algal bloom (lawzo hanahaki fic with a twist) (part 2)
Part 1 here, Part 2, Part 3,
Worst of all,  Zoro continually coughed up leaflets (Robin informed him) that maintained their scent for only a short while (long enough for Nami to wrinkle her nose, and even Luffy), but the greenery and smell didnât linger. Robin sniffed it out before everyone else though, and then Brook. âYohohoho, you smell like my crewmates after six days unburied.â Brook couldnât bear to dispose of them. He should have. Given them a proper sea burial, wrapped in their favourite blanket or flag, cradling their flute, guitar or mandolin. But he'd been sick too, and he went Tibetan and let the seagulls take what they wanted, which was quite a lot. Brook had passed on, so he didnât need to partake in the seabird fest, but it wasnât pleasant, and so he guessed he hadn't been either, and neither was Zoro lately. The young man rarely took a bath, but the stench was as if heâd gone for a swim in a mass grave.
Note: The corpse flower only lasts a day and is massive, so we're gonna have to go with the leaves for Zoro in this one!
Also, I know that Brook made coffins for his crewmates, but that was after his soul found his body and revived him (according to the wiki, a year after).
đŻâïžđŻ
I said I'd do part 2 of a hanahaki with a twist for Law and Zoro if they held the lead in the LawZo vs LawSan poll for more than 2 hours, and it seems that they held it for about 11 hours? Although by the very slimmest of margins, and I'm not sure of the back and forth.
Anyway
The poll link is here and great propaganda is here.
Another instalment if they hold it for four hours? Although I might not have time to post until later. Poll ends in about 16 hours. LawZo is 1% ahead at the moment!
Any reblogs might help the guys! đđŒ But I'm not really sure of voter motivation.
Time at August 10, 11:22 am (UTC +9). They've lost some ground đ

One Piece Crack Ship War - Round 1 Side C
'Pepsi shipping' art by @orange-artist
Propaganda under the cut.
Foxy Grandpa: After submitting my previous ship, I thought of the ship name, thought, "Oh that's cursed", and therefore had to inflict the curse unto others. God please let this get eliminated round 1. The world is a cruel and unfeeling place if it allows this to exist as a thought in human minds for longer than the bare minimum amount of time.
Pepsi shipping: Daddy issues + fun hair colors + she'd sing and he'd play guitar + Sanji would cry.

Top 23 of 2023
Have you been aching to get your hot little hands on 52 weeks of data around original posts, likes, reblogs, and searches, all weighted and ranked and tied up into categories with a nice little bow on top? Well, todayâs your day! It should come as no surprise that Artists on Tumblr reign supreme: from stunning traditional art, jaw-dropping digital art, fanart, sculptures, textile artâyou name it, basicallyâthis yearâs list shows that Tumblr truly is the home for art and artists. Thank you, Artists on Tumblr, for enriching our dashboards day after day.Â
Rounding out the top three, we have two iconic shows: Good Omens is live-action, and The Owl House is animated, but both have a heck of a love story at their core. The second season of Good Omens blessed us with not one but two ineffably exquisite ships, while the final season of The Owl House broke and then healed fansâ hearts in equal measure. Thanks, @danaterrace! Actually, come to think of it, the Good Omens finale kinda did the same in reverse. Thanks to you, too, @neil-gaiman! We canât wait for season 3.Â
Speaking of heartbreak and healing, Our Flag Means Deathâs second season offered both in droves. The entire cast gave stellar performances, and fans couldnât have been happier to see the kinds of representation the show displayed. Last yearâs #1 topic, Stranger Things, may have dropped a bit, but trust us, you wouldnât know it from the amount of meta, fanart, and fics in the tag. And did you hear about the live-action adaptations of both The Last of Us and One Piece? They were a preeeetty big deal this year, too. Check âem out if you havenât yet (lol, of course you have). And weâd be remiss not to mention the hugely dedicated fans, fanartists, and fic writers devoting their time to all things Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Yâall deserve a little pizza, as a treat.
2023 was also a year for blockbuster movies, which of course hasnât escaped anybodyâs notice here on Tumblr. Barbie smashed box offices worldwide and left us reeling with every re-watch. How can one describe Greta Gerwigâs pink-filled opus? It certainly is one of the movies of all time. Meanwhile, with its incredible animation and soundtrack, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse introduced us to a whole new multiverse of Spider-People, opening the portal to a veritable flood of incredible OCs. And then, of course, we got a fresh perspective on an old classic when cinephiles introduced Martin Scorsceseâs cinematic masterpiece, Goncharov (1973), to a new generation of film aficionados who resoundingly agree that it is, in fact, the greatest mafia movie ever made. Weâre so glad this underrated film finally got the acclaim it has long deserved.
In the realms of gaming and tech, the long-anticipated Baldurâs Gate 3 has basically become everyoneâs new favorite D&D/dating sim combination. Of course, the PokĂ©mon franchise, games, shows, and Hatsune Miku collabs remain perennial favorites. Elon Muskâs purchase of Twitter, sorry, we mean of course X, made waves across the internet. Similarly, the Reddit blackout drove Redditors to new venues, and Tumblr users welcomed the folks from r/196 with open armsâweâre huge fans of your memes, yâall, and you fit right in. Welcome, weâre glad you enjoy the chaos. Hereâs a fun fact: if we included post metadata in Year in Review rankings, #polls, introduced in January of 2023, would have been the #5 topic on Tumblr this year. Phenomenal.Â
And, oh right. Taylor Swift had kind of a big year, what with the albums, the epic global tour, and the movie and stuff. Fantastic work, @taylorswift, the Swifties on Tumblr thank you for everything.
This is Tumblrâs Year in Review.

Rescued
Ratchet x human reader
Word count: 1.4k
Warnings: pitfighting, injuries and swearing.
Ratchet masterlist
Start of the Ratchet fic series piece from my poll. I've got some more request I'll have. Look thought but enjoy the first part of Rescued.
________________
Ratchet was no stranger to the black market, it had been where he had gotten a lot of his medical supplies before the war, and even now he still had dealers he went to for better prices, the Dead End had been in desperate need back then. Now it was the fact he was hunting for very specific equipment he was hoping that one of the dealers had. One of his patients had gotten a backstreet modification done and now he was dealing with trying to undo it.Â
He entered the seedy marketplace with cautious optics. Black markets were rarely safe, even for one as grizzled as himself, but sometimes they provided resources not found through official medcentres. Swindle was impossible to miss. The shifty salesbot sidled up with a grin. "Well well, if it isn't the good doctor. Haven't seen you in a while. What can I do for you today?"Â
Ratchet cut right to the chase. "I need a class V field nanoscope, with magnetic containment and full genomic sequencing interface. Also a case of tri-hexal coolant and 50 units of med-grade energon. Shipped to my clinic" he states while processing his payment to the bot.Â
Swindle's visor glinted as he perused inventory. "I've also got some...shall we say, off-protocol hardware. Stuff no self-respecting medic would keep on their official ledger."Â
The Chief Medical Officer's optics narrowed. What exactly was Swindle suggesting? While he wouldn't put anything past the seedy dealer, Ratchet had no interest in anything illegal or unethical. Still, sometimes one had to play the game to get what they needed. "Show me what you've got."
Their transaction goes as normal, his stockpile set and ready for transport. But the sound of small cries in the market. It has Ratchet turning to try and locate the sound. More cries echo as shouting of bids echo out from a corner. Ratchet's audio receptors zeroed in on the distressed cries, and what he heard made his fuel run cold. Pushing past other mechs, he hurried toward the commotion and spotted the disturbing scene unfolding - a small human had been tossed from the fight ring like so much garbage, directly into harm's way.Â
âuseless little frag, I spent good shanix on you and your worthlessâ the bot growls out.Â
Without hesitation, Ratchet leapt forward and caught the bot before he could stomp the limp form of the small organic. He whirled on the perpetrator with a snarl. "What in the Pits do you think you're doing?!"Â
Shoving the mech back, Ratchet knelt and gently scooped the injured human into his servos cradling them to his chest, his optics flared with barely contained rage. The other bot vents out but ignores Ratchet. âKeep the little scraplet it's worthless.â He huffs as he downs another cube of engex. âSwindle I'd get out of here for a whileâ Ratchet warns, it doesn't take much for the con to get the hint. âPleasure doing business As always Ratchetâ he states.Â
Ratchet strode from the Alley, carefully shielding the human as he contacted an Enforcer unit. The human curls in on themself more making themself as small as possible in Ratchet's servos. They don't move much while Ratchet makes his way back to his clinic. âShhh it's Alright, settle down ill get you taken care ofâ he tries to settle them as he begins unlocking the door to the clinic. His optics trace over them. Â
Heavy sobs leave their small frame. Ratchet watched helplessly as the terrified human struggled in vain to escape his servos, Their fear and anguish tore at his spark. All he wanted was to help, He placed them gently on the medberth and remained crouched down, making himself as unintimidating as possible. On his shoulder, Ratchet pointed to the bright Cross emblazoned across his plating - the symbol of medical care and protection. But the human showed no sign of understanding.
âPlease settle, I am a doctor, I'm going to check your injuriesâ he tries to explain while using his servos. But with the language barrier he had no way to convey that.Â
Realising his words most likely sounded like static crackles, Ratchet instead used his Em field pulses to try to calm them but it just made them shrink away in fear. Ratchet muttered and grumbled to himself as he dug through crates of old data chips and software modules. "Fragging Primus, where did I leave that translation suite?" he growled. "Probably tossed it with the last lot of broken junk I cleared out of here."
He upended another crate, sending chips scattering across the floor. His field pulsed with irritation. "Should have all the common dialects downloaded - but does anyone think to update them? Of course not!"
Sifting through the pile, Ratchet let loose a string of curses. "Pit-spawned, rust-eating, glitch-headed pile of... aha!" He held up an ancient-looking chip in triumph. "About fragging time, you piece of scrap."Â
Popping it into his chip port, Ratchet ran initialization and compatibility protocols. After a minute, a handful of human languages lit up in his HUD along with helpful translation matrices. He vented in relief.Â
"Alright little one, let me try thisâŠâ
â Can you understand me now? I'm not going to hurt you, I promise." His voice was gentle once more. They continue staring at him half scared. Ratchet slowly filtered through the different Earth languages via his new translation software, trying each one to see if any would trigger recognition in the fearful human.Â
//Can you understand me now?// Ratchet repeated gently. //I found an old program that allows me to talk to humans. I mean you no harm. I only wish to help treat your injuries.//
He kept his motions slow and unthreatening, hands open and palms up. //This place is a clinic. I am a doctor - my designation is Ratchet. Please, let me scan you and apply medical dressings. You are safe here, I promise. I will not let any harm come to you while under my care.//
Optics dimmed with compassion, Ratchet waited patiently for a response. He hoped reassuring words and this breakthrough in communication would help begin to win the traumatised human's tentative trust.
They move forward slightly, eyes trained on Ratchet. "How...?" They choke out almost shocked, they begin shaking lightly as they sit there panicking. Ratchet responded with patience and care to the little human's distress. "It's alright, try to relax. I know this must be frightening, but you're safe now."Â
"I have translation software that allows me to understand many Earth languages. It took some digging, but I finally found an old data chip with yours among its databases. I'm Chief Medical Officer - communicating with patients is essential to my function, no matter their origin."
Keeping his voice low and modulated, Ratchet continued, "I need to assess your injuries, little one. May I scan you? It will not hurt, I promise. The scans will let me see if anything is damaged internally so I can treat you properly."Â
They give a small nod not trusting their voice. Stasis cuffs, bandages, and other medical tools were scattered throughout the clinic. It doesn't settle the human but they sit There twitching as Ratchet slowly works on checking them.Â
Sitting there as tears slowly leak down their face. "Are you going to make me fight again?" They trumble under his touch, his cold digits against their skin have them almost running but they stick to their spot as Ratchet slowly cleans wounds on their back.  Ratchet's optics softened at the fresh tears. "Primus, no," he said gently. "Fighting is the last thing I want you to do."Â
They continue sitting there half naked as Ratchet stitches their injuries, flinching each time his cold digits touch them and each time the needle threads thought their skin, the numbing agent helped prevent the pain but not the frightful reaction.
"I apologise for any discomfort," he states as he begins cleaning off the blood that had dried to their skin. "My hands were not made for such delicate work. But I will be as quick and careful as possible."
True to his word, Ratchet efficiently assessed and wrapped each injury with utmost precision. Cleaning up as he goes, the cold air of the clinic eventually gets the best of the nervous human as they shiver and shake. "There, all finished. You did very well,." His tone was soothing as velvet.Â
He grabs a heavy thermal rag, tucking it gently around the human's shivering form. "Stay warm now. Rest, you are safe."Â
Their eyes continue to watch him as Ratchet goes about checking other clients as they slowly begin filtering in and out of the clinic, even in their tired state they don't dare sleep, constantly watching the medic. It's only when the medications slowly take effect that they slump back against the table.Â

Over the last week, I decided to go ahead with bookmarking all the fics I've recommended over the years on AO3 since I abide by tumblr poll results always (and man pour one out for all the fic that never made it to AO3 or has since been deleted, sooooo many gems lost to time!) and it was a bit more than the ~3,000 I was expecting:
Hopefully, this will be easier than browsing the hundreds of recs posts I've made, since you can filter for any of the author's tags now! These are mostly focused on Star Wars and DC fandom, but I did my time in the anime mines and occasional tours through some TV fandoms or movies. You can dig into everything unfiltered and start your own filtering, or the bigger fandoms you'll find:
MAJOR FANDOMS: Each of these should have 100+ at minimum and, in the case of Star Wars, literally almost half of them are in that fandom. Look, Star Wars fandom might be a trash fire in a lot of ways, but it is ON FIRE with some good fic. (Older bookmarks not guaranteed to match my current sentiments, especially re: the Jedi, but they did catch my fancy at that point in time!)
STAR WARS: - All Star Wars -OR- All Star Wars minus the Obi-Wan/Anakin ship - OR- Nothing BUT Obi-Wan/Anakin
BATMAN/DC: - DC can sometimes be tricky, but you can do a Batman* search and get most of them (though, sometimes Nightwing* or Young Justice* or Superman* will catch some of the others). Honestly, though, you might want to just do a search for what character or dynamic you like and have fun from there, because otherwise you're getting a face full of my Dick Grayson Is The Center Of The Universe And I'm Making That Everyone Else's Problem agenda. ;)
MARVEL/MCU: - Marvel* will probably get most of the various properties, though you may want to filter for Defenders* or Guardians of the Galaxy* if you're interested -OR- Marvel* without the Thor/Loki - These focus a lot on the Thor* fandom if you want to witness the results of like 8 years of constant voracious reading in that fandom (Minus the ship), because, seriously, I read a LOT of Odinson family fic. - Bonus, just do a search for Maximoff* to find some really good X-Men: First Class-verse because, listen, I have been ALL ABOUT the Maximoff twins since long before the movies or MCU brought them over and I will DIE ON THE HILL of "Marvel, make Magneto their bio-dad again or I'm never reading another comic of yours ever".
TOLKIEN/LORD OF THE RINGS/SILMARILLION/HOBBIT: - Tolkien* -OR- Hobbit* -OR- Lord of the Rings* searches will turn up most of my Elf-hunting, I primarily focus on the Sindar Elves, but look I can't resist my problematic Feanorian faves or that I will die on the hill that Fingolfin is the best ever. (You have NO IDEA how sad I am that so much fic on Stories of Arda or FFNET is not easily bookmarked on AO3, sob. I externally bookmarked a few of the bigger ones, but sooo many shorter faves are missing from my recs tag.)
CLAMP: - X/Tokyo Babylon legitimately bums me out because it's not a huge fandom and yet so much of what was written was pre-AO3 and lost when CLAMPesque went down or was never brought over from Livejournal, yet this fandom (well, the Seishirou/Subaru pairing) still burns brightly in my heart.
MINOR FANDOMS: Ones that probably only have under 100 bookmarks (often around the 20-30 bookmarks range), but will at least give you a place to start! ANIME/MANGA: Bleach | Cardcaptor Sakura | Dragonball | Finder no Hyouteki/Viewfinder | Katekyou Hitman Reborn! | Kuroko no Basuke | One Piece | Sailor Moon | Madoka Magica | Naruto | Princess Tutu | Trigun | Weiss Kreuz | Yuri!!! on Ice
BOOKS: Chrestomanci | Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint
DRAMAS: Nirvana in Fire | The Untamed -OR- Modao Zu Shi
TV SHOWS/MOVIES: Community | Game of Thrones -OR- ASOIAF | Good Omens | Hannibal | Highlander | The Old Guard | Our Flag Means Death | Stranger Things
VIDEO GAMES: Dragon Age: Inquisition | Final Fantasy 8 | Genshin Impact | Okami
BANDS: Arashi
All right, whew, that was actually a fun project, despite how much work it was to hunt down a lot of older faves to see if they were on AO3, hopefully you'll find this useful!

Masterlist Navigator - Pinned Post
I am still accepting donations (or commissions!) on ko-fi, but it's not by any means an pressing need anymore. If you want a writing-related goal to support for this, I'm going to move closer to the city (and the new job) once I've built up a bit of a nest egg in case of emergency, and that'll cut down the commute by several hours... which I could use on writing for you guys!
For politics-only followers, I have the sideblog @phoenix-politics.
At this time (May 2024) I am still accepting a trade of charity donations for fic. If you donate over a certain amount to a listed charity, I will write a shortfic for you.

Hey guys, hope youâve all been well and welcome to this little announcement :)
I know itâs been a while since I have done any newsletters/writing updates on here and my other blog, @forbidden-sunlight but unfortunately I wonât be getting more free time to write until mid May or June. Until then, I have at least one idea brewing in my brain, and one concept Iâd like your help on. What is it, you ask?
Well, itâs a character!reader, specifically Chise!reader from the anime The Ancient Magusâ Bride where she is transported to the ancient land of Britannia in a magical experiment gone awry. Britannia is the setting for another anime, Seven Deadly Sins. Here, Chise!reader is found by Meliodas and together they search for his missing comrades as the cook and bartender of The Boarâs Hat Tavern before Princess Elizabeth of Liones stumbles into their lives. It follows the first and second season of the anime, but Iâll need to rewatch it because itâs been a while đ„Č
(For those who have watched The Ancient Magusâ Bride anime, Chise!reader has already went to the College and finished her schooling, but since she has Cartaphilusâ left eye to counter the dragonâs curse, she is an immortal.)
In your opinion guys, who do you think I should pair up Chise!reader with in this fun piece? King or Ban? I did a poll a while back on my other blog, and I have a feeling everyone voted for the latter because heâs a good looking son of a gun lol.
If you have any ideas/thought, please comment on this post and share your opinion on which pairing I should go for and why. Please no bullying or shipping wars on here, guys, this is only for fun and this blog is a safe space.
Canât wait to see what guys come with! Until next time~!

Eldamar!Buzzfeedâs Top 5 Maglor FĂ«anorion Songs
9/26/422 Fo.A
[read on AO3]
The votes are in and the people have spoken! Thanks to our poll last week, Elf!Buzzfeed is excited to present our and your Top 5 Maglor FĂ«anorion compositions, with commentary from expertsâincluding the infamous Singer himself!
5. First Age Northern Beleriandrin Songs of Warding and Warning
After the sheer number and variety of write-ins, we decided to credit Maglor with the whole genre of Songs of Warding and Warning of Siege-Era Northern Beleriand. Top write-ins included âCampfire Warding Songâ, âWind in the Grassâ and âSong of the Gap.â
Expert Opinions:
Eglatarwen Lindambar, a Court Minstrel of Ădoriath: This is an insult to Queen Melian. The Noldor did naught but modify and build upon pre-existing Songs, and all or nearly all the popular Songs of Warding in Beleriand were taught or inspired by Melian, even before she created the Great Girdle. I will concede their effectivenessâagainst most things pettier than dragons, at leastâbut to credit him with the genre? So much for journalistic neutrality.
TimpenindĂ« CuilemĂ«, preeminent bard among the Noldor: Oh, I donât know if Iâm qualified for this oneâI was only in Beleriand for a few decades for the War. But I did recognize Maglorâs work when I found it, and we found it in quite a few places. I think he deserves more credit for the endurance of Himring, actuallyâI saw that immediately. It may be Maedhrosâs will sunk deep into those stones, so deep that neither Morgoth not Ulmo could wear them down. But itâs Maglorâs classic Songs, all love and faith and bloody-minded stubbornness, that served as the final mortar.
Maglor: Iâm flattered, but I really donât think I should be taking credit for this. I did compose my first warding-Song entirely organically, to keep annoying younger brothers out of my bedroom. But everythingâ almost everything in the First Age was collaborative. âCampfire Warding Songâ is ancientâI learned it in my youth from my father, who learned it from his, who Sang it in Cuivienen and during the Great Journey. All I did was modify it to be more attuned to the enemies we faced later, as orcs and such were new and rare for our forefathers. âSong of the Gapâ is a call-and-response with constant improvisationâI did compose the basic melody and rhythm, but it varies every time itâs Sung! Likewise âWind in the Grassâ, âLullaby for Foesâ, âTread Thee Not (or Suffer our Wrath Resplendent)ââŠIâm not saying we didnât compose some good Music, but it was all very collaborative!
4. Noldolantë (Full)
The complete story of the Fall of the Noldor: the prologue of FinwĂ«âs first visit to Aman, then the tragedy of Miriel, the division of the Noldor and the slaughter of FinwĂ«, the Oath, the First Kinslaying, the Burning of the Ships, the Siege, the Breaking of the Siege, the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, the Falls of Gondolin and Nargothrond, the Second Kinslaying, the Third Kinslaying, the War of Wrath and final theft of the Silmarils, the suicide of Maedhros and the lone Singer himself wandering remorseful forevermore; with a postscript for the forging of the One Ring, the deaths of Celebrimbor and Gil-Galad, and the Fall of NĂșmenor. It isnât pure griefâthere are bright spots in the Rescue of Maedhros, the Tale of Beren and LĂșthien (borrowing melodically and lyrically from the Lay of Leithien), the rise of Gil-Estel. However, its wide range of tragedies is famously able to reduce even the stoniest heart to tears at least once.
Composed in pieces mostly over the course of the First Age, and refined into a single piece over the course of the Second and Third Ages, as the singer wandered alone and repentant on the shores of mortal Arda. Takes six and a half days to sing all the way through, unstopping.
Expert Opinions:
TimpenindĂ«: This is not Maglorâs best work. I donât even think itâs his fourth-best work, honestly. It is impressive that he maintains the intensity of emotion throughoutâdeftly waxing and waning, but mostly waxingâand maybe only Maglor could do that for six and a half straight days! But even if it's strong throughout, the whole 'throughout' is just...too much. Even a powerful Singer has to half-kill themselves to perform this, and it's not much more gentle on the audience. Admittedly, I'm not sure what he could possibly cut, but... It is what it is, but it's just not his best work. Also, the lyrics could use workâmore poetry in a couple places, less in others, and I know the faltering meter and rhyme represents his descent into madness but... Well, it suffers from the fact that he was genuinely descending into madness.
Finrod Felagund, High Prince of the Noldor, etc etc: I think this might be ranking so high based on name recognition, honestly. I usually start crying within the first hour, and don't stop... But laced through all my grief for...everything...is the question: if Maglor could produce this sustained tidal wave of craft and raw emotion while wandering lost for 6,000 years, what could he have done if he'd been found instead? It makes me dream wistfully of what greater, kinder marvels he could have wrought... Which only ties into the themes of the song, of courseâwhat could the Noldor have been, if we hadn't gone down the roads we did? What could Arda have been? So, all the more credit to the composer for so thoroughly manifesting this masterpiece!
Maglor: I believe this piece speaks for itself, and for myself.
3. Noldolantë (Original/Standard)
Written in the style of a traditional Noldorin history-song, the original Noldolantë is an accounting of the events of the Darkening through the death of Fëanor, with references at the end to early First Age events including the Rescue of Maedhros and the Dagor Aglareb. Focus is primarily on the Kinslaying at Alqualondë, and secondarily on the Burning of the Ships. Though Maglor originally composed it in Quenya during his brief reign as King of the Noldor and added events throughout the First Age (see: "4. Noldolantë (Full)", this translation into Sindarin, first performed publicly in 68 FA, is the version that was widespread and popular throughout First Age Beleriand and thereafter, and remains most identifiable as "Noldolantë."
Major themes include loss of life and loss of innocence; grief, regret and repentance over the same; and determination to take all this hurt, and all the hurt in Arda, and throw it back at the Enemy tenfold, with sword, Song and fire. Takes about four hours to sing in full, though individual sections were often excerpted as marching chants or battle hymns.
Expert Opinions:
Eglatarwen: The NoldolantĂ« is an undeniably impressive work of technical song-craft, engaging and well-paced narrative, heart-wrenching passion...and propaganda. To not treat it as propaganda would be to do it a disservice, because it's also a very impressive work of propaganda! It takes betrayal and atrocity and turns it into...not 'necessity', to be fair, and nor does it shirk the fault of the Noldorâthough it certainly blames Morgoth as well. But it takes the irredeemable and almost inexorably turns it redeemable. Horrors and darkness which can and will be moved on from. Terrible mistakes which can and will be learned from. If only that had been true.
EĂ€rwen Olwiel, Princess of the Teleri, High Queen-Consort of the Noldor: Surprisingly factual and earnestly apologetic, I think, for all its spin.
Finrod: I still hum it sometimes. I still hum parts about Alqualondë sometimes. I hate how good at this he is.
Maglor: Of course it's propaganda. It was propaganda just for me, first, when I needed to make some reassuring sense of everything or I would shatter like a wedding glass. Then I sang it to buck up my people, not least my younger brothers, and keep us going through some of the worst years of my life. Then word came of Thingol's Ban and we needed a response of equalâthough not directly contradictory, you'll note!âsocial impactâand, appropriately, I had this piece that only really needed to be translated into Sindarin in order to serve. Though of course I did need to rewrite every single word and note in subtle, crafty ways to accommodate the new language, and sometimes in very obvious ways. I still miss the original recursive arpeggios... Shoutout to Glauriel of the Plains for thrice saving my life: once from an orc arrow, once from dragonfire, and once for not killing me herself when I recruited her to help me with the translations, said I only needed a quick Sindarin-native judgement on a few scattered verses, and then made her help me rewrite the first bridge alone six times in six days.
2. âThe Song That Never Endsâ
Infamously annoying short tune which loops both lyrically and melodically, sung most often by children. Composed pre-Darkening. No true potency save, it is rumored, as a means of tormenting enemy prisoners.
Expert Opinions:
Eglatarwen: This song is a malicious attack.
Timpenindë: This is in second place? Stars, I can't believe I was ever engaged to that elf.
Finrod: [staring into the unseen distance as one haunted by memories of torment] The Edain learned this, somehow. The thing about the children of Men, you know, is that they're only children for a very short amount of time relative to us... But there are always more of them...
Maglor: I genuinely regret this one. Iâm not sure I even remember why I wrote it. I think to annoy my parents, or maybe Nelyoâhey, Nelyo! [to his brother, passing by] Do you remember when or why I came up with that annoying looping song?
Maedhros FĂ«anorion: [upon further explanation of the question and context] This is in second place? [to Maglor] I should've killed you when I had the chance. When I still did things like that. [upon being told Finrod's comment on the song] 'Mannish children'? Ha! You can give those back to their parents, not like siblingsâof which he only had four, Iâll note, and none of them composed this monstrosity. And speaking of Man-ish children, whom you canât give back to their parents, he should try righteously vengeful, maliciously compliant teenageâ
[He cut off as our host, Elrond Peredhel, walked in, whistling a few idle, familiar notes before offering everyone another round of tea. Maglor and Maedhros both winced, though they said nothing save to accept tea.]
1. Ardamirë
Unofficial subtitle: (Father) It's Not Only Ours Anymore
An ode to Gil-Estelâthe jewel, the Light, the ship and captain, the Star. Elements composed and gathered over nearly 6,500 years of wandering on mortal shores, including elements of the NoldolantĂ«; arranged into a complete song in the decades after Maglorâs return to Valinor at the start of the Fourth Age. Takes about three hours to sing in full, reducing most listeners to mostly-joyful tears.
Expert Opinions:
Maglor: Good choice, peopleâthis one is the best.
FĂ«anor CurufinwĂ«, Crafter of the Silmarils: I won't pretend to be as expert in musical composition as my son, in Songs of Power or simply in casual music-craft. However, I'm certain this isn't his best work, technically speaking. Did truly so few people vote for "The Great Journeyâ or âOn the Slopes of TĂșna"? [shaking his head] The wisdom of the Eldar truly has been diluted... And surely the recency of this composition biases voters in its favor. Are you certain you've balanced your data properly? âŠBut the song is persuasive. And sticks in one's head very effectively. I've been thinking about it.

I donât want to jinx it, but LawBin are slowly edging their way to the next percentage point, so 40% of the vote might not be out of the question. And itâs interesting to see approximately the same percentage of voters for either ship (as in, the percentages from the beginning of the day) are only slightly different from the end.
Iâve got a screencap in this reblog if you want to check, and you can drop a vote for LawBin while youâre at it, if you like đŻđș
I donât feel theyâll win from LawSan, but that 40% would be very sweet!

haha, I do this stuff n my tags, but itâs good to see here too. Law has had two ships go through (2/5), but theyâll be up against each other next round, so only one of the ships will go through for the round after that (and as much as I love LawBin, I think LawSan will win that round). Shanks has two ships too, but also up against one another next round (I didnât count how many he was nominated forâShanksBenn lost, so 3 at least). I think that the Cross Guild will win the polycule (again, Iâve been proven wrong many times) or take second place overall, so Mihawk will get rep somewhere!
Dofuwaniâs a ship that might have an outside chance, but I still think that end game will be FroBin vs NamiVivi. (Dofuwaniâs up against NamiVivi, so no chance I now think!)
Killer & Kid are through too, and ShaPen, but I donât think ShaPen will win their round. Saboala against Cobymeppo next round.
Because I'm very weird, but:
Good job for Usopp in the duo shipping war. Of his three (3) ships, two (2) are still in the running.
Robin is doing the next best with two (2) ships out of five (5) continuing to the next round.
Luffy, Zoro and Jinbe are all out of the running, having had four (4), four (4) and two (2) ships, respectively.
Nami will continue with one (1) ship out of eight (8), whatever way her last poll ain this round goes. (It's very likely Vivi's only ship will continue.)
Brook and Franky are also currently continuing with one (1) ship out of three (3) and one (1), respectively.
Sanji has the most continuing ships at three (3) but coming out of nine (9) ships, makes his â
less than Usopp's â
.
I only did this with the Straw Hats, though I recorded that Law had five (5) ships, Ace had six (6) and Sabo two (2) (one (1) of which is continuing which I could do in my head without checking the bracket)

tagged by @arisatominakos to do this lil poll...!!
pick your favourite ship featuring at least one oc of mine :3 i am literally only including my two primary afhiri ships because i think this is a fucking war because i have friends who rlly don't like one and adore the other and theres some clear bias shit going on so I WILL MAKE THEM FIGHT. under the read more is some info about both ships and the characters :) candor is ofc another oc of mine and gale is. mr dekarios
i will not be tagging anyone because this kind of embarrasses me.... LDKSJFSDF wait i lie i tag @aeducanthaig @roseeway i know who null will vote for actually... IF YOU WANNA DO THIS CONSIDER URSELF TAGGED PLEASE!!!!! this is such a good idea i'm just a twit
afhiri is my sweet lil bardic clown tiefling that i feel like everyone who follows me knows intimately by now SL;DFKSDF ... if you don't know much about afhiri.... afhiri is very silly and very sweet, uneducated and purposefully pretends to be much more immature and childish than they actually are because they are quite literally trying to relive their childhood that was stolen from them! they don't like responsibility or emotional conflict! they do like to sing and dance and have fun :3
candor is a solar angel who acts as a steward and avatar for lathander and is very calm and collected .. stern, sotic, quite dry and humourless.... is undergoing a self imposed exile because it feels like it failed lathander (it literally didnt). believes wholly in honour and duty and justice, is absolutely full to the brime with affection and love and shows it wholly through loyal devotion and service .
candor finds afhiri during the exile and decides to protect her from herself (and her wild magic) . candor fully believes they are soulmates and when candor was created at the beginning of the universe it was created with a missing piece, and that afhiri is that piece ..... also candor is 10ft tall and afhiri is 5ft tall so like. :) they are extremely gentle and sweet together. afhiri is not a calm person at all and is quite against anything that tries to get her to be srs at any amounts cuz it frightens them. but candor is different. candor threatens everything afhiri is trying to build (running away from themselves and what they were forced to become for their family) but afhiri doesn't run from candor.... it is security, it is safety. it is ok to be their entire self around candor. candor leaves at the end of the game feeling worthy of returning to lathanders side, and promises afhiri that when she dies, it will guide her through the upper planes and they will spend eternity together
afhiri x gale is super funny to me i rewrote canon a bit with it so picture this . wyll and karlach are partners in my canon, and afhiri is acting as a sort of replacement for karlach in intimacy between the couple . gale sees this as afhiri being a third partner in the relationship and grows jealous because he likes afhiri and believes he could be better for her so the act 2 scene is him confessing his feelings and asking for her to give him a chance because he knows they'll create beautiful magic together.. and afhiri laughs in his face cuz she's just fwb with them man. god gale ur so silly. i like silly. mwah mwah anyway that's how that relationship starts. i like afhiri x gale because to me its about keeping gale young... she is fun and full of energy and life and gale has kept himself locked away for a year to wither and wilt and afhiri is a burning sun who makes him feel alive ... this relationship ends up quite toxic however, a certain event happens that causes gale to kill afhiri (and candor gets involved its a whole drama) and gale feels so much guilt and fear at the realisation of death separating them that they have limited time hes back on his god bullshit ^_^ though it's not all bad. in my canon afhiri and gale ascend together and candor and afhiri are reunited in the upper planes but its a bit different :) (candor isnt happy, but devoted itself to afhiri instead of lathander all the same) .
as u can see afhiri x candor and afhiri x gale has quite a lot of overlapping and theres some poly stuff going on here i could talk about it forever.....

4?
lol oh ho ho ho i see what you're doing
ask meme
4. Share a dark thought? (Go on, vent a little)
IM GONNA VENT (this is behind oh well i had to get my feelings bubbling up)
honestly i hate canon or bust. it literally kills the joy and sucks the fun out of fandom. and even the source material itself. maybe it's just me being older and having been in fandom for literal decades, but like this crusade for Canon or Nothing At All is just so fucking bad and is just overall detrimental to engaging with the source material, with fanworks, and even just each other!!!
about to just drop everything under the cut because it's long and incoherent
like, okay. yes, do i want representation? sure. do i want stories written for queer characters deserving of story arcs equal or better than what the straights typically get? yeah of course im not a monster. but like, people don't even know how to handle the representation they do get. and then have the gall to ask for perfection when it does show up. that's the burden to bear of being the Chosen Ones is that the weight of expectations is heavier than, like, side character three. so i get it. i get all of that. i want the good things also. i want the ladies kissing ladies on television etc etc
but that's not what im talking about. im talking about the people who literally will just sour the well with their desire that if their Ship isn't canon then it's time to ruin the playground because if i'm not having fun no one can be having fun. and that's literally so terrible and bad and also makes everyone not like being there any more. you shat on their sandbox, you burned down the monkeybars. like, it's not fun there anymore. but the problem there (other than it's annoying and destructive), is that it just further puts fanworks under the agenda of Pushing for Canon Truth instead of, like, a fun thing to share and do with your community.
another caveat here: OF COURSE fandoms have been doing both of those things this whole time, but it just always feels like when i see a push for "make X canon" (X being a ship, 99% of the time), it almost doesn't care about just enjoying yourself??? making a ship canon can be and is important in the larger landscape of media, culture, and representation. yes yes, i'm with you. but i think especially in fandom spaces if canon is not there, then what else is left? is such a bad take.
the rare pairs are there. the multiships. but not even just ships, but dynamics between characters. there are probably other strong contenders for the piece of media that irrevocably changed the landscape of fan/media relations, but since i *was* in the glee fandom, i'm gonna blame that one. i think the nature of how glee essentially opened access to the actors, to the producers, to the showrunners that had direct impact on the source material's canon kinda set up the groundwork for how the rest of media would evolve for the next decade. the ship wars and the ship polls were kinda insane back then. idk if it's still insane now because i've retired from my 'fandom city apartment' to my 'fandom small coastal town bungalo' and just minding my business. all that to say that even as a shipper, 90% of fandom conversations when it comes to Canon is literally just the pursuit of making their two white men (or women) kiss.
which means that we lose out on actual conversations and discussions around character development, dynamics with others as foils or as antagonists, and the larger implication in the plot of the whole thing.
i know the desire for canonifying two characters with insane chemistry and with storylines that lead to romance were they cast as one heterosexual male and one heterosexual female comes from the unfairness and frustration that if it's already right there, why not just fucking do it? listen we're all fighting an uphill battle for equality across the board, so any step forward is gonna be met with a step back, if not more. so like, i'm cognizant of this. so i get why. but when the entire persona that someone displays is just to push for wanting a ship to be Canon above all else, that's when it breaks down for me.
i doubt im making any sense at this point so im just gonna close this out by saying that yeah, i want similar things at the end of the day. i also want the two women with insane chemistry and whose storylines beat for beat match that of a heterosexual pairing had they been cast as such. but canon is not my business, i have nothing to do with that. because i don't make my fun at the doll shop where i bought my barbies. that's not the appropriate place for me to play. i make my fun in the sandbox where i stick the barbies' heads in the sand, as a treat.
#replies#sideguitars#yes yes blah blah nuance#im not trying to vent nuance im trying to vent my frustrations lmao#so im not really all that sorry this is all over the place and makes no sense#it's out of my spirit and im back to being cool gang sam again#sam meta
