Matty + paper clips
So I love Matty, but there is one thing I really don't like that she does, and I've not seen anyone mention it but it bothers me a lot so I'm going to say it myself.
When she first comes in, she tells Mac to get up, which makes sense, and then tells him to "put the toy away" in reference to the paper clip he's been fidgeting with since before she walked in. A few episodes later, he's fidgeting with one again she she gives him a look, so he again stands up and puts it down - this one unfinished.
And then the paper clips in the bowl on the table disappear for the remainder of season 1 and don't show up again until 2x13. He even says Matty "banned" them in 2x10. Matty gives him paper clips for Christmas, now that he's proved his way "works." And Mac can then fidget with them again. And in the time that he doesn't have them, he stands in positions that lock his arms (eg crossed in front of his chest or at parade rest) and often switches positions as if he doesn't know how to stand.
I assume that they just wanted Mac to have his signature paper clips back, as I don't see anything specific in the show that triggered the switch back (besides Matty's decision, if that even counts), but it bothers me that he was shamed for doing something that helps him focus (and even helps on missions!) when it does no harm to anyone else, and it was not really addressed. Like se knows he just does it to focus and still it's marked as 'bad' until he proves himself. Mac is ND coded in some ways, this being a major one, and it was a weird sort of ableism never cared about. Did anyone else see this?

Finally found a good picrew to make my Night In The Woods s/i thanks to the very Mae-esque @highcicada !!!
Noelle Donada aka Mae's love interest and incognito even to himself eldritch horror!!!Noelle is transmasc genderfluid and bigender, audhd, punk(afro, solar and pastel)and a part of Mae's childhood best friends group! He's t4t with her romantically(transfem Mae is canon and so's black Mae,i would know✊🏼)and platonic t4t with Bea,Gregg and Angus and was a troubled kid on the same level as Mae but staying at Possum Springs gave him the opportunity to learn about punk culture with Gregg and find a proper outlet to his home life and mental problems,Noelle being a divorcee kid with a snowbunny chaser deadbeat dad and an abusive racist white mom.So he went from sardonic goth tomboy to anarchistic femme girlfaggot and has a part time job at his Abuela's hardware store.Mae and Noelle got that 'everybody can tell they're in love except them because it's so natural for them to show it they don't think to hide it' kinda love, him and Bea are tight too and he helps her and Mae fix the strain in their relathionship,he helped Gregg accept being trans and gay and they call eachother brothers and Angus is closest to him out of non-Gregg characters at the start!!The eldritch part is he liked messing around as a kid so much it got him in trouble with the universe and thus cursed to hold him back but he was so young he dosen't remember it but the effects are still always there
Nitw is very important to me and personal because i see so much of myself in Mae and that includes finding the game when i dropped out of school because it was too hard on my neurodivergent traumatized ass :') Didn't even make it to college but hey,at least i got the Noelle Donada route irl!!

Drew that thing I was thinking about- now, what is this about Mae and Gregg and Cold and Contrarian parallels? (Looking at you very politely)
Him melting aomsksjdxkdoke. so cute <3 Augh. Thank you so much for the contrahero, I’m love them T^T
Now– onto the Gregg&Mae and Contra&Cold parallels– *cracks knuckles* (warning: long ramble ahead)
The most obvious similarities is how dismissive all these characters are of danger and death. One of the first things Mae does when she comes back to town is climb to the wire lines so that she can go over a fence. And before that, she almost got crushed by some tree trunks and this is her reaction:
And on your first encounter (and Mae’s reencounter) with Gregg, those two easily fall back into a familiar bit: listing off horrible things that could’ve happened to the other one, seemingly trying to one-up each other in tragedy levels (that ‘too bad…’ game). To these two, danger, risk of death and injury, it’s all entertainment. Something fun to do with your closest friend. Each of Gregg’s hang out is a dangerous and illegal activity that Mae is happy to go along with (smashing lightbulbs with bats, firing a crossbow on a statue or birds, the knife fight, stealing an animatronic, etc, etc, etc).
Just from this, you can already see where the parallels start. Much like Mae and Gregg, Cold and Contrarian also don’t really care for danger, not really believing consequences are a thing, and going along with whatever would be the most fun.
There’s a very crucial difference though, and it’s that Mae and Gregg are actual people that grew up in a community full of other people; and I think looking into their character arcs more thoroughly could really help to see how Contra and Cold could develop in the real world, or even the kinda people they could be if they were always humans.
First, Gregg:
When you first meet him in Snack Falcon, he’s incredibly energetic and excited to see Mae, happy stimming, screaming, and immediately deciding they need to do a band practice. Those are the first things we learn about Gregg: energetic, impulsive, has a bit of a morbid humor, and really missed Mae. And after meeting with the rest of the band, Bea and Angus, he’s apparently the only one there who missed Mae; both Angus and Bea seem more bemused than enthusiastic, and Casey (someone both Mae and Gregg mention fondly) is nowhere to be found.
That immediately presents Gregg as Mae’s main support, besides her parents, back in Possum Springs, since everyone in town seems to dislike and distrust her for one thing or another she did in the past, but Gregg never seem to care. He’s on the same wavelength as Mae, and because of that, Mae thinks fondly of him. In the midst of all the mess that was dropping out of college and going back home, hanging out with Gregg, doing stupid and illegal shit is a reliable, and maybe even cathartic, source of comfort.
At least– that’s what Mae was hoping for. But Gregg is planning to move out with his boyfriend, Angus, sometime in the future.
And when you think about it– that’s perfectly fair. Gregg is a queer man, heavily implied to be neurodivergent (bipolar is mentioned at one point in the game), living in a conservative small town; of course he’d want to leave as soon as he could. And it’s not like it’s easy for him either, he knows what kind struggles they’ll run it, Possum Springs may suck, but it’s familiar and where everyone he knows is. But he HAS to go, it’s the only way he can grow. (Let’s shelf this for later for now).
And not only that, but much like Mae, Gregg’s also dealing with his own mental issues.
With some more prodding from Mae, we learn that Gregg and Angus have been arguing, and it’s really heaving on Gregg, making him feel like he’s not good enough. Paraphrasing his own words– “Maybe I’m inconsiderate. Maybe I’m not good. I’m just parking lot trash. I’ve known it all along; I’ve got no future if it was just me.”
And that’s what he’s scared of. Being with Angus gave him hope and a future to look forward to, when before, he was most likely just trudging along and whatever happens, happens, much like Mae is doing for the entire game. But now, he has a future, and someone he cares for. And he’s terrified of screwing it up, of losting the one thing, failing the one person he so badly wants to do right by (*gestures vaguely towards ContraHero*).
And Mae doesn’t really understand. She doesn’t know what it is like to have something to worry about, or a future to prepare for. She went to college, yes, but her heart was never in it, she only went along with what her parents wanted and as soon as it got too bad for her to handle, she dipped and went back to Possum Springs, where everythings more simple. Except, it isn’t anymore. Bea hates her, her parents are disappointed in hee, Gregg will be moving out soon, and everyone remembers what she did to that kid in the softball game.
Speaking of–
Let’s talk about Mae’s reputation in the town.
(sounds familiar........ 🤔)
We immediately catch up that Mae was a troublemaker in town by how everyone talks to her. Her aunt mall cop already sounds exhausted (if unsurprised) after seeing that Mae jumped over the fence instead of going the longer way around to the town’s entrance. Mae is known for stealing, vandalizing, causing trouble to the elders, and, more predominantly, of sending a kid to the hospital back in high school (where the ‘killer nickname came from). That last one is treated as one of the main mysteries from Mae’s past, together with the reason she dropped out of college. No one in town, and we, the player, really know why she did that, and Lori M (the rat girl up there^) mention their mothers warning kids to stay away from her in case she snaps again.
Mae, for the most part, acts unaffected by this, and seems to embrace her troublemaker status; in a confrontation with an old man that was directly affected by Mae’s behavior in the past, you have the option to double down and insult him back, basically confirming his statement about how Mae hasn’t changed, and is still just the same kid that’s always searching for trouble.
And, yeah, during the day, with other people around, Mae acts like it doesn’t affect her, says she enjoys being seen as a miscreant, and plays into what everyone expects of her. But alone? There’s this very poignant scene where Mae is standing in front of a mirror, preparing for a party, where all her insecurities and self-consciousness comes to light:
(note: the other option you can choose in the second pic is: “You don’t like people. Clearly.”)
We see that not only is Mae self-conscious about her appearance, she DOES care about what people think. She craves connection and a community, that’s why she came back to Possum Springs, but for some reason, it seems like she just can’t hold on to a relationship for long before fucking up.
She’s impulsive, doesn’t have much of a filter, and struggles to understand other people’s perspectives. We see that clearly with Bea. It was Bea’s dream to go to college, but because of personal issues, she can’t; and Mae, someone who GOT that chance, simply threw it all away and dismissed it as ‘college just wasn’t for me’ upon coming back, and expects everything to be as it always was.
Mae isn’t an understanding person. She tries, and she really wants to help the people around her, but she just isn’t very good at understanding people, and will often run her mouth at the worst moments. Bea’s hangouts has some of the best (or worst, ig) examples of that. I’m not gonna get too deep into what happens, but, uhm. It gets BAD, and those moments can make you really unsympathetic towards Mae; but you gotta respect this game for not pulling its punches when showing off its protagonist’s worst traits (and honestly, it made me love Mae all the more, she’s so beautifully flawed).
You can see the familiarities to Cold? Struggle with understanding others, impulsive decisions made with the main goal of entertaining yourself, no sense of danger, disregard of own life, no filter– the main difference is that Mae is much more emotional and prone to snapping, but I feel like their core struggles are very similar.
I could go more into how Mae’s derealization is also very similar to how Cold views the world, but while Cold embraces that feeling as a reason to why you can disregard pain and consequences, that thought terrifies Mae and the kind of person that makes her (it doesn’t make her a bad person, btw, she’s mentally ill and traumatized, but ‘bad person’ is what she internalizes after being told so for so long), but anyway aaaaaaaaahhhhhh this got so long and pretty rambly akaksjsmsjd)djsjdj. Hopefully it made sense though? This has been turning around in my head for days now, glad to finally put it out.

Yet another Boyd Drake Propaganda Post from yours truly, specifically for the @eggcrackerbracket tournament this time:
First of all, he’s a robot Pinocchio allusion who decided he was a definitely real boy and then he WAS one. We all know robots and Pinocchio allusions are so trans of gender, and so being both makes him extra trans of gender!
Literally uses the phrase ‘I’m Boyd, a Definitely Real Boy!’ to introduce himself. 🥺🥺🥺
The entirety of Astro BOYD involves him fighting to be seen as a regular boy rather than a killing machine. He even fights against the programming of an evil scientist trying to use him as a weapon and MAKES THE CHOICE to be a real boy. His transgenderism is so strong, he can even fight against evil programming that is trying to control him and WIN.
Astro BOYD as a whole could very well be an allegory for what it’s like to be neurodivergent, in addition to being an allegory for being transgender. Him and Huey Duck are clearly autistic-coded, and the phrase ‘He’s a kid like me, just wired a little differently’ is used.
They’re also best friends and spend a chunk of the episode taking a tour of furry Tokyo to do research for a shared special interest. (Also I like to imagine it doubles as a date for them, because cute 🥺).
Huey also spends the entire episode reaffirming Boyd’s desire to be seen as a real boy. He’s the best triplet for this reason alone.
Less happy fact about the episode, Boyd’s creator ends up misgendering him as ‘it’ for a spell and reject his claims of being a real boy because of some stuff that happens within the episode.
But it’s fine because he’s going up to bat for him by the end and his reaffirmation of Boyd’s chosen identity is what ends up saving the day in the end. (Also Gyro is pretty trans-coded himself so we’ll let it slide but it still took me a while to come around on him as a character 😒).
Even before this episode aired, I already had such a soft spot for Boyd. I literally only started watching the show because I saw GIFsets of a previous episode with him, and he was just so PRECIOUS (and gave me Angus McDonald vibes) so I knew I had to watch the show just so I could get to his debut episode. And then Astro BOYD came along and cemented his place as my absolute favorite character in the show, and probably one of my favorite characters of all time.
Anyway I was lightly dipping my toes into a they/them enby identity before this episode dropped, but after months of having Boyd as a comfort character after the episode aired, a LOT of things began to click for me internally. And now here I am, a he/they transmasc with one of my chosen names being Boyd. (Listen I know technically I was already not-cis before that, but he still absolutely played a big part in delivering the final blow to my egg and helping me settle comfortably into a transmasc identity).
Also one final fact; Scrooge McDuck inspired Astro Boy, the first anime character. And then Ducktales made Boyd, an homage to Astro Boy as a whole. So Boyd is technically only a few steps away from the invention of anime. He deserves some respect for that fact alone from those of you who got their egg cracked by an anime character.
Okay I’m done now. Vote for the boy who cracked my egg because he is so polite and sweet and a definitely real boy and he deserves to at least get past round one 🥺🥺🥺
Also also if you want, watch Ducktales 2017 because it’s pretty fun. Or just watch Astro BOYD, because it’s the best episode. Sorry DWD fans, I know where my loyalties lie.
Also ALSO ALSO in case a DT fan who doesn’t know me might ask why I said Boyd DRAKE:
(Okay now I’m really, REALLY done for now, promise. Mainly bc this post is getting super long and I have a few others drafted before the contest has even started. #BOYDSWEEP)
#Hayley Speaks#Ducktales 2017#Boyd#Boyd Drake#eggcracketbracket#Long Post#BOYDSWEEP#They gave the okay so LET'S GOOOOO

Hello...Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks...
Hi !!
I wouldn't say I necessarily have a straightforward top 10 list as such ... But I'm not one to pass up and opportunity to infodump on anyone who'll indulge me !
I hope this is what you're looking for and, uh, buckle up. I'll include a TL;DR with each character to make your life easier, because knowing me, this is gonna get LONG.
Also potential spoilers for: Dungeon Meshi, Night in the Woods, Berserk, Devilman Crybaby, Arcane, Jujutsu Kaisen, Dimension 20: Fantasy High, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind.
Also note that Berserk and Devilman Crybaby are both NSFW sources. I don't mention anything explicit here, but be mindful when looking into it.
Laios Touden (Dungeon Meshi)
TL;DR: Excellent neurodivergent representation, complex and unique in how interesting he is, also just me IRL
I'll be honest in saying he isn't actually my favourite Dungeon Meshi character (that's probably Chilchuck), but he IS the one I think about the most.
I'm firmly of the opinion that Laios is intentionally written to be neurodivergent-coded, and I say this because he's incredibly nuanced and interesting in the way he portrays symptoms and signs of autism. Most canon autistic representation I see can be boiled down to "slightly quirky" with a dash of the same 3 symptoms, and the background of that, Laios is a breath of fresh air. He's socially inept, but not at all cold or inexpressive - quite the opposite, he's open and enthusiastic and optimistic. He's obsessive, not in a quirky jokey way, nor in the way of being a savant that knows everything off the top of his head - he genuinely feels like he's learning about his interest and ENJOYS learning about it, rather than being robotic in his hyperfixation. On top of that, the thing he's hyperfixated on is EXTREMELY realistic for a neurodivergent person - many of us do find interest in animals, in cryptids, in other living beings that are, well, other, because we spend our whole lives being alienated and separate from our peers and we seek that comfort in other places. Monsters are straightforward, they don't play mindgames. They are powerful, they don't let others push them around (Laios, mind, is also powerful - but he's a human, so his strength alone has never been enough to protect him). And after all, humans already hate him, they already treat him as an unwanted freak. Why shouldn't he find solace in creatures that are treated the same way he is?
I could go on and on about how amazing he is, but honestly a lot of what I have to say could be posts of their own and we'd be here all day. I'll say also that he's just ... Plain and honest relatable. I have not projected so hard onto a character in a long time.
Angus DeLaney (Night in the Woods)
TL;DR: Comfort Character Extraordinare
If Laios is good to my brain because he reminds me of myself, Angus is good to my brain because he reminds me of my boyfriend. This, I cannot deny.
He isn't the most complex character in the world, nor even in NitW - yet I think there's more to him than people give him credit for. I think he's excellent in filling the role he's given - a friend-of-a-friend, a near-stranger, the person in the friend group our protagonist is in, someone she knows, and yet doesn't, likes, and yet doesn't really vibe with. He's nuanced and deep, has a life of his own, and honestly I'm almost glad they didn't explore it fully. By having Mae only get a tiny glimpse into his life, after knowing him for so long and yet never really spending time with him, we get the sense that people are people whether or not they're in Mae's life. It gives a greater sense of depth to the world offered to us by the game. Mae's close friends she knows well aren't the only ones going through tough things, everyone has their own story, and sometimes she only gets a tiny hint of that, and sometimes she gets none at all. I think it's very true to life, and very smart.
As for Angus specifically, well. He's smart, warm, kind. He doesn't let his cynicism get in the way of his friends fun, nor does he let it stop him from taking their worries seriously. He shows affection through cooking, he makes dumb nerdy jokes, he's canonically more charismatic than you'd think, he wants to take care of everyone and doesn't know how to take care of himself, and he has a fantastic ass.
He reminds me of my boyfriend. What more can I ask for.
Griffith (Berserk) & Ryo Asuka (Devilman Crybaby)
TL;DR: Incredibly nuanced villains that I want to put on a little dish and dissect. Themes of light and purity as something evil, of good intentions (Griffith) and love (Ryo) as something horrifying.
I figure I could just combine these two, given how much they've impacted each-other's writing.
Griffith AND Ryo are both infinitely nuanced characters, in ways that are complimentary and yet still different enough.
I've made a few posts about Griffith (if only because I recently finished Berserk), and my opinion on him can be summarised as such: I think he's the best villain in fiction, in that he is afforded nuance and complexity, without having to take away his teeth and make him ultimately pathetic, unintimidating, or a sexyman. I think the most interesting part of Griffith is his politics, his drive to change the world, his willingness to sacrifice everything to the greater good to the point where it becomes apocalyptic. It's fascinating to watch a character be so wrapped in genuine and honest good intentions, to the point of destroying everything.
I don't think I've talked much about Ryo (I should rewatch Crybaby), which is really a shame because he's no less interesting. He takes an aspect of Griffith that I haven't talked much about (rather, Griffith takes an aspect of Ryo) - obsessive love and devotion to the point of destruction - and amps it up to an infinite degree. Unlike Griffith, who pushes aside his love for his political motivation, Ryo destroys everything and anything in his path to the one he loves - including that very person. He's possessive and obsessive, in a way that does end up feeling genuine, and his entire humanity is concentrated on his feelings to this one person.
Together, these characters represent a trope that I personally love - purity, beauty and light as something evil, something vile, something overwhelming and possessive (as contrasted by something dirty, something crude, something rough being real and human and kind).
I just find them fascinating.
Ekko (Arcane)
TL;DR: mmmm community centric anarchist punk king.
This is possibly the most self indulgent one. Arcane is a wonderful show entirely full of fascinating characters I love, and each one of them deserves an amount of words that even I don't possess to describe their greatness.
Ekko is no less cool and interesting for having less screen time, but if we're just being honest here for a second ...
I just love his vibe.
I love that he was a rowdy, shitty little kid that antagonised everyone he could. I love that as he grew, he got more serious, took on an air of responsibility, but he didn't lose his friendliness, his humour, his artistry. I love that he prioritizes fun and growth and community, not just survival. I love that he has authority as a leader, not through fear but through confidence, through respect. I love his scene with Vi, where he bites back at her for the first time, I love their hug, I love their bond. I love his fight with Jinx, I love that for a moment they're just kids playing a game, I love seeing the reality crash over him like a wave. I love the little tidbits we get of him as a kid, playing dumb pranks, practicing his punches.
And to be completely clear: HE IS THE ONLY CHARACTER THAT WAS CORRECT.
Heimerdinger, Jayce, Silco, Vander, Mel, every single leader in this show is either too preoccupied trying to preserve broken pieces of the past or they're speeding towards a future they don't understand.
Ekko says NONE OF THAT SHIT, takes up the punk anarchist mantel, and says "I am going to take care of the injured, the indisposed, the homeless, the sick, the children, because blind ideals mean nothing in the face of real poverty and struggle".
...Which is why I say it's self indulgent on my part. It's just because I fully agree with his ideologies.
Geto Suguru (Jujutsu Kaisen)
TL;DR: Another villain I absolutely love analyzing and dissecting. Beautifully written ideology and motivation that is fully understandable even if it's something any sane human would viscerally disagree with.
I've written post upon post on Geto, so I won't get too into it, but I still wanted to mention him. Another reason I won't talk too much here is because I've ultimately fallen out of love with JJK - sad, but true. In my opinion, the most interesting part of the show was, in fact, Geto.
Geto's ideology is incredibly well written. So, so many little details end up playing into it, it's set up so carefully and expertly that in the end it's incredibly easy to see how he ended up in the place he did. The death of his friends, the responsibility of Mimiko and Nanako, the way he's treated, the way his best friend is treated... Some of these things are big, some more subtle, but they all lay a brick in the foundation of one of the best villain arcs I can name. And if you can't tell, I'm a big fan of villains that genuinely believe what they preach. There's an air of sincerity about him, despite being a manipulative asshole, he isn't a selfish one.
I just think he's fascinating.
Fabian Aramais Seacaster (Dimension 20: Fantasy High)
TL;DR: Incredibly entertaining, and has informed the way I play my TTRPG characters.
A bit of a random one, and a more light-hearted one - I just love this silly little man.
Fabian is so unabashedly loud, silly, over the top. He makes such obvious, catastrophic mistakes, often after delivering such confident speeches about how awesome he is. And then he's allowed to have quiet moments - he can be somber, soft, sad, tragic. He loves his friends, but he can't bring himself to be obvious about it, but he wants so badly to express it. He has repressed trauma that we don't really get told - instead it's expressed through every desperate cry for attention and every subsequent moment of quiet reflection.
I've been playing TTRPGs for a little while now, but Fabian has fundamentally inspired me to be more confident, more nuanced, to take up more space at my table, and to not be scared to change the way my characters act based on the scene and mood and circumstance.
I just think he's neat !
Panacotta Fugo (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind + Purple Haze Feedback)
TL;DR: An underrated character that showcases burnout, gifted kid syndrome, and abandonment issues in a way I find particularly painful.
God. Where do I even start.
Fugo speaks very deeply to some of my own trauma. The gutteral, albeit brief depiction of gifted child syndrome and the subsequent burnout that follows it felt incredibly, palpably real not only in the episodes we see his backstory in, but also in his general behaviour. In the way he still tries to act proper and composed, in the barely-restrained rage that bubbles over once in a while, in the severe guilt felt through these outbursts. Pretty much any time Fugo is on screen is a testament to his pain and his sheer desire to overcome it, which (as amazing this show is) I can't exactly say for most JJBA characters.
The abandonment issues are more personal to me than I'd like to get too deeply into - suffice it to say, being left behind without a thought, looking at people you came to think of as your family turn their backs on you and walk away, and realising for the first time that you weren't, in fact, a needed and cherished presence in their lives, but rather something easily parted with ... That shit hurts, and it hurts me very personally.
Araki has gone on record stating that he fell in love with Fugo as a character and came to see him as a personal friend. I believe him, if the genuine and subtle care poured into every crevice of his character is anything to go by.
Purple Haze Feedback isn't canon, but it is Araki-approved, and its the exact amount and type of Fugo content I was starving for after his extremely undercut role in part 5.
And I think that's it!
Was that 10? Who knows.
Either way sorry if this isn't what you were looking for - i think one look at my blog will tell you that I'm very prone to infodumping especially as it pertains to character analysis.
And if you read it this far... Holy shit, thank you !!
To be honest as I've fallen out of fandom spaces it's become incredibly hard to come up with characters I actually like, rather than ones I've projected my own stories onto and changed fundamentally.
Playing DND has NOT been helpful, it's increasingly difficult not to spend four hours talking about a PC I made that I really love instead of any actual character haha.
Either way thank you for the ask !! Like I said I love a good opportunity to infodump.

Giant Wave Interview
Giant Wave is a musical project from Will Ryerson. Will is a local Billings resident but has spent some time in Baltimore, cultivating sounds that could certainly fit as an arraignment of the intro song to The Wire. Angus (aka Agnar) asked Will some questions!
Angus: With being a resident of both Baltimore and Billings, are there any other “B” places on earth you are planning to conquer?
Will: I’ve been to Brooklyn many times, it’s okay. Bozeman has some cool folks amidst the boring rich people. My mother and a few friends live in beautiful areas of northern Vermont near Burlington, a place/ area where I’ve also spent quite a bit of time and would consider moving to under the right circumstances. Further afield: Brussels, Burkina Faso, Bali… would go to any/all without hesitation.
Q: If you only had to choose one between the base guitar or the synthesizer, which one would you stick with?
A: Bass guitar has endlessly funky possibilities that I most fully explored as bassist in the band Chiffon (back in Bmore). But synths are more versatile for sonic world-building. Is this a boring answer?
Q: What are the similarities of playing experimental electronic music in front of a crowd and reading story books to preschool children?
A: Maintaining the listener’s attention and choosing the correct volume.
Q: Out of all of your previous music projects both solo and as part of a group, is there any one particular release that sticks out to you personally?
A: Probably “Natural Motion”, the final album from my old indie-pop band Other Colors (released in 2016). Although I’ve moved on from it + that project stylistically, it was the first time that I, with supreme assistance and invaluable collaboration from bandmates, successfully realized a big-picture musical vision in a recording studio. Despite failing to catapult us to indie music stardom, I’m still very proud of it.
Q: What are your opinions on the 2001 cult classic Freddy Got Fingered staring Tom Green?
A: A manic tour-de-force from a wildly creative neurodivergent hero. There’s a strong anti-capitalist current throughout, I think, which is kind of buried underneath the surface-level madness. Sausages!
Catch Giant Wave at the Agnar hosted Noise Mini-Fest / Show (we really need to work on our packaging) at the North Park Rec Center at 3pm on Saturday, the 10th!

Spoilers for Episode 1: Everyone Wanted to Be on This Ship below the read-more.
My family sort of stumbled across this, and we knew that the premise didn't lend itself to a totally 100% conflict free show, but there's almost this feeling of not trusting that the incident that starts the show will be enough tension. Ark One is a spaceship in the future, and an unknown event damaging the ship triggers people waking up from their cryo-pods before they were supposed to [one year from their destination instead of two weeks]. Cue escaping the damaged cryo-pod bay, not everyone is un-cryo-ed, and there's serious questions about how they're supposed to make it for a year without the supplies for that amount of time.
This should sound stressful enough to tide us over for a season, or whatever, but so much happens:
The officers and scientist mentors were almost entirely in their own separate cryo-pod bay, which broke off. This means the majority of the higher ups are dead.
Three lieutenants were with the people who survived. Cue leadership struggles (i.e. one person making a unilateral decision versus actually communicating with each other, let alone voting on it).
A stowaway!
- Due to a series of events, he is among six people who die during a low oxygen event.
A case of stolen identity!
- He's murdered by an unknown person at the end of the episode. Which means we now have to figure out who murdered him.
Of note: The surplus food and water in case anything bad happened after everyone woke up was in a storage bay that was damaged and lost. Angus (aka Plant Dude) has a plan to use the biodome thing intended for the planet in a storage bay to grow food, but it's eating into the potable water supply. He also mysteriously smuggled on a tonne of soil, which is definitely convenient now.
The water recycling thing is being worked on; I think it was also intended for planet use. The primary takeaway is that Waste Management is working on this project, which is very important and literally will be life saving. And yet. Do you think that making sort of condescending remarks about the smartest person on the ship being assigned to that division sounds like Waste Management is considered important?
Don't worry, Alicia is a neurodivergent-coded genius (complete with poor social skills and an inability to stop talking) who gets reassigned to Chief of Life Support because she basically knew how to fix a computer problem. (The guy who's identity was stolen clearly wasn't there to fix it.) But, like, it amounted to turning it off and back on, so I kind of feel like we didn't really need an expert to solve this particular problem.
<Wanders back in with another thing>
The surviving doctor orders different medication injections while trying to save Harris (the stowaway), and there's a very convenient screen with different organ systems that go red during failure. However, his death is presented as 'passed out from lack of oxygen', 'taken to med bay and receives oxygen', and 'heart failure leads to multi-system failure'.
The way it's shown leads - at least for me - to an impression that actually getting the heart going again might have been the answer. It's just that this med bay doesn't include a defibrillator and no one does CPR. Now, I am absolutely not a medical person, and I have no idea what any of the injections called for were supposed to do (... if they weren't just fictional names). It just seemed a bit weird.
