i saw one of these a while back that was just vampire vs werewolf but personally i find such a dichotomy limiting. i said “regardless of what they actually are” because like. if the only characters in a story are vampires or aliens they’re not necessarily all gonna be vampire or alien coded, you know?

Ok but imagine: a fishing game except it's horror. You fish off the coast of a nuclear testing site and everything you catch is increasing flavors of mutated abomination. You fish at the site of a meteor impact and keep catching strange looking fish that are definitely not from Earth. The open ocean is full of deep-sea fish that absolutely should not be within fishing distance of the surface - they are fleeing Something in the deeps.

The game revolves around you catching these increasingly strange and disturbing fish while the game itself treats this all as totally normal. Why you're fishing at these incredibly strange sites is never addressed; you're no researcher, you're just presented as a normal fisherman. It's implied that the world is creeping closer and closer to an apocalypse as you play but there's nothing you can do about it but fish.

Imagine: Michael as a demon, freshly-fallen, lashing out in desperation. Blaming everyone else for his fall. Lucifer, that stupid demon prince, MC, the exchange program, everyone. NB S2 finale Lucifer level tantrum, destroying things with his newly-demonic wings. Bargaining stage of grief is heavy - demanding someone, anyone, find a way to change him back, even though he knows it shouldn't be possible. There are tears in his eyes.

Lucifer looking on silently. He should get some gratification from this, from seeing Michael unable to handle what he himself dished out. It should have been poetic, satisfying. But all he feels is pity.
