I think the two saddest phenomena specific to experiencing something in the context of a fandom rather than just generally are 1. finding yourself unable to enjoy something to its fullest unless the fandom agrees with you that it's the best and 2. hating things you'd otherwise like because someone you dislike likes them. Unfortunately, poor media literacy, weird projections onto the narrative, and just failing to get it exist whether or not you're in fandom, but I think finding yourself unable to like something you'd otherwise enjoy simply because of the opinions of other people is just deeply tragic and something I strive to avoid.

Sodachi & Nadeko as a pairing — Yay or nay?

Sorry this is late! 🥲 I can’t say I ever thought about it, so I wanted to consider my answer a little more. I’m not much of a shipper in the first place admittedly 🤧

My answer is “this is not a ship for me." The difference in age/where they are in life is a little too much (now in the anime, with Sodachi being in university while Nadeko being in middle school). I also view their relationship to be more like siblings, since Nadeko knows Sodachi as the friend of her best friend’s older brother.

If we’re talking later in life when difference in age/where they are in life is not as large of a factor to affect the power dynamic of their relationship (consenting adults, etc), I do think that Sodachi would still be an older-sibling-figure from Nadeko’s past… I prefer if Nadeko wouldn’t deal with that kind of situation again (speaking about her “crush” on Koyomi). I think an element of Nadeko’s arc is about the deconstruction of the stereotypical anime “imouto” charatype that she was introduced as. So to me, it would be nice for Nadeko to have a partner that doesn’t have that kind of faux older-sibling relation to her, past or present.

I love Tim and his ships sm. Me personally, I only really ship TimKon. Those two are perfect for eachother and have so much clear queer coding that it’s crazy, and they have dialogue that’s just. gay shaped.

I also get TimBart, I don’t ship it romantically but I get why people do!! Tim and Bart are close as well, and the balance they get between ‘depressed tired wet cat’ and ‘living breathing embodiment of adhd’ is great.

I also get TimBartKon, they’re a trio. They are always a trio, so many people like to bring up how TimKon has so much coding and one of the big examples they use is when Tim tried to clone Kon. You know who else he tried to clone? Bart.

The only Tim ship I don’t get is TimBern, or any ship involving those two. When Bernard first appears, he’s Tim’s bully. He actively makes fun of tim and puts him down and then that character is forgotten about until Tim comes out as bi, then they just rework his character and go “haha guys this is his boyfriend not bully ygs are crazy” and just forget about all the bad stuff Bernard did? Reworking a character is great and all but, it just feels a bit weird and out of place for me. There’s always going to be that certain toxicity for TimBern, at least for me.

okay, im gonna start off by saying you have all the right to not ship them, and im not here to defend timbern as a ship. im here to defend BERNARD DOWD.

first thing bernard does is give tim advice about teachers, and he clearly says they're gonna be good friends.

if bernard was a bully, tim wouldn't hang around him so much. besides, i hate it when people place tim as a helpless little boy who would get bullied. he has put himself in situations where he looks weak on purpose to keep his identity safe, but he's not a victim at all. tim is a social butterfly because he's really good at masking and reading people.

not to mention, both bernard and darla push tim a lot because they're trying to get him to open up and be closer to them, but he keeps pushing them away. tim is a professional liar.

and when tim has to quit robin and start hanging out with normal people, he invites bernard over.

and bernard is acting relatively normal, and he wants to play video games and talk about how hot tim's stepmom is.

bernard is a normal teenager who has no idea one of his friends is the hero he's so obsessed with. he even shows concern for robin dying and makes up an entire conspiracy theory about batman havin a robin orphanage. you can tell he's afraid of robin being gone for real because at this point they haven't seen robin in months bc tim retired.

i dont know what about all of these interactions gave you the vibe that he's a bully because all i see is a normal teenager teasing his friends and being jealous tim gets more bitches.

im not saying that bernard was never mean or weird around tim, but he definitely wasn't actively bullying tim.

bernard is obnoxious and cocky, yes. but thats just because they wrote him as a real person. he's the school's chameleon, maybe even a little bit of a loser, too. he knows everyone but keeps a safe distance so that he doesn't get pushed into a box. im not sure if, at this point, he was already in a cult or being indoctrinated, but when we see his parents and the dowd home in tim drake: robin that just doesn't look right.

also homie talk about "forgetting all the bad things bernard did" (which in my opinion is none but okay lets follow that logic) everyone forget about all the bad things batman did to tim, he was not a kind and loving mentor, he was cruel to both tim and steph. we forget that batman was kind of an asshole to damien in the beginning. all those things are forgotten for the sake of the batfam.

in conclusion: we're just so used to the idea that superheroes can only ever form strong friendship bonds by having near death experiences together that we forget that the secret identifies exist and that the people who know them by their legal name also means a lot to them. after all, these people are the reason why they're heroes.

i got this ask on my strawpage and was gonna type it up in my notes app and post it to twitter, but i really couldn't figure out a way to say it concisely, so i'm answering it here bc it's prob gonna be long lol.

do i think stancest is actually canon? simply put, no. despite how often i'm like "STANCEST IS CANON!!" i truly don't think that AH and the writers intended stan & ford's relationship to be seen through an incestuous lens.

their relationship is def the heart of the show, second only to dipper & mabel's own bond. they are the center of each other's worlds, their story & character arcs revolve almost entirely around each other, and their happy ending is literally the two of them sailing off into the sunset to spend "the rest of their days" together (ford says this almost word-for-word in journal 3).

but i still don't think all of that was meant to be taken romantically.

in my opinion, where things start to get a little weird is, surprisingly enough, ford's relationship with bill.

the rest is under a cut bc HOLY SHIT this got longer than i expected.

there's no denying that bill was written to deliberately parallel stan in a number of ways, from his mannerisms, to his conman status, to the fact that he calls ford the same name stan did when they were kids.

he's written in a very intentional way that makes him serve as both stan's parallel and his foil, especially in their respective relationships to ford (bill feeds into ford's ego and encourages him to aspire for greatness alone, stan has always been a direct obstacle & challenge to ford's ego, accidentally ruining his chances at WCT & encouraging him to live out their childhood dream together; bill valued infinite power over his own family and destroyed his dimension as a result, stan valued his family over everything, and saved ford and his dimension as a result).

normally, this wouldn't be that big of a deal to a stancest shipper like myself. but as the book of bill & the accompanying website all but confirmed in big, flashing neon lights, ford & bill have a romantic history and are exes.

having the two people closest to ford be compared to one another is one thing. having ford be drawn to bill because of how similar he is to the brother he secretly misses is one thing.

having ford be romantically involved with said character is what makes me raise an eyebrow lol.

again, do i think ford is literally a brocon who's got repressed sexual/romantic feelings for stan?

i do, however, think he has unresolved Brother Issues that led him to subconsciously find comfort in a romantic partner that reminded him of stan (right down to bill calling him stan's nickname for him) in much the same way a person with "daddy issues" may seek out affection & intimacy from someone who reminds them of their father (or is just "fatherly" in general).

that much, i believe, was actually intentional. it's just too blatant to not be lol. it'd be a completely different story if either

bill & stan were nothing alike (untrue) or

ford & bill's relationship was strictly platonic and didn't have any romantic implications (also untrue)

i've said this before, but this isn't just a case of "oh, ford fell in love with someone who just coincidentally reminds him of his brother." bill's use of the nickname "sixer" during their first encounter was a deliberate attempt at appealing to a part of ford that was repressed, vulnerable, and aching, in order to get ford's guard down and make it easier for ford to trust him, and it worked.

billford is a ship that, to put it bluntly, would not exist without ford's buried feelings for stan, even disregarding shipping/incest/etc. ford's desire to be close to stan even platonically is what allowed bill to needle his way into ford's heart in the first place.

and all of this wouldn't be that weird if, again, bill hadn't continued to feed into ford's longing for stan even after they'd established a romantic relationship, by still calling him "sixer" and trying to permanently sever the relationship he had with stan specifically, once he and ford broke up (the phone call he tried to make while in ford's body that was described in tbob).

to put it another way, imagine if wendy was basically an older, taller mabel, or if any of mabel's crushes were eerily similar to dipper. people in the fandom would def take notice and view it as a little strange. so i don't get how people can look at ford dating someone so blatantly and intentionally similar to stan and think to themselves "ah yes, this is normal. ford is completely Normal and definitely doesn't have any underlying issues whatsoever" lmao

to conclude: no, i don't think ford & stan's relationship is actually canonically romantic, nor do i think ford falling in love with bill was incestuous, necessarily.

but i do think that he had a desperate longing to reconcile with stan buried DEEEEEEP down, and it manifested itself in the form of being attracted to bill, which is probably why he never bothered correcting bill's use of the nickname "sixer" since their very first meeting, or ever expressed that it made him uncomfortable.

I have a lot more to say about this freak, than pretty boy, ADHD brain rotted Johnny, so let’s get into it‼️‼️

Ghost is socially awkward as all hell with actual negative rizz, whether platonically or romantically. Most people write him off as weird, creepy, or scary, though that's also part of his charm and mystique for some reason.

Autistic, (and it's painfully obvious lmao). Special interests include Skyrim, DND, Bloodborne, Dark Souls, etc, (wrote a whole fic just talking abt this aspect of his autism lol). Outside of video games, they’re also obsessed with marine life and sea creatures. They're especially fond of sharks, and they love to visit aquariums and the beach. It has encyclopedic knowledge when it comes to most underwater creatures or marine mammals you can think of, and loves to show this off via party trick or just for the sake of rambling about it. (This is also true for the games that they’re clearly highly invested in).

Speaking of his fascination with marine life...He even keeps a few Ranchu goldfish as pets that it bought online from a breeder, (as Ranchu goldfish are one of it’s favorite fish/favorite breeds of goldfish). It thinks of them as it’s own children, and does it’s due diligence and research to provide them with the best care possible, (plus a beautifully decorated tank). Their names are Wotsit, Tangy, and Oswald. Wotsit and Oswald are males, Wotsit is red and black, and Oswald is a "calico" Ranchu. While, Tangy is female, and is orange and white.

At first, Johnny can't for the life of him understand what makes a goldfish, (fish being some of the most boring pets in the world in his humble opinion), so appealing as a pet. But he sees how happy the fish make Simon, so he doesn't really question it, just leaving it at "if they’re happy, than I guess that's all that really matters". Though the more Ghost talks about them with so much excitement and affection in it’s voice for it’s little fishy friends, the more Soap begins to appreciate them and kind of grow attached to them in his own way.

Simon stims by bouncing his legs, pacing, flapping their hands, or grinding his teeth (had to get braces and later a retainer to fix their teeth because of this). It used to mainly stim by rocking back and forth as a child, and he still does it from time to time to help calm himself, or for comfort when they need it. It also likes to walk on their tiptoes,—(he has exceptionally strong legs and calfs because of this habit),—especially when walking up or down stairs.

This detail is more just a general personality trait of his but whatever—

They are very expressive, (Johnny finds it absolutely adorable). For the longest time it’s face was almost always hidden underneath the mask it wears.—The 1-4-1 were shocked—but also positively giddy—At the revelation that big ol' bad Ghost, is WAY more of a softie than it lets on.—A sensitive crybaby, and is a very emotional person. Quite literally can’t help it, (but when the situation calls for it or when they need to get it together, he has excellent control over his emotions).

Ghost often has a hard time understanding other people or what they're feeling due to his autism. They're not heartless by any means, and it tries it's best to understand, but most times they unintentionally come off as insensitive or mean. He’s also brutally honest with people and never lies.

Simon needs constant reassurance due to their often low self-esteem, and Johnny is more than happy to provide that for him. Always praising them and telling them that he’s handsome, that he’s enough, that he’s perfect, that he’s such a good boy.

(Speaking of Soap praising him, Ghost has a praise kink, to which Johnny is also more than happy to indulge. Though will occasionally use it’s kink against it to tease it, such as openly giving it praise during missions. Which Simon is always embarrassed, and seemingly hates it, but in actuality it’s the hottest thing ever).

That he loves them more than anything in the whole wide world, and would not trade him for anything. That he’d never lie, or cheat on him, (and he’s proven time and time again that he’s a man of his word). That it is his “forever” and nothing can change that.

The fact that Johnny is always so considerate of it’s needs touches Simon so deeply, as none of it’s past partners had ever been so respectful. Warming their heart, and it only continues to deepen the love he has for his partner. 💖

Ghost has a rescue German Shepherd named Riley. They love the dog to death, brings him everywhere with them. Simon especially likes to always take Riley with him when they go out jogging or for a run, or whenever they just feel like walking around the neighborhood to clear their head. The two are joined at the hip, not only because they’re incredibly attached to each other...But because Riley is trained as an emotional support animal for PTSD and anxiety-related reasons, and is also a medical alert service dog. Regarding not only some pretty nasty asthma, but he’s got some hereditary cardiovascular/heart issues that could prove to be a real problem.

Simon can't really live without him.

Riley is formerly both a fighting and military dog, they took him as their personal pooch, after no other handlers would work with him due to aggression issues. He has stunning green eyes and a beautiful black and tan coat. Though he's a bit mangy, and heavily scarred with both his ears shredded, (just like Simon hehe). With Ghost having handmade a leather spiked collar and a chain leash to match his overall ruggedness, though Riley's personality couldn't be farther from his tough exterior. Simon has re-trained and re-socialized him very well, and has helped him to unlearn his past temperament/behavior. Good with kids and other dogs and animals, loves people and attention. Though still has just enough bite left in him to be protective and to act as a guard dog for him and Johnny, always at the ready in case something happens. Which in Ghost's eyes is highly important and appreciated in a dog.

Riley's past history really tugged on Simon's heartstrings, so he has dedicated himself to pampering his dog. Getting him the best dog food money can buy, always looking out for a new toy for him when he goes to the store, etc. Riley often will sleep in between Ghost and Soap or at the foot of their bed.

Ghost struggles with PTSD and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). His PTSD stems from his traumatic childhood. While his anxiety is mostly a by-product of his PTSD and trauma, as well as something born from the stress of being in the military, and learning to always be on the alert, never at ease. Though both seem to be somewhat tied to his autism as well.

They have panic attacks regularly, (which can be very dangerous because of his asthma, having to carry an inhaler on him at all times). (Plus, his heart condition is heavily affected by stress, which he’s treated/medicated for, but can still pose a risk). Flashbacks occur more often than not, (their flashbacks mostly happen in their sleep, as nightmares and night terrors).

Johnny is really the only one who knows of their past and mental health. (On all government mandated material, it’s intentionally left vague. The most it recognizes is that Ghost was born in Manchester, that his father's got a lengthy criminal record, and his capture by Roba).

As they don’t really talk about themselves that much, half because they’d rather not bring up such painful memories, and half for the fact he doesn’t really want everything out there on full-display. Either that, or it's just that either no one ever really cared to know, or people weren't stubborn (or stupid) enough to press on it further, (apart from Johnny of course).

Soap is incredibly understanding and patient with it, therefore, it was very easy to open up to him. (Simon still finds that Johnny's the only person he's really comfortable opening up to past a surface level).—Johnny has a strange sort of calming effect on Ghost, and they know it too. Soap being an expert on how to get Simon to relax, making sure his physical health is also well taken care of when such an event transpires. Even though Ghost has a whole-ass service dog for this exact reason and purpose.—Johnny doesn’t care, he wants it to know that he’s there for them, and that he cares deeply for him. Simon appreciating his fawning over him greatly.

Simon also has major depressive disorder (MDD), having struggled with such since childhood, and battles with suicidal ideation/thoughts on the daily.

They have actually even attempted quite a few times in the past. (Fun fact, the closest he’d ever come to successfully killing himself, was when Soap had gone into a months long coma after having been nearly killed by Makarov).

He’ll have depressive episodes that can last from days, to weeks, to months, sometimes being borderline debilitating and/or incapacitating. Soap tries to always be there for it during hard times, and this is no exception. He tries to provide him with what they may need, whether it’s a bit of humor to get it’s mind off things, or consolation after a long day, or maybe a hug, or one of their favorite snacks from the grocery store.—All Ghost has to do is ask, but usually Johnny always knows what he needs without a word being said between them.

Ghost goes to therapy regularly, and it does help a lot, (as they’ve got a fantastic therapist, having provided them with certain tools that'll help to save their skin on more than a few occasions). Though unfortunately despite this,—he’ll never be completely happy or stable. But that’s fine and is something it can live with, as long as he has Soap by their side and other people to support him. 💖

And last but not least…All members of the 1-4-1 having highly specific phobias? Yes please!

As for Ghost…

He is deathly afraid of thunderstorms/has major Astraphobia, as it triggers flashbacks regarding his father’s physical abuse. Simon is about the most vulnerable you’ll ever see him during a thunderstorm, they can’t do anything but curl up into a ball and sob and shake. He’s even pissed himself from fear on a few occasions after a particularly loud clap of thunder. Soap always tries to make sure he’s by their side when bad weather is soon to come, even planning his schedule around it. If they end up having an accident he’ll help to clean them up. Cuddling with him, holding them and having Ghost clinging to him while they cry into his shoulder, attempting to soothe him with lovely words and a gentle touch.

They are also afraid of bugs/have major entomophobia, their entire squad teases and makes fun of them for it, (including Johnny lmao). Though it’s all in good fun, and if Simon ever encounters a single solitary insect…It’s got comfort in knowing their buddies and Soap are there for them, and will protect them. :3 (Idk, I just think it would be hilarious that this grim reaper looking ahh mf, 6’5 brick shithouse of a man, is afraid of a fly getting too close to him).

I really need to gather up my hcs for Gaz and Price and write them down, I love those two as much as Ghost and Soap…I also wanna write shit about NikPrice, bc that’s like my favorite COD ship next to GhostSoap…hrmmm

Summary: He always felt good around Shinichiro. Existing, breathing… everything was easier around him. Everywhere Shinichiro may go, he’d make sure to follow. He felt so warm around Shinichiro. It was as if flowers bloomed in his chest when Shinichiro smiled at him.

At age 13, he realized he was in love with his best friend.

At age 13, he started to cough flowers.

At age 13, he started to smoke.

Now, he’s about to turn 15 and each day leads him closer to his death.

Loving. What a cruel way to die.

He didn‘t remember his life before Shinichiro.

He couldn‘t imagine his life without Shinichiro.

Shinichiro had a strong gravitational field. He attracted every person he met and pushed them to turn around him; gleaming, warm… Takeomi had taken a while to understand what it meant for himself. He was too hypnotized by the perfection that was Sano Shinichiro. He couldn‘t look away. But everything was doing well – Shinichiro looked at him, too. They were never short of playmates: no matter where they went Shinichiro drew them near but at the end there was only him and Shinichiro, nobody else.

Whether it be when their respective parents broke up, when they both became big brother, when Takeomi‘s mother left after giving birth to Senju, when Shinichiro‘s dad die without warning… Shinichiro had been at his side as they got used to their new lifes with their new rules.

So what could Takeomi do if not follow him?

He never got the details as to why his parents broke up --- there had been ups and downs, Takeomi witnessed them, but he didn‘t know what was the last straw. One day Takeomi had both of his parents, the next he had his mother and soon what would become his step-father.

Takeomi became a big brother before Shinichiro. His best friend seemed so happy at the idea. Takeomi was a bit more reluctant. He didn‘t know what it meant; it was a little scary. But seeing Shinichiro so happy, Takeomi told himself that he couldn‘t be that bad. He didn‘t have any news from his father. He… got along with his step-father. They weren‘t that close, but it wasn‘t an issue --- it‘d come over time, right?

They adjusted themselves to their new life. Nothing really changed. They had to get used to babies‘ cry during day and nighttime but that aside, nothing grave. Babies were small.

Shinichiro‘s parents broke up as well. It had been calm and out of a shared agreement contrary to Takeomi‘s parents from what Shinichiro told him, his eyes glistening of repressed tears. He began to cry the second that followed. His weak smile he wore to feign that everything was going well distorted into a horrible grimace.

Takeomi wondered how Manjiro would grew up with only his father. They visited their mother to the hospital from time to time. The Sano parents remained in contact and on good terms, and saw each others sometimes too. Their father saw another woman now from what Shinichiro had told him.

Shinichiro‘s mom continued smiling, even though she couldn‘t see her two sons when she wished. She had a nice smile, Takeomi understood where Shinichiro‘s came from. He looked a lot like her in general. Takeomi, him, looked more like his father which didn‘t help his relationship with his step-father --- but that‘d come!

He only got his eyes from his mother. Shinichiro had told him they were beautiful once. Takeomi had felt very weird and hadn‘t been able to stop smiling. Shinichiro had laughed, telling him his face was entirely red. Yes, it was true, he had felt himself becoming warm everywhere. He retaliated that Shinichiro‘s eyes were themselves very pretty. Shinichiro hadn‘t believed him, thinking Takeomi had only done that to return the favor, that his eyes were common and that he would have preferred to have inherited his father‘s light eyes. Shinichiro‘s eyes weren‘t common. Firstly, because they were Shinichiro‘s, and, and… Takeomi could spent hours thinking about those eyes. It already happened. Two small kind of black holes that sucked everything in but never in a forced way --- two contradictory facts which perfectly represented Shinichiro.

The year that had followed, his mother had announced that he would have a little sister soon. Thinking back about it, even with her cheerful face, she had seemed exhausted. He had been a bit more impatient this time. It was going well with Haruchiyo: they couldn‘t do much together yet and he liked to screamed unlike Takeomi but Takeomi knew that one day or another Haruchiyo would know how to talk and walk and they could play together. Takeomi didn‘t know what he could do with a little sister, but there was surely something!

There had been complications during Senju‘s birth.

His mother had left not long after.

Takeomi found himself responsible to bottle-feed his siblings. He had only done it once prior to that, on his mother‘s lap: she had guided his hands and had done it all, he had been a mere puppet. That lasted one or two weeks before his step-father gave up and sent all three of them at his mother‘s. She had been delighted to have to take care of her grandchildren. A bit less having to take care of Takeomi.

It was cold. He didn‘t have to worry about the infants nor cooking so he didn‘t complain. She didn‘t go up to him to talk but they played shogi sometimes. Fortunately the new house wasn‘t far from where Shinichiro lived with his family. Takeomi didn‘t know how he‘d have dealt with all of that if it hadn‘t been the case.

Two years later, Shinichiro‘s dad died. He never saw Shinichiro cry that much --- and it was Shinichiro. Takeomi had done his best to comfort him. He stayed at his side when the news came. Silence had suffocated them, at least Takeomi had that impression. Shinichiro had collapsed on top of him. They ended up spending the whole afternoon lying on Shinichiro‘s bed while he had cried. Takeomi had remembered of when his father had left him behind. But it wasn‘t the same. He had warped his arms around Shinichiro whose face was drenching his shirt and whose sobs were breaking his heart. He should‘ve gone to the Sano‘s when his father left, he had thought absentmindedly, a hug would‘ve been better than crying alone, doing his best not to throw his mother into a panic.

Shinichiro and Manjiro had to move in their grandpa‘s not so long after; their mother having to stay in the hospital. Fortunately, they were still in Shibuya, Tokyo, not too far from Takeomi.

Without his father, without his mother, Shinichiro started to… act oddly. He was still Shinichiro, no doubt on that, Takeomi would recognize him everywhere, but he started to roll up with bruises and cuts on his body. Takeomi became his nurse of some sort. Shinichiro‘s situation had worried him and Akashi Takeomi had only done one thing in his nothing life --- follow Sano Shinichiro. So he joined him. At the beginning, it was mostly to hold him back when he was going to throw himself into fights then he realized he couldn‘t go up against Shinichiro. No matter how much he tired, he couldn‘t tell him ‘no‘ he couldn‘t stop him from doing what he wanted. And so he started to watch from the sidelines while Shinichiro got beaten up to give him the band-aids more quickly. It didn‘t last long, Takeomi couldn‘t bear to stay here, looking at Shinichiro being pummeled. That‘s how they found themselves both in a world too vast and dangerous form them, leaving little by little their normal life.

As long as he was by Shinichiro‘s side, everything would be fine.

His step-grandmother had noticed it fast. He hadn‘t thought she‘d care, but she did. ‘What kind of example are you giving to your siblings?!!‘ she had screamed. She had left to tell his step-father, without a doubt. In the corridor, Haruchiyo had looked at him, confused, worried. It had been the last straw. He had slammed the door shut, immediately regretted it, thought about Haruchiyo again, to his innocent worry, and broke down crying. He had bitten his lips, refusing any sound to come out, to be heard. He threw a glance blurred by his tears to his window, thought about his grandmother, about the door he had just slammed, about Haruchiyo‘s too expressive face that he couldn‘t bear to see. Everything was about to get worse, he could hear his grandmother yelling his name at the other side of the house. It was best to wait here, to wait the second scolding of the day and endure it. He wouldn‘t handle it. So he stood up on his shaking legs, stepped over his bed, opened his bedroom window and got out. The rain was in full swing since noon, he found himself drenched when he reached the Sano‘s door.

Shinichiro hadn‘t asked a thing. He took him in his arms. They locked themselves in his room. The following day, they had caught a heavy cold.

He woke up to the view of Shinichiro observing him. Shinichiro had smiled down at him when he had noticed Takeomi had woken up. Takeomi‘s heart grew heavier. They had slept together an incalculable number of times --- they were best friends since so long and even if they hadn‘t got many opportunities those past few years they hadn‘t stopped their sleepovers for all that, they had only become rarer.

That was to say that although it hadn‘t been the first time it had happened, it had been the first time Takeomi realized wanting to fall asleep and wake up all his life at his best friend‘s side was perhaps not something best friends wanted to do.

That was to say that it had been the day Takeomi realized he loved Shinichiro, like he had always done, never as a friend.

This day had been the day he found a petal stuck between his teeth.

Months later, it had been Shinichiro‘s turn to gain a little sister. Manjiro had decided to rename himself ‘Mikey‘ around that time. Takeomi never got the full story but it had surely been born out of children‘s logic.

Shinichiro decided to start to smoke soon after (and dragged Takeomi along). Takeomi went from uncertain to a fervent fan of the act when he realized nothing came out of his mouth much anymore --- smoke killed the flowers in his lungs.

Loving Shinichiro, something he had done during his whole life, something that came to him as naturally as breathing, was now the reason behind his chronic asphyxia.

The first flower that blossomed out of his lungs was a freesia. He had coughed almost only that for the first few months. Then it stopped and never came back. But perhaps he hadn‘t noticed them because of his cigarettes and their impact on his lungs and their inhabitants.

Smoke gradually stopped killing the flowers, or maybe was it that the flowers became more resilient, and after his fourteenth birthday it didn‘t do anything to them no more. He was already to addicted at that point and it helped him relax so he didn‘t threw his lighter away and kept spending his allowance on death sticks.

He knew what flowers he coughed because he had bought a book, at the very beginning. It was a common practice, a morbid curiosity. If you die because of something, it was best to know the details, no?

The cashier had done her best not to let anything show through --- that wasn’t her job --- but Takeomi had noticed her slight pity as he was paying for the book.

There were only three kind of person who bought this kind of books: first, florists who wanted to know the meaning behind bouquets they created, then those with a direct or indirect link to hanahaki (often the ills or their families --- doctors and doctors in the making had their own books and didn‘t come to buy for a book for everyday people) and finally, people who were bored.

Takeomi must have looked like an ill man if the cashier had reacted that way.

He had paid and rushed out. He never went back to this store. He should‘ve stolen the book, it would‘ve been easier.

The book was cut in two parts: one on Japanese flower language and one on Victorian flower language, longer. Takeomi didn‘t learn them by heart but when you cough the same flowers over and over again, you start to remember it. He didn‘t know if it was better to know or not.

One of the most interesting information in this book, if not the most important, was about flowers toxicity. Takeomi, who at this moment used to panic everytime he had to hide the flowers --- the proof --- quickly gave up on swallowing them up. Most flowers weren‘t made to be consumed and he was grateful to have learn it this soon.

The book had a chapter dedicated to ‘solutions’ against hanahaki --- as if nobody knew about them. Takeomi flipped through those pages every times, with a rage and disgust he didn‘t think possible to reach.

The disease was focused on the patient‘s feelings. Yet, aside from the extreme solution to get rid of it that everybody knew of there was also another one: one Takeomi knew should be true but avoided to think about.

Hanahaki disappeared when the patient didn‘t experience feelings anymore for the, then former, object of affection.

In no universe would Akashi Takeomi stop having feelings for Sano Shinichiro.

To me, Cole always has been sorta queer-coded. Like in the very beginning when he wanted his father to accept him for being a ninja and not a dancer was giving such coming out vibes.

And that Cole notoriously is the one ninja never really having a love interest. Sure there was that weird love triangle with Nya in season 3 but I don't think he really likes her tbh. Also; Vania. They were confirmed to only be friends by one of the writers, Doc Wyatt.

But that doesn't necessarily mean ppl cannot ship them. I personally don't bc I'm tired of every time in the show when a girl and a guy first meet they end up getting together (or at least having feelings for one another) and Cole and Vania seemed to have more of a brother- sister dynamic to me if anything :P

So here are my opinions on the things you've asked me:

1. Charlos: I seriously love them. But recently they remind me of a divorced couple. (I'm a child of divorce. I'm talking about Charlos btw. Not actually a child of divorce) And it HURTS!!! if you told me a year or two ago that I'd be going through this, I'd laugh in your face. But I love Charlos and the angst, the humor, and the clinginess. They're honestly so cute. They're not my fav (we all know who my fav is) but they definitely made it to my top 7. But also, I feel like Carlos fans and Charles fans have different opinions abt Charlos. Most Carlos fans love it and adore it, while most Charles fans ignore Carlos and seem to make him a bad person and compare the two. (Which driver was the only non rb winner last year?)

2. Carcar: IT'S HONESTLY SO GOOD!! It's such a random ship bc it came out of nowhere and we all started loving it. The jokes that are made (check Oscar's tt comment section) are so funny. It's probably in my top 5 because I love random funny ships like them. I also love the whole "we share a mutual good friend who wants us to get along but we low-key don't think we ever will" type trope. But Carlos has come forward and talked about their "rivalry" or lack of, I should say. So I approve of Carcar

3. Versainz: idk if I have talked about them, but if I have, oh well I'm gonna talk about them again. Versainz is the best ever. I miss them being teammates and the whole "we're both nepo-babies that need to make our dad's proud and we're fighting for the same seat" I WISH Carlos got that seat, tho I'm happy for Checo. Ily, Checo 🫶🏼 Versainz gives me that whole "we're low-key in love with each other but can't act on it bc we both have trauma and internalized homophobia." vibe and I love it lmaoo. I didn’t mean to come off as mad or anything, sorry if the tone didn’t translate right! BUT! I did get a little frustrated, because this is something that people who ship non-canon ships rlly need to figure out.

And hello to you anon, and also to whatever anon send the original ask! Because considering the amount of anti-Sokeefe friends I have in this fandom, you totally might be one of my friends! Want to be clear—this isn’t because I have a problem with you not liking Sokeefe, the problem is with saying she saw him as a sibling in canon when she did NOT see him as a sibling in canon, because that has icky implications.

Since I don’t want to misrepresent anyone’s opinions, here’s the exact message:

That’s the part that bothered me, because that implies that in canon, the thoughts sophie has about Keefe seem more like a sister about a brother.

It’s one thing to read Percy Jackson and say, “wow, I just don’t really like a Percabeth ship :/” and that’s totally valid, like, ship whatever you want! Ship Annabeth with Piper if you’d like, or Percy with Jason or whatever!

But it’s another thing to say “Percy always saw Annabeth as a sister!!” 1) that’s a weird thing to say because they’re canonically together and so comparing them to siblings is really icky, and 2) if you actually read the books it’s very clear that he develops romantic feelings for her. Even if it’s not super prevalent in the first few books cause they start out as twelve.

So people who say Sophie never seemed to like Keefe until book 9 sound to me like if someone said Percy never liked Annabeth or considered her romantically until the kiss in battle of the labyrinth. Just because it wasn’t a focus of the narrative doesn’t mean it wasn’t there from the beginning—and it CLEARLY was!

It just sort of feels like a really icky reaction to not liking a ship to say they always acted like siblings when clearly that isn’t canon.

If you don’t like Sokeefe, maybe you can say you would have preferred it if Sophie saw Keefe as a brother. Maybe you can write fanfic where they’re just friends and have more of a sibling type relationship. But that isn’t canon and that’s FINE, you don’t have to be on board with everything in canon, but for the love of God not liking a ship doesn’t mean they were never interested in each other 😭

Especially cause the ask didn’t even say she saw him as a friend, it said she saw him as a sibling??? Hello??? That’s SUCH a weird thing to say about two people who are now canonically dating???

It’s slightly different because she acknowledged that one more overtly beyond just commenting on how good he looked or how he made her feel, but it would still really frustrate me if someone said Sophie and Fitz had more of a sibling relationship in canon when clearly they had romantic feelings for each other. So like it has nothing to do even with the fact that I ship Sokeefe, I would get frustrated if it was about Sophitz too because you just can’t say that someone who has very clear romantic thoughts about someone always saw them as a sibling in canon

Anyway. I know im not being super tactful but I do hope that anon sees this so they can understand what the problem was with the ask, which wasn’t that it was anti-Sokeefe. I’m super okay with someone not liking Sokeefe. Literally a bunch of my best friends in this fandom are anti-Sokeefe. hoo boy. I was wondering when someone would ask me the burning question about super popular ships.

Okay before i get into it I'll say right now that I'm an extensive romance writer. I've done multiple fics who focus strongly on romance, it's my favorite genre, I've done a LOT of it, and I work on multigenre so I'm always like. Trying to work extra hard to make stories interesting, compelling, character driven, etc etc.

If you want to say "volume doesn't equal quality" to me, i dont fucking know, read my fics before saying that my writing sucks lmao.

And this is just a little bit, I started writing these in january. Anyways, what I mean by this is that I tend to think a LOT when thinkin about romance, I consider every angle, every possibility, I'm not the kinda person that goes "I ship them bc theyre cute" And nothing else, yknow? Yeah you can consider me pretentious if you want, i'm that family guy suit wearing meme lmao.

Anyways, when it comes to writing romance on adapting characters, I often consider multiple angles, such as canon chemistry, fanon chemistry, tropes the characters exist on and tropes they can easily build upon, and one of the most important: What does each of these individual characters want/don't want in a relationship, and what can they provide each other.

There are characters for example that dont express any interest in romance, but that doesnt mean they wouldnt have an ideal partner n whatnot. (Like Twilight not rly ever expressing desire for romance, but very much benefiting from ruling alongside someone) There are characters that are obsessed with romance, but might actually be best with an ideal that isnt what they expected. (How rarity wanted a handsome prince, but might instead just want a fiercely loyal partner that fullfils her emotionally and phisically etc.)

So now we get to the ships that you mentioned.

Twilight sparkle is a studious nerd who enjoys a quiet day reading and relaxing, she loves learning and exploring ideas quietly. How the hell would she ever be happy with Pinkie, who CANNOT sit still, clearly doesnt care for studying or being quiet, and wants to be the center of attention all the time. Sure you could try to spin it as an "Aww the kitty want's attention" But that really isn't enough for me; And it's kinda messed up to HAVE to put your interests aside to give attention to your partner. ...Especially when canon Pinkie's track record with twilight is usually just annoying her over anything and everything.

anyways, canon Pinkie gets together with Cheese sandwich, which is essentially a copy of her. A bit lame, sure, but with it we can understand what she wants in a relationship; she want's to be challenged, she wants someone to match her freak, or at least accompany it. Yeah it's still lame to have a copy of her, but we can take it from the canon exactly what she wants, even if it isn't necessarily what she needs.

What the hell does Twilight provide that Pinkie wants? How does Twilight challenge pinkie on her favorite things, on partying, on living wild? Twilight wants to be chill and read books, why would that be anything but excruciating to pinkie, ESPECIALLY canon pinkie who revels on interrupting and annoying and making the whole room pay attention to her?

This is elementary stuff to me, it's one of the reasons why Sunset x Pinkie works so much, because although Sunset is NOT a copy of Pinkie, she absolutely can match her freak, they can challenge each other and push each other further, they can be a dynamic duo that both love their respective methods of partying. It's lovely! (And hey Sunset has amazing chemistry with twilight for similar reasons, they were both studious under the same teacher, magical overachievers, etc etc etc.)

Imagining that Pinkie has to mellow out to get with someone is kinda weird, since, its the cornerstone of her character that shes bubbly, hiperactive, and loud. And in sunpie you got the brilliant "People that cheerful make me nervous-- Well, not all people, hi Pinkie." ANYWAYS lets get to appledash, I've written enough and got more stuff to do.

In the subject of tropes, this ain't opposites attract, but it isn't equals attract either. People tried convincing me that its smth related to butch v butch romance? but idk if I'm sold on it, generally like... Even if you don't take canon Rainbow into account and how she antagonizes AJ (and most people frankly) and you take it as it is, why would Applejack want to settle down with someone that doesn't care about family or farm work and has no business experience and whatever?

And why, goddamn why, would rainbow dash, the flyby crazy soaring high girl that loves to always be in the skies want to live in a goddamn farm, idk man idk. Sure you can make the argument that it's cute that they'd 'settle' for each other after a rivalry, but eh, they're not even official rivals like lightning Dust, and still! And if you want Rainbow to settle for a quiet life with someone she cares about... Fluttershy is right there, and she is much more chill, much more dedicated to a quiet life, AND she's a childhood friend. If you want Rainbow to get with a rival or with someone that can match her freak, both Lightning Dust and Spitfire are right there, both pegasi, both characters that have this importance and connection to her favorite thing: FLYING (Maybe rainbow is a little bit racist??! Lmao) I also think it doesn't help that AJ has history with so many femme girls that are all rly fun pairs with her (Rarity, Rara, Autumn blaze, Cherry, etc etc) So Rainbow 'the girl that doesn't shower Dash' feels like a sore thumb sticking out on that trend.

Applejack wants someone she can be fiercely loyal and loving with, she's a family mare and she is (by obvious reasons) grounded. Those aren't exactly the perfect fit for Dash, it feels like they'd have to compromise too much to be together.

generally for me is hard to multiship when there's a bunch of better character chemistries surrounding these character. I've refrained from mentioning rarijack too much on this whole shebang but like CMON. And hey. Appledash shippers. If you try to 'gotcha' me and say that appledash is canon, I'll remind you that you have less content than Korrasami. If that satisfies you, lmao, then you have my pity

OKAY, I've always disliked it and I had a really petty reason in the beginning.

The first time I ever saw anything huntlow related was WAY before they ever interacted. Someone had posted a picture on the Owl House subreddit of two characters who looked almost exactly like Hunter and Willow, talking about how they thought it was hunter x willow art at first. And one person said something along the lines of like "winter is one of my favorite ships bc their names make an actual word." And I kinda went "thats a really weird reason to like a ship and also they don't even know about each other's existence??" and I haven't liked it since lmao

Honestly, I think one of the Owl House's only major flaws is that it kind of fell victim to that thing some media does where they try to pair off their main characters in a way that gets them the All Three Achievement by having a lesbian couple, a gay couple, and a straight couple. Owl House has Lumity, Huntlow, and Gustholomule (although the last two are only implied). The Simon Snow series did the same thing, which made the last book worse for me than it would have been otherwise.

idk it just annoys me. Not everyone needs to be paired off, and you don't need to try to fulfill some quota with your romantic relationships.
