Top 5 books about found family
Hello friends!! Welcome to Top 5 Tuesday!! This week’s topic is top 5 books about found family!! Found family is one of those magical plot devices to give characters the family they need, but didn’t get. It builds them up to become more well-rounded, while providing them an opportunity to be vulnerable with someone. Or multiple someones. Plus sometimes it’s just really nice to see people come…

They moved imperceptibly closer to each other as though drawn together by a string connecting them. Jack hadn’t noticed that the thread of her face was a different color from the string that held together the rest of her body. Or that beneath her autumn-leaf scent, she also smelled of oleander. There was so much he didn’t know about Sally, but he wanted to…

Tumblr media
Plot
Jack Skellington is the beloved Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, but he has grown tired of leading the usual scares every year. Then he stumbles upon a mysterious tree-shaped door deep in the Hinterlands and falls straight into Christmas Town–an enchanting place like no other, full of sparkling snow, merry elves, and twinkling lights.
Reinvigorated, Jack returns to Halloween Town and recruits the citizens into his new plan: to organize Christmas themselves! But even with aid from his loyal dog Zero and the resourceful rag doll Sally, challenges lurk around every corner. Sally sees a terrible vision of Jack falling into danger, and the mysterious Oogie Boogie hides in the shadows. Will Jack’s dream of creating the perfect Christmas come true . . . or is it destined to become an utter nightmare?
Discussion
This is the perfect read to kick off spooky season! I absolutely loved it- what else can I say?? Now my favorite movie has a novel, and this bookworm couldn't be happier!

Title: The Cage
Author: Megan Shepherd
Series or standalone: series
Publication year: 2015
Genres: fiction, science fiction, dystopia, romance, mystery
Blurb: When Cora Mason wakes in a desert, she doesn't know where she is or who put her there. As she explores, she finds an impossible mix of environments: tundra next to desert, farm next to jungle, and a strangely empty town cobbled together from different cultures, all watched over by eery black windows...and she isn't alone. Four other teenagers have also been taken: a beautiful model, a tattooed smuggler, a secretive genius, and an army brat who seems to know too much about Cora's past. None of them have a clue as to what happened, and all of them have secrets. As the unlikely group struggles for leadership, they slowly start to trust each other...but when their mysterious jailer appears - a handsome young guard called Cassian - they realise that their captivity is more terrifying than they could ever imagine. Their captors aren't from Earth, and they have taken the five teenagers for an otherworldly zoo...where the exhibits are humans.

Malice House by Megan Shepherd
This one didn't do much for me. It read more like a thriller than a horror, which wasn't exactly how it was portrayed. The premise reminded me of Inkheart, if it were aged up and made scarier. The pacing also felt off to me, and the revelations about characters' pasts felt weirdly placed. I didn't hate the read, it just wasn't for me.

Fall Horror Books: Malice House
Malice House by Megan Shepherd is the perfect horror book for those who love their horror mixed in with a little fantasy and supernatural. For horror writers and artists of macabre, maybe our worst nightmare is seeing our work come alive and do what it was created to do: kill in the most gruesome of ways. I received Malice House last year when I was in the middle of taking a course at Conde…

I just want to say, as a member of the PCA, Revoice is an utter ugly stain on my denomination and everyone involved in its inception should’ve been put under discipline a long time ago, and the leaders expelled from ministry. they are wolves in sheep’s clothing. “Spiritual Friendships” are a trap set by Satan.

The boy peered into the box. He would have screamed if what he saw there hadn’t been less frightening than the nightmarish thing dressed in a Santa suit that had delivered it. He pulled out a shrunken head.
