the thing about ivypool is by the time avos rolls around, she's an established and respected warrior of thunderclan. her doubling down on following the status quo and abiding by societal expectations is rewarded. she's already trained an apprentice and is given another, she's got an established family (as shittily written as it is), and her word is what stops the skyclan search party from happening.
and she uses that social power to take it out on her sister, who straight up textually is shown to not only not have that social power, but be receiving social repercussions because she doesn't abide by societal expectations.
this scene where ivypool goes "you see i sabotaged the patrol to find your lost family because i'm controlling of my sister and bigoted about cross-clan relationships" and twigpaw is like omg :( ivypool of course i forgive you that's so sympathetic drives me insane. like yeah sure ivypool apologizes but the fact the narrative has twigpaw reinforce ivypool's bigotry as understandable is bad!! ivypool is not at all sympathetic here
her admitting this should've damaged their relationship. the book could've done something interesting by having ivypool's controlling streak start having consequences for her other relationships!!
#this is not a case of two equal parties it is one who is using her social power to punish someone who doesnt!!#intention or not ivy is rewarded for doubling down on her close mindedness

#every ivy fucked up moment followed by an apology is almost always boring and revolves around the narrative#assuring the reader ivy is endlessly sympathetic and im like. i don't care about her hang ups get over them#and leave dove alone#scenes that piss me off because people claim you're taking it out of the context#and then the actual context of twig's forgiveness is WORSE

I really need a good Bojack horseman style apology like Bojack did to herb for dove and ivy. They reconcile and he apologies and herb says "I know you're apologizing and I do not forgive you"
Dove can see the growth that Ivy's been going through and understand the grief she's feeling from britsle's death but is not willing to ever rebuild that bridge. Ivy gets mad and doesn't understand why she won't accept her apology. God just.
If you want to keep cats relevant past their arca you need to make their conflict continue as well. Erin's give me Ivypool I don't trust you with her
REAL REAL REAL. I think Ivypool having to realize her sister will be friendly to her and the two can have moments of getting along, but also Dovewing does not forgive and does want her in her life the way Ivypool does is far more interesting than what canon does. I also think Ivypool having interesting consequences with the relationships she has (instead of a boring tepid apology that fixes everything) makes her a better character and more compelling to read.

deeply concerned about how smoke is going to be written but also with how sleekwhisker will be written. the authors have a choice to make but their track record makes me fear the worst.

the people who adopted Pinestar keep saying every year "yeah the vet told us he was probably 10 when we got him but I guess they were wrong because he'd be 30 by now, what is he, immortal?"
I know there's some stuff disputing it but I've always like the hc that Henry is Pinestar and he intentionally tells stories to scare away kittypets from entering the forest to protect them

Tbh I think people reverse Ivy and Dove's roles in tradition bc of their personalities. People think Ivy is a rebellious revolutionary type bc she's violent and quarrelsome, as opposed to Dove being more gentle and empathetic. But Ivy only joined the Dark Forest bc it made her feel good about herself, not out of any rejection of societal injustice or anything. And Dove breaks the rules when it's to help others as she believes is right (helping cats from other clans who are in need, loving her boyfriend even though he's from another clan, etc etc) Which Ivy constantly harps on bc Ivy wants to *uphold* tradition. You don't have to be violent or mean to be counterculture, and being violent or mean does not make you counterculture, if that makes sense, but people in the fandom get it mixed up
I mean like I said, the aesthetics of the dark forest trump the actual textual messaging they have for the fandom, whom a lot remember via maps and whatnot.
