currently should be very asleep but im thinking abt the linguistic history of scotland and it's fascinating me in ways which are hard to put into words. around the year 1000 there were five different languages spoken in what is now scotland. five...

#i guess my brain is doing a weird little simultaneous combination of #'nations are so so fake there is no inherent purity or unity anywhere in the world everything is in flux'#and 'scotland is a really cool place with such a rich culture and history and i wish so much more was known + recognised'#i guess those arent at all contradictory once u put them into words #but promotion of marginalised cultures does tend to get conflated with nationalist myths of Unity and so on #and i mean. i'm a nationalist in the sense of opposing the uk / english imperialism #but not in any other sense #i would say my motives are actually anti-nationalist but the terminology here is a whole Thing #being pro-union is treated default and anything else is 'nationalist' 🙄
