Non binary-ish, and Maverique-ish
Non binary-ish - A term for for when someone's close to but not quite non binary. This can be for a variety of reasons, including being heavily aligned with a binary gender, having fluid gender and/or multiple gender and not viewing all of them as non binary, not identifying with typical understandings of what non binary means, having a "non traditional" relationship with non binaryness do to cultural reasons, questioning one's gender, any other experiences of near but not exact non binaryness and/or non binaryness with additional complexities to it.
Maverique-ish - A term for for when someone's close to but not quite maverique. This can be for a variety of reasons, including being demimaverique, having fluid gender and/or multiple gender that one views as inseparable from each other and maverique is a prominent one, questioning one's gender, any other experiences of near but not exact maverique and/or maverique with additional complexities to it.
Agender-ish, and Neutrois-ish, and Androgyne-ish
All have similar definitions to maverique-ish
Multigender-ish, and Bigender-ish, and Genderfluid-ish
Multigender-ish - A term for for when someone's close to but not quite multigender. This can be for a variety of reasons, including being almost entirely one gender but partly being others, having multiple partial genders, having fluid or flux gender that is experience as both multiple and one gender, questioning one's gender, any other experiences of near but not exactly that of being multigender and/or multigender with additional complexities to it.
Bigender-ish - A term for for when someone's close to but not quite bigender. This can be for a variety of reasons, including being almost entirely one gender but partly being another one, having multiple partial genders to add up to being close to but not quite two, having fluid or flux gender that is experience as both two and one gender, questioning one's gender, any other experiences of near but not exactly that of being bigender and/or bigender with additional complexities to it.
Genderfluid-ish - A term for for when someone's close to but not quite genderfluid. This can be for a variety of reasons, including one having the fluidity of one's gender(s) be very slow so it's often felt as static, having both fluid and static genders, one being unsure if their gender is fluid or flux, questioning one's gender, any other experiences of near but not exact non genderfluidity and/or non genderfluidity with additional complexities to it.

my gender identity is really weird and complicated for me and I kinda hate that I still don’t have a definitive idea of it.
i can’t find myself fully identifying with any of the more bigger well known gender identities.
I know for a fact I’m not cis, but I also doubt that I’m trans, I’ve never experienced gender dysphoria other than simple discomfort over some gendered labels and titles I’ve been referred by, but I also don’t think nonbinary as a label fits me, but I also can’t see myself as being genderfluid nor multigender but I also doubt that I’m gender nonconforming.
“Ok, then just say you don’t wanna label yourself?”
maybe that’s an easy answer for some people but for me personally I want to have that tiny little box of other people to fit in with. And the fact I’m having such a hard time finding that box makes me feel pathetic.
irl, most people just perceive me as being cis and use the pronouns that were assigned to me at birth. I’m terrified of telling people how I actually feel and it’s just easier to keep my mouth shut about it. Heck most people irl don’t even know I’m aromantic and I’m sure they’d have a field day if they found out about that.
And thankfully not saying anything about my gender identity is easier for me (for me PERSONALLY not everyone, please do not apply my own personal experiences to others) because I’m just apathetic to it. But I know that I’m not totally happy being perceived that way because the one time one person offhandedly referred to me as with they/them pronouns irl, I felt euphoric on the inside.
I just don’t have a clear idea of what I even want to identify as and it just makes me feel shitty all around

(I do have a pin that’s the original flag. But that’s because that’s the one they had at my local pride and I was just very excited to see bigender at all lmao)
Idc about flag creator drama, it’s essentially just a pretty color palette and most people have no idea about the creator of most flags anyway, but I do find it annoying when people use the like. ORIGINAL bigender flag.
The middle one is sooo much better aesthetically and basically the same in terms of symbolism. I hate that desaturated ass purple.
#I’m only kinda bigender anyway.. I use the flag cuz I like it but nailing down how many genders I got in here is tricky#it’s like. two ish. 2+. kinda like how ppl use bisexual I guess?#and I hate the multigender flag. sorry. dark blue and orange is my least favorite color palette#Icarus is talking

okay half thought out post time ! i struggle with words sometimes so i hope this makes sense
okay look. i know what you guys are trying to do when you say “if you’re not trans, you’re cis.” you’re referring to all those shitty people who think cis is a slur for some reason or “i’m not cis, i’m a REAL WOMAN” and that shit. and the intent is right obviously ! there’s nothing wrong with the word cisgender, and the only reason assholes say that it’s a slur is because they use the word trans as a slur.
but here’s the thing: you’re wrong.
“if you’re not trans, you’re cis” does nothing but reinvent a binary: the binary of trans/cis. and that’s not helpful. there are gender-fluid folks who might say “well, i’m a girl today so i’m trans, but yesterday i was a boy, so cis.” i’ve met multiple people who say things like “yeah i’m cis-ish, but still funky in the gender” or “technically my identity falls under the trans umbrella, but i don’t use the label trans. i’m not cis though.”
like, binaries are good for no one. and there’s a VAST difference between someone saying “i’m multigender and don’t feel like either of those labels define me accurately” and someone else saying “i’m not CIS! how dare you call me a CISGENDER ! i am a NATURAL REAL MALE !” it’s all about whether it’s in good faith or not.
so just like, be aware that when you say that stuff, it can be weird or isolating or uncomfortable who folks who don’t think either of those labels work for them, or don’t use labels at all, or who exist somewhere in between cis and trans, or whose genders fluctuate from day to know. rambling thoughts over - have a good day!
this is not a discourse post. TERFS and transphobes are not allowed to debate me about the validity of trans identity, you will be blocked.

So, today I was in Times Square and saw a Microsoft ad that really prominently featured the aro flag. I like to pretend I'm not someone to freak out over seeing my own flag anymore, but like, the idea that aromanticism is important enough for Microsoft to show it in Times Square? Yeah. That blew me away. So I looked up the full ad (it was a much smaller variant in Times Square) and. Woah. Someone at Microsoft knows their queer microlabels. I never expected to see the neurogender flag in the marketing for an evil company?
Like. Pangender and polygender. Androromantic and gynoromantic. Transneutral. Graygender. Maverique. Neutrois. Unlabeled. Ambiamorous. Diamoric. Pomosexual. Intergender. Xenogender. Aporagender. Egogender. Hijira. None of these are identities I'd expect to see used by goddamn Microsoft.
There is exactly one Microsoft employee who I worship and who isn't getting paid enough.
Full labelling and breakdown of flags below, courtesy of @the-crystalized-cosmos. Only after they did all the work of figuring out all the flags and labeling them did I learn that microsoft also did that themselves here. And that version is slightly bigger, revealing flags that aren't in this version: transfeminine, aroflux, gender neutral, and multigender.
I swear I'm not a Microsoft shill. Fuck Microsoft. But like, this is I think the best corporate pride art I've ever seen, and anything with this many flags in it is guaranteed to make me excited. I just really, really, really like flags.
[Image ID: Two versions of a collage of pride flags in swirls, loops, and rings. The top is the original image, while the bottom has the names of the flags written on it. The flags included are:
Left (ish):
Polyromantic, Ambiamorous, Asexual, Abrosexual, Waria, Neutrois, Aromantic, Pansexual, Gynosexual, Intergender, Maveriquw, Androromantic, Genderqueer, Hijra, Egogender, Multigender, Diamoric, Demisexual, Omniromantic
Middle (ish):
Omnisexual, Genderfluid, Polygender, Queerhet, Ally, Inclusive Rainbow/Pride, Trans, more Genderqueer, Demigender, Bisexual, Lesbian, Multisexual/Mspec, Aspec, Graysexual, More Abro (unnamed in picture, whoops), Aspec, Demifluid, Demigirl, Skoliosexual, Fraysexual, Ceterosexual, Androsexual, Abroromantic, Transmasc, Xenogender, Demiromantic, Gay Man/Turian/Veldian, Transneutral, Panromantic

Queer-ish, and Variant-ish
To match the Conformant-ish flags.(because my mind gets evil if things aren't in matching sets)
These exist as umbrella terms for the other term, as someone is already ""fully"" queer by identifying with any of the specific terms.
Please note these are meant to be self description terms, and should not be used on people who do not self identify with them. And nobody has to use these term, even if they exactly match an example used on the posts.
2 (homo-ish), 3 (Mspec-ish), 4 (trans-ish) , 5 (non-binary-ish and multigender-ish), 6 (aspec-ish).
Genderqueer-ish, and Polyamorous-ish
A term for for when someone's close to but not quite genderqueer. The label genderqueer includes many different experiences, so this label's definition would be completely up to a person using it.
A term for for when someone's close to but not quite polyamorous. This can be for a variety of reasons, including being polyflexible, being polyamorous in most types relationships but not all, questioning one's amory and be pretty sure you're polyamorous but not certain, any other experiences of near but not exactly polyamorous and/or polyamorous with additional complexities to it.

4 new-ish shadow- terms
[pt: 4 new-ish shadow- terms end pt]
We've been using these for ourselves for a few weeks, but never formally made coining posts for them.
Introducing:
Shadowgai!
Shadowgai, also called shadowunstrayt, is an orientation where one experiences gay attraction in a uniquely non-binary way. However, while one technically is non-binary, one does not identify as non-binary for any reason.
This flag is inspired by Tumblr user opalescentorbisian's gai flag.
[alt text: a rectangular flag with six equal-width horizontal stripes—from top to bottom, the stripe colors are black, periwinkle blue, bright mint green, sandy yellow, white, and dark lilac end alt text]
Shadowstrayt!
Shadowstrayt, also called shadowgain’t, is an orientation where one experiences straight attraction in a uniquely non-binary way. However, while one technically is non-binary, one does not identify as non-binary for any reason.
This flag is inspired by Tumblr user nblw-nonsense's strayt flag.
[alt text: a rectangular flag with six equal-width horizontal stripes—from top to bottom, the stripe colors are black, dark-ish cerulean blue, medium blue-violet, pinkish-purple, white, and bordeaux red end alt text]
Shadowgaistrayt!
Shadowgaistrayt is an orientation where one experiences both gay and straight attraction in a uniquely non-binary way. This can be simultaneous or not. However, while one technically is non-binary, one does not identify as non-binary for any reason. This flag is inspired by (what we think is) Tumblr user a1ly's gai-strayt flag. Unfortunately, that flag's coining post no longer exists. It was not archived.
[alt text: a rectangular flag with six equal-width horizontal stripes—from top to bottom, the stripe colors are black, solid plum, mountbatten pink, daffodil yellow, white, and sunglow yellow end alt text]
Shadowsgait!
Shadowsgait is an orientation where one simultaneously experiences both gay and straight attraction in a uniquely non-binary way. However, while one technically is non-binary, one does not identify as non-binary for any reason.
This flag inspired by Tumblr user Beyond-MOGAI-Pride-Flags's sgait flag.
[alt text: a rectangular flag with six equal-width horizontal stripes—from top to bottom, the stripe colors are black, indigo blue, periwinkle blue, candle flame yellow, white, and brimstone yellow end alt text]
Possible reasons why someone might use these terms:
being multigender, where one or more of the genders one experiences is/are binary
being genderfluid, genderflux, or genderfluix and sometimes being a binary gender
one’s gender is almost binary to the point where one does not feel non-binary
one feels dysphoric about being called non-binary
having a binary gender, but having a non-binary gender alignment (e.g. being male and xingender)
being mid-binary
being cassgender or gender apathetic
feeling partially or fully disconnected from one’s gender
fluid/fluctuating label preferences
(this is a non-exhaustive list)

Multigender Survey Results Dec 2023: Anything else relevant
Participants were asked "Share anything else about your multigender identity that you find relevant" and had the option to respond with long answer text. Some notable responses include:
As a m+f bigender person who uses he/she pronouns, I sometimes feel like the "he" refers to my female side, and the "she" refers to my male side
I am no longer religious/Christian, but the expression “God is Change” resonates deeply with me and my approach to gender as experience. I accept that my gender (holistically) is an amalgamation, something that breathes new life into itself repeatedly and often unexpectedly, sustained by its own willingness to grow past its bounds and taste richness anew. Teaching is part of my work, and as such I consider myself an eternal student: gender is just one avenue for discovery and learning for me.
I feel so boring but it is what it is, name wise I use one (completely feminine) with group A and one (completely masculine) with group B and hope and pray that they never interact
I identified as a 'tomboy' (gender wise) as a child and transmasc as a teenager. As an adult part of my being multigender is honouring these past versions of myself and acknowledging that who I was is an important part of who I am today.
I like to describe my gender like this: imagine there’s a house on a street. the house represents being a boy/male, and being *in* the house means you’re binary male. The road represents a neutral, non-male/female gender. My gender is like the driveway — both part of the road *and* the house
i think this is relevant-ish, but the way i experience gender kind of feels like. there's a man and a woman in my head at all times, not in a system way so much as a (this is very obviously stupid but i can't find another comparison to articulate it) inside out way. they're both always there, and they're both separate, but at the same time, they come together to make the same person, me! nonbinary is a label i understand and identify with, mostly to simplify the matter for others, but in reality, it kind of feels like a... superbinary of sorts. i'm 100% a man, and 100% a woman, but because the binary only "allows" you to choose one, nonbinary is technically correct, isn't it?
I'm multigender in the "one gender that fits into several categories" way than being multigender in a "has multiple genders" way
My gender is the intersection of butch dyke and trans man. I'm questioning things right now, but I'm somewhere in that region, with a foot in both at once. I've always been drawn to butchness and sapphicism as well as transmasculinity. I think most of my journey to understand my gender has been a balancing act between identifying as enough of a guy to feel comfortable in my skin but non-binary enough to not have to abandon my identity with butchness. Recently I've adopted the label multigender, and it's helped a lot. I'm only even a little bit a girl if I can be a boy first and foremost, and I could be just a boy or just a dyke but I would have to kill part of myself to do so. I'm trying to find a way to exist in my gender without blood on my hands. I think I'm getting there. It's hard but I'm getting there.
It is complicated but I love it
Yay I love multi gender people we are so cool. <3
A number of participants also referenced being autistic and how that has influenced their multigender identity, so it is possible that autism may be included as a question on the next survey.
#'feminine name with group a and masculine name with group b and pray they never interact' person you are just like me fr#also shoutout to the inside out person i didn't think that was stupid at all. i liked it#survey results december 2023#multigender

Being nonbinary and off multigender but like multigender ish (if you know what offgender is) is sick like I'm a nonbinary lesbian, I'm a lesboy, I'm a he/him lesbian, straight in like the %12 straight I guess, a boyfriend, a girlfriend, a partner. A daughter, son, someone's child. A sister, brother, sibling. When I'm older I could be a wife, husband. Like I'm so sick dude.

Monomultigender / Multimonogender
One who is both Monogender and Multigender, for any reason. A combination term/identity.
They may be Genderfluid/Genderflexible, Genderflux (with one of their genders fluctuating out, and then fluctuating back in again), Abrogender, or they may simply feel a connection to both labels. These are just some examples!
The flag was made by combining the Monogender flags (by thesagasaurus and Reddit user Agreeable-Finish-376) with the Multigender flag (creator unknown).
I made this because I couldn't find an exact term or flag for it (beyond one which was similar-ish but exclusive to Genderfluid individuals only), but if it exists and I missed it you're free to consider these alternate terms/an alternate flag.
This is very similar to Bitri/Tribigender and I'd like to make more "contradictory" gender math combinations like this! So if you have any you'd like to see my rqs are open!

Ok, so, uh, my gender is a bit complicated right? And the best label I found to describe it is multigender.
Because it is... uhh, if I was to give a full answer when people ask me, it would be something like "genderfluid ish boy nonbinary kinda" and when in polls or surveys and I have to pick between "nonbinary" "man" and "woman" i usually pick "man" because somehow it feels more accurate than nonbinary? Even if nb is also true.
But my favorite to answer "what gender are you?" Is multigender.
It sounds so good and our flag is so pretty and its true in like 3 different ways and it's sucu a wide term and it's just perfect. I'm so happy.

2023 Fallout OC Census- Results
At long last, it's here! This time, we had 593 usable responses.
(There are a few categories I haven't analysed just yet, which is mostly because I have Ideas for how to display that data. Please stand by…)
Getting right into the numbers...
Game
Fallout (original): 18 Fallout 2: 8 Fallout 3: 59 Fallout New Vegas: 214 Fallout 4: 160 Fallout 76: 28 Fallout Tactics: 2 Van Buren: 13 A spin-off, AU or mod: 14 A TTRPG campaign: 13 Multiple of the above: 41 None, just the Fallout universe: 22
Are they the in-game protagonist?
Yes: 328 No: 203 It's complicated: 61
Species
Unmutated human: 444 Ghoul: 51 Synth: 41 Ghoul-ish: 13 Other mutant: 9 Supernatural/spiritual being: 7 Robot (non-humanoid): 7 Super Mutant: 6 Cyborg/android: 5 Unknown/it's complicated: 2 Other: 7
Definitions of a few categories, just to clarify exactly what's in there:
Ghoul-ish: Refers to all characters who are partially ghoulified, ghoulify during their storylines, and unique characters with primarily ghoul-like traits
Other mutant: Refers to all characters who are specified to have unique mutations from any cause, unless they better fit into the ghoul-ish category. This is a very diverse umbrella category, and in past surveys has included everything from characters specified to have 76-style mutations that basically function as perks, to a character similar in form and nature to the Master
Gender
Cis woman/girl: 217 Cis man/boy: 154 Trans man/boy: 76 Nonbinary: 47 Trans woman/girl: 27 Agender: 16 Genderfluid: 7 Genderqueer: 6 Man/boy, unknown or varies if cis or trans: 5 Transfeminine: 3 Bigender: 3 Demigirl: 3 Woman/girl, unknown or varies if cis or trans: 4 Butch: 2 Demigender: 2 Questioning: 2 Intersex: 2 Lesbian: 2 Māhū: 1 Multigender: 1 Queer: 1 Transmasculine: 1 Unlabeled: 1
Bonus answers I enjoyed: [redacted], a man in a certain sense of the word, cat, doesn't care for this, eh, God knows, a link to the Wikipedia page for Stone Butch Blues, it's complicated, man of questionable gender, no gender left beef, lost their gender in the war, people assume she's a woman but she doesn't really care, whatever's funniest, yeah
Where are they from?
In previous OC survey location maps, I've only included a single data point for each character, regardless of how many places they may have connections to. However, this time I've decided to include each place that a character has lived as one data point.
The list of assumptions I use when creating these maps:
Arroyo = Oregon
Mojave Wasteland = Nevada if no more specific locations provided
Capital Wasteland = DC if no more specific locations provided
Vault 101 = DC (I feel like this one isn't geographically accurate, but it's to fit in with the above assumption)
Washington unqualified = Washington state, not DC (even for Fallout 3 characters, especially since I know of a Fallout 3 character who is intended to be from Washington state)
Appalachia = West Virginia unless otherwise specified
NCR = California
Legion territory with no other information given = Arizona (this feels like the biggest generalisation of all to me. Maybe take the Arizona count with a pinch of salt?)
'Near X place' = in the same state as X place
I go by the current fifty US states. No splitting of California or considering Canada to be part of the US
Locations that could not be easily defined or placed in a specific state/country (examples: the US as a general answer, multistate regions of the US, continents, or extraterrestrial locations) have been excluded for the purposes of this map
The map for the US:
Massachusetts: 104 California: 79 Nevada: 77 DC: 74 Arizona: 32 West Virginia: 25 Texas: 17 Utah: 15 Oregon: 14 Colorado: 13 New Mexico: 7 Virginia: 6 Maine: 6 Idaho: 6 Pennsylvania: 5 Illinois: 3 Washington: 3 Louisiana: 3 Florida: 3 Wyoming: 3 Tennessee: 3 New York: 3 Rhode Island: 2 North Carolina: 2 Minnesota: 2 Vermont: 2 Alaska: 2 Missouri: 2 Nebraska: 2 Michigan: 2 Indiana: 2 Kentucky: 2 Oklahoma: 2 Maryland: 2 Montana: 1 Connecticut: 1 Georgia: 1 New Jersey: 1 Wisconsin: 1
And the map for the rest of the world:
Canada: 7 Mexico: 7 UK: 7 Russia: 4 China: 2 Australia: 2 France: 2 Brazil: 1 Ireland: 1 Israel: 1 Finland: 1 Germany: 1 Japan: 1 Panama: 1
Further breakdown of characters from the UK: Wales: 4 (…these are all my guys, what can I say?) England: 2 Unspecified: 1
Has this character ever lived in a vault?
Yes: 223 No: 366
Faction
Minutemen: 99 Railroad: 86 Followers of the Apocalypse: 80 Brotherhood of Steel: 77 Yes Man/Independent Vegas: 63 NCR: 50 Caesar's Legion: 38 Original faction: 36 Institute: 26 Kings: 16 Great Khans: 14 Nuka-World raiders: 13 Mr House: 13 Raiders in general: 13 Goodneighbor: 11 Enclave: 11 Arroyo: 9 Think Tank/Big MT: 8 Reilly's Rangers: 7 Underworld: 7 Ciphers: 7 (would you believe me if I said the majority here are not mine? XD) Responders: 6 Acadia: 6 New Vegas Strip in general: 6 Lyons' Pride: 5 Children of Atom: 5 Megaton: 5 Gunners: 5 Boomers: 5 Powder Gangers: 5 Cult of the Mothman (all variations): 4 Crimson Caravan: 4 Chairmen: 4 Mojave Express: 4 Necropolis: 3 Shady Sands (pre-NCR): 3 Vault 13: 3 Twin Mothers: 3 Diamond City: 3 Freeside: 3 White Glove Society: 3 Vault-Tec: 3 Bishop family: 3 Regulators: 2 Tunnel Snakes: 2 New Canaan: 2 Gecko: 2 Settlers/Foundation: 2 Abolitionists/Temple of the Union: 2 Galaxy News Radio: 2 80s: 2 Desert Rangers: 2 Unity/Master's Army: 2 Vault 76: 2 US Government: 2 Broken Hills: 2 Sanctuary: 2 Blue Ridge Caravan Company: 2 Goodsprings: 2 Cutthroat raiders: 2 Feral ghouls: 2 Hub: 2 Ghouls in general: 2 Nuka-World in general: 2 Little Lamplight/Big Town: 2
And the list of factions with one response, allegedly for the sake of something called 'brevity': Boulder scientists, Vault City, Littlehorn & Associates, Jacobstown, New Reno, Brotherhood Outcasts, Marked Men, Mole Miners, Treeminders, Forged, Junktown, Triggermen, Free States, Vault 101, Vault 81, Slags, Hubris Comics, Bunker Hill, Rivet City, Van Graffs, Ug-Qualtoth, West Tek, Vault 95, Novac, Atom Cats, The Outer Worlds factions, Commonwealth Super Mutants, caravan companies in general
I was initially planning to include a separate 'ish' category for each faction, to account for characters that are aligned with factions unwillingly/temporarily/out of necessity, but looking at the dataset, that sort of situation was so much more prevalent than I realised and quickly made everything very clunky.
Main approach to problems
Diplomacy: 211 Combat: 147 Stealth: 101 Technical skills: 79 Avoidance: 53
And finally for now- preferred weapon type
Small guns: 191 Melee: 128 Energy weapons: 91 Big guns: 82 Avoids combat altogether: 49 Explosives: 27 Unarmed combat: 24
-
As always, thank you to everyone who participated and gave me a little information about your OCs! If you'd ever like to talk more about them, my inbox is always open :D. Getting to learn about everyone's brainchildren is definitely my favourite aspect of my tangential foray into the Fallout fandom sphere.
My future plan for this dataset includes… a lot of pie charts, to put it mildly. As I've done for past survey datasets, I'll be compiling pie charts for each question, separating responses by the game that the characters are from, and we'll see if any trends emerge!
