Anti-intellectuals are always making up a cinephile that can’t shut up about experimental short films that only screen once every ten years at a specific theater in Toronto and no you’re not invited because they’re better than you meanwhile the Criterion Channel and I are both trying to get people to watch Cocktail (1988)

buck is a father figure to chris like bobby is to may and harry and not like bobby is to himself.
let me explain, bobby a better father than buckley dad (forgot his name) ever was to buck, even meeting him after he was grown the love and support he offers buck never changes, and when it does it comes from the misguided place of trying to protect buck from being in harms way (the blood thiners arc). in a eay he never had from the buckley parents, thr love? the support? the understanding? was never there.
but to may and harry? they had a great dad, michael, who loved them, supported them constantly that don't change. with bobby they have a second dad, who safe, caring, loves them as his own but would never try to take the place as dad to them. who tells may she didn't have to lie when she calls him dad to a paramedic.
both may and harry have called bobby dad before on the show in specific scenes/ moments and regardless of that call him bobby regularly.
thats the way buck is a father figure to chris. the way bobby is to may and harry. chris would never consider buck more of a father to him than eddie. yes eddie had failed as a parent sometimes but that dont make him a bad parent, hes human not perfect he has flaws, but he loves chris enough to never stop trying.
this was brought to you by random thoughts on how much I hate and people in the fandom treat buck as a better parent than eddie or that chris would choose him over eddie

literally half of America wants to vote for a guy whose telling them that every one of their problems is caused by a vague mass of inhuman undocumented immigrants and they believe that. This is a problem. We should focus on what an insane fucking problem it is. It is a very bad thing that so many Americans are so very xenophobic and racist they heard an hour of intense xenophobia and racism and found these ideas attractive. It is not a good thing that they believe this. It is a bad thing they believe this. White Americans of all economic classes who believe this are participating in racism and xenophobia, as well as the extreme sexism exhibited by the party as of late. They are therefor propagating racism and xenophobia that will hurt millions of people. We should do what we can to oppose this ideology

Mind you people say Kanye is acting out to this very day cause he lost his mom years and years ago. Megan hasn’t even gotten a fraction of that grace!
Tumblr media
everyone cares about mental health when it comes to Kanye and excuses his antics. You can find articles about his guilt surrounding her death in 2023!!!
but Meg must take full personal responsibility regardless. Megan lost her mom even younger than he did. We don’t see black women as human.

My view on the Elrond/Galadriel kiss:
Cultures be different.
Kisses on the lips are not always sexual/romantic. (I, as an American, have kissed certain friends on the lips in completely platonic ways)
In many cultures, closed-mouthed kisses on the lips are a sign of love and emotional connection in a platonic/familial way.
Specifically American aversion to affection in any form is rotting people's brains - here, a lot of men won't even HUG each other because they think it's 'too intimate'. Other cultures kiss on the hand, cheek, forehead, nose, and yes, lips too, in completely platonic ways. [And we're not even going to get into the large portion of the population who thinks that men and women literally CANNOT be just friends, if a man and woman are close, it HAS to be romantic/sexual.]
Just because YOUR culture/personal preference reserves lip kisses for romantic/sexual feelings only doesn't mean everyone else is wrong for feeling differently.
I didn't read the kiss as Elrond secretly having romantic feelings for Galadriel at all - to me it was clear it was a platonic show of how much he cared for her and how sorry he was that they had been at odds all season (and largely in S1 too) and was afraid it was really going to be the last time he saw her. He wanted to show her just how much she meant to him - PLATONICALLY - and a tender kiss (while also using it as a distraction to slip her a lock-pick) was the way he did it.
Obviously it's ok for people to interpret it as romantic if they ship Galadriel and Elrond, but to say that's the ONLY interpretation based on your own limited cultural understanding of what a kiss could mean is just frustrating.

It's all, "The Targaryens are colonizers," until you point out that they left Valyria and assimilated into the local power structure, whereas the Andals still live in a very particular type of feudal societal structure that does not occur 'organically' and in fact is the result of a collapsed previously-centralized imperial power structure which in this case is also a settler-colonial power structure that was fueled by their version of Manifest Destiny and enabled through genocide of the remaining Children and the imposition of their self-described "universal" culture, power structure, and faith-system upon the pre-existing population. All of which resulting in a particular kind of power structure enabled by and deeply connected to that history that, I repeat, they still live according to. In which case the Targaryens, having distinguished themselves from the imperial power structure that they left, divested from, and took measures to prevent from rising again, and having proceeded to embrace change and adaptivity (to the point of assimilation) are actually less colonial than the culture they assimilate into.
And then it's still, "The Targaryens are colonizers." Because these people don't understand or even really care about colonialism. It's just another word for "foreigner I don't like."

I just got back from a Christening, so I'm curious: when Jon was born what kind of ceremony happened around his birth?
I think because Clark and Lois are both really detached from their source cultures, even if there was a Kryptonian birth ceremony or specific Indonesian celebration- both of them end up doing their own thing. Jon in my AU is known as Jon Yun Kent, a nod to Jonathan Kent and Yunus Liando (Lois' Indonesian dad). Jon would know he's in trouble if Lois called him by his full extended name:
Tumblr media
What's fun is that Jon would have multiple cultural names from both his parents' heritage. His Kryptonian name is Jon-El, and he'd have an ultra secret Chinese name through Lois' lineage. I imagine (like in my family) Lois would contact some great-aunts to help get the Chinese naming conventions right for Jon. For fun, Jon can have an Indo-fied name like Yonathan Yunus Kentajaya Liando haha and Lois can throw a bunch of random Indonesian suffixes to "Kent" (Kentawiharja, Kentmawijaya, Kentyawan, Kentcanawati, Kentyadi etc.)

while i do agree with the sentiment that bloodclan should be more nuanced as an entity i still believe it is wrong to portray them as the necessary "response" to clan injustice (haven't read the books in years but i am pretty sure that bloodclan started with no connection to the clans) / an opposition to the clan's flaws. some of the thing scourge did was out of selfishness and bloodclan isn't the other colour of the black and white debacle with the clans. the clans are heavily flawed yes, but it isn't realistic to completely say that their structure had no redeeming qualities altogether and that all outsider groups is fundamentally better than the clans.
all clans and groups are flawed in their own way and i believe we shouldnt brush past the things that other groups (the sisters and what they do with their toms *cough cough*) did solely to be able to degrade the clans and their culture.
Buddy, you're setting up a strawman. I promise you that if you look into the reduxes I've made of BloodClan, Guardians, The Sisters, and the Tribe, you will see that I don't make any of them a "flawless" alternative to Clan life.
Nor do I say that the Clans have no redeeming qualities. In fact, you can browse the "Clan Culture" tag to see the various expansions I've made to show how these traditions, values, and technological advances make Clan life so alluring.
The overarching theme of BB is that the nature of culture is change. For better AND for worse.
With respect, I think there's something insidious in the wording of "the things the other groups did." We're talking about fan responses to a work that consistently demonizes and degrades foreigners to make the Clans look like the "best way to live," justifying xenophobia. These are not real groups, they are writing choices.
In the franchise with some pretty extreme examples of misogyny, the authors said "What if bizarro world where women rule and have no men... woag..." and only includes a single Clan-alligned member of this culture, with a BAD opinion of them, who can't even do his diplomatic job because he HATES them so much.
In the same franchise that shows Fireheart getting bullied, facing prejudice, and fighting a murderous tyrant who publically executes a mixed-race character, their endgame villain is an outsider, like him, but this one IS a godless heathen who HATES love and friendship and banned families.
In the VERY same franchise which made its first non-malicious group barely able to get through an arc without needing to be saved by Clan cats, totally unable to defend themselves, framed as "whiny" for not wanting their clearly 'inferior' culture to be forcefully changed.
And I'm re-stating all this because, again, no offense to you in particular Anon, but I've been seeing a few people with a sentiment like yours lately. Complaints into a vacuum that don't make targeted critique of anyone's fanworks, gesturing at this broad "woobification" which is apparently out there somewhere over the rainbow, saying things like "well Scourge is selfish" or "well Moonlight abandoned her 13 year old" as if we haven't BEEN knew.
As if we're not all directly responding to these choices. As if I haven't written ESSAYS on this topic.
Since this was about BloodClan in particular though, and you admit you haven't read the books in years, please go back and actually read Rise of Scourge before trying to make critique of the ways fanon rewrites its origin. It's EXPLICITLY a response to the Clans, in the text, that the Erins wrote, it is canon that fanon is working with.
And you want people to take that out and approach it a different way... why? Because it's so incredulous to you that a nation forms in response to a threatening neighbor? That a common enemy through invasions is a way that people might choose to unite, and encourage their new culture to value brutality? Because you don't like the idea of Clan Culture's XENOPHOBIC BATTLE CULTURE affecting surrounding communities??
Could YOU, maybe, be doing this "woobification" thing I keep hearing about? Can I play this stupid game too? What's our stupid prize? Can it be a lollipop? Do we get stickers
TL;DR, ok.

can i be fr for a minute?? sending abuse to people online for holding different views than you is not activism and in fact actively hurts your cause. most people are not extreme in their viewpoints, you can give them a new perspective if you're willing to spend some time explaining shit. if someone is saying something you disagree with and you rush in there to condescend to them and call them disgusting and subhuman and dont even TRY to explain calmly why their views are harmful, they're going to shut you out instantly and double down on their views.
most people are simply genuinely ignorant to the issues they're talking about - they just pick their views up from the news and the world around them and express opinions because that's what every person does. if you run in there and tell them they're scum for it, what then? if someone does that to you, are you going to think "maybe i should do some research" or are you going to think "this person is an asshole, im blocking them." a lot of you think you're activists and then refuse to do any kind of actual WORK to support your cause.
#this is not about the isr*el thing even tho thats obviously a huge issue rn#its just a pattern ive observed online#im not saying you have to be kind to people who oppress you dont twist my words#but if youre trying to support any cause and you think calling people names is going to help#youre a fucking idiot lol#people call themelves activists and pro-X cause because they called their opposition dirty c*nts online#how the hell is that meant to help anyone? theyre just going to retreat into their propaganda chambers because you proved what the leaders#of those spaces have been telling them#you can obvs block people if you dont want to deal w them but thats a neutral action. sending abuse harms ur cause.#text#like educating ignorant people is hard work! yeah! its also the entire fucking point of activisim#and if you think its too much effort then just stop pretending you give a shit tbh#like my parents managed to change our neighbour's very xenophobic stance on migrants with a calm conversation#some people will listen and some wont and shes not exactly going out to protests for migrants rights but shes not hostile anymore#and a lot of yall think that isnt good enough but let me tell you it IS good because these things take time!#unlearning things is MUCH harder than learning them in the first place and a lot of people grew up in environments that taught them#very discriminatory and conservative views and its actually not their fault. and its hard to educate yourself differently on something you#have no idea is not true. where do you start w that?
