It's quite nice being back on tumblr, I must say.
I've always offered support and whatnot, and that started before I even joined tumblr.
But being back here reminds me of how it was this space that really got me into it
And tbh, if it wasn't for tumblr I may not have come to the decision to really pursue a career in mental health in such a way. I definitely wouldn't have been willing to say fuck it to the traditional therapy route and begin building my own mental wellness consultancy business.
I used to regularly share posts offering an ear, advice, guidance, support - whatever people required. And people really started to take me up on that. I was given the opportunity to really help people. Some more significantly than others, but either way I was having a positive impact.
That people placed their trust in me, I will always be grateful for, because of them I got the confirmation that I am adept at handling sensitive matters and having a positive impact.
In over a decade of offering support in various ways, I have never had anyone come back to me with anything other than gratitude.
So yeah. I owe tumblr, specifically, the tumblr community a lot.

Not well!
Since Cain's so set on protecting Sydney from people who try to hurt them he'd probably immediately feel guilty for 'letting' Sydney fall victim to the other people of the town- even though he probably has very little; if any relation to the corruption. There's also his concern that Sydney may become 'like them' (other civilians) which he's very ashamed over and won't acknowledge.
He'd probably worry himself to a stomach ulcer because he's agonising over what happened so much, but at the end of the day- Corrupt Sydney is still Sydney. A bit more fucked up and manipulative sure but Sydney.
Not gonna lie- Cain would totally fall for Sydney's lies and shit even if he's meant to see through it for the first few times (even light hearted ones like the handcuff scene in sirrus' shop). He can't help it okay :[. He's not stupid but he's... kind of gullible when it comes to his (very few) friends and trusts Sydney more than anybody else in rapechestershire. I'm mentioning this because of Sydney's whole 'you made me like this' thing they seem to have. And yes, I know it's the pc's fault but shut your goddamn mouth I'm hijacking this bus.
He'd also become a bit more paranoid(??) around Sydney because hell if Sydney lies to him once then what's saying they won't do it again?? And there's also his very very present sexual trauma and repulsion so god forbid Sydney makes ANY kind of advances on him because he will freak out and quite possibly run away only to return days later. If that doesn't happen because he physically can't run away for whatever reason he might cry.
Regardless, it'd cause a massive rift in their relationship despite their best efforts due to Cain's own self-inflicted alienation and such. It could be fixed but it'd take a lot of time and negotiation. And communication. Which Cain happens to be terrible at.
It sucks but he'd have to be fucking 30 years out of dolville and with an ungodly amount of therapy sessions under his metaphorical belt before he can begin to stomach corrupt Sydney.

Eleventh Doctor Chronicles: Sins of the Flesh is really good. Really really good. Experience with certain attitudes can be so isolating, surrounded by people who won’t bother to understand the impact of growing up in that environment (because the world's so progressive now, right), and so — I'm so glad it exists. I also liked the discussion in the interview commentary about how being a monster and doing monstrous things are not mutually exclusive. Like most things, homophobia is pervasive because it is structural. Religious fervor is not inherently bad — “your god is love,” Valarie says to Lily — but as soon as hellfire is brandished around, it's used routinely to empower monstrous things, in a way that becomes unsafe to debate. Especially for young & dependent people who can't escape it.
Conditional love. Moral panics. Purity culture. Self-hate. Mob mentality. This audio. It's timely.
I appreciated what they said in the interviews about not only about the research, but the four rounds of sensitivity readings. I wish the TV show had that level of care sometimes…

#tw disordered eating#personal#i have a consultation appt coming up soon with a bariatric weight loss program and i’m v nervy#i’ve always been fat and fairly unhealthy bc i didn’t have access to good food growing up (bc poor)#but i also struggle with self-control/impulse control because… obviously#so i binge a lot and then feel really bad afterwards (physically and mentally) but i struggle to tell myself no#so i go through periods where like one day i’ll eat absolutely nothing at all to punish myself & the next i’ll binge until i’m sick#but no psychiatrist has ever wanted to diagnose me with an eating disorder because… well… the psychiatrists in my area aren’t great…#and i’m fat…. so i don’t fit their idea of what someone with an eating disorder should look like#so i’ve never been able to get treatment for my disordered eating#so i’m excited about my consultation…#but i’m also nervous that i won’t be able to actually lose the weight#because most of my family has the same type of disordered eating#and they grew up poor so they don’t have the best idea of nutrition nor do they currently have the means to afford good food (still poor)#so regardless of what information i’m given#my family is likely going to continue to buy the same tempting unhealthy foods#and i just don’t trust myself :/#also i’m not sure if my insurance will cover my appointment if the clinic chooses to take me on as a patient#so i could literally just be told that yeah i’m overweight and i clearly need help but i can’t get help because insurance#which wouldn’t do anything for me except for make me feel 1000x worse about my current situation#but also i’m so tired of feeling/being this way#not necessarily being fat but being unhealthy and feeling like i don’t have control over my own impulses and actions…#like i don’t have the power to stop myself from binging#it’s just very frustrating and really taking a toll on me#sorry for the rant#but life is a lot for me right now#and i can’t talk to anyone in my family about this because they’ll think i’m a danger to myself#(aka going to off myself) & they’ll take me to the hospital & then i’ll have to go in inpatient again (i haven’t been inpatient since 14/15)#& i really just don’t want to deal with that because like… that’s not what’s happening here#tw mental instability
