RP Partner Ad - 30+ f, queer romance
Looking for long term partners in my age range, namely 30+, to write spicy, gay romance with on Discord. I've been writing my vampire for four years and would love to see him in some different scenarios.
I'm especially interested in seeing him play out in an urban fantasy setting where he is more involved with the political going-ons of vampire society.
That said, I also love coming up with OCs on the fly. I am extremely adaptable to different plots.
I like the supernatural, e.g. vampires, demons, angels, ghosts, witches, religion. I like my RPs to be spicy, pushing the characters' boundaries, D/s, power imbalances, slow burn, anguished, pain as pleasure. My character isn't defined by their sexual predilections but to put a point on it, he is a verse/switch.
I enjoy world building, urban fantasy, historic fantasy, even a bit of science fantasy. Dystopian settings are really fun too. Despite the movie being lame, Water World had kind of an interesting thing going on. I also enjoy genre blending.
I'm interested in all kinds of scenarios but here are some that have been burning a hole in my pocket. We can start with these or even something completely different:
MOTORCYCLE MONSTERS: Dark cyberpunk setting. Your character leads the biker gang. My character is an orphaned vampire, drawn to yours due to the command and confidence you exhibit. From there, I think there's some opportunity for mistakes and punishment, personal growth, a begrudging growing desire between the two characters. Enemies to lovers'ish, I guess.
DUSTPUNK: Desert dystopia filled with competing factions vying for resources. My character is an agent of the vampire faction who hunts and assassinates their enemies. Your character has done something to draw the attention and ire of the vampires. My character is sent to hunt you down and bring you back to the vamps.
URBAN FANTASY: Like mentioned above, my character is more involved with the political machinations of vampires. I really enjoy when vampires are still in hiding, so I'd like to maintain that part. Your character could be a rival, someone trying to disrupt my character's plans, another supernatural creature, or something else entirely.
VAMPIRE HUNTER: I've always wanted to play across from a hunter. I think this could easily fit in urban fantasy but any setting or plot could work.
Anyways, like this or shoot me a DM if you're interested!

Sooo out of curiosity, are you aware of any TTRPGs that use tarot cards for resolution without just using the raw numbers and leaning more into the symbolism of each one? I’ve been getting really into Eidolon: Become Your Best Self 2E lately, and my brain just cannot accept that this is the first published game to actually do that. (I’ve seen games that use the numbers of the major arcana, but the actual forecasts I’ve never seen used before?)
The way you've phrased this makes me suspect the real purpose of this request was to get me to front-page a plug for your new favourite game on my blog, but I'm in a good mood, so I'll play ball. =P
To the topic, tabletop RPGs implementing conflict resolution via interpreting the symbolism of cards isn't terribly common, but it's far from unheard of. The earliest published example I'm personally aware of is Jonathan Tweet's Everway (1995), though this one's arguably not an answer to your question because it uses a proprietary 36-card cartomancy deck rather than a traditional tarot; it depends on whether you mean interpretive cartomancy in general, or the tarot in particular.
If you meant the tarot in particular, I suspect you're not going to see one prior to the early 2000s because of how difficult it was to get your hands on tarot cards in the 80s and 90s – and the lingering spectre of the Satanic Panic, of course! – but I'd love to be proven wrong.
(If anyone wants to offer their own examples in the notes, remember the brief: we're talking about games which use interpreting the symbolism of cartomancy cards as their core conflict resolution method, not just games which have tarot cards in them somewhere.)

18+ VAMPIRE VS WEREWOLF DISCORD SERVER

*𝐈 . In the beginning…
Vampires and werewolves have been enemies since the dawn of time. A cat and dog rivalry, constantly chasing, attacking, and killing one another. In the past however, they were able to disguise their factions and fights, preying on humans in the shadows. The only ones aware were each other, bickering about not being careful, or splitting the rations of blood.
𝐈𝐈. Covens formed, packs were joined, and throughout history, they prevailed. However, as times would change, so did technology, and their deceptive ways had begun to grow detected. Tensions rose as wolves blamed their bat enemies for not being cautious enough, and vampires blaming their wolven rivals for rampaging in their werewolf form in the night.. over time, they resolved this conflict with an shared idea, as hunters arose as a threat.
𝐈𝐈𝐈. The covens and packs migrated deep into the woods, where they’d be hidden from humankind. This seemed like a perfect resolve.. but problems are never truly over- as now, a new night stalking Shapeshifting beast has been thrown into the ring.. having been hidden in the woods for decades since.

Other Magic (2020) is so good! The concept is straight forward: What if traditional folk magic, but translated into vaguely D&D terms for use in RPGs? Jesse Ephraim focuses primarily on American systems — pow-wows, rootwork, brujeria and Ozark magic — but also includes the very intense Russian tradition of Zagovory as a sort of contrast. This might seem odd, especially since all of these speak to a more recent historical era than most fantasy games. Early on, though, Ephraim points out that Manly Wade Wellman’s Silver John is a good example of a folk magician, and the Silver John stories are clear inspirations for D&D, despite being set in America in the 1960s, so this sort of thing can definitely work (see also Lowcountry Crawl).
Ephraim details charms, hexes, enchantments and all sorts of interesting details. At a glance, it might seem like folk magic is vastly underpowered in comparison to pulpy magic like the spells of D&D, but in reading through the zine you can see how naturally fantasy magic, particularly its defensive branches (detection, protection, etc), is rooted in folk traditions. Those aspects that lack a direct connection are clearly complimentary. They offer a kind of magical methodology that could be applied to RPGs for interesting effect — the idea of magic being a back and forth, or magic as the application of secret knowledge. The traditions here are lower key and less flashy than fireballs and lightning bolts, but they also imply new systems of play. One example: there’s a charm that can be used to force a shapeshifter into its natural form — there is no corollary for that in the standard suite of D&D spells, but you can easily image it in the game, and see how it might change a lycanthrope-centric scenario, for instance.
All the illustrations are fantastic woodcuts (I believe by Ephraim) that illustrated effects of spells and strange creatures they can summon, which leads us to tomorrow’s post…

Hey Bill ! Not many people can say my full name. It's Triangulum Entangulum Meteforis Dominus Ventium Meteforis Venetisarium. I wonder if you're able to pronounce it right. I'd love to see you try !

Sherlock? Can you please get me a souvenir from the medieval fair? Pretty please? Something witchy would be appreciated.
Well you are watching over Rosie, so getting you a souvenir or gift is probably an expected social norm as some note of thanks.
Something 'witchy'? I suppose you are talking about occult symbols or mythological creatures. I deduced that you prefer necklaces, so here is a selection of necklaces from the medieval fair that meet your criteria and preferences.

LOL.
The 80's were a wild time. If I'd seen this, I'd thought D&D was cool as all hell.

Like 90% of all tabletop RPGs which include ritual magic in modern settings – those that put any thought at all into the metaphysics of it, anyway – are stuck on 1990s neopaganism and/or early 2000s chaos magic as their model for what's really going on, and most of the remaining 10% are just 19th Century Theosophy/Golden Dawn shit with some (but not all) of the racism scrubbed off. I think we need to go deeper – I want to see an urban fantasy RPG whose magic users are fucking John Dee style angel summoners. I want to see an urban fantasy RPG based on whatever Aristotle was smoking.

It's 1995 in Sacramento, California.
All seems fairly normal. Spring is coming to an end, streets and stores are bustling with people, some tourists have come to visit the scenic beaches on the outskirts of the forests, werewolves and vampires are wandering amongst people.
Okay So, maybe not all is normal.
But to the residents of town, and most tourists, they haven't the slightest idea that the undead are walking among them. The creatures prefer it this way, as they'd rather not be headhunted, and it makes feeding a lot easier for vampires. most werewolves anyway can live fairly normal lives, until the full moon begins to peek. And all they have to do, is hide away from civilization until the moon hides away once more..
Of course, some humans are suspicious.. as stories have leaked from time to time of sightings in the forest, vampires in the night, and some have ventured into the woods or delved deep into the night to catch a glimpse of anything supernatural. Most of these tales are hushed, deemed as fairytales and superstition.. but in reality, they're all true.
It wouldn't be too much of a problem, besides the newfound group of "hunters" that are dead set on discovering these creatures and weeding them out, but werewolves and vampires are totally careful and not at all in danger of being found.. right?

Other Magic II (2020) goes where all great RPG lines wind up eventually: a monster book. Subtitled Monsters of the Americas, it is a collection of unusual creatures from a variety of American folk traditions, all accompanied by Jesse Ephraim’s minimal yet evocative woodcut art.
Some might be familiar to well-read aficionados of monsters from oral traditions. The Raven Mockers, for instance, which I know from their appearance in Manly Wade Wellman’s Silver John novel The Old Gods Waken. Over all though, I suspect Other Magic II will be the first time readers encounter most of these creatures, like the headless mule (gouts of fire shoot from the neck of this monster, which is actually a woman cursed to take the form) or the Lagahoo (a man whose head is a coffin topped with three burning candles, who rather reminds me of Pyramid Head, actually).
Most of these monsters are interesting for a couple of mechanical reasons. For starters, they aren’t really good for D&D style combat encounters. Rather, their reasons for being almost all beg for whole, dedicated scenarios (I can easily see these used in spooky games like Vaesen or Call of Cthulhu). This is partly because of another interesting feature: most of the monsters can’t be killed in conventional ways, if at all. The majority of them can only be driven away temporarily. For some, the only strategy is avoidance. Like the magic of the first volume, this implies different modes of play for readers to investigate on their own, which I am more than happy to oblige!

I’m going to completely rebrand this page. I’ve kind of stopped working on the original OCCULT idea for now.
I want to focus on making smaller TTRPG ideas and for some general writing. I’d like to start releasing some zeens with micro rpgs.
