1930 Ford Highboy Coupe

There’s always lots of detail work with any build and this ’30 Ford highboy coupe is no exception. Look closely and you will find Craftworks Fabrication handmade steel motor mounts. The license plate and valve covers were painted by Jeremy Seanor of Luckystrike Designs. He also painted all the accompanying engine and tranny parts. The powdercoat was handled by Pittsburgh Powder Coat while the chrome plating was conducted by Jon Wright’s Custom Chrome Plating.

The chassis is comprised of a Roadster Shop custom frame that was stepped, stretched, and features contoured ’32 Ford-style framerails. It was also then boxed, capped, and has hole punch flared front framehorns. From here the frame is outfitted with a Super Bell 4-inch drop, drilled and plated I-beam axle, low-profile monoleaf spring with Ridetech tubular shocks paired to custom-made drilled billet radius rods from Johnson’s Hot Rod Shop. Steering falls to the Flaming River box and a LimeWorks Hot Rod column topped with a four-spoke Billet Specialties Sprint Car–style leather-wrapped wheel. In back there’s a Currie 9-inch rearend outfitted with 3.70 gears, 31-spline axles, QA1 coilovers, a Pete & Jakes Panhard bar, and a parallel four-link setup. Braking is a combination of disc/drum front to rear. The forward braking dark gray–painted Wilwood Dynalite calipers are neatly hidden behind the Pete & Jakes finned backing plates. While in back the 9-inch is outfitted with 11-inch brakes, this time hidden beneath the SO-CAL Speed Shop finned drums all the while the chassis rides on a full set of 16-inch Dayton wire wheels wrapped with Coker/Excelsior rubber measuring 5.50R16 in front and 7.00R18 in the back.

All hot rods have something fun settled between the ’rails and beneath the hood (well if they have a hood). In the case of our ’30 Ford highboy coupe it sure appears to be a vintage Ford Y-block but after more than a cursory look we begin to see the telltale signs that there’s something more. Indeed, while it may look like a Ford it truly is a 376-inch LSX iron block, with aluminum heads and ARP studs, plus adapter-equipped small-block Ford (Windsor) valve covers all from Don Hardy Race Cars and then assembled by Talik and Marc Mullin. The intake is an Edelbrock LS dual quad with a pair of Thunder AVS EnduraShine carbs dressed in OTB air cleaners. Delivering the gas from the Tanks stainless reservoir is an Earl’s Performance billet fuel pump. More engine accessories include an MSD 6AL box to go along with the MSD billet Ford small-block distributor that functions through a timing cover adapter from Chevrolet Performance all the while using an MSD coil and Lokar vintage plug wires. Powermaster also supplied the alternator and starter, the battery is an XS Power AGM, and a Wegner Motorsports water pump is used as well as a Wegner front accessory drive unit. This 500-plus hp V-8 utilizes custom headers made at Craftworks Fabrication based on Ultimate Headers LS header flanges. The pseudo-Ford small-block is backed up to a TCI StreetFighter 700-R4 with a 2,800-stall speed converter operated by a Lokar shifter. The trans cooler comes by way of Derale Performance and moves the power through a 3-inch-diameter custom-made driveshaft.

❥ Watch a movie, go onto a streaming service, or get a DVD and once you click on it or touch it, you have to watch it until the credits end, then write a descriptive review on it, pros, cons, etc.

❥ similar to the above, read a book, a chapter per sitting, write a review and if you’re extra, write a review per chapter or on every character, etc

❥ discover a new artist, go onto a public playlist, click on a random song, go to the profile and listen to one song from every album (or more), and write a review on how the music makes you feel, what they can do better and more.

❥ pick up any hobby, it doesn't matter how bad you are, you’ll get better. This hobby can be anything, find a project relating, plan it out, do the project and evaluate it, what went wrong/well, what could you have done better, etc.

❥ Window shop online or in, take pictures, and screenshots and add them to an online journal and or wishlist, create outfits, and looks, or even find cute little room decor.

❥ Pinterest and Spotify is your best friend, make inspiration boards, ranging from meals, and bods to clothes and rooms. This ties in with window shopping and discovering a new artist.

❥ walk, some of you don’t exercise and some of you overexercise, sometimes grabbing a bottle, and having some coffee or water on a walk around your area works, some of us feel uncomfy in our areas due to people we may know, so try to figure out routes no one goes.

❥ excerise, again, figure out a small, ten minute routine to add to your day, push-ups, all that, whatever is easy for you to do.

Disclaimer : je suis quasi sûre qu'il reste plein de choses à dire, n'hésitez pas à me suggérer des rajouts (notamment sur phpbb3 et punbb que je connais pas bien) et j'updaterai ça ✨

Choisir la version de son forum

La première étape de la création d’un forum est de choisir parmi 6 versions différentes celle que vous souhaitez. Mais ce n’est pas forcément évident pour tout le monde, surtout quand on a aucune idée de ce que ces noms signifient !

A quoi ça sert, la « version » du forum ?

Pour simplifier, il s’agit de l’élément qui va déterminer la structure HTML de base de votre forum. PhpBB2 va par exemple faire une structure en tableaux (= avec <table>, <tr>, <td>) alors qu’Invision va faire une structure avec des éléments en flottement (=avec float, position) ModernBB et AwesomeBB sont beaucoup plus modernes que les autres et utilisent des standards comme flexbox et grid.

Globalement, ce choix ne vous empêchera pas de coder les choses comme vous le voulez par la suite si vous êtes déjà à l’aise avec vos templates, ce n’est que pour déterminer la structure de base, mais il est quand même important de partir sur une base de templates qui vous convient plutôt que d’avoir à tout transformer vous-même.

Comment choisir ?

— PhpBB2

Forumactif la décrit ainsi : « PhpBB2 est la version qui vous permet de totalement personnaliser votre forum. Si vous avez besoin d'un forum flexible et stable, n'hésitez pas à essayer cette version. » En réalité, toutes les versions permettent de personnaliser de A à Z son forum, c’est surtout la plus ancienne version sur la plateforme et elle est donc très datée, mais elle est toujours fonctionnelle.

Avantages

Beaucoup, beaucoup des LS disponibles sur les forums d’entraide sont des LS compatibles avec PhpBB2 seulement. Pour les utilisateurs de LS qui n’ont pas forcément de connaissances en HTML, la version PhpBB2 est plus riche en ressources. De plus, les tutoriels d’apprentissage sont aussi très souvent en PhpBB2, ce qui rend cette version très accessible… Malgré de nombreux désavantages.

Désavantages

La structure en elle-même n’est pas extrêmement claire pour les débutants, même si encore une fois la plupart des tutos d’apprentissage sont sur PhPBB2. De plus, elle ne donne pas forcément de bases très correctes puisque, comme je disais en introduction, cette structure est basée sur des tableaux et peut inciter à structurer tous vos futurs codes en tableaux là où des techniques plus actuelles permettraient de produire des codes nettement plus modernes et clairs. (En utilisant flexbox ou grid notamment, comme ce sera le cas dans Modern et AwesomeBB.)

— Invision

Forumactif la décrit ainsi : « Invision est une des versions les plus performantes de Forumactif, sa puissance et sa stabilité rendent cette version incontournable aux utilisateurs qui souhaitent exploiter au maximum leur forum. » Je conseillerais en effet plutôt cette version aux personnes déjà à l’aise avec le codage, puisqu’elle intègre des techniques plus modernes de codage… Qui ne sont déjà plus assez modernes.

Avantages

Elle est bien plus facile que PhpBB2 d’un point de vue codage. Les templates sont construits de façon bien plus claire et l’affichage du thème de base contient des petites choses sympathiques comme (entre autres) des catégories rétractables, et l’affichage de la liste des membres en petits blocs plutôt qu’en liste. Il permet également d’aligner les profils à gauche ou à droite dans les messages en utilisant un simple bouton dans le panneau d’admin (Général → Forum → Configuration → Structures des pages, option Position du profil dans les messages).

Désavantages

À nouveau, le désavantage majeur est le manque de LS/tutos sur cette version qui est pourtant très intéressante. À noter cependant qu’elle utilise les flottements (float et position) pour placer ses éléments, un standard aujourd’hui déprécié au profit de flexbox/grid. Cette version a quelques LS disponibles, mais les ressources et les aides demeurent limitées, car elle a été très vite éclipsée par ModernBB.

— ModernBB

Forumactif la décrit ainsi : « Le thème ModernBB permet de créer un forum design, simple et intuitif. Le code a été modernisé pour faciliter les personnalisations du forum. » En effet, le look de base est beaucoup plus plaisant et moderne que les versions précédentes ; et le code est beaucoup plus conforme aux standards de codage d’aujourd’hui, utilisant en majorité flexbox pour créer des colonnes. Il est donc aussi beaucoup plus clair pour apprendre à coder.

Avantages

L’affichage de base de ModernBB offre des fonctionnalités sympas, comme un header pleine largeur, une barre de navigation qui suit le scroll, les catégories rétractables, la position droite/gauche du profil dans les messages, et des statistiques qui s’affichent en footer du forum. De plus, elle est en partie responsive (c’est-à-dire qu’elle s’adapte aux petites largeurs d’écrans) avec un mode mobile-friendly. Récemment, Forumactif a aussi permis d’afficher des images dans la liste des sujets sous cette version.

On note également l’existence d’une ressource très utile, le Blank Theme de @code-lab, qui permet d’avoir une base propre et optimisée pour commencer à coder sur cette version et la rend beaucoup plus accessible aux débutants comme aux confirmés.

Désavantages

Bien qu’on pousse désormais pour que les ressources s’adaptent à cette version, il n’y en a toujours pas autant que pour PhpBB2. Néanmoins, cette version est celle qui est privilégiée désormais pour les nouveaux LS.

— AwesomeBB

Forumactif la décrit ainsi : « Le principal avantage de la version AwesomeBB est sa fonction responsive. Votre forum s'adapte à toutes les tailles d'écran, les membres peuvent ainsi discuter, partager des photos et chatter aussi bien sur PC que sur mobile. » Effectivement, cette version est entièrement responsive car elle est codée de façon moderne et cohérente avec les standards de codage actuels.

Avantages

AwesomeBB regroupe tous les avantages de ModernBB avec quelques différences d’affichage, notamment la prise en compte de la toolbar directement dans la barre de navigation, offrant des panneaux latéraux qui s’ouvrent au clic.

Désavantages

Il n’y a littéralement aucunes ressources disponibles en forum d’entraide pour cette version.

Changer de version

Il est possible de changer de version de forum à n’importe quel moment.

Panneau d’administration → Affichage → Choisir un thème → Onglet « Version »

Mais attention ! Puisque chaque version a sa propre structure HTML pour le forum, vos templates modifiés ne seront plus compatibles avec, et l'opération supprimera votre CSS. Certains javascripts peuvent aussi être incompatibles et devront être modifiés pour fonctionner. En clair, votre contenu (messages, avatars, comptes, etc…) sera sauf, néanmoins votre forum n’aura plus du tout la même apparence.

Et en résumé ?

Au final la véritable hésitation se situe entre PhpBB2 et ModernBB. Actuellement, l’offre des forums d’entraide permet surtout de se familiariser avec PhpBB2 qui est pourtant très vieillot. La version ModernBB est néanmoins très intéressante malgré le manque d’encadrement pour ceux qui veulent s’y lancer, et gagne en présence sur les nouveautés en LS/tutos.

Pour ceux qui ne souhaitent pas se plonger dans le code profond de leurs forums et simplement personnaliser l'apparence grâce au PA et aux images, le choix est nettement plus simple : basez vous simplement sur l'apparence de chaque version pour décider de la structure qui vous plaît le plus. Ch. 4 - (We're) Not Strangers

Sometimes we're not as unseen, as we believe ourselves to be.

It’s early, a pink growing sunrise, and refreshingly brisk air make Logan's trek more bearable. He breathes in the quiet scent of morning.

They're his favourite, mornings, his mind blissfully blank, only the simple action of his feet occupying his mind.  The rare car whistles by, and a rare honk or two as some locals greet him while he meanders towards the shop.   

He pushes his hands into the pockets of his sweater in search for warmth. Nose and cheeks already pink from the brisk morning air. His legs, although clad in shorts, are blessedly warm from the physical exertion. 

A mile from his destination, he hears a car roll up beside him. It’s the man in his ostentatious Ferrari, window rolled down and a playful grin on his lips. 

“Didn’t think you ever left that shop, you need a ride or something?” 

Logan eyes widen in surprise, he fists his hands in his sweater as he tries to form a sentence. His mind unhelpfully still lax from sleep. 

Instead what comes out is a scathing “of course I leave the shop.” Shocked by his own response as his mind finally catches up with his mouth, blushing scarlet, Logan quickly follows it with, “sorry – no. thank you?” kicking his foot as he stands, “I’m just a bit further down. I’ll be fine. Thank you!”  whipping back towards where he was walking, hiding his now flaming face. 

“Aren’t people from small-towns all about the kindness of strangers?”, the man asks, brows drawn in like he’s confused at Logan’s refusal. 

“Yes, the ones who want to be killed or kidnapped.” Logan sulkingly replies. “Plus you’re not a stranger, you’ve shopped at the store. So not really a kindness from a stranger.” Logan states gesturing between himself and the man.

His peaceful morning trek, officially derailed. 

“Perfect, it’s established – I’m not a stranger, so get in. I need something from your store. I have an early meeting and from your leisurely pace, I’m gonna be late if I let you continue. So can you please do this not-a-stranger a favour?” The man asks, hopeful.  

Inwardly groaning, Logan stares at the man, gauging if he’s being serious. Peeved, Logan thinks, it's 6 a.m. of course, I'm 'leisurely' walking. But he hears the doors unlock and takes it as his cue to get in. There’s no point fighting against it now. 

As he slides in, the leather seat is thankfully warm against his cooled skin. The car smells of something warm, woody – cedar? No, vetiver, Logan thinks to himself. He turns to look at the man and finds him already looking back.

This car is way too small for Logan’s liking. 

Logan quirks his eyebrow in question, as he tries to subtly shrink back in an attempt to create some space between them, “Yes?”

The man nods toward his seatbelt, Logan quickly fastens it. He then pulls the car back on the road.

Logan tries to subtly look at the man from the corner of his eye. He's focused on the road, almost in tune with the car as he easily changes gears. He’s smooth. It must be a hit with dates, Logan thinks scowling before he can stop it. 

Before long the warmth of the seat, the vibration of the car and ease in which the man drove it, lull Logan into relaxing back into his seat. His earlier annoyance forgotten. A sigh leaves him. 

It draws the attention of the driver, who quietly surveys Logan's relaxed form.

“Do you always walk to the store?” he asks curiously. 

Logan turns his head towards him, meets his stare and says “yeah” softer than he means to. And for once, its Logan peering into the man than the other way around. He keeps his cheek pressed to the warm leather of his seat, unmoored in his self-control. And, for a moment, the car warms even more, the space between them not far or close enough.

But the man looks away to refocus on the road, and past his profile Logan can see the turn towards the shop come up. 

Finally, the car rolls to a stop at the front. Logan unfastens his seatbelt, one hand on the door handle, and says a quick thanks before getting out.

Still unsettled from their car ride, Logan approaches the shop door as if each step is mired in molasses.

Just as he reaches for the handle, he feels a warm breath against his neck. Startled, he fumbles with the door. “I told you I’m in a hurry,” the man says with a laugh, as he gently pushes Logan inside the store.

The man watches with arms crossed as Logan turns on the store lights. Once Logan finishes his checks and rounds the white counter, the man heads to the fridge.

He returns with a pack of energy drinks. Logan raises his eyebrows in disbelief. “This—this is what had you rushing me to the store for?”

It’s the man’s turn to look sheepish, as he rubs the back of his neck and shrugs, “I don’t like coffee, and this wakes me up.” 

“You look plenty awake to me.” Logan deadpans. 

“Exactly, I plan to keep it this way until my meetings are done” he cheerfully answers. 

Logan rolls his eyes, as he punches it into the cash giving him his receipt. 

He expects the man to hightail it out of here, and get to whatever meeting he needs a pack of energy drinks to get him through to. He lingers instead.

“I’m Max, by the way. Since we’re not strangers.” he says with a light, almost teasing tone. 

Logan blinks, caught off guard. “Logan.” His own name heavy on his lips.

“I know.” Max’s gaze is almost soft, knowing as it holds Logan’s for a moment longer than necessary.

Logan’s brow furrows, trying to grasp how Max could know him. Before he can ask, Max is already turned and walking away.

As the door swings shut behind Max, Logan’s gaze lingers on the empty space where Max had stood, the unanswered question hanging heavy in the air.

Author note: I know that hairy hand is not MV's but i feel like a beggar on pinterest trying to find a single sexy profile pic of someone driving a ferrari. So please imagine it is him. I beg.

Another side note - I was going to originally make this chapter angst galore with the whole lore coming out but i changed my mind because i love a slow burn. so for the next chapter if you have any ideas of where u think this will go or what you'd like to see please let me know. i already have a little draft but im open to ideas

I remember the day you posted the 3x08 tag fic, because I got so hooked on it, I read it like 3 more times that day, and even now I go back to it regularly. I remember clicking on your profile, hoping to see what other works you had for LS and then hoping you would keep posting because I so completely fell in love with your prose, your character work (also the smut was and is so hot!) and now!! Look at what grew from that fic! Missing moments is definitely up in my all-time ever fic series and to think about just how many works and words and work you put into these stories!!
