You are on a roller coaster. The roller coaster is labeled as an intense horror experience. You saw the preview for it and thought it was the standard horror experience.
The roller coaster starts humming. The lift chain grabs the car. You are off. You climb up a hill. The hill is dark, as if you are in a Stephen King story. It’s somewhat familiar. You approach the first drop. It’s not as steep. It’s a jump scare. Spoiler alert. Not really. It’s a dream sequence. Things happen. Stuff occurs. Plot thickens. I know. Get to the point. Here’s something interesting, though. The horror experience we thought we were in curves into Quentin Tarantino territory. What?!? Yeah! Wasn’t expecting that!
But.
Wait.
As we twist,
and,
turn,
in our coaster,
we remember that we are still in a horror experience
(and)

back
into
Stephen King land.
We hang around there for a bit. We unease. Not you. We. Us. We all speed up a hill and drop down into the nightmare fuel that is: the Evil Dead. We laugh. A LOT!!! We say WHAT THE FUCK, A LOT!!!
That is the very essence of ‘Weapons.’ And no, that doesn’t give it away. But it does prepare you that it is a roller coaster ride. And it is fucking awesome. Second favorite film of the year.
