Scooby Doo, my incarnation: The first part of Episode 1, when trying to leave their hometown of Crystal Cove to start their second year of college, the Mystery Gang finds themselves trapped in Crystal Cove.

LMK: Xiaojiao jokingly challenges Red to a duel only for both of their families to take it super seriously, especially when old grudges (aka Ao Lie’s death) are brought up

PJO: The Romans do not take kindly to random people judo-flipping their praetors, and Annabeth is forced to think about the amount of violence in her and Percy’s relationship. (A thing that came to mind when re-reading the books.)

LMK/FNAF: After a nasty argument with her parents, Long Xiaojiao decides to cut herself off financially from them and get a job. However, the only available position is a night guard of an American pizza chain. Shouldn’t be too hard…right?

TOH: Old fic idea where Luz is forced to team up with the Golden Guard to deal with the inspiration for the Xenomorphs.

I just read a bunch of Owl House Criticism and have to say… a lot does make sense. I still rate the show very high and honestly I blame the pacing for a lot of the issues we DO have with the show. I also think people are taking this way more seriously then they should and some do the complaints feel nitpicky.

One thing a lot of people brought up is Luz’s character and how the first episode showed her casual dismissal of others and their safety occurs. Then there was a few comments on how Vee is right to call her out on running away and other things.

I don’t fully disagree. Luz fucked up big time her first episode where she brought live animals and fireworks to school. It’s just… no. I don’t deny people should have punished her for it. I vote that the Shakespeare play and the cheerleading thing aren’t worth punishment though. Because both are honestly just quirky kid things. She wanted to be cool so she did something she liked to try and impress others. They thought it was creepy and reacted to it. Good reasons for her to be kind of shoved aside by some people. The spiders and snakes though? Yikes.

But to just call her a bad character puts a nasty taste in my mouth because I think she is one that is a good character and whom I think would have been fun to explore. It’s just… she’s kind of a concept that was tried but fell flat.

I think the summer camp thing was handled badly and I would have liked to be explained why they never tried to talk to her about what a reasonable amount of creativity is in her school work. If it turns out they had attempted to do so multiple times but she never listened: the camp is probably a better idea then not. More so given her actions could have gotten her arrested. Honeslty leaning on that idea would have been interesting. Luz being told she had to go to camp or face probation or something would have been an interesting hook.

My friend said she felt therapy would have been better and yeah that’s a good point: but what if they did try and it didn’t work? What if they felt a camp was less expensive ? (Which it probably was.)

I would have liked more evidence that Luz was an outcast. I saw a lot of criticism on this because if you just look at the show face value: Luz does seem like she’s whining about a lot of stuff. Her mom turned out to be like her and only wanted her to not get bullied as Camila did in school. She could have made friends at camp. There’s just so much there that does make Luz seem like a bad person for being upset. And honestly it would be interesting to explore that to, to really pick apart the dramatic ‘me against the world’ mindset of teenagers who see themselves as outcasts. But the show is supposed to be about weirdos and found family.

So: I would actually nix Camila being a nerd. Manny was the nerdy one who loved fantasy, encouraging it in Luz. I would have had him be the one who was more open about Luz’s everything while Camila was more wary and put off. Sure, she could still laugh at the snake skin incident, but I would want her to be less accepting of the other stuff. I said that the first episode reminded me of my mom when I got my diagnosis of autism and she didn’t understand it. I would want to lean in.

Manny and Luz should have been canonly neurodivergent. Camila is neurotypical and she constantly compared her two family members because Manny could mask very well. Luz couldn’t. But I would have Camila struggle to understand that her daughter’s own brand of autism/ADHD is vastly different then her husband’s because it’s so common. I can’t tell you how many time people are like: oh you’re lying about being this cause you don’t act like BLANK.

Camila and Luz then have a conflict which makes it more understandable why Luz is willing to lie to her mother about not being at camp. Because Camila is set up to not understand Luz and possibly she would be pushing her daughter to act ‘normal’ because she doesn’t understand. Again this is inspired by my mom. I have vivid memories of her worrying about appearances and how others think of us, with her pushing me towards things I didn’t like. Some of it was out of concern for me, but there was a huge lack of understanding that drove a wedge between us for a while.

I would then have the idea that Luz is bullied be obvious. Luz would reference it or recall incidents. And I would have them be unpleasent. Being ditched by so called ‘friends’, name calling and mocking. Maybe having her things stolen or random crap dumped in her locker. I would have her be the outcast from the start. I would also address her being a POC person in a small town. Luz could have met Masha or the other two kids: I want a reason why she didn’t connect.

I grew up with almost no friends but people generally didn’t hate me. I got bullied a bit but most of the time I was ignored and happy about it. When I was a kid I was very particular and drove people off due to this. When I made friends I was with other weirdos: some of whom were alone because they were just… I can only call them very weird and slightly disturbing. One of whom was a girl who’d flip on a dime if she liked you or not.

Masha in canon is goth and is there to be the ‘cool goth kid’. I would have had them be dismissive of Liz’s fondness for the Azura series and possibly the type to mock her for liking a ‘gushy girly book’ because take it from this enby: a lot of us go through the phase of shunning anything feminine and romantic to be ‘cool’. I would have a reason why two people who could have totally been friends weren’t.

Luz would be an outcast among outcasts. Just that shade of different.

I want her to have suffered in school. I want her to have to explain that it’s true no one understood her. I want her to be able to look Vee in the face to go: you know nothing. Because Vee only sees a surface and not the full sum of it. Vee who isn’t into Azura and thus gets Masha being: oh you matured cool. I want to hang now. Who goes to Camila who is thankful her baby seems able to mask now.

I want Camila to be able to mistake Vee for her own kid because ‘oh god yes she’s finally normal’. And I want Luz to point this out. I want Luz to point out to Vee the other kids said camp was prison. And that ‘you might have liked it for some reason but can you say I would have? Masha thinks I’m a freak for liking Azura. They told me I was a loser for it.’

I want there to have been a damn good reason more then we got for WHY Luz stayed in the isles.

Not to say I don’t want Luz to feel bad about lying or anything. I just want the whole outcast thing to be more apparent. Luz feeling awful about lying and about resenting her mom who does love her versus the fact she never felt safe in the human realm is an idea worth exploring!!

She Won't Be Going To Reality Check Camp (A crack fic that's based on / inspired by this ask)

"I said, grief can manifest in different ways. Like how Luz has been acting out for attention," The male guidance counselor told Camila in a very serious and stern voice as the mother was currently sitting in his office for a meeting.

He continued to stare her down as his hands were folded on his desk.

"Losing Manny was difficult for both of us," Camila would sadly admit, clenching her body from the anxiety she felt as she gazed down from the counselor's gaze.

She let out a grief stricken sigh.

These sort of meetings always made Camila feel nervous, and she always hated having to go to them.

After a brief moment, she returned her attention to the guidance counselor.

"But Luz has always done things differently."

Camila attempted to sound optimistic while defending her daughter, despite the mother still holding onto her stomach.

Although she was still very nervous, she was attempting to appear unnerved.

"Didn't you say you were bullied in high school, Mrs. Noceda?" A raised brow and a small gesture of his right hand would be used by the guidance counselor in bringing up the topic.

The momeries caused Camila to squeeze her stomach tighter.

Although she wanted to cry, she kept her composure despite the difficulty of it.

'Keep it together, Camila,' She told herself in her head as she mentally rehearsed her reply to the counselor.

"Uh, yes, but-"

The guidance counselor rudely interrupts Camila while flipping through a file of Luz's records.

"Luz hasn't made any friends, her grades are inconsistent, and I heard she brought a live snake to school? Take this."

He retrieves a Reality Check pamphlet from the folder and hands it to Camila.

"It could help her."

"'Reality Check Camp'?" Camila read the title of the leaflet in a somber tone, her brows furrowed with uncertainty.

"You don't want Luz to struggle like you did, right?" The guidance counselor would ask Camila.

As Camila viewed the pages on the pamphlet, her brown eyes slowly widen as she was suddenly struck with realization before looking up at the counselor.

"Wait! Before I proceed with this decision, I would like to speak to my husband first about it."

"Your husband?" The guidance counselor's gaze was filled with genuine confusion. "But Mrs. Noceda, I thought you said he had passed away."

"Yes, but I remarried," Camila informed as she pulled out her phone from her pocket and began dialing her house number.

Beardo Philip was at home happily humming a tune to himself while preparing dinner in his horse apron when suddenly the house phone rang.

Placing the pasta dish in the oven, he answers it.

"Noceda residence."

"Philip, it's me."

A flirty smile crossed his lips as he heard his wife's voice on the line. "Hello, my sweet angel."

Camila let out a small giggle as she blushed. "Hola, mi amor."

When she sees the annoyed expression on the counselor's face, she clears her voice and tries to sound more professional.

"Uh, right now, I'm at a meeting at Luz's school with her counselor, and he wants her to go to Reality Check Camp-"

Philip ends the phone call.

"Hello? Philip? Mi amor?" Camila is worried as to why her husband hung up the phone.

Suddenly, the office door flew open and Philip bursts in, his eyes brimming with anger.

This surprises both Camila and the counselor.

"Send my daughter to Reality Check Camp and I'll send you to your grave."

Philip's threat was made clear when he got into the counselor's face.

"Y-Yes, sir!" The counselor nodded swiftly before he ducks under his desk in fear.

Philip's eyes were no longer flaming as he picked up Camila bridal style with a huff.

After being lifted into Philip's arms, Camila gave a small yelp and blushed before wrapping her arms around his neck, clinging to him.

"Come, my love," Philip gently told her as he walked out of the office.

"Let's take you home."

This is definitely the saddest wedding anniversary in Spiderbit history. We still haven't heard from either of them, but I wanted to share this song that reminds me so much of q!Roier's perspective in the last days he was seen on the island: devastated, with no will to live, remembering how much he loved his husband and how much he wanted to see him again.

Also, as the song says, their love story is one of a kind. To such an extent that it has always been an inspiration for others on the island who would like to have by their side a person who loves them with the same devotion that q!Roier loves q!Cellbit and vice versa.

I have once again made fan art for @tunafishprincess' The Wolf House AU. Sorry if some people are tired of this. Tunafishprincess, if you want me to stop, please tell me.

This time, I did a fan design of what I think Lilith might look like in this AU.

I got some inspiration from her concept art. Also, am I crazy, or did one of her concept outfits become Darius' canon outfit?

I also based some of it off The Wolf House Luz's design and my Empress Llorona's design.

I feel like she would still be in the empeor's, or in this AU, Empress' coven. She might even still be the leader of the coven.

I headcanon that in the canon show, she dyed her hair because she felt bad that the curse she put on Eda caused her hair to lose its natural reddish color while hers was fine, but since in this AU Eda is not cursed, I don't think she would have dyed her hair.

As much as I love Lilith, a part of me wonders if she would still be redeemed in this AU. The empress isn't after her sister, and she has no problem with magic mixing. She is after and wants to destroy humans. So, if Lilith had no interaction with humans and was only ever shown the good side of the empress, would she still switch sides? Even if she found out her sister was a rebel and met Hunter, would she still be loyal to the empress?

Heck, if Lilith is the leader of the empress' coven, would Empress Llorona give her the job of capturing Hunter?

What if Lilith finds out that the empress herself is a human and is doing all of this because her witch husband and daughter were killed years ago? Would that make Lilith change her mind, or does that make her believe what the empress is doing is best even more because if even a human hates humanity, then that shows how cruel humanity truly is?

Or was Lilith with Eda when she found the portal and went to the human world? Is she already part of Eda's secret rebellion?

Who knows. For all I know, she is not even the head of the empress' coven. This isn't my AU afterall. These are all just guesses.

But I mean...my point want just about the chemistry. It was about the storytelling and relationship development, too. And I think, just in general wanting compelling relationships =/= wanting the torment nexus.

All you have to do is look at the canon queer ships that are hugely popular in fandom. The ones that are well done or interesting, or have a purpose and story beyond just getting two characters to fall in love. Wangxian, Blackbonnet, and Ineffable Husbands were the #3, 5, & 14 top written ships on ao3 in 2022 (Also in the top 100 in the past several years include Hannigram, Hua Cheng/Xie Lian, Ian/Mickey, Magnus/Alec, Wen Kexing/Zhou Zishu; Adora/Catra, Amity/Luz, etc.) All* of these feature characters canonically in love, dating/married, kiss/sex scenes. (*Hannigram only has one-sided onscreen confirmation of love, the rest is Word of God from Fuller). And yet, people are still writing 10s of 1000s of fics about them.

It also follows with what I said. With the exception of a couple of the listed ships, they all got together very near to, or at the end, of the series. In the ones where they get together sooner, they still have breakups and miscommunication along the way before their happy endings. And in *none* of them is the romance the main point or plot of the story. People get excited in fandom when there are still stories to be told.

And you see it occasionally with het ships, too. Like how Hermione/Draco is @ #18 vs the canon Hermione/Ron at #55. People are more inspired by the more complicated or trope-rich ships than the canon ships that got together because...reasons?

I know everyone likes to gang up on people who ship 'problematic' ships and 'problematic' fandoms, and yeah it annoys me when some awesome queer rep goes unnoticed while fandom goes crazy over a queerbaity ship that's been around forever. I'm salty af about all the gaslighting , or the gays we've buried in fandom. I've definitely fallen for queerbait in the past, even when I 100% knew what was being done, but while I'm over being jerked around by writers, I don't blame people who do get invested in something that's written to be a ship. I'm not going to play int the writer's narrative that I'm wrong for see something that isn't there. The point is, it *is* there.

And it's also unfair to expect people to compromise on the quality of content they're given because something is perceived to be morally superior or more genuine. Just because a creator is queer doesn't mean they're any good at writing, or good at queer rep, or a good person, full stop. Just because something gives canon queer ships doesn't mean it's worth fandom's attention.

give an audience a canon gay ship and they will be entertained for one season. queerbait them and you entertain them for a lifetime.

Webgott

Web tosses and turns, changing his position roughly a dozen times before he falls asleep and then a dozen more after he does. (This is the origin of his legendary bedhead.) The only time that he's truly still - beautiful face slack, mouth predictably agape, drooling on the pillow - is after a good, hard, thorough fucking. Joe woks hard to regularly achieve this result. How else is he gonna get any sleep? A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

Lieb secretly loves being the little spoon but he will punch you right in the dick if you ever breathe a word about it to anyone. He tells himself it's because he likes the body heat, which is part of it. He's a skinny fucker and he feels the cold worse than anybody else. But more than that, he likes feeling safe and protected, wrapped in Web's buff arms, his soft body fur warm against his back. But again, fist meets dick if you say a fucking word.

Speirton

Speirs steals the covers. All the covers. The sheet, the comforter, the bedspread, the throw blanket that was on the chair in the other room. He flatly denies it of course, even as he peers sleepily out of his blanket burrito. Tired of waking up shivering, Lip starts bringing his own covers, but of course in the morning those have been absorbed into the blanket burrito too. With a long-suffering sigh, he tells Ron that he might have to start sleeping on the couch or just not sleeping over at all. The next morning Lip wakes up covered in sweat, wrapped up in Ron and every blanket on the bed. He has been absorbed into the blanket burrito too.

Lip is a deep sleeper. Once he's out, he is OUT. He can sleep through anything. A train. An earthquake. A chainsaw. Ron knows. He's done experiments. The only things that seem to wake Lip are his alarm clock, the sun and Robbie. Somehow his tiny cries have Lip up and moving in an instant. Whether he's truly awake at these times, is debatable however. As the bottle of baby formula in the toaster will attest.

Baberoe

Gene is a light sleeper. His time as a combat medic has conditioned him to wake at the slightest disturbance and he does, often. He will jerk awake at Babe's sudden snore or the radiator clicking on and then that’s it. He's awake. Sometimes Babe is startled to see Gene already sitting up in bed, pale and wide eyed, still but vigilant, a thrum of taught energy coiled inside him like a compressed spring. "You're like a damn owl. Jesus!" Babe will mutter, hand on his heart. Gene just smiles sheepishly at him. Babe will then pull Gene down beside him, until his head is on his chest and he’ll tell him all about the crazy dream he just had while stroking Gene's dark, silky hair.

Babe has vivid, bizarre dreams. Sometimes they're bad dreams (Julian reaching for him in the snow as a pack of mutant zombie wolves devour him alive). Sometimes they're good dreams (walking down an aisle made of springy pink Jell-O to a smiling, glowing? Cajun doctor as his family and friends smile and cheer around them). Sometimes they're just... weird (having a heated discussion with Abe Lincoln about snickerdoodles vs gingersnaps while dressed in lady's lingerie). He really never knows what it's going to be. Gene keeps telling him that he should keep a dream journal but Babe doesn't really see the point. He doesn't have any trouble remembering them and Gene’s the only person he wants to tell about them anyway.

Winnix

Dick sleeps in full-on grandpa pajamas, complete with socks in the winter, which Nix finds abhorrent. He doesn't understand how that much fabric can possibly be comfortable to sleep in. He'd rather add three more blankets to the bed than put on one stitch of clothing. Plus, the fact that Dick is denying him access to his glorious naked body is just rude. ("Nix we're just going to be sleeping, what does it matter?" he argues. "Well if you're wearing 12 layers of clothes that's certainly all we're gonna be doing!") However, Nix soon discovers that if he wears Dick out completely with athletic sex, Dick is too exhausted to get dressed for bed, just collapsing in a naked, sweaty heap like God intended. Eventually, Dick is broken of his pajama habit. The socks, unfortunately, are still a thing.

Nix is a night owl and doesn't so much fall asleep as pass out, usually not before 2 am. It's not that he doesn't get sleepy. Dick will see his eyes getting heavy and suggest maybe he come to bed, only for Nix to argue that he's not tired like a petulant child avoiding nap time. Dick goes to bed early but finds it difficult to fall asleep alone in the big, cold bed. Eventually, he tells Nix that he doesn't care how late he stays up so long as he does it in bed next to him. Nix agrees, as he usually does to suggestions involving Dick and a bed. And sometimes, the sound of Dick's steady breathing lulls Nix to sleep as early as midnight.

Luztoye

Luz talks and even laughs in his sleep. The first time it happened, Joe thought he was fucking with him, making some kind of joke about purple detergent that he wouldn't explain. It irritated Joe to no end and he had trouble falling asleep. He was moody and gruff the next morning (even more so than normal for a Tuesday) to Luz's utter mystification. The next time it happened, Joe got so irritated that he turned on the light to confront Luz, only to find him obviously deeply asleep. Joe then starts writing down all the absurd shit that Luz says in his sleep ("Colonel Sink doesn't even LIKE petunias... Only if you pleeeease Mr. Beauregard... Fourteen yellow spinks.") and starts telling Luz about it in the morning. It becomes kind of fun after that, even though Joe still pretends he thinks it's weird and annoying. However, that attitude changes the night he overhears Luz telling Rita Hayworth about all the different ways Joe is amazing.

Joe likes to cuddle. He fucking hates that word but he guesses it's true. Touching is definitely better than talking. It's a lot less complicated. So, when no one else is around, like in bed, he likes to touch. It helps him express things he has trouble saying otherwise. Luz has never fallen asleep without Joe touching him somewhere – a hand resting on his bicep, a leg tangled with his, an arm slung around his waist. Sometimes Luz will fall asleep as Joe traces idle patterns on the skin of his back. That might be the best. Or maybe it's when he plays with his hair...

Bull/Martin (Bulltin?)

Bull snores – loudly. Like, really loud. Buzz saw loud. Jet engine loud. Can-still-be-heard-under-three-pillows loud. At first Johnny hates it and shakes Bull awake the moment it starts, giving him the patented Johnny Martin Don't Make Me Kill You with My Bare Hands look. But after a while the sound becomes an insanely loud kind of white noise that Johnny finds he can't sleep without.

Johnny has been dubbed Sargeant Starfish by the only person on Earth brave enough to do so. Bull is constantly amazed that such a small person can take up such an insane amount of space in a bed. He's not even surprised when he wakes up curled into a (not so) tiny ball at the foot of the bed like a dog. Johnny's been taking up all the space in his world for a while now. Why should it be any different in his bed?

Bonus

Buck sleeps with a teddy bear inexplicably named Mr. Jingles. He doesn't even think it's weird. Which is the weirdest part.

Malarkey sleep walks. And sometimes sleep bakes. He scared the crap out of Muck and Penkala the first time that happened. He wandered into the kitchen and started trying to bake a fully frozen ham still wrapped in plastic. The smoke alarm woke them up thank God, but they put a special lock on his door after that.

Skinny can and will sleep anywhere. In class. On public transportation. In waiting rooms. During car rides longer than 10 minutes (even if he's driving). He doesn't know why. He gets plenty of sleep at night. His brain just seems to see any idle moment as an opportunity to catch more z's.

Perconte wears a mouth guard to sleep because he grinds his teeth at night. His diligent oral hygiene is a result of all the time he spent at the orthodontist as a kid.

Shifty can lucid dream. He didn’t even know that’s what you called it, but there you go. When he was a boy he kept having the same nightmare over and over about a huge black panther chasing him. He came to be real sick of it. So he decided to shoot the thing. Every night before he fall asleep he’d concentrate real hard on what he wanted to happen. At first he’d have his rifle in the dream but it wouldn’t fire. Then after a while it would fire but he’d miss. Finally, after several weeks, he shot the panther right between the eyes. Only, as it fell to the ground it turned into a black sock. After that, he could pretty much decide what he wanted to dream about.

     There’s a lot to be said, regarding how Thanks To Them handled what it managed to do in under almost an hour quite well, but what I specifically want to focus on is the colossal amount of emotional weight it gave in-depth for Luz & Camila’s relationship because holy shit it was great, overall. In the past, I’ve seen posts here and there attempt to slam Camila as a parent calling her irresponsible or outright manipulative in the way she wanted to balance Luz’s creativity or that knee jerk reaction at Yesterday’s Lie concluding on a somber conversation between these two. Some were quick to peg Camila as being dismissing of her daughter choosing to stay on the Boiling Isles, when in reality she was merely concerned for Luz’s safety and not to mention questioning her abilities to be a competent parent in all of this, as well.

    Thanks To Them fully puts into perspective just how rough Camila has had it as a single parent. It wasn’t just losing her husband that was painful, but also the consistent berating Luz would get from onlookers passive aggressively judging her antics, which were heavily implied to have been inspired by Manny. He seems to have been apparently a very silly father figure that wanted to inspire his daughter about vibrant imagination, hence that Azura book being the last thing he gave her before passed away, due to unfortunate health issues of some kind. Honestly, I know I sound like a broken record here, but I can’t further reinforce my point enough on these impressive ways the Owl House crew managed to salvage all this insightful characterization around the Noceda family tree. It masterfully makes any moment from Luz’s creativity throughout this series run have such deeper meaning. She was trying to keep her father’s faith alive and that can be said for a lot what Luz has done through compassion.

     Went from simply loving Camila’s character to absolutely seeing myself in the way she struggles to stand up for Luz’s nature as a human being. Manny may be gone, but she doesn’t let that grief stop her from allowing Luz to live life the way her kid wants. The notion of parenthood comes in and out of my head often about how I would fair in the department of being a father. Would I make the right choices for my child? Could I prevent the same unfortunate stuff I went through not repeat for their new life? Camila was dealt an unfair hand by life and desires to give Luz a place she can call home. It’s why she sent Luz off in the first place to that camp at this story’s beginning. She never wanted Luz to do a 180 in personality, or stop having an imagination that makes her a vibrant child. Camilia’s main goal in all of this was to prevent Luz’s bullying at school from potentially increasing, the more she took her antics further.

     This in of itself portrays the issues of our education system with how it views other peoples’ learning capabilities. Attempting to put a label it all as grief for Luz’s acting out in their assignments, given Manny’s passing, is only a half truth severely exaggerated. Sure, losing her Dad had a huge profound change in Luz, but even when Manny was alive she has always done things differently. If anything, Manny’s sudden passing made Luz double down on the way she views things in general determined to stand up proudly for it, regardless of what anyone said. Luz was paying her respects to Manny, by living her life without regret. In this regard, it makes sense why Luz goes to such great lengths in trying to fix any mistake she feels accountability for whether it’s unintentionally helping Belos’ plans through time travel, regret for not coming home to Camila sooner, or Amity, Gus, and Willow being stranded from their respective reality.

    Luz’s compassionate nature is her strongest endearing trait and weakness all at once because while she is caring to others, it comes at the expense of her self-esteem. She blows any mistake big or small out of massive proportions. Part of me can’t help but think Manny’s passing plays a role in this, too. Luz is devoted to the memory her father so much that she weighs these mistakes on the grounds of, “What would my father think, if he knew about my own actions?”, and it is leading her down self-destructive tendencies. This was likely going through her mind, besides Camila’s advice about learning from mistakes.

     Luz wasn’t using fiction as a way to escape her father’s passing. It was all about keeping the memory of his own unique personality alive. To show others applying your different touch to learning about anything can pay off. It makes Luz Noceda such a compelling and endearing protagonist, in spite of how rough she has had everything in childhood to the Boiling Isles conflict currently. Luz wishes to do right by Camila & Manny’s beliefs that it consumes her with overwhelming grief. You could feel so much of it in her reluctant resolve to stay behind forever. At this point, Luz has felt like everything she has wanted ended in failure. Wanted do well in school with grades at the top of her class.

Didn’t want Camila to worry about her well being all the time.

Wanted so desperately to become of apart of the Boiling Isles and share this world with her mother acknowledging it.

Wants to live a life with no regrets, like her father wanted.

     All of this resolve has come crashing down on Luz’s determination. She can’t live a life without regret because Luz is consumed by so much of it. The only way Luz believed she could atone is by robbing herself of any true happiness. This way the karmic value of what she had blamed herself for would even out. It’s absolutely heartbreaking seeing such an optimistic kid become utterly broken by these circumstances. Luz may hate Belos, but she in turn despises herself because of being fooled by his scummy tactics to achieve his goal. Throwing everything into chaotic terror when the Collector was freed finally by King.

     Luz & Camila’s development was easily one of my favorite parts from the whole special. Thanks To Them is an all around great start to this three part series finale in general, but their emotional development was a serious stand out. This was the kind of stuff I wanted to see more of in DuckTales 2017 between Della & Louie with their chemistry and am so happy to see the concept thoroughly explored here. Loved what was shown off and can’t wait to see the last two specials in 2023. Welcome back Owl House. It’s good to see you again.

do you have any thoughts for the gangs future proffesions? personally i cant shake off the image of some hexside students in 20 years being like omg its captain willow park who singlehandedly revived flyer derby and obliterated what was left of the emperors loyalists... ah, and her cringefail husband.

It's kinda hard to think too clearly about jobs in the Boiling Isles cuz the show never really goes too in depth about that sort of stuff. BUT I do have some headcanons!!

I believe very strongly in my heart that nothing would make Hunter happier than to be a teacher. He's obsessed with knowledge and studying and research and explaining things to people. But everytime he tries to rattle off about things he's interested in he's either told to shut up or he shuts himself up. Like let him loose in a hexside classroom, let him go completely off the rails yapping about wild magic, let him inspire weird nerd kids who are just as passionate and enthusiastic about this stuff as he was when he was sixteen. This would make him SO happy my god.

Willow would absolutely stick with flyer derby though I'm not certain if she would take it on as a full time career or just something she does in her downtime. After all, her Dads used to play and seemed to love it but didn't go on to do it professionally. Oooooh MAYBE she could be a flyer derby coach. At hexside. She can work at the same place as her cringefail husband!

I'm not entirely certain. I was also thinking of Willow going on to study new and innovative uses of plants in potions/healing and her working alongside a team of other witches in different fields who put their brains together to invent new spells and kick-start a magical renaissance or something like that idk.

Absolutely no doubt about Gus. He's gonna be an ambassador to the Human Realm!!! And like I KNOW this was a declaration he made when he was twelve and and ambitions definitely change over time. But this was the goal that attracted his palisman, his lifetime partner and best friend. That sort of thing feels very set in stone. I don't think Gus is budging on this. And you know what? He has the personality for it. Friendly, charismatic, a natural showman. If anybody is capable of wowing the Human Realm and stabilizing a comfortable civil relationship between both worlds, it would be Gus.

I think Luz should have a job that allows her to tell stories. Her imagination and creativity and passion for fiction have always been such strong aspects of her personality. She's shown to be a talented artist and writer so maybe she could write books/comics/cartoons etc. I feel like she originally used this stuff as a form of escapism and it made it difficult for her to distinguish fantasy from reality. BUT after all the maturing she's done in the Boiling Isles, she would absolutely be capable of weaving stories full of life experience, wisdom and compassion. Something that can connect to teenage weirdos like she used to be, but rather than it being something they can escape into, Luz's stories can be something that better helps them to cope and navigate through their real lives.

The only person I'm not so sure about is Amity. Like she's so ambitious and hardworking and organised that she could probably do anything she set her mind to. But what does she want? Originally she wanted to join the Emperor’s Coven but clearly not anymore. Her hair colour is a symbol of her passion for abomination magic so it's likely her profession will involve that. Maybe without Odalia around insisting on capitalising on everything he does, Alador can finally have the freedom to focus on the inventions that he's interested in. Maybe Amity can help. Or she and her dad can explore, experiment and push the limit of what abomination magic even is. Maybe they can change the game entirely.

This is just a silly thing I was thinking about.

Miraculous Ladybug has been the numero uno show that I have been obsessed with for a long time now, the one that actually inspired me to write any fanfic at all in the first place. It brought me back to my daydreaming and story writing back when I was in middle school when that's practically all I would do in my spare time, was write my original stories. I was hoping that writing fanfic would help spark some creativity to go back to writing my own original stories again (and it has! here and there).

Eventually I roped my boyfriend into watching ML with me (he's now my husband lol) and then when The Owl House first aired he started watching it and then got me to watch it with him. I think now... I might be a little more obsessed with it than he is... but he can definitely do a far better impression of Hooty than anyone I know, lmao.

AND THEN A SPORT IN A STORM!!! and I really didn't expect to get obsessed over the possibilities of Hunter and Willow, I think I just really missed Willow being a part of the group and stuff, but then HOLLOW MIND ;_; and it got me thinking about Zuko from ATLA and Adrien from ML... and just... is this... is this just a trope? I mean I am a complete sucker for it, I don't think I could care less if it's just a big trope!

I relate to Marinette on countless levels, just, big ol' ADHD brain with ALL of the creative ideas and always anxious about doing the right thing, that's me to a T. The LoveSquare is what kept me sucked in, obviously, but the backstory of Adrien.... OOF.

I'm a Zutara fan and I've seen some critiques of the Owl House, how it makes more sense to pair Luz with Hunter and I get it BUT!!! I think their relationship is actually more like Katara and Aang, like... even though Hunter is older than Luz, it seems like Luz just wants to adopt him as her little brother. You know? Like, I am of the opinion that Kataang never really made sense in the end.

Seeing Hunter find his own friends outside of meeting Luz I think was So Good because he needs to see more witches as GOOD. More Wild Witches as GOOD. He needs to see what is really going on.

but anyway that's just me rambling away. I am done now lol. I don't think I really had a point to this post other than finding it funny that I am becoming more obsessed with TOH than my husband was originally.

Luz’s Dad Theories

Since the episode “Yesterday’s Lie” aired, there has been some speculation about a very specific image that we saw. In the episode, we saw a framed picture of Luz, her mom and a man that we can safely assume is her dad, whose face unfortunately isn’t visible. There have been, from what I have seen, some theories about Luz’s dad. I actually support one of these, so I decided to make a post about what I personally think makes the most sense.

Some people theorize that his face not being visible means that he will be completely irrelevant in the story, thus why there wasn’t a need to see him. But I don’t like this idea. If the animators wanted to, they could have simply not drawn a picture that includes her dad. It could be just a framed picture of Camilla and Luz. I am sure it would still get across the same message of “the Noceda’s consist of Luz and Camilla and ONLY them”, without the animators having to draw a torso and a pair of legs.

Another theory is that Luz’s dad is a deadbeat or that, at least, Camila is divorced from him and he isn’t really present in Luz’s life. However, that makes the presence of this framed picture weird. It’s a family picture. They appear to be a small, happy family. If Luz’s dad isn’t part of the family anymore, why would Camilla keep a picture of all three of them being so happy? Why would Camilla want to keep around a reminder of what her family used to be? This is especially true if he abandoned them or if there was a nasty divorce. It would only serve to bring back painful memories to both Camila and Luz. So, to me at least, it doesn’t add up to have this framed picture if that’s what happened.

The other theory I see around, and the one I actually think makes sense, is that Luz’s dad was present in her life, but is now dead. This would explain why the picture is there, as a reminder of him. A lot of people have pictures of their late loved ones to keep a memory of them around. Not only that, the picture was in the kitchen of the house. It’s in a place where Camilla and Luz would be all the time, seeing it. So, while it would still be a picture that would bring back painful memories, it makes more sense to have a picture of him in that context.

But there’s another piece of evidence I have for this theory. The other day, I was looking up Dana’s Wikipedia page and I found something that inspired me to write this post.

So, as we all know, Dana has based Luz, in many aspects, on herself, like how they are both bisexual and from Connecticut. Also, there are a lot of things about the show/the universe that Dana has based on things that were influential to her, like the Pokemon franchise. But here’s the thing about Pokemon. It’s more than just a beloved franchise for Dana. According to Dana’s Wikipedia page, Dana’s father, Thomas, had given her the game Pokemon Red before he died, when Dana was 11. And, yes, this is obviously a sad occurrence and a terrible loss. But it got me wondering if maybe this is something Dana might want to use for the series, for Luz in particular.

So, basically, my main theory is that Dana will use her own experiences with losing her father for Luz’s character. And that we will find out that Luz’s dad died when she was younger.

And that led me down a rabbit hole of my own making of headcanon’s of what Luz’s relationship with her dad might have been like. I imagined that maybe Luz’s dad was also a huge nerd like her and he always spent time with her talking about books and movies and tv shows and all that jazz. That could also explain why Camilla feels a bit unfamiliar with Luz’s interests. She had her husband take care of this for a long time and now doesn’t really know how to navigate Luz’s hobbies. And just to add a tad bit more pain to everything, I had this idea that maybe Luz’s dad was the one that had gifted the Azura books and that’s one of the reasons they are so important to her; because it’s one of the few things connecting her to her father.

This vagabond bachelor-wannabe is here for a good time not a long time. Nixon can fall in and out of love in a single night. At his core he knows who he is and doesn’t need anyone to “save him”, so he’s just playing the most enjoyable version of this game, life.

Ronald Spiers - FOOL’S GOLD

On the surface, Spiers seems eager and reckless. But on a deeper level he invests himself completely in his companies, his missions, and eventually his wife. His fervent looting seems to be a desperate lure to keep his wife who eventually defaults back to her first husband.

Carwood Lipton - WHERE DO BROKEN HEARTS GO

Lipton is the first to discount himself. He is constantly striving to better and never realizes the impact he actually has on those around him. Lipton is the guy to sacrifice a love he underestimates for duty, for career, then immediately realize the mistake he made. He will spend the rest of his life making up for that.

Floyd Talbert - ALIVE

Floyd has this incredible likability that allows him to get away with what would be offensive if anyone else did it. He’s a huge flirt (and then some) and even resigns his position as 1st sergeant all while maintaining the love and admiration of all that know him. If this were high school, he’d be the kid who always kicked his feet up on his desk, “just chillin’”, and graduates salutatorian.

George Luz - STAND UP

“I would walk through the desert, I would walk down the aisle, I would swim all the oceans just to see you smile, Whatever it takes is fine”

Luz is nothing if not persistent. He’ll shoot his shot until he runs out of bullets. And for all of his comedic charm, he is hopefully devoted to his partner like he is devoted to living life for all of its joys and pleasures.

Joe Liebgott - STORY OF MY LIFE

He talks about finding a wife and having lots of little Liebgotts but there’s a sharp edge to Liebgotts heart that hurts him as much as it protects him. He wants to be open to love but he can’t seem to push past the walls he has up. His sharp tongue defends himself with cheap remarks and dark jokes.

Don Malarkey - HOME

Clearly he is just wrecked by the end of the war. However, we’re reminded of the happy-go-lucky kid who sat down to chat with an enemy soldier when he pops champagne in the Eagles Nest. This song is simply Malarkey; an acknowledgement of heartbreak with tentative hope for a simple, yet satisfying, love.

Joe Toye - LOVE YOU GOODBYE
