's harmful—mainly to impressionable minds. That being said, it still isn't our responsibility to attempt to educate random endos and endo supporters, because again: if they refuse to do any genuine research of their own, why would they listen to some random person on the internet?

Arguing doesn't work. It hasn't worked. And yes, those with impressionable minds can easily pick up the belief that endos are real—but it's quite genuinely their own fault for not putting those ten—even just two minutes of time into actual research for the truth. We cannot force facts onto people who refuse to take them.

With all of this aside, the existence of endogenics is almost entirely a problem exclusively known by other systems. Before you were aware you were a system, did you even know endos were a thing? Or better yet—before even interacting with system spaces, were you aware of endos?

Endos may be spreading misinformation, but it really doesn't branch out much further than the system community.

Block pro-endo accounts, and block pro-endo tags. If you interact with endos first and attempt to prove their beliefs to be incorrect, it's just going to create more malice in the end—and if you block their accounts, they can't interact with you.

A hint to JAFF writers, Regency romance novelists, and other writers of a historical bent:

Use archive.org's "search text contents" feature.

A chapter I was recently writing included the phrase "on such short notice." When I was editing the chapter, that phrase struck my ear as too modern—but I wasn't quite sure.

I went to archive.org, typed in the phrase I wanted to find out the origin of in quotation marks, then changed the search parameters from "Search metadata" to "Search text contents."

How to get the most from your search: OCR

Of course you know that sometimes the lower-case "s"s at the beginning or middle of words will be typed as a long s (ſ) until around 1805 or so. OCR technology often reads this as "f" or "(", so try replacing initial and medial "s"s with an "f" or an open paranthesis to get more results from 18th-century texts. Also, in a lot of typefaces of this era, the letters "ct" are combined into a digraph that OCR really doesn't like. It may read this digraph as "&," "£," "f," or "d." Two long "s"s in a row are often read as "ff" or "fl." So if I were looking for the phrase "establish manufactories," I would type in "eftablifh manufa£ories." If I were looking for "massacre," I would type in "maffacre" or "maflacre."

This process isn't perfect, but what can you do. If you're looking for 19th-century texts, rather than 18th-century and earlier, you don't have to worry about this as much.

Once you've got your results

In the ribbon beneath the search bar, click to sort by "Date published," then click the arrows at the left to change the order to earliest to latest, if you want to estimate the origin of a phrase. You can also use the "Year Published" section at the far left to input the earliest and latest dates you want, if you're trying to see if a phrase is used in a given time period.

From the results I got, it seems that the concept / phrase of doing something on "short notice" is current as of the beginning of the 19th century, but it's perhaps more often "at short notice" than "on short notice."

If I search more particularly for "such short notice," I can see that the phrases "at such short notice" and "upon such short notice" are both used at this time.

This method is super helpful when you're trying to determine whether certain phrases, idioms &c. are used in a certain period. Etymonline can be useful as well—but it's useful with words and idioms, and not with random phrases like this one.

When the right first started making up the litterboxes in schools thing I thought it sounded familiar because I swear I remember a post from the peak of the tumblr otherkin era about the idea of public bathrooms including "litterboxes for catkins." When I started thinking about it I am fairly sure (but not entirely, it was a long time ago and I'm working from memory) that the post I remember was not actually suggesting this, but rather mocking another post that did, except it didn't reference a specific post. It was just "they should have litterboxes for catkins!" in quotation marks, as if someone else said it, but without attribution. There have been cases of fake tumblr posts made up on places like 4chan and reddit working their way back to tumblr, and we know those people were on here, mining for content, trolling and harassing, and running the anti-SJW blogs. I'm not saying anything definitive because again this is all based on my decade old memory, but it would make sense if the litterboxes thing had an origin in right wing posters making fun of otherkin tumblr. We know there's a right wing poster to mainstream right wing politics pipeline. I know that kitty litter was included in emergency kits in case of an armed intruder as well but I don't think the two are mutually exclusive, there could be multiple origins. I'm mostly interested in a possible anecdotal data point about the way ideas that begin on the right wing internet make their way to the mainstream right because if I'd stayed in political science I'd probably be researching this now.

I say best friends with quotation marks because my ideas of how they would have hung out was stereotypical date stuff(including sharing a milkshake). i’m not even sure they interacted with each other once but i really hoped they would be “best friends”. in the more recent years i realize my tiny kid brain was making a crack ship and said they were best friends because i didn’t realize girls could like girls lol. 9.5/10, they satisfy eight year old me

FUTURE PLANS...

Okay so basically first of all, thank you all for the well-wishes and congratulations for me reaching my planned end of this project. Well, I guess I should "end" in quotation marks because basically, I did want to do all the cool projects that came out this year. However, I wanted to wait and see what projects I would have to cover, since, you know. The year's not over. The Fanadventures of 2024 are still producing content, and therefore I wouldn't conceivably know when the cutoff point WAS, since I could get through all the material they've done up to this point and they could make a new page.

Then I realized that's a terrible, stupid way of thinking about this. If they make a new page and I don't like their project, I can just. Not read it. Like I've done with all the rest of the Webcomics I haven't been vibing with. But if the webcomic comes out with a new page and I *do* like it, I can. Read it? Like with all the other MSPFAs I *do* read???????? So what was even the problem in the first place. I don't know, but basically, we're doing this, we're making this happen, 2024 is back on the menu.

I also went back and checked out what other projects have made it past that threshold, and turns out, there are a couple surprising ones, including Fanadventures that started out in *2013*. Yeah, you heard right, all the way back in that time. So they've been added to the list, including one major exclusion to my major journey that I actually did want to read, except when I searched it up, it...wasn't there, for some reason? Probably did the search wrong because it's back up now, and that means HACKBENT IS BACK ON THE MENU. I keep saying that today I have no idea why but it's my feeling right now I guess.

If that wasn't enough, I have also decided to do a little bit of foresight and basically cover the Fanadventures that currently, RIGHT NOW, have at least 190-199 Favourites, as of writing this. Call these ones "On The Cusp" or "On the Brink" of the actual original project. There's a handful of these. Want to cover my bases and all.

There's also, so, so many other fanadventures that fall short of the 200 favourites that I, personally, really like and want other people to know about. That's not added to the spreadsheet yet (I still have somewhat of principles for what this journey should be) but I do think I should cover those EVENTUALLY, if only to abuse my platform a little bit. Speaking of which, wow, apparently you like this blog? I thought this blog wouldn't really be followed all that closely but some of you are liking practically every review/notes taking post I make on here, it's insane. Thank you. I'm also rereading this post and I just realized I sound so much like James Roach's HSBC newsposts it's kind of crazy. But anyways, yeah, those are my future plans, HOPE to have some done today but who knows. Bloggers are asked but stick with their 'statement of facts' so what's wrong with asking others without identifying the person? Isn't it better than saying X is wrongly and stubbornly claiming a falsehood and tattletaling? You usually like clearing the air as you did with all the stubbornness around the match attendees.

There isn't anything wrong with asking others, when the original blogger has been asked and sticks with 'their statement' at itself.

The way my Anon I answered last night, asked it is perfectly fine. What I was referring to is that I received 2 other Anons, literally quoting word for word parts of a post on another blog I don't even follow or read, where the owner apparently had some discussion with someone and might have been what you can call stubborn in their statement of facts. The quotes were not even send within quotation marks, but since they sort of looked so strange to me and in combination with the question from the Anon I replied to last night, I searched a bit around and found where it originated from.

If people have been asking other bloggers about their statement of facts, and are looking for a second opinion on it, that's all okay with me. But then, at least send these quotes within quotation marks, saying they're from another blog, not necessarily needing to name the blogger. Clarify you asked the blogger and are asking me for a second opinion. It would save me time to find out what it is all about and I think that is a more fair way to do. As I don't want to hurt or police anybody, nor name and shame another blogger. But that could happen unintentionally if people just sent me quotes from another blog, not indicating the things I suggest above.

To clarify more, now I had 3 separate Anon messages, as it is anon I can't tell if they're all from one and the same person or not, I can only guess. Two of the messages were quotes from this other blog, same post. One was the Anon ask I replied upon. Better way, put it all in one message, put quotation marks around the quotes, you don't necessarily need to name the blogger but it's not forbidden. I have a fair choice to discuss the content in an attempt to clear the air or give an unbiased opinion on it.

yesterday, i was ''called out'' by @deathmetalyaoi. i put that in quotation marks because OP has stated this is not a callout post, but a ''warning to people in the fandom'' in an effort to ''cut off the diseased tissue at the source'', positioning this as not only something good but necessary, justified, and righteous.

let's unpack that.

my ''ides of march'' event was not a ''most controversial dead dove'' contest, and implying as such is a deliberate misreading of the situation.

i don't actually have a copy of the original post, which has been deleted for over 3 months, so i'll be using this screencap from deathmetalyaoi to illustrate my point--

the explicit intent of the event was to promote and create dark content. i created this as a direct response to events like the christmas and valentines ones -- not because i had an issue with them, but because i wanted to see content that was more accurate to the dark and brutal show that i fell in love with.

i want to set the record straight -- the original prompt list was my idea and mine alone. this includes murder, gore, stalking, cannibalism, and torture, all of which are concepts that frequently happen within the show that we all claim to have watched.

when i was creating this event, i spoke with basu, who urged me to include nsfw prompt options, and insisted on having incest be one of the options, despite my reluctance. we have spoken about this, she has apologized.

shortly after posting the event advertisement, it was screencapped and posted in a discord that i was also in, where several people made baseless accusations about me (including that i was a pedophile, that i hated survivors, that my event was edgy and baseless and devoid of any merit), leading me to delete the post. several of those people are now liking and reblogging the original callout and using that as an excuse to pat themselves on the back for being ''against harassment'' and ''doing the right thing''.

deathmetalyaoi refuses to speak to me or ask me for clarification -- all they've done is throw around extremely serious accusations and play with people as if they're paper dolls. but, i'll bite. deathmetalyaoi is implying that i -- and the other people named in that post -- are bad people, while they, by contrast, are good.

so, who IS deathmetalyaoi?

deathmetalyaoi is a 22 year old person who claims to have DID -- a serious condition that real people suffer from -- with their primary alter being pickles the drummer from metalocalypse.

they frequently suicide bait, beg for money to escape toxic living situations, and then spend the money on luxury purchases before going back to begging for money.

they also like to go through people's blogs and find old receipts to hold over their heads.

and leave rude comments on fanfiction they dislike -- primarily of the explosiontooth/tickles variety, as they operate under the ableist assumption that toki, as a canonical age regressor and potentially autistic character, is a child incapable of making decisions by himself.

they also like to use their labels (primarily being trans and autistic) to label anyone who does not agree with them as bigoted.

here's another example of them begging for money and then misusing it -- they seem to have a habit of remaking blogs whenever people catch on.

they also make music labeled as lolicore -- this is a genre originating on 4chan which primarily gets its name from the sampling of lolicon porn. they claim the name is purely ironic and that using it does not make them a pedophile, which is correct. however, in the same breath, they also accuse triplefaggot of being a pedophile for drawing an au where toki and murderface are safe for work, fully clothed, unsexualized children, implying that simply using the word 'loli', even if ironic, is unacceptable and cause for cancellation.

to be quite frank -- this hurt me. i am upset. this is a show that brings me a lot of comfort, and several real life incidents occurring in close proximity have left me desperately in need of that comfort. i don't like the idea of having to walk on eggshells to avoid being raked over the coals by a fandom perpetually hyperfixated on the idea of ''moral purity'' -- the idea that wrong step can leave you irredeemable, and that it is your god-given duty to lambast this person for being impure, lest everybody else believe you, too, are Bad.

there is no such thing as a person without sin. the best people fuck up and make mistakes and don't think straight and act based on emotion all the damn time. you are never going to find your perfect fandom darling, and cultivating an environment where everybody is paranoid of being attacked for having beliefs that differ from yours is not only pointless, but specifically, objectively cruel -- you have accomplished nothing beyond making people afraid in a space meant to be about enjoying a cartoon and making a fool out of yourself.

i know that you aren't going to read this, @deathmetalyaoi, because you blatantly ignore anything that paints you as being incorrect. at the very most, you're going to make a text post about how people are being mean to you when all you want to do is think about nathan and pickles kissing sloppy style, and people will shower you in sympathy and pictures of kittens and puppies.

but i'll know, and that's enough for me. i'm not doing this to call you out, nor am i trying to warn people -- it's my honest response. you get what you give.

Spore on the steam deck

so, i recently got a steam deck, and i also have the spore collection on gog, so obviously i was like "hell yeah lets get spore on the go"

i thought i could just install it and run, i could not. if you try, you'll get errors 2000 and 1004.

to fix this? well, i combined a couple guides i found here in the case that anyone here has the same problem (this should work for steam and gog, and *maybe* origin, the only thing that should be different is the file paths, and it should be the same for general linux desktops with different file paths). also some steps are only necessary for certain parts of it. i will put [SPORE] for base game, [GA] for galactic adventures, and [CC] for the parts pack

step 1) install the game [SPORE] [GA] [CC]

very simple step. on steam you just download it while in game mode (also download galactic adventures and the creepy and cute parts pack if you have those), and on gog you can use heroic launcher (which is what i used) or lutris (which i have never used, the only difference *should* be the file path which it might tell you).

step 2) edit the wine prefix registry [SPORE] [GA] [CC] and copy content [GA] [CC]

this is where the error 2000/1004 gets solved.

open the file "/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/17390/pfx/system.reg" if you are using steam, or "/home/deck/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/SPORE Collection/pfx/system.reg" if you are using gog. then, paste the following strings between any other pre-existing strings in that file:

if you only have the base game, this is all you need to do to get the game to load up properly (for other versions, replace the bits in datadir and installloc with the location you installed to)

[GA] you will also need to paste a second thing (again, anywhere between other things is fine):

[GA] [CC] in the same directory folder as the Data folder, you will also see the DataEP1 [GA] and bp1content [CC]. copy EVERYTHING from inside these folders into the Data folder. after doing this, you can now access the expansion packs ingame, and id also recommend changing the aspect ratio (requires restart of the game to take effect)

step 2.5) get 60fps patch [SPORE] [GA] [CC]

this is relatively simple, go back into the Data folder, then open the Config folder. in this folder you should see three text files, ConfigManager, Properties, and VideoCards.

first, open ConfigManager, scroll all the way to the bottom, and ad the very bottom make a new line and type "intProp frameLimitMS 17" (without the quotation marks)

second, open Properties, scroll all the way down, at the very bottom make a new line and type "property frameLimitMS 44 int" (again without quotation marks)

after editing both of those files, save them and then you should be running the game at around 60fps

step 3) controller config and game mode access

if you are using a steam deck, you will probably want to access this in game mode. steam version has this there by default so that doesnt matter, but other versions need to be added. heroic launcher has an option to just add a game to steam in heroic, and then booting into game mode shows it there. not entirely sure about lutris but its probably the same.

once its there in the game mode (or for regular linux desktops, just edit the controller config from the steam desktop app for spore specifically) just open the controller configurator, set up the controls you like (you NEED bindings for left and right mouse buttons, scroll wheel, middle mouse click, and mouse movement, and i recommend also adding 1, 2, 3, 4, F1, F2, F3, F4, space, esc, p, shift, ctrl, backspace, alt, wasd, and enter), i personally used the joystick for wasd, dpad for f1-4, left trackpad as a dpad for 1-4, a and b for jump and enter, start and select as esc and p, right trackpad and right stick as mouse, triggers as click and everything else on the paddles.

after all that, you can now play spore on the steam deck (or any linux pc i think)

(please note that mods might not work unless they dont require galactic adventures because of how the galactic adventures data was moved to the base game bit, bot parts pack does work, but i couldnt get the patch that gives them the sing ability to work)

why did i go through all that to play spore in a car? who knows. why am i posting it here rather than reddit? because i dont use reddit anymore. is anyone reading this likely to care? probably not but theres always a chance.

I'm still seeing content theft

I'm still seeing people stealing content in the Pandora Hearts fandom and honestly it's annoying because we don't have that many people making it anymore. A lot of stolen art is old and it's probably hard for the original creators to find it. They may have moved on to different fandoms, abandoned those pages, or are just done with the fandom life.

Since people may not understand content theft, I will be more detailed.

Content theft includes but is not limited to:

Posting someone's work and claiming it as your own

Posting someone's work with no credit

Posting someone's work and saying "Credit to the creator!"

Posting someone's work and saying "I found this on *website name*!"

Tracing someone's drawing and posting it without their permission

Copying someone's fanfiction and barely changing any words (Using a theme or idea is not stealing as one thing can be done in a completely different way.)

Posting anything that has "Please credit me in the comments" without crediting them

Posting something that says "Do not repost" even if you credit the creator

Posting something thinking a watermark or handle appearing is okay

Posting something after removing or blurring the watermark or handle

Non reliable sources for fanart:

Pinterest

Zerochan

Amazon (If you see something on there, try to report it to the creators because companies WILL steal fanart)

How to find the original source:

Reverse image search (Fanart/comics only)

See if there is a link to the original

Look for a watermark or handle

Type a super specific sentence with quotation marks around it in a search engine (Fanfiction only)

How to avoid accidental theft:

Ask the creator for permission to use or repost

Share/reblog/retweet instead of reposting

Check creator guidelines to see if you're allowed to repost

Don't reuse or post someone else's work in the first place

You came here for riches, didn't you? And who is to say these sorry saps down in the rubble didn't have something of value in this old house? They had their armor on, after all. Must have been protecting something. Maybe whoever did them in didn't get it all.

You spend about two hours digging through the rubble and discover, among the aging fragments of household bric-a-brac a small goat-hide coin purse containing 350 hacksilver coins. They look ancient and bear marking suggesting they were originally minted far from this region. You pocket them. Your first pay day on the isle.

After another hour or so, you are content in your belief there is nothing else of value here among the rubble. Best be off, especially before dark. It's the middle of the day now, the sun hanging high overhead. You've got time to get to one, maybe two more spots out here before you'll want to bed down for the night. After today though, you'll need more than just your little chunk of pocket cheese to sustain you.

From here atop the ruins of this old house, you can easily make out the fields of graves to the north [1]. In the distance between you and the monastery [6], you see a lone monk ambling along a path towards the western edge of the isle, carrying a pole of some kind.
