I assume you mean Rachel Goldman, as she's the only Rachel I really talk about, so here goes.

1. Why do you like or dislike this character?

Well at risk of sounding basic, Rachel gets some of the most screentime of the DV8 cast, and is co-leader with Leon Carver. Also, I really like the trio of her, Leon, and Gem.

3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?

Is it a cop-out if I say I think she wasn't done justice by the writers? Because that's sort of what I think about everybody and everything in DV8...

10. Could you be best friends with this character?

Probably not. We have very different interests and, like most of the DV8 cast, Rachel can be difficult to get along with-- this is one of the most appealing things about the series to me, the idea that abused children can be, well, pretty shitty, and that in no way invalidates the fact there is nothing anybody (let alone a child) can do to justify receiving abuse, and also that no matter how rude or unpleasant an abused child is, or how much they lash out, they are still fundamentally deserving of help.

14. Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character.

Man I don't fucking know. One time we see her in what I can only describe as a Lolita maid costume with minor heart motifs, but that is nowhere near in line with what she usually wears, which is like. Extremely peak y2k fashion (trendy for the time she was being published).

Well I mean I guess y2k then, though to me this indicates more that Rachel tends to dress in a trendy, currently-fashionable way-- I don't think she would wear that in a modern setting. She definitely cares about her appearance (she's the only character I can remember who is shown with multiple hairstyles, from it being down to in a ponytail to in a bun-- even the hair accessories change at times), which combined with her wearing clothes that were fashionable at the time of her original publication, makes me think she would dress in whatever's currently in-style.

18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?

I don't think "admire" is the right word but I like her and Leon :) they're cute

20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?

I don't knowwww... Like I said, I really like the trio of her, Leon, and Gem, but none of them fit the role of "best friend" really-- Leon is her partner (however that's being defined), and Gem is significantly younger than both of them, meaning she's not exactly best friend material (but Gem would probably describe Leon as her best friend).

Other than those two there's Jocelyn, I guess, but I don't remember them exactly being besties and it's pretty telling that she fucked off to do her own thing after DV8 split up. Then there's Geneveive, but we don't see a lot of her and Rachel because Gen-Active got cancelled and their relationship is probably more them figuring out what level of parental they're both okay with.

i think honestly what irritates me about yoshidas work SO much is that people will tell you that banana fish is THE gay manga (ignoring the many things that came before it and were more groundbreaking, ie MW literally having on screen (or like. on panel but still.) gay sex in it and that came out like a decade before BF did) when there really isn't barely any gay rep outside of the pedophiles and the one time ash drops the f slur. like im sorry but somehow yasha, a work she wrote in 1996, has more gay rep in it but also has the same issues.

i truly do not get how people can enjoy banana fish with the rampant racism every 2 pages or the rampant sexual assault plotlines (on women and ash bc he is just... written like how yoshida writes women lmao) that are handled IMPOSSIBLY bad and sincerely i hoped yasha would be better because it had been like a decade or so between works. and then it proceeds to continue with the heres our blonde genius protagonist who everyone is weird as fuck to and will sexually harrass and everyone finds it a VERY funny joke to point out how feminine he is when theres barely any women in the work (if you exclude the ones that are being raped/killed/creepy to minors. which to be fair yasha has toned down the sa a LOT) and that its funny that hes kind of gay except not really!! and its just absurd to me how it just persists in all of her stuff because she is not an author that handles gay stuff well. like the scene in banana fish where ash is completely ok getting gang raped and did it solely to get into the hospital when its been SHOWN that he has a lot of trauma with that. and then right after his friend makes a joke at ash's expense about that. like sincerely and genuinely is this what we are hyping up as the old retro gay manga. go read some tezuka and stop reading shit that the most the main characters do is share a kiss in a nonromantic sense and is obsessed w making every gay person be evil!!

everytime i actually open up sdv to play i get flashbanged with sebastian's white ass sprites because i always forget not everyone sees him as wasian💔 my current hc for him is half chinese (liable to change... but ik for sure he's half asian) but he is Not bilingual he can't rly speak or write the other language he can only understand it when listening but even then he's not very fluent LOL this is just turning into a sebastian hc post might as well go full out. to me sebastian Does have relationship experience but has been thru shitty ones in the past which is part of the reason why he's so pessimistic & brooding </3 and he'd hook up with ppl in zuzu city for a night for a while but it just made him feel shittier so he's stopped since ☝️ also people make him out to be way cooler than he actually is like yea sure he's kinda cool but he's also a Massive Loser especially when he tells you how he hates "seasonal fads" like pumpkin spice and that one line about the potluck soup where he's like "Why ruin the potluck? feeling very "oh no! anyway" rn but i hope to get around. i just had an overall shitty day i guess (or at least "mid" to shitty) and i kept getting taken out of the immersion by little kids yaping away (and their parents not stopping them) and the godawful dub plus i had extremely low blood pressure again so it was just like looking at a powerpoint presentation of someone badly explaining the movie while the fandubs were playing in the back of my head (second half/ending of the movie was just "THATS RIGHT YOU UGLY LITTLE GIRL" and "tire tire tire tire tire")

It definitely made my day as a nonbinary person! Also feel free to ignore this question, but is pentolite supposed to have master saturation: -70 written under step 2 and 6? They aren’t hue/sat layers so I wanted to ask about it but idk what your policy on asking about specific color actions are. Thanks!

Yes those steps are correct, it's the duplicated Background layer than should be desaturated by -70. Here's the layers as they appear in Photoshop:

So Background copy, Background copy 2 and Background copy 3 are all copies of the Background layer but desaturated by -70 using the Hue/Sat tool, which you can do with Ctrl+U or by going to the "Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation..." menu. This will edit the layer itself without making a new adjustment layer on top of it, so that the desaturation only affects the individual layer, not all layers beneath it.

It's an extremely old trick circa 2005 Livejournal icon-making to copy and desaturate your base and then set the layer mode to Soft Light to increase the contrast of the image without intensifying too much of the original base colors. There are a thousand better ways to accomplish this effect, but I am a dinosaur.
