911 Season 8 Wishlist

-Eddie has to come out immediately. It’s gone on long enough, let this man out of the closet. I think he’s gay and demi but I’m not too fussed on what label he is given in the show, we know that he definitely isn’t straight.

-Since Tim Tam is unfortunately still confirmed to be dating Buck, I want them to have a messy breakup. Trolley is acting like an ass constantly. For example, when Buck vents to him about Gerrard, Temu says, “You’ll just have to deal with it” or “Get used to it like I did” which enrages Buck. Everything Tablecloth does enrages Buck, from the way he chews his food, to him constantly calling him Evan. Eventually Buck has had enough and just goes off on Tic Tac and when Tetris says, “But Evan..” Buck will scream, “Stop calling me Evan! My name is Buck.” Then Buck dumps him.

-Contrast all of temu’s sins with Eddie being just who Buck needs for the full rom-com effect and boom we have buddie canon. Let me just say, if they’re making buddie canon, this has to be the season to do it because they’re not on Fox anymore and this not a shortened transitional season like season 7.

-Hen, Karen,Maddie,Chimney, Eddie,Bobby,Athena and Josh all hate Tommy.

-Chris and Eddie reconcile (of course) but I don’t necessarily want it to be a long process of Eddie having to earn Chris’ trust. I think that Chris will eventually understand why Eddie did what he did and realize that parents aren’t infallible and can make really stupid mistakes that unintentionally hurt others especially since he is at the age where kids have that realization about their parents. This and Chris and Eddie having a heart-to-heart about their grief over Shannon will lead to Chris forgiving Eddie. I think that it’ll take time for their relationship to heal but they’ll be stronger than ever eventually.

-Hen and Athena go undercover and find out that Councilwoman Ortiz is responsible for a lot of corrupt cases in the government and that she was the one who got Gerrard reinstated as Captain of the 118. Hen and Athena expose her and she and Gerrard both get fired. This allows Bobby to get reinstated as Captain of the 118 at the end of the 3 part premiere.

-Continuing off of the last point, Mara goes back to Hen and Karen at the end of the three part premiere and their adoption gets approved. After Mara adjusts, I’m hoping we’ll get to see her be more comfortable in the Wilson household and not get uprooted again.

-According to the preview, Madney are apparently considering having adding to their family. I think it’ll be interesting if they choose to adopt because I don’t think Maddie would want to go through another pregnancy or maybe they decide that they are happy as a family of three.

-More May, more Ravi and have more May and Ravi interactions. It’s a crime that they are not friends.

-Buck getting flustered over Eddie’s mustache and jealous Buck. I could see a scenario where Eddie starts going to queer events and making more queer friends. Eddie is chatting with one of his male friends and Buck mistakenly thinks they’re dating and gets really jealous.

-Bobby and Athena’s plots seem the most interesting to me, so I will be seated. I’m curious on who the person from Athena’s past will be, I’m going to throw my hat in the ring and say it’ll be her late fiancé’s mother?

Cinder's Perspective-

"Stars above, I'm so full," Thorne groaned, stretching his legs to pop the joints that had been sitting for a while now. 

"For once I agree, it was a lovely meal," Scarlet adds in praise.

Cinder and Julian murmur their thanks, both quite pleased with the work they had done. Julian grins at her and mouths a 'told you so' making Cinder roll her eyes. She had freaked over making dinner at such short notice for all of them, Julian had assured her on multiple accounts but it was unheard of. Cinder wasn't necessarily great in the kitchen, more times than not she broke dishes and glassware unknowingly. Her metal hand held the containers too tightly, resulting in cracks that made the container and food stored within discard-worthy.

"I'd get this cleaned. You spend time with them," Julian told her as he collected the used cutlery. 

"You don't have to. Let me help you, I'll spend time with them later. Besides all of them are staying for a while." She argued back, removing the leftovers in small containers. They might reheat it and consume it tomorrow. Julian always said that "leftovers taste the best" to which she begrudgingly agreed.

"Love, if the signs are right, Thorne would be out before we are done. So go, I have this covered," he said nudging her out of the kitchen. She goes on her toes and kisses him, giving in to his requests as she mumbles an 'I love you', a sense of happiness setting over as she joins the most reckless people she has come to love. 

"Would you guys like to do something?" She asked, they had some board games from Julian's childhood in the basement. It could be fun to play them with a large crowd, she thought. 

"Cinny, I'd love to join you, but I have eaten enough to sleep for days. You guys continue without me," Scarlet admits, Cinder chuckles softly, hugging Scarlet through her large belly. She shows Wolf and Scarlet to the guest room.

As she walks down, she thinks how not many would be eager to play a competitive game on the heavy meal they had had. She is surprised to see the crowd she returns to, Cress and Iko are glued to the screen watching some romcom. Jacin and Winter are nowhere to be seen, so she assumes they have decided to call it a night too. 

Thorne is sprawled on the couch from where he calls her, "I'd- well I wanted to talk about something." 

Cinder's interest peaks as she joins him on the couch, forcing him to sit to make room for her. 

"Go on," she tells him, Thorne glances at his wife and Iko sitting on the thick carpet and towards the kitchen before saying, "Maybe somewhere alone."

This alarms Cinder, she is on her feet in an instance suggesting if the backyard is good enough. Thorne nods as he follows her out through the back door. The chill of a November night stills them, the icy breeze blowing in their face.

"Do you want to go out in the cold?" 

"Not the worst I have faced," Thorne addresses, passing her as he walks barefoot on the lawn. The dew on the grass blades feels cool against her skin, the moisture sipping through.

"What's this about?" She asks, diving straight into the topic. She wasn't the one to beat around the bush, her nerves couldn't support the anticipation. She skimmed through the chats they had had in the recent week, trying to find something that Thorne might have dropped that reflected something being out of place.

"I don't even know if this concerns you—" Thorne says, Cinder cuts him off, "—Thorne put it in words, you are making me worried sick."

"I have got an invitation," he says at last shoving his hand into pockets. He stares into the night sky, the darkness against the twinkling lights of multi-storey buildings. The moon shining bright above, Cinder looks at it thinking of old times. Luna and her once-last lifetime there. 

"That's all?" She asks exasperated. Unable to fathom how a single invitation has got Thorne so troubled. He fails to answer her prior question so she continues," From who? Your Parents? But- you mentioned that you cut ties with-" 

"It was from Kai," he snaps, stopping her from bringing up his parents. 

Kai. Stars.

She is shocked over what to say, so she silently stares ahead at the city lights spread around her house. When the initial shock had calmed, she asked, "What does it say?" 

"He invited me and Cress, well, to the New Year's Dinner. He says 'It's for the old time's sake'." Thorne described, his voice dulling out on nostalgia.

Cinder isn't able to express her surprise in words. 'For old times sake' was such a cliche phrase but it was just like Kai to use it to make a point across. She shouldn't have expected any less, he was a born diplomat.

The last time they had spent New Year's together felt like ages ago, it was ages ago- when they were still dating. It was Cinder and Kai and everyone and not whatever else this has become. 

Cinder had last seen Kai at an event when she was required to be present as ex-Lunar Queen for the Intergalactic Peace Treaty modifications. Then, she had been like a stranger to him, she couldn't recall if they had exchanged formalities, if she had even been in the same room with him.

"And what did you reply?" She asked trying to keep the conversation going so her mind won't betray her. 

"I'm here to ask you that," he says, causing Cinder to spin around. 

"The New Year's in 4 days and you haven't replied yet?!" She almost yells, forcing herself to keep her tone in check. She doesn't need anyone to know she is talking about Kai in her backyard while her husband washes dishes.

"Cinder, things didn't end on the best of notes. For fucks sake, I'm sure he believes I'd decline the invite. He said 'I understand if you have plans made and can't make it'- It's like he knows I'd decline." Thorne points out, his frustration clearly showing. 

Cinder does seem to forget that her breakup with Kai resulted in a lot of things ending on bitter notes. Especially for Kai.

She hates to look at it this way but it felt like she stole Kai's friends from him. Julian always said that Kai didn't put the effort to be friends with the crew afterwards and she shouldn't blame herself for that but Julian didn't know Kai like she did. Kai willingly stopped putting in the effort because he believed he wasn't entitled to their friendship- unlike Cinder.

She knew how he had sent gifts for Winter and Jacin on their wedding day, choosing to not attend the small ceremony for personal reasons. Iko who was still part of the Lunar administration often came across Kai, she never brought it up to Cinder but knew the friendship was civil for the two. He let all of them go along with Cinder, those years ago. 

"Are you willing to go?" She asks, her voice calmer this time, curls around in one of the outside chairs. Thorne joins hers, putting his legs on the hardwood of her coffee table. 

"Yes," he admits, now staring at her. Cinder already knew the answer yet something deep inside her hoped for a different one.

"Why?"

"Cinder," Thorne sighs, his hand pulling at his face before he continues, "All those years ago I chose you and I don't regret it. I love you but I loved Kai too. You got everyone out of the relationships but Kai didn't get anyone. It is foolish to think that one feels not guilty for not being there for a friend."

Cinder continues to remain silent, she knows after the revolution Thorne had spent a lot of his time at the Commonwealth. So much so that it was clear, he and Kai were better friends than them. The break-up took a lot from Kai- friendship with Thorne being one of them. Thorne's words had opened up some wounds she liked to keep unattended. The guilt encompassed her being like always when Kai was brought up in conversation. 

Realizing his misstep, Thorne pulls her chair towards him, "I'm not blaming you, Cinder but I want to give Kai a chance. I promise I won't bring you up with him or him anywhere near you. It's just- his invite reminded me of the 19-year-old lost boy without friends and it broke my heart. I want to be there for his happiness and sadness like I was for yours. Like he was for mine."

She understands where he is coming from. Thorne and Kai had clicked after the revolution, one might have taken them to be brothers. Kai had helped Cress and Thorne transition into a settled life from their nomadic ways. Thorne wasn't much help when Kai needed it.

"Ok," she nods in approval. Thorne seems to not hear it, so he makes her repeat it.

"I don't mind if you visit Kai for New Year's," she says louder. He whispers a thanks, Cinder isn't sure what for.

"Do you think the others are invited too?" She asked, curiosity getting the better of her- if she would be having the same conversation with the others in the morning, the least would be to be prepared to talk about The Emperor who still unnerve her. 

"I don't think so, he seemed hesitant to ask me. Can't imagine him asking everyone else," he wondered. 

Cinder glances towards the door, Julian's working under the white light of the kitchen. Still doing dishes probably. She remembers her life as a mechanic a lifetime ago. Julian looks up through the window and catches her staring at him, he winks at her. She attempts to smile at him, but it's too dark for him to notice the smile lines not forming. 

"Do you think it will be awkward?" 

"Hell lot," Thorne laughs, "I don't know what to get him. Cress might know of something. It's been years since we last talked, it's going to be so weird." 

She recoils on the inside but meeting Kai is Thorne's problem and she won't ponder it. Pulling her knees to her chest to bring herself some warmth, she says, "Thank you for choosing me." 

"Cinder," he reprimands "It was my choice." Hearing his words, the conviction with which he says them, she smiles, sadness lingering. She curls in his side, head laid on his shoulder. They sit like that, lost in their own regrets and maybes. 

"Do you ever think about maybe?"

A chuckle blooms through her lips unknowingly, she had thought about it so much- how she hadn't tried enough, how Kai wasn't cooperating, how she should have been closer, given up the crown sooner. It took a while to come to the realisation that they were doomed from the beginning. They never really stood a chance. 

"Sometimes that's all I can think of," she admits softly in the dark, her words uttered more for herself than for Thorne.

Cinder had moved on from her relationship with Kai for some time now, she was married to Julian, someone she loved very dearly. More than Kai too. But Kai had seen something in her when no one wanted to look at Cinder.

When someone gives you that much attention and becomes a reason behind all your actions or habits, it's difficult to move past that without acknowledging how much they matter. Kai was that person to her.

Kai was no longer a lover but someone who would always be her well-wisher, no matter how harsh she might have been on him. It was just something he would always be, an admirable guy.

"It's strange how you guys were the ones that got everyone together only for you to not make it," he said, satire hitting every word. 

Cinders overlooks the comment, "You should get him fondo from the place near your house. The one where you proposed Cress. He used to love it back then, might as well like it now," she suggests instead. 

Thorne nods in acknowledgement and pats her head as he stands, "I'd take them along. Why don't we have some hot chocolate? It's getting cold out here- Julian bragged how he made the best ones! I'd like to taste them!" 

"Oh, he absolutely does. We might have marshmallows to top it," she says, and seeing how Thorne continued to stand still, yells, "C'mon, hurry up! Think Julian might not be too tired to make it."

Thorne laughs, "He had made it for you even if he was asleep." 

And as Thorne had mentioned, Julian does.

some of my ramblings about doied are mainly the fact that i still can't understand what was the intention behind making him exist. like, i still don't understand the reasons for making him part of the story in this way, the way it happened and also why it happened like that?

[since it's almost going to 7am i feel like i should make it clear tone indicator /lighthearted i feel like it might sounds like i'm complaining but i'm just intrigued haushaksh]

at first doied was like a way q!roier talked when he said a fact or seemed nerdy kinda things like that and then it seemed to go a little bit the way of alter egos? Perhaps, i even remember that once it generated many theories involving dissociative identity disorder (DID ... i think that's how it's said in english, sorry if i'm wrong) because q!roier had already talked about hearing voices in his head that weren't his (it wasn't something related to the chat) and that sometimes he felt disconnected from reality. i personally didn't follow this theory much because it can be a sensitive topic to address and doing something insensitive that could be offensive is not a good thing to do. which makes me wonder, could it be that at some point cc!roier thought about making a plot related to this but to avoid any kind of misinformation or insensitivity towards the topic, maybe he decided to change it or was that never the initial intention? i personally believed more in the point of view that q!roier has several ways of expressing himself, whether through alter egos that are not necessarily DID but just that he uses other names to refer to himself when he wants to express/present himself in another way, almost like the way many artists do, i even have a distant memory where he talks about melissa and doied to q!jaiden and he even changes his voice and makes body expressions and it's good to remember that q!roier dressed up as melissa it was part of his plan involving the begining of his lore, so melissa is q!roier we saw it. so i always thought, ok... melissa and doied are part of who q!roier is, right? .......

i was completely lost when it was confirmed that doied is a person apart from q!roier. i still feel like i'm in the denial stage to be honest XD there are so many questions i don't even know where to start. but with sleep reaching my brain i'm just wondering if cc!roier considered the impact that turning doied into a canon character had? and not only that but the way the character was introduced and the path chosen as well. like, he does the "doied voice" since the beginning, it's often something out of roleplay, it's a recurring joke but now that doied is a real character who is apparently q!roier's twin brother? and that he switched bodies with q!roier ?!?! everything is different now!!*

and especially from the public eye, this is something i noticed a lot: the confusion in understanding whether something was being done and said with intention and reason, or not. when you follow a character like q!roier who is a character where you can't judge the book by its cover, you're aware that cc!roier has always been attentive to doing roleplay in a way that is subtle but always with intentions behind it that often surprises even those who watch, from using the camera to show the change of expressions after saying something super happy and remain super serious, demonstrating false feelings, doing something good and then saying that it was just a preparation for when the betrayal happens it will be more painful, talking about killing everyone who gets in the way and then recommending acting with the others as if nothing had happened and pretending to be happy... and many other examples. q!roier keeps a lot of information, he is very observant and can pretend and manipulate very well. including something that happened after the body swap with doied that gave me emotional damage, it was when after sending a cute message to q!cellbit, doied said out loud that it was working, "he's falling for it" that caught me so off guard but i also saw the reaction of many people who had also completely forgotten that it wasn't q!roier and this just shows that cc!roier is aware of what he decided to do with the story and he remembers his decisions with his characters. SO THAT'S THE POINT. we know what he's capable of and how subtly he roleplays. so it's agonizing to see things and think "was that intentional?" and not knowing if they were or not, but i also think that this even helps with theorizing and analyzing, which is a fun part of entertainment.

*but when i say that everything is different now, it's that by transforming something that was usually just used as something fun momentarily into a real and unique character who, to complicate everything, is pretending to be his twin brother is WILD. that's crazy. and even had a body swap!!! so now even in moments that it's obvious that it's not something within roleplay people go "OMG DOIED?!" and when i talk about moments that are > obviously outside of roleplay < it's like when cc!roier was telling about his trip to cc!quackity and there were questions "is this still doied or is this out of lore?" or when cc!roier was alone building with cc!rivers and he spoke in doied's voice and she called him doied because it's a thing they do and people freaked out and were surprised, acting suspicious and stuff like that and sometimes it may seem too much but still, there are also big impacts like, what will it mean in the future? at what moments will really doied become careless and talk as used to? when will intentions become ambiguous? are people to blame for doubting and suspecting when the lore revolves around discovering that a character is pretending to be someone they're not? and the questions remain as to why q!roier spoke like that before and "behaved like doied"? what are the implications of this? how was this possible? why how when what huh??!?!!

i think the only way to stop how triggering that will be to see cc!roier talking like doied after going back to roleplay as q!roier is if doied dies HAJDJDHSK because i swear every time he does the voice i remember everything and i'm one step away from becoming the joker bring back q!roier he's still a rat what the actual fuck

but with that being said i trust in what cc!roier intends to do, from the beginning he's been interested in creating lore and continuing to follow the story he wants to do and it's good that he's doing what he wants, i'm curious to see where this all goes i just hope it ends with a happy ending because i can't stand being sleepless writing about how this character disturbs my brain im so tired get him out of my mind please what am i doing with my life.

hiiii moya!!!! Tell us about your favorite detail that youve snuck into any of your fics!! Any detail, big or small!!!

Oh man. Thank you for the ask, Tobi!!! You basically gave me a free ticket to talk about Anything I Want, and I have so many things I could chat about kegmrkemkg It's hard to pick out one detail or another because I tend to like a lot of what I write (it's catered to Me, after all), so I shall. Ramble under a read more, if that's okay lol.

OKAY SO. First thought was. How demons, specially Vash in the demon AU, work--because demon slayer canon has very strict rules on how thing works, but it doesn't often explain why things work the way they do. Which gives me a lot of room to be kind of hand-wavy with canon. (And I'm going to preface this that this is a lot of speculation for the AU and not necessarily reflective of canon in demon slayer rkengjrkengjrkeng.)

I also can't guarantee there won't be lore spoilers here (for both the fic/AU and the source), so read at your own risk!

But basically demonism was invented on accident in an attempt to cure a terminal illness, and it basically gives someone Immortality At A Cost. I think it functions sort of like a virus. Getting exposed to the blood of a demon will infect a human into become a demon, but "viral load" is important--the amount of "demon infection" determines if a demon can turn a human in the first place, and that depends on how diluted the demon's blood is from the original source. Too far, and they can't turn humans. Conversely, if a human gets Too Much demon blood at once and too much from the original source, their body changes too rapidly for it to handle, and they die instead of turning. Technically speaking, the same thing can happen to demons, too.

But all that to say, the main thing that demonism boils down to is rapid change of the body. Got cancer? Becoming a demon sure can cure that, just change faster than the cancer. Got a limb torn off? Let's just grow that right back. Need to develop supernatural powers or senses? Sure thing, buddy.

Demonism allows demons to change rapidly, but they also Need Humans to survive and have to avoid sunlight--obviously from a literary standpoint this is because they're meant to resemble western vampires, but from a functional standpoint? Sunlight I would guess is probably a glitch of rapid change? Like, when you implement coding too quickly, there are bound to be errors. If you force the body to change rapidly, like when it's converted from human to demon, then the weakness to sunlight might be an "error" in the biological code of the original demon that was then passed on to all subsequent demons, since they all came from the same source.

Feeding on humans, though? The implication I've always seen is that animal meat doesn't do it, and rotten flesh isn't as nutritional, either. So there's something about live humans that demons Need to consume to survive and grow their strength--demons can cannibalize one another, but I think they more or less just can steal traits from one another in those cases, and it's less about needing to eat then and more about assuming a trait another demon has developed through rapid change instead of taking the time to develop it oneself. We don't see demon animals, so I think it has something to do with the fact that only humans can become demons--demons can also only feed on humans, in return, so it might have something to do with the demon cells themselves running out of human cells to feed on in their host (i.e., the demon) and needing more to produce that rapid change we see them do.

Alright, but what happens when you deprive a demon of human flesh and blood? Obviously, it doesn't kill them (as we see with Nezuko in demon slayer canon). So it won't kill Vash now that he's decided not to have Anything, but then, how does he avoid the whole "going feral and attacking people anyway" thing?

Well, there is a procedure in demon slayer canon that reduces a demon's dependence on blood--this is not explained at all in canon, but I explained it by the use of introducing "antibodies" or a demon vaccination. These are demon cells that don't act fully like demon cells anymore--they were once demon cells that have changed to the point that, if introduced into a demon, it mitigates some of the impact of regular demon cells and thus lessen the symptoms of demonism (a.k.a., needing to eat people).

How did these cells come about? Well, through that rapid change of course--you'd just need a demon willing to change their cells and body in such a way as to mitigate some of the effects of the demon cells, and in this case. This is difficult in this case, I think, because to get cells that need less flesh/blood, these would need to be cells that haven't been given their "fuel" for rapid change and been forced to adapt without it. Basically, you'd need a demon willing to abstain from eating for a long time, if you see where I'm going with this.

In Nezuko's case, since she Never Ate Anyone Ever, I think her change under this theory would be forced from the fact that she never let her cells have anything to begin with. The change happened over a few years, because she Had To and she dedicated pretty much all of her energy to it. No speaking, no hard cognitive tasks, only occasional fighting and Blood Demon Art usage--she mostly just slept and only intervened in events when her brother was in danger, for the most part.

For Vash? The change would be a lot slower and a lot harder, because he has eaten at least one person, on top of having been fed blood/flesh (willingly or unwillingly) throughout his life. He also prioritizes keeping his mind sound and with it, and maintains his ability to speak and interact normally (most of the time). He also expends energy fighting, healing, and through his Blood Demon Art. So he's diversifying a bit more, and had less of a jump off point, so it'd take him much longer to get the same results. That being said, it's still definitely possible for him to get what he wants--a body not as reliant on blood or flesh (though he is still technically denying his body something it needs, it just needs less over time as his body starts working with him).

And hey, if demons can change to need less blood... Well, who's to say they can't change in other ways, too?

ANYWAY. Demon lore surrounding Vash in Make it to Daybreak is. Very fun to talk about. Everything above is all stuff that's been vaguely hinted at but not laid out plainly like this, but I think it'll give the non-demon slayer readers more of an edge guessing upcoming developments that demon slayer readers will already have lol. Plus it's just fun to fill in the holes on demon slayer lore with stuff that sounds neat to me.

Definitely That Night 🫣 It’s the first fic I wrote (recently-ish) so I feel like my writing is a little rougher in that fic. Also it’s got absolutely ZERO plot and is just about getting fucked by 3 anime guys 😫

✅What’s something that appears in your fics over and over again, even if you don’t mean it to?

Because I write fics about Reader sleeping w multiple people, I often talk about how a character kisses in comparison to another character 💀

so like “x’s kisses are soft and slow while y kisses with passion and intensity” or something like that. if i catch it when i’m editing i take it out now lol but i think it’s in at least 3 of my currently published fics

acts of service is his love language for sure 🥺 i feel like he struggles to express his feelings with words or even affection, but he’ll make you tea if you’re not feeling well or clean up the house for you to lighten your workload if you’ve had a bad day

i think he derives his self worth through his career success and money. growing up with little, i think he wouldn’t feel like he made it in life unless he was wealthy and in a well respected position

i don’t think he’d necessarily be flashy with his money. like i don’t think he’d drive a sports car or something like that, it’s more of a security thing to know that if he needed $x for something, he has it available

idk why but i feel like this man has a sweet tooth 🥺 love chocolates and candies and especially gummy candies!! i feel like he’s got a stash somewhere in the house because he doesn’t like to share

i feel like marriage would be really important to him. even tho it’s just a piece of paper and a couple of rings, i think it makes him feel secure in his relationship — but at the same time it would be really difficult for him to propose because even if you’ve been dating forever, he’d still have that small bead of insecurity that you’re going to leave

non-binary, they/them. i feel like that’s mostly canon but some people still write them with different pronouns idk. i feel like i could never write smut for hange because i can’t decide if it’s hotter for them to have a dick or a strap 🫣

will befriend literally anyone. i feel like if the two of you go out to the grocery store together, they’re chatting up the other customers, asking for recommendations from the butcher at the deli counter, talking to the cashier about school 💀 every outing takes 10x longer when you’re with them

has a hard time sitting still and is CONSTANTLY tinkering with stuff. like the two of you can’t have a moment of peace without hange being like, does that picture frame look crooked to you? i bet i could fix it. or like there’s horseback riding at a local farm nearby!! i already booked us a date there 🥰

doesn’t drink! idk why but i feel like they don’t like the way alcohol makes them feel (either in the moment or the hangover the next day) so they don’t drink. has no problem if you do and will always be your DD and go out with you, which is actually super nice because they always take care of you if you have too much 🥺

they hyperfixate on a new hobby every couple of months. this month it’s golf, so they brought a brand new set of clubs, rangefinder, golf watch, membership to the local golf club 💀 is already dragging the others on a golf trip with them later in the summer. but this same time next year, they’ll be into something completely different like photography or something 😭

Do you tell your friends / family that you write?

I do! Actually, everyone who knows me knows I've made it my personality haha. Right now I'm writing sketch comedy for my city's sketch group, I have had a few of my sketches performed and will have two in our next show! A lot of my friends write too, we have a variety of genres from creative nonfiction to comedy to high fantasy. Not necessarily all of them RP but most of us have RP'd at some point!

My dream is to have a novel or two out, or more, so I tend to tell people to keep myself from backing out!

Have you ever written a canon muse that you first thought of ‘meh’ when they appeared in their canon show/movie/book?

I think Jessie is the main example of this one. I used to be scared of her when I watched Pokémon. And then I became a young woman in society and was like "Ah, I get her now." Haha. I love her and she is an angry woman in her twenties and I get it. Also I've met her VA (Rachel Lillis) and she was very sweet!

Also, Benn Beckman? Like I appreciated any RHP but of course I was most enamored with Shanks. But with some of the RPs I've been in lately it's made more sense to pick him up and now I'm a stan.

Is there any fandom you regret exploring?

I really don't want to call out the specific fandom, but I will in DMs if someone wants more tea. But there is a fandom for a muse that I still have that was just so polluted with bullying in like, constant call-outs, really, really forgetting people were the ones behind keyboards, and it was just mean. It really did a number on my own mental health with some of the things I experienced when I was in it. I've looked in on the fringe lately but seeing how some people still act I'm just... yikes. I've had a lot of fun in the OP rp world so I'm fine sticking here.

Do you plot a ship or see where it goes?

Yes.

I find RPs to just be slow. Which is fine, I'm a slow rper too, and everyone is busy. So I love when someone will just talk about muse relationships with me. Then if when we're chatting we decide a ship is where we want to go I love plotting that out so we can just write the good stuff. Sometimes the good stuff is the slow-burn, but that anticipation is what keeps me really motivated for writing.

So if anyone wants like, SmoLaw, SmoAce, MiShanks, or really anything just lemme know because then we can like... chat it out and write the fun stuff. Fun stuff doesn't corellate with smut either, it could be writing the fall, writing some angst, fluff, comfort, without having to spend time wasted on threads that aren't going anywhere. We're all busy, who has time for that? (Unless that's your vibe then you, you have time for that and take all of the time you want.)

What’s something you find weird on here?

Hmmm. Not much. I've been here for almost ten years at this point so there's not much I find odd. I used to rp on forums and stuff, and it was fun when everything was part of one connected world. But I know why that isn't the case here though I'd love for more threads/worlds/verses to be connected. Having characters gossip about other characters is just fun.

Though calling characters 'muses' is always a little odd to me but I've sort of gotten the hang of it. It sounds way more poetic than 'this is my garbage character that I sometimes mostly torture because destroying grown men is my passion.'

god yeah this is specifically about the fanon version of imodna but applies to SO much throughout fandom but the specific feeling of enjoying The Thing that is popular in fandom while At Best disagreeing with the fanon interpretation of it is so exhausting. and even for things outside of shipping! like molly was my "favorite" character in the sense of "i can't wait to see what this fucked up awful funky little guy does next" and then i dipped my toes into fandom (and fic, especially) and was like. "oh. these people who call him their fave are living in a different reality. cool i guess." and that happens in every fandom, i know, but i swear it's endemic to cr in a way that i haven't seen in other fandoms i really wanna know WHY that is (or if you agree at all! it's difficult to find folks who Disagree With Popular Fanon but are still vocal lmao). i have a few guesses but my major one would be that with there being So Much Content it's very easy to zero in on the moments you feel like "support" whatever your understanding is while disregarding the 3.95 hours per week of context that sandwich any one moment. only partially-related but i think with laura characters specifically, i would say she's had the most consistent run of characters that are, at least at first glance, approachable - like obviously they're all Fucked Up (as in like. traumatized etc, not Evil Incarnate) but you have to be willing to Dig and ascribe "negative" traits to see just how deep and complex that Fucked Up-ness runs, and when you already believe you understand her mindspace that's a lot harder! and by "approachable" i do mean like. in a literary-criticism "easy to extrapolate motivations/characterization and get in the headspace of" way, not necessarily a friendly bubbly way, especially compared to other party members (and ESPECIALLY in c2, where jester was Both definitions of approachable). but by the time that complexity is really showcased, that surface approachability has infected fanon to the point where her characters are most likely to be used as an audience surrogate - and the AUDIENCE has no agency in the campaign, so laura's characters don't "get" to have any, either. anyways rounding this off with a general thank you for being willing to Put Your Thoughts out there, it really helps to know that like. no, i'm not somehow managing to completely misread a situation/characterization/etc and everyone else somehow Gets It lmao

I think you hit it square on the head here on why this can be super pronounced for Critical Role:

There is tons of content which is very easy to cherrypick

It's ongoing and things can take weeks or months in real time to resolve giving plenty of time for headcanons that build on headcanons that build on headcanons and become solidified in people's minds before the foundation collapses.

It's a pretty massive time commitment to rewatch

The weekend after an episode airs, a lot of people cannot access the show again until it's posted to YouTube so again, fanon can flourish and it's hard to show that canon debunks it

The lines between cast and character can become blurred quite easily; several cast members stay in character voice even when announcing combat actions, and they chat OOC or look at each other as friends during the show in a way that can very easily be taken out of context

Laura specifically does tend to play characters who are in fact quite rigidly controlling their image and emotions, and people fall for the mask and project onto it, and then when it slips and the character expresses a feeling, people get Big Mad.

Anyway, glad you enjoyed me being really fucking pissed off; as indicated I have just decided this campaign to take a spiked bat to bad fanon, and I am very excited for what comes of this in the actual story.

The core of what makes the Hallow so dangerous is how it relies very heavily on manipulating perception.

It’s only natural that a being drawing form and power from the Hallow would be a master illusionist. No physical suit required if your entire body isn’t real.

💬 Can I confess that, once I knew about the Victorian trouser etiquette, that I assumed the reason Ciel wears shorts, is bc he still has the body of a 10yo? I know it's just Yana's choice, but suspense of disbelief made me think that's a good enough reason. He looks like a 10yo, which makes people view him as even more childish, and even less of a threat. And if he looks like 10, but dresses like an #Adult in the streets, people might focus more on him, than him just wearing childs wear.

It’s difficult to reconcile all of that with how our earl is trying so hard to be seen as an adult. And his shorts are about the only truly childish thing in most of his outfits. He’s got heeled shoes to add a little height, and he’s not wearing much of the brighter, more childish colors.

Most of the fancier outfits we’ve seen him in are from official art that’s never seen in the manga itself (fancy cover art outfits don’t count as canon within the storyline). Those strike me as Yana-san just wanting to make fantasy outfits for him — ones he wouldn’t really be okay with wearing otherwise!

The main culprits here (within canon) seem to be who’s dressing him up like he’s a doll: Sebastian literally chooses his outfit for the day and gets him dressed; Nina designs and makes most of the clothes (including the dress for Druitt’s party); Lizzie also plays dress-up with him by buying an outfit she sees and basically forcing him to wear it (ch2). There’s even a later scene (after the circus arc) where Sebastian says some of these clothing choices have gone too far, arguing with Nina to say her choice of ribbon color (red for his necktie) is too childish looking. Since Nina likes to design for women, as well as for boys under 15… and because she’s a personal fan of wearing shorts… she’d probably want to keep our earl in shorts as long as she possibly can. It’s a delight to her that he’s not growing (and that his waist size actually went down).

Truth is, sons of the British royalty and aristocracy are expected to wear shorts until they are 8.

So, he’s being dressed most of the time more like he’s 7, thanks to the shorts… but with some styling details that are more mature.

The oddest outfits (for him) in the manga canon (not including the party dress) are probably:

The one that Lizzie buys. It’s more like the fanciful outfits that Yana-san puts him in for official art, but they are never part of the manga canon. But where on earth did she see an outfit like this, as ready-wear, and decide to get it for him? It might be one of the things Yana-san wishes she could change about the early chapters, before serialization, but the mere fact Lizzie saw an outfit like this… for boys his size… hanging in a shop… suggests that some designer thinks this is good fashion for an aristocratic kid his size (not necessarily a kid his age), but Lizzie sees nothing wrong with dressing her (then) 12 year old cousin like he’s… 10? 7? So she picks it out for him as a gift.

The one designed by the tailor working for the demon cultist who buys the twins. And that gives me the eeriest feeling that it’s this same designer and tailor who later has a shop, where Lizzie sees the outfit for ch2, a couple years later. Both outfits are made for a 9/10 year old boy (size), and both have details that wouldn’t be typical of boy’s clothes… at any age. Perhaps Yana-san knew exactly what she was doing with that other outfit in ch2? In January 1886, that demon cultist is killed, and his tailor no longer has this wealthy client who appreciates their skills and designs. Just like Nina works for the Phantomhives but also has her own shop, this other tailor might have already had one, too. Still, a major client has been lost. The outfits for ready-wear might be a little less flashy than the ones the cultist ordered, so that they will better appeal to the general population… but these are still unusual fashions.

It’s no wonder, to me now, how our earl got so angry in ch2, particularly over the ring… when he’s wearing an outfit that might give him vibes from the night of horror we finally saw in ch135….

Keep in mind he dresses more appropriate for his age when he goes to Windsor to receive his title (11 or 12) and again when he’s at Weston (13). Even Nina gives him longer shorts (in ch66) than usual, so the long shorts and tall boots make that outfit completely cover his legs.

Seems to me that our earl particularly enjoys making Sebastian wear odd things, or at least placing him into situations where he has to change out of the butler uniform. He was too embarrassed by what Lau had for him to wear to be able to get a laugh at Sebastian’s expense. Everyone with our earl was forced to wear clothes they aren’t used to. But there are at least three times he’s had the chance to really turn the tables on the demon: 1. Lizzie shows up with a pink hat with fake strawberries hanging from it (ch2), 2. Lizzie shows up after the Campania with the nightgown, slippers, and sleeping bonnet (extra chapter), and 3. Nina makes Sebastian try on a bunch of outfits, and some of them are just bizarre (ch116). That last one has our earl even asking what the demon thinks about being treated as a doll.

I think that, most of the time, our earl just puts up with the clothing decisions made by others, and I’m not sure why these other people (particularly Sebastian, Nina, and Lizzie) think it’s a good idea to dress him up like a little kid, instead of the titled earl he’s supposed to be. People probably think he’s just very eccentric, because he should be wearing full trousers all the time now.

My, my. Methinks their creator is the one who really wants to play dress-up. No wonder the god of their world is smiling when misfortune strikes….

Anyone else think it’s weird that Finny also usually wears shorts, even though he’s a servant and working in the gardens? He’s wearing short trousers, that end just below his knees, and long boots that go up to the shorts. He should have full length trousers with knee patches.

Leorio, Hisoka, Illumi, and Chrollo Head Canons #2

What’s up y’all! Thank you so much to the people who have given me feedback about what posts you all would like to see! This post will be about the “Adult Trio” and Leorio about how they would help their significant other with a subject in college. This one is a good suggestion! I’m going to incorporate fluff in this, as I am a sucker for fluff. I hope you all enjoy this! I most certainly do. This post is about 2687 words but don't worry, it's worth the read! These head canons came from my mind its a coincidence that some of these pictures match the thoughts. Portentous (old English) means wonderful or marvelous (in modern English) FYI: I am thinking about creating a discord server for both Voltron and Hunter x Hunter fans. Leorio

“Mr. Leorio”, as we all know, is a sharp guy. He dresses in a suit, carries a suitcase, and wants to be a doctor. This man knows everything about academics, especially math and science. He will need to know these subjects to be a successful medical doctor.

Leorio received an A- in Calculus II and a B+ in Organic Chemistry. He was the only one that passed with flying colors while everyone else barely made it. He didn’t gloat in their faces but as soon as he got into the hallway he jumped for joy.

He was extremely happy about his progress and counted the days until graduation even though that was in 5 years. Wow! Don’t we love graduate school?!

He deserved the high grades because he spent countless nights studying missing parties, football games, and being with you just to make sure he was on the right track to graduating on time.

As we all know, Leorio wanted to pursue this career because he witnessed his best friend dying in front of him powerless to save him. The care for his friend would have been too expensive. Obtaining his degree was in honor of his friend; he’d save countless children, women, and men who’d all thank him for his hard work.

Leorio didn’t socialize much, but he did find himself hanging around a group of classmates that were a part of a co-ed fraternity that provided information on scholarship money for graduate school and job opportunities. This is where he met you. You didn’t want to be a doctor but instead wanted to be a computer scientist and decided to volunteer for this fraternity job fair.

As he rejoiced, his smile faded when he saw you walking down the hallway; tears falling from your face not caring who stared at you. He quickly walked up to you, put his arm around your back, and gave you a soft hug.

“What’s the matter,” he asks.

You were failing Calculus, a class you’ve been taking since the 12th grade but for some reason, you couldn’t pass it. Everyone else had A’s and B’s, while you had a D. D’s aren't accaetable in college; most make you retake the class.

“Don’t worry. I’ve just passed my midterm. I can help you study. You’ll pass; trust me.”

Later on that evening, he kept his promise but gave it a unique twist. He kept the lights off and lit 4 Yankee-sized candles in the room that smelled like Lavender. In the background, he had piano jazz playing on his speaker. You felt confused for a moment. You and Leorio weren’t necessarily dating but you both flirted with each other here and there. He wasn’t a social butterfly, but he felt comfortable talking to you.

“Um...what’s the music for?”

“It helps me concentrate. Believe it or not, it helps my brain flow. You like it don’t you?”

“No, actually I don’t.” Truth be told you loved it but you wanted to pull his strings a little. He looked up with a confused look.

“Ok. I’ll turn it off.”

“I'm kidding! It’s great!”

Whenever he cannot solve a Calculus question, he reviews similar problems from Algebra II. He applies this knowledge to your problem.

“Perform the indicated function evaluations for f(x)=3−5x−2x^2 . I’ll solve the first part for an example: f(6+t) simply means you will exchange “x” for 6+t. It will look like f(6+t)=3-5(6+t)-2(6+t)^2=-49 . You’d distribute -5 and -2 to the numbers inside of the brackets in which they are next to.”

Wow, that was easy! Wait, not he must think you’re stupid.

“You must think I’m stupid, don’t you?”

“Of course not! It took me a while to understand it too. You’ll apply the same knowledge for the rest.”

After what seemed like 4 hours (which was 2), you finally finished your homework! It was probably wrong but at least you made it past the 1st question! As you blew out the candles and turned on your LED lights instead, you see Leorio sleeping on your couch. Something about his soft face made you smile and place your hand over your heart.

“My little doctor,” you whispered to yourself.

“Well, come give this doctor some company then. I’m freezing over here!”

The throw blanket was large enough for you both. Snuggling on the couch was a great end to a stressful day.

Chrollo

To everyone else Chrollo was “Boss” or “Boss Man” but to you, he was Chrollo. Big C was known for his love for poetry and language.

He read poetry any chance he had at lunch and even dinner. It had gotten so bad that you had to tell him for the millionth time “No books at the table!”

Given his past, he always read at least 2 hours a day or one book a week. Reading is what got him through the day.

He was staying in your dorm for the day to relax because he had taken and passed his midterms to. The young thief thought about hiding in the closet but he didn’t because he sensed that you’d be tense because of midterms.

As you walked through the door, you looked angry, so angry that you could punch a wall. He immediately rose to his feet, threw his arms straight out in front of him, and motioned for you to stop. You just stared at him blankly.

“Come here,” he said like you, on cue, melted in his arms. He was warm and the deepness of his cooing voice vibrated against your neck. “What’s the problem?”

“I’m failing this stupid Shakespeare class!”

“Really?”

“Yes and if I don’t pass this midterm I’m going to fail the class for the 3rd time. I want to drop out! Who needs this scam anyway?!”

Chrollo held you a bit longer until you were ready to sit down and get to business. You pulled out your college’s book about Shakespeare plays and how he used Old English. Chrollo was the perfect man for the job! He’s read Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet several times!

Chrollo read a few stanzas and explained them. He then had you read some on your own and explain them...still you can’t.

He notices the problem immediately. He catches you snuggling comfortably against his toned arm, nearly falling asleep.

Chrollo laid at the very corner of the couch as you lay horizontally placing your head against his chest. You were comfortable but you weren’t able to focus. He notices this and slightly demands that you go sit at the table. When it came to academics, he was serious.

For as long as he had been reading, he has an arsenal of vocabulary words ready to be of use. He created flashcards for you and had you flip them over for nearly an hour. You start to memorize the words!

But you’re not done yet.

“Say the word ‘portentous’.”

“Por-ten-trious…?”

“No. Por-ten-tas.”

“Tias…?”

He moved his chair next to you, just an inch away from your face. He cups your mouth and moves it as he speaks again. This wasn’t a hard clutch, it was soft and he wasn’t irritated but he could sense that you were becoming irritated.

“Por-ten-tas,” he said again.

Instead of letting your cheeks go, his eyes diverted to your lips. They were moist and plump, ready to be met by his.

“Your lips are gorgeous. Kisseth me quite quaint.”

Oh no. Look at the monster you’ve created.

Chrollo created a reward system. Whenever he did things right as a child, he was rewarded with money and jewels. For every word you pronounced and defined correctly, he kissed you once. For each word you got correct in a row, he’d kiss you twice.

Soon enough he had kissed you so much that you couldn’t see straight!

The kisses worked because you passed your midterm! Each kiss placed a stain in your brain that made you remember the definition and how to pronounce it.

You and Chrollo celebrated by drinking champagne and listened to him read Sonnet 23 and 57.

Hisoka

As unusual as it seems, Hisoka is gifted when it comes to Chemistry specifically. That is why you two work well together...there is some chemistry going on between you two.

His hair down and his glasses were his alter ego, it was something that made him act completely different than what you were used to.

When you all were freshmen, he would skip class, attend parties, and would be hungover almost every week but once he was called into the Dean’s office, he changed.

You slightly missed that edgy side of him, but you enjoyed having a serious beau.

Hisoka is a social butterfly and is the life of the conversation and you loved him for it but sometimes it was awkward.

While he was chatting away about Calcium (Ca) and Iron (Fe), you stood there nodding like an idiot. You had NO IDEA about what he was talking about and that is why you were going to drop your chemistry class.

“I saw an imbecile put aluminum foil in the microwave and it burst into flames. How did they not know that Microwaves are the radio waves falling under frequency around 2500 megahertz? Any metallic object detected by radio waves inside the microwave acts as a reflector of radio waves.”

You shove his arm hard. He was acting arrogant in front of his friends. You were used to this but it got on your nerves. You made mistakes, everyone does!...even those that almost burn down the entire dorm room.

You two leave the party and head to his dorm room. Once you were settled, you released a can of anger and threw it all over your boyfriend.

“Hisoka? You just humiliated me.”

“Oh? No one knows that I was talking about you, my dear.”

“Don’t ‘my dear’ me! I asked for your help and you’re ignoring me. I don’t appreciate that. I didn’t ignore you when you sprained your ankle, did I?”

“No, you didn’t, dear. I supposed I have a few hours to kill. What do you need help with?”

Hisoka’s way of studying was much different from other students. He exercises like crazy before he opens his textbook.

He listens to EDM instrumentals while on the treadmill and when he lifts weights. You weren’t standing there like a trophy, he made you lift too.

“Being healthy will help your brain flow more easily. Lift this dumbbell as heavy as you can.”

He ran a mile on the track upstairs. Sweat dripped from his face like he had been standing outside in the rain.

By the time you returned to his dorm, you were beyond tired. You laid your head on his pillow but just as you closed your eyes, he pulled you up on your feet.”

“Not on my watch,” he tutted. “It’s chemistry time.”

You were having trouble memorizing Chemical Formulas and this by far was the most difficult concept you had come across.

To make you stay awake, he turned on a bright LED light and faced it towards the table. The bright light nearly made your head fall off from the pain it reflected in your eyes.

Hisoka grabbed his book and began to write down the major chemicals on the periodic table and their charges.

“Pay attention to the following abbreviations and charges: Calcium is Ca, Chloride is Cl+2, Carbide is C+2, and Carbon Dioxide is CO+2. Read these over and I’ll test you again.”

He did just that but you still weren’t understanding. You were ready to give up.

Stupid scam. Why do I need a piece of paper to determine what I can do? You thought to yourself. Well, it’s obvious. If you can’t do the work now, what makes you think you can do it at a job? Harsh, I know.

“Let me try this,” He said. He carried you to his bedroom and gently placed you on it. He took off his shirt and removed his glasses. “Aluminum has a charge of +3 and Oxygen has -2. If there were three of me and two of my clones disappeared, how many of me are left?”

“Just you, right? One”

“Correct! Excellent.”

Wow, everything started making sense once he took his shirt off.

From then, he just inserted himself into the equation and then it started to make sense! He apologized for running his mouth earlier and promised to keep any more secrets between you two. The night ended with you sleeping in his bed wrapped in a cotton blanket just cuddling and that was it. And bam! You slept as sound.

Illumi

Dating the “hot” quiet history buff was a flex of its own. Sure Illumi didn’t talk to anyone besides you, but it didn’t matter. People swooned if he looked in their direction.

History was a popular major during your era. People were not like their grandparents; they wanted to learn about other cultures besides their own. Illumi’s specialty was in world history and civilizations. The class was very interesting to you but there was so much information, you could barely process it.

Illumi often wrote his essays in one day proofread and all! He often charged people to look their essays over.

One time he made $500 in one year!

Glancing at your transcripts, he notices that you have a C- and offers to help.

“Why are you looking through my stuff?”

Hey, he’s your boyfriend! But still, he should ask.

“Sorry. It was up on the screen,” he said, throwing his hands in the air.

You began to blush in embarrassment. The hottest smartest man in the building now knew that you were failing one of the easiest classes on campus.

Placing his thumb under your chin, he lifted your head to meet his gaze. “There’s nothing to be embarrassed about. I can help you.”

“How? I am so behind! I zoned out after chapter 2!”

“We’ll watch a movie.”

“Oh, God! Not one from PBS is it?!”

“Yes. How else are you supposed to learn?”

He turns on the movie and allows you to lay your head on his shoulder but not too much. He is aware of your tricks and he wants you to pay attention.

Every 15 minutes, he pauses the movie and asks you checkpoint questions. If you got them wrong, you had to stand up with your underclothes on (t-shirt and shorts) in the cool room for 10 minutes. If you got the questions right, he allows you to lay more comfortably. You were already in your underclothes but you were under the blanket.

He made you write down key definitions and the embarrassment of each section.

After the movie, he blindfolds you and reads out a term. Surprisingly, you got them all correct!

As a reward for your past midterm, he takes you to dinner at a restaurant where he slips a promise ring on your finger containing your birthstone.

Ramble Anon here, thank you so much for letting me unload here! Hopefully you don’t regret it as I challenge the text limitations of your ask box, but I may have gone ham at around 1AM and, uh, well yeah, this is the usual result of going ham over theories at 1AM. Hopefully this isn’t too disjointed aldkjshf

It started with the thought that maybe the Glaciator 2 confession attempts on the balcony actually parallel the LadyNoir fallout of the season - right now we are at “it sounds more like you’re angry with me than in love with me” (it appears like you’re angry with me instead of showing me you care about me) and Kuro Neko will be going into the ‘Chat Noir gives his attempt at Marinette’s confession’ which is Catwalker being who Adrien thinks Ladybug wants Chat Noir to be. (I am 100% assuming Catwalker is actually Adrien for all of this, based solely on the punny name and the scene with the moon paralleling the floating moonlight dance scene from the New York special, because this episode has a lot of NYS parallel theming at a glance, even though the NYS is purportedly not part of the main canon universe). So Ladybug is forced to take a step back and analyze what’s happening instead of being in her own head for it, because someone else has taken the reins from her (Chat quitting takes the decision out of her hands). And then they decide to take a breather and both go on a bus ride and see a movie and walk in the chaos rain that is the finale and finally communicate and come to understand what the other person is feeling. Glaciator 2 is foreshadowing the evolution and resolution of the LadyNoir conflict and I am calling it now.

I can also see Catwalker being Adrien because in the trailer he mentions that it’s “his turn to protect her”, which I believe is something from another spoiler along the lines of Ladybug angrily telling him she’s leaving him out of things to protect him (but I am still fuzzy on the details of that scene and which episode it’s a part of) - but if it is from Kuro Neko and is part of what leads him to give up the ring, then him claiming that this time he’ll do the protecting (be the partner he thinks she’s wanted since the beginning) is another turnabout of the dynamic. Him wanting to protect her and be someone she can lean on is exactly what Ladybug is not letting Chat Noir do, and at the end of Glaciator 2 he mentions that maybe if he plays more Adrien instead of Chat Noir around her, maybe she would give him more of a chance. Not necessarily in a romantic sense - but I can see Catwalker being Adrien’s attempt to be an “Adrien” version of Chat Noir, which is 100% heartbreaking because Chat Noir was his escape from being Adrien (not that he knows who he is as himself instead of playing any role), but he’ll be Adrien (™) for Ladybug if he thinks it’ll help her. Which is, not healthy. But those buttons are little cat paws and that’s such an Adrien detail but ALSO those fancy little chains that are draped over the chest and shoulders? With the three layers of armor underneath? And the little circlet on the mask keeping his facial expressions as neutral as possible? It’s like he’s used the costume change to literally lock himself away. He now feels like he has to guard himself from Ladybug. I’m cry ;-;

Not that this is inherently Ladybug/Marinette’s fault! She’s young and stressed and she has issues knowing anything is wrong unless someone outright tells her, but Chat Noir is used to playing up the role and the few times he has tried to mention something (Wishmaker is the most obvious example) he’s been brushed off because the idea that something could be wrong with her kitty seems like a foreign concept to Marinette - even Tikki trying to ask why he was out on the rooftops in Glaciator 2 was brushed aside.

Whoever came up with the Fae Being thing; yes.

Because she’s not going to admit to herself how much she’s capable of missing him(she already knows she’ll miss him; the disconnect is in the depths to which she would miss him) until he’s gone in a way that the little magical ladybugs can’t bring back - a situation Chat Noir is painfully aware is a possibility for Ladybug because of Hack-San. It echos what happened to his mother, and why previously he’s clung so much to the fact that Ladybug has to make it to the end of the fight in order to bring everyone back - it’s been hammered into his head by her and by Plagg at the beginning, and he’s been echoing it back to her ever since, that Chat Noir is powerless without her - to beat the akuma or to save her, so he does the only thing he thinks he can to make sure she can win without him getting in her way.

Right now Ladybug thinks the thing at the very top of her disaster list is avoiding a Chat Blanc situation - that “it was their love that destroyed the world” and in Ephemeral it was a plan that involved someone learning his identity that made things go wrong, so the farther she keeps away from him, from herself or from the battle, from any situation in which they could learn too much about the other or let her fall in love with him, the better their chances of succeeding are (in her mind). She has no idea that the thing that’s really keeping them apart and almost destroying the world is Gabriel being Hawkmoth, and that there are numerous emotional blows that Hawkmoth can hit Chat Noir with to make him vulnerable. She only knows what she’s been able to glean from the isolated (for months) and (quite possibly literally been driven) insane Chat Blanc’s rantings, and her failed attempt to get someone to learn his identity.

Right now, whether she consciously realizes it or not, her sense of planning has labeled Chat Noir a liability instead of an ally.

Mostly because of trauma. But also because she’s young and has never been in this position before.

Ladybug and Chat Noir both have to go through rough waters in order to get the character development to be able to talk with each other and resolve things between them, not merely by saying one or the other is important to each other, but showing it as well. But they won’t be able to get to the stage of taking action without talking to each other first to figure out what action needs to be taken. Right now they’re both only guessing at what the other needs. Because talking? Ironically easier said than done.

Marinette avoids conflict by talking too much and denying there’s a problem; Adrien avoids conflict by talking too little and not letting anyone know there’s a problem. They need to talk things out, yes. But they also need to learn how ‘talking things out’ works. Marinette may have the loving parents who have demonstrated good communication skills, but she also has a lot on her plate and appears to have at the very least ADHD tendencies, if not some sort of generalized anxiety (whether that’s a result of becoming Ladybug or she had it from before Ladybug is unclear, but being Ladybug has likely ramped it up to 11) and it’s implied she didn’t really have friends before Alya. Alya is honestly the best person for her to listen to in regards to figuring out effective communication skills - growing up in a large family, needing to watch over her two younger sisters, she knows how important communication can be, which she demonstrates with Nino. Marinette just needs to learn how to take that advice when the subject is broached to her, instead of denying there’s a problem to begin with or avoid it because she can’t think of a good solution to the problem herself; which is the trauma response of self-reliance taking hold from all of the times it’s been hammered in that only she can make everything right in the end.

And Adrien… They had a whole episode where he needed advice and cycled through who he could actually go to for that advice, and he ixnayed his father, Nathalie, and his bodyguard, before landing on Marinette as the most reliable person to seek advice from, whether in or out of the cat costume. He really has very few reliable people to look to as role models for good communication. He probably sees Marinette’s parents and how loving and supportive they are, and sees Marinette and her family as the best role models he will be able to find for the kind of life that he longs for.

So Ladybug is going to learn first hand how much lack of communication can kill any relationship, and that worse than needing to save someone she cares about from a bad fate, she’s capable of completely losing them in a way that her magical ladybugs can’t fix (she did partially get this with Fu losing his memories, but she still gets to see him and talk to him, so it’s not quite the same as someone being gone gone). And Chat Noir seems to be losing more and more power to do anything about the situation, so I can absolutely see him trying to give up the ring preemptively if he thought that losing it was an inevitability - it’s the only way to have any sort of control in the situation - to control when he gets hurt, since he thinks how he gets hurt is a foregone conclusion.

And I can see the regaining of the ring be via Ladybug trying to give Adrien a pep talk about trying again, thinking she has to convince him to give handling a Miraculous a second chance after, ironically, failing so many times with Second Chance, but really her pep talk is convincing him to give the Black Cat miraculous specifically another chance, meanwhile he’s thinking he has to be someone completely different from Chat Noir in order to succeed at it. Only for either himself or Ladybug or both to figure out that Chat Noir is really who he needs to be/who Ladybugs needs him to be all along(Desperada parallels).

Because in the end, it doesn’t matter who it will be, it wouldn’t be Chat Noir, even if it’s still Adrien, and Ladybug is going to hit those feels like a wall when she finally can’t deny them anymore, because even if Catwalker was the perfect partner she always implied she wanted, everything about the dynamic is wrong and even for Ladybug and Chat Noir their dynamic has been wrong for a while and neither of them know quite how to fix it but that doesn’t mean she won’t be willing to try if she can only find him to convince him to come back and that she doesn’t want to be Ladybug without her Chat Noir (NYS parallels).

Time for Ladybug and Adrien to have the same kind of heart to heart (as Marinette and Chat Noir in Glaciator 2) about how hard it is to try and be what everyone else needs them to be and be isolated because of it, to convince them to talk to each other finally as Ladybug and Chat Noir and start to clear the air between them once again, maybe a little more successfully now that they both have a clearer picture of the other.

I could be (and probably am) horribly off the mark, but one can be hopeful that this could be at least the first baby step to knowing where they have to go next in communicating with each other, even though there’s not going to be any easy answer for getting things back to balanced again between them. Even if that baby step might not happen until the end of the finale itself and be the lead in to Season 5.

i love the idea of the glaciator 2 scene being parallel and/or foreshadowing, especially since glaciator 2 does also feature adrien’s lines at the end about showing her the real him. which he had started to do in the following episodes, but maybe now, from his perspective, that approach isn’t working either, so he needs to play a different role—a more serious one. which also parallels the glaciator 2 balcony scene!

marinette gets mad and tells him to take things more seriously so he does. but of course that doesn’t work because what she really wanted was for him to be genuine. and i think the same thing will happen here. the trailer made it seem like he was trying too hard to make it up to her for being late when she snapped at him, when he could’ve just given her a genuine apology and it would’ve been better received.

the “i’m protecting you” clip was actually from the finale according to the VA that leaked it, so it’s later than this. but i do think your point still stands, because ladybug was protecting him in ephemeral. and then he doesn’t show up for more battles and suddenly the public is questioning it in addition to su han, so maybe she feels like she has to keep making excuses for him to “protect” him. because after ephemeral, every time chat noir misses a battle ladybug isn’t just worried where he is or upset that she’s short on help, she’s also scared that this battle will be the one that changes su han’s mind and he will try to insist on finding a new chat noir again

i do have to disagree a bit on the marinette thing—she’s pretty bad at noticing things, yeah, but she doesn’t entirely reject the idea that something could be wrong with chat noir. she asks him in rocketear… and he tells her he’s fine. and marinette believes him because she trusts him. and well, even if he isn’t okay, maybe he just said he was because it was civilian stuff that he can’t talk about—marinette doesn’t share her civilian problems with him either so this would seem reasonable to her.

i don’t even know if marinette has anyone that she doesn’t consider a liability at this point, save maybe alya. that’s why no one else gets their miraculous permanently. fu instilled the idea that trusting people, even chat noir, is a risk and should be limited. and then chat blanc gave her a very good reason to believe that.

hard agree on all your points about communication and conflict resolution, which they both desperately need to master and i’m looking forward to watching them finally do it instead of just walking around letting all of this build up inside of them. stop shaking up the soda can and let it explode, it’s too late to prevent it now so we just gotta figure out how to clean the mess. but cleaning up mess is the part marinette’s really good at so they’re gonna be okay. adrien just has to stop being scared of opening the can.

Chapter One

The One Where Lana Had Strong Feelings About the Eggs

Jill had some amazing fix-it ideas for the conversation in Chapter One, one of which was around the egg freezing and giving Tim a chance to be a little more supportive than he was in canon. It wasn’t necessarily a topic that I was super excited to revisit, and thus I realized that fix-it is maybe not my forte...

“I guess they don’t,” his voice is different somehow, huskier, and Lucy follows his gaze to their intertwined hands, warmth rushing into her cheeks as she realizes just how intimate the moment has become.

Tim clears his throat, abruptly pulling his hand out from under hers and running it back through his hair as he leans back in his chair, eyes returning to the shadowy view, “So what did you decide about that egg freezing thing?”

Ultimately, Jill helped me fix my fix-it (or so we hope! 😂)

The One That Started the Great Sergeant’s Aide Debate of 2021

In Jill’s words, this one could also be called “Should Lucy still be Tim’s aide, and other things that felt super emotionally fraught at the time and now feel chill in retrospect” --- A new story by Lana Pickle

So this was a fun one - it was our first major disconnect...

Lana’s POV: But it was also super enlightening for us both because, in my mind, Tim immediately addressing the aide thing was just something that had to happen; it wasn’t a line I thought about at all, so seeing that Jill had a fairly strong response to it forced us into one of our first conversations about how we saw the characters and their motivations differently.

And the back and forth on this definitely continued into Chapter Two and how the Escape Room conflict ultimately unfolded. It took quite a bit of convincing, I think, for me to even believe Lucy would want to stay on as his aide, and it probably wasn’t until we landed on framing it as both about her career and her emotional state around not wanting things to change that I got on board — not sure that Jill is even aware of this now, but I think this was one of the early decisions that helped me get my arms around where Lucy was emotionally and what was going through her head in the aftermath of sleeping with Tim.

Jill’s POV: The aide topic is so interesting to look back on, because even at that time in the season it seemed like maybe the show would do more with the decision to keep them riding together. And then it just....didn't. Until the recent dance episode, it really wasn't a thing. So in addition to us both having valid, but different, perspectives on what it would mean for Lucy to not be Tim's aide anymore, for me it felt like a bigger deal, storyline-wise, than it actually was on the show until very recently.

The Ones Where Lucy Had Too Many Feelings Too Soon

Some of these early back and forth exchanges were super foundational in terms of how the story ultimately unfolded… two original cuts on how Lucy felt after learning that Tim was, in fact, seeing someone and that someone was was Ashley. These ultimately got scrapped as we tried to zero in on where she we wanted her to be emotionally in Chapter One…

Jill’s POV:  I sound really chill in the chat about Lucy comparing herself to Ashley, but I felt really strongly about not having Lucy as a non-size 0 woman of color compare herself negatively to Ashley, a thin, conventionally attractive white woman. That would have been our second big fight of 2022 if you hadn't been so open to the edit. 😂

Lana’s POV: I love hearing Jill’s perspective on this now because it wasn’t something we discussed a ton when it came up. I think this was an instance of us looking at something through the different lenses of our experiences and backgrounds (and, per Jill, a reminder that we don’t actually know each other in the real world).

As a non-size 0 WOC myself, for me, comparing myself to Western standards of beauty was [unfortunately] just a reality of growing up in Texas / the states at a time where media and culture wasn’t particularly concerned with representation and the self-image issues they were propagating. And, though, as an adult, I rationally see it differently now, it’s still something that is emotionally ingrained in me. So from that perspective, Lucy having that thought in a high intensity emotional moment didn’t feel unrealistic to me. But ultimately, I didn’t feel like canon had really developed Lucy’s characterization on this front enough to defend it, and I wanted to be cognizant of what I might be projecting onto the character. 

Ultimately, I do think it was the right call for the story (and Lucy), and I’m glad that Jill provided the feedback.

Where we ended up...

“I’m fine,” she finally manages, biting her lip as she tries to get her arms around the magnitude of what they’ve done — all of the lines they’ve crossed. And then there’s that nagging concern that is suddenly back front and center in her mind. “Tim…what you said to Genny the other day — are you really seeing someone?”

He lifts his eyebrows in surprise, like it’s not what he expected her to say at all. “I — yeah. Ashley, Jerry’s daughter.” His jaw tightens as he says it. “I asked her out a little over a month ago. After the treasure hunt.”

Lucy’s face falls, and for a second she feels like she might be sick. It’s not like any affirmative answer to the question could have been good, but the idea that he’s seeing someone she actually knows twists her gut with guilt. “I-I don’t… Shit, Tim, I’m so sorry.”

“You don’t have anything to be sorry for, Lucy.”

She lets out a sound that is halfway between a scoff and a strangled sigh. She tries to find something to say and ends up landing on a feeble, “She seemed really nice when I met her.”

Now it’s Tim who looks like he might be sick. “She is,” he says quietly.

They stare at each other for a few moments, the weight of everything that has happened over the last 24 hours heavy in the air. Tim’s expression is stoic and unreadable, a sharp contrast to the way he looked at her last night with such open, raw vulnerability. He clears his throat to speak, but suddenly Lucy feels like she needs to be the one to say it.

“Look, last night was a mistake, Tim. It shouldn’t have happened. We were drinking and we were both upset.” Lucy takes a deep breath, trying to keep her voice steady. “And I would never want to do anything to jeopardize your relationship. Or to mess up our working relationship. I’m your aide and —”

Tim is nodding slowly, brow crinkled in concern, “I could put in a request for a new aide —”

“NO. No. I don’t want that. I think — this was just a one-time thing. Neither of us was thinking straight. We don’t have to make it into more than it was. Can we just put it behind us?”

Lucy’s gaze is pleading. Tim looks briefly conflicted — he opens his mouth, then closes it again. Finally, he simply says, “If that’s what you want.”

She nods slowly, hoping her expression isn’t as deeply sad and disappointed as she suddenly feels, unable to process the wave of incongruous emotion she is feeling about every single bit of this. This is for the best, she reassures herself.

“Lucy…” Tim is stepping toward her, reaching for her, and she stumbles back out of his reach.

She chokes back the emotion rising in her throat. “I should go,” she tosses over her shoulder as she whirls on her heel, not trusting herself to be here, with him, in his space for even a minute longer.

Hello Geo-san, just read your post on Malleus's birthday. It says that his only relative is his grandmother and she still rules the Valley of Thorns. There are theories that his grandmother is none other than Maleficent herself. If that's the case, there are two options here, either she survived her encounter with Prince Phillip or the TW timeline is following the 2014 film. Where she's still alive and ruling the Moors, maybe renamed as the Valley, alongside with Aurora. We'll just wait and see.

I've actually been thinking about this myself, that was much of a shoking reveal!

Aside from revealing the fact that Malleus's parents are dead, this somehow dropped a bomb on "Maleficent being Malleus's grandmother theory"

The main discussion going over the fandom regarding the topic is whether his grandmother is Maleficent or not, which is a really important question!

As someone who strongly supported this theory before this reveal, I can't say I wouldn't be disappointed if Maleficent isn't actually his grandmother, but on the other hand, the possibility of her being Maleficent and still alive would face some strong contradictions in the story:

First off, let's flash back to where this theory begun in the first place:

In Malleus's personal chats, we can find Sebek complimenting Malleus's performance after the classes, telling him that he'd even surpass the witch of thorns herself one day!

Malleus immediately objects to it, saying his powers barely come close to his grandmother's.

Well, to think that they were actually talking about Maleficent but all of a sudden Malleus mentioned his grandmother instead, left us qith a great possibility of him being Maleficent's grandson, to the point that many, including me, considered this theory as canon! But now I highly doubt this theory, even though I wanted it to be confirmed true so much. But since we have more information to seriously discuss the matter right now, here are my thoughts whether this theory is still acceptable or not, which is mainly explaining what would happen if they're actually using the 2014 and 2019 live action movies as a reference:

1) Maleficent being alive would totally WRECK Silver's character development and design!

Come to think of it, there would be no Silver if Maleficent is still alive! Silver's twisted logo is the sword, and the one and only famous sword in the sleeping beauty classic AND the live action movie is the one which slayed Maleficent.

So... If Maleficent's still alive -> There hasn't ever been a sword which slayed her -> Silver doesn't have any special or specific symbol/ character which he is twisted from!

While his name might have something to do with the live action version, where they strongly used Silver to defeat Maleficent, it can also be referring to the fact that dark fairies would immediately be wounded if touched with Silver, which is most likely because of Yana's studies in the fae mythology field (Like how she chose ice cream as Malleus's favorite food since fairies love cream) which isn't necessarily bound to the live action version. But since the sword is Silver's most important role in the game, we can't really stick with the live action version because not only didn't we have any special swords in the live action version, but there also would be a big confusion if there hasn't ever been a sword which slayed Maleficent and Silver is twisted from!

In summary, I'd be honest and say this out loud: Maleficent HAS TO be dead because we need the Silver sword to exist somewhere in the story!!!

2) History of 'Classic Maleficent' vs 'Live action Maleficent'

one of the main points which needs to be considered in this matter, is how different Classic Maleficent and Live action Maleficent are. Maleficent is the very first Disney live action to present a totally different face of a well-known Disney villain such as Maleficent, which also led to a considerable growth in both "Maleficent" and the classic version of "sleeping beauty"'s popularity at the same time! But while 2014's Maleficent was an absolutely amazing movie (to at least) and nearly turned Maleficent into the most beloved villain of Disney's history, the live action (especially the 2019 version) received some strict critiques regarding how they pictured Maleficent: Many of the fans were familiar and attached to the original Maleficent, the mistress of all evil who had control over the powers of hell itself. A REAL villain and an absolutely perfect one. But the live action Maleficent wasn't meant to be a villain, the live action narrated a totally different story from what the classic was.

Though it didn't really lessen the movie's popularity, there were fans who begun to dislike this version of Maleficent after the 2019 version and their reason for disliking the movie actually made sense, the live action went TOO FAR with creating a second Maleficent, almost to the point of not being anything similar to the original, that strong villainous sense they were expecting to see in Maleficent had disappeared.

Now let's talk about twst, what is twst about? Villains. It's basically the world of villains. We need that evil, menacing and demonic sense of villains to be brought back to life through this twisted vessels, as it's confirmed that this school's students have villainous souls. From the Heartslabyul chapter till now, the Pomefiore chapter, his is all we've dealt with: Absolute villains. Each chapter is about a dorm leader (expect for Kalim) discovering and revealing their villainous spirits, which leads to an overblot. They want them to see just as evil and reckless as the original villains, which is why they put them into a mode such as overblot, where they're controlled by a puppet in the shape of one of the great seven.

Is such a story, where they need to make each of the main characters be as evil as possible, choosing live action Maleficent (who is a half villain, half hero character) not only is debatable but ia also a big contract to the previous chapters as they all followed the original villains' stories!

I guess we can all agree that Diasomnia's quite special compared to the rest of the dorms, but going as far as using a different source in character development and plot design compared to the rest of the characters and dorms seems to be a bit too much- I don't think Diasomnia's design and development is planned to be THAT different.

3) Key points about fhat has been officially mentioned in twst

Personal chats are VERY important to go through while doing a character analysis, they're such a wealthy and perfect source of information regarding each and every of the characters!

As for Diasomnia, each and every of the members mentioned something about the witch of thorns and her background, which directly leads us to how and who is the twst's Maleficent:

Lilia: Explains how Maleficent's Chronicles spent 16 years looking for a baby in a cradle -> This only happened in the classic! Live action Maleficent never sent any of her minions to look after aurora as she never had any!

Silver: Explains how the King of a well-known kingdom forgot to invite Maleficent and offended her with this, he wonders what kind of King would ever do such a disrespectful thing? -> Original Maleficent was offended and mad just because she wasn't invited, while the Live action Maleficent was betrayed by the King Stephan, Aurora's father who intentionally refused to invite Maleficent. Keep this in mind that Silver said forgetting to invite her, which is exactly what happened in the classic and King and Queen seriously forgot to invite Maleficent, not to intentionally avoid and decide to keep her away from baby Aurora like what happened in the live action.

Malleus: In his chats with Lilia, he mentions how The witch of thorns once invited the prince of as enemy Kingdom into her own castle -> This is again, something which only happened in the classic, referring to the scene where Maleficent captured prince Philip and imprisoned him inside her castle. Live action Maleficent didn't even have a castle to begin with, note that all she did was to take Phillip to Stephan's castle to give Aurora a chance to live.

Malleus: He explains how The Witch of thorns could turn into a dragon -> Live action Maleficent never turned into a dragon, she just once turned her crow, diaval, into a dragon (2014 ver.) and turned into a phoenix (2019 ver.). The only Maleficent which could and did transform into a dragon is the one we know from the sleeping beauty classic.

Hitting with the lighting: This is something Malleus is capable of doing, he both did this to Sebek back in the manga anthology and threatened Rook with it -> Again, this is something which the original Maleficent and herself only could do.

There are quite a few of other orginal Maleficent references you can find if you carefully go through the story and voice lines, but I'm not going to mention each and every of them because I believe I've already discussed this enough. Note that while there are tens of original Maleficent references in the story, there hasn't been anything mentioned about the live action Malleus so far expect for fan content and stuff.

Obviously, they're using Original Maleficent as the main reference. The question is whether they're using the live action too as a reference or not.

4) A summary + Existing debates

Aside from all of the current theories and headcanons, I guess this is all we can tell about the canon information revealed so far. But before we end, I'd like to add a few of small notes:

Lilia has never referred to the Witch of thorns as Queen of thorns, it's not quite specific to tell but it seems like Queen of thorns and Witch of thorns are indeed to different people.

But then again, why does Malleus bring his grandmother up in the middle of a discussion about Witch of thorns? Could it be that he just used her mother as an example since her too, is a very powerful magician but not exactly the witch of thorns herself, or...??

There hasn't been any information revealed regarding the great seven's current position in twisted wonderland's history, how long ago has their stories taken place? Could it be that some of them are still alive? Did their stories end just the same as orginal stories or did they decide to twist the endings as well?

The main reason why I think Maleficent cannot be alive now is not becuase she died in the original story, it's becuase of Silver, which has already been explained in part (1)!

At last, I'd like to add a final note to this piece: Even if the "Grandmother Maleficent" theory turns out to be wrong, many of the fans are already enjoying the eixisting fanon twst content which are using the live action as a reference! The most popular reference is probably with Malleus's back, where many artists decide to add two wounds on as a reference to what happened to Maleficent's wings in the live action. This is personally one of my FAVORITES and I just love it when artists draw the wounds, though the possibility of Malleus actually having wings is pretty low! We can almost call it impossible lol. The thing is, from how the story has gone so far we can assume that they aren't going to use the live action at all, but if they do, that'll be quite amazing and interesting to discuss!!

Lesson 57 analysis + 58 predictions

It's less exciting than anticipated, probably.

tl;dr Summary

We start asleep, but overhearing Satan + Belphegor plotting to prank us. You can choose how to surprise and foil them. They're just here to tell you breakfast is ready. Belphegor finally rewards you with the star of diligence: MC is one star away from completing the exam and earning their sorcerer's license.

Lucifer is eager to make MC a full-fledged sorcerer because he could use them to ward off Solomon's advances, which apparently he's still making. Asmo tells us that Solomon is very picky, and driven, when he's choosing who to pact with.

And he's apparently very adamant about getting Lucifer.

The others note that Mammon and Leviathan are acting unusual, and they clearly are very distracted. We decide to ignore the strangeness for now and answer Barbatos's summons to Hotel Corvo.

And guess who is also being summoned!

We arrive, and Diavolo informs us that there's an evil phantom now haunting the hotel. Not just any ol' phantom, though: a bogeyman.

Apparently they're pretty tough and might have the upperhand against demons. They take the form of what their victims' fear most. They put several hotel guests in the hospital.

We find out that the reason why Mammon and Leviathan are being so weird is because they know they're responsible for the bogeyman being in Hotel Corvo: they went wild with Crowe upgrades and summoned it accidentally, then ordered Crowe to teleport it to Hotel Corvo after it transformed into Lucifer and scared them out of their wits.

Obviously, Lucifer's not happy! Barbatos assigns him to "fix" the problem. The brothers want to leave Mammon and Leviathan to do it on their own, but of course we can't have that.

Diavolo also seems keen on joining, but Barbatos turns on the scary fake smile and Diavolo relents.

Then the others show up! It sounds like it wasn't a planned get-together, but Solomon is eager to make the best of it. He wants to make our quest to banish the bogeyman MC's final trial.

Simeon is initially reluctant, but MC convinces him to join.

And then we're off down a creepy hallway in the hotel. The lesson ends on a cliffhanger as the creature at the end of the hallway suddenly attacks us.

Don't worry, Lucy will save us, probably.

This is the start of the trial of humility.

Analysis

Barbatos's Plan

Probably the most noteworthy thing about this lesson is how clearly Barbatos is setting all this up, even though he has no visibly obvious motivation to do so. He's summoned everyone to the same location under different auspices and he's making sure Diavolo isn't around. We still didn't get any insight on what he and Lucifer talked about, but I think Lucifer's being deliberately steered by him in this direction, too.

Since this doesn't seem to be something he's coordinating with Solomon, it leads me to believe he's either doing something to foil Michael's plan or he's setting up some kind of trap for the guy. For whatever reason, he doesn't want anyone else to catch on just yet.

Simeon's reluctance to stick around and help us is also noteworthy: he probably has Michael plans on the brain, and his intuition is probably trying to warn him. Alas, he can't say no to you.

Also, the BG being a bunch of doors and keys probably means something. Barbatos's room has multiple doors which lead to multiple places, I think: can't remember if they're just portals to different parts of the three realms or different points in time, but if I was a betting gal, I'd put my money on the latter. It doesn't look like his room (it looks like an old hotel), but I wouldn't be surprised if these doors lead to "flashbacks" similar to the ones we ran into back in the fake House of Lamentation.

The Bogeyman and Lucy's fears

It's implied that the bogeyman has powers that may make it difficult for demons in particular to cull. It sounds something an angel might be effective against, though, because Solomon insists Simeon accompany the group just in case "things go south". Though Simeon seems unsure if he can actually be effective against it.

Who do you think is stronger than Simeon, who is an archangel who was once a seraphim? He could just be downplaying his power, too: he's less threatening that way.

The bogeyman also has the ability to take the form of whoever or whatever his victim fears the most: we discover that Mammon and Leviathan fear Lucifer the most when they initially summon it.

This trial is 100% going to involve Lucifer facing what he fears the most. My guesses: it'll be either Father or Michael. They can do the former if MC doesn't necessarily see the same form Lucifer sees (they likely fear something different)... but if whatever form the bogeyman takes is noticeable to everyone observing it, then it's going to be Michael because I don't think the devs are going to give God a tangible form for reasons.

Why Lucifer could fear Michael? Simple: not only was Michael the one capable of bringing him low during the Great Celestial War, but he may know Lucifer better than anyone. All his strengths, but more importantly, all his weaknesses. Lucifer fears being exposed as flawed and imperfect, particularly by those he considers his lessers. It's also not the first time he's expressed something akin to fear re: Michael.

Another possibility is Lilith. He could fear facing her after failed to protect her. That'd be difficult to manage on-screen, though, for obvious reasons. They haven't given Lilith a canon appearance yet and it's in their best interest not to because they've been using MC as the Lilith expy in the Celestial Realm flashbacks.

Whoever or whatever it is, it'll be fun.

Solomon and his pacts

Another thing this lesson did was remind us that Solomon really, really wants a pact with Lucifer. We found out a couple lessons ago that his whole motivation behind forging a pact with Asmo was his interest in Lucifer.

Up until this point, Solomon has been pretty upfront with his desires and usually backs down when they deny his request to make a pact. He asked Belphegor back in Season 1, and he hasn't brought it up again after he was rejected.

This doesn't seem to be the case with Lucifer, though. His rejections have been ignored.

He's being unusually cavalier about this whole situation so maybe he would try to manipulate the current situation to wring a pact out of Lucifer, since he hasn't been deterred yet and something needs to change in order for him to get what he wants.

I don't know. Lucifer might be his blind spot, and something he wants badly enough to step over the line, so to speak. Why he wants Lucifer so bad is another head scratcher, but it could very well be because just because the guy is incredibly powerful.

Or this is just another red herring meant to make us suspicious of Solomon again. I guess we'll see.

Predictions

We have only three lessons left, and they set this lesson up as the lead into the climax, which is going to be later than where it was in season 2. But it can't afford to happen much later. 58 will give us the first half of the climax at least, and I won't be surprised if it wraps it up entirely in one lesson so we can have both 59 and 60 to say our goodbyes. It'll feel pretty rushed otherwise.

Michael's showing up in some capacity. I'm much more willing to bet on a face reveal now than I was at the beginning of the season: we haven't heard anything from him directly since the first flashback -- not even another chat -- and he hasn't even officially introduced himself yet. But we've been hearing all about him this season, and they've made it a point to let us know he's working on something behind the scenes. It feels like most of this season was softening the ground for his arrival, and he'll drop in to get us hyped for the next season.

I think we're headed back to the Celestial Realm, baby!

Luke's not with us at the haunted hotel, so he'll likely remain oblivious about what happened during the Great Celestial War until next season. Simeon's not gonna fall because he'll probably need to be our tour guide, and we have a bunch to explore about his background, too.

I was hoping we'd get some kind of conflict with the Sorcerer's Society as a part of the completion of the exam but I'm not sure if they can fit all that in now. Kind of disappointing: trying to smooth things over with them sounds much more interesting than Mammon + Levi just letting out a literal boogeyman. I don't think they're using their story themes as effectively as they could be. It's just Levi's tech going awry again, like it always does.

How I'll rate this season will depend entirely on what the climax actually turns out to be, but so far I'd rank it higher than season 2 but lower than season 1 because of the re-used tropes. Stop teasing us and just give us meaty conflict already.

hey Kip! I’m sending asks into different writer’s askboxes, inquiring about cool themes/development facts/stuff the author wants to share about their personal favorite work of their own. What’s yours? :)

Ok so this ask is old and when I first got it I was like “dang I don’t really have a lot to talk about, what should I talk about I could those revalink headcanons the Kip Cut that turned into a working fic uhh hmm maybe I’ll just make something new to talk about real quick” and then I did and now there is a 12+ chapter Revalink fic in my drafts and I’m gonna talk about that now, whoopsie doopsie [click "j" to skip]

aHEM, OK so allow me to break out the primary school white board because yeah, I have a lot of thoughts and the oxford comma has not yet made it’s home into my brain. oh and spoilers for paraphrase. for both all of Chapter one and future events in later chapters, but it’s really nothing you couldn’t surmise from the AO3 tags

so I really wanted to tell the story of Revali and Link learning and struggling to love again after the less-than-fortunate events of Botw, but I wanted a...how you say...fresher, approach on the subject? Like I know we always say that fanfic writers writing the same tropes and stories time and time again is good because we eat that shit up--but at the same time I had asian parenting as was told never to half ass anything ever, no matter what. So now I'm gay and extra and have depression maybe and oh would you look at that @motherhyrule has dropped a beautiful revalink prompt right into my lap

Great so now that we have, that, I shall take you on the step by step process on how to make a :sparkles: story. So step one is to spend at least five to eleven business days for your white board to dismantle your genre and themes and work them around your character arcs. Luckily I have prepared one ahead of time

s*breaks out those laser pointers that uni professors use* So let's start with defining genre. As define because I HATE you, fuck you. I want you to suffer and writhe on the ground, motherfucker. How dare you think that I would give you nothing but pure predictable fluff, fuck you and yours

is the set of expectations that your audience has when consuming a piece of media

And the great thing about fanfiction is that unlike movies or book where the genres are more vague like, "oh it's a noir mystery genre. so there's a crime, maybe a murder, and a detective and a criminal." or "oh it's a teen romance. so there's some white people and a morally questionable six-pack 18 year old love interest that will be painted as desirable for some reason" BUT with fanfiction HALF of the work out the window, because as soon as you see those #revalink #aro sidon #zelpha #revali is an idiot and #found family tags you already know what's up.

Now what's so great about genre and expectation? Well the fun thing about it is that

In Chapter 1: Holes, you already expect there to be revalink, you already expect them to be soulmates with the soulmarks and there's angst and yadayada ya. Revali and Link have to match because thatttss what this is all about, this is about them! This is about cute, little soulmarks and romantic words!

But whoooopsie doopsie [disney channel laugh track plays] they DON'T match anymore! Link's got a different mark! The number one rule of this entire genre has been broken whoooooooooooooooops. *ba dum tiss*

You might notice with a lot of my writing that I do this a lot, this whole..."oop but there's one little thing that's different." TebaSaki sick fic? Ok cool, but what if Teba burns an irreplaceable relic of the Rito champion to fight a wizzrobe first to characterize why his dumbass clicks with Saki. Mipha deciding to persue Link? Ok what if she chases after a dragon to externalize this conflict as she pierces it's flesh for a scale. Link fighting a Lynel? Ok but what if it's actually a sidlink angst fic in disguise and it's also world building on how Link deals with the bloodmoon that erases all of his efforts which is sort of similar to how his existence was erased from Hyrule 100 years ago mwaahahaha! Ok now that I say this outloud I think I just have a pattern of using fight scenes to externalize character growth. I like fight scenes...anyways.

I think another great thing about the realm of fanfiction is that with the tagging system, I can basically use a chekhov's gun sort of deal, without doing any writing. You know I'm gonna use that gun marked "soulmates" but you don't know when I'm gonna shoot it, and you SURE as hell don't know how.

And huzzah! One of the main points of conflict both drives the tension between Revali and Link, solidifies the unique genre and setting of this world, while also creating a new mystery that will carry over for the next few chapters.

Is Revali right in that Link's rebirth makes him destined for someone new now? What will Link do with the information that his soulmark has changed? Why did it change? Did Revali's change as well? How does anything fucking work right now?

And sure, you might be able to tell where things will end with them, but you sure as fuck will not know how because I HATE you. Fuck you. I want you to suffer and writhe on the ground, motherfucker. How dare you think that I would give you nothing but pure predictable fluff. I am not your goddamn fairy godmother, I will do as I fucking please. Oh! But you might have noticed on my little planning whiteboard thing that there was a little T-Chart! For Revali and Link! That's because the next important thing besides plot (and in a lot of cases, including this one, it's argued to be even MORE important than plot) is

So yes, it's a little T-Chart outlining their character views in relation to the themes. And the great thing about themes is that they're not something you can necessarily predict in the same way you can with the genre and plot.

But now see, I'm very lazy so I'm just gonna plagiarize @hyrule-kingdom-updates thingy [that you should read btw] because they said my point quite clear enough

Now I don't really need to care about those points about bond and relationships and being understood, because I'm dealing with already established canon characters. I'm not some NERD who dabbles with entire casts of ocs who even cares about ocs not me that's for sure ahaahahaahahahahahaahahahahahAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH *cries in my orphaned WTTU fic* AHAHAHA*sobs*DONT FUCKING LOOK AT ME THAT WAY I SWEAR--

But the points I do wanna focus on is the idea that characters provide new perspectives on the theme, and that characters growth can be tracked based on their wants, lies, and needs.

So see, themes can be predicted the same as genre/plot because while you can have the same fanfic plots and tropes, theme will always vary!

Sometimes it's a journey of selfworth with Revali! Sometimes it's an exploration of trauma with Link. Sometimes it's about how you deal with the vulnerabilities of love with Mipha. Sometimes there's straight up NOOOO theme, and people just be fucking, and kissing, and baking, and having a good time. And that is totally fine too!

But I'm not a fucking coward.

I'm gonna weave in themes with my plot, because I fucking can.

They both start off the same way: 100 years ago they were in love and happy. Basically the equivalent of childish naivety. For the first time in their lives, life is whimsical and charming, and they make each other happy. In fact, it's almost a flaw with how they perceive this happiness. But don't worry! It doesn't last long!

You know what happens.

I think the chart is pretty self explanatory. Revali builds walls fast enough to give a republican a wet dream. Meanwhile Link makes every aromantic in the chat groan with his doubled down sentiments in the idea that his chances of being truly happy again are gone.

Now, I can't exactly describe the full on process of the inbetweens, and where Revali and Link are gonna go from here, because...you have to read it for yourself! Heehee...but something I did think was fun was how these character views on the themes are revealed. Because you'll notice that, I never give exposition. Ever.

Ok well, let me rephrase that. I never give exposition scenes. I will never give you a big LOTR fancy wizard scene explaining the ins and outs of a character's question or the world's magic or whatever. I'm a very impatient Kip, and I value efficiency. Nonono, it's all about multi tasking, baby!

Chapter 1: Holes is divided into three parts.

I think the way that you structure flashbacks is incredible vital, as it's a very quick way to characterize people without having them say stuff like "I used to be like you, until I took an arrow to the knee" or whatever.

And with the main structure of the chapters and the fic as a whole is focus on their characters, that means I can hide whatever other stuff I want in those scenes, becuase you're too busy absorbing the fun character stuff to realizing I'm giving you boring exposition. Like for example:

Post 100 Years - Medoh and Mark

Foreshadowing for the end of the fic

Set up connection to Medoh with Revali

Link has defeated Windblight

Link has been visiting Revali every night for the past few days

Link has already met Kass and presumably Teba

Link doesn't have the Mastersword

Revali's Gale is still an ability that needs master and practice on Link's end

And that's just some of the stuff.

And see, the only reason I can efficiently give all of this information regarding character, and even exposition, is because of the theme. The themes make everything relevant, and everything circles and encompasses one another, so there's absolutely no wasted space. I mean don't even get me started on how it's gonna be to characterize the other characters around this

I don't wanna talk about the other characters too much either because that's spoilers, but you can probably take a gandar based on my notes.

And oh my god this is just on the theme of the faults that come with "soulmates" and "true love" and all that, and how even magical destined relationships still require work and effort, and that no one thing or person solves all your problems. And that's not even TOUCHING the shit on trauma and scars. I didn't think it was even possible for me to talk about botw without touching on that, ha. Ah well, I've been talking for too long.
