Today I want to talk Caraval in latam terms. I won't speak for every single latin american country because I cannot do that but I will speak for mine.

Here racism is intimately tied to social class, to the point where black and brown people are seen as inherently poor and less educated by a large chunk of the population. Racism here is also a lot more subtle. People aren't likely to slur at poc, but they will look down on them and take part in microagressions, either consciously or unconsciously.

Now that you have that context let's apply it to Caraval. Everyone wants to know who Legend is, but no one has been able to guess it in the 80+ years it's been going on for.

Unlikely? Not at all. More likely than you think.

Legend is seen as a God, and his circus as the elite of the elite of that universe. The man even has a private island, and guests are personally invited by him.

With the context I just gave earlier about my country, most people within that universe would assume he has to be white. Or at least have light tone skin. They would be far more likely to point at Julian than at Dante, and at Armando rather than the two of them.

It is very very unlikely the elite of that universe (and those are the people invited to take part in the Caraval) would see the bronze skinned artist and assume he was anything more than a hired actor.

And that my friends is absolutely genius of Dante to achieve. Everyone wants him or to be him, and yet not a single one of them knows a brown skinned man has an entire continent within his grasp.

i think the omori fandom wiki mods are like... way too mean to omori. the language they use portrays him as not really evil... but sinister? like he has bad intentions.

even the english harumaki gohan wiki mods are nicer to a similar character, antikage (fanon name, she doesnt have an official one). and when someone translating the manga she appears in is kinda mean to her, it is pointed out by the community.

im making the comparison because both characters seem to wish to protect their other half, no matter the cost. sure, omori is more extreme with it, but jeez. be nice to him. hes literally sunnys coping mechanism.

You ever think that this whole "Lan only love once" legend is a result of their upbringing leaving them unable to deal with negative emotions in a constructive way? The only options seem to be "get over it and we will never speak of it again and all is well" and "you can lock yourself up and if you never emerge that's sad but okay". Eh?

Like, a Lan would have a crush - the crush turned them down - and because of the insanely stoic way they're supposed to live as they can't just cry about it/get drunk/be visibly unhappy/express their sadness 'excessively'. And thus the normal thing that happens to normal people all the time boils into the Worst Thing Ever that Happened To Me and No One Can Understand This Pain and they decide that they'll never go through that again.

You know like normal people do.
