They were kids, who were naive and didn't have the maturity to act the wisest (in Sakura, Naruto, Ino and Shikamaru's case) or traumatised with no one to properly help them (in Sasuke's and Neji's case) and all of them eventually grew up and became better.

It's ridiculous to still hold Sakura for saying something insensitive in her childhood.

I really like your nejisasuneji fanart!I think the similarity between Neji and Sasuke in Naruto is worth exploring. Both of them come from the pupil aristocracy, and their strength is about the same (the early Byakugan and Sharingan are both very strong), and both of them are rebels. yesssss this is what drew me to them! i find it very interesting they are both clan prodigies with Baggage and both come from prestigious clans no less. remember when the sharingan and byakugan were compared to each other and it meant anything ever that was FUN.

the name hyuuga is written with the characters for "sun" and "approach", but the second character can also mean "defy". hinata's first name is just a different reading of the kanji of their surname (which is hilarious but that's not the point), but as a noun "hinata" means "sunny place" or "in the sun". i believe it's also been used to mean "the direction the sun is shining". with the reading "hyuuga", though, the same kanji is also an archaic noun meaning "facing (opposite) the sun". so hinata, the all-but-disowned heiress of the clan, is "a sunny place facing the sun" - both an undeniable part of her family, yet ostracized for her weakness.

neji's name means "screw", or it can refer to a key or a spring in like a watch or a clock or something. there's a few kanji it could be written in, but only one of them caught my eye - 螺旋 is a rarer way of writing "ねじ" (usually just written in hiragana afaik, tho neji the character's name is written in katakana) but the more common reading of 螺旋 is ら(螺)·せん - rasen. if you haven't already caught it, the kanji for rasengan is 螺旋丸­. that's not super relevant, just interesting. anyway, neji who "defies" the main family is one who "faces (opposes) the sun". but at the same time he's its strongest member (or. the one with the most potential. probably most of the jounin hyuuga were stronger than genin neji). so he's "a screw in the sun" - a fundamental piece of the machinery that it may not be able to function without, even if it can't be seen from the outside, like the inner workings of a clock.

Everything Wrong With The Way Neji Was Handled

I’m in the mood so I’m gonna write something that has been on my mind for quite some time. Here we go.

1-) Neji vs. Hinata

Let’s start with the most obvious offense: Why did people allow this match in the first place?

Gai, Kurenai, huns, exactly what were you thinking? Both Hinata and Neji are heavily damaged children, seriously what were you expecting from this fight?

And that’s without saying Neji would get in a lot, a lot of trouble for defeating Hinata. Heyoo??? Hinata absolutely wouldn’t activate Neji’s seal but Main House elders would. Even if they didn’t care about Hinata’s well being at all, I’m sure beating a Main House member into a coma qualifies as a revolutionary act and I don’t think slave owners would be fine with it.

I don’t like how the narrative portrays Neji as the villain in the match too. Neji DID warn Hinata, he did tell her that he was gonna win this and she should give up. Hinata didn’t, she chose to fight and even when it was absolutely obvious she lost, she still came at him. What was she expecting, to get out unharmed? No, Hinata knew Neji had understandable reasons to hate her and Neji warned her to give up at the beginning. This isn’t to justify Neji’s misplaced anger but to claim why Hinata wasn’t completely innocent.

Besides, people do realize that Neji is a literal child slave, right? That stuff tends to slightly screw your mind up, do people know? It doesn’t make Neji a horrible monster that he hated his owner’s daughter who could exploit him and make his life a hell with just one hand sign, no matter how the said daughter was genuinely a good person. Neji was in the wrong and Hinata didn’t deserve his hatred, a big yes to this but holy sweet, be a little bit understanding.

But nah, Neji is a bad villain and great Naruto will kick his ass. Hinata is so undoubtly good that even Neji’s teammate supports her instead of… I dunno… realizing the “for the first time, Branch House shall win!” quote meant that the match wasn’t just about a black and white hard work stuff and Neji did have his reasons too.

2-) Neji vs. Naruto

This match may be the most hilariously stupid thing I’ve ever seen in any form of fiction…

So… Naruto preaches about how hard work beats genius even though the one with one year worth of more experience and training among the two is Neji. Then, Naruto beats Neji by… using Kyubi?

??? :D

Hyuga’s style was extremely disagventagous against a Jinchuriki since Bijuus essentially work as a secondary chakra battery which can re-activate closed Tenketsus. That’s how Naruto beats Neji. Birth advantage. Neji has one more year of training and experience but it failed against birth advantage.

Hard work truly beats genius. Nice way to prove your themes.

And where was Gai during the match anyway? Kakashi has an excuse not to be there since Sasuke would have died to Gaara if he didn’t complete his training but Gai? Couldn’t he just carry Lee to the arena and watch his student’s match?

Besides, a simple “I’m gonna change the Hyuga when I become the Hokage!” was enough to touch Neji because that quote meant someone actually gave a fuck about what he’s going through. It meant someone else agreed that the slavery in his clan was wrong and his feelings about it were validated. It was that simple.

Question: Where tf was Gai during roughly one and a half year???

What kind of bs answer is ‘choose to die’ to slavery anyway? Do they have a right to choose not to die when their owner asks them to die? No, they don’t. Then, they’re not free.

I also hate how later in the series, Neji’s anger at the Main House was invalidated because his father had pulled the “well, I’m gonna die anyway, I may as well as trick myself into believing I’m finally free because I’m desperate and that’s the only way I can feel some closure at death” card. Excuse me but Neji is still a slave to the Main House, he’ll remain so as long as that mark is on his forehead remains - Hiashi’s apologize be dammed. He HAS the right to be mad at the Main House and the clan’s system.

4-) Later on…

Neji dies to some flying pieces of wood he absolutely should have been able to defend against cus the author needed a… uh… What’s the word here? Anti-plot armor? The opposite of a plot armor? Negative plot armor? I dunno, send help.

Note: Hiashi’s or whoever’s words don’t mean a thing. Neji SHOULD HAVE BEEN able to defend that attack.

His death is insulted with a ship moment that comes mere minutes after. We also don’t get enough reaction from his teammates, one manga page is all.

And Naruto, the boy who lectured him about how destiny doesn’t exist turns out to be a demi God and the child of the prophecy. And all that jazz.

The true reason why Itachi was right/justified - The best answer

BUT for the reddit short version. A few days ago I made a post that seemed to take off in the sub about Itachi and it didn't have anything to do with whether he was right or wrong in his decision in massacring his clan but unsurprisingly that's what it led to and the opinions like always are very mixed but people have extremely poor arguments on both sides and more often than not let their own world view and emotions come into their decision making when it should in fact be viewed from the not only the world the Naruto universe is, mainly Konoha, but also their world as a whole, also who Itachi and why he holds the views he does and ultimately why he did what he did that night.

There's this misconception that Itachi is stupid or that he made the wrong choice because he's blood related to his clan, that the clan is his family and no matter what the result is that he should stand with them and fight against Konoha and even worse there are people who believe that the Uchiha clan can even win that battle in the first place. First and foremost, even if Uchiha had a chance to rebel they would get completely annihilated by the rest of Konoha shinobi, there's just too much riding against them but that's not to say that Konoha wouldn't have taken any major damage to Konoha and their forces; facing the Uchiha clan would definitely be an hard battle but in the end they are one clan vs many other clans such as Hyuga, Aburame, Akimichi, Nara, etc and other notable shinobi from Konoha such as Kakashi, a Younger Hiruzen, Danzo, Guy, Asuma, Kurenai, etc; they're not winning that battle and it's foolish to think otherwise.

That's not the main point but that plays into the next point. It's not about winning the battle against Konoha for Itachi, It's about the damage and domino effect it would cause. As said in the story a civil war of that magnitude breaking out in the leaf would surely cause severe damage and a great amount of casualties to not only the leaf but non shinobi as well. That damage would be a cause for concern because other nations would take advantage of the instability within the Konoha and attack, potentially destroying Konoha entirely and that's a high possibility especially when you look at relations of other villages with Konoha, especially the Cloud Village who are almost rivaling Konoha in power and to add on to that Konoha and Cloud didn't have the best relations during the time frame pre-4th great shinobi war; considering they tried to kidnap Kushina and Hinata. During the Kidnapping of Hinata, her father actually killed the Cloud ninja which resulted in his brother sacrificing himself, so to say their relations weren't great would be an understatement.

Itachi also adopted the will of fire and being a part of the anbu held it to a deeper extent but he also craved for peace among all else in his village because of the 3rd great shinobi war he was exposed to at the age of 4. He never wanted to experience anything like that again, especially within his village, that could lead to an even greater conflict and war. Itachi loved his family but he also loved his village, the village is also Itachi's family, remembering Hiruzen said Itachi thought like a Hokage at the age of 7 and that's the Hokage's mentality. The Hokage also possess the will of fire being the leader of their village it's unsurprising.

What is the will of fire? The Will of Fire is the notion that one must sacrifice and endure, that's what it means to be a shinobi, and sacrifice no matter what it is, if it leads to the greater good of the village then it was worth. That is the Will of Fire . As Hashirama said after killing Madara he's willing to kill his friend, family and even his own child if it's for the greater good of the village. This is literally Itachi's mindset. He loves his family dearly and he also loves his village but he knows that the village is more than his family. The village is his family as well and a larger portion at that. The Hokage looks at the entire village as their family, there are several references to Itachi being Hokage like, by Hiruzen, Danzo, Hashirama, and Sasuke. Remember what Minato said (also an Hokage) "To forsake one's country and one's village is the same as forsaking one's child", He says this to a dying Kushina about Naruto after sacrificing his son's upbringing for what? THE VILLAGE.

It's because of Itachi's experiences that he is this way and being in the anbu made him adopt it the Will of Fire to a further extent, as we know the anbu pretty much radicalize the Will of Fire to the most extreme level and are willing to do ANYTHING for the village, especially the anbu that take orders from who? You guessed it. DANZO. Who gave Itachi that choice? DANZO. Danzo knew Itachi's heart, while he spoke to Itachi in a manipulative tone, everything Danzo said was in fact true. and his actions are justified because there's are the actions a shinobi is supposed to take. Starting from the very first Hokage. This is why he is praised by Hashirama for being a better shinobi than him. This is how the Naruto world is and how it this question should be looked at.
