Leviathan
nobody ever talks about Livyatan Melvillei (named after the biblical Leviathan and author Herman Melville), my favourite murder-whale:

this fellow, with the teeth, comes from an extinct group of sperm whales that scientists refer to as "mega-raptorial" or "hyper-predatory", because they're not allowed to call them "the bloody-jawed terrors of the ancient deeps".
but I can.
look at that skull, those jaws. those teeth are the largest of any toothed predator ever. that guy ate everything.
Livyatan shared an ocean with Otodus megalodon, but Livyatan was only a bit smaller*, was smarter (I can't find exact figures, but a brain maybe 4-5 times the size of a human), and if they hunted in packs like orcas - they're so big that they probably didn't, but MY GOD - then even somewhat-grown megalodon could have potentially been on the menu.
* the exact size of megalodon is uncertain! Livyatan was likely almost as big as a modern sperm whale.
but mostly Livyatan would have fed on baleen whales, and assorted smaller prey. and it would have needed to eat a LOT.
in modern sperm whales the spermaceti organ (melon) that fits in the weird scoop visible on the top of the skull can produce focused sonar waves louder than a jet engine - potentially loud enough to harm or even kill a human diver. the organ and the surrounding skull are also structured to allow ramming attacks - pissed-off sperm whales have sunk boats five times their own mass. Livyatan didn't have as impressive a dome, but would still have had powerful echolocation, and also appears to have had adaptations for ramming, because I guess that sometimes it got bored of murdering with its teeth alone.
tl;dr we are only able to go in the oceans because the rightful owners died out at the end of the Miocene when they ran out of things to murder. also we should probably be nicer to our contemporary sperm whale species in case they ever decide to evolve back.

Do you like Eurovision?
Of course you do
Would you like to read a book whose plot is basically Eurovision in space?
Of course you would
Allow me to introduce...
Space Opera by Catherynne M. Valente is exactly that: Eurovision in space. It's called the Metagalactic Grand Prix, and it's an intergalactic song contest where all sapient species must sing. After a huge war almost tore the galaxy apart they came up with the Metagalactic Grand Prix in order to bring everyone together in the spirit of peace. Yes, just like in Eurovision. The Metagalactic Grand Prix is meant to foment unity and understanding. It's also and all out galactic glittery extravaganza. And it's also how they decide if a species is sapient or not (after all, music is a language that we all know how to speak*). This year humanity is brought into the intergalactic stage, and our sapience is in question, so we gotta send our best to space Eurovision to prove we don't deserve to be wiped out. Our best, however, happen to be dead or unavailable, so the chosen ones end up being a one-hit-wonder glamrock band called Decibel Jones and the Absolute Zeroes. But everything should be fine, right? After all, all they need to do to save Earth is... not end up in last place and avoid being killed until the actual show starts.
This book is a fun, glittery space opera (ba dum tss) filled with Eurovision references (the chapters are all titled after Eurovision songs!) that is an absolute must-read for any Eurovision fans
*Yes, that's a direct quote from the 2016 Eurovision Interval Act song Story of ESC (What is Eurovision?), sung by Måns Zelmerlöw and Petra Mede

M100 — Mirror Galaxy
youtube
We cannot see our own Galaxy — the Milky Way — from the outside, and there is nothing we can do with this. But we can look at other galaxies — more or less similar to our star city, and draw indirect conclusions about its structure. Fortunately, there are plenty of galaxies around us suitable for such study.
One of these galaxies — very similar to the Milky Way, at least in appearance, is the M100 galaxy, also known as NGC 4321, or as the “Mirror Galaxy” (not to be confused with the popular smartphone from Samsung!)
If someone intelligent from the M100 galaxy and equipped with a suitable optical instrument looked in our direction, it is quite possible that they would see the same thing that we see — practically their own reflection (perhaps that is why they called this galaxy “Mirror”). But it is worth making a clarification that our Galaxy is slightly more populated with stars (more than 200 billion) than its “mirror image” (about 100 billion stars). But both galaxies are almost equal in size — about 100 thousand light years across.
M100 has an intermediate position between those galaxies that we consider close and those that are considered already very distant. There are approximately 55 million light years of intergalactic void between us. But still, from such a distance, astronomers managed to resolve the outer regions of the spiral arms into individual stars, and find among them several variable stars — Cepheids, and from the Cepheids they were already able to determine the distance to the “Mirror Galaxy”. It does not correspond to the one previously determined by its redshift — the error was approximately 2 times. And this once again warns us that the speed of galaxy receding is a Universal trend, and not a strict law, and we can only rely on this amazing phenomenon on a metagalactic scale.
Looking at the M100 galaxy, we see one of the largest galaxies in the Virgo cluster, although cartographically this galaxy is located in the constellation Coma Berenices, but not far from the border with Virgo, and galaxies and their clusters know nothing about our constellations and their boundaries, because all the stars of our constellations belong to our Galaxy — the Milky Way. It turns out that all other galaxies are located behind all the constellations… but this is, well, a philosophical digression.
There is another cluster of galaxies in the constellation Coma Berenices — it is even called a Supercluster. But it is several times farther from us than the Virgo cluster (which contains the heroine of today’s story — the M100 galaxy), and is several times more populated by galaxies that, in ground-based and space telescopes, no longer break up into individual stars — they are much more difficult for us to study . And the galaxies of the Virgo cluster (and in particular the “Mirror Galaxy”) are still quite simple to study. And this is not surprising, because we ourselves — the Milky Way Galaxy and the surrounding Local Group Galaxies — also belong to the Virgo cluster. True, it is believed that we “live” on the very edge of this agglomeration of stellar cities.
The M100 galaxy has been known to humanity for just over two centuries. Its discoverer is considered to be the French astronomer Pierre Mechain, who was only a month ahead of Charles Messier with the discovery of this nebulous-looking object. For telescopes of that time, this was an object close to the limit of visibility. And for a long time, astronomers could not discern anything but a foggy spot here. Nowadays this galaxy is accessible for observation with the simplest telescopes. But to discern its spiral structure, you need a professional instrument, and dividing it into individual stars (and then only in places) is only possible with such powerful observational instruments as the Hubble Space Telescope and the James Webb SpaceTelescope.
However, over the last century, this galaxy has pleased astronomers with numerous supernova explosions, which provided additional information about this galaxy and made it possible to clarify the distance to it. According to various sources, during this period from 5 to 7 supernovae were observed here — this is almost a record frequency of outbreaks… although this may just be luck.
At the same time, the galaxy M100 has very high core activity, which apparently indicates the presence of a supermassive black hole. According to some estimates, its mass can be about 5 million solar masses — this practically corresponds to the mass of the black hole that exists in the center of the Milky Way. But our galactic black hole is “dormant,” and the “mirror” one has awakened and is actively absorbing interstellar gas and dust, partially spewing it outward, creating a strong “stellar wind” that drives a shock wave ahead of itself. The immediate consequences of such activity are very active star formation (maybe that’s why there are many supernovae in a row — this is an echo of its beginning, when many suddenly born giant stars have already completed their stellar journey). The more distant consequences of the activity of the galactic core will lead to the depletion of hydrogen in the “Mirror Galaxy”, and star formation in it will come to naught.
The M100 galaxy has at least two companion dwarf elliptical galaxies, which makes it similar to the Andromeda Galaxy. Although, in this case, most likely, these satellites in the past had their own spiral branches, but were mercilessly gnawed by the strong gravity of the “Mirror Galaxy”.
The video attached to this post is based on amateur astrophotography by Drew Evans. This image was voted “best astrophotography of the day” on May 2, 2024.

A century ago, the Sentience Wars tore the galaxy apart and nearly ended the entire concept of intelligent space-faring life. In the aftermath, a curious tradition was invented-something to cheer up everyone who was left and bring the shattered worlds together in the spirit of peace, unity, and understanding.
Once every cycle, the civilizations gather for the Metagalactic Grand Prix – part gladiatorial contest, part beauty pageant, part concert extravaganza, and part continuation of the wars of the past. Instead of competing in orbital combat, the powerful species that survived face off in a competition of song, dance, or whatever can be physically performed in an intergalactic talent show. The stakes are high for this new game, and everyone is forced to compete.
This year, though, humankind has discovered the enormous universe. And while they expected to discover a grand drama of diplomacy, gunships, wormholes, and stoic councils of aliens, they have instead found glitter, lipstick and electric guitars. Mankind will not get to fight for its destiny – they must sing.
A one-hit-wonder band of human musicians, dancers and roadies from London – Decibel Jones and the Absolute Zeroes – have been chosen to represent Earth on the greatest stage in the galaxy. And the fate of their species lies in their ability to rock.

REVIEW: Space Oddity by Catherynne M. Valente
Series: Space Opera #2
Published: September 2024, Simon & Schuster (Saga Press)
Genres: Science Fiction / Space Opera, Science Fiction / Alien Contact, Science Fiction / Humorous
Summary: The Metagalactic Grand Prix—part gladiatorial contest, part beauty pageant, part concert extravaganza, and part continuation of the wars of the past returns and the fate of the Earth is once again threatened. The civilizations opposed to humanity have been plotting and want to take down the upstarts. Can humanity rise again in this sequel to the beloved Hugo Award–nominated national bestselling Space Opera by New York Times bestselling author Catherynne M. Valente?
This review contains spoilers for the ending of Space Opera and minor spoilers for Space Oddity.
Truthfully speaking, I didn’t find myself with a burning need for a sequel when I finished reading Space Opera—yet Space Oddity remained one of my most anticipated books of 2024, if only because I had total faith in Catherynne M. Valente to deliver Good Vibes and/or Hilarious Insanity like no other author.
In this sequel that’s lowkey a meta commentary on the nature of sequels (“This time it will be different!”), we return to the Metagalactic Grand Prix, an intergalactic Eurovision-esque singing competition between countless species that determines everything from trade deals to resource allocations to potential wars to music chart-toppers.
Last year, humanity eked out a respectable tenth place in our first showing. This year, we’ve graduated from newbie, and soon become escort to a newly discovered species.
Where other novels may treat the Dreaded Exposition like a concert opener—quality may vary from offensively bad to mildly boring to surprisingly delightful, but nevertheless it’s the thing you have to sit through to get to the thing you actually paid money for—subtly weaving it through the text so as not to drag down the pace or distract from the plot, Valente’s exposition is the headlining star of the show—all the bloody intergalactic history and weird alien biology and that one ranting monologue about the Frankenstein monster that is the English language, sketched in run-on sentences that can span a whole paragraph, if not multiple pages.
While I was thoroughly amused by Valente’s bombastically stylistic writing (and her ability to build entire alien societies around a single pun), the absolute heart of this book for me is the Absolute Zeroes.
Good News: While lead singer Decibel Jones is the frontman of the band and the book, Space Oddity is actually, stealthily, a story about Fridged Woman–turned-paradox Mira Wonderful Star, and any time spent with Mira Wonderful Star is, well, Wonderful. It’s especially touching when Valente contrasts Dess’s washed-up ennui about placing tenth in the Grand Prix with Mira’s punk-hope enthusiasm about touring and exploring the galaxy.
Bad news: I probably took at least half a star off when I learned that Oort St. Ultraviolet, man-of-every-instrument and my favourite Absolute Zero, is relegated to a background character. (We’ve had a Decibel and Oort book. We’ve had a Decibel and Mira book. Am I wishing for a third book that’s all Mira and Oort? Yes.)
Space Oddity is an glitter-filled, imaginative romp that matches the frenetic energy of its predecessor. Valente’s maximalist writing style makes even the dullest topic (e.g. a never-ending intergalactic meeting that could’ve been an email) a sensory and humorous delight. But while Space Opera skillfully married the Absolute Zeroes’ sordid histories and personal hang-ups with grand intergalactic stakes, the finale of Oddity didn’t quite pack the same emotional punch—though, I’ll admit, I audibly gasped and shook my fist at the sky (affectionate) when I read that reveal about the Empty.

Kantarians

The Mother Arc of Covenant Stargate system was purposed for the transiting of an assortment of stuck or damaged consciousness bodies through the Aqua portals, in order to begin the foundations for rebuilding the KA-TA-RA Kantarian Dragon ring portal system.
Our Universe was invaded when the 8D layers of the Metagalactic Core were attacked by black hole entities that are a fallen species that hybridized with advanced AI technological systems, many of whom joined together later on to form the NAA. Obviously, given Ezekiel’s placement as a Christos Solar Rod principle in the Universal architecture as an Amethyst Order Dragon King along with his Gaian Kantarian spiritual family identity, he fell along with the rest of angelic humanity with his consciousness body parts strewn across many dimensions.
Ezekiel’s individual identity had access to his Amethyst Order Holy Father Kantarian solar dragon body memories from Gaia. Ezekiel’s Amethyst Order Father of Dragons Kantarian body became embedded in the Earth as the result of the Electric Wars and Fall of the Gaian Matrix, in which the advanced AI beast machinery from the black hole system had infected the 8D Galactic Core.

Alright obviously the plot has to include a journey around the (eurovision) world. Undertaken by a ragtag group of humans and aliens looking for someone to replace Decibel Jones and the Absolute Zeroes in the next Metagalactic Grand Prix
Anyway I'm tempted to nominate "Tausend Fenster" for Austria but I'll leave that decision to the followers and mutuals-in-law who might have more informed opinions
youtube
hey tumblr let's make a eurovision jukebox musical, one song from each country, no winners allowed
I don't know the plot yet but on behalf of Norway I nominate this glorious quintessence of the eighties
youtube
#look I think it might slot nicely into some kind of plot#anyway read space opera by#catherynne m. valente#if we do go with the aliens or even just humans obviously they end up being the band against all odds and intentions#eurovision#Youtube

Regulus Starseeds (The Family of Archangel Raphael)

Starseed's are advanced hybrid human beings that originate as a celestial light source of consciousness from star systems outside of our solar sun, representing the expansional extraterrestrial hosted platforms of their consciousness, and capacities to hold greater missions on Earth not defined by human limitations.
*Regulus Starseeds*
Regulus is one of the most notable fixed stars out of the four fixed Royal stars of Persia called The Watchers.
Regulus runs along the Leo degrees and is known as the "Watcher of the North" since this origin sits North and center of the equatorial plane.
This origin is apart of the guardian consciousness and holds the ARC portal system which allows other origins to enter in and out of our time matrix from the metagalactic core.
Regulus is the direct soul origin and lineage of Archangel Raphael (no wonder Leo's are so confident and proud! <3) This origin is called The Holy Healer; embodying the traits of expanded heart consciousness, clearing for the collective, communion, Earth force, empathy, forgiveness, acceptance, and compassion.
If this is your origin- Archangel Raphael has incarnated within you and will be your guide and strength during this lifetime. This radial light signature will accompany you throughout your entire incarnation until your life contract is up.
This origin was the most influential during the 1st seedings of Atlantis.
Blessed with qualities of self-worth, intelligence, strategy, status, ambition, skill, and abundance.
A very wise Starseed origin; expressing the strategy of Mercury, the pride of the Sun, and maternal love from Hydra along the equatorial plane of Gaia.
This origins guiding celestial source is the original star of power. They possess the qualities of power, status, ambition, pride, beauty, vanity, intelligence, strategy, psychic gifts, and royalty.
They have a powerful bloodline. More so than any other Starseed origin, and they are highly and powerfully protected by their ancestors in the spirit/psychic realms.
Many Regulus Starseeds are also of Hydra origin and many have Hydra ancestors in the spirit realms. Lmao, do not piss off the Hydra ancestors. Anyone who crosses a Regulus Starseed receives instant karma.
The collective mission of a Regulus Starseed origin is more so about embracing their power and confidence. While doing this they shine a light on the collective in the form of energetic wavelengths and this helps others also embrace their own power and confidence. Every origin holds a mission towards healing humanity and this is that of a Regulus Starseed. This is an Archangel origin so they are extremely powerful warrior spirits. Embracing their own power gives power to others and ultimately- this is their own power.
*Side Notes*
This origin is among the rarest of Starseed origins currently incarnated. (Yes, Leo's - you're rare! So stand up proud.) This origin is among the least common next to the Sagittarius A Incarnates. It's not about the zodiac sign Leo as much as it is the degrees in which this origin runs. There's a short degree window to be of true Regulus origin.
Archangel Michael is represented by the zodiac sign Leo. Some believe that this origin is actually a hybrid origin of Michael/Raphael. Some also believe that this is Michael's/The Blue Rays/Aldebaran origin and that there was some sort of mix up. Aldebaran (The Blue Rays/The Family of Archangel Michael) is said to run along the Taurus degrees. But some believe that it is Raphael that runs along the Taurus degrees instead, and Michael along the Leo. Part of this does make sense. Everything Michael stands for screams Leo/Regulus energy. Everything Raphael stands for screams Taurus energy. However, one of the reasons that The Blue Rays were given their name is because they are also of Pleiadean lineage. Pleiades runs along the Aries/Taurus degrees. So, really this is just a theory. Whatever resonates best with you.
This origin is known for being tall in height. All Archangel origins are known for this, though.
Surprisingly, they're known for having a darker vibe. Despite being ruled by the Sun. Similar to Hydra though, their darker vibe is exterior and they're all light within.
I'd assume they're less traumatized than Hydra origins though. Regulus origins have worked through most of the generational trauma/curses of Hydra Starseeds, so they're a bit more evolved in this way when it comes to balancing out their light and darkness. This is especially true if both Hydra and Regulus origins are present in the chart. Unless Hydra is placed in the 12th house; then some healing needs to be done. The 12th house shows you where you need to heal within your planets, but it also connects you to higher dimensions through origins placed here.
Do you have a Regulus origin in your chart? If so, where is it located? Note below! Mine's found in my Western chart, aligned with my Sun, Rising, and Moon.
For business inquiries and Starseed origin readings please email [email protected] ! I accept paypal/venmo and do not require payment until after the reading.
*Starseed origin chart readings are as follows*
Full Inner Planetary Starseed Origin Reading: for $30 you will receive a list of each Starseed origin that is found within your astrological planets (along with any alignments found within your North/South Node, Lilith, Chiron, ASC, Midheaven, Fortune, Vertex, ect.) . You will also receive a full detailed description of where each Starseed origin is located at in your natal chart and what this means for you; along with a detailed description of the meaning behind each Starseed origin, including pictures. For this reading it is required that you provide your exact time and date of birth (M/D/Y) along with birth location. I will use this information and provide you with your alignments based on both your Sidereal/Vedic and Tropical/Western Astrology charts. The timing for this reading can range anywhere between 1-3 days due to the thoroughness of the reading.
Half Inner Planetary Starseed Origin Reading: for $20 you will receive a list of each Starseed origin that is found within your astrological planets (along with any alignments found within your North/South Node, Lilith, Chiron, ASC, Midheaven, Fortune, Vertex, ect.) along with a detailed description of the meaning behind each Starseed origin, including pictures. You will not receive a detailed description of where each origin is located and what it means for you as you would with the Full Inner Planetary Starseed Origin Reading. For this reading it is also required that you provide your exact time and date of birth (M/D/Y) along with your birth location. I will use this information and provide you with your alignments based on both your Sidereal/Vedic and Tropical/Western Astrology charts. The timing for this reading is usually within the same day requested.
Planetary Degree and House Origin Reading: for $30 you will receive a list of each Starseed origin that is found in your astrological chart along with a detailed description of the meaning behind each Starseed origin, including pictures. This reading will tell you what Starseed origin your planets are connected to through house/degree placements. (Ex: having Mars in Cancer to the 29 degree means that your Mars is in alignment with Hydra. Having Mars in Cancer to the 29 degree while also having Mars in 12th house means that Mars is now overlapping the Andromeda Starseed origin as the Andromeda Galaxy is connected to the 12th house and runs along 29 degree Aquarius before moving into Pisces. Meaning that since Mars is positioned in the 12th house while also being in 29 degree Cancer, Mars is in alignment with both Hydra and Andromeda.) For this reading it is also required that you provide your exact time and date of birth (M/D/Y) along with your birth location. I will use this information and provide you with your alignments based on both your Sidereal/Vedic and Tropical/Western Astrology charts. The timing for this reading is usually within the same day requested.
Astrological House and Planetary Aspect Starseed Origin Reading: for $50 you will receive a list of each Starseed origin that is found throughout your astrological houses (house 1-12) and planetary aspects (ex: Jupiter trine Neptune, with Jupiter being in alignment with Aldebaran/The Blue Rays (The Family of Archangel Michael) and Neptune being in alignment with Lyra) along with a detailed description behind what each house/planetary aspect origin represents and the meaning behind each Starseed origin, including pictures. For this reading it is also required that you provide your exact time and date of birth (M/D/Y) along with your birth location. I will use this information and provide you with your alignments based on both your Sidereal/Vedic and Tropical/Western Astrology charts. The timing for this reading can range anywhere between 1-3 days due to the thoroughness of the reading.
Full Starseed Origin Chart Reading: for $80 this is a combination of the Full Inner Planetary Origin Reading, Planetary Degree/House, and the Astrological House and Planetary Aspect Origin reading. All information listed above for both readings will be included in this one.
