Jedi culture & community fics, my beloved! They're a bit of a rare breed for what you're specifically looking for, specifically focusing on positive Jedi worldbuilding, so if anyone has genfic recs outside of the ones I know, please feel free to add them! But these should help scratch that itch for you, each of them has at least some focus on Jedi philosophy or how Jedi interact with each other or the lessons they teach! It's been awhile since I've read some of them, so there might be some that aren't quite as in-line with how I see the Jedi these days, but they're all ones I felt portrayed them pretty positively and they're all genfic (except one that I made an exception for) and all really lovely fics I remember enjoying for the Jedi worldbuilding aspects! And there are some that will make you absolutely melt with how much you love these characters and their beautiful culture, because by god if canon's not going to give us as much detail as we want, fandom will step up. And fandom made sure to not just focus on the disaster lineage--we love Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka, we always want more of them, please don't stop writing Jedi worldbuilding with them!--but also Mace and Yoda and Quinlan and Qui-Gon and even some Jedi OCs get some love in these fics, which makes me want to explode with joy to see! Obi-Wan Kenobi Falls on Melida-Daan. First off, I've found the portrayal of the Dark Side here to be really interesting, I love how Obi-Wan struggles and fights with it. Tarre and Jaster are both great additions, I love the slow development as they try their best to help this hurting kid. Overall, I'm really enjoying it and am excited to see what's next!

Feemor saves a random Mandalorian and earns himself the position of Jedi watchman for the sector. This one makes me grin! There's a clear love for the Jedi and what they are in this fic that I absolutely adore. Feemor going around touching people's lives for the better is wonderful. Jaster and his people are a delight as well! A lovely read so far!

It was the boy’s training armour that tipped Obi-wan off that this was more than just a lost child. “I have a youngling in front of me. There is no one else around and I am pretty sure he’s Mandalorian.” Quinlan paused, then asked, “...Come again?” Obi-Wan peered down at the child tugging at his arm. “Aran, ner echoy'la.” Kriff. “Correction, I have a Mandalorian boy in front of me telling me he’s lost.” - Or it’s Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi’s turn to be a Temporary Temple Guard and of course one of his past missions comes back to haunt him.

No one knows yet how in the Sith hells Obi-Wan managed to sneak up to his quarters before collapsing, either. The fact that he did so on the morning of his own fucking funeral is so theatrical that Vokara may never forgive him.

I have been drifting back to STAR WARS fandom lately and I have been greatly rewarded for it, especially in the gen fic veins, because there have been some banger fics authors have been putting out! And the thing that really gets me in the fannish heart is that there's more and more fics about the Jedi, both for exploring the characters and the culture. I have been able to find multiple fics that have been kind to Mace Windu! I have been able to find multiple fics that explain what attachment actually is to the Jedi and to Star Wars! I have been able to find multiple fics that lift my spirit up or punch me in the feelings in exactly the right way, both for the usual disaster lineage faves, but also for the Jedi as a whole. Examines person hood, healing, love, and siblings. (oh and the authors settings in Pantora are inspired by Alaska and are so freaking beautiful)

Harry Potter, Mature This is probably the only time I'll recommend a harry potter fic, but it's truly worth it. This is a noir detectivy thing that starts by being spread over two different points in time that slowly meet. I have no clue how the author keeps all the plotlines together cause, wow. It also follows an original character which I really love. I'm a few chapters behind that latest update so am feeling like a reread is in order.

Friday Fic Recs

It's ship time! Specifically some Jango Fett/Obi-Wan Kenobi fics. As is usual for me I've kept to fics without active Jedi-bashing. With that out of the way, these are all Jangobi canon-adjacent AU one shots with less than 5k words.

Mandalorians are Selkies AU! Mandalorians are Selkies AU! I loved this one so much! Jango is a delight and I love the domesticity! Obi-Wan stays a Jedi! I absolutely love that Jango winds up Jedi-adjacent. I don't think I've seen it much if at all outside this fic and honestly, after reading this, I think it should happen more. They seem so genuinely happy and at peace by the end I love it!

starving (till i tasted you) by Siderea

In a galaxy where you crave whatever your soulmate eats, Obi-Wan has long gotten accustomed to the taste of spicy food. Soulmates AU! This one is really cute! I enjoyed the little detective work Obi-Wan does to find Jango. Jango's hatred of shig is fun and their first meeting is delightful. It made me smile!

Bajur and Caf by ironhoshi

Canon Divergence AU! Obi-Wan's padawanship didn't work out but he's still a Jedi. He's on Mandalore teaching and winds up having a one night stand with the parent of one of his students. This one is so much fun! I absolutely adore Jango's squad of wingmen trying their best to get Jango and Obi-Wan to go out on an actual date. The concept amuses me and the execution amuses me more. Boba is a delight! This is a really sweet fic!

Someone was standing there. Whoever they were, they were small and moved through katas with their hands open like a greeting.

The temple was burning, the Jedi were dying, betrayed by one of their own. Feemor was one of the last Temple Guards standing, and they had a choice to make. Keep standing guard and join their siblings in death, or help the creche masters smuggle the little ones out. In the end, saving those innocent little lights was most important, so he grabbed one and ran with a prayer to the Force that they'd find safety from the new Sith Empire raising up from the ashes of the Jedi and Senate.

(I don’t think this will make sense without reading the previous one but you’re welcome to try, I’m aware it’s a bit of a read)

Repudiation. A relic from before the Ruusan Reformation. Officially, it meant rejecting a concept as unauthorized or as having no binding force to a particular individual or contract. In practice it translated as being completely disowned from one’s lineage. Feemor had taken each day following his former master’s repudiation one step at a time, content to simply melt into the stacks of the Temple Archives and disappear into obscurity. Yet when he meets a youngling slated to be the next piece in Yoda’s plan for Qui-Gon Jinn, he finds that maybe the Force has more in store for him than he originally thought. or   Obi-Wan is adorable, Feemor isn’t about to let another youngling get hurt by Qui-Gon’s stupidity and Yoda’s manipulations, Jocasta is a BAMF grandma that likes to feed Obi-Wan cookies, and canon dies a fiery death on Mustafar.

Of Knights and Brothers by Tamloid - Rated T

“To withstand repudiation and come out the other side with confidence in your worth as a Jedi, with a deeper and more complete understanding of your innermost self… that, Masters, is a true Trial of Spirit. I can assure you of that.” In which Feemor is knighted, loses nearly everything, and rebuilds himself from the ground up with the help of his friends, his little brother, and a few helpful nudges from the Force to guide the way.

(Sidious is just confused about how all his pawns keep slipping out from beneath his thumb.)

If you could get to know and/or write with another writer (or more) who would it be?

Hey there! Sorry for taking all day to answer this. You really got me thinking and I didn't want to give an answer halfway just to get it done quickly.

I would first and foremost want to write with my dear friend @photogirl894. As a fellow major fan of The Bad Batch, I think a mutual love for this show and the characters would make way for an awesome story, and plus, the way that she can bring her original characters to life is stunning to me. Y'all should read her works, such as Sun and Rain (Hunter x OC) and Mirrors in the Force (Kanan x OC)

I would also love to get to know @freesia-writes since I know the love for TBB is also mutual. I'm so in love with the way she writes Crosshair particularly.

Another writer I respect greatly is @nahoney22. Not only does Honey capture each bad batcher fantastically well but her personality is top tier and I think everyone should get to know her.

@darthzero22 is very dear to me as well, and we share many fandoms besides Star Wars that we have bonded over the years with. She is a kind, wonderful soul who writes beautifully and I'm honored to know her.

Of course @lizartgurl your writing does not go unnoticed as well!!
