We try not to get political around here but in light of recent events, I gotta say something—

I am begging you to keep these companies accountable for their censorship bull.

Implementing AI tools to scan your stuff (no I don’t care what their “reason” is), not allowing sexual or graphic content to be shared is unacceptable in terms of free speech and the right to privacy.

Look at me: the only thing these companies understand is clicks bc clicks = money. You are gonna protect your wellbeing by:

1. Downloading all your fanfiction onto your PC hard drive, get it off google docs, yes all of it.

2. Download a document editor that is not Microsoft Office either, there are free ones who respect your privacy, I use LibreOffice for PC. Now you have an actual hardline editor that does not require internet and does not log your activity. Your words are yours, finally.

3. You’re gonna get an encrypted email service, there are free ones, I like Proton bc my mailing list is small but there are others.

4. Make that email the one attached to your fanfic hosting website of choice, get google out of your business

5. Make a mailing list of your alpha/beta readers, and exchange documents in emails like the olden days bc it’s one of the few forms of communication that can actually be private and protected. But do not send with, do not send to—a Google Mail address.

6. Don’t ever. Touch. Google Docs. Again. Dont send your documents with Google Mail. Don’t do your research on Google.com. Don’t give them the clicks, don’t let their ads get runtime, tank their traffic, hit them where it hurts

If they don’t give us what we want, we don’t use their service. Period.

I have a headcanon that my courier is from a small Islamic town/community near shady sands. I'm not sure whether the ncr would consider them tribals, bc they have a distinct culture outside of that of the mainstream ncr citizens, but they aren't indigenous (iirc the great khans are similar, bc they came from vault dwellers, and I doubt the vault dwellers in question were actually turkic or mongolian given how small that diaspora is). Do you have any thoughts on what a tribal actually is or means in postwar america?

Canonically, Shady Sands was founded by one group of former inhabitants of Vault 15, and other groups from the vault became the Khans, Jackals, and Vipers.

As far as how the label "tribal" is applied in canon, it's not incredibly clear. When Caesar, House, or the NCR speak of "tribals" it's often perjorative, referring to groups they deem uncivilized; more broadly, it's frequently used to refer to any distinct cultural group that lacks formal government and is self-sufficient.

Anthropologically speaking, a tribe is a group linked by social, economic, religious, or blood ties, with a common culture and dialect—which covers a range of post-war societies and could very well encompass the society you described. Of course, there are still certain connotations associated with the terms (especially "tribal") both irl and in the game that you may want to avoid, especially if you're incorporating Islam and potentially MENA/MENASA diaspora.

I don't mean to suggest you wouldn't do your due diligence, and you've obviously given this a lot of thought, but since we're talking about how it relates to canon and the precedents Fallout sets wrt its fictional tribes range from thoughtless to abhorrent, you may prefer to refer to your society by a different term than to adopt the baggage that canon has attached to tribe.

Josh Sawyer has explained that, in Honest Hearts at least, the tribes were meant to be made up of descendents of diverse ethnic backgrounds, and I imagine that was likely the intent in the other games. However (and to his credit, JS owns up to this in the linked post), the end result still played into a lot of Western stereotypes of Indigenous Peoples, particularly Indigenous Peoples of North America.

Of course the problems didn't begin or end with Honest Hearts—from New Vegas' Blackfoots of Arizona (not to be confused with the irl Blackfoot Nation, whose traditional lands comprise what is now Alberta, Canada, and Montana, U.S.) to the Whachutu tribals of Peoria (from Fallout Tactics), whose name is a reference to the fictional African tribe called the Wachootoo from Ace Ventura, there are a ton of examples of how not to handle a topic like this in a culturally sensitive/respectful way.

I'm glad that the dev team at Obsidian is taking criticism of these depictions to heart and involving more sensitivity readers, but unfortunately there's a lot of shit baked into the Fallout canon that anyone making derivative works has to navigate with extreme care.

I promise you're not gonna pass away if you use up what you have before buying something new and anyone who looks down on someone for actually wearing their clothes for longevity n getting their money's worth isn't somebody you wanna be around anyway

Hey my lovelies! I’m so sorry for being so inactive here! I’m honestly trying to get a new phone because this one is not allowing me to do shit anymore, it doesn’t even allow the apps that I use to edit my aesthetics to work, it keeps lagging like crazy, keeps telling me that my storage is full when I basically deleted almost everything already and lately I can’t even save pictures anymore. Unfortunately, curseforge is the only EA affiliated website where we can upload/download cc in a safe way. I hope that in the future, thanks to user complaints, we can have other alternatives 🙏

I don't want to support any type of violence either, but the only way to do that effectively would be to stop playing/buying the sims while they are affiliated with companies that allegedly finance the war.

In our daily lives all of us inevitably use services from other corporations that may be connected to the conflict (food, electronics, transport...). It is very difficult to separate ourselves from everything... but I believe that everyone is doing the best they can to help in their own ways, like you spreading awareness 😇

What do we do for Crow Month? Host or attend a Crow Party, either a private one with your friends or an open one in a public place like a park or a library event room.

What is a Crow Party? It's time for everyone in attendance to wear black- the fancier the outfit the better, but casual is ok too- and to deck themselves out in silly amounts of shiny things and jewelry.

What do you do at a Crow Party? Bring little treasures like neat rocks, beads, marbles, or any other sort of shiny object, to swap and trade! Also play board games, card games, or just bring a book to read and vibe with your fellow Crow Party people.

How can I tell people about my open Crow Party? I've made a pdf flier, you can download it from google docs here or dropbox here. Print out and post wherever you think people will notice it!

Half Moon Manicure Set

@therococoprometheus and I teamed up to bring you a set inspired by 1930's nail polish ads ! On my side of this collab you'll find cc nails perfectly suited for 20's, 30's and 40's looks. In the West, in the 19th and early 20th century, nails were usually cared for and tinted using faintly colored oils or powders that had to be buffed into the nail to achieve a slightly rosier and shinier look. At least by 1917 there was also "nail white", used to get a whiter nail end. Indeed the sought after look in the late 10's and 20's was a pink shiny nails with light contrasting sole and ends. The white nail ends as a beauty standart was pretty classist as it was initially a way to show you didn't belong to the manual laborers (...or at least give the appearance of it) who usually had to dirty their hands (and nails) at work. When liquid nail polish became more widely available in the 20's, this look was emulated by applying the polish solely to the middle of the nail in a crescent shape, and such giving us the half moon manicure an iconic style sported by about every fashionable lady from the late 20s to the late 30s. By the 40's, the half moon manicure started to decline in popularity, the most fashionable looks being either fully painted nails or a version of the half moon manicure with painted ends. By then longer nails were also more popular as can be seen on the likes of Rita Hayworth or Marlene Dietrich. Those nail polishes were quite shiny and a bit sheer so I tried my best to replicate these characteristics in my own cc. The color palette for these cc nails is also directly taken from old nail polish ads.
