Breakfast, the first meal consumed before starting the day, was regarded by both Wittebane brothers as the most important.

There was never a breakfast food that the boys didn't enjoy eating, primarily because most of them could be eaten with jam or butter.

As the sky warmed up and shone with sunrise one morning, Philip and Caleb were in their beds, dreaming and sleeping peacefully.

Philip was dreaming about walking and talking breakfast foods with silly smiley faces and pencil-thin arms and legs.

He and the foods were riding horses and donkeys together.

Meanwhile, Caleb's dream consisted of him getting the chance to guzzle down a cup of rum for breakfast every morning like a strong and heroic grown-up.

Being kind and generous, the blonde chooses to share some of his liquor with his favorite woodland birds.

A brown eye suddenly opens as it scans the bedroom before shifting its attention to Philip.

As both of his eyes open, a small smile begins to spread on Caleb's face as he sees his brother sleeping so soundly.

Without making a single noise, the blonde slowly slips out of bed before quietly tiptoeing to the door.

Once he's outside of the room, he sends another gentle smile to Philip and silently shuts the door.

After an hour or so had passed, Philip's lids slowly opened.

The brunette slowly arose from his covers and sat up.

"Ah-hhaaa," Philip yawned sluggishly, extending his arms out in a stretch.

While gradually wiping the sleep from his eyes with his arm, his small nose was immediately greeted by a wonderful aroma wafting from downstairs.

The smell was a combination of batter and melted butter coming together and creating a delicious baby.

A small gasp left a sparkly-eyed Philip as he quickly jumped out of bed and rushed to the door.

He was eager to get to the dining room and dig into breakfast.

Caleb heard footsteps hurrying downstairs.

When the oldest spun around, he saw his baby brother standing at the kitchen entrance with the biggest smile on his face.

"Oh, good morning, Philip!" Caleb chuckled.

Walking over to the dining room table, the blonde transferred the delicious surprise he prepared for Philip onto a wooden plate on the table from the black cast iron skillet he was holding.

"I made you breakfast," he told the younger with a smile.

Philip zipped over to the table. "You made pancakes!" Philip cheered as he quickly took his seat.

"Yes, I did!" Caleb laughed, but his smile quickly became nervous.

"I apologize for the lumps that are in them."

"Huh?" Philip took note of the massive amount of bumpy clumps that were in the two pancakes on his plate.

"Oh..."

"I know," Caleb spoke quietly, looking down.

"If you don't like them, I can always--"

Philip dove face first into his plate and quickly ripped a spongy piece from one of his pancakes with his teeth.

This caught Caleb off guard.

After chewing, Philip swallowed, humming with delight.

"Caleb!" Philip exclaimed excitedly.

"These taste amazing! You're the bestest pancake maker in the whole world!"

In the whole world?

Caleb's face lit up when he heard those words.

"Really, Pip?"

Philip nodded and took another large bite out of his pancake without using the fork or knife in front of him.

Caleb chuckled bashfully.

"Thank you, Pip."

The blonde smiled softly.

"That's some very high praise," he whispered.

For Caleb, it was the highest honor to see Philip enjoy his lumpy cooking that was carefully prepared with lots of flour and love.

I've been hiding it under my desk more than 7 months for a reason, if you interested, there's an explanation under the cut

2022-2023 winter was an emotionally difficult time for me. So I created The Shadow House and found comfort and consolation in it. I was really sensitive about this au so I was afraid to show it off. And when The Finally was released it DIDN'T help

When the fandom gone crazy I thought HELL NAH, F*CK IT. I'VE HAD ENOUGH OF THIS SHIT. SHADOW HOUSE WILL STAY WITH ME BECAUSE IT'S TOO PERSONAL FOR ME AND IF SO-CALLED"FANS" START THROWING MUD AT IT, I WON'T GO THROUGH THIS

My apologies for the rush! This is an unfinished piece that I started in the beginning of the summer, when I was still getting accustomed to digital art (I was still learning about how to render and blend colors more gently). I got a little lazy, so forgive the crappy anatomy XD

This was inspired off of @frigidfries’s art, I immediately thought of how much Belos thinks of himself as a martyr in his own delusions . The stained glass window, depicting him as a deity and God in front of the entire Isles, is so hypocritical once the viewer can see his true intentions, which would repulse even a true monster.

(I remember listening to “Hell’s Comin’ with me” by Poor Man’s Poison on repeat while drawing this, that’s where I got the title-)

Philip Wittebane: The Deer Man. [The Deer Mansion AU]

Managed to finish this man's design xD Now that I look at him, looks like a weird mix between Howl and a Pirate... Oh well.

Anyways!! Philip would be in Eda's role in this AU. As so, he's locally known as "The Deer Man". He's a reserved and formal man, and has a Woodcrafting business. He specifically uses the portal door to get Wood from the human realm. When Collector fell into his mansion, the kid begged him to let him work with him in exchange of staying, and he reluctantly complied.

There is one interesting article about why Belos creates grimwalkers if he knows that they will betray him. I translated it so that you could read it.

The main traumatic event in Philip's life is the murder of Caleb. It was such a strong shock for Philip that he remembers it to this day and plays it over and over again. In principle, this is what some traumatized people do - they systematically repeat some terrible event. Some details may change (for example, now Philip the elder), but the main thing remains the same - betrayal and subsequent murder.  By betrayal, Belos can understand a vast layer of things, whether it's an escape, a relationship with a witch, an assassination attempt, an attempt to thwart his plans, joining the side of witches or abandoning the side of witch hunters. Moreover, Philip is not just waiting for betrayal, he is doing everything to be betrayed.

He opens Hunter's eyes too abruptly and unexpectedly to the truth, which completely contradicts his world picture, and thus causes dissonance. Hunter was scared, his Uncle’s motives have not been explained to him in an accessible language, he has not been prepared in advance. Hunter was purposefully pushed into the path of betrayal. Belos revealed the truth in this way, not because he is Big Evil Guy or so naive that he did not even think that Hunter might not take his side (after killing 50 traitor grimwalkers, yeah, yeah), but because he wanted to stroke his mental trauma. To replay the events of the past in a new wrapper, let's say. The reason is not hate, hostility or bad temper. The reason is the desire to feel the strongest pain of a deep trauma, which at the same time gives the greatest relief. Because it is clear and familiar. Everything is as it should be. The author of article was thinking about a variant of events in which Hunter does not escape to Hexside after leaving Phillip's mindscape, but returns to his uncle. One of the possible developments may be the murder of Hunter, because "how is it that he did not betray and did not stroke the mental trauma." And this can become another, already newer and unexpected trauma — the murder of someone who did not betray and remained faithful to the end.

I just remembered the "Please. I don't want to see another human life destroyed by this place” line, and honestly did they have scenes of Luz starting to wonder if Belos' had a point and going into the island did destroy her life? If not, they should have had.

No, they did not have Luz ever wonder how the isles affected Belos--except in the storyboards:

Luz still calls him out for trying to destroy the isles and being a hypocrite but there's still that moment of empathy in which she asks point blank: "What do you think they DID to you?!" She briefly contemplates just why someone would go so far to destroy an entire population and what his mindset might be. Unfortunately, this was not included in the final version and Belos' expression is blank instead of pleading.

Then there's this storyboard from For the Future in which Luz, Eda, and King explain to the Collector how people like Amity and Lilith became their friends:

Luz's line about "people being complicated" is in the episode but the entire exchange between her and the Collector is not even though it opens up a lot of interesting ideas and themes. Without it though, the show becomes straight up hypocritical when it states that people are complicated but reduces its villains to generic archetypes and its hero characters as being simply misguided or victims of the villains.

And no, this doesn't mean that the show should have excused Belos' actions or even forgiven him; but they could have and should have acknowledged the complexity of his character by keeping this nuance in and how the characters react to it. By doing so, the message of "people are complicated" becomes clear and strengthens the other characters as well. Luz gets to self-reflect on how she sees other people and learn that even the worst people among us are incredibly complex and have driving forces that are uncomfortably close to our own, thus making it much harder to demonize them. The Collector--instead of being a Giant Star Baby--keeps both his childlike bluntness and keen observational skills that he had in season 2, thus fleshing out the character instead of devolving him.

Regrettably, that nuance is absent from the show and we have a rather black-and-white narrative about Good vs. Evil; people are only ever really "bad" if someone tricked them or if there was a misunderstanding and all the Real Bad People are just selfish jerks who are power hungry and controlling.

This is not compelling storytelling; this is a tale as old as time. And the worst part is that there was a great story in The Owl House but it was left in the rough drafts.
