i am jealous of when dnd parties all sleep in the same bed or room or cave or home. when they are all best friends and just sleeping and watching over each other and staying warm together and ! there is such intimacy in shared sleep and they get to do that while they adventure. they spend their days in so much danger but their nights in the comfort of one another, and through this they share their love !! i am so jealous

It’s fascinating to me to think about how different the destinies of Vox Machina and the Mighty Nein have been at the start of campaign 3. The events of this second episode hammered home what big names Vox Machina are, in this post-Vecna Exandria. Sure, not everyone may know the names of the members, but their party, their group, the fact that they saved the world? There’s a general level of cultural awareness about these things throughout Exandria, very similar to how on our world, there are various levels of celebrity knowledge. If Exandria has terrible tabloids, Vox Machina features in them regularly.
Contrast that with the legacy of the Mighty Nein. It is almost impossible to envision a world where someone like Bertrand Bell would use their name for his own prestige, where he’d just say the name “The Mighty Nein” and all the other low level characters on a completely different continent would at least go “oh yeah those people”. None of the campaign 3 characters (that we’re aware of) have any reason to be aware of the Mighty Nein’s existence, even though they also saved the world and accomplished just as much. The Mighty Nein’s legacy is quieter, more in the shadows.
This isn’t a new observation; others wrote on this before, especially around the end of campaign 2. However, after episode 2, I was so struck by how much these new characters highlighted that contrast - at least a few of them with direct Vox Machina ties, and almost all of them knowing of the group. But unless one of them had a personal connection with one of the Mighty Nein that we don’t know about, it seems almost impossible that any one of them would even know they existed.
The Mighty Nein are the tree that falls in the empty forest - but the sound they made echoed around Exandria. After accomplishing something so incredible, they settled down into lives filled with meaning for themselves and lived in relative peace, and I love what this says about the quiet ways that people can save the world every day.

Just something fun for all y'all:
Andrew: I'm going to take everything said by a jock with a grain of salt
Neil: well, technically now, you're a jock, so think about that
Andrew: oh shit
Neil: so I don't know if I can trust you
Andrew: I'm a jock but I...woah
Neil: oh my god did your brain just explode?
Andrew: am I a jock?
Neil, laughing: holy shit
Andrew: I don't want to be a jock
Andrew, while Neil laughs: this is all bullshit
Andrew: oh no, do I have to put that on my business card?
Neil: yeah, Andrew Minyard, jock
Andrew: son of a bitch
Neil: and the older twin
Andrew: and the older twin
