Don't recall what got me into Dynamic-related stuff again recently (though it wasn't Brilliant Minds) but when looking through the which half of the Dynamic are you quiz I saw this question, thought of how I'd previously assessed Wolf and Nichols as the Dynamic, and thought of what Wolf's dad said in that one flashback about Wolf being some kind of messiah (something to rotate around in brain and perhaps spring plot bunnies off (even if the show never goes any implied-magic route like what Tracker did with the witch girl or what happened with the ghosts or the psychic on Bones) even though they don't necessarily have to be explicitly Christian-mythology-y Second-Coming-y as long as he's some variety of prophecized chosen one)

now all we need is a built-in spin-the-wheel thing and a personality quiz feature
Polls are genuinely the best thing to have happened to tumblr. Completely reinvigerated the culture. You get everything from incredibly silly to very serious and each one is an absolute joy to vote in.

I feel like the withdrawal of Matt Gaetz just reawoke something within me that felt dead after the election. Maybe it’s the sense of hope that we can still fight this. That pressure works. That decency is still possible in this country. I’m sure Trump will elect another batshit person in his place, but it won’t be him. And maybe we can get some of the other rapists and child traffickers (Hegseth, McMahon, RFK) out of the race for the other positions.

heck, as SwSh showed all the battling/pro-sports parallels think of how our world treats sports video games (and heck gym leader would probably be just another job to have job-simulator-games for)
Personally I think that battle sims like showdown would still be a thing in the pokemon world. Cuz like picture this: you are ten years old and the only Pokémon you have access to is the elderly family Sunflora. You love Sunny to death but also literally every media you consume involves Pokémon battles and champions and cool ass fights. Sunny is too old to fight and your neighbor’s Gothita is too young. One day on the playground your friend tells you about this cool website that lets you battle pokemon on the computer. Later that night you boot up the family computer and instantly realize that this website lets you play as GROUDON (!!!!). There’s no going back from there.

I got a chicken
First reaction: desperately trying to find other characteristics either behavioral, symbolic or both (symbolic based on behavioral) that could mean the way the assigned familiar is supposed to reflect me isn't just either "girl with anxiety got the bird whose name's also used as a synonym for cowardice" and/or somehow related to me being chubby (if this would mean hen and not rooster as chickens are one of the animal options here where gender makes a big difference)
Second reaction: at least it's easier to take care of than some of the other potential options (and smaller) and between cottagecore aesthetic and there being some really pretty chicken breeds out there they can still be as Aesthetic^TM as something like a raven, owl, wolf or cat (just not conventional witch/wizard aesthetic but when have I ever been conventional)
Third reaction: I wonder if chickens and cows being familiar options means Copyright-Free Magic School would have a completely vegan menu because even if there is intellligence/magic-y stuff separating familiars of those species from normal animals of those species I imagine it'd still be a little traumatic to eat animals like that (and also if it abides by the same-or-similar rules of magic as the universe of the copyrighted one, you can't just appearify food out of nothing that technically didn't require the death of any animal)
You show up for your first day at Copyright-Free Magic School. As you're going through orientation, you're informed that all new students get a school-assigned familiar that they are responsible for housing and maintaining. The staff member assures you that your assigned familiar is appropriately chosen and reflects you in some way.
Spin this to find out yours. (Remember, you are responsible for maintaining this familiar in your dorm room.)

Thoughts on a Brilliant Minds that felt like Valentine's Day in November (like how places do Christmas In July) and hit me really hard in the feels in a way that felt personal somehow (despite me being a-spec and not a gay man)
great transition into older young Oliver
you can tell they know what they did
nice little Spock motif shenanigans given who she is
I'm worried he's going to have to tell her he's gay
don't flatter yourself Jacob
good to see the show being sex-positive but don't be so sex-positive you miss the problem
speaking of positive I was expecting more awkward and more slow burn, that was fast (more Fleve parallels, they also didn't really slow-burn despite being the kind of procedural couple that normally would)
the girl gets around
I feel like this is reminiscent of some gay romcom
getting shades of Ramona Nowitzki
I'm with Nichols on the fork thing (but I actually have the excuse of low DEX Wolf accused him of)
tests negative so what's the answer
oh shit shit just got real
thankfully it went away on its own
hmm...the plot thickens
little gay romcom montage and I love that song
Ericka feeling really a bit like Annie did in Community S1E11
I was half expecting Van to walk by the window after Jacob
Dana sounding a bit like Garcia (in the way Jacob does Troy)
and how is Whitaker spelled
things just got weirder but at least she isn't that kind of stalkerdoodle
neurosyphilis, never heard of that but didn't expect the kind of weird disorder that'd be the diagnosis of the week to be that easily treatable
same dilemma all over again
obligatory shirtless Jacob in relevant discussion
Dana plays Catan and considers it on par with sex, I like her even more despite being a-spec so I can't compare
not in the elevator (and even though that's only kissing I'm hearing the "We Tapped That Ass All Over This House" song from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend in my mind)
bad timing mom
that was not the reaction Wolf was expecting
finding a compromise perhaps in parallel
expecting a "the talk" (and got confirmation it's Landon not Langdon, I swear her nameplate said Langdon the first time)
okay now things got a little weird (and I don't know if this means it's going to go back to slow, they're hitting a Fleve-esque speed bump or Nichols is really the one hiding hurt)
cue Wolf's Big Dramatic Monologue and mom getting a little bit Mother Gothel
not saying she was interested in her that way but didn't Allison's words to Pierce seem a little weird for a patient (even one with their history)
not the guy I was expecting at Ericka's door (and now I'm rotating the idea of future throuple around in my brain again)
you guys just talked about special food orders and watching Star Wars, don't get right to bed and let the food get cold (and what's the name of that needle drop, I can tell it had lyrics but the dialogue kinda drowned them out)
speed bump patched over and there goes "Heartbeats" again something something full circle something something loom of fate (and now whatever us Brilliant Minds fans call ourselves (as I don't know if we should use any term also used for characters like how Librarians fans call themselves LITs) have even more of an "iconic song" in the sense a lot of other fandoms have)

yeah maybe you could pull something like that off in the present day but if all those films were live-action someone would get accused of problematic exploitation or w/e even if none was going on for that kind of schedule
shout out to when i told my dad about goncharov and he figured out it was fake because i told him "1973 martin scorsese film with robert de niro" and he said that wasn't possible because the godfather came out in 1972 and the godfather part II came out in 1974 and they wouldn't have had time to make a movie in between. a perfectly good jest, foiled by this man's weird and vast knowledge set

Two of the things that make my neurodivergent ass most vulnerable to manipulation (and make me afraid those I consider "bad guys" will take advantage of that and, no, any reading this this is not an instruction guide) other than the typical sort of innocents-in-danger stuff that'd get to most people are when it feels like my special interests are threatened and when it feels like doing a given thing would add "genre" (used in the sense of umbrella term for fantasy and sci-fi) to the world. An example of both is that post I just reblogged about "The most unbelievable part about the US election for me is that the Swifties didn’t manage to make Harris win. I was halfway convinced that they have the power to move mountains and bend reality, what do you mean they couldn’t keep the crazy orange man from winning" because that got a certain intrusive-thought-in-the-colloquial-sense part of my brain wanting to find some way for the Swifties to either still keep him (in the sense of his whole succession-line) from being inaugurated somehow or use paradox-free time-travel to have kept him from winning (if time-travel-to-stop-him wouldn't legitimize him too much as a villain in ways that'd compare him to villains it'd be insulting to them to compare him to) because it felt like "if we don't do this we're not a true fandom and have no real power but if we can pull this off we gain literal reality-bending mountain-moving power [and it's taking all my willpower not to make an Agatha All Along reference as it feels like there's demographic overlap]"
But I didn't just make this post to vent about that post. Some other examples of the special-interest-under-threat thing are me getting so panicked about someone's cynical joke on the Brilliant Minds Tumblr tag that it'd get cancelled after two seasons if not one because it's actually good and has diverse writers and characters that I made a petition to help get it a S2 after it had only aired three episodes of S1 that managed to get a bunch of people on Reddit worried that it had gotten cancelled and how personally (even for a 3x OWkin) I take anything bad that happens with Blizzard/Overwatch or any criticism of them (in part of a comment on a post on r/fictionkin I framed the kin-related reasons why I feel the way I do about the controversy in terms of (though not to say writer(s) of source = literal god) "Imagine if you discovered that all the weirdness (derogatory) in the world was because God was a money-grubbing dick you had to take down but he put some magic rules in place to make it seemingly impossible for people to and there's a non-zero chance you don't know the size of that killing-or-at-least-overthrowing God might end your world anyway" (the impossible rules are a parallel to that one TOS update which meant players couldn't sue, however as someone who doesn't have OW2 I could, I'm just worried I can't class-action).
Some other examples of the wanting the world to be more "genre" thing include this weird feeling of uncomfortability I get when history (albeit not commonly-known-history) has the potential to contradict some historical-y fantasy fiction (not in the sense of actual period pieces but stuff like The Librarians or The Da Vinci Code, y'know, that genre) I love and really want to be some kind of Wormhole-X-Treme-esque cover for real events and whenever I see that one picture of that one cyber-y-solarpunk-y city that always vaguely reminds me of Numbani for some reason despite not really looking African as part of that meme template of "The world if [bad thing hadn't happened or good missed opportunity happened]" and always get some immense pang in my heart of unless there's some monkey's paw subtext I'm missing I want that kind of world so how can I make that outcome have happened

ok so is there some way they could get "the crazy orange man" preemptively disqualified (that doesn't just make his vp replace him) to restore their power
The most unbelievable part about the US election for me is that the Swifties didn't manage to make Harris win. I was halfway convinced that they have the power to move mountains and bend reality, what do you mean they couldn't keep the crazy orange man from winning 😭

maybe this is just my idealism showing (fighting my anxiety getting scared over the implications of your "theoretically") but the solutions that come to my mind are to do whatever is within your power (doesn't have to be everything or direct or w/e as long as it's enough for you) to not just help this bullshit end but help research towards anti-aging/immortality stuff so you're as younger for longer as you can be without your chronological age being messed with
I don’t know how to explain this well…but I’m 30 years old and I feel like I’ve had to ‘sacrifice’ my entire adult life to unprecedented times, the pandemic and daily anxiety over hateful politicians and whatever rights they want to take away on any given day and I’m just so fucking tired

ok but what about the music as the first thing I can think of (albeit maybe biased by what I personally have been exposed to) that'd be appropriate for that kind of "Patrick Bateman variant" to listen to (as iirc music does play a role outside of the musical and the Huey Lewis line) is the kind where you'd have to be careful which specific artists/songs you pick to not taint someone's reputation/be deemed problematic. E.g. it reminded me of stuff like how r/popheads on Reddit was literally founded because some Carly Rae Jepsen stan got mad that her song "Run Away With Me" was considered not indie enough to post on r/indieheads and how weird the people on there get about a certain variety of critical-darling-but-just-outside-mainstream pop girl (e.g. if this kind of character would even listen to that kind of music at all my vision of her relationship-to-music-wise would be the kind of girl that says stuff like "straight men can't listen to [my preferred pop girl of stanning choice], she is for the girlies and the gays")
if you truly wanted to remake american psycho for the modern day you would cast a young 20 something hot woman and make it about social media “amazon must buy” influencers and how it’s a shallow, empty, and extremely copy-paste job where you turn yourself into a salesperson for the smallest amount of commission and lose all originality of yourself. bc those girls that go to bed with literal tape over their mouths and after doing a 10 step skincare routine are closer to being patrick bateman than literally any man alive

don't think of this as Disney or society doing a bad thing or a herald of what's to come in entertainment for the next four years, look forward to and fight for the day when we've come so far that this seems like everything from what happened with the SU wedding to the whole Sailor Uranus and Neptune situation
Just watched the banned Moon Girl episode.
>the episode addresses the topic of trans kids in sports >the entire episode is about how bigots will always move the goalpost, and playing by their rules is pointless >the solution is not to play their game and break the rules >it also states that trans people should never feel like a burden >the character Brooklyn is explicitly stated to be trans >there is also an explicitly nonbinary character >multiple mentions of pride and depictions of pride flags, trans flags and progress flags
I'm not at all surprised this didn't get past the censors but I'm so mad that it didn't, because this could've been something really special, and the fact it was canned after being fully finished is downright painful. This episode was wonderful and I'm grateful to all the people who worked on it, and angry that their hard work was wasted. Disney did not deserve you.
Here's a link, as long as Disney doesn't take it down

Thoughts on a Tracker that really felt like a change-up (and was a little hard to follow though thankfully not because of the dark)
going to have to remind myself these characters are adults as the drunken shenanigans feel very teenage
and this feels like the start of a slasher
Tracker sure has a thing for the PNW
referral slightly building out world
gotta love Velma's t-shirt
blood doesn't always mean what you think
most obvious suspect is never the culprit
especially when he took that bad a fall
ok who dis
so character parallels not with the missing person this time
perhaps explains why they're trusting each other so quickly
someone's being a bastard (in the good way)
Gina Pickett mention
he said get down mr. cowboy cop
shooter found (afraid for a sec they'd have got the wrong guy) but what's the rest of the puzzle
maybe cuff him in back next time
ok what the hell did he see
dosing someone who doesn't need them with anxiety meds, what's with all these shows and the drugs lately
we finally get to see them and no questions get answered except this is starting to feel a little I Know What You Did Last Summer
stop being so cynical about lawyers (I'm not just metaphorically talking to Keaton I'm talking to society)
Reenie found the missing piece of the puzzle
this whole episode's about promises I guess
shit with them's getting a little hard to follow
that was not what I expected
same spot
before you Twin Peaks a guy make sure he's really most sincerely dead
so some forgiveness-y stuff that connects even more to Colter is in order
so we're going to see Keaton again (maybe if he's in the action again next time he'll actually listen to Colter)
I saw that trying to protect kinda-sorta-hookup
Reenie is such a troll
cute little pseudo-romance moment to end on and that combined with champagne in a non-fancy setting is somehow making me think of In The Heights
Jennifer Morrison (aka Emma Swan, Allison Cameron, or Lizzy Hawking for those who somehow only know her from that one Tracker episode) directed this and did a pretty decent job, especially considering it's not director error but writer error if the show cuts in a weird spot

joke appreciated but this is subscribing to a theory of time/causality/history/whatever that I disagree with but time travel fiction has helped perpetuate; that all you have to do is change one event (ideally as far back as possible but still in the chain of causality) in the chain that led to a bad event and everything will automatically be on a better timeline and no negative unintended consequences will occur
2010. A Japanese woman sits down to take photos of her shiba inu dog for her blog. Suddenly, a man leaps out of a time portal. "Sorry, I can't let you do this. I cannot tell you why." She asks: "Is it forbidden knowledge from the future?" He sighs: "No, it's just too fucking stupid to explain."
