With said concept Jimmy’s the canary because his hope and determination manifests in a sort of safety net around the server. He saves them through virtue of Being Alive and being a hopeful moron (/pos). Under normal circumstances, no one can die until he does

Lizzie was already in a hopeless state because she was so isolated. It was hard enough to hear the “song” from where she was, but her going to the End cut her off completely (again, weird qualities)

With the safety net gone, she’s able to fall

Also should say that while I don’t think Lizzie has the curse now, I do think her circumstances were essential in breaking it. She fell into a despair so deep even the manifestation of hope couldn’t save her

I've always been a true believer of medic mikey and I've been thinking a lot of 2012 medic mikey today

so here's a bunch of thoughts about it from my twt if it feels weirdly paced and chopped it's because i just copy and pasted from different posts

Mikey probably started with the want of learning more about medicine after leo ends up in a coma.

Kind of like a brutal awakening that his older brothers are not invincible

until that point he probably helped both donnie and leo with basic first aid, since in 2012, the brothers all seem to know some sort of basic medical knowledge to a certain point (raph carries a first aid with him in half shell heroes meaning they all probably have their own).

Mikey probably sees leo burdened with his father's shadow and the weight of being the leader and letting everyone down, raph so worried about them at all times and so angry at himself for not being able to protect his family better, donnie mostly always stressed out. with no sleep. always having to FIX something and all this probably make mikey realize that putting being a medic on top of any of his brothers would just be for the worst so he decides to take it into himself to specialize in that part.

Mikey would ask help for getting more information to study about medicine and turtle health veterinary from both donnie and april (april would love to help +she can get more physical aid like books from libraries and such while donnie is the one brother who doesn't actually mind what mikey asks him and also actually answers his questions with facts). While studying he most probably would forget a lot about the scientific or actual names for different things so he would just make up his own designations because that way it makes sense to him (his brothers would all learn later on about mikey's own system perhaps because it's just them and it's not like mikey is going to go work at a hospital so it doesn't really affect them much).

Being the group medic just would fit him so well because hes very smart and not squeamish about A LOT of things in comparison to his brothers (throwback to when donnie did said he was actually squeamish in the show) so donnie probably would also encourage him in his studies and even try to help him to retain info with different methods that actually work with Mikey (because of adhd brain) like making references to his favorite show or comics while learning medical info to make it easier for him to focus.

The fact that mikey is the most perceptive of his brothers and also the one to keep a cool head when all of the other ones are losing it, would be factors that help him while being the medic as well.

Mikey being the smallest one and fastest of his brothers so hes probably the only one who could make it to any of them in record time if needed be.

I feel like, since 2012 mikey is the one brother who uses his skateboard the most, he probably would start bringing his skate strapped to his shell everywhere because he can use it as an emergency medical stretcher to move his brothers around in the case he was not able to carry them around physically

maybe even begging leo for a longboard later on because they are bigger which, again, could help him in emergency situations.

Thinking also on how leo probably didn't really talk much about the healing hands technique with his brothers so mikey probably unlocked the healing hands in his own way and in a really high stress situation where the sheer willing force was just wanting to help his family.

Mikey would definitely sing staying alive while giving cpr: muttering the lyrics along in a frenetic way while punching his brother's chest, because of their plastrons, and trying to get him to breath again all while listening his other brothers yells be deafened by the sound of lasers pass by over their heads.

And after being home and safe, he'd give everyone those lollipops right after quickly making sure none of them are dealing with a concussion (he is but hes fine, he promises).

OK so I'm feeling some guilt I started to draw cartoony like you but I get frustrated because it does bot look perfect like yours it's mostly small stuff like colors and clothes I love making cartoony body's sometimes clothing but I have color picking because I'm still new to art that has colors is my feelings normal or is it wrong of me? And how do I pick colors because it frustrated me to no end and made me stop drawing for months anyway in short summary how do I color the right way like I guess I know skin tones but anything else goes wrong and the other summary is how do you draw clothing because I can't for the life of me get clothing right

don't worry - it's normal to get frustrated when drawing. i know i've literally quit and deleted entire illustrations in the past because i didn't like how the colors came out, and i can spend whole hours just choosing base colors TwT i think the important part about learning art is not to rush. i'm seriously flattered you see me as inspiration, but what worked best for me back when i heavily referenced other artists was "mixing" styles together to create a "new" one - so i'd recommend studying and copying multiple artists you like and trying to blend their styles into one if that makes sense! ^^

hating color picking is completely normal when you're first starting out, and even late into art like i said before - i've been making original digital art on ibispaint for about 5 years now, and it's still difficult. but it's easy to make it fun, and the best way to do that imo is to experiment! i'd recommend studying color theory on a larger scale, and understanding how certain colors might look completely different based on where you put them. or maybe make an illustration and color it in a bunch of alternative ways! also, having "bad" or "awful" color skills starting out is OK - i still think my colors suck sometimes even now lol.

anyway, the best way for me to color pick is to just use that color for whatever the OG artist used for their art. let's use alex ahad as an example because i find his art and color use super interesting -

i don't usually color pick, but when i do, i typically start with picking the eye color. then, based off of the eye color, i chose a base color based on the character's color pallete (easier of the eye color is already close to the main color of the character, which for clyde is turquoise).

then, i pick more colors directly from the reference, for stuff like skin. at this point i have a good idea of the colors i want to use and stop color picking from the ref, but there's no shame if you still feel you need to.

after that, based on the colors i picked, i'll color in the rest of the piece. i usually end up changing the colors that i did take from the reference due to experimenting - for me, i just use color picking as a sort of stepping stone for when i'm not sure how to color a piece the exact way i want.

eventually, you can learn to color pick by eye rather than with the picking tool in your art program, tho that takes a lot of knowledge on color theory.

really there is no "right" way to color, especially for skin imo - don't limit yourself to just peach, tan and brown. clyde's skin is bright white, but i still used a yellowy color here because it was relative to the other colors in the piece. i've also used "alien" tones for human-toned characters in the past before!

and about clothing folds - i can make a full post on that if anybody else is interested OuO

Hi this is Q! I’m coming out of the woodwork to address this, since I did went radio silent out of the blue so it’s not a bother at all

The short answer is Yes, I deleted my tiktok

Yes delete not deactivate, I’m not coming back to That app or IG or Twt, I deleted my socials except here and YouTube, I honestly felt so overwhelmed with everything, I realized I’m not even posting for myself anymore there. A lots of people crossed my boundaries time and time again I felt so helpless, bitter with myself. I guess I was just overwhelmed with the attention I got; both positive and negatives ones.

Im done and I want to start over so that’s why I’m here and on YouTube, I already posted some of these on my community tab on YT but here’s what I have in mind for the future of the content I want to create: more detail under the cut, and also;

CW: very brief mention of spiraling, harm inflict oneself or others, paranoia, etc

•Long-form content: my attention span is a bit messed up from consuming and making short-form content to the point where I can’t focus in university. I want to create something meaningful. It’s not that my previous content was not meaningful, no. I had fun and no time is wasted when I have fun, it was warm… but as I mentioned earlier, I just felt this lingering bitterness the longer I stayed making those short-form content. It really felt like I was on the verge of losing it. Especially with how the bigger following I have the less people think of me as a person than just another content creator you see on the internet,

I want to create long-form content, I’m so tired of forcing myself to generate 15 second content. On tiktok it just feels like I’m just creating and not really connecting. I want to try something new, maybe create an open space for meaningful discussion in the comments. I don’t think I can stand another copy-paste tiktok comment anymore. You know what I meant if you’re frequent on that app.

•Art Content with Commentary: and don’t worry this won’t be those petty artist drama issue, but I will still cover anything serious

it could be love letters or video essays ranging from fan fictions, fandom culture, the art scene and so much more. I may even share a bit of my personal life, this will be self indulgent after all! I want to make it fun for myself and as well to those who comes across my channel. I really REALLY want to create a genuine following.

On tiktok it’s so easy to gain following but not so easy to retain them, it’s mostly because of the algorithm and the FYP feature there.

On Tiktok most content that would get featured as an artist there would be creative work has to be either; more than exceptional which is pressuring enough already to consistent posters, straight up suggestive content shown to minors (tiktok doesn’t really have a blocked keywords feature but it’s so disheartening to see these creators intentionally not using the sensitive warning since it could limit their reach significantly) oh yes we can’t forget the negativity surrounding beginner artists or “art lore”

All of this cesspool of negativity, it’s a whole can of worms but it will be one of my prominent topics that I wish to discuss in my future art commentaries. I hope you guys are looking forward to those! I might bring in a few people or so to talk about it with me

and finally;

•Streaming: I used to do a lot of streams during the weekends on the clock app and it was super fun! I want to bring that back but that would have to wait since I’m unfamiliar with some features on YouTube, and I’m aware that YT does not have a discoverable feature for stream but that’s alright, I want to start something small first.

In short; I’ll figure it out! just need some baby steps before I start streaming again.

I apologize for deleting everything out of the blue, if I’m gonna be honest it was partially planned because I’ve been thinking about deleting my tiktok, twitter and Instagram for a while now but how it happened? In my breakdown I realized that I don’t want anyone to see me spiral, especially now that I realized how young my audience are, I’m not sure how that happened but I guess posting fandom contents does attract the young ones somehow inevitably, even though my content is nowhere near as suggestive, but I do talk about serious topics from time to time… but I digress, its not fair for them to deal with me if they see me spiral publicly,

it is especially not fair to them to console me. When I was younger than 14, I’ve been in a position where I have to talk down someone who was older, maybe 4-5 years older than me, from harming themselves or anyone, it was traumatizing and unpleasant. I don’t wish for anyone to go through that, it’s very painful.

It’s been… hard for me to ground myself. Ive been seeing things through a kaleidoscope of emotions; I was trying to focus on everything but it’s just too overwhelming so eventually I cracked. But please don’t worry I’ve been doing better now, after some time away from my online persona, and of course spending time with my beloved girlfriend, I see things much more clearly now.

Thank you to anyone who read this and much so appreciate those who understand where I’m coming from

Also now that I think of it can my stuff be considered as lost media now? Amazing! But please don’t be sad the fun I had was genuine!

-Octopi are intelligent creatures so Yoshida's contract with the octopus devil is for him to get good grades because it doesnt want to work with a dumb human

-Yoshida ONLY drinks iced coffee, he can tolerate room temp but never hot

-Yoshida really likes cold food in general

-As a kid, Asa knew running while holding scissors is bad so she never did it because she knew she'd trip with them, but in grade school she probably tripped and got hurt anyway from a nearby classmate holding scissors

-Yoshida likes lemon lime sodas because I like lemon lime sodas no other reason it's just true

-Nayuta is a selective mute, but she and Denji click so well that he immediately knows if she needs anything even if she doesnt say or sign anything

-As reckless as he is sometimes, Denji is still very good at taking care of Nayuta, he learned a lot from Aki and from taking care of all the dogs. THIS I'm quite sure is basically canon, even just from the small glimpse of them together in ch97

-If CSM took place in modern times, Yoru is SHIT at video games and Asa is average (hi, not part of the original twt thread, I just remembered that csm doesn't take place THAT long ago and that Denji and Power literally bought a video game console with... Aki's money... So yeah the modern times part was a little dumb of me, but it still applies to some of the hcs ahead)

-Denji spams buttons in fighting games and Yoshida has combos memorized, but somehow he still loses to Denji sometimes

-Yuko is better than all of them and is probably a speedrunning champion

-If all four (five w yoru) of them played games together, Denji and Asa would be at each other's throats while Yoshida and Yuko silently keep playing and win in the end

-Yuko is nonbinary (in the same way she can't understand people, she can't understand gender roles and all that dumb shit cishets push)

-Related to that last part, Yuko is autistic! It was genuinely my first thought when I read the "I don't understand people" line in 105, I love her so dearly (also I'm also a nonbinary autistic so I'm projecting a little)

-Yoshida is gay and grey aromantic (grayromantic?? Forgot the term) (Also projecting except I'm bi instead of gay, u can tell I love projecting onto my scrimblos)

-Yukoasa are bi4les! Asa is bi but is sapphic leaning after the interaction that is ch104 JSJSKFJDJ she really thought man, men aren't worth it and just visited yuko

-Asa is transfem!! Idk I just saw the flashbacks she had and how she had short hair at one point and I was like hmm and my transfem moots agreed (That post blew up a little actually and some people genuinely thought I was weird or that I was stereotyping cause of the short hair, so I don't talk about this hc that often. I genuinely would've headcanoned her as transfem before I even saw the short hair though, I love hitting csm characters with the transification beam.)

-Speaking of, Yoshida is transmasc! He's a reincarnation of Togata from Fire Punch that was able to successfully transition (socially at least), and he binds! This is one of my fav hcs cause god I love Togata and Yoshida's eerieness in part 1 is really EXTREMELY similar to Togata, and they both have really similar features like black eyes and hair, the fringe between their eyes, the mole under their lip, AND THE WAY THEY SMILE??? I genuinely no joke think Yoshida was meant to be a nod to Togata back when Fujimoto drew him in part 1

-Back to the videogames thing, Asa would be 1st in Mario Kart then fuck up last minute right before she reaches the finish line, and she ends up in last place. My girl trips at the worst time even in video games 💀

Introducing a new member to the digital circus, Birdie!

So, yes, I caved & made a TADC OC cuz why not? It was kinda @dorkygurl-89's fault because of her TADC oc, but it's whatever. I had no business making her so caked & snatched at the same time, though, goddamn

Meet Birdie! She's a 24 y/o six armed ladybird spider who is literally just Blitz from Helluva boss, but a bit more chaotic. Don't let her extroverted personally & big smile fool you, this bitch is a MENACE

She actually entered the digital realm on her birthday, & instead of being nervous or confused or scared, she was ecstatic to be there! She was already a bit of a nutcase in her past life & liked/collected weird things, so that's why she was so happy to be there. Caine was honestly really surprised at how calm she was about it since usually people are at least a little bit confused when they first arrive. But, Birdie was loving every second of it. Needless to say, she had a better first day than most XD

She's the juggler in the circus & can juggle alot of things at once with six arms & she's always trying to go above & beyond with her skills

She & Jax are best friends, basically partners in crime. They are the most petty & sassy shit talkers in the whole circus & their friendship usually consists of them bullying people or each other. She's also just as tall as him, only being about a foot ½ shorter. They tend to share one braincell & do a bunch of stupid shit together

She & Jax always make little wagers on who's gonna lose it or abstract first & how long it'll take them. With Pomni, Jax said a week, & Birdie said "Since when are you so generous? I give her 11 minutes."

Speaking of Pomni, once she entered the picture, she pesters her out of love alot. She understands her confusion & worry, so she teases, messes with, & jokes with her just to take her mind off it. She does care about her, she's just not that great at showing it

For some reason, she really didn't like Kaufmo at all before he abstracted. She always thought he was a loser. But, now that he's abstracted & in the cellar, she does feel sliiiiiightly bad for him. Just a little

She doesn't care at all that there's a censor & still runs her mouth ALOT. Caine even said it himself; "Despite the censor, she still cusses constantly. Some people never learn." At least that's a rough summary of it

She thinks Kinger is an annoying old lunatic, she treats Gangle the best compared to Jax, Zooble doesn't like her, she's popped Bubble one too many times cuz of her being weirded out from them, & she carries Ragatha like a teddy bear alot. I like to think that since she's a ragdoll, she's extremely light. She also does it with Pomni, too, but mostly Ragatha

Because of Alisa the mime being there along with her babu Cypher, she tends to poke fun at her alot. Stealing her umbrella, squishing her face making her try & talk for once, running off with Cypher, that sorta thing. Especially with her ironically shipping her & Jax together & messing with them CONSTANTLY about it. & even though she technically can, she just chooses not to live without either a coffee (Hot or iced, doesn't matter) or a bit plate of spaghetti

Bottom line, she's a bully but she bullies out of love

re:expectations, i actually dont think leona expects too much from Yuujin Specifically, just in general. but also. in some ways i dont think he believes he'll get it. if that makes sense

ultimately i think it's incredibly interesting to see the way dick contrasts with bruce in terms of demeanor and coping mechanisms and how that shapes him as a leader to others, most obv the titans. i like that he takes the parts of bruce that he respects and adapts them to himself - the restraint, the careful planning, the resistance to kill - but that he also has the mind not to accidentally absorb bruce's non-ideal traits, too, like the emotional repression or miscommunication (not to say that he can’t revert to these tactics but it’s obviously something that comes out in very serious circumstances, mostly). dick isn’t a perfect person without flaws, but. . . i like that he's a better version of bruce that came to pass bc he didn't grow up alone, and that bruce's and alfred's and the titans’ presence in his life allowed him to healthily express himself so that he didn't become a recluse. yes, that childhood living in the wayne manor wasn't always ideal, and he stood his ground against bruce when he felt it was warranted, but i think it's the fact that he had someone to rebel against at all and friends to relate to in the titans that allowed him a healthy upbringing where he didn't inevitably retract into himself the same way bruce did. the fact that he more or less always surrounds himself with people who will inspire him and ground him is what makes him a good hero, i think, and i feel like it's why i would agree that he shines in team books over solo books as a result. he's got a really strong sense of self and it's why he shines as a leader, confidante, and mentor figure. along that vein, while i do agree with his titans-leaning fans that his focus ought to be with the titans as a whole, i do think he'd care immensely about how the other robins were doing under bruce bc he knows how bruce's issues can unintentionally create. . . more issues lol. like obviously the titans are his family first and foremost (aside from bruce and alfred) but i don’t think he would be indifferent to the robins because again he’s familiar with that experience of working with bruce and as the original rebellious robin he knows how to call bruce out on his bullshit when he happens to be dishing it. i'm not fond of interpretations where bruce is cruelly dismissive of and even gaslights dick, rather i prefer a bruce who internally respects his space and maturity but also struggles externally with missing dick and letting him go and not knowing how to tell him that without feeling like he's replaced him and blindsided him when he finds other robins. i think dick is someone who'd be smart enough to figure out some of that even if he has to chastise bruce a bit for being so in his head and not communicating properly with him so that bruce actually feels compelled to be honest and vulnerable with him as a father figure. and i think since dick is so used to calling bruce out on his bullshit that i would honestly see him being more defensive of the sidekicks than of bruce? like obv they share a moral code but idk with jason for example i think if the comics hadn’t been so set on pushing the “jason was reckless” agenda that dick would definitely have pushed back more against that interpretation of events and tried to get to the bottom of the truth and confront bruce about his mistakes in handling and processing the death.

ultimately i like that dick is someone who's intent to chart his own path but that he's also propelled by his compassion for others. he makes me think of a sober coach, in the sense that he's a hardass, but a loveable one who's straight with you because he gives a damn and he knows you can be better

Back on topic, I am happy that in the fandoms I'm in, update blogs or accounts are well loved so no drama there but I agree on cc peeps, my gosh the decline of them is obvious for the past 2 years =/ I remember 2018 the carat fandom here was HUGE with creators and lots of notes but now...its hard to see more than 200 for some and while numbers don't matter because you should ALWAYS be doing this for fun, its so shocking to see the interaction go so low and its more likes. I do have a theory as to why this is the case and it might be due to nowadays, people on Tumblr find reblogging alot to be "too much" akaspamming. I would know because some told me I do this and I'm like ??? I am simply reblogging content I like and if it means hitting the rbelog limit so be it djajdjw. Legit idk why its seen as bad nowadays when everyone used to reblog alot and no one complained so maybe this could be why? Again a theory but it would make sense and its a shame if this is the case :c I admit I like stuff because I sometimes do reblog it for a color theme but mostly I hit the reblog limit so I want to reblog it later xD

But let's not get into people that take others work as their own -.- now I get giving credit for say icons (I do this for icons and headers I use because its the least I can do. but yeah i joined carat tumblr around late 2017/early 2018 (i made this side blog during oh my era but I'd been reblogging svt stuff on main before then) and I'm p sure most if not all the cc's i originally followed are inactive now :( obviously like you said content creators should make content for fun and bc they want to and not for the notes, but it's understandably disheartening when less people are interacting with it and even the people who do still see your content are (at least seemingly) less enthusiastic about it (ie liking but not reblogging it, less ppl writing things in the tags or replies, etc.)

but that's so wild to me? I've never heard anyone say someone is reblogging too many things like... how do you expect to see posts if people don't reblog stuff?? id welcome that extra content on my dash dhfjfh. i guess you can go in specific tags but like. idk reblogging is the main function of tumblr i don't know why there are people sort of against it/not as willing to use it (i mean... i suspect at least one factor is other social media platforms relying more on algorithms and likes to show people new content and ppl are just more used to that maybe?)

i feel like to some extent people feel entitled to have every or any gif or fanart or fan content on their platform of choice, but like if an artist posts something on tumblr but not on twt or instagram it doesn't HAVE to be on twt or insta. people can make a tumblr (or whatever platform) account if that's the only place a creator is active and they really want to see their content. and if people want to share something cool to another platform it is not hard to just post a link to the original post and tell people to check it out. like i do that every once in a while if there's a translation that doesn't allow reposts, but i still want ppl to know that trans exists if they wouldn't normally. and yeah!! you're gonna get less engagement that way!! but that's when you need to question whether your intention is really to share something cool w people who wouldn't normally see it or if you just want clout from this cool thing for yourself

and obviously not everyone who reposts things wo credit or permission has such innocent intentions as "i want to share this cool thing" but i think in a lot of cases it is something similar to that where ppl see something and they want to use it or share it for whatever reason and they just forget that it's something an actual person took the time to create and chose to share it. fan creations, unless otherwise specified, are not like memes in that they're intended to be shared and edited and copied to hell and back

but yeah pinterest is the worst in terms of reposts. like very little if any of the content on there (at least that's fandom related) is original content. the vast majority is reposts from other platforms without credit. a few weeks ago i saw someone on twt post like an old SVT photo or something and someone asked where it was from and they were like 'idk i saw it on pinterest' and when i tell u my blood boiled dhfkfj like!! ok!! so you're reposting a repost and u have no idea what the original source is... great

but yeah i have no idea what SVT is gonna do with pinterest... guessing it's just gonna be pledis posting official/behind photos that they also post on twt anyway. it really looks like it's something bh made them create given other bhl artists also have pinterests they're all following each other. also pledis didn't even officially announce the new account opening anywhere as far as I've seen so like. i think they really don't care dhfkfj

i just read your carrd!! it's really pretty. i also hope it's okay to ask, but i am interested to know why you want to transition from x readers to character x character, and if so, what will happen to this blog? will you be posting your character x character works here?

TLDR: i won't post character x character on tumblr but my blog isn't going anywhere. I want to write c x c because i think they're more interesting and I wrote a bunch on why.

soo while i was hiatusing i thought about that a bit

Originally, i intended to do both here but i feel like that will get a bit messy so my plan at the moment is to keep tumblr for character x reader works and use ao3 for character x character. I'm still in school right now so i can't give the time i want to either of these, but my focus will probably shift and I'll spend less time on tumblr than I did before. I'm not going to abandon this blog, but rather than dedicate a lot of energy to long character x reader fics, I'd rather use reader inserts as "warmup" pieces that are shorter and take less time to do. I'll still post here, just less than I did whenever i was at my "peak" of content/posting.

As for why i want to switch, there's a few reasons. Firstly, c x c will definitely reach a greater audience than reader-inserts. As a writer, I want the chance for more people to read my works. That being said, it's something I'm very interested in doing, i dont want anyone to have the impression I'm just in it for the numbers.

I've said this a few times before but when I started this blog I was rather emotionally compromised. For me, writing was almost only an outlet for me to heal or at the very least take my mind off of my own situation. I think this is the case for a lot of reader-insert writers and readers, and i dont think thats bad. We want a way to get out of our own situations or lives, so we live vicariously through fiction. It's (probably??) a helping coping mechanism and it's fun!!

But as I've kept writing, it's always been a goal of mine to keep pushing my boundaries in order to improve. At first this meant expanding my media to different types of stories by writing smaus, short scenarios, and headcanons (hcs quickly got boring for me tbvh and they are the majority of my pending reqs). Once Iwas doing all different sorts of stories, I tried to expand my style but incorporating elements of my own prose and other authors that I hadn't thought of before. But storytelling for me has always been largely character-based. Rather than an interesting setting or plot, I want to write characters that come to life on the page.

And reader-inserts just don't cut it.

A reader-insert is a fic that anyone should be able to relate, regardless of appearances or age or anything, unless it's otherwise specified (ie punk!reader or artist!reader). Because the reader character has to be left blank, it starts to feel like all their interactions with characters are the same. Even if I'm writing for a specific character, i could probably copy and paste another person's name in and it wouldn't make a difference.

I'm not saying reader inserts can't characterize subjects well, I've read magnificent ones that absolutely do. But it's more difficult and in order to do so the stories still tend to have less of a focus on characterization and more of focus on setting and plot (look at my love in time analysis: that story was all about the characters). When I got bored with short scenarios I tried to plan out longer, more intricate stories like lemonade and rekindle, but that quickly became a bunch of wips of c x c fics because there's more potential.

I really enjoy analysis of characters, it's why the 'sleepover with ray' event is fun bc people ask questions about the characters themselves w/o need for a reader character. As I try to make my writing more sophisticated, I think inevitably it was going to expand to character x character fics because while reader insert fics let you explore one character at a time, c x c lets you delve into the emotions behind their interactions and learn about both of them.

It might just be my shortcomings as a writer that limit me from what doing that with reader-insert fics but, frankly, I'm okay with that. I'm doing this so i can first and foremost write something I'll enjoy (which rn happens to be character x character) and secondly so I can improve and get to a point where I can write how I want. I want to switch to character x character writing because they have far more potential in my eyes and in the long run.

Side note: this is absolutely terrifying. I wrote a twt thread on it (I'd link it if my acct wasn't locked 😭), but as I've been reading c x c fics on ao3 and interacting w the authors a bit on twt and in discord i came to the realization that this audience is generally a bit older. I got in a slump comparing my writing to someone elses (never do that, it's about growth) only to realize they were twelve years older than me. Thats a whole preteen of age in between us 😭😭. From my experience, reader insert readers are mostly teens and i think this makes sense: we're fed up with feeling out of control and putting ourselves in the story helps remedy that or at least helps distract us. Character x character has more adult readers: people in control of their lives looking more to live vicariously through someone else's. For me the understanding that my writing will have more critical eyes judging it is both enthralling and terrifying, but that's what I want to write so I'm not about to let it stop me.

I want to clarify: I don't think less of reader inserts as media. For one thing, I dedicated two months of my time to them. I just find it limiting with where I am right now. As I take on bigger projects that take more time, I'm more drawn to character x character, so that's what I'll do!! When I finish stuff up i might post the ao3 link for exposure but I'm not gonna make a masterlist or anything for it all. I'm keeping reader-inserts as short pieces that take less time, but I'm not going to stop writing them all together.

Q (Anonymous): When did u start reading fics? And when did u ever reach a point when u found yourself reading things that u never thought you’d read before? Im in my late 20’s. Got into Hp fics like most 13-15 year olds in the early 00’s, and i’ve been in so many fandoms. (Including1/d which i will say had some of the best fics i’ve come across) although i will say b/ts fics are pretty up there too. But i find myself very ??? At the b/ts stuff i’m reading NOW in my late 20’s, whereas i was pretty conservative before 😂 and i’ve been trying to pin it down, like why am i into dark fics? Abo? Da/ddy kink? Sub drop?? And dead dove. I’ve come to the conclusion its stan twt 😂 i follow authors then follow their moots and their moots moots. Everyone had kinks, and they spill it on their timeline. And at this ripe old age curiosity got the best of me 😂 So i read their work and their moots work and its all new to me! But i like it! Lol

A: i'm in my 30s, and i started reading fic when i was 13 on like lotr rpf webrings, and have also been in a bunch of fandoms since then 😂 pretty soon after that i got into hp fic and that was most of what i read through high school. even in hp as a teenager though, i read some pretty dark shit, like i was a member of some locked livejournal hp fic communities that i was DEFINITELY not old enough to be lurking in! then later i was in teen wolf, and again, like there's lots of monster fucking so there was some pretty dark stuff. in bts part of what strikes me as different from my previous fandoms is that most of the fic author community happens on twitter, and nsfw threads on twitter are wildly popular and often very extreme, while i never really saw a corollary to those on quite the same level of popularity in my other fandoms. it's impossible for me to know though if it's really any larger a portion of the fic community as a whole! it sounds like you just happened to find one or two authors you really like this time around who had some kinks, and it led you down a rabbit hole in the way fandom so often does! i think that fanfic can be a cool space to explore things that might be taboo or extreme, or that we would never be into in real life, and i think it's especially safe for you to do that as an adult who already has a solid idea of how healthy sex works! go sow your oats! i support you! my list of hard no's in fic has definitely changed over time, but is still fairly extensive, and it's really just based on what turns me off, which, again, can change over time and even between formats (for example, some things that i might find hot in the context of a longer fic with plot i might not find sexy in the context of an nsfw thread, which is a different style of writing.) sexuality and arousal are fluid, and i'm happy that fic is helping you to get a better idea of what your own imagination can find sexy or not!
