robert chase one of the characters of all time. hes blonde. he went to seminary school. he purposefully murdered a patient. he’s a vapid slut. allergic to strawberries. was caption of his college bowling team. desperately needs to be on antidepressants. he’s divorced. his ex-wife was/is in love with his dadboss. it’s heavily implied that this is part of why he married her to begin with. he’s been fired multiple times but he keeps coming back like a fucked-up obedient boomerang. he’s the best surgeon in the hospital. all this while having the personality of a sopping wet cardboard box of corn flakes that somebody poured milk into and let mildew.

In 15 seasons Supernatural we had only two female main cast members and that too for only one season. Homophobia may have been SPN’s biggest problem but misogyny was definitely a close second.

CYCLOPS SAGA LETS GO!!!
Gonna be telling a bit of the Cap4 arc per image too bc the animatics in my head are getting more and more vivid KANSKWJ
cw for. A lotta blood...
Polyphemus
Tumblr media
Where the crew encounters a Steelhead that watched over a school of domesticated fish/whatever the sploon equivalent of a sheep is. With unintended blood on their hands, 4 attempts to trick the salmonid into letting them go.
Survive
Tumblr media
With 4s trick failing, the steelhead goes on the attack.
...unfortunately, 4 didnt quite understand that the salmonid in these rough seas have no issue fighting bare-clawed. Things only got worse when the steelhead finally found his equipment and blew half of Polites' face and torso clean off.
Remember Them
Tumblr media
The death of Polites (or heavy injury depending on which interpretation Im telling) makes the agent see red. There is a good reason Neo3 respected 4 the moment they met...
Her anger, however, makes her lose her grip a little. She she basically doxxes herself to this salmonid that she decided to spare after blinding him completely with her own bare claws.
My Goodbye
Tumblr media
Marie isnt happy that 4 doxxed herself to the salmonid AND the grizzco crew she had recruited for this investigation...
Shes also disappointed in her for letting her emotions get the better of her. She shouldve finished off the Steelhead, etc. She also appears to be trying to push onto her 3s usual methods of captaining, not realizing that 4 has her own methods of going about it.
Unable to deal with this pressure right after heavy losses, 4 decides to cut communicarions with Marie, much to her dismay.
COLLAPSES. I WORKED ALL DAY ON THIS AGAIN AND IM GONNA WAIT FOR THE NEW SAGA TO DROP. GOODNIGHT INKOPOLIS

Y'know, with all the (mostly good) writing and focus on gender in Taash's arc, I think what Neve's arc is doing in relation to gender is the most powerful thing this game does with gender (or resonates with me the most at least, a cis woman myself)
Other people have mentioned it before, but by all accounts Neve is fulfilling a "male" role in this story. She's the noir detective not the femme fatale, she's a terminal cynic, she eats bad food, she lives alone in a small apartment, and in one route of her arc she is a hardened protector of her city. All of these elements, while not necessarily restricted by gender, are absolutely associated and attributed to male characters.
But Neve also refuses to give up her femininity. She asks Taash if they "like" being a woman (implying Neve does) she wears lowcut-shirts and dresses, she ties her hair up when she goes out. Just because Neve doesn't fit what society typically thinks a woman is, she still is a woman. I can so easily see the writers going down the route that she's "not like other girls" and having her fully reject any and all femininity, and I'm so glad they didn't. It's more subtle then something like Taash's arc, sure, but I really appreciate a lot.

When you're one of the most selfish mc who only saves people because it's part of a job you never wanted and did not get to chose or you would've died, who took your co-workers' morals and ideals because you didn't have any and desperately wanted to fit in somewhere, be it with the heroes or the villains, who's activelly haunted by one the most tragic past to have been created and suffer from a psychosis so bad (dare I say schizophrenia) that even your enemies acknowledged that you are mentally ill and objectively flawed in your judgement, never hesitated to try to kill anyone and has the most egoistic reason to be a good person but the fandom still thinks you're just a kind crybaby "I don't know what a gun is" homosexual twink.

#him being refered as an angel by Shibuzawa is FUCKING IRONIC !!#ASAGIRI IS ALWAYS IRONIC WHEN IT COMES TO LIGHT NOVELS CENTERED AROUND ATSUSHI#Ex : The plot of 55min being parallele to the Decay of Angels arc#He's also called the Man-eating tiger and yes I do think that Dazai lied to him when he said he never ate anyone to preserve his psyche#and was also called “the man who can see the future” and has time travelled with Akutagawa like why aren't we talking about that#his relationship with Mori is also actually good#Mori is one if not the only character who saved and helped Atsushi during their first meeting and kept good contacts with him#because yes Atsushi has seen Mori knowing that he was the pm boss off-screen and they had a normal exchange#I also think that Shibuzawa Atsushi and Fyodor are connected to a form of Holy Trinity#Believer/God/Angel or Messenger#Joseph/Jesus/Mary#or Fyodor and Atsushi as Jesus and Judas#but the instance of trinity in bsd are dare I say extreme#Oda/Ango/Dazai#Sigma/Fyodor/Nikolai#Atsushi/Akutagawa/Kyoka#and so on#and the whole situation around his ability which is unlike any other#It turns him into Byakko (her own being) (similar to Natsume) and nullify his wounds no matter how lethal (similar to Dazai and Yosano)#and enhance him even with his ability off making him constantly stronger than other characters and dare I say equal to the hunting dogs#yk the MODIFIED humans#and the plot of both 55mins and Dead Apple being around abilities and giving us Atsushi lore make me think that Atsushi and Byakko are 1/2#probably a sort of higher being since some abilities are very religious centered (how Fyodor sees abilities and Shibuzawa) 2/2#but I think it would lend toward a “sinner” position which would be crazy because that Atsushi would then probably be the reason why Fyodor#hates abilities so much if Atsushi and Byakko are somehow be connected to the “sin” of abilities#and so you guys know Atsushi's orphanage was a church so yes he's related to christianity#and the Decay of Angels is LITTERALY full of religious people to different degrees#and it would be ironic (once again) if the antagonists were the “Angels” and the protagonist a demon#I just realized that I did a lot of typos sorry I got too excited#but yeah keep calling bsd bad written (we're on barely chap.115 no good manga was finished by chap.115 guys just wait for the rest to drop)

tbh while i get the frustration at not getting a genuine chimera cat, i don't really fault the erins for assuming that a split face tortie was enough to imply it? that's mostly what comes up on google when you look up what a chimera cat is and we all know that's the most research that they do.
like.... yeahhhh they could do better than that but it's not the end of the world to me yknow? im just glad we have such an indulgent character at all. moonpaw's design wouldve sent 2010s wc fans into a rage and something abt that is charming to me

Mary Magdalene / Mike Wheeler
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“She was one of the women who accompanied and aided Jesus in Galilee (Luke 8:1-2), and all four canonical Gospels attest that she witnessed Jesus' crucifixion and burial; John 19:25-26 further notes that she stood by the cross, near the Virgin Mary and the unidentified Apostle whom Jesus loved.”
Tumblr media
“11 Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb 12 and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot. 13 They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?” “They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” John 20:11 - 13
Tumblr media
“Meanwhile, standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.” John 19:25

“16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him […] 17 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” John 20:16 - 18

the first time i saw him in the manga when i read it, like the chapter he was introduced in, i thought he was some kind of decrepit lesbian and tbh. i still stand by that

Dear PTJ, please develope your female characters
Someone complaining abt the way PTJ writes his female characters (truly, a never seen before concept); 1st Afilliate Arc and Cheongliang Arc spoilers (at this point, I think most people are up to date w/ the story, but I'm still gonna put this warning just in case)
Look, I don't take Lookism super seriously. In fact, I think I never did that, mainly thanks to the outlandish concepts it had since the beginning. I'm just here to have fun at this point, and to finally learn the truth about Daniel's 2nd body (omg, it's been 400+ chapters-).
I definitely wasn't expecting to find super well written female characters (even though I definitely should, it's 2024, for God's sake-), something a good number of fighting-related webtoons seem to struggle with. But damn, does Lookism waste its female characters in a way not many have done before.
Since the focus of the story has shifted primarly towards fighting and taking down the Four Crews and Charles Choi, I'm gonna focus on two of the characters most connected to these aspects: Mary Kim and Crystal Choi (ik Lua and Sally are also connected in this way, but I don't really have a lot to say about them and, besides, they've already been covered by another user here on Tumblr)
Mary Kim
The perfect opportunity to get her more involved came up not so long ago, in the ep just before the Allied vs 1st Afilliate fight properly started. We see Mary's reaction upon hearing Vin Jin tell her that Taejin Cheon is alive; we can see her anger asclear as day both in her expression and her words. She literally expresses how much she wants to kill this guy.
And yet, PTJ doesn't make her go and get her revenge. Instead, we have Vin Jin basically saying that he will do it for her because 'his hands are already dirty" (i heavily paraphrased his words, but you get it), which to me, at least, doesn't make sense.
Time and time again we see how close the two of them are in spite of the many jabs they throw at each other. Even without knowing the details of their shared past in Cheongliang (which comes up a couple episodes later), it's very strange that she would let Vin jin go to face him just like that.
By this point, it's already stablished that he murdered somebody, an act that even if deserved by the deceased person, takes a mental toll on the one who does it. Taking this into account, I don't see why Mary would just let who's basically her best friend go through the same thing again, alone. And I especially don't see why she would obey him and stay behind. Her, Mary, the person who never takes Vin Jin's bullshit and always calls him out.
Why not have them both go together? It would be a great opportunity to 1) deal with the last negative reminder of their past, and gain a little bit of closure once and for all, and 2) have Mary finally fight seriously and be able to demonstrate why she's called 'The Empress of Two Seconds' and why she's considered so strong.
We've only seen her take down minor opponents a very, very small number of times, all of which are altercations that don't ever last too long (i guess this last thing is to back up her nickname but, eh)
TLDR: Let Mary dirty her hands as much as Vin. Let them take down together one of the people who has brought them so much pain as the pair of strong besties they are. Stop telling us how strong she is and actually commit to showing it.
__
Crystal Choi
Oh boy, this character-
Like, you mean to tell me that the sole offspring/child of the Big Bad Guy tm the protagonist and his friends are meant to take down, who also happens to be friends with said protagonist, doesn't play a major role on the story? Absolutely insane
And that isn't even taking into account that she also has 2 bodies, which is something only one other character (Daniel, the PROTAGONIST), has and is a major plot point
I'd like to see her be more aware of her privilege as a rich person. Yeah, she was relentlesstly bullied and undermined for her appeareance (which is a horrible thing for anybody to go through) but at least she wasn't poor, too. Does she actually use her money or her status as the daughter of one of the richest men in Korea to change things or solve problems?
Jay literally bought an ambulance of the same type used by the 1st Afilliate so that Allied could sneak in, so why can't Crystal do something similar to help them, too? She helped them during the Gambling Arc by bringing Kouji
I'd like to see her realize and come to terms with the fact that her father's a horrible person. I don't think she knows everything that's going on behind closed doors, but she's definitely smart enough to have noticed that there's something shady going on with his bussiness.
Let her discover the truth. Let her pick either her father's or Daniel's side (the latter which I believe is the most plausible, since she doesn't seem the type to excuse murder, extorsion, etc.). She could act as an informant, helping Allied from the inside.
Heck, you could have her fight, too, if you wanted to. She trained with Gun, after all. And yeah, maybe she's not as strong as the other characters, but we know that she can hold her own against most people. We've seen it.
TLDR: how the hell do you set up a character with so much potential and don't do anything with it. Also, think abt the angst potential!
________________________________________________
Final thoughts, I guess:
I think that Crystal siding with Allied has a higher chance of happening than PTJ letting Mary fight. There's still a good chunk of the story yet to be told, so anything could happen.
I'm actually considering believing that the reason we rarely see the female characters is that they, also, are working secretly to take down the Four Crews and it's gonna get revealed in the last arc for the sake of my sanity

The day we stop praising ouat for its “amazing and subversive” character arc it gave Regina is the day I rest because you look at the overhyped mess it is and it’s just, kind of, there?? I just don’t understand what people are seeing that I don’t. I’ll be the one to say it - David and Snow have more believable arcs on average and are more interesting and compelling characters than Regina. Out of the three she’s the weakest in my eyes. It’s the same “villain is actually just broken” story you’ve seen a million times.
Villain redemptions in general are so overrated. Give me a flawed yet determined hero that will do anything to lead everyone out of the mess their in any day. Give me characters that strive to be good no matter what happens to them, instead of defaulting to murder at the first sign of something bad happening. Give me people who want nothing more than a peaceful life but fight for the greater good anyway. Give me characters who only improve in the face of hardship. Give me characters who love and care so naturally for those around them because they never got that treatment in their own lives. Give me the people deemed boring and annoying by the fanbase.
Give me Snow and David, basically.

You like downtown abbey! I almost did not watch this show because frankly a bunch of rich people from early 1900s England did not interest much but the writing is so good and the characters so intereting that I was rooting for them by episode 2. Anyway. What prompted me to write this ask is: do you have any recs for shows/movie/book with great characters? The specifc genre doesn't matter much. I'm curious to know what media have your favorite characters (besides HP of course)
I do like the Edwardian rich people show! The bastards got me again. It's such an interesting period — I think that the early seasons are the best because you can see the writers are still trying to *say something* about Edwardian Britain, especially the decline of the class system in England during and after World War I. The whole war plotline is really great, some of the show's best writing, and it hits series heights when it's doing the initial aftermath stuff (also not coincidentally the season where they develop Thomas's character beyond 'evil gay footman.')
My favorite characters are scattered all over the place — off the top of my head, Wuthering Heights, Sense & Sensibility, Jane Eyre, Middlemarch, Brideshead Revisited, anything by P.G. Wodehouse; more recently, White Teeth, The Goldfinch, Atonement (book and movie), My Brilliant Friend, and Wolf Hall (books first, but also the TV show). In terms of straight movies, Chimaera was the most recent one that moved me deeply; also When Harry Met Sally, the Before trilogy, The Social Network, Inception, the Daniel Craig bond saga but ONLY Casino Royale and Skyfall and the 35 minutes of Quantum of Solace I actually like; The Royal Tenenbaums and The Fantastic Mr. Fox and The Grand Budapest Hotel, and basically anything Wes Anderson before he got too in his own head about shit; Downton Abbey for fun, The Sopranos for different fun, Mad Men for the most fun of all, and Better Call Saul but only in small doses, because otherwise I'll get brain worms and start crawling on the ceiling about stuff. So, uh. That's a start.
