Tony Stark is gay + dramatic and also Horrendously Touchstarved with a sprinkling of Crippling self esteem so people being even mildly nice to him invokes about 7 different intense emotions, none of which he knows how to handle. He accidentally fell a little bit in love with Rhodey for the first few weeks of college because the guy smiled at him and called him his friend. A lady held the door open for him three months ago and sometimes he still thinks about her and wonders whether she’d just hold the door for any old person or whether Tony was special. When Natasha hugged him for the first time he cried and then immediately started hyperventilating because he was sure she was going to kill him or that someone was dead or maybe it was a hate-hug, because he just made that concept up three seconds ago but now he is absolutely sure it exists and natasha is currently giving him one, oh no-

His lips taste bitter. 

Like regret, and biting into an unpeeled orange. There is no dampness to guide the way, nor the intimate twirl of DNA; Bucky's lips are dry and uncared for.

Tony pulls back, disappointed. 

He wanted sour. Wanted the kiss to hurt, to spark, to inspire some rush of saliva and emotion sharp enough to jerk and rattle. Knew too well not to expect sweet or savoury. 

"You don't want this?"

Bucky's cheeks are shallow and ashamed. 

"I do, just."

"Not with me."

"No, no. I do. Please, Tones."

"Don't lie when I still have the vile flavour of you hating yourself in my mouth."

Tony turns away, loses the minimal warmth he'd been awarded through a singular strong palm on his hip. 

"It's not you."

"Oh cut the bullshit! S'not you, it's me, and other placations by James Barnes, ghost written by all my exes."

The clothes on Tony's back are yanked off by his own burdened hands, nothing anticipatory or sensual about it. 

"You know it isn't that simple."

"I'm over it James, I've forgiven and moved on, why can't you? It wasn't even your fault."

He leaves his shirt and jeans in a crumpled pile on the bedroom floor, left in the day's boxers and black undershirt. Cracks of filtered moonlight are the only source for sight since Bucky isn't using his own flesh and hands to experience the bared body, so Tony doesn't feel self-conscious about his near-nudity opposite the clothed man. 

"But I did it. All of it. Your parents, my own friend. It's not just them either, I have decades of this on my chest and there's no possible way to atone for it all. How could I look you or any of the people I've hurt in the eyes and welcome any kind of forgiveness, let alone what you want to give me."

Bucky isn't eager to touch him, but Tony is. Workman's hands cup guilty cheeks, cradle and revere them and chase avoidant eyes.

"You deserve kindness. You deserve happiness. You deserve this. It isn't something I want to give, it's something I want to share. You're only hurting both of us by wearing your pity party hat."

It wouldn't be obvious looking at him, even examining him from as close as Tony is, but he can feel the millisecond long tug of Bucky's zygomaticus major lifting the corner of his mouth up. 

"Maybe someday. Maybe with you."

It doesn't sound hopeful, but it's as close to a happy ending as Bucky's ever been willing to admit, leaving a resigned patience to settle Tony's stomach. 

"Okay. Bedtime then."

Tony busies himself with the blankets as Bucky changes, a pair of flannel pajamas from Tony's own drawer and no shirt. The bed is cool and welcoming, sapping the heat of disappointment from Tony's skin and leaving a weary skeleton. 

He curls on his right side, away from Bucky's end of the bed, and the other man slips in moments later. 

Even though he can't see him he knows Bucky is laid on his side as well, facing Tony. Bucky doesn't touch him, but not for lack of yearning. He can't decipher if the man is respecting Tony's space or denying himself; he doesn't like either.

"Hold me?" Tony whispers to the stillness. 

The answer comes by way of a metal hand grazing his waist, crawling along the hem of his shirt before caressing the stomach beneath it and lighting a path up the skin. The hand reaches Tony's sternum before pulling him back into a strong chest, the cradled man heating at the display of strength. 

Shifting around until they're comfortably fitted together Tony then slips his own hand up the shirt, teasing each ripple in the plates of Bucky's arm on the journey before entangling their fingers together, laced like a wedding gown.

He allows his eyes to shut, warmed and comforted, tongue licking at the lingering resentment on his lips.

This is enough.

This has to be enough.

my favourite stony characterization is a Eurydice and Orpheus metaphor from Tony's perspective:

"Steve, There's this Greek myth about a husband and wife, Orpheus and Eurydice, I don't know if you've heard of it. Well to make a long story short Eurydice dies and Orpheus can bring his wife back to life if he's able to walk out of the underworld with her without ever looking back to see if she's actually following him. There's a bunch of versions of the story, but no matter the reason he always looks back, and he always loses her.  The way I understood it is he turns because he loves her. He's nervous she isn't there, he's scared she's fallen, he's excited to share the sight of the sun with her. He fails because he loves her too much to be neutral about her existence. It doesn't matter if it would've been better never to look, because caring for her goes deeper than any logic.  I think, if you were Orpheus, you wouldn't look back at me. We'd make it out, alive and safe and together, because you accomplished the mission perfectly. It's a good thing, the best thing, the happy ending. And foolishly, I was wishing you'd glance back at me the whole way."

Steve's supposed strength of logic and strong-will is what is hurting Tony, and Tony knows his flaw is wanting to be loved beyond reason and practicality :/

Yes, I think we're all excited about the new Spider-Man movie. There's more excitement for this movie than for Doomsday Oops! The new suit is great, the colors vibrant, that blue glows depending on the light around it. And it's a huge yes to Tom's beautiful curls. I hope they let Peter have them. And the pic of tom taking a cold bath 🫦 bro likes to break he internet

you can't not make a good Spider-Man movie because he's just the most perfect character everrrrr. Doomsday is in fact a scary mess because Kevin Fiege doesn't know what he's doing anymore and he shouldn't be trusted with all these incredible characters 😭 I'll still eat it up when the time comes tho

MCU Spider-Man suit ratings:

Homemade suit: 5.5/10

UNDEROOS! He looks so dorky 😭 It's tolerable without that mask but the goggles are just BAHAHA. So adorable and silly I can't take it seriously, it definitely served its purpose though and it makes Peter look like such a baby my heartaches 😭 especially during the building collapse and vulture final fight scene. Love the bulky webshooters and fingerless gloves, makes me think of Ben Reilly more than Peter Parker tho

Stark suit: 8/10

It's sleek and beautiful, I adore Karen, the moving eyes are ADORABLE. That's web fluid on his belt right? I like that. I agree the spider bot is cute but I'm just not as into that tiny chest symbol. The big spider symbol on the back is fitting for the movie, makes Peter seem young and marketable instead of cool, but in general as a Spider suit design I prefer the edgier version with long legs. I don't like how smooth it is and how the spiderwebs are just lightly printed on. I enjoy the other tech like the interesting web configurations and I adore his spider-gliders cuz it reminds me of the old comics, but at the same time it feels more like a TONY suit than Spider-Man. He went a bit overboard with everything, let that loser boy freeze like a wet dog !!!

Stealth suit/Night Monkey: 2/10

Yeah not a fan. Looked weird and bulky. Don't like the fabric ribbing in the mask. Black and tactical is so UN-Spidey and felt really wrong the entire time, Spidey is lithe and acrobatic not brutish or a symbol of force and obedience that heavy-duty style uniform invokes. Spider-Man inspires hope and safety, that's why he's bright and easy to spot! Didn't represent him, ugly, useless, tomatoes 🍅🍅🍅 just shows the discrepancies between who Fury/the world wanted him to be vs. who he actually is

Upgraded suit 9/10

SEXY SEXY SEXY. This is the suit Peter makes HIMSELF with Tony's tech, which means a lot to me. Not only do we get to see Peter's own brilliance, he makes it practical and adheres to his actual needs. The silver in the Spider legs is just UGH it does things to me 😖 I think the dark blue/black is also really beautiful and shows Peter's transition from a bumbling kid with too much responsibility to a man who understands his purpose. His red fingers poking out are cute too

Inside-out suit: 7.5/10

This is technically the last suit just flipped inside out, but it's a totally different vibe! Metallic on black is reallyyyy pretty, and seeing all the wiring and technology put into these suits was incredibly fascinating! I think it's a very fun addition and cute moment to have, albeit wouldn't be good long-term of course. I also really enjoyed Ned and MJ being taped to the chest for the scene, absolutely adorable and the best trio ever I miss them so bad 😔. Also they removed the scene of the Mysterio supporter throwing green paint on him from the original cut so you simply don't have context for him having it flipped inside out which??? Why. But it's in the extended cut! Fun fact the guy Spider-Man webs in that scene who's swinging around upside down is played by Tom's little brother 😊

The Iron Spider suit: 7/10

I feel conflicted about this suit, because the arms are SICK AS HELL, and I like the colour scheme. The nanotech is so OP, and I love it in the Avengers movies. The way Peter passes out and nearly falls to his death but then this wraps around him like a safety blanket is awesome, and the way the arms move fighting Thanos is really interesting and spidery !!! LOVE that. But it's definitely a bit too much to look at, I don't like the armor plates or shininess, looks too much like battle armor and not like the guy who carries old lady's groceries—it doesn't feel like Spider-Man at all. Great for Avengers, not for Spider-Man movies

Integrated suit: 8.5/10

This is when he's wearing the upgraded suit he made in FFH and Doc Ock gives him the nanotech back so the nanotech combines with his regular suit! I really enjoy the big golden spider on the chest, very gorgeous to me, and I think it holds a special place in my heart because the Happy apartment scene/Green Goblin fight up to the Statue of Liberty scene is some of the most exciting, enthralling, important, heart wrenching cinema in history, especially for Peter Parker. So I might be biased and boosted the rating just cuz of the movie 😅 I also have the integrated suit Lego minifigure and it's my fave Spidey minifigure, she's a beaut in 😫. The Navy, red, and gold are a really beautiful backdrop to all of it, I like the fabric textures are still showing but we also see the scratched up nanotech. Wasn't really used to it's full potential but it served its purpose beautifully and retired just as well ❤️‍🩹

Brand New Day suit: 9.5/10

The spider really makes it SO good. Maybe he was inspired by Tobey and Andrew's Peters, both in style and spirit! The blue and red is in the same style as the comic books, as opposed to the extra bands/lining his other red and blue suits had, which is absolutely heart-pumping 💗. I ADORE the bright and shiny blue, especially in this era of Superman with hope and humanity being at the forefront of Supers. The webbing is easier to see/textured which is THE BEST part of Spidey's suits imo. He pops out, it's all homemade and SEWN by him, he has the clunky cheap webshooters, AHHH. It's my fave thing about Spider-Man, the balance between intelligence and BROKE. (I am a Parker Industries hater cuz I resent him being wealthy and stable 😞 and I refuse to read the superior Spider-Man arc 🫠). It's a gorgeous suit for a gorgeous era 😽💕 YIPPIE !
