Major Nightbringer S1 spoilers

Not enough people talk about how Michael's whole "plan" in S1 was not only insane towards the brothers/the Devildom but also a straight-up act of defiance against God.

Like, it's implied at least twice, by both Simeon and Raphael, that what Michael did miiiiiight not have actually been Father's will.

^ the first scrutiny, from Simeon. Implying that what Michael said and what God actually wants are not the same.

Now, I'd brush this off as just a part of Simeon's "starting to doubt and fall away from his faith" character development arc, if Raphael didn't back this up with complete confidence later on. You know, Raphael, the one said to be "the only one who truly understands Michael"?

This is what he had to say:

"Just because he missed his former brothers."

"Just because he missed his former brothers."

He didn't go down there on an order from Father. He didn't go down there to be Father's spokesperson. He went down there for his own purposes... while pretending to be a messenger of God.

He spent his entire time in the Devildom putting words in Father's mouth and intentionally misrepresenting his will. That is, like, the purest and most blatant form of heresy one can commit. Our "good boy" angel is literally a heretic.

The entire climax of S1 was basically Michael doing the equivalent of forging your parents' signature on a field trip permission slip. Fucking dying

i started reading your villainess au and i have a few questions, lucifer's siblings (demon brothers in the game) are blood related? i know it is later said that the emperor had a few bastards (i'm assuming these are who in the game are the archangels), but wasn't that after the rebellion? are the ppl from that kingdom ok if the mother of the heir was/is a concubine or is there some opposition? i will probably come back with more

No, the bastards are the rest of Lucifer's siblings, and they were all generally born in the time between the Empress's death and Lucifer's rebellion, which was around 30-ish years. The demon brothers are blood-related to Lucifer, but with not that much difference between their ages.

Celestia does have a history of concubines and the heirs not having to be related to the Empress even if they're related to the Emperor, but anyone who would have backed Lucifer as the sole heir to the hilt would've been caught up in Lucifer's rebellion anyway and punished accordingly.

That night, when his fiancée finally fell asleep, the demon slid out of bed and kneeled outside of it.

He did the very thing he swore to himself that he'd rather rip his other two sets of wings off than do again:

He prayed.

"Heavenly Father, speak to me though I have sinned." He spoke softly, his eyes closed as practically every syllable dripped with venom from the contempt he felt for the man he was calling.

Suddenly, Lucifer felt as if he was floating, a sensation he hadn't felt in so long despite it still being so familiar to him.

He was floating amonst the clouds when a blinding light began to pierce his retinas.

"So, the prodigal son returns." His Father said mockingly. "How is My favorite son?"

"You can drop the theatrics!" He yelled, arms covering his eyes from the light. "Believe me when I say I have not forgotten the size of your ego nor your penchant for self-aggrandizing yourself at every opportunity!"

Gradually, the light dimmed and Lucifer's lowered his arms.

That's when the demon saw a face he both saw every day and hasn't seen in what felt like a lifetime.

There his Father stood on a cloud, appearing exactly how he remembered Him to be.

Long greying blonde hair in a braid over his shoulder, piercing green eyes, and a demeanor that the son could only describe in the present as being haughty and demeaning.

He shared a similar look as Satan, or rather...Satan looked a great deal like his grandfather.

The older man had a wider jaw and a short, greying beard, but otherwise they were the spitting image of one another; Satan looked more related to the godhead than Lucifer did.

That was all because of what He did to Lucifer, what He caused within him.

The demon became pregnant with his son because of this man, because of all the anger he felt at his Father for His betrayal, for Him threatening his sister's life.

Lucifer's son existed because of this man...and in the long run, that was probably the only good thing his Father has ever given to him

But he'll still never forgive his Father for all that He's done.

"Well my morningstar, it's been awhile." The godhead feigned a loving smile. "What can I do for the son who can never find the time to call his dear Father?"

"Enough." Lucifer scowled at the man in front of him. "I need information. Something has happened to my son--"

"Oh did he survive?" The 'supreme' being tilted his head. "I thought I had pushed on him enough so that one or both of you wouldn't survive the birth."

Lucifer's eyes widened.

"You knew I was pregnant?"

"Oh my son," The older man smirked. "I know everything; I have made sure of that."

The godhead started roaming on his cloud, eyes no long on Lucifer.

"I sensed your child hundreds of years before you could even accept the resentment you held for me. Your little obsession with Me was quite flattering so I decided to stay quiet and let you keep the child--no children are allowed to be born in such a fashion in my home, but I saw no reason not to let you carry it as long as I suppressed it's growth."

The older man turned back to his son, a mocking smile formed with his lips.

"But mostly, you did it yourself. A sweet word from your 'Daddy' went so far with you; I always kept you loving me just a bit more than you resented me. Oh that must have been painful, for both you and the child."

The godhead's eyes lit up.

"I could feel it. That poor, poor boy's struggle; gasping for life in your makeshift womb as I guided you into slowly choking the pre-life out of--"

"Enough."

Lucifer couldn't handle it. He thought he long became immune to his Father's mind games, but the older man knew he had a weakness, his most sensitive one: Satan.

"My son was dying." Lucifer pushed forward with his purpose. "His soul was unraveling, but he did not die."

This was the first time Lucifer has ever seen genuine shock on his Father's face and the expression made his own blood run cold; whatever was wrong with his son looked to almost worry his Father and that was not a good sign.

"What do you know of this?" Lucifer demanded.

The godhead pursed his lips in a way all too familiar to the demon.

"He grew angel wings, did he not?" The older man asked without pausing for an answer. "Then...his soul has embodied a virtue to replace the sin he released from himself...and this could only spell disaster if not handled properly."

"What is happening to him?"

"He didn't give up on life; a rarer thing than most think," The man explained. "And in doing so, unconsciously took up the mantle of a virtue, something his body wasn't made for."

The godhead's cloud floated closer to Lucifer.

"Listen to me, demon." The man's voice held no more playful disdain, but cold seriousness. "You must discover what virtue he took upon himself before he starts a plague that will spread across all three realms."

It took a moment for Lucifer to find his voice because surely he heard his Father wrong.

"What is going on?" He asked. "What will happen to my son to cause such an event?"

"He chose to live, but lacks the knowledge of for what." His Father explained. "That lack of identity will eat at him till he is a body without a soul and spreading pestilence with each breath."

The godhead clapped his hands, causing Lucifer's vision to darken.

"Help the boy find himself or kill him; it matters not to me." His Father's voice boomed with thunder. "But keep his filth away from my borders for I will not be merciful to your brat twice."

"-cifer! Lucifer!"

The man opened his eyes to find his fiancée shaking him and calling his name; he was back safely in his room, just as he was before the prayer.

The man had a lot to explain for now that she caught him in such an act.

To pray to his Father while here in the Devildom...it was a rather insulting thing to do, especially in front of the future queen; the next generation Devil, as the ruler was culturally called in this realm.

Despite his strange worry about the impropriety of the situation, his future wife cared little about it and just wanted to make sure he was alright

And get an explanation on why he spoke to such a horrible being after all of these years.

His conversation with his Father was not one he wished to repeat.

However, he was caught redhanded and Diavolo deserved some answers from him.

In a way, this was just one of many hurdles ahead of him and tomorrow, he had the biggest one of all:

Discovering his son's virtue before his soul withers away and he starts hurting others.

Imagine that Luke, after returning to the Celestial Realm, tells the angels of his age that Devildom is not so bad, that is a very different place but that it has good things and that, although there are evil demons, not all of them are like that and there are some who are incredibly kind (although he will never admit that in front of them).

His companions don't believe it, and he insists that there is a demon who helps him a lot, who makes sure that he is well, that nobody bothers him, who always accepts to do activities with him, and the best of all is that he helps him to bake and has taught him a lot of new recipes and techniques, adding that he is always patient and corrects and encourages him even if he makes mistakes.

Little Angel: *skeptical* Yes? and who could this demon be?

Luke: Barbatos.

The wing feathers of their companions snorted when they heard the name of the one who controls time, the fearsome demon who serves the prince of hell. "You're crazy", "that's a lie", the young angels couldn't believe it, and Luke didn't understand why.

Nor did he understand Barbatos' smile when he told him the story, the butler seemed very pleased.

Luke: I don't understand why they reacted like that, I know how powerfull Barbatos is, but...

Mc: *grinning* Who knows, Barbatos is a sweetheart.

Barbatos: *chuckles* It's a mystery.

What Luke didn't know is that he is one of the privileged people who had won the affection of the fearsome demon.

THINGS THAT WENT UNANSWERED AND MY THEORIES

Why is Diavolo’s dad asleep? Where is he?

• In the game he went into a deep slumber in the bottom layer of the Devildom shortly after the brothers arrived

• I believe this slumber has something to do with age, state of mind, but most importantly the brothers and their extreme power. It brought immediately destabilization of power between the realms and I believe he may have granted his powers between the brothers when he named them—thus enhancing their sins (he split them between the brothers) as a demon without serious power or sin he may be resting to restore this energy over time or to stop the power imbalance that could threaten a war with the Celestial Realm.

What was the event that made Diavolo wish for peace between the three realms?

• In season one Diavolo tells MC that long ago something made him realize that there should be peace between the three worlds. MC supporting Diavolo in the past isn’t an answer as Diavolo already had this idea before meeting them and even before meeting Lucifer.

• I believe that one of the many wars between the Devildom and Celestial Realm happened within Diavolo’s life. The horrors of war are not exclusive to humans, a young idealistic demon like Diavolo would be traumatized into ensuring nothing like this happens in the future. It is mentioned in game that it was his father who first asked for a truce between the Celestial Realm and Devildom but it’s likely Diavolo was still alive in this time period and a war could have happened before all of this.

Will Simeon become an angel again?

• In the final lesson of Nightbringer Simeon is invited back to the Celestial Realm despite previously not having even been allowed back as a guest. They want to discuss his future and Lucifer advises Simeon to have a productive talk. Raphael also mentioned in OG season four that Simeon despite being human was much better at his “job” than he used to be.

• I believe Simeon is certainly becoming an angel again. He might be lowest rank like Luke until he discovers who he is as an angel again or he may be sent back to the ranks of Archangel. I hope he stays lowest rank for a while so he can prove his worth beyond such low ranks and will no longer be stressed by busywork. I believe Raphael will also protect him more from higher ups. I think the good example Simeon set for Raphael and Luke will reflect kindly on his future and whether he can become a seraph again considering who they became under his guidance.

What is Luke’s future as an angel?

• In the game, Michael specifically took Luke under his wing because he recognized his power. Even as a child Luke was allowed to work in the Celestial Palace. Luke came into being shortly before Lucifer and his brothers fell and idolized Lucifer once. Michael sent Luke to the Devildom to learn not to be so judgmental and to face the real world. While on exchange Michael notes Luke would be a good principality while Mammon thinks he could be a seraph.

Lucifer also believes Luke has a good future ahead of him as only Luke, Lucifer, MC, Solomon, and Diavolo noticed when Simeon was no longer demonic, not even the other six rulers of hell.

• I firmly believe that Luke will become a seraph. His latent power and guidance from Simeon, Raphael, Michael, Barbatos, and Lucifer leaves him as very open minded but firm in his convictions and morality. The timing of his birth being right before Lucifer fell leads me to believe he was created as a replacement for Lucifer and that he will take Lucifer’s place one day to lead the Celestial Realm alongside Michael.

Will Michael join the exchange program?

• In the game Michael hinted to Raphael that he wanted to and Diavolo also wondered if Michael might join one day. The others seem to believe it would be too much a hassle.

• I think Michael is the kind of person who would but wouldn’t do so normally. Maybe a very short exchange so he doesn’t stay away from the Celestial Realm for long. I also believe his presence would cause unrest in the Devildom which he may view as hostile towards the Celestial Realm. This is a great plot point I would have loved to see, especially with Barbatos and Solomon both worrying about war in the future as well as MC’s alliances.

Will there be another war between the realms?

• In Nightbringer it was hinted that things were getting more tense as more demons were trying to disrupt the exchange program and bring harm to the students. It’s also revealed that to have sent Lucifer to Cocytus the celestial realm also had to agree meaning there are also angels who strongly oppose the three worlds as coming together as both sides hold resentment for past wars and see the others as unable to change for the better.

• I believe that in the future there will almost be a war, but Diavolo will be able to prove how strong their bonds can be with MC as a prime example. MC has a connection to each realm, granting them a power so strong they need the ring to contain it which Simeon gave them and Michael allowed. The brothers and angels and others have consistently saved each other’s lives, seen past former beliefs and even a demon like Mephisto and an angel like Raphael, two people extremely loyal to their realms were able to become good friends. I believe Diavolo would use a memory ring or other power to display the greatest most significant moments between them as proof his dream can become reality or at the very least they can remain at peace.

Who is Nightbringer?

• The game more or less confirms it to be Barbatos with the teaser for the game as well as how Nightbringer and his abilities are described. Nightbringer also speaks to Solomon with the same annoyance as Barbatos.

• I firmly believe that Nightbringer is Barbatos. Barbatos brought MC to the past, disrupting the timelines and I believe this is why Diavolo asks Barbatos to never use these powers without his permission.

What happened to Solomon’s childhood friend?

• The game indirectly tells us what happens over several seasons. Solomon is said to have e summoned Barbatos at the risk of his own life as a child desperately seeking to use Barbatos’s power of time. At the time he was not the kind of person obsessed with knowledge and power but was granted power seen as cursed that led him to be hidden in a basement away from everyone but this one friend.

• I believe his friend died whether it was his powers at fault or not and he summoned Barbatos to revive his friend. It’s possible his friend died of natural causes and this is why Solomon wants to better the human world despite it turning his back on him; it’s all so children and humans in general don’t die of preventable things like his friend did.

What did the Little D.s mean when they said they’d take over the Devildom?

• In season two of Nightbringer the Little D,s laugh about taking over the castle and soon the whole Devildom.

• I think they believe they can overcome their counterparts, or at least they used to, and wanted all the power for themselves. I think after thousands of years they gave up on this idea.

Who in the Devildom betrayed Diavolo and had Lucifer sent to Cocytus? And who in the Celestial Realm agreed?

• In the game Diavolo was never able to find the results but in the modern timeline the House of Lords remains a hinderance to Diavolo’s ideas of peace between realms despite the successes he has had thus far. When Raphael asked around in the Celestial Realm he never got an answer despite being a seraph and it’s hinted that they probably know who it is among the higher ups but won’t share that information.

• I believe someone in the Celestial Realm reached out to demons they knew opposed Lucifer and not the other way around. The Celestial Realm is always in the Devildom’s business so must have known about the unrest and helped arrange Lucifer’s imprisonment in Cocytus, then sent an angel closest to him, Raphael, to read his charges as punishment to Lucifer (seeing how it affected his friends) and punishment to Raphael (for still having such a close bond with a traitor.)

Why is Barbatos forbidden from using his powers?

• In the game Barbatos is mentioned to not be able to use his powers without Diavolo’s permission on several occasions. No specific reason is given.

• I believe that when Barbatos (as Nightbringer) brought MC to the past, Diavolo at some point found out he’d caused a destabilization of their reality (but not exactly what it was he did) and ordered him not to use his powers.

Will the others ever find out about the time travel?

• In the final season Solomon tells MC that eventually they won’t be able to play off the brothers’ memories of MC in the past anymore. Barbatos is already aware of the time travel.

• I believe it will come out at some point for sure. They will remember more or come across concrete proof MC was actually there with them.

Why did Nightbringer take MC to the past?

• In the game the denkn claims it’s because it is where MC will find happiness.

• I believe that Nightbringer (Barbatos) lived in a reality much darker and bleaker than ours. I believe the brothers trapped in Cocytus triggered some kind of war or prevented Diavolo from fulfilling his dream so he used his abilities to find a way to correct it.

He sent you into the past before you became an exchange student with visions of the future he saw would happen if he brought you there to help the brothers.

Eventually you were selected as an exchange in the future, fulfilling the visions Barbatos foresaw. This part is tricky to understand but by Barbatos describes time as a thick heavy mud or soup and I believe he sees time running concurrently so even though your future hadn’t yet happened, somebody from that future was able to come help you in the past, Solomon.

It’s hard to explain but time sort of did a loop, MC of the OG was sent into the past to create the future they live in. This means at some point MC was in a very different future and knew a different and worse version of the brothers but their memories of them altered into the happy ones they would make as they changed the past—changing the future into a good one. I don’t have the IQ to explain beyond that, I tried and got lost.

sometimes you look at satan and think of lucifer. of course you keep it for yourself, you're wise enough to know that even when he's not mad at you but it definitely makes him uncomfortable. but sometimes, you mean it, only a few times in the span of many years you've known him, you look at him and his face, his expression, even his nose and his smile, his action, his attitude surprise you how similar he is to his father (can you say that? you always feel like this word is such a sensitive topic). you start noticing the similarity between those two and also the difference.

like how satan chuckles often than only smile when he reads and he's usually too excited to show you whatever intrigues him from the book.

like how satan's eyes are not that sharp, unlike lucifer's. satan's eyes are always smiling. if you remember correctly. he may say that is because he's a demon and he need to deceive others but maybe he's just a kind soul.

like how satan doesn't have wrinkles on the corner of his eyes and he doesn't frown that much. always keep his best composure. always acts polite. he can't afford to let people think he's rude since he need to surpass lucifer in everything.

like how satan's expression is always more gentle...more soft...and you look at him and you know that he was raised in love. in love. in love. the way he looks at little animal, the way he looks at his brothers while they're doing something silly. the way he focuses on the books, on the lessons,...the way he treats everything with such sincerity like they all have souls. you wonder if levi's the one who taught him how to take care for little animals, if mammon's the one who taught him you need to treat everyone equally, if asmo taught him to appreciate the beauty in even the smallest thing, if beel and belphie taught him to create a special bond with people is nice.

satan and lucifer, they shares some habits too. the first thing they do when they walk through the door is organize all the jackets and coats on the hanger, then they go to the kitchen and make something for themselves (but satan likes to make a cup of latte and lucifer likes hell coffee or tea which he was gifted by his beloved)- and for beel who's already there. they're gonna complain about something, then go to the library to take a look. arrage the misplaced books, sweep a little bit then take a sit and wait for their brothers to come home and complain again about the noise (everyone knows that they love being around their family and to proud to admit that they enjoy all the problem they cause). they don't do all of that together. never. satan takes after lucifer, you're kind of sure of it after spending years and years watching them, many things. you never tell him.

sometimes you look at satan and wonder how many things he takes after his brothers, his family. how many things he takes after love.

Thinking about how Diavolo’s feelings transcend time and how in the Nightbringer UR+ card Demon Lord’s Castle Tour this conversation happens.

When asked, “Do you wish to see your father?”

Diavolo responds:

“I suppose I do . . .” isn’t the typical reaction to how a child would feel about wanting to see their parent. Especially when said parent has essentially been in a coma for a year.

Along with how Diavolo describe his father.

It makes more sense why when you learn in Lesson 56 how Diavolo was treated by him growing up.

Diavolo can tell when others are lying but is unable to understand his father’s intentions.

Diavolo mentions that he lived a very sheltered life growing up. That from a young age his father never allowed him a chance to talk to anyone outside the castle.

His childhood friend was Mephistopheles. A demon literally RAISED to be his friend. Putting a barrier between the two because Mephistopheles would put Diavolo on a pedestal.

The isolating childhood he experienced riddled with his strict father constantly scolding him.

Despite everything MC is so important to him he wants to see his father again so we can meet.
