merlin told arthur his favorite color was the color of the sky during sunset when it shifted into a deep violet. arthur gets a tunic made in that exact shade. its the best thing merlin owns. arthur was hoping that would mean he’d wear it almost everyday but merlin almost never wears it. the only time he does wear it is when royals come to visit (which isn’t all that often). arthur “subtly” asks about it and merlin is like “it’s the best thing i own. i’m not gonna dirty it mucking out the stables or serving rowdy knights wine while they splatter food on it” and arthur is like “why not wear it when nobles come to visit? look at least a little presentable for them” (cough nice save). merlin doesn’t see the point in it bc nobles don’t care about him at best, view him as less than human at worst.

arthur really just wants to see his boyfriend servant in the tunic he had made for him (bonus points for sending a message that merlin is his. not that merlin seems to notice. man is too much of an idiot). merlin wants to preserve his favorite tunic and gift from his boyfriend king.

canon merthur is so special because they’re ACTUALLY the only one who gets to accompany the other meeting each-other’s deadTM parents.

we saw arthur meeting ygraine only through merlin lens (+ the whole sigil thing????) and the only one who get to see merlin and balinor spend time with each-other is arthur

sometimes it's a bit embarrassing really to be a merlin fan irl. was in a museum yesterday in luxembourg displaying the history of europe, and before anyone could notice, there was a very undignified shriek erupting from me in the middle of the place as I saw this

Sometimes I forget that fanon shit isn't canon. Like in the Merlin fandom, what do you mean Arthur wasn't in love with Merlin and KNEW IT when he was about to die?? Or in the teen wolf fandom what do you mean Liam didn't get his IED from his biological father and the name of his parents isn't Jenna and David geyer?? Like these things are full on Canon to me.

That's why I add subtext when I tell my friends about the shows I like. And the funny thing is, it doesn't change the perspective of things. I can tell my friends "this is where this guy felt this and this girl did that beforehand" and it doesn't change the scene, it just gives it more depth.

So fanon is canon. Thanks for listening to my little rant.
