Okay, I've spoken to several of you who like both of these things and I need to know how deep this runs because it's an 'if I had a nickel for each time this thing happened, I'd have (x) nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened (x) times' thing-
#contestshipping#shuuharu#totally ok to rb/add commentary in the tags. i am so nosy#I am TRULY curious because I have anecdotally/personally found such a huge overlap lmao. I can name like five or six of you.#which-again- not a lot but given the community's dwindling current size that feels rather notable?#it makes total sense to me tbh. obviously there's large differences#but I feel like it taps into a similar 'poorly socialized guy x the girl who hates him but oh wait there's mutual growth because of E/O'-#- kinda thing.#again obviously there's way more to P&P than that. literary besties don't kill me. but like you see my simplified point right lol?#there's also way more to Lizzie and Darcy than that but you know what I meannnnnnnnnnn#sorry for the disclaimers but i can hear the 'shipping has ruined your ability to do literary analysis' brigade from here lmfao.#like okay well maybe for you. i can multitask but this is my shippy blog so of course I'm focusing on that part more BUT ANYWAYS#i've just met way too many people who like both things for me to not make a poll about it at this point.#or is it just a thing of how p&p is so popular and iconic that ANY random fandom niche would have a similar overlap???#idk. does anyone want to make a poll for their fandom niche and see if it's just a P&P thing???#let's compare. besties. let us band together#someone else do this for their own ship/corner/niche/etc#and of course tumblr polls are statistically useless in most ways available BUT it's interesting.

i heard manager series?
I have been summoned
also wym angst season 🙁 tis the season of JOY and you’re BREAKING MY HEART (plz continue🤭)
-🐹
HELPP ME for me december is the season of ✨angst ✨ idk why it just IS. but my 12 days of christmas is gonna be all fluff
yes i miss manager series sm, let’s do some headcanons rn now that im thinking about it 🤗 (yes these were in my notes ive been waiting for this)
The freshmen this season are clingy. They immediately latch onto you like baby ducklings and are constantly looking for your approval.
Paige jokes that you’ve got “new toddlers,” but she secretly gets a little jealous when they monopolize your attention. KK is quick to remind them who the original favorite is:
KK: “Y’all can hang out with manager, but don’t forget—I built this relationship.”
TikTok remains a chaotic mess this season, with you reluctantly dragged into every challenge, dance and prank video.
The team introduces a new “Manager Cam,” where they document your reactions during games and road trips.
Fans are OBSESSED.
Paige once stole your phone mid-practice and went live, narrating your every move
Paige: “And here we have the elusive manager in her natural habitat, organizing chaos like a queen.”
You: “Paige, I will delete all your playlists.”
Manager x Paige Moments
Still Keeping it Low-Key (Kinda)
By this point, the team knows about your relationship, but Paige insists on keeping the PDA subtle.
Subtle... except for the way she stares at you during team meetings or how she casually drapes her arm over your chair during dinner.
The freshmen think Paige’s protectiveness is just a team thing until they catch her sneaking forehead kisses when she thinks no one’s looking.
Game Day Rituals
Paige starts a pre-game ritual where she insists on a “good luck hug” from you before every game. The team starts teasing her about it relentlessly.
Azzi: “You’re so subtle, P.”
Paige: “Jealous?”
Fans compile videos of Paige hyping you up on live streams, TikTok, and Instagram.
Paige’s favorites: Paige scrolling through your phone gallery: “My wife’s an artist, guys.”
You ranting about the chaos in the locker room: “You’re so cute when you’re mad, P.”
Paige caught staring at you for the 500th time.
Long Bus Rides = Chaos
The team uses bus rides to get creative with pranks, and you’re often their favorite target.
One time, they taped a life-size cutout of Paige to your seat, captioning it “Manager’s emotional support girlfriend.” You pretended to be mad but secretly found it hilarious.
Paige’s retaliation? She confiscated all the Red Bulls, leaving the team in a sleepy stupor for the next bus rides
Late-Night Conversation
On late-night rides back to campus, you and Paige always end up huddled together in the back of the bus, whispering about anything and everything.
KK once tried to eavesdrop but got caught immediately.
You: “What’re you doing, KK?”
KK: “Uh... team bonding?”
Locker Room Drama and Resolutions aka Conflict Mediator Extraordinaire
This season, you’ve become the go-to person for resolving team drama.
Paige jokingly calls it “Momager Diplomacy,” but you take the role seriously, ensuring the team stays united.
Your “manager death stare” remains undefeated. A single look from you has even the loudest arguments settling within seconds.
Manager Popularity Skyrockets
Thanks to the “Manager Cam” and your frequent appearances on team socials, fans are OBSESSED with you.
A TikTok trend emerges where fans recreate your iconic death stare. Paige films herself trying to imitate it and fails miserably.
Paige: “I just don’t have the same terrifying... yet oddly hot... energy.”
Despite the team knowing, fans are still speculating about your relationship with Paige.
A clip of Paige adjusting your hoodie during a timeout goes viral, with fans captioning it: “Wife behavior.”
Paige still leans on you heavily, especially during stressful games or tough days.
After one particularly hard loss, you stayed up with her in the hotel lobby, holding her hand while she vented.Paige: “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
You: “Luckily, you’ll never have to find out.”

This Week in BL - We In A Slump, but help might be coming from a very strange source
Organized, in each category, with ones I'm enjoying most at the top.
Sept 2024 Week 4
Ongoing Series - Thai
Jack & Joker (Thai Mon IQIYI) ep 3 of 12 - I don’t have a lot to say except that the plot is somewhat predictable but the show is still very engaging. War is fantastic. I’m enjoying it a hell of a lot.
Monster Next Door (Thai Thurs Gaga ) ep 10 of 12 - The second leads are getting better in this one. I understand where they are coming from, which makes their conflict so much more understandably painful, and honest to a friends2lovers trope. The main couple is kinda standard college relationship drama, but they are cuties.
Kidnap (Fri YT) ep 4 of 12 - How is Ohm so damn gorgeous? Meanwhile, babies’ first argument. And it’s sponge bath time. Q has got to be wondering if Min is as meticulous with all kinds of care and attention to detail all......the......time. Somebody here in the hellhole said something about this being "the most BL to ever BL." And I think they’re right. At least right now. Although, watch out, we got us a new contender from the east.
I Saw You in My Dream (Weds Gaga) ep 11 of 12 - I do love the continuation of the perversion, in a good way, of the punishment trope from last week's episode. Oh, has the show finally remembered its title? NO SINGING.
Addicted Heroin (Thai Tues WeTV) ep 7 of 10 - More kidnapping and an attack and now there’s a girl involved and somebody’s going to China and I don’t understand anything! And I don’t really care. Is this how the actual book originally went? Because it’s wild. Also TOO MANY of flashbacks. I guess they got a bit of a boyfriend era, and the claiming during the water fight was cute, but otherwise...... meh
Love Sick 2024 (Thai Sun iQIYI) ep 2 of 15 - One shouldn’t make comparisons, of course, but all I can think about is how amazing Captain was as Noh in the original series. Thus this show is mostly just making me want to rewatch the original. It’d be an interesting twist to have Aim be queer instead of a damaged cool girl slut. Was the helmet hand letting go a foreshadow of the iconic bookstore hands letting go? Also, I gotta say for the second episode of a series there are already too many flashbacks. Why are they using filler when they have so much content crammed into so few (comparable) episodes for a series? It’s annoying. Stop it.
Live in Love (Sun Gaga) ep 4 of 5 - This show has some interesting, if heavy handed, things to say about shipping and trolling, but also predatory/proprietary female behavior. It’s fascinating to see it tackled head on, if handled in a profoundly clumsy manner. I’m not sure how I feel about it. That said, most of this episode was actually an advertisement for a resort in Phuket.
Bad Guy My Boss (Thai Sun Gaga) ep 2 of 10 - I'm getting What's Wrong with Secretary Kim? vibes from this show. Only this is WAY more bullying. It’s very old-fashioned 90’s billionaire romance novel only gay. It’s never a good sign when I’m watching two boys kiss and I really want one of them to just bite the other ones lip off instead.
Battle of the Writers (Sun YT) ep 9 of 12 - No ep this week.
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
Sugar Dog Life (Japan Sun grey) ep 8 of 10 - Gosh it’s so frikin adorable. Baby got sick. He has SUCH A CRUSH. And such a courageous little confession! Yay! Can’t wait for next week.
Teenager Judge (Vietnam Sat YouTube) ep 1 - sure, yes this is, in fact, just Ba Vinh doing his thing with pretty boys again. And yet...... There is a REASON this leapt into the standings guns blazing. So it’s high school set but it's stepbrothers trope. (My, aren’t we popular this year?) I know, but I NEVER get tired of this trope. We got us Bach (BV's sullen tsundere) and Dat (babygirl meets bully). It’s GREAT how the brothers' dynamic is entirely different at school than when they're at home. My ear isn’t trained for Vietnamese, but I think Dat is using different pronouns depending on his location (his personality entirely shifts when he’s at school). I’m not sold on the Bach character, although I always trust BV to serve in the end (at least we know the kisses will be good), but Dat is utterly in love, a touch spicy, and reasonably complex. The surrounding cast is good too, my favorite pretty boy is there playing top dog (woof), and one of the besties is out gay (YAY!). The plot of the show is...... well...... absent. Nothing happened. But if we are aiming for Love Sick slice of life style BL, I'm game. Subs are appropriately terrible and confusing. But I like it A FUCK TON so far, so I’m gonna keep it in rotation. Nice to have Vietnam back in play. What a shocker.
2024 has been a year of upsets.
Love is Like a Poison AKA Doku Koi: Doku mo Sugireba Koi to Naru (Japan Tues Netflix?) 3 of 10 eps - I weirdly enjoyed the farcical music and the utter absurdity of the court case. I also liked how it highlighted what a good team these two are. Frankly I don’t mind a bit of an antihero sleazy lawyer + conman, it's engaging. I’m getting wholesome out of Thailand. I don’t really need it from Japan at the moment. Also I don’t believe for one second our conman actually is serious about the relationship. Conmen gonna con. I'm reminded of the scorpion and the frog fable.
First Note Of Love (Taiwan Mon Gaga) ep 8 of 12 - I love Orca so much. I do not love the autotuned version of Orca, but I knew what I was in for with this particular show, it's in the title after all. I did laugh a whole lot when Laing used kha. Hon, I don't think that word means what you think it means......
The On1y One (Taiwan Thurs Gaga) eps 11-12fin - I never thought I’d say this, but the pacing was off in the penultimate episode. Taiwan, and its chronic misuse of flashbacks strikes again. That said we eventually got a "lock in" trope and Wang being the biggest little flirt shit in the cafe OMG!!! Of course, you shouldn’t use a girl to torment your bf, but it was so well done, I can’t really complain. Meanwhile, teacher kisses. And now I understand exactly why they’re present in this narrative. Clever. Bummer of a burden on that ending though. I cannot see how they’ll manage to stick this landing. [That was ep 11]
AND NOW EP 12 - doomey doomey doom
Not the water bottle trope! Argh the teenage lust of it all. Just stop it. Wang is so smart he knows exactly how bad he has to be to leave the class. And his bf certainly knows that too. And......
......
So that was not an ending and I’m not happy about it and no one is surprised. Even I’m not surprised. I’m just disappointed. Even tho I suspected this was where we were headed I'm disappointed. That’s it. That’s all I got. How do I review something that was such a crushing let down?
Conclusion:
Based on a Mou Mou novel + the Your Name Engraved Herein team, this is old-school coming of age BL and it was bloody fantastic. Tsundere seme to beat all tsundere (smartest + tallest + bestest at everything but people) meets socially-ept cutie smart-ass uke. They're living together by end of ep 1 and start kissing by end of ep 2. A stellar tense slow burn stepbrothers trope that ate my life and than just belly-flopped the finale. What I'm left with is epic levels of disappointment and well...... at least nobody died? My standard "fatally flawed" rating for any BL is 4/10 so I guess that’s what I’m giving it.
Before you ask me for the stats: Taiwan does not have a history of second seasons. I went ahead and ran the numbers and the odds are certainly not in our favor. I put the chances at 2%.
Yes, I contemplated a revenge rating of 2/10 but even I'm not that mean.
It's airing but...
The Hidden Moon (Sat WeTV) ep 1 of 10 - This is a supernatural romance (my ghost boyfriend trope) by Violet Rain (I Feel You Linger). A man is hired to write an article about an old mansion in Chiang Mai being converted into a café. He sees the ghosts of people who died at the mansion, falls in love with one of them. Was substantially recast. I loved IFYLITA except the ending so I think I'll let this one run it's course you can tell me if it's work tracking down... if they managed to land it. I have my doubts.
In Case You Missed It
Falling For My Boss is vertical format (nash) short from Korean BL about a happy-go-unlucky man who keeps losing his flower shop business because of romantically misbehaving employees (apparently it's a thing). When his best employee brings in a new boy he's worried she's falling for him, but it turns out it's his own heart on the line. He a clueless softy and The Boy is a lost broken sweetheart, making this a gentle little snippet of a show. There's a baby linguistic negotiation, some hung slinging, awkward handholds, and everyone is very pretty. For me the absence of kisses and the vertical format were more annoying than the length, which felt fine but many viewers will find too short. I enjoyed the 30 minutes of cute. All of which makes this a solid 7/10 from me. It was originally only available on this one ap in very short form with ads so I wasn't gonna bother. Then some kind soul cut it together without ads and stuck it up for download. Say thank you.
Oddball recommendation next: This podcast episode touches on some stuff we see in Thai BL so I think it's worth listening to. Journalist Dominic Faulder on the Complex History Between Thailand & Myanmar
Happy of the End (Japan Gaga) - Completed its run. A boy is disowned for being gay, dumped by his boyfriend, and ends up in a dysfunctional co-dependant relationship with his would-be kidnapper. We were due for another messy JBL and it's exactly as expected. I do not like it at all and DNFed. Gossip round the hellhole is that was a solid decision.
Marriage Equality Law has officially been enacted in Thailand...
Yes the actual law. Goes into effect Jan 22, 2025
Next Week Looks Like This:
Upcoming BLs for 2024 are listed here. This list is not kept updated, so please leave a comment if you know something new or RP with additions.
Coming Oct 2024:
10/3 Fourever You (Thai iQIYI?) 16 eps - New directs Earth (UWMA, 12%) + Pond (Century of Love, 180 Degrees), Bas (Gen Y, 2 Moons) + Maxky (Why You… Y Me?) and other familiar faces like Bever. Sampler pack university BL from Wabi Sabi that looks like it's trying to be a gay Boys Over Flowers (4 older med students hot boys) and I'm not mad about it. Trailer Not sure who's distributing this but my guess is iQIYI since they had the last few from this house.
10/7 Every You Every Me (Thai Gaga) 10 eps - Jade and Chin have lived over a thousand lifetimes. In each one they somehow manage to fall in love with each other. (This pair, TopMick was piloted in a My Universe ep, that was one of the only ones I liked.)
10/10 Eccentric Romance (Korea ????) 12 eps - Silkwood’s 2nd Thai/Korean colab, that has been in production since 2022 which is a LONG time in the BL world. I'm worried but I like the concept: friends of 10 years who’ve been hiding feelings for each other enter the same university. Plus MURDER.
10/10 Gangster and His Boyfriend (Korea ????) 8 eps? - Kim Dong Bin (famous trainee & idol reality competitor, yeah that happens) stars as a fallen idol who unexpectedly becomes entangled in a gangster family. Discovers that his friend’s father is responsible for the murder of his entire family years ago. I don't know much about this one, neither does anyone else and I'm not sure where I got that release date so……
10/21 Love in the Big City (Korea ????) 8 eps - Adaptation of Booker-nominated famous coming of age novel of the same title by Park Sang-Young. Cynical yet fun loving student writer Young pinballs from home, to class, to Tinder matches. He and Jaehee, his female besie and roommate, frequent nearby bars where they push away their worries about life, love, and money with soju. As time passes Jaehee settles down and leaves Young to face his problems on his own. Young finding comfort in the arms of the series of men, including one whose handsomeness is matched by his coldness and another who might be the great love of his life. Not really BL. Stars Kim Go-eun (The King: Eternal Monarch), Noh Sang-hyun, and Nam Yoon Su (The King’s Affection). This already released as a movie and isn't very well regarded, this date is supposedly an international release as a series. I'm wary of it being BL.
THIS WEEK’S BEST MOMENTS
I got nothing, The On1y One drove me into a funk.
(Last week)
Streaming services are listed by how I (usually) watch, which is with a USA based IP, and often offset by a day because time zones are a pain.

Hi, sorry but could you recommend any of your favourite Peter Parker fics please?
For sure !!! *cracks open ao3 bookmarks*
Thirty Hours by polaroid15 - Peter doesn't take any breaks during a lengthy fight with the Avengers. The mind-melting fever that follows really should have been expected.
Hurt Peter Parker, my favourite tag <3 I love when Spider-Man is a badass and also lacks self-preservation. He's so cool fighting alongside the Avengers and we get some sweet hurt/comfort irondad!
Fitting In (Tiny Spaces) by aloneintherain - Peter's trapped beneath a collapsed building during a mission, hurt and unable to move. Luckily, his comm still works. Unluckily, the Avengers don’t realise how bad of a state Peter is in, and Peter isn’t inclined to tell them.
This fic is an icon in the fandom and for GOOD REASON. I just can not get enough of Peter Parker hiding his injuries. More heavy whump and angst!
All good things come in threes by Bergen - Peter has three secret identities: Spider-Man, the superhero who swings around the city to save people. Parker Benjamin, who gives Tony Stark unsolicited advice on his research. And NightMonkey, the Instagrammer who keeps uploading increasingly popular but embarrassing drawings of Iron Man.
And he can juggle them all just fine, thankyouverymuch.
Okay here is the fluff!!! Peter is a genius, a menace, and a sweetheart. Tony Stark runs into him (again and again) and can't help but have a soft spot for him every time. Funny and cute and an all 'round good time!
Held Together by Spiderwebs by TunaFishChris - Steve is not coping well in the twenty-first century. At all. Three months after the Chitauri invasion, he decides he's had enough.
But just as he's about to end it all, he runs into the new hero in town.
This one focuses a lot on Steve but I really like him and Peter's relationship in it, and I think this is great Peter Parker characterization. TW for discussions of depression and suicide, it gets a bit dark!
5 Times Spider-Man Saved an Avenger's Ass (and 1 Time They Saved Him) by TunaFishChris - this fic showcases how strong and capable Peter is, he's definitely a BAMF. I really like this genre where the Avengers know Spider-Man but not Peter Parker, makes Peter feel more independent and mature like in the comics.
Five Time Faculty Members Had to Call Peter's Emergency Contact + One Time He Shows Up Anyway, Five Times Tony Stark's Fabled Intern Just Showed Up + One Time He Was Invited, and Five Times Strangers Talked About Peter and Tony + One time Someone They Know Did by kingdomfaraway - I am just gonna recommend this entire series. Super fluffy, extreme irondad and spiderson. They're just adorable from an outside perspective and I love when Peter gets to just be Tony's intern and a teenager for a while :)
research and disaster by blueh - “So, uh, Mr. Stark definitely knows Roomba-Kid,” Becket says and discreetly tilts his head in the direction of the pair.
“Oh my god,” Jess says. She almost sounds gleeful. “Oh my god, he’s not just some random kid. He’s Mr. Stark’s kid.”
or: the interns at Stark Industries have some questions about Peter Parker. The answers aren’t quite what they expect.
I just love intern Peter mk? Let him be a kid genius and have fun!!! Fluffy and humorous, again with the irondad.
Captain, Oh My- Not My Captain! by uncouth_peasant - Peter swallowed hard before firing a web to swing into the fray. “Cap’s going after civilians. I’m out of time.”
Bruised and bloody men <3. Just Peter being a badass and getting beat to a pulp. Cool fighting, lots of Peter whump, and of course the Avengers being protective.
Good publicity by Bergen - Between Peter Parker barely speaking, and Spider-Man being the ultimate chatterbox, how was Tony ever supposed to figure out that they were one and the same person?
Tony Stark is secretly a softie for cute kids, especially when they're a genius and have a sense of humour to rival his own. Peter is a foster kid who ends up finding a home with Pepper and Tony, very sweet.
The Third Option by Uncertainty_Principle - When Ben is murdered Peter goes into foster care. It takes just a tiny taste of superpowers for Peter to decide he doesn’t want to put up with his horrible foster father anymore—the streets are infinitely more appealing. All he wants is to be Spider-Man anyway.
So he leaves, simple.
Simple, that is, until Iron Man needs Spider-Man’s help.
Heavy TW for this one, mind the tags. This is a popular fic and for good reason. A very mature and realistic portrayal of the foster care system and homelessness. The Peter angst is really great and I could barely put it down, that boy needs a hug so bad.
Now here's some hydra!Peter fics cuz they're my jam:
Peter is a precious chickpea by Bergen - They attack the HYDRA safe house shortly before sunrise.
The only people defending said safe house are Peter and Leo, and Leo slams his cell door open and starts spitting out orders, but then promptly gets clobbered over the head and keels sideways.
So that just leaves Peter. And he’s not even going to try to fight a whole team of Avengers. He looks up at Iron Man filling the doorway. “I surrender.”
He’s never been captured before and he’s not sure what to do. Escape, probably.
This entire series is PERFECT. I just love how adorable Peter is, and all the relationships Peter forms with the Avengers absolutely melt my heart. Peter's characterization in this is really unique and I wish there was more. The Bucky and Peter friendship is everythingggg. I love hydra!peter and bucky fics.
Indoctrination by phoenixon - The Avengers thought they were on a typical assignment: Infiltrate the Hydra base and find the weapon. What they didn't expect was the small boy raised by Hydra that they found instead. And they definitely didn't expect him to stay at Avengers Tower or how he somehow wormed his way into their lives. As for Peter, he just wants to be good and obey what the Hydra men told him so he doesn't get in trouble.
I just really love hydra Peter changing into a sweet and intelligent boy once he's rescued and safe, and how all the Avengers take up such heart-warming parental roles around him.
out there, living in the sun by Hailfire_73 - The Avengers rescue Peter from a Hydra base ran by his father, Richard Parker, except Peter doesn't really see it as a rescue, and has trouble settling into a new life away from Hydra and his father at the Avengers compound. OR - Peter learns how to be an actual teenager, live life, and put his abusive past behind him, and Tony learns how to be a father.
Hydra Peter but he's most definitely a traumatized and moody teenager. I really enjoyed Peter's character arc and the exploration of his trauma. It felt more realistic the way his journey isn't just a straight or clear path. He's more mature in this one and it was a really compelling read, balancing the angst with some humour and fluff. Loved the ending.
Tinker, Tailor, Spider by Bergen - Tony is roped into a mission to transport a teenager to safety. But when things go south, it soon becomes more and more puzzling who the teenager is and what ‘safety’ means for him.
I really enjoy that the author doesn't water Peter being hydra down. Yes he is a highly skilled assassin and a badass who's trauma pervades his every thought and decision. Made me fall in love with the Tony, Pepper, Morgan and Peter as a family dynamic. Super domestic while still highlighting Peter's troubled past.

Did you ever figure out what's Snape's pronoun in japanese? 👀 I'm curious
I have jumped through so many hoops... I want to buy the hardcovers in Japanese, so I didn't want to spend money just to check a word... but piracy is hard for Japanese things... So I've signed up for an Amazon kindle unlimited thingy account and Amazon is useless in my country nobody has a fucking amazon account
AND THEN to read it I have to download the KINDLE APP on on my PC and log into AMAZON on it uuugh whinge whinge complain tantrum
I got all the japanese books - and I've been tipped off that he might use 'Wagahai' and FUCK do I hope he uses wagahai but it seems I cannot use the search function with kanji. Nor does it seem to search through furigana. Only hiragana and katakana. uuuugghhhhhh So I just need to... search for Snapes name in every book and scour the pages. Cool. Cool.
So I am looking through each book's every mention of スネイプ... Dumbledore uses 'Washi' and is, as always, delightful - using the typical old man 'jya's. I hope he and Sebarusu enjoyed their umasou custard tarts. Shoutout to Suneipu's poisonous eyes at Hari- and Ron.
わしゃ、あれを一口食べてみたい" sounds so much cuter in Japanese
I got ONE 'Watashi' - but I'm not satisfied with it. It's in a note written for Slytherin to train their new seeker. "I, Professor Snape,"
『私、スネイプ教授は、本日クィディッチ・ピッチにいて、新人シーカーを教育する必要があるため、スリザリン・チームが練習することを許可する』
秘密の部屋 (p. 167) But a note is formal. What does he call himself casually...?
「校長、一言よろしいですかな」 影の中からスネイプの声がした。ハリーの不吉感がつのった。
秘密の部屋 (p. 218) ("Headmaster, May I have a word." From within shadows came Snape's voice. Harry's sense of foreboding increased.) Unrelated - just iconic af.
BUT I FOUND IT!!!!
HE USES WAGAHAI!!! He is SO cat themed in Japanese, what the hell... English its always bats and spiders, Japan is straight up like 'He purrs and is a cat' ... For people who don't know: Wagahai is an old-timey male pronoun. It's long been out of use and sounds arrogant, pompous, formal... "I'm better than you. I look down on you. You're a peasant; I'm a Lord." It re-gained popularity within fiction because of the 1905 book about a teachers pet cat by Natsume Souseki, 吾輩は猫である (I am a cat). It is STRONGLY associated with that book and cats in general. It's almost always used for non-human characters, especially to give an 'old military man' or 'from a different time' feel.
#severus snape#hp#albus dumbledore#japanese hp#wagahai#SNAPE IS A CAT IN JAPANESE#REJOICE ALL YE WHO LIKE CATS LIKE... ALOT#I see you drawing him with cat years or as one of those real weird lookin cats - you are justified.

What are your favorite outfits for Ratchet from the games?
Good question!
As far as the armors go, I usually never actually use them in the majority of the games I play (unless they're forced onto me, like Deadlocked's or 2016's). But I do have my favorites.
Holoflux
Shocking probably no one, Holoflux is the best. People often say it's their favorite, and that's for good reason— it looks incredibly good on Ratchet. I definitely don't enjoy drawing this armor that much, but I still will do it from time to time because I like it that much, and Ratchet gets pretty privilege.
It's also cool that this armor matches Azimuth pretty well, and I like that it has the "powered down" version in cutscenes. It makes the finale hit that much harder. This is the only armor where I know it's my favorite. The others are in no particular order.
Quest
Quest for Booty's armor was always rather charming to me, but it got even better once I recognized it had the Apogee insignia on the belt. I am a Talwyn and Ratchet stan at heart, so this pulled this armor above some others just because of that detail. But putting that aside, it also really fits the game it's in and makes Ratchet look like an explorer. He matches Talwyn quite nicely, too, which fits since she's his companion in this game.
Rebel
Oh my god this armor stole my HEART for so long. I am begging Insomniac to give us more casual fits in the next entry because this armor spoiled me so much. I love the graffiti Clank on the left hand, I love the little jacket, I love how the full gear doesn't cover his face... it's just adorable. Such a good fit that suits Ratchet so much and it's definitely my favorite new armor in Rift Apart.
Infernox
As far as armors that cover Ratchet's face go, Infernox was always one of my favorites as a kid. Something about its color palette and overall "flame" vibe just screamed early-Ratchet to me. I really like this one, and I definitely prefer it over the more popular Carbonox armor. Then again, I'm also a sucker for Up Your Arsenal. :P
2002
Not an armor but an absolute classic look. Of all the ones here, it's my favorite to draw since it lets me draw more of Ratchet's fur. It broke my heart to know that IG really wanted to put it in to Rift Apart, but was unable to find a way. I hope they try to do it for the next game, but I'll understand even if they can't. It's just one of the best looks for Ratchet. So iconic.
Marauder
Listen. This armor is really cool looking, and I like it, and I especially like that Deadlocked lets me take off the helmet too... but boy, this bitch is painful to draw. Simplifying it almost feels heinous to do, since it's just so cool looking but GAH!!!! If you ever wonder why I never update the Deadlocked Together AU, it's because of this!!! This painful armor!!!!!!
That aside, this armor fits the tone of the game so well. It's edgy, it's brooding, it's dark. I love it. The only thing I don't like is the fact they hide his tail :(
Tuxedo
Despite always playing Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal exclusively without armor when I play, you would never be able to tell because I love wearing the tuxedo Ratchet skins. Somethin about formal Ratchet makes me have heart eyes. Very kissable.
Robot Pirate
While I obviously prefer rebel, this was one of the only other armors in Rift Apart that I found myself using for Ratchet. The scarf really looks good on him, and I'm very fond of the chest plate. If it weren't for Quest armor's inclusion, I would always wear this armor when going to Ardolis.
Comics
Last but not least (because tumblr says I should stop adding images)... the comic outfits. Once again, the casual Ratchet outfits are always going to score higher for me. I loveeeee seeing my boy look more casual. And while the left image looks a lot like his normal outfit, I prefer it more for keeping it loose. That, and something about that blue chest piece never sat right with me. In a perfect world, I think it would have stayed green to keep his earthy tones in tact even after Tools of Destruction.
And the overalls are just. Mwah. Chef's kiss. What a dork. He's so cute. I love him.
Thanks for the ask!

Therianthropy Alphabet
credit to @local-xenogender-icon for the alphabet!
A - awakening
I always remember running around pretending to be a deer and always drawing/seeing myself as a deer. I used to push these away when I was older and never thought about it until I realized that therianthropy was a thing and I wasn’t the only one experiencing it. After that I narrowed my theriotype down to a caribou (yes, I know there are subspecies but they’re all very similar so I just say caribou).
B - balance
My therianthropy affects the way I communicate with other people, and my hobbies. It doesn’t affect my work/school/life balance as much, aside from little “quirks” like being afraid of loud noises, being very attached to people, etc
C - city
I don’t live in a city, I live in a rural area, which I’m very grateful for.
D - diary
I do have an alter human diary! It’s mostly just documenting shifts or drawing, and also functions as a regular journal.
E - experience in the community
I’ve had an extremely positive experience in the alterhuman community on Tumblr, and I’m eternally grateful for this because it helped me untangle my therianthropy identity and figure out who I am. Other social media platforms, not so much.
F - friends
None of my friends know I’m a therian, but I have a friend who is a furry who I think suspects.
G - gear
I don’t really feel the need for gear, but I get why people like it. If I had enough money, I might look into buying something, but mostly gear is centered around foxes/wolves/cats, and it would be hard to find caribou gear. I would have to buy a commission which is very expensive.
I - identity
I only have one theriotype, which is a caribou. I’ve yet to meet another caribou, but I have met so many other deer, who have all been super cool!
J - jokes
I love making little jokes about my identity, because it is very silly if you think about it.
K - knowldege
On a scale of 1-10, I would say my knowledge of alterhumanity is a 7 or 8. I still have a lot to learn.
L - liking, loving
I don’t think I could’ve had a “better” theriotype, a caribou is a lovely animal that I am grateful to be.
N - nature
My theriotype lives in northern parts of North America, and in Europe. They are migratory, so they don’t have one specific territory or anything.
O - otherhearted
Tbh I don’t really know the difference between otherhearted and therianthropy but I don’t think I’m otherhearted.
P - popularity
My theriotype isn’t very popular (unless it’s Christmas). Fun fact: in North America, caribou are called reindeer when they’re domesticated, but in Europe, they’re always called reindeer.
R - real body
I get species dysphoria from time to time.
S - sex
I never really thought about the sex of my theriotype? It’s kind of hard to tell really.
T - traits
-fear of loud noises/sudden noise
-foraging for food (gardening mostly)
-head butting things
-communicating with grunts, moving my head, pointing with my feet, or flicking my “ears” (that don’t exist bc phantom shift)
-running/hiking in the woods and swimming
-flight instinct
Urges
I think this question was centered more towards therians with prey drive instincts, because my urges are mostly just to run away, swim in random bodies of water, eat the grass, and restlessness.
W - wondering
Leaving the question here for context: “How do you think you would look like, if you could psychically shapeshift into your therio/kintype? (Describe or put an image here!)”
Y - yarn
Leaving this question for context too: “If you wanted to buy/make a tail, would it be real fur or fake/yarn fur?”
Caribou don’t have tails…
Z - zoo (as in the place)
I like zoos that are there for protection of a species or rehabilitation. I think there can be a lot of abuse involved, though.

Top 15 Werewolves
If there is a specific trifecta of truly classic monsters - a Terrible Trio as iconic together as they are separate - it would undoubtedly be Count Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, and the Werewolf. The interesting thing there is that, while “Dracula” and “Frankenstein” are specific creations, the werewolf is more woolgathering. (Ha-Ha! Sheep puns for the win!) There is no Bram Stoker or Mary Shelley novel for the werewolf that everyone looks to for inspiration and remakes, reimagines, or re-adapts over and over again. Yet, at the same time, the idea of the werewolf is older than either Dracula or Frankenstein and his progeny: werewolf myths can be traced back all the way to Ancient Greece. That’s older than even most vampire legends! And that, dear readers, is probably why this list proved…challenging. I could go on and on about the symbolism of the werewolf, the themes present in most werewolf tales, the appeal and evolution of the concept, and so on…but I’m not going to right here in this introduction, for two reasons. First of all, because I will have ample room to bring those things up throughout the countdown…and second of all, because I just want to state OH MY FREAKING GOD, YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HARD IT WAS TRYING TO MAKE THIS LIST. This was sincerely one of the most frustratingly tricky lists for me to sort out that I’ve ever made. There are multiple reasons why, but it ultimately comes down to two major ones: first, much like with vampires, I haven’t seen every single werewolf-related thing under the Sun. So I knew there were a lot of really popular werewolves that I couldn’t rightfully include simply because I don’t know anything about them. Second, for the ones I DID know, it was hard to figure out what would make certain characters count, and what would help determine who ranked higher than others. There were just a lot of different factors to consider. Just as there were two major issues that made this difficult, I ultimately made my choices based on two points. First, I decided to exclude characters who were anthropomorphic wolves, but weren’t necessarily werewolves: to qualify, the characters in question had to either shapeshift from a more human form to a more wolf-like form, or - if they were in the same form all the time - the human side had to be more the focus. Second, I simply asked myself one question: “What characters do I think of most when I think of werewolves?” That was really the plain and simple point, and I tried to approach my rankings based on that: this is not a list of the “hottest” or the “coolest” werewolves, and it is not a list of the most sympathetic or the scariest werewolves, nor is it - for a change - a list about which ones I’d rather play or write for the most. I’m still not sure the ranking here is in any way definitive. If there are wolf characters you don’t see here that you really love (I KNOW there WILL be, frankly), the chances are high that I either just don’t know them, or they just didn’t make the cut because, again, this was a very difficult list to sort out in general. If you don’t like it, make your own. :P With that said…in honor of Halloween, here are My Top 15 Favorite Werewolves!
15. Grimm, Caesar, and Douglas Wolf.
From the games “A Villain’s Twisted Heart,” “Ozmafia,” and “Lost Alice,” respectively. I decided to include all three of these characters in the same spot because a.) I like all three of them roughly the same, and b.) all three of them have a lot in common. Grimm, Caesar, and Douglas are all “anime boi” type characters, all of them originate from fairy-tale themed romance games from Japan, and all three of them are their universe’s version of the Big Bad Wolf from “Little Red Riding Hood.” All three also start off the stories they appear in as villainous characters: brutal, vicious, murderous monsters, who will gobble you up as soon as look at you. However, in all three cases, as their stories in the games go on, you do see more sympathetic sides to them; in the cases of Grimm and Caesar, you even have the option and ability to fall in love with them. Douglas remains a villain to the end, but that’s about the only EXTREMELY major difference within the trio, at least that’s worth noting for this countdown. While I love all three characters, and the obvious eye candy cannot be ignored, I frankly don’t tend to think of “sexy anime guys” first when I think of the word “werewolf,” so I decided to place them very low on the list. Sorry, for any (if any) who were hoping they’d be higher.
14. Keaton, from Fire Emblem.
Yet another “anime boi” character. (Don’t worry, if you’re not a fan; they won’t be in great abundance from this point on.) I’m not SUPER familiar with the Fire Emblem universe as a whole, but I AM fairly well-versed with at least one character, and that is Keaton. He is the leader of a pack of lycanthropes referred to as “Wolfskins”: a tribe of barbaric, man-eating hunters living in the mountains of Nohr. They are able to shapeshift from an appearance that looks basically human, but with some wolf-like traits, to huge, hulking, grotesque monsters that are even more wolfish in form. At first, Keaton is an enemy of the main characters, but he ultimately becomes an ally and a friend and joins forces with the heroes on their journey. Keaton is one of those characters I love who effectively has two different sides to his personality: on the one hand, he’s a bloodthirsty sadist who makes no secret of the fact he enjoys tormenting his prey, and even collects the bones of some of his victims. On the other hand, however, once he comes to trust you and care about you - which is absolutely possible - he suddenly becomes flat out adorable: just a scruffy, silly puppy dog who likes to act all big and scary, but really is a softy. The funny part about this is that neither side is a facade for the other: Keaton is both a savage beast and a sweetheart, and that dichotomy is just so interesting to see at work.
13. Eddie Munster, from The Munsters.
From Japanese gaming guys, to suburban USA; what a segue. “The Munsters” was a 1960s sitcom series, inspired by the popularity of “The Addams Family,” which was going on around the same time. Though it only lasted two seasons, the show made a big impact, largely due to its interesting premise: it featured a family of Universal Monsters, interacting with the normal folks of the American town around them. While the original Wolfman - here called “Uncle Lester” - did appear in a couple of episodes, the most prominent werewolf character of the series was Eddie Munster: the daughter of Herman Munster (Frankenstein’s Monster) and his lovely bride, Lily (Dracula’s Daughter). How they gave birth to Eddie is beyond me, but regardless, Eddie is probably the friendliest and most adorable werewolf you could ever meet. The character didn’t start off that way, though: in earlier ideas for the show, including an unaired pilot, Eddie was a vicious, bratty little gremlin. However, by the time the show officially aired, the character had changed into a loving, happy young fellow who simply enjoyed spending time with his dad and was never seen without his beloved werewolf plushy, Woof-Woof. The character was originally played by Butch Patrick on the TV show; like other Munsters characters, Eddie has been reimagined and reinterpreted a few times over the years, but not a single version has really had the success that the original had.
12. Jiro, from Kamen Rider Kiva.
And now we return to Japan, though this time in the world of live-action media. I’ve mentioned “Kamen Rider Kiva” a couple times this month, and on other past occasions, but for those who don’t already know: the long and the short of “Kamen Rider Kiva” is a Japanese superhero show themed around Universal Monsters. One of the main characters of the series is our resident anti-hero, Jiro - a.k.a. Garuru - the last of the Wolfen Race. Most of his most prominent appearances take place in the past scenes of the series, set in 1986. For much of that section of the series, Jiro is an antagonistic presence; unlike Universal’s Wolfman, he isn’t a tortured soul tormented by his animal nature, but instead a cynic who sees the world of humans as corrupt and filled with folly. He enjoys devouring people whole, especially young women, and is as seductive as he is dangerous. However, as the series goes on, he shows more and more of a noble side to his character. By the time of the present day in the show, Jiro has changed his ways, and now works alongside Riki (the Frankenstein Monster character) and Ramon (the Creature From the Black Lagoon) to assist the main protagonist, Wataru, on his quest to defeat the vampiric Fangires. In his human form, Jiro was played by Kenji Matsuda. As Garuru, he was played by Seiji Takaiwa.
11. Man-Wolf AND Werewolf By Night, from Marvel.
Just as Marvel has had many wizards and vampires, it is also home to multiple werewolves. And just as I credited two vampires from the comic company in the past, I’m going to credit two werewolves. First, there’s Man-Wolf; a recurring foe of Spider-Man. The Man-Wolf is actually John Jameson, the son of J. Jonah Jameson. John is an astronaut, who was transformed into the monstrous Man-Wolf thanks to a mysterious ruby he found while exploring the Moon. (As you do.) The jewel was grafted to his skin, and though it was eventually removed safely, John has returned to his Man-Wolf form off-and-on throughout comics history. Next, there’s the Werewolf By Night. A couple of people have held this title, the first and most famous being Jack Russell: a man whose entire bloodline is plagued by the curse of the werewolf. Initially a drifting beast of ambiguous alignment, the Werewolf By Night now uses his lycanthropic abilities to battle other supernatural terrors and criminal powers. While neither character is a household name, both have shown up in other media multiple times; Werewolf By Night, for instance, recently got a very interesting short film adaptation in the MCU, where Jack Russell was played by Gael Garcia Bernal. As for Man-Wolf, while John has appeared multiple times, his werewolf alter-ego isn’t QUITE as common. His most popular appearances have been in cartoon shows like “Spider-Man Unlimited” and “Ultimate Spider-Man.”
10. Ethan Chandler, from Penny Dreadful.
“Penny Dreadful” was a Showtime series that was made in homage to the various characters and tropes of “Ye Olde Gothic Horror.” The main cast consisted of a combination of original characters, as well as figures from famous works of dark classic literature, such as “Dracula” and “Frankenstein.” Ethan Chandler - played by Josh Hartnett - was sort of in-between. At the start of the series, Ethan is a gunslinger working as a performer for a Wild Bill style traveling show. He leaves show business - albeit reluctantly - after being offered a job as a bodyguard by the two main protagonists of the series, Vanessa Ives and Sir Malcolm Murray. Ethan thus joins them on their quest to find the vampire that kidnapped Sir Malcolm’s daughter and Vanessa’s friend, Mina, and thus the series is set in motion. However, things take a turn when it’s revealed Ethan has some dark secrets of his own: his real name is Ethan Talbot, and he is - what else? - a werewolf. (Interestingly, while Ethan’s true name was inspired by the Wolfman, Josh Hartnett’s werewolf makeup was inspired by an earlier Universal werewolf, the Werewolf of London.) As a man, Ethan is a charming, heroic, attractive fellow, albeit not one without flaws. When he becomes a werewolf, however, he turns into a feral, monstrous beast that has no other purpose but to kill. As a werewolf, Ethan recognizes neither friend nor foe, simply lashing out in bestial fury at anything and anyone that enters his path. As the series goes on, Ethan’s werewolf nature becomes more and more a focal point of his character, eventually leading him on a journey back home to America, where he must try to come to grips with the ghosts of his past. While Ethan’s actual werewolf form didn’t show up very often throughout the show, this just made the moments where he gave in to the beast within all the more impactful and interesting.
9. Jon Talbain, from Darkstalkers.
I’ve brought up Darkstalkers two or three times throughout this month, and it seems I must do so one last time. For those who don’t already know, this classic fighting game series was a tribute to the Universal Monsters, with characters inspired by Count Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Mummy, the Creature From the Black Lagoon, and others. Jon Talbain is our resident werewolf of this universe, and while I actually only recently got into this series and its lore, I actually knew about Talbain for a long time. The character seems to be one of the more popular in the franchise, and I’d seen a great many pieces of fanart featuring him long before I actually looked into the games and spin-off materials. Talbain is a bizarre combo of the Wolfman and Bruce Lee…no, seriously. Those were the two separate influences on his character. Talbain has been plagued by the werewolf’s curse since birth: his parents were a human and a werewolf respectively. He has lived as an orphan most of his life, as his mother died in childbirth, and his father apparently left early on. Talbain finds his lycanthropy a curse, as he is shunned by human society, which he has since formed a bit of a grudge against. While not necessarily evil, Talbain sees humanity as corrupt, prejudicial, and untrustworthy; he doesn’t go out of his way to hurt people, instead hoping to find a way to fight his primal urges, but he has no love for humanity as a whole. Now, that’s all well and good, but your probably wondering where the Bruce Lee side of things kicks in: to try and keep his powers in check, Talbain took to studying martial arts, and his moveset in the games, and his taunts, are inspired by Lee’s, with a bit of supernatural spookiness thrown in here and there. I think it’s the exposure to the aforementioned fanworks, before even learning much of the universe, that gets Jon so high in the ranks; I always liked the character’s design and the bare basics of what I knew from those pieces, and learning about him AS a character has only intensified that interest.
8. The Three Werewolves from Van Helsing.
Yes, once more we return to Stephen Sommers’ less successful attempt at managing the Universal Monsters, following his generally more lauded work with “The Mummy.” A critical and box office failure, “Van Helsing” - a tribute to classic “Monster Mash” movies of the 40s - nevertheless gained a cult following, and while it has its fair share of detractors, it also has a decent number of fans. I suppose you can count me as among them, since I do consider the movie to be something of a guilty pleasure; it’s completely over-the-top and insane, and that’s part of the fun. While characters like Dracula and the Frankenstein Monster are prominently featured, the film chooses not to adapt the Wolfman specifically, and instead gives us three different werewolves! The first is an unnamed, somewhat older-looking lycanthrope, whom Dracula sics on the last members of the Valerious family: Anna, one of the main protagonists, and her brother, Velkan. Although Velkan succeeds in slaying this werewolf, it is at the cost of becoming a werewolf himself. In his werewolf form, Velkan ironically becomes a puppet of Dracula, until he is slain by Van Helsing. But the cycle continues, as Van Helsing himself ends up bitten by Velkan in the process. This leads to a climactic final battle, where a werewolf Van Helsing duels the demonic King of the Vampires. While the CGI in this movie is notoriously “meh,” I’ve always loved the actual character/creature designs, and the three werewolves of this film are among the first I think of when I think of werewolves in general. Incidentally, Will Kemp - the actor who plays Velkan - is most well-known as a dancer; I say this because he later appeared in a ballet version of “Peter and the Wolf.” Somehow, I doubt this casting choice was a coincidence.
7. The Colony, from The Howling.
“The Howling” was a 1981 horror movie, based on a bestselling novel of the same name. I actually HAVE read this novel, for a change…BUT, I’ve only read it once, and it was a long time ago, so I really don’t remember a whole lot about it, sadly. As a result, I can really only judge the movie, but thankfully the movie is pretty good. The film is considered one of the key essential werewolf movies ever made, as it took the concept in a very different direction from most. In many past werewolf movies, the focus of the story was on the singular, outcast werewolf, who was usually depicted as a tragic figure: possessed by a literal inner monster they couldn’t really control. “The Howling,” however, changes things up: the story focuses on a young husband and wife, traumatized after an encounter with a sadistic serial killer called Eddie Quist. To try and recover, they head to a place called “The Colony,” a secluded countryside resort. It turns out, however, that the people who live at the Colony are all werewolves, and among their ranks is none other than Eddie and his family. There is nothing remotely tragic about most of the werewolves in the Colony: instead, the idea of the animal within is taken in a more twisted direction. This pack of wolf-people believe they are superior to the human race, and gleefully embrace their dark sides with wicked abandon; to become a werewolf, in their minds, is to embrace the carnal, primal, powerful sides of themselves. They are truly free and in control of the world around them. It’s an interesting and genuinely scary direction to go with the concept, and the film led to multiple sequels…none of which I’ve seen, and my understanding is that most of them suck, sadly. But hey, at least one of those sequels had Christopher Lee in the mix, so I guess they can’t be ALL bad.
6. Leon Corledo, from Curse of the Werewolf.
When Hammer studios gained Universal as a North American distributor, they were given access to use more characters and concepts from the classic Universal Monster franchise for their films. Their one and only werewolf feature, “Curse of the Werewolf,” is usually overlooked, sadly, with many dismissing it as just being Hammer’s version of “The Wolfman.” I find this incredibly saddening because - while certain story elements are shared between the films - the two movies are extremely different, and this film takes the concept of the tragic monster in its own unique direction. Played by Oliver Reed (in his first starring role for a motion picture), our werewolf of the hour is Leon Corledo. His lycanthropy is a supernatural affliction that has infected him since birth: his mother’s tragic and extremely brutal life and death have apparently led to his blood being tainted with some evil curse, which manifests itself in the form of werewolfism. Leon gains a taste for blood at an early age, and struggles to keep his vicious, predatory side at bay. As he grows older, Leon finds that the love of a beautiful woman is able to tame his inner monster, but his struggle with his cursed nature remains a hard one. Reed’s first starring performance remains one of his best, in my opinion, mixing powerful ferocity with a gentle vulnerability. While the explanation of the werewolf’s curse is a bit bizarre, the actual trials poor Leon must endure are among the most harrowing of any movie monster.
5. Jack Howl, from Twisted Wonderland.
Well, if you know me, and you know about this game, then this really shouldn’t have been a surprise. For those who are not aware already, however, “Twisted Wonderland” is a Japanese-made mobile game themed around Disney Villains. The premise has the main character getting transported to a parallel universe, where they end up staying at a School of Dark Magic, with different houses themed around seven of those villains. Throughout the game, you encounter characters based around “The Great Seven,” as well as some other Disney characters. Jack Howl, however…he’s an anomaly. Jack isn’t really based on ANY Disney character in question. He seems to be more a tribute to just…ALL the wolves Disney has given, with references to the pack from “The Jungle Book” and the more vicious predators from “Beauty and the Beast” both being made at different points. While these may have inspired Jack, he is, in essence, a totally original character. Jack is a bona-fide werewolf, able to shapeshift from a sort of “beastman” form (pictured here) to a massive silver-white timberwolf. He is also quite possibly the most adorable werewolf in history since Eddie Munster. While he looks tough and tries to act standoffish and surly, Jack is basically just a big puppy dog. Despite his constant insistences that he doesn’t really care about anyone and isn’t out to make friends, he gets attached to people quickly, is always eager for praise from those he respects, and has a strong code of personal honor (which often gets him into trouble as much as it gets him out of it). In short, he’s a big softy who tries to seem meaner than he really is: always a fun character, in my books. It’s more my love for the game, as a whole, that lands Jack so high up in the ranks, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a warm spot in my heart for this wolf-eared sweetheart.
4. Professor Lupin, from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
While there are a couple of werewolves in the Harry Potter universe, by far the most famous is Professor Remus J. Lupin. In the third book of the series, “The Prisoner of Azkaban,” Lupin is introduced as…well, quite frankly, the only GOOD Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Hogwarts has ever seen. He’s supportive of his students, friendly to his peers, and ends up forming a close bond with Harry. This is partially because Remus and Harry’s father, James, were best friends in school. As a result, Lupin feels a certain responsibility towards Harry, trying his best to keep him safe. Ironically, however, it turns out that Professor Lupin is a potential danger to Harry and his friends, himself: it’s revealed that Lupin is a werewolf, and he goes from one of the main protagonists of the story to a major antagonist in the climactic chapters of the novel. Much like with Ethan Chandler and many other classic werewolves, once Lupin transforms, he changes from a good and amiable man to a bloodthirsty monster, who recognizes no friends. While Lupin has a special potion or medicine he can take to keep the wolf at bay, it is only a temporary fix. If he runs out, or just accidentally forgets to take it, you can imagine the consequences. As a result of this terrible tension, Lupin ultimately resigns from his teaching duties at Hogwarts (continuing the running gag, if you want to call it that, of Defense Against the Dark Arts always being the class with the worst luck), but he remains a major character in later books. The same goes for the movies, where Lupin was played (as pictured here) by the great David Thewlis.
3. David Kessler, from An American Werewolf in London.
This is yet another “essential werewolf movie” in the ranks, which made a big impact on lovers of the concept back in the year of our Lord 1981 - the same year as “The Howling.” (I’m sensing a pattern.) However, while “The Howling” took the concept to its frightening extremes, by making the werewolves murderous monsters without a shred of human decency, the titular character of “An American Werewolf in London” is both one of the most tragic werewolves ever put to the screen, while also being one of the most utterly horrifying. The story begins with young David Kessler (played by David Naughton), an American graduate student, on vacation in Yorkshire. He is accompanied by his friend, Jack Goodman. While backpacking across the Moors, the two are attacked by a werewolf. Jack is savagely killed, while David is bitten and forced to become a werewolf himself. As the film goes on, David is haunted by the ghosts of Jack and his own victims, as they try to convince him to commit suicide, since only the death of the werewolf can free not only David from the curse, but also release their souls. While the film has a deliciously dark and wicked sense of humor, it is still, at its heart, a horror story, with a somber ending and a very disturbing edge. The realization of David’s werewolf form, and the transformation he undergoes, is widely regarded as one of the most horrifying in cinematic history. I am heartily inclined to agree.
2. Bigby Wolf, from The Wolf Among Us.
Let’s take a brief tangent to discuss the fairy-tale of “Little Red Riding Hood.” Many scholars and historians have suggested that the classic fable may actually be one of the earliest examples of werewolf fiction. After all, people certainly believed in werewolves at the time, and how many normal wolves can wear human clothes, speak human language, or are large enough to swallow a little girl and her granny alive? Whether this is true or not, it is not uncommon for reimaginings of the story to envision the Big Bad Wolf as a werewolf: I already discussed three such examples with the “Anime Boi Trio” at the start of the countdown. They, of course, are not the only instances: enter Sheriff Bigby Wolf, the main character of the video game “The Wolf Among Us,” based on the “Fables” comic series (which I have not read). The game is essentially a noir-styled murder mystery story, with Bigby as our resident hard-boiled detective of the hour. In typical fashion for such an archetype, he smokes, drinks, and is equal parts grumpy and sarcastically snarky. However, unlike most such examples, he’s also a werewolf: a rarity for film noir. (Unless you count Sam Spade. No way someone that cool is human.) Bigby is able to transform from a human form, to a sort of half-human form, to the “werewolf form” shown here, and finally to a giant feral wolf that’s bigger than an elephant. The story of the game once again plays with the idea of our protagonist battling his inner demons, but with a different twist: Bigby can’t change what he is, nor does he really wish to. HOWEVER, his struggle is more with his villainous past and the darkness still inside him. He’s the Big Bad Wolf, the bogeyman of many legends; that’s a hard thing to deal with when your job is to save lives and try to make amends. Being a Telltale game, the players can choose just how nasty or how nice Bigby really is, but regardless of which direction they take him, he nevertheless seems sincere in his desire to do right. It’s an interesting twist on both the fairy-tale figure and the idea of the werewolf.
1. Larry Talbot, a.k.a. The Wolfman.
Our number one pick is the entire reason WHY I set up this list the way I did. As I said before, this countdown was never about the “sexiest” werewolf, or the scariest werewolf, or anything else like that. It was simply about what character or characters came first to mind when I thought of that word. And, let’s face it…for both myself and a lot of other people, Larry Talbot - the Wolfman - is that character. The 1940 film, entitled “The Wolf Man” with a space in the middle (contemporary spellings go back and forth between that and it all being one word), pretty much established the classical lore of the werewolf that so many of us recognize today. And while it was not the first movie to tackle lycanthropy, nor to depict its protagonist as a tragic figure who was more fallen hero than true villain, it was the first to make an especially potent impact. It is because of this character and this movie that werewolves are so particularly recognized today, and the influence of this one figure cannot be overstated. Lon Chaney Jr. and his performance are an important part of why; several other people have played the Wolfman in remakes and reimaginings of the character and story (such as Benicio del Toro and Jonathan Gries), but Chaney’s performance remains the most iconic, and the one that set the bar for how so many other werewolves would be portrayed. Larry Talbot is a good and fairly normal guy who finds himself transformed into a monster against his will, and while the stories of other famous Universal Monsters got warped and went into crazy territory as the series continued, the Wolfman actually remained fairly consistent throughout his run, helped by the fact that Chaney was the only person to play the character through the entire franchise in its original years. While the films and his makeup/costume do show their age, they’re nevertheless still classics for a reason, and I doubt very many of the other characters on this countdown would even EXIST if he hadn’t set the standard. For that reason above all else, Lawrence “Larry” Talbot takes the cake as My Favorite Werewolf. Case dismissed.
HONORABLE MENTIONS INCLUDE…
Dr. Wilfred Glendon, from Werewolf of London.
Predating the Wolfman, this is one of the earliest werewolf films, and almost as iconic. While it has its merits, however, I think that actor Henry Hull’s performance in the main role is a bit stiff and stagey, which brings the character down a peg.
Cornell, from Castlevania.
Despite being a huge Castlevania fan, I’m weirdly not very familiar with Cornell, by virtue of the simple fact I haven’t looked that much into most of his appearances in the franchise. Ironic, isn’t it?
Free, from Soul Eater.
This anime/manga series is basically what you’d get if you put Tim Burton in charge of…well…an anime/manga series. Free is a recurring figure, and he’s a lot of fun, but I just tend to think of other characters first. This may partially be because it’s been a long time since I rewatched this show…I’ll have to get on that in the future. :P
There are a TON of other werewolves I could name, but after this point they kind of all conglomerate into a lupine glob of interest. Again, sorry if characters you loved didn’t show up. Who are some of YOUR favorite werewolves? Feel free to name your picks below!

Theory time!
It's been confirmed that someone is going to die in Hazbin Hotel. Here are the clues:
- It's a major character. (Not sure if main cast or just someone relevant)
- It's not Angel Dust.
- It's going to be obvious.
Uh, I'm sorry, when is it going to become obvious? Because it's not obvious right now. I've seen people speculating on literally the entire cast by now, from Fat Nuggets to Charlie herself.
My initial theory had been Angel Dust, but not as a permanent death. I thought he would "die" as a demon and come back as an angel.
But since it's been confirmed that it isn't Angel Dust, it could be literally anyone until we get more clues... So I'll just take a wild guess. I have my top three candidates that - in my opinion - are the most likely to die.
[Quick reminder that my theories are always incorrect.]
Since it's supposed to be someone obvious, I'm going with what seems more cliche.
#1 - Carmilla
The fact that she's the one who killed that angel makes her a target for the Exorcists if they ever find out it was her. She's also been portrayed as sympathetic, and it's possible that she's a fallen angel herself. Maybe her death will be what finally makes Sera and other pro-Extermination angels realize that things are going too far when angels are killing each other. Her death would also be sad because she would be mourned by her two daughters and Zestial. Just a compelling character death overall, but not someone the fandom is attached to enough to riot over. lol
#2 - Lucifer
For similar reasons to Carmilla, but even more impactful and tragic, because he's the main character's dad and beloved by the fandom. It could be the final straw that gets Charlie to use her full power. Could also be fitting, as the story started with him and now ended with him.
(I'm so glad my theories are always wrong. I would be crushed if Lucifer died. lol)
#3 - Sera
Self-sacrificing to do the right thing for once and atone for authorizing the Extermination, blah blah blah. Maybe this is just wishful thinking because I don't really care for this character. :P
Bonus guess (main cast only) - Husk
If it must be someone from the main cast, my guess is Husk, but only because everyone else seems even more unlikely to me. Charlie is the main character, Vaggie is too close to the main character (as in, Chaggie is too iconic), Alastor is too popular and interesting to be killed off, Sir Pentious and Niffty are too much on the comic relief side to be compelling character deaths, and Husk would be interesting because of his connection with Angel Dust. But yeah, I'm not actually too sold on this myself. I don't see how the plot would benefit from his death, it'd just be yet another way to mentally torture Angel.

I'm so fucking done right now
I have a friend. We're going to call her "AAAAAAA!!!!"
AAAAAAA!!!! and I have been friends for more than twenty years. LONG before I started converting to Judaism.
She grew up in an area Jewish enough to get the high holy days off. She has as many Jewish friends as I do. She is more knowledgeable about Jewish stuff than anyone else I know who isn't Jewish. To the point that I've sometimes thought about asking her why she doesn't convert.
Sure, she's a staunch atheist. So nu?
I don't think we'd ever had occasion to talk about I/P politics before a couple of years ago. We immediately discovered we had uhhhhh. Very opposing views. We both backed off of what was clearly going to be a charged and messy discussion.
I didn't know enough yet to try anyway. All I knew, mainly, was that (1) Jews are the indigenous people of Israel and (2) both Israel and Palestine have Done Bad Shit!
That's a very, very, very inadequate understanding. But I did feel pretty confident that point #1 contradicted her apparent stance, which was more "Israel is the one that has Done Bad Shit."
We backed off for a couple of years. She would occasionally mention how much she wished I would read Edward Said, so we could talk about him.
She is, to her credit, totally against Hamas's attack. But we conflict on most other issues. And they're so charged for her that we can't really talk about any of them.
It turns out that the reason they're so charged is that her niece got yelled at and called out for "being an antisemite" for supporting BDS in college, and it was traumatizing for her.
In other words, she and her family stopped at "I had really really big feelings of shame and fear about this," and chose not to see "and I tried to find out why this marginalized group was saying that" as an option.
And also, AAAAAAA!!!!'s sister, a local elementary school principal, went through a stressful time recently for similar reasons: Jewish families were accusing her and/or her school of being antisemitic, and one (1) family left.
AAAAAAAA!!!! set the boundary, with me, that we should not talk about the definition of antisemitism, or antisemitism related to the protest movement, after I posted a list of things on Facebook that the ADL is charging the Berkeley Unified School District with.
Including that K-12 students have been saying and/or writing, "Kill the Jews," "Jews are stupid," "Of course it was the Jews," and telling Jewish peers, "I don't like your people."
My friend is angrily convinced that "such accusations are a flood of SEWAGE smeared on protesters, professors, etc. I am not saying there is no antisemitism, though Berkeley is a very weird place for it to crop up in the from-zero-to-a-thousand way it is described. Of course there can be a) isolated incidents that hit fucking hard in these circumstances, and b) deliberate elisions between, again, being against what Israel is doing, and having that portrayed as being antisemitic."
/looks at the camera/
All of this is just context for what I came here to say 😅
I WAS TONIGHT YEARS OLD WHEN I FOUND OUT WHAT EDWARD SAID WROTE, AND WHAT THE ENTIRE FUCK. FUCK THAT DUDE TWICE.
Constantine Zurayk's fiction that the “Arab nation” suffered the Nakba didn’t survive for long. [By 1967,] the meaning of the Nakba had already changed as Palestinian activists and historians began depicting the events of 1948 exclusively as a tragedy for their own people.
...The most influential of those [new books that framed it that way,] particularly for audiences in the West, was Edward W. Said’s The Question of Palestine, published in 1979.
Said, a popular Columbia University English professor [OH HELLO] and a member of the Palestinian National Council, was something of an icon in liberal intellectual circles because of his earlier book, Orientalism. In that work, Said framed the history of colonialism in the Arab and Islamic world within a system of Western racialist thought.
I'm just gonna guess that he didn't go back farther than 50 years. Because before that point, you get 1,300 years or so of Arab and Islamic colonialism, and I don't know how it would make sense to frame that within a system of Western racialist thought.
In The Question of Palestine, the author argued that the game was stacked against the native Palestinians in favor of the white Zionists, because of the same dominant racist ideologies.
THAT'S HIM, OFFICER. THAT'S THE GUY.
That's what my friend has been trying to get me to read for three years? An ahistoric mess that pretends Jews were actually white supremacists at the time that white supremacy was actively trying to wipe us out?
I'M SO TIRED, YOU GUYS.
Said denounced “the entrenched cultural attitude toward Palestinians deriving from age-old Western prejudices about Islam, the Arabs, and the Orient. This attitude, from which in its turn Zionism drew for its view of the Palestinians, dehumanized us, reduced us to the barely tolerated status of a nuisance.”
Yeah, THAT'S what happened.
“Certainly, so far as the West is concerned,” Said continues, “Palestine has been a place where a relatively advanced (because European) incoming population of Jews has performed miracles of construction and civilizing and has fought brilliantly successful technical wars against what was always portrayed as a dumb, essentially repellent population of uncivilized Arab natives.”
This was a harsh and distorted view of the Zionist movement.
I said I was so fucking done, and what I MEANT was that I was so fucking angry, and NOW I'M TEXTING HER SUPPORTIVELY ABOUT OTHER STUFF WHILE I WRITE THIS.
I just.
Please drag Edward Said for me or otherwise Go Off. Thank you
#jumblr#i just never have an opportunity to say 'so nu' and it's been in my head for most of my life#she's supposed to care about history and accuracy but family shit overrides all that#she said if something antisemitic happens to me or my kid i SHOULD tell her and i was like WHY#and you know what? never got a response#wall of words

Hi Nara! To celebrate your new fic, I humbly submit Harry/Nicodemus to you for the ship bingo. (And Simms/Eileen if you feel like doing two!)
Thank you <3
Aaah, it takes a special kindness to ask me about a ship that you don't interact with. Thank you, friend <3
Harry/Nicodemus, my darlings
my friends are tired of me screaming about this. Yes, very tired, probably. I'm sorry. I don't intend to stop tho ^^"
I'm going to hit them with a crowbar. Gently. I mean neither will break. So I'm going to gently bonk them until they talk to each other properly and kiss lol
train wreck but I can't look away. They have a counter of how many attempts they made on each other's lives.
I want to write fics for this and luckily I doooo write fics for this <3
THAT one scene. you know the one. In the sense that I'm always making these posts where I go "You know THAT one scene where they do THAT thing that makes me CRAZY"
INTERESTING COMPELLING COMPLEX SCREECHING
this has no right to be a rare pair. I mean. I get it. On the other hand if Harry/Marcone became so popular, Harry/Nic wouldn't be a stretch, you know? :P
I need a 200k slow burn NOW. No energy to write it tho lol
person a deserves better than person b. Harry does deserve someone better than Nicodemus. But when I write them Nic always treats him right
they are divorced, possibly not for the first time. I'm re-listening to Skin Game and they bicker like a divorced couple. "Who needs no introduction." Right, cause you guys know each other better than you have any reason to, kiss already
could cut the tension with a KNIFE. Seriously. We had an actual knife involved at one point. Pinning up against walls. Choking. Hair pulling. It's great.
Overall, I just love their dynamic and the potential in this ship <3
Simms/Eileen
pleasantly surprised by being canon. Come on, Luke practically confirmed this will become canon. That is so cool!
I'm a casual shipper. I like them. Wrote a fic. Don't think I wrote it for the right reasons tho, and prob wouldn't write another. But I would 100% read more fic and like them overall.
THAT one scene. you know the one. When Fetch introduces them and Simms just looooks at Eileen for a little too long. Hope we'll get more iconic scenes with them in the next book.
unironically relationship goals. I think they would be good for each other, you know?
Thanks so much for playing! xx

The CBS fall 2024 season takes one of its most popular franchises back in time with NCIS: Origins. The NCIS prequel is set in 1991 and centers on a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell) earlier in his career as a special agent at the fledging (NIS) Naval Investigation Service’s Camp Pendleton, which eventually becomes the iconic NCIS division we know today.
Gibbs joins a ragtag team led by Mike Franks, with Kyle Schmid stepping into the role originated in the flagship series by Muse Watson. The weight of taking on this legend is not lost on Schmid. It’s arguably the biggest gig to date for the Canadian who got his start on Disney Channel in the early ’00s and whose recent resume includes starring on the History military series Six and recurring on Syfy’s Being Human and ABC’s Big Sky.
Despite being fatally stabbed in Season 8 of NCIS, Mike Franks would appear from time to time to guide mentee Gibbs (Mark Harmon) as an almost guardian angel. Here, Schmid, who is expecting his first child with his wife Caity Lotz, gives us an early tease of what’s to expect from the flashback spinoff.
What does it mean for you to be part of the legacy of this NCIS franchise? What kind of resource has Mark Harmon been for this new cast?
Kyle Schmid: I think it’s a great opportunity to be part of something grandfathered into the industry as a standard for procedural television. It has been running for what’s going to be seasons. Mark Harmon did it and put his stamp on it and kind of led the way for everybody. It has been a really neat experience because he has lent his expertise and advice and help to all of us through emails and calls. Just time spent piquing his brain has been really important.
At a stage of your life where you’ve gotten married, having a kid and you get to shoot at Paramount in Los Angeles. I feel like I’ve won the lottery. I can’t wait to continue to work with the cast that was put together. I’m a legitimate fan of everybody they put together for this show. Incredible wife, job, house, and a baby on the way. My life has just become very complete, so I’m very lucky.
Have you had much communication with Muse?
He and I have become friends. We talk every couple of weeks and catch up on life. Having his blessing to play a younger version of a character he developed has been very cool.
How would you describe where we’ll be introduced to Mike at this point in his life and career?
He had been part of NCIS for a while. In 2001, when you meet him he is a little older, a little more jaded. He has seen a lot that I think he wished he could have had more control over. So, we’re seeing him at a point in his life where he has paved his own way and earned the respect of the agency. Now he has the opportunity to build a team that he sees as being some of the most promising agents in NCIS. We get to meet those people and see those people grow. He is still at a point where he gets to mentor Gibbs. I think we’ll get to see why Gibbs was who the world fell in love with in the original NCIS and how he came to be that way. And Mike Franks is a big part of that.
With the show taking us back to the 1990s, what kind of vibe do you see us getting? I’m looking forward to feeling that nostalgia.
The music is what excites me. I was born in the early 1980s, so I like Pearl Jam and Nirvana. Those are still on my daily playlist. I failed to mature with music and am stuck in the 1990s. We have incredible music. I think it’s fun to play with the dynamics of the male-female relationship in the workplace. We get to live in a world where things are a little backward compared to today. I think it’s going to be really interesting how David [J. North] and Gina [Lucita Monreal], who are our showrunners and are phenomenal, decide to tackle that.
We get to see how Mike Franks gets to play a 40-year-old in an industry in 1991 that we in present-day America have forgotten, and have tried to change. I think that will be really interesting for the show. I did a show with Tom Fontana a few years ago. He is one of the best writers I’ve ever worked with. He said to me that there are no black-and-white characters. There are only gray characters. The people who are the bad guys don’t know they’re bad guys. They are just doing the best they know. I think 1991 in Los Angeles is a very poignant point in history with a lot that happened. We’re going to be able to explore all of that with phenomenal directing. I think with a younger and edgier cast, it will make for an edgier show in the process. This is super exciting because we have phenomenal actors who really get to dig into this stuff that I’m hoping will blow teh doors wide open.
You’re going into filming this show at a time when you’re becoming a dad. Just moved into a new house with Caity still working as well. How are you all preparing for all that?
It’s a good question. Luckily, I have the best wife in the world. Caity’s mom is going to come to town. My dad’s coming to town. I love working. Working is something that gives me energy. I get to go to work, which I love, and then come home to a family I love. I’m absolutely burning the candle at both ends with this.

Do u have any MK rarepairs?
hello llewayinghorses. yeah i have ummmm a lot lmao. for the purposes of this i'll be stretching the definition of rare pair a Little because while sure some of these have like over a hundred fics it still feels p small To Me. anywayd
biliang is one of them, as well as kuaitomas. both of these are mk1 btw. sorry beloved followers i am a scorpsmoke lover blame Do you feel it travel in and out your heart? on ao3 (i was shipping them way before i read that fic it's just my favourite). and a biliang lover but i've already mentioned that one before on here.
haven't been Incredibly into those lately though cuz the liu kang hyperfixation hit like a train and now all i can do is set him up with other people he can fuck nasty (or not fuck at all i do love an ace liu kang. more like liu king. sorry.) but they are still on the backburner.
for liu pairings aka my only pairings ever........... holdon let me just bust out the chart
ignore the fact that the colour doesn't mean anything Anyways liutana and liulao aren't rare, shangliu is actually surprisingly popular considering it has so few fics (like 50 total i think split between the liu vs fire god liu tags?), liuhan probably is considered rare but idk maybe it's just because i'm in my part of the fandom but i see it p often so probably not very rare. kuailiu and liutomas are both rarer than that. railiu is p rare, i don't really see it often (but i'd love to because it's actually such a good pairing it's so cool oh my god) uhhhh liugeras is pretty rare considering how much sense it makes but i get it w/e yk. uhhhh kenliu and liucage are both p rare. especially cuz i ship liucage the hardest in the 1995 mortal kombat movie (so sad that i can't write for that movie. cries) which already doesn't get much fandom activity. oh baraka and liu is like super rare lmao but they're so cool !! i think there's lots of potential there idk maybe i'm just a freak. i do mostly ship them in mk11 though (mostly just cuz i don't want to deal with contagion lmao). sindel and liu are rare i suppose (also i forgot to mark liu and jerrod but i do ship them as well they're a throuple) as are liu and syzoth but i don't really care for them Much they're just fun sometimes but they aren't on the brainrot list. quan chi and liu are also rare but yk same principle as syliu i don't care all that much. i just like them both and i think they could have Something. evil. also liu and mileena is mk11 specific and it's also complicated but the sad thing is there's no fic for them and i'm too scared to write it (that's a lie i'm just not creative enough)
uhhhhh i also ship kenleena which according to twitter is actually popular but i've not seen it a damn time which SUCKS !!!! guys please i love taleena but why should i care for Them in mk1 when i could be shipping mileena and the guy whose eyes she gouged out. i think that slays. taleena is also a slay ofc but in mk1........ i need something with a little more Spice like they had in mkx. give me toxic yuri or give me death. they need to be treacherous and then have a kid or i'm out.
let me pull out the mk11 chart too fuck it
again shangliu is p popular shockingly however mk11 shangliu is a lot less popular. sonya/liu is actually so rare that i made the ao3 tag and i'm one of like. four shippers lmao. but i mostly ship them in conjunction with liucage in mk11 and only really ship them on their own in mk21. liu/jax is similar in the sense that i like them more in the 2021 movie lmao. and again i'm the only one in the tag. mk11 liuhan is less common than mk1 which is sad because they're iconic. again baraka and liu are always rare, railiu is p rare (though it does have some absolute masterpieces in the ao3 tag. ty melochromatic can we please be friends you're so cool). fujin/liu is also uncommon but i love them so sosososis99ssjowehhrishwkshrkebf much (i just like both of the characters and decided to slam them together for my amusement) blahblah again with mileena and geras and liulao and liutana are both popular.
SIGH. in addition to all of these i have some bonuses like sindel/sheeva and jadetana which might not be Rare but it is lovely and frossie which definitely Is rare (heartbreakingly) and probably more that i don't want to list. GASP FOR AIR.
#mk#allfatherly guidance#llewelyn. listen to me close when i say I'm Not Tagging Anything But MK. i cant fit all that in here#answered prayers

Can you infodump to me about whatever youre currently obsessed with
can i? dude you're going to have to stop me with force i REALLY want to infodump I just never have the excuse to do it. I'll be nice enough to put it under a read more though because this is very long.
let me tell you about this little streaming service called dropout.tv because it has taken over my life. it was started by the people at collegehumor (idk if you know it, they made sketch comedy and that sort of videos for over a decade) when they got tired of having to conform to advertisers on sites like youtube or facebook. and also not long after dropout launched collegehumor's parent company tried to sell the brand since it wasn't profitable enough for them leading to Sam Reich, who's worked at collegehumor pretty much since the beginning, acquiring the rights. however he did have to lay off pretty much everyone except a skeleton crew plus Brennan Lee Mulligan who created the most popular series on the platform. but everyone else keeps working at dropout on a freelance basis so it's all good.
anyway with the launch of dropout they moved away from scripted comedy to really a wide variety of unscripted content. the series that got me into dropout is game changer, a game show where the contestants don't know what game it is they're going to play since the game changes (almost) every time. it is SO fun?? there's been so many insane concepts including lie detector that's secretly controlled by the contestants' significant others, selling useless shit like a keyboard that only has the letter p or a rubik's cube that's all green, murder mystery that's somehow both fictional and real at the same time (it's. really hard to explain this one it was really just to troll one specific contestant, a lot of episodes are made with specific people in mind since these people have worked together for a very long time), escape room but it's just locking these three people in a room and also there's some insane lore around it that people still make conspiracy theories about, an actual time loop and of course the multiple survivor parodies and the one batchelor parody (it's very bisexual). i could honestly rant about game changer forever. it really has that appeal of being able to get to know the contestants (a majority of whom are former collegehumor employees who appear in many episodes across all dropout shows) and that they're all professional comedians who know each other and the host very well. it has fun cozy vibes except when it actively breaks my mind (looking at you deja vu).
there are three shows that were spun off from game changer: make some noise, which is prompt based improv (sidenote, my icon and url are both referencing this show, specifically the original trio this series started with back when it was in game changer. the noise boys refer to Josh, Zac and Brennan who after doing four episodes of this game within game changer are also the contestants in every make some noise season premiere and finale), dirty laundry which is kind of based never have i ever as a game show and also Grant O'Brien is there as a bartender (Grant O'Brien is the tall bisexual theatre nerd i post quite a lot about), and play it by ear in which they improvise entire musicals, which i still haven't watched and I'm fully aware of how out of character that is for me. however i do really love the original game changer episode play it by ear is based on.
so.... here's the thing. i kind of lied. i said game changer is the first dropout show i got into but um, actually, i was into a dropout show before i really knew what dropout is. Um, actually is a game show where the host (originally Mike Trapp, now Ify Nwadiwe) says incorrect statements mostly about nerdy media which the contestants have to correct, but they have to start their corrections with the phrase "um, actually" or they don't get the point. they made two musical theatre themed episodes that i found back in 2022? i think? that were on youtube and then i got into Howard the duck which got me kind of into marvel comics which are referenced in a lot of episodes leading me to watching quite a lot of the episodes that were up on youtube (i think out of all dropout shows this one might have the most free on youtube content) and then i kind of forgot about it until this year's april when i started properly getting into dropout.
however the most popular and longest dropout show is dimension 20, which is a dungeons & dragons actual play. almost every season is a new setting and there's been a lot of different players though there is a main cast known as the intrepid heroes (Zac Oyama, Lou Wilson, Ally Beardsley, Siobhan Thompson, Emily Axford and Brian Murphy + Brennan Lee Mulligan as the dm). the first season that then got two continuations is fantasy high which is set in a more modern dnd setting but with the same fantasy races as the original game but there's been a lot of seasons that completely break away from all traditional dnd elements (some of them aren't actually dnd at all but different game systems) like the one I'm watching right now is a murder mystery with anthropomorphic animals.
there's sooo many more dropout shows i could talk about but this rant is already getting way too long. i love so many things about dropout. they make so much original, fresh content that no one else is making. there's so much diversity in such a natural way (to me especially seeing Ally Beardsley's transition is very special) and it's generally extremely progressive and ethical. idk what else to say, watching dropout makes me very happy, I'm very hyeprfixated on it, it's my main comfort thing right now and i can't recommend it enough (there's a bunch of stuff on youtube for free already but also imo it's absolutely worth 6 dollars a month)
I'm sorry for how long that rant turned out unfortunately i am very unnormal
