Somnus, The Not So Distant Star
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"You feel for my loss?! What a joke, you don't feel, you've never let yourself feel anything Somnus!
Stone faced as ever, even as the hold Aaravos had of his robes tightened with barely restrained fury, Somnus wordlessly brought up his arm, revealing in his hand a small metal device which emanated a gentle beam of light which halted Aaravos mid-speech. For the light was in the shape of the one he longed to see, but would never hold again - his dear daughter.
"Aaravos, do not mistake my composure for lack of feeling, a light brighter than all of us was extinguished... Begrudge my absence if you must, one voice raised or two, the judgment would been the same. Our actions are predetermined by our immutable nature, hers as well. Her loss has made all the dimmer."
Somnus said, his voice never faltering from his usual reserved cadence, though his eyes reflected a deep sorrow as he gave Aaravos the device, who proceeded to hold it close to his now dimmed heart as he turned and fell to his knees, his endless tears threatening to well once agian.
"You know best of all, how different we each can be. Some mourne aloud as you, others... mourne in silence"
Though he was considered the most distant of the stars, Somnus was capable of the most pity.

Thaumcraft moved on from wands in Tc6, so I wanted to do some service to the various 'casting gauntlets' added by it and some of the addons to it.
Casting Gauntlet "A more modern interpretation of Auromantic manipulation tools, the Caster's gauntlet is built off of studies into the nature of vis in its natural, primal state itself, and how best to harness it without exploiting and potentially destroying the natural sources of aura. thus endangering the balance of the local environment. Initial studies into this topic came from the properties of both the sojourner's wand cap, and the amber wand core. The design of the Gauntlet includes an energized amber lens for the drawing in of vis directly from the local environment, while the ergonomic and practical 'glove' design allows for more direct manipulation of vis as if it were an object one could wield. Some would say this is like reinventing the wheel, and they could very well be right. The iron used in its construction is prone to corrosion through extended use, and personally I would not trust a thin sheet of leather to protect me from all matter of spells that these devices can sling. This is a prototype to eventually be replaced." (Do I reaaaally need to say where its from? -.-)
Silver Plated Casting Gauntlet “Building off of the original design, changing out some fittings with more arcanely aligned metals such as gold and silver provides a slight boost in efficiency, and greatly reduces wear and tear from channeling.” (Not based off of anything actually, but I feel this would be a logical next step for base thaumcraft.)
Thaumium Casting Gauntlet “The charged thaumium that makes up this gauntlet’s build has twofold uses, it both allows for a greatly more efficient channeling tool, and a great bludgeon when vis is not so available. Unfortunately, the nature of thaumium means that its channeling ability degrades with wear and tear, though fortunately not nearly as fast as thaumium wands would.” (Based on Thaumic Revelation’s addition to the CG formula. A greatly appreciated addition tbh)
Elarium Casting Gauntlet “This extremely gaudy tool can directly channel psionic energies into more vis, and it greatly improves the users mechanical ability over the tidal forces of this world. Directly applying so much elarium to oneself however can have some damaging effects on the psyche. Just like with Elarium caps, there are much better uses for the substance than this…” (Not really based on anything, I just wanted to expand the repertoire a bit. This one is more worldbuilding than game design)
Alchemist’s Casting Gauntlet “New. Improved. With 30% more alchemy. This gauntlet is perfect for a burgeoning alchemist, with its highly durable materials, heat and chemical resistant lining, as well as inbuilt pipe management tools, it is a great deal! You can even pump certain essentia into it for a variety of boosts to its efficiency, power, or the like.” (Not really based on anything, I just wanted to expand the repertoire a bit.)
Voidseer’s Casting Gauntlet “It was only logical to take the next step from Thaumium, developing a gauntlet made from both voidmetal and shadowmetal would ensure its survivability long after other gauntlets would be worn out. Its Voidmetal build also allows it to draw in aura faster and more efficiently. It even allows for further tinkering, especially with forces of pure vis harvested from the warp itself, colloquially known as Impetus.” (Based on the Voidmetal gauntlet from Thaumic Augmentation.)
NovaCorp™️ Casting Gauntlet “The latest in aural manipulation and the field of aspectual science as a whole, the Casting Gauntlet (sponsored by NovaCorp™️) will revolutionize how you go about your daily lives! By pulling Aura directly out of the local region into its internal reservoir, it will pretty much always* remain charged! Manipulate arcana! Throw fireballs! But in AEON they aren't the CC, so /shrug)

Leo pressed the release and took the hit. He felt himself start to fall before he even finished exhaling. It was as if gravity had been switched off, along with all the other tedious, typical constraints of reality. In that moment, he saw the world for what it really was; a vortex of energy, color and light of which humans could only perceive a fraction. The air was alive and zinging with power that few had the opportunity to witness.    Light glimmered and fell around him like rain, but completely without sound. It was warm and weightless as static electricity on his skin. Leo shuddered as he watched it spark between his fingers and up his forearm, setting his hair on end. He let it surge through him like waves in the ocean, intoxicating him with visions of power.     “The only way to win,” he reminded himself with a whisper, “is to make sure everyone else loses.”
Whatever, soon we'll be dead or worse Singing our songs in a blacked out hearse

A Strange Raccoon
Doctor Stephen Strange didn't know what to make of the battered, young, anthropomorphic raccoon curled up beneath the Cloak of Levitation. The Sorcerer Supreme, of course, knew that this was no ordinary animal; he wouldn't evict the poor creature from his home, the Sanctum Sanctorum!
Even if he wanted to, the Cloak of Levitation wouldn't allow it; when Stephen approached, the Cloak slowly - so as not to wake the raccoon - curled gently about the animal, swaddling him like a babe. "It's alright, it's alright, I'm not going to hurt him, or throw him out; I would never!" Stephen murmured, soothing the agitated Cloak. The mystical garment slowly unfurled, revealing the raccoon... and the Doctor inside Strange reeled at the battering, the bruises, the wounds, and the utterly horrid cybernetics visible on his shaven back.
"He's going to need some medical attention; I am unsure as to exactly how much," Stephen mused. "After that... well... I can try my hand at being a father figure? Honestly, I've been searching for an apprentice for quite a while, now. This poor fellow was somehow able to find his way here, so he must have magic potential..."
"... Rocket."
Stephen blinked. "Did... did you speak, little one?"
The little raccoon shivered, snuffled, whimpered; then as the Cloak of Levitation curled about him, going all motherly, he answered, "Sire called me numbers... 8-9-P-1-3... but I'm Rocket! P-Please... it hurts... hurts! Cloak talks in my head - you're a doctor, but you're not mean like the white-coats - and she says I can trust you. Please.... hurts, hurts!" The little raccoon couldn't hold it in anymore and sobbed with pain. Without hesitation, Stephen Strange moved, picking up Rocket as gently, delicately, as he could. As the Cloak of Levitation lifted to settle about the strange man's shoulders and cover them both, Rocket looked up at the man in awe. For the second time in his life, he was warm. For the first time in his life, someone was touching, holding him, without causing pain. "Don't worry, little one; everything's going to be alright."
. . .
Much, much later...
"You think you have some worth in and of yourself without me? No! You're an abomination! Nothing more than a step on my path! You freakish little monster! How dare you think you are more, 8-9-P-1-3!" But that was all the High Evolutionary could do--before he could attack Rocket, with thunderous expression on his face, an utterly furious Stephen Strange smashed the man against the wall with mystical energies! "How dare you hurt my son!"
Dressed similarly to his father - in robes of orange with a cyan cloak - Rocket Strange, Technomage Apprentice of the Sorcerer Supreme snarled. His own mystic power shining vermilion in his eyes, dancing orange between his paws, he withdrew a huge magitek weapon from the holster on his belt--a weapon that by all rights should not have fit in there, it was too big!
"The name's Rocket," Subject 89P13 announced. "Rocket Strange. And you're fuckin' dead!" The eye on the clasp of Subject 89P13's cloak opened... There came a whine as the weapon charged... The High Evolutionary's life flashed before his eyes... And then the man knew no more...

"By the twelve, give me a chance to save those I love."
Sharing some throwback pics from an epic RP session. Camil, along with Albertain and their squad, embarked on a daring mission to save her father. And let me tell you, things got intense real quick. Sadly, one of Camil's own family members proved to be ruthless towards the three of them (yep, I said three because it wasn't just Camil's life on the line when she got kidnapped by the death claw).
Also I got inspired by this song while drawing:

In every society, the flow of communications is deeply important. In a society built around the arcane, this is no different. Thus, the Bureau of Communications was established in order to facilitate quick and easy transit of mail and small packages across the multi-continental span of the Dominion. When initially developed, the Arcane Mirror was a niche curiosity, useful only for moving small objects from place to place. Its properties as a portal were disappointedly lacking, as living beings that attempted to cross its threshold were subjected to severe warping, burns, and usually outright death. But it was eventually found that objects such as notes or small packages could be sent incredibly vast distances with little to no effort, and this quickly revolutionized the flow of information, governmental organization, and infrastructure development. As mirrors only had one point of attachment, a series of increasingly centralized bureaus would have to be established, full of clerks, administrators, and golems to run and operate them. Each village or collection of villages of over 1,000 persons would be assigned a mirror, an area code, and a regional seal to denote letters from the area.  Towns of over 10,000 residents may have multiple mirror offices using the same a rea code designated to them. Large cities may be split into multiple 'district' sub-codes, and also have 'regional' offices tasked with holding a number of mirrors from across their region's towns and villages to ease burden on the central bureau.  Likewise, the capital of each Duchy in the Dominion would be home to much larger office centers teeming with bureaucrats and coordinators moving mail up and down the ladder.
Arcane Hand Mirrors are almost entirely seen being used by ambassadors, military officers, and the military branch of the Communications bureau, and have less complex bureaucratic ladders attached to them, usually being direct lines to their higher ups.
The prospect of privately owned arcane mirrors is one only the most affluent can enjoy, as they require a lot of power, ample maintenance, and safety precautions to own and operate. The vast majority of mirrors are owned, operated, and manufactured by the Bureau of Communications, who answer only to the Duchy & Empress herself.
The Establishment of the Bureau has been claimed to have stifled development of the communications sector, as the ease of sending mail across continents within a day means things such as the Telegraph or fax machine would be not nearly as necessary or novel as in our world.
