Tips for romance as a system

Romance can be hard, especially when you're someone who's actually multiple someone's. Below the cuts, I've listed some tips for those who are interested in romance/are already in a relationship but are struggling because they're systems. This is a very brief post with few tips.

1. Discussion ‧₊˚⊹‧₊˚⊹

As a system/collective/whatever you identify you and your idiots as, the first thing you should do is tell the person you're talking to romantically that you are plural. It's important that they know that you're part of a system as they could interact with someone else from the system and become confused and worried.

If you're already in a relationship but haven't told your partner/partners, sit down with them and tell them. Tell them why you didn't immediately tell them/tell them earlier. If they're upset, then that's okay. It's perfectly reasonable that they'd be upset that something as important as plurality wasn't told to them long ago.

2. Introduce ‧₊˚⊹‧₊˚⊹

Tell them about the other's in your system. Whether it be giving them your Simply Plural or simply giving a list that's simply name, age, pronouns, role, and something extra and optional like source, gender, orientation, and whether they identify as something other than human. It's also important to bring up if any headmates have specific needs or conditions, disorders, or syndromes such as tell your partner/partners if one of your headmates is a mobility aid user and needs a cane so if that headmate fronts, your partner/partners will know to help them get their cane.

This can also be helpful for nonhuman alters who behave in certain ways because of their nonhumanity or for alters with trauma that may be aggressive, paranoid, or jumpy. Also tell them about littles and middles so they know to not act inappropriately around them. It's also very important to mention positive, neutral, and negative triggers so your partner/partners know that if someone fronts, the reason behind it is either positive, neutral, or negative.

3. Labels ‧₊˚⊹‧₊˚⊹

It's also extremely important that you specify that certain headmates use certain terms, especially if it's regarding neopronouns and how they're used. It's also important if a headmate has disconnected from their source (changed identity to be away from source) so they know that using the headmates previous name or pronouns can be upsetting.

4. Behavior ‧₊˚⊹‧₊˚⊹

Certain headmates can act certain ways, whether that be their natural personality, a personal preference, or because of a condition, disorder, or syndrome. This is important to mention because a headmate could act very erratic which could cause your partner/partners to become uncomfortable and very worried and it's best to make sure that they know that nothing is wrong and this is simply normal for this headmate.
