I know I've talked abt this to death, but I still can't get over how Lumity and Huntlow shippers tried to claim Caleb and Evelyn as their own.

Even though Hunter is literally a clone of Caleb and he has the same exact character arc Caleb had. And Willow doesn't fill in the role of "a witch from another world who lured Philip's brother away from him" like Luz does.

I will never quite get over what Huntlows and Lumitys tried to do, because it is the most audacious example of biphobia I've ever seen in a fandom space.

People know on some level, Luz likes princes - it's something that is brought up twice. Luz goes on a quest with a prince and she writes a story where her self-insert kisses a prince. And they're also aware that Luz and Hunter fit the roles of Caleb and Evelyn to a tee. But something in them just can't handle it - the possibility of a bisexual woman writing a story where the bisexual girl has undeniable romantic subtext with a boy is disgusting to them.

Luz is bisexual, but she can't actually be bisexual because most people in LGBTQ+ spaces don't view bisexuality as a legitimate sexuality. People legit see Luz breaking up with her girlfriend to date a boy as an example of homophobia and the writers wanting "to turn her straight." Luz's bisexuality is only valid if she dates girls and is still dating a girl by the time the story ends. Basically bisexuality is only valid if the bisexual "chooses to be gay" because if they don't, then they were always ''straight'' and should be casted out from their own community. It doesn't matter that Hunter is bisexual and that m/f pairings between two bisexuals are non existent in media. Because Hunter and Luz would "look straight" if they started to date, it renders this important and vital bisexual representation as "straight representation." Because for some reason, people have it in their heads that straight people can relate to the bisexual experience and vice versa.

But yeah, the kneejerk fear and hatred that the Caleb/Evelyn = Lunter parallels invoke in people would be funny if it wasn't downright biphobic lol

- in accordance with that he gets pissed at those people who don’t train their dogs and get mad at their dogs when they don’t do what they tell them to. cover him in dogs!!!!

- he seems like he’d just… smell like parchment and old wood.

just got back from seeing longlegs and was super excited to hop on tumblr and see the fan content about it.... only to see someone speculating as to whether or not the film is transphobic bc of nic cage's apperance

like oh my god shut the fuck uuuuuppppp why can't i enjoy something for at least 24 hours before someone tries to start made-up controversies?

the only time longlegs is compared to a woman was on the birthday murders website when the weir family's neighbours claimed they saw what they assumed was an elderly woman before the murder

but everywhere else on the website and throughout the entire movie, longlegs is always referred to as "he", and his gender identity is never a topic of debate or discussion at all, unlike silence of the lambs which displays actual transphobia.

hell the hesse family section literally says that neighbours saw a long haired man loitering around, and this section comes before the weir family section!

and some of the points the OP gave indicating that longlegs could be transphobic was the "plastic face", "falsely high pitched voice" and "singing and dancing". OF COURSE THE FACE IS PLASTIC, IT'S CALLED MAKEUP AND PRACTICAL EFFECTS, MOVIES USE THEM ALL THE TIME. as for the voice, it's clearly supposed to put the audience on edge, not to make of mockery of trans women doing vocal training. if some old guy i didn't know called me little angel in a high pitched voice i'd be scared too. also is this the fucking 1950s? since when were we still perceiving singing and dancing as inherently feminine? did you all just forget the ave maria scene from the batman?

you wanna know what i first thought when i saw nic cage as longlegs? i thought, he kinda looks like jimmy savile, who is a CIS man (if you're not british and don't know who that is, he was a sex offender with long blonde hair just like longlegs; obviously i'm not trying to theorise that longlegs is a pedo but the visual similarities are there).

i can certainly understand where people might be getting this message - at certain angles longlegs definitely looks androgynous and is a fan of glam rock, especially the band t rex whose frontman marc bolan was probably bi (though he himself gave conflicting answers in interviews), but to say that this film was intentionally made to incite fear towards trans people with very little substantial evidence, is either pure ignorance at best or genuine malice at worst.

I am sure you are all aware of the current state of the fandom. I have done my best to avoid all of the controversy, but seeing how others have voiced their concerns I would like to as well.

I, as an artist, do not feel safe in the Rain World fandom.

I have expressed this in the past, but I have been the victim of false pedophile and grooming allegations with the use of manipulated and doctored screenshots. I do not have the words to articulate just how psychologically damaging it is to have an entire fandom turn on you in an instant. To have your social life destroyed. To have hundreds or even thousands of people celebrate your downfall, simply because you annoyed them, because now they have a "reason" to. Watching this fandom gleefully parade around shaky evidence and happily participate in this type of behavior is sickening to me. It makes me worry that someday, I will annoy someone enough to have another false allegation made against me, and I will have to go through that again. There is a part of me that believes I would not survive such a thing. I am not trying to be dramatic when I say that, but people need to realize that "internet drama" can cause serious harm your mental health. I still have PTSD nightmares related to the callout post made about me from 3 years ago. This is not something you can just “get over”.

People need to remember fanartists are not paragons of grace, nor are they perfect. The fact that the internet has allowed people to dehumanize artists into "content machines" that must never slip up rather than human beings who are messy and awkward and can fuck up at times is sickening. I do not feel comfortable in a fandom that jumps at the opportunity to harass someone over a mistake, that stirs up a witchunt over what boils down to miscommunications. A fandom that treats every situation as black and white and doesn't wait for all the evidence to come out.

I believe nyuuronfly put it best in their post:

"It is not inspiring to sit around and get attention in an atmosphere where the more attention you get the more you know many of the eyes that are looking toward you are searching for a weak point to go after."

I understand revealing a lot of my trauma in this post is a potentially stupid decision, but I believe my story can help make people realize the genuine harm callout posts cause. It is not fun having to deal with constant paranoia that hundreds of people are praying on your downfall. I have considered not posting about, or simply deleting my rot au many times because of worry that someone will think it's too “dark” or “problematic” and decide I am the fandom's #1 punching bag for months.

As of now, I will not be deleting, nor will I stop posting art. But I have considered it many times, and this behavior as of late brought me the closest I've ever been to doing so. I love rain world and frankly, I don't want to feel this way about the fandom! I want this place to be positive, I want better for this game. I'm not mad, just disappointed.

PLEASE for the LOVE OF GOD stop reblogging callout posts.

Fanartists are PEOPLE. They are giving you FREE art. Treat them better.

You are not immune to false screenshots, mob mentality, and black and white thinking.

Rain world is a gorgeous, creative, and deeply moving game. Please, let's work to make this community reflect that.
