Thoughts on a Valentine's Elsbeth with both Kaya and Elsbeth's "first but not their last" and plenty of other surprises
okay portal zoom-out now it makes sense
so it's diegetic music
a little fourth-wall-breaking-y-audience-surrogate-y stuff
nice misleading with the "I knew it. It's love" in the trailer
hell of a way to witness a murder
a little social commentary there?
Elsbeth dressing for the holidays as usual
yay, Edwards again (feels like she's gotten used to Elsbeth)
more evidence for neurodivergent Elsbeth with her not getting sarcasm
okay this is getting ridiculous
so if there's no sound why was he playing
finally realizes she can just write it down instead of interrogation charades
mind on the murder, girl
not how I would have called the spelling
progressive of this show to show a guy liking "Barbie pink"
duty (and actual partner) calls
sticks out like a sore thumb
"Henry Morgan"'s back (wouldn't be surprised if any Elsbeth watchers watched Forever)
who else thinking there's more to the drug use than meets the eye
Oh hey Cam
Captain being a dad again
oh so Elsbeth wasn't letting them have a moment
aww (guess I know why Gloria Reuben's guest-starring)
Wagner works in mysterious ways
nice change of pace he doesn't have the scarf she does
interrogation looks like it's turning into something more
I'm with you on the musician thing
thank you Elsbeth for stopping the love-ping-pong before it got ridiculous
so her phone was on speaker, I was wondering why he was on the phone but she didn't look like it
jealousy/cheating, hmm, parallel
did you see that Look the girls gave each other
full moon of course
Elsbeth looks him up on Spotify and my heart is melting (dude has a Voice and I love this kind of folk music)
Elsbeth in blue, that's different
okay stop sketch artist
foreshadowing?
okay who dis
person their partner thinks is straight is gay, more parallel?
encrypted messaging app you say
that's how they found him so fast
elevators make me nervous thanks Brilliant Minds
the missing piece and the case just blew up
does Edwards ever emote
Angus made his own little detecting leap
they found the drug tests and hunch was right
Kaya sounds like she's had experience with musicians
whose interrogation is it anyway
good reading the social cues
of course he shows up at the wrong moment
charge your damn phone Elsbeth!
I could feel the venom "fashionable bags are usually tiny"
nice technicallythetruth excuse
she doesn't mind waiting, she gets to snoop
mystery tartan found (and pretty) and there's the mask
bad joke in a villainous monologue
is the captain fucking psychic or Elsbeth fucking magic
nvm he saved her butt
Kayabeth enjoying Valentine's chocolates together
digging Kaya's jacket
he knows their patterns
kinda-date-not-really
of course it's Elsbeth's idea
staking out the Iris
surprise
could tell a kiss was coming
payoff to the fireman thing but he's still only visiting and we would have heard if he was going to be a regular so they can't be The Slowburn Couple
there was no one in that building but how did the lights do the thing, guess another instance of Elsbeth being a bit of an Abed

iā€™ve watched the first four episodes of ghosts s5 and here are my thoughts:
ā€¼ļøSPOILERSā€¼ļø
- the first episode was so funny, i love unhinged alison and pat being unprankable
- omg baby cooper, omg potential ghost seeing baby. i cannot wait for the christmas special
- SCOTTISH THOMAS??? THOMAS ANGUS THORNE!??
- since the captain was the meditator in julian and patā€™s north/south debate i am claiming for the midlands. one of us one of us
- also i am shocked that pat and julian have not had this argument before, tory hating pat is real to me
- kitty thinking sheā€™s pregnant when sheā€™s really just displaying signs of neurodivergence, i love you babygirl
- also robin fucking his way through generations of ghosts is so funny to me, i need a full episode dedicated to his former lovers
- fanny saying she admired alisonā€™s spunk when they first met šŸ˜šŸ˜ bc bc she never got to be outspoken in her life guyssss iā€™m so sad
- the kitty death episode was not as sad as anticipated which is making me worried for whatever theyā€™re going to do to the captain
- the thomas, julian, pat and the captain investigation squad was everything to me, they love her so much you guys šŸ˜šŸ˜
- also kitty now has a canon surname!!! and sheā€™s directly related to isabelle which we could have guessed but itā€™s still exciting to me
- iā€™m becoming more a of kitmas shipper by the second
- was not anticipating the eleanor and barclay redemption?? idk how to feel about it tbh especially the eleanor thing. like iā€™m glad kitty wasnā€™t murdered but idk it felt off
- also kitty thinking she was spider-man šŸ˜šŸ˜
- mike worrying about being a dad was sweet, heā€™s gonna be so good (probably)
- BABY SOPHIE AND HUMPHREY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- got to cross seeing another pre alison ghost off my bingo card, im guessing that was godrick??
- robin and sophie šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ him wanting to comfort her when her nanny died but not being able to broke me
- canā€™t believe mike pulled the thing off with the french lady, good for him
- also who did robin learn russian from??? i need more robin lore and i know weā€™re not gonna get it šŸ˜šŸ˜

Drew that thing I was thinking about- now, what is this about Mae and Gregg and Cold and Contrarian parallels? (Looking at you very politely)
Him melting aomsksjdxkdoke. so cute <3 Augh. Thank you so much for the contrahero, Iā€™m love them T^T
Nowā€“ onto the Gregg&Mae and Contra&Cold parallelsā€“ *cracks knuckles* (warning: long ramble ahead)
The most obvious similarities is how dismissive all these characters are of danger and death. One of the first things Mae does when she comes back to town is climb to the wire lines so that she can go over a fence. And before that, she almost got crushed by some tree trunks and this is her reaction:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And on your first encounter (and Maeā€™s reencounter) with Gregg, those two easily fall back into a familiar bit: listing off horrible things that couldā€™ve happened to the other one, seemingly trying to one-up each other in tragedy levels (that ā€˜too badā€¦ā€™ game). To these two, danger, risk of death and injury, itā€™s all entertainment. Something fun to do with your closest friend. Each of Greggā€™s hang out is a dangerous and illegal activity that Mae is happy to go along with (smashing lightbulbs with bats, firing a crossbow on a statue or birds, the knife fight, stealing an animatronic, etc, etc, etc).
Just from this, you can already see where the parallels start. Much like Mae and Gregg, Cold and Contrarian also donā€™t really care for danger, not really believing consequences are a thing, and going along with whatever would be the most fun.
Thereā€™s a very crucial difference though, and itā€™s that Mae and Gregg are actual people that grew up in a community full of other people; and I think looking into their character arcs more thoroughly could really help to see how Contra and Cold could develop in the real world, or even the kinda people they could be if they were always humans.
First, Gregg:
When you first meet him in Snack Falcon, heā€™s incredibly energetic and excited to see Mae, happy stimming, screaming, and immediately deciding they need to do a band practice. Those are the first things we learn about Gregg: energetic, impulsive, has a bit of a morbid humor, and really missed Mae. And after meeting with the rest of the band, Bea and Angus, heā€™s apparently the only one there who missed Mae; both Angus and Bea seem more bemused than enthusiastic, and Casey (someone both Mae and Gregg mention fondly) is nowhere to be found.
That immediately presents Gregg as Maeā€™s main support, besides her parents, back in Possum Springs, since everyone in town seems to dislike and distrust her for one thing or another she did in the past, but Gregg never seem to care. Heā€™s on the same wavelength as Mae, and because of that, Mae thinks fondly of him. In the midst of all the mess that was dropping out of college and going back home, hanging out with Gregg, doing stupid and illegal shit is a reliable, and maybe even cathartic, source of comfort.
At leastā€“ thatā€™s what Mae was hoping for. But Gregg is planning to move out with his boyfriend, Angus, sometime in the future.
And when you think about itā€“ thatā€™s perfectly fair. Gregg is a queer man, heavily implied to be neurodivergent (bipolar is mentioned at one point in the game), living in a conservative small town; of course heā€™d want to leave as soon as he could. And itā€™s not like itā€™s easy for him either, he knows what kind struggles theyā€™ll run it, Possum Springs may suck, but itā€™s familiar and where everyone he knows is. But he HAS to go, itā€™s the only way he can grow. (Letā€™s shelf this for later for now).
And not only that, but much like Mae, Greggā€™s also dealing with his own mental issues.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
With some more prodding from Mae, we learn that Gregg and Angus have been arguing, and itā€™s really heaving on Gregg, making him feel like heā€™s not good enough. Paraphrasing his own wordsā€“ ā€œMaybe Iā€™m inconsiderate. Maybe Iā€™m not good. Iā€™m just parking lot trash. Iā€™ve known it all along; Iā€™ve got no future if it was just me.ā€
And thatā€™s what heā€™s scared of. Being with Angus gave him hope and a future to look forward to, when before, he was most likely just trudging along and whatever happens, happens, much like Mae is doing for the entire game. But now, he has a future, and someone he cares for. And heā€™s terrified of screwing it up, of losting the one thing, failing the one person he so badly wants to do right by (*gestures vaguely towards ContraHero*).
And Mae doesnā€™t really understand. She doesnā€™t know what it is like to have something to worry about, or a future to prepare for. She went to college, yes, but her heart was never in it, she only went along with what her parents wanted and as soon as it got too bad for her to handle, she dipped and went back to Possum Springs, where everythings more simple. Except, it isnā€™t anymore. Bea hates her, her parents are disappointed in hee, Gregg will be moving out soon, and everyone remembers what she did to that kid in the softball game.
Speaking ofā€“
Letā€™s talk about Maeā€™s reputation in the town.
Tumblr media
(sounds familiar........ šŸ¤”)
We immediately catch up that Mae was a troublemaker in town by how everyone talks to her. Her aunt mall cop already sounds exhausted (if unsurprised) after seeing that Mae jumped over the fence instead of going the longer way around to the townā€™s entrance. Mae is known for stealing, vandalizing, causing trouble to the elders, and, more predominantly, of sending a kid to the hospital back in high school (where the ā€˜killerā€™ nickname came from). That last one is treated as one of the main mysteries from Maeā€™s past, together with the reason she dropped out of college. No one in town, and we, the player, really know why she did that, and Lori M (the rat girl up there^) mention their mothers warning kids to stay away from her in case she snaps again.
Mae, for the most part, acts unaffected by this, and seems to embrace her troublemaker status; in a confrontation with an old man that was directly affected by Maeā€™s behavior in the past, you have the option to double down and insult him back, basically confirming his statement about how Mae hasnā€™t changed, and is still just the same kid thatā€™s always searching for trouble.
And, yeah, during the day, with other people around, Mae acts like it doesnā€™t affect her, says she enjoys being seen as a miscreant, and plays into what everyone expects of her. But alone? Thereā€™s this very poignant scene where Mae is standing in front of a mirror, preparing for a party, where all her insecurities and self-consciousness comes to light:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(note: the other option you can choose in the second pic is: ā€œYou donā€™t like people. Clearly.ā€)
We see that not only is Mae self-conscious about her appearance, she DOES care about what people think. She craves connection and a community, thatā€™s why she came back to Possum Springs, but for some reason, it seems like she just canā€™t hold on to a relationship for long before fucking up.
Sheā€™s impulsive, doesnā€™t have much of a filter, and struggles to understand other peopleā€™s perspectives. We see that clearly with Bea. It was Beaā€™s dream to go to college, but because of personal issues, she canā€™t; and Mae, someone who GOT that chance, simply threw it all away and dismissed it as ā€˜college just wasnā€™t for meā€™ upon coming back, and expects everything to be as it always was.
Mae isnā€™t an understanding person. She tries, and she really wants to help the people around her, but she just isnā€™t very good at understanding people, and will often run her mouth at the worst moments. Beaā€™s hangouts has some of the best (or worst, ig) examples of that. Iā€™m not gonna get too deep into what happens, but, uhm. It gets BAD, and those moments can make you really unsympathetic towards Mae; but you gotta respect this game for not pulling its punches when showing off its protagonistā€™s worst traits (and honestly, it made me love Mae all the more, sheā€™s so beautifully flawed).
You can see the familiarities to Cold? Struggle with understanding others, impulsive decisions made with the main goal of entertaining yourself, no sense of danger, disregard of own life, no filterā€“ the main difference is that Mae is much more emotional and prone to snapping, but I feel like their core struggles are very similar.
I could go more into how Maeā€™s derealization is also very similar to how Cold views the world, but while Cold embraces that feeling as a reason to why you can disregard pain and consequences, that thought terrifies Mae and the kind of person that makes her (it doesnā€™t make her a bad person, btw, sheā€™s mentally ill and traumatized, but ā€˜bad personā€™ is what she internalizes after being told so for so long), but anyway aaaaaaaaahhhhhh this got so long and pretty rambly akaksjsmsjd)djsjdj. Hopefully it made sense though? This has been turning around in my head for days now, glad to finally put it out.

Hello...Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks...
Hi !!
I wouldn't say I necessarily have a straightforward top 10 list as such ... But I'm not one to pass up and opportunity to infodump on anyone who'll indulge me !
I hope this is what you're looking for and, uh, buckle up. I'll include a TL;DR with each character to make your life easier, because knowing me, this is gonna get LONG.
Also potential spoilers for: Dungeon Meshi, Night in the Woods, Berserk, Devilman Crybaby, Arcane, Jujutsu Kaisen, Dimension 20: Fantasy High, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind.
Also note that Berserk and Devilman Crybaby are both NSFW sources. I don't mention anything explicit here, but be mindful when looking into it.
Laios Touden (Dungeon Meshi)
TL;DR: Excellent neurodivergent representation, complex and unique in how interesting he is, also just me IRL
I'll be honest in saying he isn't actually my favourite Dungeon Meshi character (that's probably Chilchuck), but he IS the one I think about the most.
I'm firmly of the opinion that Laios is intentionally written to be neurodivergent-coded, and I say this because he's incredibly nuanced and interesting in the way he portrays symptoms and signs of autism. Most canon autistic representation I see can be boiled down to "slightly quirky" with a dash of the same 3 symptoms, and the background of that, Laios is a breath of fresh air. He's socially inept, but not at all cold or inexpressive - quite the opposite, he's open and enthusiastic and optimistic. He's obsessive, not in a quirky jokey way, nor in the way of being a savant that knows everything off the top of his head - he genuinely feels like he's learning about his interest and ENJOYS learning about it, rather than being robotic in his hyperfixation. On top of that, the thing he's hyperfixated on is EXTREMELY realistic for a neurodivergent person - many of us do find interest in animals, in cryptids, in other living beings that are, well, other, because we spend our whole lives being alienated and separate from our peers and we seek that comfort in other places. Monsters are straightforward, they don't play mindgames. They are powerful, they don't let others push them around (Laios, mind, is also powerful - but he's a human, so his strength alone has never been enough to protect him). And after all, humans already hate him, they already treat him as an unwanted freak. Why shouldn't he find solace in creatures that are treated the same way he is?
I could go on and on about how amazing he is, but honestly a lot of what I have to say could be posts of their own and we'd be here all day. I'll say also that he's just ... Plain and honest relatable. I have not projected so hard onto a character in a long time.
Angus DeLaney (Night in the Woods)
TL;DR: Comfort Character Extraordinare
If Laios is good to my brain because he reminds me of myself, Angus is good to my brain because he reminds me of my boyfriend. This, I cannot deny.
He isn't the most complex character in the world, nor even in NitW - yet I think there's more to him than people give him credit for. I think he's excellent in filling the role he's given - a friend-of-a-friend, a near-stranger, the person in the friend group our protagonist is in, someone she knows, and yet doesn't, likes, and yet doesn't really vibe with. He's nuanced and deep, has a life of his own, and honestly I'm almost glad they didn't explore it fully. By having Mae only get a tiny glimpse into his life, after knowing him for so long and yet never really spending time with him, we get the sense that people are people whether or not they're in Mae's life. It gives a greater sense of depth to the world offered to us by the game. Mae's close friends she knows well aren't the only ones going through tough things, everyone has their own story, and sometimes she only gets a tiny hint of that, and sometimes she gets none at all. I think it's very true to life, and very smart.
As for Angus specifically, well. He's smart, warm, kind. He doesn't let his cynicism get in the way of his friends fun, nor does he let it stop him from taking their worries seriously. He shows affection through cooking, he makes dumb nerdy jokes, he's canonically more charismatic than you'd think, he wants to take care of everyone and doesn't know how to take care of himself, and he has a fantastic ass.
He reminds me of my boyfriend. What more can I ask for.
Griffith (Berserk) & Ryo Asuka (Devilman Crybaby)
TL;DR: Incredibly nuanced villains that I want to put on a little dish and dissect. Themes of light and purity as something evil, of good intentions (Griffith) and love (Ryo) as something horrifying.
I figure I could just combine these two, given how much they've impacted each-other's writing.
Griffith AND Ryo are both infinitely nuanced characters, in ways that are complimentary and yet still different enough.
I've made a few posts about Griffith (if only because I recently finished Berserk), and my opinion on him can be summarised as such: I think he's the best villain in fiction, in that he is afforded nuance and complexity, without having to take away his teeth and make him ultimately pathetic, unintimidating, or a sexyman. I think the most interesting part of Griffith is his politics, his drive to change the world, his willingness to sacrifice everything to the greater good to the point where it becomes apocalyptic. It's fascinating to watch a character be so wrapped in genuine and honest good intentions, to the point of destroying everything.
I don't think I've talked much about Ryo (I should rewatch Crybaby), which is really a shame because he's no less interesting. He takes an aspect of Griffith that I haven't talked much about (rather, Griffith takes an aspect of Ryo) - obsessive love and devotion to the point of destruction - and amps it up to an infinite degree. Unlike Griffith, who pushes aside his love for his political motivation, Ryo destroys everything and anything in his path to the one he loves - including that very person. He's possessive and obsessive, in a way that does end up feeling genuine, and his entire humanity is concentrated on his feelings to this one person.
Together, these characters represent a trope that I personally love - purity, beauty and light as something evil, something vile, something overwhelming and possessive (as contrasted by something dirty, something crude, something rough being real and human and kind).
I just find them fascinating.
Ekko (Arcane)
TL;DR: mmmm community centric anarchist punk king.
This is possibly the most self indulgent one. Arcane is a wonderful show entirely full of fascinating characters I love, and each one of them deserves an amount of words that even I don't possess to describe their greatness.
Ekko is no less cool and interesting for having less screen time, but if we're just being honest here for a second ...
I just love his vibe.
I love that he was a rowdy, shitty little kid that antagonised everyone he could. I love that as he grew, he got more serious, took on an air of responsibility, but he didn't lose his friendliness, his humour, his artistry. I love that he prioritizes fun and growth and community, not just survival. I love that he has authority as a leader, not through fear but through confidence, through respect. I love his scene with Vi, where he bites back at her for the first time, I love their hug, I love their bond. I love his fight with Jinx, I love that for a moment they're just kids playing a game, I love seeing the reality crash over him like a wave. I love the little tidbits we get of him as a kid, playing dumb pranks, practicing his punches.
And to be completely clear: HE IS THE ONLY CHARACTER THAT WAS CORRECT.
Heimerdinger, Jayce, Silco, Vander, Mel, every single leader in this show is either too preoccupied trying to preserve broken pieces of the past or they're speeding towards a future they don't understand.
Ekko says NONE OF THAT SHIT, takes up the punk anarchist mantel, and says "I am going to take care of the injured, the indisposed, the homeless, the sick, the children, because blind ideals mean nothing in the face of real poverty and struggle".
...Which is why I say it's self indulgent on my part. It's just because I fully agree with his ideologies.
Geto Suguru (Jujutsu Kaisen)
TL;DR: Another villain I absolutely love analyzing and dissecting. Beautifully written ideology and motivation that is fully understandable even if it's something any sane human would viscerally disagree with.
I've written post upon post on Geto, so I won't get too into it, but I still wanted to mention him. Another reason I won't talk too much here is because I've ultimately fallen out of love with JJK - sad, but true. In my opinion, the most interesting part of the show was, in fact, Geto.
Geto's ideology is incredibly well written. So, so many little details end up playing into it, it's set up so carefully and expertly that in the end it's incredibly easy to see how he ended up in the place he did. The death of his friends, the responsibility of Mimiko and Nanako, the way he's treated, the way his best friend is treated... Some of these things are big, some more subtle, but they all lay a brick in the foundation of one of the best villain arcs I can name. And if you can't tell, I'm a big fan of villains that genuinely believe what they preach. There's an air of sincerity about him, despite being a manipulative asshole, he isn't a selfish one.
I just think he's fascinating.
Fabian Aramais Seacaster (Dimension 20: Fantasy High)
TL;DR: Incredibly entertaining, and has informed the way I play my TTRPG characters.
A bit of a random one, and a more light-hearted one - I just love this silly little man.
Fabian is so unabashedly loud, silly, over the top. He makes such obvious, catastrophic mistakes, often after delivering such confident speeches about how awesome he is. And then he's allowed to have quiet moments - he can be somber, soft, sad, tragic. He loves his friends, but he can't bring himself to be obvious about it, but he wants so badly to express it. He has repressed trauma that we don't really get told - instead it's expressed through every desperate cry for attention and every subsequent moment of quiet reflection.
I've been playing TTRPGs for a little while now, but Fabian has fundamentally inspired me to be more confident, more nuanced, to take up more space at my table, and to not be scared to change the way my characters act based on the scene and mood and circumstance.
I just think he's neat !
Panacotta Fugo (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind + Purple Haze Feedback)
TL;DR: An underrated character that showcases burnout, gifted kid syndrome, and abandonment issues in a way I find particularly painful.
God. Where do I even start.
Fugo speaks very deeply to some of my own trauma. The gutteral, albeit brief depiction of gifted child syndrome and the subsequent burnout that follows it felt incredibly, palpably real not only in the episodes we see his backstory in, but also in his general behaviour. In the way he still tries to act proper and composed, in the barely-restrained rage that bubbles over once in a while, in the severe guilt felt through these outbursts. Pretty much any time Fugo is on screen is a testament to his pain and his sheer desire to overcome it, which (as amazing this show is) I can't exactly say for most JJBA characters.
The abandonment issues are more personal to me than I'd like to get too deeply into - suffice it to say, being left behind without a thought, looking at people you came to think of as your family turn their backs on you and walk away, and realising for the first time that you weren't, in fact, a needed and cherished presence in their lives, but rather something easily parted with ... That shit hurts, and it hurts me very personally.
Araki has gone on record stating that he fell in love with Fugo as a character and came to see him as a personal friend. I believe him, if the genuine and subtle care poured into every crevice of his character is anything to go by.
Purple Haze Feedback isn't canon, but it is Araki-approved, and its the exact amount and type of Fugo content I was starving for after his extremely undercut role in part 5.
And I think that's it!
Was that 10? Who knows.
Either way sorry if this isn't what you were looking for - i think one look at my blog will tell you that I'm very prone to infodumping especially as it pertains to character analysis.
And if you read it this far... Holy shit, thank you !!
To be honest as I've fallen out of fandom spaces it's become incredibly hard to come up with characters I actually like, rather than ones I've projected my own stories onto and changed fundamentally.
Playing DND has NOT been helpful, it's increasingly difficult not to spend four hours talking about a PC I made that I really love instead of any actual character haha.
Either way thank you for the ask !! Like I said I love a good opportunity to infodump.

Giant Wave Interview

Giant Wave is a musical project from Will Ryerson. Will is a local Billings resident but has spent some time in Baltimore, cultivating sounds that could certainly fit as an arraignment of the intro song to The Wire. Angus (aka Agnar) asked Will some questions!
Angus: With being a resident of both Baltimore and Billings, are there any other ā€œBā€ places on earth you are planning to conquer?
Will: Iā€™ve been to Brooklyn many times, itā€™s okay. Bozeman has some cool folks amidst the boring rich people. My mother and a few friends live in beautiful areas of northern Vermont near Burlington, a place/ area where Iā€™ve also spent quite a bit of time and would consider moving to under the right circumstances. Further afield: Brussels, Burkina Faso, Baliā€¦ would go to any/all without hesitation.
Q: If you only had to choose one between the base guitar or the synthesizer, which one would you stick with?
A: Bass guitar has endlessly funky possibilities that I most fully explored as bassist in the band Chiffon (back in Bmore). But synths are more versatile for sonic world-building. Is this a boring answer?
Q: What are the similarities of playing experimental electronic music in front of a crowd and reading story books to preschool children?
A: Maintaining the listenerā€™s attention and choosing the correct volume.
Q: Out of all of your previous music projects both solo and as part of a group, is there any one particular release that sticks out to you personally?
A: Probably ā€œNatural Motionā€, the final album from my old indie-pop band Other Colors (released in 2016). Although Iā€™ve moved on from it + that project stylistically, it was the first time that I, with supreme assistance and invaluable collaboration from bandmates, successfully realized a big-picture musical vision in a recording studio. Despite failing to catapult us to indie music stardom, Iā€™m still very proud of it.
Q: What are your opinions on the 2001 cult classic Freddy Got Fingered staring Tom Green?
A: A manic tour-de-force from a wildly creative neurodivergent hero. Thereā€™s a strong anti-capitalist current throughout, I think, which is kind of buried underneath the surface-level madness. Sausages!
Catch Giant Wave at the Agnar hosted Noise Mini-Fest / Show (we really need to work on our packaging) at the North Park Rec Center at 3pm on Saturday, the 10th!

I wanna know about Null!
Fuck yeah! Love her. Thereā€™s some stuff I canā€™t say because my fellow players follow me and I donā€™t wanna give away her secrets, but Iā€™m excited to talk about her.Ā
Full Name: Null the Void. Legally not her name, but she legally doesnā€™t exist so thatā€™s a non-started.
Gender and Sexuality: Sheā€™s a trans woman, and sheā€™s bi grey-ace.Ā
Pronouns: She/her
Ethnicity/Species: Nullā€™s a tiefling, but more importantly sheā€™s a voidwalker- a sort of demigod, where one parent is mortal and one is an eldritch abomination. Practically speaking it means her skin is pure glowing white and her eyes pure black, and she has mercury for blood.Ā
Birthplace and Birthdate: I canā€™t say her birthplace, although she lived from infancy on the city planet Mechanus. Her birthdate is complicated because the space calendar is a mess, but itā€™s the 15th of Gabrin, 20 years ago.Ā
Guilty Pleasures: I think mostly being frivolous about things that arenā€™t strictlyĀ ā€˜necessaryā€™. Dresses werenā€™t really an option for her growing up because of the necessity for practical clothing, but sheā€™d enjoy them.Ā
Phobias: Mind control! She had a run-in with a cultist a few weeks ago and she almost died, so anything that reminds her of that is scary. Also I think sheā€™s a bit agoraphobic, because Mechanus is very cramped and underground and skyless. Seeing a bunch of wide open space makes her anxious.
What They Would Be Famous For: Probably the several murders of high-ranking businesspeople and planetary government officials she participated in. Another thing, too, but thatā€™s my little secret.Ā
What They Would Get Arrested For: Probably the several murders of high-ranking businesspeople and planetary government officials she participated in! And a ton of other shit, of course. Sheā€™s a rogue. Crime girl!Ā
OC You Ship Them With: Not my OC, but @idia-and-ortho-shroudā€˜s Fiz. Theyā€™re a changeling, and their initial rocky relationship with Null has transformed into genuine affection and solidarity.Ā
OC Most Likely To Murder Them: LOT of enemies for my beloved! Tough to say. In this case OC refers more to NPC because, again, D&D, but I feel like the thing pretending to be Captain Dalley Buxton is a pretty strong contender. Heā€™s a sentient glob of darkness and mushrooms whose spaceship the party is currently on, and his First Mate, Alice, choked Null out using Buxtonā€™s powers.Ā
Favorite Movie/Book Genre: Sheā€™s into thrillers, I think? Heist movies and shit. Action movies, too. Itā€™s like nostalgia, and she has a lot of fun with picking out all the parts that donā€™t work. Sheā€™s for sure a talker during movies.Ā
Least Favorite Movie/Book Cliche: All the negative voidwalker stereotypes go without saying- they get frequently cast in villainous or shady roles. From a somewhat more personal standpoint she hates rags to riches stories. She based her whole childhood in hoping that could happen to her, so now sheā€™s disillusioned about the concept.Ā
Talents and/or Powers: Null is an incredibly talented rogue. Sheā€™s acrobatic, clever, and surprisingly stealthy for someone who glows in the dark. Due to an incident involving a capitalist, Null got holoblade surgery- it allows her to summon hard-light knives from implants in her palms, which interface with enemiesā€™ brain stems and cause their nanites to malfunction. Theyā€™re very effective, and sheā€™s very good with blades of all kinds. Additionally, due to her heritage and her experiences sheā€™s been developing psychic powers. She can augment her rolls with little kicks of psychic energy, telepathically communicate with people, read minds, and cause people to perceive her as someone else for a short time.
Why Someone Might Love Them: Null is a fucking badass, thatā€™s why. Sheā€™s very much an underdog, and very much someone you want to root for. Her talents make her fun to watch, and her weaknesses make the risks compelling.Ā
Why Someone Might Hate Them: Null is. Not very nice, necessarily. Sheā€™s a good person, and she has a moral compass, but she does kill people and will act harshly on instinct. She can be an asshole sometimes, and I could see how her bluntness could be grating.Ā
How They Change: Nullā€™s change is mainly about trust. At the beginning, she didnā€™t trust anybody but herself. She thought of other people just as coworkers without any real emotional attachment, expecting them to be disposable. Now, she has a lot of feelings about her team, who has functionally become her family- Fiz, her partner, and Ailos, her parental figure. Sheā€™s become more emotionally open, and less guarded about her past and her trauma. Sheā€™s on the path to recovery, baby!
Why You Love Them: So many reasons. All the reasons. I consider her a very compelling character and one I care a lot about. Out of all my characters she might be the most traumatized? Unsure. Itā€™s a tough choice, all things considered, because I tend to make characters with very traumatic backstories. Regardless, sheā€™s amazing and I enjoy playing her. Also, sheā€™s autistic. Because who am I if not someone who projects.Ā

I love the names of your D&D groups. One of mine is called "Hix's Bitches", a group name that we chose in-character when we all multi classed into warlock to do a solid for a dying god. His name is Hixonis because we demanded he pick a name or we would pick one for him. In this same campaign we named an eldritch frog demon Seth.
omg yeeeesss i love that
one of the ones i mentioned in the tags was chosen in character, the holy hurricane. cuz we had an old one but it was bad LOL
and the one i wrote as hopes arrow is more commonly known as bakors 4, due to there being 4 of us, one of them bakor, who is our collective goblin dad/brother/uncle and has started several businesses??
dnd really is a game
