Her brows came down and her lower right eye joined her upper eyes in looking at him. “Uke,” she repeated in a tone that said, “Yeah, that’s what I said.”

Duke pursed his lips together as he watched her eat, “Okay.”

She brought her hand up and tapped herself, “Mar’in.”

“Mar..in,” Duke’s voice was unsure.

“Mar’in,” she nodded and looked at him expectantly.

“Marin,” Duke paused and smiled, putting his hand out. “Nice to meet you, Marin.”

My Recommended Fic List

So, I got this ask awhile ago, and since I have been re-reading a bunch of my old favorite fics as a way to cheer up after work I figured why not. This list will be long... and varied but mostly its older fics cuz idk there my favs. Now lets go:

Fashion Upgrade - By @soap-lady : Straight up one of my favorite fics ever, its fun, its creative, it never fails to make me laugh when I need something warm and wholesome after a bad day. Also go check out the rest of her stuff there's so much good okay like shes just a writing queen. Shes on AO3 I don't want to spoil you on her other stuff just GO experience it for yourself.

Ode To Decoy pt 1 / 2 / 3 - By @a-marlene-s : Ive always liked this short sweet little fic about Lila getting caught. Its Lila + class salt though so avoid if that's not your flavor.

EVERYTHING - By @unmaskedagain : They have salt, they have sugar, they have funny, they have crossovers. Like honestly they are a just a great writer with so much variety so go check out the masterlist I linked and I guarantee there will be something there you like.

@ravennm84 Is a writer on the saltier side but they have a wonderful selection of weird wacky tales from the salty but oh so well written Damning Evidence that sees Lila get caught in the best way to the 3 part Horror inspired Serafina other great fics from them include Marinettes Family Court Circus pt 1 / 2 and Of Moldy Bread and Cockroaches / Be Kind to Servers honestly its worth giving there blog a look.

@mochinek0 Is another writer with several beloved fics. They write a lot of Maribat and we love them for it. Ones to check out would be Blind Date / Bruce vs Gabriel just go check out there tag list of daminette for more.

Accidental Crime Boss Marinette - By @lady-literature : This is a wonderful idea and a wonderful little fic and I just... I just like it okay. Sadly I haven't read a lot of there other stuff... But I might after finishing this list considering how much I enjoy this one.

@nobodyfamousposts I love a LOT of there fics. They are one of the best when it comes to striking that sweet spot of calling out the show for some of its garbage while not getting so salty that you cant have fun lighthearted goodness. I have been looking for a masterlist of there work but cant find one so just go stalk there tags. I do recommend there Chloe's Lament Series 1 / 2 exploring how certain 'wishes' would backfire. Guardian Assistant Kevin is also a good one Miracle Queen Aftermath pt 1 / 2 / The 8 parter Burn the Witch series / The Wisdom Teeth Reveal / Kagami Vs The Wall of Faces / Resigning With Grace & Spite / I tried to give a lot of links cuz they have a lot of stuff

Kill Them With Kindness - By @luki-fanfic : Well written, good salt without going overboard. Just good vibes. I havent stalked there other stuff but if its anything like this fic its probably excellent quality.

Stephen Vladislav pt 1 / 2 - By @stormiclown : Adrien centered salt on the idea of finally giving Adrien his own proper rival. I like the idea of Adrien having a rival because its usually Marinette and this was just the right length to get those creative ideas flowing. Also just well written what more can you ask for.

Power Trip - By @storygirl000 : This was the first fic that made me go... Wait would it be more fun if Lila was actually competent? And that set me on the path to writing my own fics where Lila is more villainous and more capable. Its short, well written. Good.

Your Wish is My Command - By DemiGoddess28 on AO3 : A great 11 chapter fic looking into Lila's life if she were to win and get a miraculous wish. Its got sugary goodness for our protagonists and the class and salt for our dearest friend Lila.

LadyBugOut AU - By Miraculous-Content on AO3 : A 50 chapter fic made up of snippets and ideas. I found it really inspiring in many ways. I also love how it redeems Marinettes classmates showing how and why they were tricked but holding them accountable anyway its just... Good.

Juleka vs The Forces of the Universe - By goldenlaurelleaves on AO3 : For those of us not yet ready to accept the death of luka/mari we have this wonderful fic showing Juleka being the biggest wingman as she helps these idiots find there way together.

ChaoticNeutral on AO3 has there own Chloe's Lament fic as well as a Gabriel's Lament fic for people who need sweet salty of those two characters.

BroadwayCutie16 was Inspired by the person above and DemiGoddesses your wish is my command fic to write Lila's Lament fic going over Lilas failed wish. Honestly I always love these fics because there just so interesting and the way wishes can be taken and twisted is always a fascinating idea to me.

#WayneAngel - By Tired-Writing-Teach on AO3 : For us Maribat lovers. Its fun and lighthearted with some good gags and some light fluff.

Damian in Paris - By Lilliesandliveries on AO3 : A sweet Maribat series showing what would happen if Damian ran away from home and found himself in Paris and getting therapy.

How a Demon Commissions an Angel - By AlixAnonymous : Damian blackmails Marinette into letting him be her client so he can get his bros the best gifts, they end up becoming penpal buddies.

Mythomania - By LadyEnna_50 on AO3 : Proof that I dont hate Adrien or Mari/Adrien. In this fic Adrien's spine gets titanium plating and he sees just how bad Lila is hurting Marinette and does something about it.

The Contingency - By AbyssalGuardian on AO3 : SALT. Also Tim/Mari but even still I love the way this was written, the style, and some of the ideas just ugh love it. Its not for those who dont like salt so just avoid at your own discretion. Its about a chaotic Marinette done with her life running away to Gotham where she meets her true black cat, and gets her life back on track.

The String That Binds Us - By FaithAndATypeWriter on AO3 : Okay so is there any Mari/Bat fan who hasnt already heard of this one? Who cares its good, its cute, I love it. May the author be blessed with snacks.

The Great IKEA Game - By @batsandbugs : Okay again... I think every Mari/Bat fan has probably heard of this one already because its just that good and that popular. But who cares I am recommending it anyway. Don't read if your allergic to fun I guess.

Project: MESOSA stands for Make Everyone Sick Of Seeing Apple In Their Inboxes and it means I'm going to spam update. You cannot escape. (you can, actually, but let me pretend to be foreboding)

The first iteration of MESOSA came in 2022 under the title 12UpDays, and the official iteration came on August 1st, 2024. That's also the first time it was called MESOSA! There was an unofficial MESOSA in January of 2025 to announce three months worth of fest fics, and the second official MESOSA took place over the month of July, 2025.

Jaymeow Watches and Jaymeow Reads are just general 'I'm getting into a new thing and/or an old thing and have thoughts' tags, Writes has writing updates and some old writing from the days I posted directly on tumblr, Speaks is just rambles.

Okay, and now the hard part - if you want to read my works the best place really is Ao3, especially after tumblr's ai issues, but I have a couple short Miraculous stories that are here to stay (until I give in and start a, shudder, short story fic on ao3), Ghost Fic, Outfit fic, The Salt Fic, and The One Where Everyone Knows, as well as The Paper Lanterns Round Robin.

If you don't want to go to ao3 for whatever reason - first off you're lowkey doomed, second off congrats I put in so much work for you specifically.

This is the 2024 master post, it's not current but it is a good list for wips. This is the official 2025 WIP List, it was eight pages long in google docs.

If for some reason finding me on tumblr isn't enough, I moderate the Nino Lahiffe Appreciation Squad Discord, the Ethereal Grimoire Discord, and the Magpie's Hoard Discord Server. I don't mod Maribat Insanity II but I do have rights to links on request.

WIP Game

Yesterday I RBd a thing where you list your WIPs, then people send you asks about specific ones, and you share a little. @bohemianrhapsody711 asked about these:

Into the Bugverse

I am SUPER excited about this idea, but it's in very early stages (no actual snippets to share, just some disjointed points I'll fill in right now). It is, as you might guess, a riff on Into the Spiderverse. A bit of crack taken seriously where the multiverse is all the fics on Ao3.

We begin with a universe in which Marinette is navigating not to disappointing her parents, who want her to learn the family trade.

Chat Noir, who fought alone most of his life before Marinette was recruited (think of this as kind of a plot divergent Hey, Ribbons by childoflightningg aka @peggiecarter aka @annaethchase), has died (he was Felix Agreste). She's all alone as LB now. The whole of Paris mourns him.

She also meets the new kid, Adrien, and a new Chat Noir shows up. Suddenly, pulled through the "bugverse" into her own world is an older Marinette from another fanwork, possibly Semantitheft's L'Oublie Marinette. They bond while fighting the big bad (imagine a vibe kind of like @leviaana's wonderful comic about Minibug, the jaded older LB who still loves her younger self).

At a low moment for them, other Marinettes get pulled into her world, all from other fanfics. Maybe

a paranoid @buggachat BEAU Marinette or mistrustful one from @wackus-bonkus-maximus One Does Not Love Breathing

Maybe a Marinette from a Coffee Shop AU like Allez savoir pourqois by Yilena who has no powers but is still smart

Or possibly a blog AU like Chat Noir's Miraculous Award for Truly Magical Food by @mommadon. Non-magic Marinette will receive a miraculous as a temp hero!

Marinette from a fic where she's pregnant as fuck but still fighting (the one I'm thinking of it's kind of a twist she gets pregnant later on, so I won't mention it).

Definitely Marinette from Ghost in the Machine by @jheqiawrites alongside her AI companion Adrien.

Possibly an akumatized Marinette

At some point in the fighting, we find out that Adrien died young in this universe and Papillon and Peahen are the enemies, and they're trying to get the miraculous to wish him back to life.

The Adrien in this universe is actually from a universe where Marinette/Ladybug is dead, and OMG, Marinette, he's Chat Noir!!!! Possibly from Hamburger Ladybug by @raspberrycatapult or from Last Wishes by @kasienda

Blah blah save the world, everyone returns to their universes. Hint at sequel that brings in other fanfics' Ladybug versions! Do we get a transdimentional love story?? Who knows? I DO!! (I don't.)

I think there's something of an ethical issue for me about using other people's Marinettes for my story, but I think if it's crack it's more OK (it's somewhat like parody) than if I were creating spinoffs with the same tone. BC to be honest, I suspect none of the BNFs would ever see a message from me asking permission. Better to beg forgiveness, right?

Miraculous: Bachelorette Edition

Alya, sick of watching Marinette flounder into her 20s, unable to confess to Adrien, submits her friend in secret as a potential Bachelorette for a reality TV show where many men vie for her hand. Through the magic of crack, a bunch of guys from the show end up contestants: Adrien (his father made him), Luka (he's pan so why not?), Nathaniel (STILL IN DENIAL about his feelings for Marc), Theo the sculptor with the bad soul patch, etc. Oh, and much to Ladybug's annoyance, Chat Noir is also a contestant?!

All of Paris is begging for Pajamagirl x Adrien Agreste

This is going through revisions in my head, but the initial kernel that is actually written down in my WIPs is

Ladybug falls in a crowded area and unconscious, de-transforms. Someone takes their camera out. "Don't you fucking take that picture. Hawkmoth can't know who she is!" Some teen girl "Is that Pajama Girl? Annette, I think that's Pajama Girl!" "OMG Charlotte, you're right! "Wait, didn't Adrien say in an interview that his celebrity crush is Ladybug?" "Dude didn't I see that Chat Noir took her on a date to Andre's?" Marinette wakes up surrounded by people, freaks out. "Don't worry girl, we're not gonna tell anyone, and no one took any pictures. Your secret's safe. Later that day, Annette and Charlotte get #adrienshoulddatepajamagirl trending on social media. Gabriel, who turns out to have been full of SHIT when he told Marinette that he determines what the public wants, pressures Adrien to date his Very Good Friend for the brand.

Marinette lived her days in Pairs, her eyes on Adrien. But...was that truly what her heart wanted? Or was it a face she hadn't seen in a long time but still haunted her thoughts like the scorch marks left after a fire.

❥ The fic I agonized the most over is literally any fic in my Flowers Aren’t Always A Love Language series (especially Dreaming of Anenome) because I always try to put as much flower language in as possible to put a story within the story. Otherwise it’s An Angel With Demons Wings. I wrote that to get back into writing after a tough time and put a lot of pressure to get it perfect for my wonderful friend @tylindel whom I love. I did a lot of dancing research and made art to go with it.

❥ The easiest fic is From Your Favorite Chaos Gremlins. I was spouting ideas like a sprinkler and was really ahead of my writing partners to the point they couldn’t keep up with me. I got overexcited and wrote all but one line of the second chapter. Of course this fic has ended early despite all the ideas left over as authors split so it remains forever unfinished.

❥ A work I’m proud of is Hold Me Tight Till Morning Light. Originally written for the lovely @tylindel ’s birthday, I wasn’t sure how much I liked it though but @tree-reads really helped my confidence in it with her appreciation of it and it makes me love it too. Otherwise it be Dreaming of Anenome or anything in my Flowers series because I work hard on them and I love hanahaki so much.

“Cardinal,” her voice echoed in his mind. “I, Ophelia, wish to grant you the power to help your team in this battle.”

“I don’t need your magic, I need to get to my friends,” Cardinal growled to the Butterfly holder.

“Please, let me help,” she pleaded. “You have to listen to me.”

“Ladybug and I made the perfect plan,” he snapped, his voice low and angry in the telepathic link. “So don’t disrupt it.”

Ophelia flinched from the aggressive strain the man put on her connection to him. The panic seeped into her bones, feeling as though her muscles were trying to break them, her eyes prickling with tears. She couldn’t. She…

She pulled the barrier that masked her when having a telepathic connection. She swallowed, her voice thick, “Tim,” that made his stomach drop. He knew that voice, nausea washed over him, it couldn’t be her. Zoé was normal, she had a regular life, she, she, she couldn’t.

“Please, I- please. I can’t see you die, not again.” Tim’s body felt heavy hearing that, again. When could he have died? He’d know, wouldn’t he? “I’ve seen it too many times. Tim let me help, let me save you just once,” her voice ricocheted in his mind with her sorrow. Tim’s breaths were deep as she spoke, “Please, trust me.”

💖 Which of your fics is your pride and joy?

There's so many to choose from! First thing that definitely comes to mind is the Council , which gained a lot of readers in both its incomplete and completed stage. For the Maribat fandom, Fox DCW and the Vacation have a special place in my heart. The former is a silly lil AU that started off in Tumblr but it escalated into a big collection of snippets with a proper plot. I also incorporated BioDad!Bruce Wayne Month prompts into it! The latter is my first ever fic in AO3, and I love it so much even if its in indefinite hiatus right now lol.

🔮What's your favorite plot twist you've ever written?

Aha! I love this question!! It's definitely one of the plot twists in the Council, when the King of Hearts was finally revealed. The surprise drove everyone bonkers LMAO and I was giggling like a maniac because of it. A close second is the one in MDC is Dead, which nobody saw coming apparently.

🌷What's one of your fics that isn't as popular, but you hold dear?

@themonarchdragon I LOVE these questions!! There are two that I wish got more love. The first one is the academie, which is my own dystopian-ish spin on the Miraculous universe. It's one of the fics where I outlined really intricate lore and features one of my favorite trios in the fandom (ie. the blonde trio Adrien, Felix, and Chloe). TBH I was often discouraged because the kudos/comments are sparse but I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea. Regardless, I love this AU and I still update it from time to time!

The second one is Miraculo, which I never got around to writing for again, but it's also one of the more lore heavy fics. It's a royalty/medieval AU Felinette, where their magic system is based on the Miraculous powers. I'm hoping the muse strikes again and I gain motivation for this fic again but it's very very dear to my heart.

"Did you know..." Dick starts, fingers moving to push stray pieces of hair away from Marinette's face. Her face was red, eyes wide open at Dick's close proximity to her. "Did you know that you can't pout with your eyes closed?"

What.

What?

"What?"

Dick smirked, charming face looking down at hers with a teasing expression. "You can't pout with your eyes closed. Do I need to repeat myself again?"

Marinette scoffed, lightly pushing him away. "Where'd you get that information? Of course you can pout with your eyes closed."

"Yeah? Do it. Prove me wrong."

Marinette huffs, clearly annoyed with Dick. "Fine! I will!" She closed her eyes tightly, puckering her lips right in front of Dick.

She was about to smile and tell him that she was right when she felt Dick's lips on her. Her eyes opened with surprise and just as fast Dick's mouth leaves her.

"Well. Proved me right there, sweetheart." His cocky grin was enough to get her annoyed again.

Marinette narrowed her eyes at him. "You don't have the balls to do it."

Damian raised an eyebrow. "And what makes you think that?"

"For one thing," she leaned into his ear, and he fought to keep a straight face. "I've never met a pretty rich boy who could keep his word to save his life."

Did she smell like cinnamon or vanilla, like a baker girl would have? No. She radiated liquid iron and disinfectant lemon, chili peppers stewed in butter, musky sweat and apple wood. They didn't go together, and no one would say otherwise.

But somehow, it piqued his interest. He found her contradictory existence intriguing. Simple enough, her whole being defied modern society logic itself.

It made him want to stand out to her.

"Saturday, 7pm, TVi." He turned his head to meet her haunting blue eyes, mischief glowing under the inky blue. "I give you my word."

“The one who holds the charm controls the monster”

“I understand, we are on our way.”

The Dupain-Cheng family all winced from the cold fury of the fuming mother. Right after Camile had joined the family, the principal called wanting to speak about Marinette’s expulsion.

The family took their sweet time getting their things, and leaving for the school, leaving a temporary closed sign on the bakery door. Camile came with them, not yet comfortable with being by herself.

When they arrived at the school, the fury filled mother marched through the hallway to the principal’s office, her family trailing behind in caution. While they were upset by the whole ordeal, they were more fearful of the mother’s anger.

In the office, a girl with brown hair was crying about some form of disease that makes her lie unconditionally. The principal and teacher nodded their heads in understanding, not noticing the air going colder and colder around the baker family. Camile hung awkwardly to the back of the room, keeping silent and watching the whole thing unfold.

“I see…” Madame Cheng gritted her teeth.

“Well now that has been sorted out, I would like to reinstate Mlle. Marinette in our fine establishment,” the principal said.

Only having very blurred versions of her new sister’s memory, Camile was slightly confused at the event in front of her. She could understand that Marinette seemed to have been expelled after an accusation from the crying girl, with almost no proper procedure taken. It was a wonder if the staff at the school had a momentary moment of forgetfulness or blatantly ignored their training.

“Oh, Madame Cheng, who is that?” the brown hair girl’s question snapped Camile out of her trance.

“This is Camile. Sorry dear, you must be confused at what’s going on,” her mother apologized, “Due to personal circumstances, Camile will be staying with us. I had wanted to get her settled before finding a school to enroll Marinette and her into.”

“We will be more than happy to enroll Mlle. Camile in our fine establishment” the principal declared, smiling with misplaced pride.

“That is not necessary Principal Damocles,” Madame Cheng refuted, “we can simply find a new school for her.”

‘And Marinette’ was left unsaid. However, the implications flew right over the principal and teacher’s heads as they continued to express their glee at her joining the class. By the end of the meeting, Marinette and Camile were begrudgingly enrolled back into François DuPont.

“I’m sorry girls, your mother and I will look into a different school for you two,” their father apologized, “are you able to hold out for now?”

“It’s fine papa, I can hang on for a bit,” Marinette wryly smiled.

“I can try,” Camile stuttered.

A few days later, Marinette and Camile made their way down the street for their first day back at school (or first day in general for Camile). Marinette could see her sister growing increasingly nervous the closer they got to the building.

“Camile, are you alright?” Marinette asked, worried.

“I don’t know. Everything is happening so fast,” Camile mumbled.

Marinette winced, “yeah, you haven’t been around for that long and already being thrown into a school environment is too much. If you ever need help, don’t hesitate to ask me.”

Camile nodded her head, and they made their way into the school, towards Madame Bustier’s classroom. She waited outside as Marinette entered the room to inform the teacher of her arrival.

“Please come in,” Madame Bustier cheerfully said.

Camile took a deep breath before stepping through the doorway. Everyone was staring at her with curiosity, waiting for the teacher to introduce her. Her sister mouthed a quick good luck and gave her a thumbs up.

“Class, this is Camile Dupain-Cheng, she has recently been adopted and will be joining our class starting today. Camile, why don’t you sit next to Ivan” Madame Bustier directed.

A large boy wearing a black shirt raised his hand and Camile walked toward the seat. She was right behind her sister and that made her feel a little bit better.

Class went by quickly and Camile struggled to keep up. Having blurred memories didn’t guarantee that she could understand the material she was being taught, apparently. When the bell rang for lunch, several students crowded around her.

“Camile, right? How did you end up getting adopted by the Dupain-Chengs?” questioned the short girl with multicolored hair.

“Uh… well… something happened, so I…” Camile stuttered. She didn’t know what to say, exposing herself as an amok could not only put her new family at risk but also throw a lot of unfavorable suspicion on her.

“Oh, what happened?” a girl with glasses and her phone out asked.

“I’m not really comfortable saying” Camile whispered, shrinking in on herself.

“Come on, you can tell me. I won’t tell anyone, promise,” the girl retorted.

“Alya!” shouted Marinette.

“What? Girl, there must be some reason why your parents adopted her right? I just want to know, is she your cousin or something? Did her parents-”

“Hey dudette, I’m Nino!” interrupted the boy with headphones, “I’ve known the Dupain-Chengs for a while and am childhood friends with Marinette. If you ever need any help, let me know okay.”

Camile just shot the boy a grateful smile. Nino nodded back with a large smile.

“Hi there, I’m Lila. Welcome to our class,”” the brunette girl from the office introduced. Despite her happy tone, her teeth were gritted, and her eyes were cold.

Camile flinched slightly, “It’s nice to meet you…”

“Glad to have you, Camile. I’m Max, similar to Nino, I would like to extend the offer of coming to me in the situation where you find yourself in trouble with any classwork” Max offered, pushing his glasses up.

“I’m Kim, that midget is Alix”

“Hey!” the short girl said indignantly.

“I’m not as smart as Max, but tell me if anyone is bullying you and I’ll be more than happy to kick their butts,” said Kim.

“Thank you?” Camile was confused and overwhelmed. She was created to trick the heroes and nothing more. Mayura’s orders were absolute, she had to do everything alone, meaning help being offered was a new experience.

The class continued their introductions, only a few noticed the new girl’s distress. A lot of questions were asked and answered, somehow leaving the class with less information on the girl than when they started.
