My father was 1 year old when, on May 10, 1933, the Nazis carried out a massive book burning on Opernplatz, not far from his family’s apartment. Chief among the items the Nazis burned were the contents of the vast archive of the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft (the Institute for Sexual Science), which was at the time the world’s most extensive collection of research in queer theory. According to the German American historian George L. Mosse, the institute’s Jewish director, Magnus Hirschfeld, “became a constant target of attack” after the book burning: “His own name and that of the Institute for Sexual science…which he founded in 1919, were used as metaphors for sexual perversion, symbols of the threat to bourgeois respectability posed by Weimar Berlin.” The Nazis not only targeted Jewish intellectuals who studied queer perspectives but also sought to eliminate any suggestion that queer life was or could be normal. To do this, they would need to do more than terrorize figures like Hirschfeld—they would need to completely remake the country’s education system. One way that the Nazis worked toward this goal was by encouraging the public to draw a connection between overly permissive educational practices and what they saw as “sexual perversion.” During the Weimar era, a small number of German educators had undertaken progressive and experimental reforms, lending students more agency in classrooms, eliminating corporal punishment, and adapting their schools to focus on “individual development, social interaction, and educating students for practical reality”—in other words, training them for participation in civic and democratic life. These reforms were a reaction to the conservative nationalist educational model of pre–World War I Germany, which had been designed principally to support German military conquest under Kaiser Wilhem II, which was still dominant in the Weimar era. Nevertheless, the Nazis saw even these incremental reforms as an affront and trained their propaganda machine on the country’s education system, seeking to make it even more militaristic and supportive of their nationalist aims. Their campaign of demonization linked progressive educational reforms not only to sexual perversion but also to Marxism, to draw together traditional social conservatives and wealthy business elites in a coalition against democracy and its institutions. Educational matters were not a fleeting or insignificant area of focus within Nazi politics. The professed goal of Nazi educational policy was to defend the nation’s children from obscenity and “Marxism,” but in the Nazi imagination this task was inextricably bound up in a broader narrative of national victimhood that had lingered across much of the population ever since the 1919 Treaty of Versailles, which brought World War I to an end by confiscating about 10 percent of Germany’s territory and forcing it to pay reparations. The aim of the Nazi education system—to transform the country’s young people into committed ideologues—was a natural extension of Germany’s pre–World War I educational model, which had focused on militarism and German supremacy. Adding Nazi educational practices and ideas to an education system with already strong antidemocratic elements produced an army of Germans willing to die for the fatherland. What we can see from this example of Nazi Germany, and from studying other instances of fascist movements around the world, is that there are five major themes of fascist education:

Leave it to fuck boy Elon Musk to always boost the tweets of racists, trans/homophobes and other Christofascists
The American College of Peds is pretty much like a “Crisis Pregnancy Center,” where they actively deceive people into believing that they offer abortions, but in reality they are an anti-abortion, Christian nationalist, hate group. The American College of Peds is running the same okie doke with their fake name (which closely resembles the name of a more respected association, American Academy of Pediatricians) and their proclamations about the LGBTQ community.
Edit: Elon Musk was not “fooled” by this. He’s a racist, crackpot conspiracy theorist who uses his platform to elevate the views of other racists and bigots. This is intentional on his part.
Here is their Wiki link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_College_of_Pediatricians

Also I don't know who needs to hear this but
American =/= Bad
If you believe any country = bad, you are part of the biggotry problem. Every country has good and bad stuff going on, it's called existing in the real world.
#if your opinion is that people from any specific country are not worth listening to because of their nationality#then you are a racist#and i will call you a racist to your face#if your only solution to hard conversations is ideological purity for someone to be valid#get real#touch grass#and learn how the world works#you're just looking for an excuse to not do anything

tbh something i'd maybe be willing to hear an argument for as being "irredeemable" media is like......triumph of the will or any of leni riefenstahl's films or the birth of a nation, but that ultimately has less to do with disgust over the content of the films than the form and how they're made and their underlying ideological assumptions/agendas, but none of the people who whine about "irredeemable media" are REMOTELY sophisticated enough to have a conversation like that
#like for these people it's just a disgust reaction which is fundamentally a conservative/dare i say fascist tendency#whereas something like triumph of the will or the birth of a nation can be considered repugnant based on their ideological perspectives#and how artistic craft and technique are used to bolster and carry water for monstrous ideologies and regimes that enact atrocities#though it's ultimately unquantifiable imo something like triumph of the will is going to cause SIGNIFICANTLY MORE material harm#than like......salo or 120 days of sodom#and triumph of the will is fundamentally just a documentary about a political rally with no “explicit material”................#art#politics#purity culture#text

i'll be honest every time i see atla fandom defend characters' unacknowledged flaws/mistakes/underdevelopment using some comic panel or another i have to laugh, as if bryke constantly relying on extratextual material to atla and tlok to try and fix the holes they write themselves into isn't a massive indicator they're generally quite bad at writing a good and cohesive story on their own/when they insist on complete creative control 🫠
#holly talks bs#atla critical#tlok critical#bryke critical#brought to you by atla twt arguing that aang wasn't a bad father because some comic or another showed kya meditating or something like...#you can think it's ooc that's fine#but canonically in tlok itself aang is framed as an at BEST absent father to bumi and kya#and this is pretty much brushed under the rug left unpacked#also only semi related but i saw an atla comic panel whichever one introduces the air acolytes i think#and the girl air acoytle was literally WEARING A PICTURE OF AANG?!?!#genuine question why did bryke want aang rebuilding his nation and culture framed thru this twelve year old KID#having fellow kid groupies with weird cultish worship of him???#at every turn they make the weirdest choices imaginable when it comes to aang's character#esp late book 3 and post canon into tlok aang#this also goes to out everyone who uses that damn fucking cooking anecdote to refute people having an issue with katara's parentification#never being interrogated generally or in her relationship with aang#great that's it's semi canon aang can book i guess?? that's not a STORY tho#**cook lmao#moral of the story is that i need to stay away from atla twt that place is the Bad Place#just garbage takes and purity culture and dudebros run rampant but it's like watching a car crash happen in real time

Fics I Enjoyed September-October
10 fics total. Includes fics from the following fandoms: Black Sails, Harry Potter
Away Childish Things by lettered/@letteredlettered Harry Potter | Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy | 154k | Teen & Up
Harry gets de-aged. Malfoy has to help him.
Elective Affinities by Caecelia Harry Potter | Harry Potter/Severus Snape | 86k (WIP) | Mature
It's 1976, and a strange new transfer student is about to turn Severus Snape's life on its head . . .
What We Pretend We Cannot See by gyzym/@gyzym Harry Potter | Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy | 131k | Mature
Seven years out from the war, Harry learns the hard truth of old history: it’s never quite as far behind you as you thought.
where there's a will by aloneintherain/@captainkirkk Harry Potter | Gen | 8k | Teen & Up
Harry writes the first draft of his will when he’s fourteen.
Princes of the New World by x_etoile_x/@etoilesombre Black Sails | James Flint/John Silver | 38k | Explicit
“This is your plan?” Flint sneers, looking at Silver like he’d expected no better. “Hiding below decks like a rat?” “Now Captain, that’s unkind,” Silver pouts, trying to hide his hurt behind teasing reproach. All day he has tried to match Flint, to fight alongside him though he is ill-suited to it, and it has earned him nothing but disdain. Now it’s time to do things his way for a while. “Like a stowaway, at least.” After they have taken the warship and been cast out of the crew, Flint and Silver are forced to contend with each other and the nature of their relationship.
Far From the Tree by aideomai Harry Potter | Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy | 112k | Explicit
The arrival of Harry Potter’s children—snapped back in time, the children themselves guessed, twenty or so years—was the most interesting thing to happen at Hogwarts for years.
Eager for the Sky by oknowkiss/@oknowkiss Harry Potter | Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy | 35k | Mature
It was announced, just as the Triwizard Tournament had been, at the start of term feast. A year-long, international Quidditch varsity match — the inaugural Wizarding Academy Cup. In which Harry is Hogwarts' star Seeker, Draco is on the bench, and they both have a thing or two to learn about playing for the same team.
Like Lightning at Your Fingertips by potterwatch Harry Potter | Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy | 43k | Teen & Up
The problem with living with another insomniac is, eventually, they find out you’re one, too. When Harry and Draco return for their eighth year, they think they’ll see very little of each other. Then McGonagall assigns them to room together. And the castle starts breaking. And there’s that thing with Potter’s magic.
Three's Family by darkbluedark Harry Potter | James Potter/Lily Evans | 19k | Teen & Up
It’s May 1979 and the Order has just apprehended a pair of mysterious wizards who look remarkably like a Potter and a Malfoy. Naturally, James Potter and Sirius Black are called in to identify the strangely familiar strangers and determine their backgrounds and loyalties. (This would be a lot easier if their captives weren’t convinced everyone they talk to is dead. It would also be easier if they didn’t spend half their bloody time bickering.)
The Bolthole by aideomai and Tepre/@tepre Harry Potter | Harry Potter/Draco Malfoy | 54k | Explicit
Harry is a hoarder, Draco is grief-stricken, and both are capable human adults who can definitely spend a month in a cottage in the Cotswolds together without ever talking about the time they slept together in eighth year. Yeah, no, totally.
#fic recs#fanfiction#harry potter#black sails#guys Away Childish Things What We Pretend We Cannot See and Far From the Tree ANNIHILATED ME#i was dead gone d e c e a s e d#finished those fics and just. did not know what to do with myself i was (am) a broken woman#Eager for the Sky made me laugh so hard was literally cackling in the subway as strangers side-eyed me#can't believe in the month of october that i joined drarry nation this was an unexpected plot twist#but like its refreshing sometimes to hop into big fandoms bc there'll be fanfic magnum opuses around every corner#usually i find a True Mahstahpiece every few months or so and this month i've read multiple IN A ROW wild. thanks drarry nation#(also can't believe i read a snarry fic but the worldbuilding the plot the intrigue the prose it was REALLY GOOD#also they're the same age in the fic. but even if they weren't. purity culture is ded babieee)#(dead like my heart oof)

Feel like people wouldn't feel half as strongly about that covid research post had op just been like "Damn sucks that good covid research can come from people with shit liberal Zionist beliefs" instead of 1) acting like anyone who is expressing discomfort with that concept is worth chastising despite nobody actually saying anything about throwing it out when addressing that part of the post, and 2) keeps insisting that liberal zionism should be given grace and trying to draw weird moving lines on propaganda and its relationship to bigotry. Not to mention op keeps engaging with what seems like mostly woc and framing them as agressive for that discomfort and simple questions.
Plus ignoring the obvious elephant in the room that the reason one would be uncomfortable with that is because Israeli covid research in itself has been weaponized against Palestinians, intention of the researcher or not, through purposeful negligence of using said information to treat ALL people on the region. Covid has been allowed to basically target Palestinians as yet another weapon of genocide. I dont think being conscious of that and verbalizing it constitute one as a moral purist but as simply stating a fact in a long line of the way colonial forces use resources even in science to commit violence. Again literally have seen NOBODY saying to throw it out, just bemoaning the source.
#like its a fact that most imperial nation research has these moral hang ups#but like lol being like you guys bitching about it is purity culture is so weird...

𝐂𝐋𝐕𝐈. Khaenri'ah's society is heavily segregated on the basis of purity of blood as the main point of interest, determined at a glance by a characteristic four-pointed star shape as an outline as opposed to be filled. This is the fastest way to determine who is considered a pure Khaenri'ahn and who isn't, whose ancestry comes from the unified civilization at the time of the Apocalypse happened. As a highly proud society, major ranks in the hierarchy belong to those who are pure, as a means to preserve the importance of that purity among many others who came from other nations and abandoned their faith in their god.
Nevertheless, there are rare occasions in which those who come from other nations are given a title of nobility in recognition of their contribution to the society. This contribution may come in the shape of knowledge of relevance as the primary source or ideas that cause great impact in the already existent functioning of a variety of pillars that form Khaenri'ah.
Despite this semblance of acceptance that others who come from other nations can be as relevant in society as the natives, there is a non-written rule that those of pure blood are to procreate among themselves and not with others. In a nation that harbors countless other civilizations, it's become hard to preserve the purity of blood of what determines someone as a genuine Khaenri'ahn based on their even further ancestry. For that reason, in some point in time it became to be frowned on if someone were to "waste their purity with others that once worshipped gods" and among the aristocracy they get a cold shoulder as someone who has the risk of losing their nobility status in society.
#◟༺✧༻◞ events to be remembered in blue veins ┊addendum.┊#the C.aribert AQ touched on how proud Khaenri'ahns are#and how Chlothar himself despite being a nobleman of the Alberich clan#was pretty much treated like garbage even in his own clan#for having a child with a Mondstadt woman he fell in love with#I apologize if the word choice here may be strange#I'm still... hesitant to delve too much into this#for reasons#but what concerns Dain#I headcanon him that he received a title of nobility#due to his service to the nation#and also because he fits the criterium of being pure#in terms of blood ancestry#I'm also not entirely sure to who or what this purity is related to#so I'm keeping that vague#but it definitely stems from the unified civilization

this is wacky. i am speaking out of my ass kinda bc im not actually familiar with her work but these criticisms are so...weird yknow. whats an inauthentic ethnic voice. whats an authentic ethnic voice for that matter. accusing her of "agreeing with the civilizing mission of colonialism"... captivity narrative... using lived experience to justify intolerance. isnt this weird. arent these just weird ways to criticise someone forming her opinons on her life experiences with islam and its radical shades and then breaking away from them...in weird academic language instead of actually saying something useful abt her work. i get these are wikipedia quotations, they have to be short, but isnt that interesting that these are the ones chosen. its all show no substance. like, boo hoo, she alienated some feminists and academics, which is probably the easiest thing to do in the world. is that a crime?
#m#i also dont like to bring stuff like this up but this woman was put thru fgm as a child ad then went to live in a place where thats not the#norm (which is good. really good). yeah id imagine that kind of stuff would shape her views to a big degree. its not hard to see why#shed side with the evil evros or whatever. i too wouldside with the nations that simply dont allow little girls to be mutilated to protect#their supposed purity for religions or superstition sake and instead see it as the barbaric act it is

Russia has been accused of a “disgusting and pathetic” attempt to smear two of the US’s most successful sportswomen.
The Russian embassy in South Africa posted a picture of the figure skater Kamila Valieva on their social media account, a day after she was banned for four years for taking banned drugs, above pictures of the US gymnast Simone Biles and the tennis star Serena Williams.
“Do not confuse,” read the post. “Russian athletes, doping. US athletes, cereals.”

There is no one in the world that doesn't associate the color white with goodness, light, and purity and the color black with darkness, corruption, and evil. To make exceptions just because one might be offended is sheer hypocrisy or one is simply deluding oneself.

currently should be very asleep but im thinking abt the linguistic history of scotland and it's fascinating me in ways which are hard to put into words. around the year 1000 there were five different languages spoken in what is now scotland. five...
#i guess my brain is doing a weird little simultaneous combination of#'nations are so so fake there is no inherent purity or unity anywhere in the world everything is in flux'#and 'scotland is a really cool place with such a rich culture and history and i wish so much more was known + recognised'#i guess those arent at all contradictory once u put them into words#but promotion of marginalised cultures does tend to get conflated with nationalist myths of Unity and so on#and i mean. i'm a nationalist in the sense of opposing the uk / english imperialism#but not in any other sense#i would say my motives are actually anti-nationalist but the terminology here is a whole Thing#being pro-union is treated default and anything else is 'nationalist' 🙄

Relevant exchange from the notes:
Tumblr user @mistfather:
there is no category of human being that is an acceptable target for violence for its own sake (or for the equally hollow "punishing the sinners" justification). People do terrible things, and these things should be stopped (and it is regrettable that sometimes stopping these things might perpetuate harm to those committing them), but if you can slap down a box and say "every human being inside this box should have their rights taken away" people will aggressively redefine everything about that box until it fits over a demographic that makes for convenient marginalization. Individuals who harm people should be stopped from harming people. That doesn't mean there is a category of Evil Person Who Hurts People that you can just slap the label on and be done with it.
Random person idk:
funny how you are upset when people use pedophile as the 'evil person who hurts people' label but youre fine about when fascist is used the same way.
Tumblr user @mistfather:
fascism as an ideology and rhetoric method is an active threat to literally everyone. I don't hate those who've been suckered into that rhetoric, and I don't want them to be hurt, but you cannot let people encourage the genocide of others or the unilateral deprivation of rights in the name of "stopping The Bad Guys". Fascists are just people, often very sad and pathetic people desperate for a message that tells them they're strong and blameless. If these people weren't part of a genocidal ideology that will get everyone, including themselves, killed, I wouldn't have a strong opposition to them, and I've never been opposed to their existence as people or them having basic human rights. I don't oppose them because I hate them, I oppose them because their victims do not deserve to suffer their ignorance and hate.
I for the life of me can't find my original post but since I'm getting new followers again I wanna state that as a csa victim from more ppl than I could ever remember that I wholeheartedly believe that "the pedophile" is a boogeyman, a fascist tool for making you okay with violence being enacted on people, and not the cause of childhood and adolescent sexual abuse. In the same way that rape is not borne out of attraction but rather is an expression of power that simply uses sex as a means to its end, childhood and adolescent sexual abuse is not by and large borne from attraction to children and adolescents, but rather from the incredible amounts of power that adults have over young people
#homophobia#transphobia#police#prison#death penalty#purity culture#nationalism#tw csa#i need to start a punitive justice tag
