Sirius’s sweet supply seemed endless. He’d shown Remus what he’d brought with him after they’d finished their lion bars. He had Snicker bars, bags of Maltesers, more Mars bars, Milkyways, Milkybars, Rolos, M&M’s, the plain ones, the peanut ones and the biscuit ones, Haribo Starmix, Haribo Tangfastics and a fat bag of Pic ’n’ Mix. Remus had drooled over the selection. 

“Wow, your parents must be missing you,” He said dreamily as Sirius passed him a bag of Starmix. He ripped the blue bag open and popped a fired egg into his mouth. 

“Ha! Yeah right,” He shook his head as he laughed quietly. “These are all from Effie Potter. She knows I like a chocolate bar, and she always goes overboard.” Remus felt like there was more that Sirius hadn’t said. 

“So James’s mum sends James with sweets for you?” He asked cautiously, wanting to know why someone would send a boy she wasn’t related to so many branded sweets. 

“I, er, kind of live with James,” Sirius said awkwardly, dragging his fingers through his hair and yelping when one got caught on a tangle. “My parents kicked me out when they found out I liked boys. My little brother still lives there, but if the rumours are true he should be getting disowned any day now. But I doubt it will go that far. They’ll give him an ultimatum and force him to marry a suitable bride as soon as he’s out of school.” Sirius screwed up his face and huffed at the floor. “They need their heir after all,” He said darkly. He stood in silence for a second before he shook his head and plastered a huge smile on his face. “Anyway, enough of the tragic origin story. I live with James, and Effie and Monty are my parents now, and I’ve never been happier.” Remus stood up and wrapped his arms around Sirius, holding him tight. 

“Your real parents sound proper shit. I hope they get chased down the road by angry magpies,” Sirius collapsed into laughter, shaking against Remus. 

“Oh my god, Remus. Thank you, thank you for that image. Oh my god,” He repeated, wiping tears from his eyes. 

The cabin door banged open and James dragged Peter in, who was pressing a clump of cotton wool to his face. 

“I slipped on the dock trying to get the kayak out of the water. Pomfrey says it’s not broken, but I have to sit down quietly and hold this to it until the bleeding stops.” He grumbled as he went and sat on his bed. 

“I swear you’re cursed, Pete,” Sirius said seriously. “I’ve never known anyone who has so many accidents on a regular basis as you. You must have done something awful in a previous life for this level of torment.” Peter stuck his fingers up at Sirius. Sirius gasped at the audacity. “That’s it, you’ll be a fat little worm that can only eat lettuce in your next life now,” Peter stuck his fingers up again and left them there. Remus couldn’t keep the snort that escaped him as he laughed at the pair. James came over and plonked himself on Remus’s bed and helped himself to Remus’s Haribo. 

“Then you must have done something truly terrible to have parents like yours,” James quipped, coming to Peter’s defence. Sirius spun on him, pointing his finger. 

“Hey, I was wrongly accused or else how do you explain me finding you and our parents?”

“He’s got you there, James,” Peter said, his voice slightly muffled by the cotton wool. 

Remus sat back and listened to them tease each other, thinking he must have put up with a lot in his previous life to be this lucky now. He popped another Haribo into his mouth, only realising it was a heart when it hit his tongue. He smiled to himself and threw a gummy bear at the back of Sirius’s head, pointing at an unsuspecting James when he turned around. Sirius launched himself through the air, landing on James and toppling them off Remus’s bed entirely. Remus stretched his legs out fully. This is the life, he thought as he folded his arms behind his head and relaxed.

Alien Worlds

I had the opportunity to go out and spend some time under the stars out in the California desert this past weekend, and other than losing $300 worth of tripod and the fact it was still 100° at 10 o'clock at night I had a great time.

Here I've captured the northern dusty end of one of the arms of our very own Milkyway galaxy arching over some pretty cool foreground intrest. This was the last of a few hundred long exposure frames I captured during the night over the course of 7 or 8 different compositions I had found. The ambient temperature and the large numbers of long exposures meant that this frame was LOADED with noise and hot pixels.

To counter noise and hot pixels I typically take between 10 to 15 frames of any given scene and then take two or three dark frames so my post processing software can identify the hot pixels and remove them for me. In this case because this was the last shot of the night I took this as a single frame I didn't have the usual set of exposures needed to properly complete an image. As such I used Adobe's new de-noise software in the CameraRAW application. It works pretty well, but because the noise and hot pixels were so bad I really had to crank it up for the foreground and it overly softened much of the detail to be found there.

Still though, I'd rather have the shot than not.

You're...you're not? Oh. Well. Shit. But if you are then may I introduce you to the world of Mili?

The following is my attempting at listing every Mili song that I think fits with sefikura. Bear with me, this will be a long one.

Album: Mag Mell (released 2014)

Imagined Flight: With lines like "Swing through debris and waste, Float nonstop, Exploring milkyway," and the verse "Repress, Manipulate, Dominate, Now, Imagine you can fly, Take all the universes under your control, Imagine you can fight, Imagine you're alive, Imagine you can" do I really need to explain why this song fits Cloud and Sephiroth so well?

Album: Miracle Milk (released 2016)

Red Dahlia: While this song is generally accepted as being about a doctor who impregnates their patient, it can easily be imagined to represent Cloud and Sephiroth's relationship. Especially when you consider the fact that Cloud had Sephiroth's cells forcibly added to his blood, this song could easily be about Cloud's feelings as Sephiroth begins to manipulate and control him from "within."

Ga1ahad and Scientific Witchery: A knight and a witch caught in a strange love-hate relationship. The knight seems insistent on killing the witch who revives the knight everytime he dies in his battle against the witches.

Bathtub Mermaid: This song as always made me think of Sephiroth taking control of Cloud and promising to take away all the agony he has experienced. Especially with lines like "stay with me you will never be sad" and "reborn, reform, twist my legs to one and mind to none."

Honourable mention: World.execute(me);: A song about a computer who falls in love with it's user. It's not as sefikura coded as the other songs, but any song with the line "challenging your god, you have made some illegal arguments" is a winner in my book.

Album: Millennium Mother (released 2018)

Extension of You: A song about a clone or computer of some sort who learns to copy it's creator, slowly learning to be sentient. Very fitting for puppet Cloud.

With a Billion Worldful of <3: The story of someone who falls in love with a Buddhist monk. Originally content with just being near the monk, the singer eventually decides to kill the monk so they can be together when they are reborn in a new life. It's easy to imagine Sephiroth as the singer, growing more and more obsessed with Cloud.

Every Other Ghost:

"Every meter of my skin reaching out Like every other ghost here to prove my love Every meter of my skin, mmm Like every other ghost, refusing to be dead."

Fossil: A song about suffering and forgiveness.

Album: To Kill a Living Book-For Library of Ruina- (released 2021)

From a Place of Love: This song is DARK. It's the story of two lovers who are sewn together, suffering horribly until they are killed. Sefikura wise, it really gives off the feeling of Cloud suffering under Sephiroth's control or affections, forced to spend forever with his enemy.

And Then is Heard no More: This song makes me think of Sephiroth regretting his actions towards Cloud, feeling guilty that his actions have hurt Cloud so badly.

Iron Lotus: I've always felt like this song is a good depiction of Cloud's mixed feelings towards Sephiroth. His guilt, anger, fear, and even his affection and adoration can all be seen in the lyrics. Not to mention how well the chorus lines up with Cloud's rather negative self image and him being fueled by his desire to kill Sephiroth.

Gone Angels: "For you, angels have fallen Now they're gone See? Now they're gone, forever gone From the hell that served as my one and only home Though it may hurt today Tomorrow, I'll be heading my way."

Need I say more?

Album: Key Ingredient (2022)

This album is basically a stripped back version of several of Mili's songs. All these songs were originally released on other albums, but these slower and often more emotional versions fit sefikura better, in my mind.

Chocological: What starts as a very sweet song (literally!) has a rather sad ending. One can imagine this song being about Cloud's idolization of Sephiroth and the way the idolization crashes and burns after Nibelheim.

And that is it, although there are dozens of other Mili songs that you might find also scratches that Sefikura itch.

Grogu couldn’t believe it when the Mandalorian told him he couldn’t go to the theater with him to watch Deadpool and Wolverine (or Wolverine and Deadpool as Grogu liked to call it). It just wasn’t fair. 

Din Djarin said the vid had a lot of violence, a lot of swearing, an excessive number of adult situations (whatever that meant), nudity, and use of tobacco products. Grogu had shrugged at him. He was used to the violence and the swearing, of course Mandalorians didn’t use tobacco products given their use of helmets, he didn't really care about nudity because people were people, and he just had no idea what ‘adult situations’ were (probably something about intergalactic  tax policy).

“Grogu, you’re just not old enough to go to a film like that. It’s as simple as that.”

The Mandalorian had put his hand on his hip, tipped his head to one side, and gave Grogu what he could only assume was a stern look. 

Grogu sighed. His dad had a point. Some vids did require that people were a certain age before they could watch them. The folks who made them were forced to put warnings on them because parents didn’t make sure that their kids understood how vids were all make believe and other parents worried that children would be frightened or harmed in some other way if they actually saw or heard any of that stuff. It was weird, but then plenty of things on Earth were weird.

The vid age thing varied from country to country. None of the requirements applied if you played the vid at home, unless you had a dad like Din Djarin. Sometimes it was different things that made a vid restricted. Apparently it was worse to show nudity than to swear and you could get away with more violence if it was presented in a funny manner. 

Then, in a bunch of places you actually had to go to those older ratings vids with your parents or guardians. That had cut down on a huge number of vids for Grogu once the Mandalorian made it clear to the local theater owners that Pedro was not Grogu’s guardian and neither was Jon. Grogu had tried to argue that he wanted to see Oppenheimer for work purposes solely, but his actual dad was not buying that one minute. Instead they went and saw Barbie. It was rated PG-13, while Oppenheimer had been rated R. 

That one had confused the heck out of Grogu. Sure watching people create atomic bombs was bad and there had been language and nudity and some biological activities among the human cast members, but Barbie was about the actual treatment of half the planets population. One of those subjects was actually a lot ‘heavier’ than the other. 

This only happened when they were visiting the Milkyway Galaxy and particularly on the planet Earth. When they were back in their home galaxy it was hard to imagine a vid having more questionable content than the interior of any Outer Rim cantina. He had tried to explain that to his dad, but Din Djarin wasn't having any of it.

“Grogu, one of the conditions of you participating in these entertainments was your agreement to be a good role model for the children on this planet. They see you as one of them. You’re their hero. You don't want to let them down by breaking rules that are so easy to follow, do you? Is that the Way?”

Dank Farrik! That was not the Way. He liked visiting with his fans. He loved all the things they did for him. They sang songs for him, painted pictures of him, and even wrote up imaginary adventures for him to go on with his dad and their friends. He realized how privileged he was.  He really did. 

On the other hand, even Pedro had seen Wolverine and Deadpool already and said he hoped that the Fantastic Four would be just as popular. Grogu wished him luck with that. If it didn’t do as well they’d never hear the end of it from Ryan. That guy was so competitive. You’d think it was all some sort of game to him. He’d already sent Grogu a postcard with Dogpool on it, sitting on top of a podium marked ‘Number 1’. On it Ryan (obviously) wrote a brief ‘Wish you were here’ and ‘X O X O’, whatever that meant. That just annoyed Grogu a little tiny bit more. Peggy, who played ‘Dogpool’, was cute and was going to all the interviews and other events for the movie and she was only five years old. Of course that was much older when you figured out the dog years conversion…

Wait just one minute! Grogu was over fifty standard years old. He had an Old Republic ID card that showed that! The Mandalorian couldn’t stop him from going to see his favorite superheroes, who weren't exactly like heroes, but he liked them anyway. Grogu was older than Din Djarin! Ha! He couldn’t wait to call an Uber. He was going to see a vid and he just hoped he hadn't missed out on those cool popcorn buckets!

First image is the newest from May 2nd 2024, second is the former from June 13th 2022, and the third is the original cover from January 13th 2021.

Some notes/complaints about the old cover was that people couldn't tell what was going on or who the featured character was. That has now been fixed! You should be tell who it is, hopefully!

I was originally going to make this new cover night time featuring Silverpelt (or the Milkyway) because of the title, but I severely overestimated my skillset after a few hours of attempts so I went for the next best thing: beautiful sunset just like the last two covers! Honestly, I'm a sucker for them. Just can't resist! Hope you enjoy this!

NEW EPISODE: Episode 12: It’s one of most well-known and beautiful space pictures ever. It’s the Pillars of Creation within the Eagle Nebula, or M16. This famous photo was captured by the Hubble Space Telescope, but few know that this image was a comeback of sorts for Hubble.

When Hubble was first launched, it sent back blurry photos due to an optical error in the lens. So, plans were devised and set into motion to try and tune Hubble up. How could they fix the problem with Hubble already up in space?

This is not only the story of the Hubble Space Telescopes triumphant return from its blurry beginnings and how the issues were fixed, but the story of how this image—located some 7000 light-years away—was captured via methods you may not know about.
