Damian, handing Bruce a piece of paper with a very neat calendar on it: father, I will be taking a step back from my participation in our nightly patrols. I have carefully considered factors such as, but not limited to, school tests, most likely days for breakouts and when other people will be available. Here is my schedule.

Bruce: any particular reason you are stepping back from Robin?

Damian: I have reached an acceptable age and am by far mature enough, so I will be participating in Ramadan this year, father. Afterwards I will pick my duties up as normal, but with changed sleeping and eating patterns, this is the most logical step for now.

Bruce, who grew up with a jewish mother and christian father who were intent to raise him on some weird mix of the two, then a second father who was atheist, proceeded to lose his entire way in any form of religion due to losing himself in his teen years, took in Jewish boy, then a catholic one with religious trauma, then an atheist one who had no idea how to even approach the idea of religion, followed up by a pagan girl and already making seven different mental lists of things he will need to research, how to add aspects of Islam into their weird family holidays and trying desperately to show his support for his son: ....hnn

Help My Family Survive and Find Safety in Gaza

Dear friends and merciful people

Imagine losing everything that is dear to you in one day. This is the harsh reality that my family is facing in Gaza. I am is Wael Alserr, and I communicate with you with a heart full of pain and a desperate call for help.

On July 28, 2024, my world crashed when my wife and daughter were tragically killed during an attack on the tent displaced in the safe areas of Muwasi Khan Yunis, as the Israeli occupation claims. Our family of seven has been destroyed - my wife , my only daughter and four son. Now, we are only five people, struggling to survive under horrific conditions.

Our home has been completely demolished and homeless. In addition, my father has the only source of income that supports us, as we have been displaced several times, and every transition strips us of stability and hope. One day the walls were safe, leaving the survivors' family in a temporary tent, holding on to hope amid their broken dreams.

We desperately need your support to survive and eventually evacuate from Gaza. Your donations will provide basic supplies, help us secure safer living conditions, and help evacuate efforts. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a big difference in our battle for survival.

I love that Damian is named Damian. Let me explain why.

The name Damian comes from the Greek, δαμάζω (damazo), which means "to tame, to conquer, to vanquish, to master, to overcome, to dominate", but can also mean "the untamable". Already, this is great. Damian is the heir of the League of Assassins and the Bat, he is meant to conquer all, to master everything, to dominate above all. He is meant to be untamable.

But also, the word "damazo" comes from Damia, one of the names of the goddess Cybele, a goddess that is associated with wild nature or viewed as Mother Nature. And the Al Ghul are all about nature.

Finally, "Damian", and its other forms, is a name that has become associated with the word "demon". I think this is probably why he was named this, because he is the grandson of the Demon's Head, and Damian = demon. Well, about the word "demon": it comes from the Greek δαίμων, daímôn, which is a term associated with some divinities. These divinities aren't evils, they are mostly (from the ones I have encountered being called demons) associated with the afterlife or darkness, but they aren't evil. The Furies, goddesses of vengeance and justice that go after guilty folks to punish them before their death, are called "demons" sometimes. Thanatos, god of death, is called "demon" sometimes. The negative connotation comes from the Abrahamic faiths who villainized aspects of the polytheist beliefs, so their believers would drop them (in polytheist practices, every god exists, others just use a different name or view them a different way, which is fine because they are gods, and you cannot as a mortal define. Which means that polytheist cultures don't villainize other gods they don't know or don't pray to, you can join in the celebrations without renouncing to the gods you honor. Monotheism cannot have you do that.) Hell is the example of that. Hell was simply the realm of the dead, but the Abrahamic faiths (Christianity is the guilty one here) painted it as the "bad realm of the dead" (the division of the afterlife was done centuries after Christianity was created and so the Church could hold more controls over its believers). Another one is Lilith, who was a Mesopotamian goddess also referred to as a demon, so what did the Abrahamic faiths did? They made her a creature of evil. All of this talk because Ra's Al Ghul, when he named himself that, did so to criticize religions. It was all about how demons, evil spirits and creatures are something created by religious authorities so they can target and harm people they don't like, and could harm their power. So, to finish, it makes little to no sense in my opinion for Damian to be displeased with being named or associated with demons. Because the ideology that demons are evil is associated with Abrahamic faiths, and that's not what the Al Ghul believe, they cannot have taught him that. What I'm saying is that when you write any of the Al Ghul associating demons with evil, you are looking at their family from the pov of a culture who depends heavily on an Abrahamic faith, and not from their own culture and ideologies, which are that all this religion stuff is bs. They take pride in being associated with demons, not because demons are evil entities harming humankind, but because demons are something that the authority in place hates.

I know I'm a sonic franchise fan blog, but I cannot sit idle while I watch the freedoms of myself and my fellow Americans spin the drain. I know it will be exhausting, but I've lived through this once before as an angry teenager.

Adventures in Librarian-ing

Me: Today we're gonna read a story about Eid, since our Muslim friends will be celebrating it soon.

Grade 2: *gasps and raises their hand excitedly* I'm Muslim!

Me: That's right! And Eid's just around the corner, isn't it? (*Grade 2 nods emphatically*)

Grade 2: Can I take the Eid book as one of my books? I want it because I'm Muslim.

Me: Sure, here you go!

Me: I do need to get more, but I think I have a couple, let's check.

Along with the Eid book they went home with a Muslim retelling of Cinderella (Cinderella: An Islamic Tale) and a book called One Sun and Countless Stars: A Muslim Counting Book. :)

Atheism — He has expressed distaste for religion and faith in some media, including animated movies, and the League of Assassins’ cultish loyalty to Ra’s does not leave a lot of room for belief in a higher power.

Agnosticism — Bruce sometimes seems to be agnostic, and Damian could have picked that up from him. He has also been raised with a variety of cultural influences, which could result in him having a general belief in religion but no specific one.

Christianity — Bruce’s father was Christian, and I think Damian has met Santa Claus. He also lives in a predominantly Christian country now, and Arab Christians exist so he could be Christian on his mother’s side as well. Alfred is definitely Christian, and Dick is sometimes implied to be Christian, so those influences are present in his current life.

Jewish — Damian’s father’s mother was Jewish, and at least somewhat practicing. Although Damian wouldn’t be considered Jewish halachically by that alone, if Bruce raises him with Jewish traditions, some sects of Judaism (reform and I believe reconstructionist) would consider him Jewish. Additionally, Arab Jews also exist—he could be Mizrahi on his mother’s side.

Muslim — Damian is Arab on his mother’s side, and while not all Arabs are Muslim, many are. He also spent a lot of time in regions with predominantly Muslim populations, making this the most likely religion for him to have early exposure to.

Buddhist — Damian is Chinese on his mother’s side as well, and Buddhism is one of the most common religions in China.

Taoist or Chinese Folk Religion — Damian is Chinese on his mother’s side, and Taoism and Chinese folk religions are also common in China.

Hinduism — It’s just a very popular world religion. Also, Nanda Parbat is based on Nanga Parbat, which is in a primarily Muslim country but very close to India.

Greek Paganism — Various Ancient Greek religious things are genuine facts in the DC universe, including Greek gods. If Damian is going based off of evidence, he might end up here.

i hate the fact the term karen went from describing a bitchy entitled customer to basically the modern day equivalent of calling a woman a harpy (misogynistic as fuck) and that people use the term on people out in public who are at the end of their rope emotionally from stress or a shitty day. I get it just because your having a rough time doesn't mean you get to be a dick but sometimes I think people are seriously lacking in empathy and I get it a lot shit the customer might be dealing with isn't your responsibility but like if a customer is struggling with something simple maybe don't be a dick? Just a thought.

I see where people are coming from when they say "they won't teach about x subject yet they'll reach religion?" or "they shouldn't be talking about religion in schools" but it still kinda misses the point. The problem isn't that they're teaching about religion in schools at all. the issue is that they only teach about one religion (Christianity) and they talk about it as if it's the only religion or the only good religion, and depending on which school you go to they may force those who aren't Christian to partake in Christian activities. The solution isn't to stop talking about religion in schools. The solution is to talk about all religions, to talk about athiesm and agnosticism, to talk about religious trauma, to talk about the history of religion, to talk about cults, to talk about bigotry that some religious groups (especially jews and muslims) face and to give *all* religious people a choice to practice.

I don't want schools to stop teaching about religion. I want schools to stop telling kids that there's only one religion to follow, I want schools to teach about all religions, all beliefs, and to allow non-christians to have to freedom to practice their own and to not force them to partake in christian practices.
