This is what a community looks like.

See how in 2023 almost all of the reblogs come from the OP, from their few hours/days in the tag search. Meanwhile in 2014 the % of reblogs from OP is insignificant, because most of the reblogs come from the reblogs within the fandom, within the micro-communities formed there. You didn't need to rely on tags, or search, or being featured. Because the community took care of you, made sure to pass the work between themselves and onto their blog and exposed their followers to it. It kept works alive for years.

It's not JUST the reblog/like ratio that causing this issue, it's the type of interaction people have. They're content with scrolling and liking the search engine, instead of actually having a reblogging relationship with other blogs in their community.

Anyways, if you want to see more content you like, the only true way to make it happen is to reblog it. Likes do not forward content in no way but making OP feel nice. Reblogs on the other hand make content eternal. They make it relevant, they make it exist outside of a fickle tumblr search that hardly works on the best of days.

If you want more of something, reblog it.

If you're a reader or even a creator in general looking at this right now, please don't delete your work. It breaks my heart to see yall deactivate. I don't care if feel like you don't get enough notes or if it feels too much to keep posting right now and you need a break, your work does means something to someone more than you know. And don't underestimate the quality of your content, people are watching, and I've seen cases of scammers posting the content of deactivated accounts up here as their own on Instagram. There are even people who shamelessly steal your work when you're active, your form of expression is valuable, it's beautiful and impactful because it's your own! Be proud of it, don't ever delete it!

i envy and applaud people who are still writing. who haven't been knocked down by their mind, the unfair balance content creators experience when it comes to likes vs reblogs, lack of interaction(s), bombarded with rude anons, etc. people who have so much motivation for creating stories. people who lose that spark but still chip away at finding it again. people who don't let others or themselves affect their love of writing, of sharing, of creating. it really isn't easy finding that spark again, so i'm proud of anyone who finds it again no matter how long it's been.

📢 PSA on COD gif thief & edit reposter

just a heads up that the user @/staytrueblue has been caught stealing and reposting gif sets from call of duty gif and graphic makers. she has blocked people who have called her out on it. she excused her behavior by lying and saying she is "new to tumblr" — when other users have vetted she has been on this site since at least 2022.

examples and proof are below the cut.

when this individual was called out, they gave a half-assed apology and still seem convinced/entitled that they could repost entire gifsets with credit (also see below cut). they then blocked the original gifmaker and then began to make passive aggressive, snide comments toward those creators in their future posts.

this is why i encourage people to reblog from original gifmakers and graphic artists—not just liking posts—in order to support them. it's not fair that these plagiarists gather clout, followers, and interactions from work made by other people.

I know that most Artists work very hard to make a perfect creative work to their own eyes and than when ready, willing to let it go public because they're proud of their accomplishment. And when those creative works are not respected, it is simply like being stabed for Owners.

It's important to respect Copyright Law by obtaining permission or a license when using someone else's creative work, giving the proper attribution.

So that is why sometimes I'm not reacting to some publications and in worst case scenario, I must unfollow or even block some accounts. I cannot afford to jeopardize my account. It is particularly important to encourage innovation and protect the rights of Creators of any kind of works.

To me Ownership and Copyright Law = respect for everyone; anywhere around the World.

I want to bring a bit more attention to this:

I mean this 100%. If you are an Indigenous person who wants to create content for Youtube, make video essays, etc, message me with your questions and if I cannot help you personally, I will point you in the direction of colleagues who can. I want to see more Indigenous content creators. I want to see people who were too shy or nervous or not confident enough to make their own content take a chance, find their courage, and at the very least treat this as a hobby. Your perspective is needed and valued more than ever. Speak your truth and speak from the heart.

Hate, Hostility & Harassment

I’m a member of the support team on Sims After Dark. I knew that the infant patch would be a doozie--and it was! What I was not prepared for was the sheer level of hate, hostility & harassment that we (support team members) would face.

People seemed to have lost any sense of common decency, humility, respect, or patience. It’s quite embarrassing that we had to release MORE THAN ONE server announcement on how to behave. It has really blown my mind that people were behaving the way they were to people who VOLUNTEER their time to HELP. I am not paid by EA nor am I affiliated with EA--I just really like helping other simmers play their game with mods & cc. There have also been several modders & content creators who have been relentlessly harassed on when they were going to update their mods/cc. WE DO NOT OWE YOU ANYTHING.

Given all of this, Sims After Dark has gone dark until March 21st. Hopefully everyone will take this time to re-evaluate how they speak to people online. I know that I for one will be taking time away and actually getting to play the game for the first time since the new content dropped.

Finally, I’ve attached some of the responses that I personally received IN PUBLIC CHANNELS. I was also personally harassed by a group of people who joined the server just to say stupid shit to me. This does not include responses that other support team members have received nor does it include the sheer volume of people saying things like: “When will x mod be updated?” “Is anyone going to help me?” or spamming the support channels. I hope these pictures help you all fully understand how we’ve been talked to the past couple of days. I’ve also blocked out the names & profile pictures of these people because I’m not a shit head and the intention behind this post is to give just a peek into what I’ve been experiencing.
