I do think it's interesting that Rafael was patronizing and insulting to Olivia and it wrecked their friendship, while Liv and El's relationship has survived them both being patronizing and insulting to each other ("a history of violence and a dead marriage" or w/e, "I'm the longest relationship you've ever had with a man" like ok!!!) and it's like. What is that? Ok like practically speaking Raul is booked and the last two seasons just haven't made room for him to come back but on a character level is there a reason for that? I don't think we can even just blame it on Olivia having romantic feelings for Elliot; their nastiest fights are in 1.0, where they are both staunchly refusing to see one another as potential romantic partners, and I do think there's a certain. Shade of romance or sexual desire or possessive inclination to the Liv/Barba relationship (though I think he reads more mlm to me and I think their connection is much, much messier than just "we want to fuck" and I also think their relationship would not have survived them fucking but that is an entirely different post) and I do think she loved Barba in a way. And he's right, when she loves people she loves deep - she let Cassidy crash at her place when he was hiding from the cops bc everyone thought he was a murderer and that was WELL after they broke up - she will forgive the people she loves for pretty much anything, but she didn't give ground to him. And it is, I think, bc she'll forgive the ones she loves for hurting her, but she can't forgive them for hurting others. If Rafael had only insulted her that would've been one thing, but he went after Elliot, too, and that was her bridge too far. Olivia and Elliot are so codependent and enmeshed that even when they're fighting with each other (Rafael told Liv to stand up to Elliot, but she already had; she knows their relationship is not great in that moment, my guy!) she will defend him to the death, will fight anyone, even her best friend, to protect Elliot, and when the dust settles she'll remain wary and on her guard.

But then again, maybe it's not all selfless, maybe it just is that an attack on Elliot is also an attack on her, and she will not forget it. And I do think. IDK Rafael has Elliot all wrong (the idea that Elliot is a bully...💡 really did not understand Elliot's character at all) and I think there's a part of Liv that feels like. Every accusation Barba makes about Elliot, he's making it about Liv, too. And she sees that, even if Rafael doesn't. Rafael is talking about her daddy issues like he thinks that's an excuse for her behavior but he doesn't see that if Elliot is a bully, then Liv is one, too. But she sees it. And she knows. If Rafael doesn't like or respect Elliot, then he doesn't like or respect her, either. It's like. Her realizing Rafael doesn't know her at all, and her being defensive bc she knows he won't like the ugly truth of her when he finally sees it.

Anyway. This a sort of contradictory ramble bc I don't actually have one solid answer in mind; as I'm going I feel like there's multiple arguments to be made and I'm interested in digging around in all of them

I've been following Hanza since back when they were making my deepest secret, so I've seen the development of the guy upstairs first hand and how hanza writes it. Even back in the concept stages, it was so blatantly clear that it was supposed to be a thriller/cat mouse vibe where Adam (killer) was horrible and not to be rooted for. They've compared him to irl serial killers and how those guys will often use women as shields to hide their true selves from the public and how that's messed up and bad to do.

They've shown Adam as a horrible irredeemable person and honestly there's little to no nuance with how they handle it, but that makes sense because how else can you handle an audience like what they've gotten without beating them over the head with the facts. How many ways can you outright show your main character despising and wanting to yank their best friend out of the jaws of a murderer before the audience realizes its not foreplay.

I think them going from an actual romance to a fully thriller non romantic story meant that the residual audience expected some kind of messy toxic romance, but Rozy to me has always explicitly read as Queer so idk why people aren't getting the hint.

I get their frustration and it seems like they might be shifting into a potiential issekai romance about a grandad and a middle aged woman who got reincarnated as his grandson's fiance (hard to explain but its hilarious if you want to check it out) without any thriller elements from their recent non comic posts. Whatever they do I hope they can find something to be passionate about again.

It's really baffling to me how people have gone so far in the opposite direction of "purity culture" that they've started arguing on behalf of legitimately harmful and toxic relationships. It's extremely concerning especially when you know the majority of people saying this shit are between the ages of 16-21. IDK what the fuck we're doing anymore when it comes to the romance genre (and TGU isn't even a romance ffs).

Aaaand yeah in relation to where the Hanza topic came up, that's really why I'm moving away from WT as an audience and why I don't consider it a "loss" to not use WT anymore. Once upon a time I wished for Time Gate to be a contracted series, for it to have thousands of readers and be my job. But seeing what's going on with Hanza's work just informs me that I'd be dealing with a lot of the same shit - people expecting Uzuki and Mitsuhiro to be the endgame of the romance when they're literally NOT good for each other, which is the POINT. Like sure, unlike the main duo in TGU, they actually are a couple with a 'relationship' but it's not meant to be healthy and the last thing I need are 15 year olds thinking they're "couple goals". If you ship them in fanfic or w/e the fuck that's fine but please don't get mad at me when they don't wind up being the endgame couple, they're both terrible people and make each other worse when they're around each other (・_・;)

Either way yeah, I don't blame Hanza in the slightest for getting so frustrated with it all that they'd rather just be done with it. It sucks for the more loyal and sane part of their audience that the series is gonna be ripped out from under them like that, but at the end of the day if the creator is being harassed and decide they're done as a result of it... why should they have to keep putting up with bullshit just for a comic? I don't even blame Rachel if she was ending LO by choice due to the noise of the fandom, and unlike Rachel, I don't have anything in the slightest against Hanza or their work LOL But I also don't have the full picture on it all so maybe my opinion will change if I find out more about it. I just don't think any of this shit is worth directly harassing a human being over.

Uncleanliness—Reiji, in general, hates cleaning up after his brothers since they just trash the place and leave it that way. He absolutely hates when things are out of place, let alone dirty, so uncleanliness is definitely a turn-off to him when it comes to both people and romantic partners.

Loudness/Outbursts—He’s not a fan of yelling. He much prefers to talk things through with people. It may be snappy, but it’s classy and he deems it to be better than raising his voice at someone, unlike some of his brothers tend to do. It’s canon that Reiji has raised his voice before, but he was beyond enraged and it took A LOT to get him there, so it’s quite rare if he does this. Accepting things as they are—It’s canon that Reiji cannot accept reality for what it is when things don’t go his way. He seriously has a hard time with this and in one of his game routes, he pointed out that Yui taught him how to look at the brighter side of things when something didn’t go right.

Bad manners—Oh geez, this is probably Reiji’s biggest pet peeve and something he can’t look past. He finds it discordant when people can’t behave politely. He’s not even asking for kindness, but as long as someone conducts themselves with respectful mannerisms, it’s enough for him. After all, we’ve seen him scold his brothers countless times for it.
