It's so blatantly obvious that the only thing baby Shanks wanted from life was having as much fun with his found family as humanly possible & to see it slowly rip away from him breaks my fucking heart. Slowly realizing the "good times" can't/won't last forever permanently scarred him.

See how freaked out he was for Oden when he got hit by that stray grenade. How worried he was for Buggy when he got sick. How it seemed he started paying closer attention to Roger the sicker he got. While everyone else is in goofy tears when Roger disbands the crew Shanks is hiding his reaction & the news is noticeably weighing heavy on him depsite his young age.

Noticing that Shanks probably thought the One Piece could cure his captain only to cry into his father's arms when he realizes there is no stopping him from dying. All while everyone else is excitedly talking about the journey with little Buggy mind you. Who cares about the One Piece when Roger is still gunna leave him?

Having to see him break down in tears by the time Roger is leaving for what is the One Piece equivalent of Hospice. He watched his family break down in real time & he couldn't do anything about it.

Watching all this knowing he's also going to lose Buggy in the near distant future. The last person he thought he had left. How many times do you think Shanks said to himself "Well at least I still have Buggy! " only to freeze from the shock of seeing the last connection to his happy childhood run away from him in the rain.

How long do you think Shanks stood there in the rain? How immediate do you think the "guilt" of driving him away invaded his mind? Do you think he has nightmares about it? Do you think he hates the rain now? Did he turn to the bottle to numb the pain?

Someone give this kid a hug right now!

Sorry for spam I love ur art soososo much. I cannot get over how you draw luffy like a muppet he is so jfjdkdksj wonderful. I love tiger zoro but also how you normally draw him oouugghh the guy ever he's so shaped in jr style everytbings so fluid. Again, I'm obsessed with the way your lines lay on a page the texture the flow the everything it makes my eyes and brain happy

I’ve been rewatching One Piece with a friend (their first time, my second) And we just finished up Fish Man Island and were watching episode 570 and I saw something so sweet that I hadn’t seen before. It was the scene where Jinbei is trying to tell Luffy about the world and how it’s changed and at first everyone is like this:

Note where everyone is! But then, when things get more serious and the mention of Akainu comes up, saying he’s the new fleet admiral and then Luffy touches his scar and grimaces, remembering bad things and the next time we get a far shot it’s this:

And then for the rest of the conversation, Sanji sat down beside Luffy, kinda like a silent support when they get to Blackbeard.

And I thought wow that’s so cool and small detail and I decided to check the manga and sure enough:

Sanji just auto sits down beside Luffy, and pretty close too. It doesn’t take observation haki to know hearing about that kind of stuff for Luffy was hard, especially since it’s one of the only times you really see Luffy in distress about his scar and Marineford. And just, Sanji picking up on that and making sure he’s close to to his captain, to be like ‘hey we’re here with you and for you, you’re not alone’. Kindness, probably mixed with guilt for not being there, just more for Sanij’s character. He’s being there for Luffy now and I can’t get over this subtle little thing.

Because we are following a crew of kids and misfits around, it's so easy to forget how much other people know. Hell, even people from the crew.

Luffy, is a kid and airhead. But he's a D and forgets to say important things. He could know about the Will of D as a family legend.

Zoro is obsessed with his swords. He doesn't talk about anything else. But he had the keyword "Sunatchi", and right upon hearing Luffy's ambition from Coby, says "King of the Pirates?! Does he know what that means?!" He could know some history without knowing it's from the void century.

Nami had too much on her plate as a child to know anything but legends. Which is a good author choice, because she's too clever and would tell us things.

Usopp has been raised with Nika's religion. I bet he know at least the religious lore. Still a kid and it doesn't interests him much though.

Sanji had too much on his plate as a child, and is not interested. Would know Germa lore though.

Chopper had to learn a lot from becoming a human on. But he focused on medicine. Same as Nami, since he is clever. He also is still a child.

Robin : she is looking for information on the void century specifically. But she knows so much about the rest of History. Not the focus of the story, so she won't tell us unless it becomes relevant.

Franky : He is so focused on technology. The rest isn't that important, even the lore and legends he heard as a child.

Brook : Set sail before Roger, doesn't know him. Knows some history but is soooo out of the loop. Knows some lore, including music. (Looking at you, Binks' sake) He could even know things about the will of D. But it isn't a topic of interest on the ship.

Jinbei : as a Sun Pirate, he must know about Nika and the lore going with it. He must know the Fishmen's history. But he hasn't joined that long ago. He is still finding his footing. I assume he'll be able to tell us when it becomes relevant.

this was meant to be a warm up... but i had some fun experimenting! primarily with coloring, shading, and lighting only on one layer, and trying to focus less on blending as well.
