Mermaids are wild, untamable things.  The stories all say so.  And Anakin is by far the wildest thing she has ever known.  He swims in storms and sails like he has no fear of drowning.

Question! Do you make the songs you sing or do you sing pre-existing songs?

Also would you be considered a freshwater siren since you live in a lake or do sirens only live in freshwater? I know that mermaids can survive even in pool water (thanks Mermando) but is it the same for sirens?

Hello Cy! I’ll try my best to answer your questions.

Siren songs are passed down throughout our generations. Mostly they’re sung in our own native languages, but we have a few songs in Greek from our ancestors who lived in the Mediterranean Sea. They would tell us these wonderful stories of sailors who would yearn for their song!

Many fish can survive in both salt and fresh water! Sirens and Mermaids tend to be closely related to those fish. I am a euryhaline organism, which means I am able to adapt to a wide range of salinities (Stanford taught me this)! I personally prefer freshwater.

I do not like unicorns, personally. They are rude and snarky creatures. They don’t come by much so I’ve only had one or two experiences, but Stanford recalled his journey to become “pure of heart” to me. I am unsure how he believed the very obvious scam he was falling into…

Sisters…

Younger Ursula, Triton, and Morgana

I read that in earlier drafts, Ursula was planned to be Triton’s sister. I like to imagine she was actually the oldest sibling, but since Triton was the one who looked the most like a regular mermaid, the crown was passed onto him instead. Morgana, being the youngest of the three, probably knew she never had a legitimate chance at the crown — if Triton wasn’t fit to rule and had no suitable heirs, the throne would revert back to Ursula again — so instead she followed in her sister’s non-existent footsteps early on (Triton, meanwhile, would probably be too focused on his royal duties to give his younger sister the time of day, further pushing Morgana in Ursula’s direction)

Assuming Ursula and Morgana didn’t turn heel (heh) until after Triton had a kid or two, odds are at least one of Ariel’s oldest sisters wished she had multiple tentacles like her cool aunts as a kid
