Pairing(s): Ratchet x ex-Decepticon!reader (platonic), Tony Stark x ex-Decepticon!reader (platonic)
Warnings: violence, reader uses weapons, injuries/blood, reader is a bit agressive
Notes: I'm so sorry if I completely butcher these characters/world. Italics are the reader's thoughts, and *** is a time skip. The reader is a Pretender, a bot that can look like a human
One could argue that you had never looked more like a true Decepticon than this very moment.
The red glow of your eyes reflected off the metallic surface of your outstretched weapon as you stalked forward. Instinctually your face twisted itself into a sneer as the human before you desperately crawled backwards, scrambling over shards of broken glass in a fruitless attempt to reach non-existent safety.
"Not so pleasant, now is it?"
The words left your mouth in all but a feral growl as you effortlessly slammed him against the side of an upturned vehicle. The human's fearful cry of pain fell of deaf ears as you grabbed his hair and yanked forward. You drug him by the scalp for a few steps, eager to make your friend's attacker suffer, and in one swift motion you angled him to properly aim your weapon directly in his face.
"Apparently, this is the only language you actually understand."
Before you had the chance to fire, to exact revenge for your fallen friend, a familiar groan broke your concentration. Your gaze instinctually shot towards the quiet noise, eyes widening as the figure moved.
Thank the Allspark, he's alive!
The human, still captured in your grasp, shoved against your arm- wiping thin trails of his blood against your form. You simply watched him blabber garbled and desperate pleads, righteous fury and pure relief warring in your gut.
How dare they do something like this? To him, of all bots?
The downed form in the distance twitched, and you sighed. From the reflection of the human's tears, you briefly noticed the glow of your eyes switch from red to blue.
"I'll let you live, for now. You come back and I'll finish the job."
Although the threat came out weaker than you intended, the human nodded rapidly in agreement. Carelessly, you dropped him to the ground- waiting long enough to ensure the man was actually leaving before rushing towards the fallen bot.
As you sprinted towards him, he finally noticed your existence. Weakly, the Autobot attempted to drag himself away, eyes narrowing in a suspicious glare. You skid to a halt, raising your arms in an attempt to display your intentions.
I can't waste any time. He needs help, fast.
"What... do you... want from me?"
His words came out in-between harsh coughs that jostled his severely damaged form. Your eyes tracked a stream of Energon leaking slowly from the corner of his mouth, its path down his green paint disrupted by the gaping hole in his side. You fought the urge to glance at your shoulder, to remind yourself of the allegiance you left behind you. Instead, you took another few steps forward.
"I'm just here to help Ratchet. You know me, remember?"
Groaning, Ratchet hauled himself up into a sitting position, shooting you a harsh glare as you moved closer to assist. You could practically hear Starscream's insults taunting you, calling you useless among other things.
"We can't be out in the open like this. We're both being hunted now."
Ratchet paused his movements and you took the opportunity to transform into a hopefully more recognizable form. The same form you'd donned when Megatron revealed your prior allegiance to the Autobots. The same form who'd looked into Ratchet's eyes as Optimus shunned you from the Autobot base, despite your attempted explanations.
While Starscream called it primitive, you found it incredibly useful to pass as a human on this planet.
Ratchet's eyes instantly widened in recognition, before another cough wracked through his body. This time, however, he allowed you to stable him before he could slump forward.
You noticed how his brows furrowed in concern at your now tinier form supporting the weight of his significantly larger one.
"I'm still just as strong Ratchet, don't worry. Now, let's get you out of here."
*** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** ***
You'd been absentmindedly pushing bits of a meal around your plate when a stranger slid into your secluded booth at the diner. You both were quiet for a moment as you studied him- styled goatee and casual suit sticking out like a sore thumb. You sighed, passively rolling your eyes in annoyance.
"Listen, bud. I've had quite the night, so if you're looking to bother someone please move on."
The figure across from you chuckled, tugging his shades off to reveal bright brown eyes. They were gleaming in either amusement or a threat, or an awkward combination of the two.
"This you?"
His phone slid across the tabletop, stopping when it's edge bumped your knuckles. On screen was a recording of your previous work, utilizing your vehicle form to attack Ratchet's assaulters from above.
"How did you-"
"Look, I'm just wanting to know how you got one of my suits."

Kate and Clint fight the Tracksuit Mafia once again. This time, they are more outnumbered and nearly out of trick arrows.
Clint: I really wish we had some backup.
Kate (gasps): I have an idea!
She pulls out a set of car keys and pressed a bee shaped button. Clint looked between her and the keys.
Clint: I thought you couldn't drive?
Suddenly, a yellow camaro sped into battle, knocking into a few Tracksuits before transforming into an armor around the driver.
Tumblr media
Y/n (through radio): I have come here to kick ass.
You notice Kate run twords you and retract your mask.
Kate: Hey babe!
Y/n: (Happy chirps)
Clint watches as the two kiss and start fighting together.
Clint: What the hell?

I read GRRM’s interview regarding book vs show canon and I thought the way he was approaching an adaptation of his own story, and fiction as a whole, was very interesting. I do wonder though - does the concept of having a separate show canon kind of become like a cop-out? Because in that case, any TV/film adaptation can just decide to change the plot as they see fit and go “oh, well, that’s our canon, the book is a different canon.” Doesn’t it cease to be an adaptation after a point, or at least become a loose one? In the HotD context, a lot of the changes being made I actually quite like because I can see them fitting in the canon, because there’s nothing suggesting otherwise.
But say, Sansa marrying Ramsay (or, alternatively, the moment that show was dead to me) we can say with absolute certainty did not take place and will almost definitely never take place. D&D knew that too but they went ahead with it anyway; it’s not quite like the Scarlett example where it makes no difference to the story because this change does. I feel like the whole point of adapting written words into something visual loses some of its sanctity if we just accept TV changes a whole separate canon, as opposed to simply a change made by the writers (good change or bad change is up to personal opinion).
I have followed your blog for almost a decade so I’m really curious to hear your thoughts on the subject.
GRRM's "Scarlett example" -- his question of "how many children did Scarlett O'Hara have?", because in the book Gone With the Wind she had three, one with each of her three husbands, whereas in the movie she only had one -- has been his go-to when asked about the difference between book and show canon since at least 2012. Or to quote him from 2015,
How many children did Scarlett O’Hara have? Three, in the novel. One, in the movie. None, in real life: she was a fictional character, she never existed. The show is the show, the books are the books; two different tellings of the same story.
This is IMO one of the most sensible ways for an author to look at adaptations of their work (even if I have gotten rather tired of GRRM using the Scarlett example specifically, pick something different George, we've seen it before lol). There is book canon and there is show canon. They are different parallel universes. They're separate canons because they contain changes made by the writers, and also because the very process of moving from the written word to visual media must involve some kind of change.
And this applies to all adaptations. That's why I brought up X-Men comics vs the Fox X-Men movies vs the X-Men cartoon (original 90s and 2024's '97). For example, there's 4 different versions of the Dark Phoenix Saga between those canons, at the very least. Wait, sorry lol, I forgot the Ultimate canon version. And the various in-comics alternate universe versions. And god knows when they finally bring the X-Men into the MCU they'll probably do yet another DPS there too. And that's only one of many storylines that are radically different between the various canons.
Or look at the various Interviews with the Vampire. Is the new tv show "not an adaptation" because its Claudia is a teenager rather than 5 years old as in the book or portrayed by an 11 year old as in the movie, thus resulting in extremely different relationships and a reshaped plot? (Among many other changes?) No. IWTV has book canon, movie canon, and show canon.
And I can't speak that well about Transformers since it's not a major fandom of mine, but go take a look at their various continuities if you want some more perspective about just how very far the meaning of "adaptation" can stretch.
Or hell, look at Stephen King, where among his many many many adaptations, some of which just barely resemble the original text, the only one he sued to have his name removed from was The Lawnmower Man, because they literally used an entirely different story and just slapped his title on it.
And then there's the movie Adaptation, which is a wildly meta-adaptation of the non-fiction book The Orchard Thief (it's a story about the process of adapting that book and involves a fictional version of the writer, the screenplay writer, and an entirely invented screenplay writer's twin brother)... and it was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for multiple film awards (and won a few times), and the original writer even said it kept to the book's themes.
Suffice it to say, HOTD has a long, long, long way to go before it could ever "cease to be an adaptation after a point". Changing the timeline to make Alicent and Rhaenyra the same age, or doing Blood & Cheese differently, do not even compare to what some book-to-visual media "loose adaptations" have done. Even GOT, as wildly terrible as their non-book storylines could be, both their changes to the text and after they had no actual text to work with, never became a "loose adaptation". Certainly it became a less than faithful adaptation -- and let's be real, it always was unfaithful for both themes and the essential elements of so many characters -- but it also always was a remarkably accurate adaptation of the whole span of Westeros (in geography and breadth of characters) and the general (not specific) book plot. (Consider previous attempts at adaptation that GRRM rejected, such as a single 2 hour movie, or eliminating Jon and Dany for being "irrelevant", or only making a Jon movie with none of the other storylines, etc.) Which is why, when GOT was different (and awful) it was such a betrayal, like a zombie or evil alien wearing the skin of your best friend or beloved child, and worse, that this twisted lookalike was the only version millions and millions of viewers ever saw and believed to be true.
But again, this just underlines what GRRM has said. "The show is the show, the books are the books." There is book canon and there is show canon. They are separate things. Parallel universes -- very close parallels, often touching in many places, but sometimes they're quite different. Sometimes the differences in adaptation enhance the themes of the original canon; sometimes the author may even consider certain adapted characters (Shae, King Viserys, Helaena) to be better than his original canon; sometimes you know there's only those tricky NDAs (and payments of lots of money) that prevent him from expressing his disappointment in more ways than dropping the Sansa TWOW preview chapter only days before the release of GOT S5. But perhaps if we're lucky, maybe one day we'll have yet another parallel canon to compare to the others.

This to me is obviously Bucky and Steve. Like this is Bucky in Civil War, not quite Bucky not quite the Wintersoldier just someone looking for peace.
His memory is spotty at best, still comes and goes. He remembers the good times but he remembers the horrors as well, he’s not sure what’s real and what’s not. Doesn’t quite know when the torture started or which one it was. Which time was he saved by Steve and which time did he lose his arm. It all blends together.
he doesn’t always remember Steve and Captain America are the same person, he can’t remember their differences either. But he knows that they both make him feel the same way. That one of them, both? Is a promise of safety. That he could weep and never stop and they’d still be there.

So, if I was to write a fanfic about an ex-Decepticon reader saving Ratchet, would anyone be interested? Possibly a MCU crossover fic?
(I'm still mad about how he was treated in the Bayverse btw)

Media I’ve Experienced in 2024 (February) SPOILERS
Same as last time, in order of when completed on a scale of 1-10
Clone High (2023) Season 2 (8/10)-Like a lot of people I wasn’t really on board with Clone High’s revival. If you want to know my thoughts it’s honestly a 6, it has some good jokes but it’s weighed down by more forced and obvious comedy. Season 2 however really surprised me, there were a ton of jokes I found funny, brought in some fanservice like Skunky Poo coming back and Cloney Island being fully realized, and a ton of the character chemistry works.
Bumblebee (10/10)-I never thought a solo Bumblebee movie with humans would work but it turned out to be pretty heartwarming and emotional. Charlie and Bee’s relationship felt real along with some fun action scenes.
Clone High (2002) (9/10)-I tried to watch the original Clone High back in 2022 but my memory got clouded by a lot of personal stuff at the time. So checking the original out felt like a reminder of what the show used to be. The bait-and-switch comedy is top notch, Gandhi’s prescience will always be welcome, and by God the emotional soundtrack makes a ton of scenes even funnier.
Hello Kitty:Roller Rescue (5/10)-Pretty basic beat-em-up, cute soundtrack and visuals, nothing too special. I’m probably just spoiled from playing Island Adventure.
The LEGO Movie (Rewatch) (10/10)-I watched this movie on the exact day of its 10 Year Anniversary and by God, this movie is as funny as I remember it. And after I just watched Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s other work in Clone High I can definitely tell I was spoiled from their comedy from age 8 too. The animation still looks great and I can basically recite the script from how many times I watched it in the past. While yes I’m biased, it’s a very sentimental type of bias that I can never let go.
The Lost Boys (7/10)-The Lost Boys is an old but fun movie. It captures the feeling of adolescent summer fun on the boardwalk along with the relatively small sense of horror of the vampire cult.
Us (9/10)-Back on Halloween last year I watched Get Out and I thought it was good as a psychological thriller but not really scary to me. Us on the other hand was a step-up in my opinion. The doppelgänger plot is really cool and the way the tethered family goes around terrorizing everyone felt thrilling. And man the twist, I’m not gonna spoil it but that twist felt like a complete game changer.
The Marvels (2/10)-This movie is not good but not the worst MCU movie ever. Personally I liked the interactions between Kamala, Monica, and Carol even though I’ve grown to dislike Carol overtime. But otherwise the villain is forgettable, a lot of the fight scenes are complete white-noise, and a lot of scenes are completely cringy and predictable.
Epic Career Quest (7/10)-Waking up after a Super Bowl aftermath was weird for me. I don’t know the general opinion is on this series but I found it entertaining. The characters being mismatched kind of works for me as someone who likes these types of ensembles like Drawn Together. And as a growing adult their messages about imposter syndrome and making your goals really stuck with me.
Terrifier (6/10)-I don’t know if this is a personal thing after seeing so much Invincible and Mortal Kombat but the violence here literally had no effect on me. Sure, this movie is scary but the plot kind of drags for me personally.
Terrifier 2 (8/10)-This movie is a step up in terms of scares and production value. Not to mention there’s more of a plot when the first was just a simple murder plot here it’s an extensive plot about people’s perception of Art The Clown and who he is. Where this movie falls flat for me is the sword thing, I personally thought that was an asspull and kind of out of place in a serial killer movie that a fantastical item just doesn’t fit.
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur Season 2 (8/10)-Moon Girl Season 1 was a fun show that does a lot of cool superhero stuff while also doing enough to stray away from Marvel to make it its own. What do I think of Season 2? It’s on the same level. Nothing really noteworthy, they still do fun things, visuals are nice, and some of the plots are interesting.
Megaman X4 (9/10)-Probably my favorite Megaman X game given what I think about future games. The gameplay is fast paced and fun, the bosses are challenging but fun too, and the transition from SNES to PS1 translated greatly. And the cutscenes exist, if you know you know.
Jujutsu Kaisen (9/10)-Yeah I decided to ride the JJK train and unlike Naruto I do understand the hype. The animation is fluent especially with the domain expansion and curse enemies. I loved characters like Gojo, Maki and Nobara from their entertaining personalities. And Where Our Blue Is will always be one of my favorite songs in anime.
Freddy Vs. Jason (7/10)-The human parts suck especially if they get in the way of crossovers. But Freddy and Jason when they show up together they make the most out of them fighting each other and killing others. Not to mention the setup that has Freddy provoking Jason to getting into Elm Street works really well.
Venom:Let There Be Carnage (3/10)-If I described this movie in one word it would be annoying. Venom is a very obnoxious character who constantly screams and complains about everything. The cliche drama between Eddie and the rest of world is insufferable. The only remotely good part of the movie is the effects on Carnage as it was done pretty well. But other than that I have no desire to watch this one again.
Re:Cutie Honey (8/10)-Kill La Kill mixed with Ghost in the Shell. I honestly thought this was animated by Trigger. But in all honesty I love the fast paced action and character moments.
Resident Evil Revelations (4/10)-Boring. The ship location gets old and I wasn’t scared even once. I honestly like RE6 more than this considering that game has a lot of variety and fun gameplay. This game is so slow and unfulfilling.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica (9/10)-I love how subversive this anime is. Flipping magical girl tropes to be grim dark was a unique twist and made the characters more real than the traditional magical girl stereotype.
