(This was written weeks ago but was in my queue. I am moving back to my college town Saturday so busy days are to come but now I have things to procrastinate 😈)

So YAYAYAY time for season 2 (my fave season overall) !! I’ve rewatched this one before, so i actually remember some of this lol

i have thots abt the introduction of power levels that will be told beneath the cut

i mean it’s all very dragon ball (which i love, but in a very different way). I feel like they are just better executed in manga format, because saying the numbers out loud just kinda breaks up the flow of dialogue and action. Plus the numbers never stay accurate since the characters are always powering up and nakaba lowkey just stops using them at one point. so like assault mode!Meliodas has a power of 142,000. BUT he defeats enemies with powers higher than that and is shown to gain even more power. But this is the highest number we have for him. Overall, theyre clunky, not updated enough to be accurate, and just kinda cheesy :/ I feel like plot could have been added to justify and explain the eye of Balor (AKA Drole if i remember correctly) but it’s just used as an excuse to quantify the characters’ strength since this season is mainly focused on physical and emotional growth, as seen by the Ishtar Arc (one of my fave arcs hehe)

so Meliodas’s beginner stats (still missing his powers) are magic 400, strength 960, spirit 2010. The way I see it, his insane spirit strength could mean one of two things: bitch is just hella determined in his quest to end their curses and protect his friends (likely) or merlin taking away his power only affects his strength and magic since spirit has to do with your mind (also likely) anyway what do y’all think?

So the whole concept of sacred treasures is really cool to me because they are clearly something unique to the Sins, despite all of the sacred treasures being very different and made of different materials. I mean Gowther’s is straight up made of light Still, them having weapons that serve as a constant and grow with them as they become more powerful is just a neat concept to me. I just wish we could have seen Ban use Courechouse more than just a few episodes. There really isn’t a plot reason he couldn’t have had it beforehand.

I honestly love that Meliodas destroyed the albion on his own. Like yes, he is my OP blorbo BUT he’s also supposed to be incredibly powerful in canon, which we haven’t seen him go all out with an enemy yet. Not only does he know all about albions (bc he’s a demon), but as leader of the 10 Commandments, he probably was on the controlling side of the golems. Then, as a member of Stigma, he fought against them. Not to mention, this is when he finally gets Lostvayne (the DEMON sword) back. This moment for me is when he gets to show off the perks of him being a powerful and high ranking demon. Might fuck around and do a full post later on Meliodas’s relationship to his own race and what/who he is lol

Plus, I think the demon king’s possession of Meliodas AND Zeldris can be (somewhat) compared to Sariel’s aging up of Solaseed. Anyway, i feel like this can support my hypothesis of Zeldris and Meliodas are just babies who will eventually look like adults. Also, I think them being super young just enhances the angst quite well.

Day 8: Who is your favorite vnc character and why? Who is your least favorite and why?

If there's anything I've learned from reading Mochuzuki's works, it's that I will never truly know who my fave is until I get to the end--because I can never fully know her characters until the end.

So all that to say, my feelings now could easily change later XD

Currently, my favorite character is actually Olivier. I know he's a pretty minor character, but I just find him delightful.

What can I say? I like slightly-too-serious guys who have long hair.

The straight-man-and-wise-guy act is always a fun one, but I was especially delighted with it in regards to Roland and Olivier. I really liked Roland when he first appeared, and still do, but he also was...a lot. I couldn't fully tell what was truly up with him, or how to feel. Especially because all his associates seemed to adore him. But when Olivier showed up I was like okay, yes. Olivier perfectly cuts through Roland's...a-lot-ness and grounds him, and makes them both feel like real people. Their friendship is wonderful, and makes me really adore them both. I don't think I'd like either of them nearly as much if I wasn't viewing them side-by-side.

Lately...I actually have been starting to really like Vanitas. I didn't like him much at the beginning, but I also knew from the beginning that I'd probably end up liking him the most. I wouldn't say I quite like him the most just yet, but the more I learn about his backstory and his true feelings and angst, the more fascinated and endeared I am towards him. He's such an intriguing character.

I think I will always love Noé, as well as Domi. They were the first characters I felt a strong liking to, and I doubt that will change by the end. Noé was the one I was most excited to see when I watched the anime trailer. He's just such a sweet little country bumpkin, it's hard not to love him.

Ruthven is another one that intrigues me. I really liked hearing his backstory in Chloé's arc, and am interested in learning more what went wrong there. Though I wouldn't say he's my favorite, because he also is plenty creepy too.

Luna's another one I find intriguing, but in her case, it's less her backstory that delights me, and more her personality. I was not at all expecting the vampire of the blue moon to be such an upbeat, fun, and lovely person, and I find myself grinning each time I hear her talk.

Least favorite...I'd say Veronica. I'd be curious to learn more about her and find things to like about her, (and I hope I will be the end), but right now I just really don't like her, and how she treats people--especially Domi.

Ohhhh my gosh where to start.

Honestly I'm just gonna talk about my favorite characters and why I like them, and also the problems I have with them

It'll be under the cut, for those who don't care lol

Gonna start with Rebecca because she's the fave that I have the most issues with. I really like her character, she's smart, she's strong, she's a good fighter, and she's witty, and for all of those reasons she's fun to watch and play as. My issues with her are that Capcom has absolutely no clue what to do with her. She's a side character in the first game that doesn't get to do much except get told to stay out of the way, in her own game, RE0, she's literally the main character but ends up feeling like a supporting character for Billy's arc, and holy fuck is she nerfed in Vendetta. She has that scene at the school making the antidote in the lab, and has a good scene where she fights off some zombies before hiding and getting rescued. She tells Chris what she knows and they go find Leon before she gets kidnapped and gets to do absolutely nothing else for the rest of the film. She's a damsel in distress, is almost forced to marry the villain because she looks like his fridged wife, and is infected with the virus and rendered immobile until Chris and Leon rescue her. Like that entire scene she's just sitting on the table writhing and moaning makes me so uncomfortable. Capcom made a great character, they just didn't know what to do with her (and apparently STILL DON'T considering she's not even in Welcome to Raccoon City) Also, can she not be older? It's impressive that she graduated from college at 18, it shows her incredible intellect, but that doesn't mean she has to be 18 in the first game, does it? Can she not be more adult-like? Idk

Next is Claire. Claire is great! Claire I have less issues with, considering the franchise has been nicer to her character recently. Obviously the peak of her character was in the RE2 remake, but she had other great moments too, I liked her a lot in the darkside chronicles, but also like Rebecca, it seems like the game doesn't always know how to use her character, or end up sidlining her for the male characters. Example, Code Veronica, she's fine, but she's way too broken up about Steve imo (maybe I just hate him) and once she's reunited with Chris she's kind of a player 2 to him. And in Revelations 2 she's kind of just a catalyst for change in Moira. And holy fuck don't get me started on how nerfed she was in Infinite Darkness. She is TOTALLY the B story to Leon's A story and even has her damsel in distress moment with the acid. I liked the ending of ID and I liked the story but I just wish there'd been more Claire.

Leon is fine, I love his character arc from RE2 to Vendetta and all the bits in between, I just think because he's so popular it gets exhausting lmao like Capcom knows how popular he is so they milk it for all it's worth and with there being so many fans there's obviously going to be a lot that I don't like/don't agree with. That's probably splitting hairs though, I do think he's the best-written and best handled RE character Capcom has by far

Jill Valentine my sweet summer child you deserve so much better. She's never been overly sexualized (if you don't count whatever the fuck was going on in RE5) which like. The bar is on the floor but something about Capcom's treatment of her character always kind of rubbed me the wrong way. The character herself is fantastic, do NOT get me wrong, I just wish Capcom had done things differently like not make her version of the RE1 playthrough "easy" mode or not incapacitated her for days in RE3 making her totally useless (not that I don't mind playing as Carlos, mind you) her popularity is well earned, I wish there was less fanart that sexualized her but whatever, and I love her friendship with Chris, definitely one of my top 3 platonic RE relationships.

Chris needs to stop being in so much RE content or I'm gonna go insane. There rlly was no reason to include him in RE7 other than to connect it more to the other games, but his "not a hero" dlc is pretty alright. Obviously his inclusion in 7 led to his role in 8 and oh my g-d I cannot forgive that ridiculous plot point of not telling Ethan about Miranda impersonating his wife. It's so dumb. His rivalry with Wesker never felt earned, but it was always entertaining to see. His rivalry with Arias was fucking stupid and completely unearned (I know they only had one movie to make it happen but still. I love that movie and hate it all at once) Also RE5 is unforgivable except for giving us Sheva so y'know Chris is a mixed bag for me.

Ada is a great character that gets treated like absolute shit. I love morally grey characters, and Ada is a great example of one, and the fandom almost always ruins her somehow, or Capcom finds ways to use her that I typically just personally don't like (like honestly that Ada clone shit in RE6 is ridiculous and totally unnecessary) She's done fantastically in RE2 remake which I love, and I'm honestly glad Capcom somewhat knew to pull the reigns when it came to the idea to have her in RE8 that was ultimately scrapped (it would've made no sense, it was ridiculous, I would not have liked it) so Ada is also another mixed bag for me. I also wish she had more of a connection to this stuff than (for the most part) Leon. Her mission doesn't always involve him, but she's only ever really there when he is, and it irks me.

Ethan Winters sucks and I don't like him and don't care about him and the whole RE7&8 fandom is wrong for liking them and yes that includes my boyfriend

This message has been sitting in my inbox for roughly 2 days and I’ve been going back and forth on whether to dignify it with a response or not. While I tend to ignore and delete hateful messages such as this and not give the coward behind them any form of the attention they crave, after careful consideration, I decided to abandon that belief because answering this question gives me a great opportunity to tell you about yourself and how wrong you are, sit back and get comfortable.

First of all, I’ll never understand how people who have 99% of a fandom blocked and filtered tags pertaining to what that fandom makes posts about and produces content for, still manage to make posts about what said fandom is doing, saying etc. Why do y’all make so much assumptions about a group of people you’ve sworn off all contact and interaction with for well over a year? How would you know what goes on in the Falice section of the fandom? So my main question here is, what’s the point of even using the block button against us if you’re still going to come to our blogs and goes through the tags to seek out what we’re up to? If these blocks weren’t in effect we could all have mature discussions instead of resorting to this, so I have to wonder, is it because the block button on your end prevents us from shutting down your bullshit so you can happily enjoy your idealistic totally pulled out of your ass version of Riverdale and it’s ships/characters? Hmm

Second of all, I can assure you no Falice fan is happy or even satisfied about their sudden reunion with no reconciliation or acknowledgement over what happened in 3x15, which we knew was bound to happen, hence why a lot of fics were produced back in the SUMMER containing the content we knew we were not going to get. Would we have loved to actually see FP apologise? Alice to punch him in the face? His reaction to Charles? A touching moment between all three after being reunited for the first time in 25 years? FP to practically grovel to Alice till he was on the brink of tears? Alice acting cold towards him? Heck yeah, we all at least wanted her to spit at him, I don’t know anyone who didn’t want her to act physically towards him, he deserved it, which is why we took our dreams to Wattpad and AO3. Personally I wanted a resentful anadonned child plot to play out where Charles initially hates Alice and we see that play out while they try to build a relationship. We have ranted, we have rambled, we have argued and we have moved on. We don’t watch this show with rose colored glasses and an idealistic perspective. We know it’s a joke and the writers are incapable of decent and realistic execution of development for friendships, relationships, break ups and reconciliations and use time jumps to avoid doing so, we’ve accepted that. We’ve made our peace with that, which is why we can still watch and find some enjoyment while you and others literally complain every single day over the most minor instances.

Thirdly, I admire your attempt to use the writers incompetence when it comes to writing relationships to push your “Falice is a mess who fucked once” arguement and even throwing in the 4x04 time jump matched with FP and Alice suddenly being together and little mention of Charles to put emphasis onto it. You’re trying to twist it into a Falice problem when it’s actually a Riverdale problem sweetheart, their problem with accurate story development and execution and just being lazy with any character and ship outside of Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead. If we want to go by that logic then I suppose by default Tom is a bad parent for being conveniently absent during his sons participation in a farm cult and not noticing his missing kidney despite being a cop thus immediately being able to pick up on that. I guess Sweet pea is a shit friend for “not saving” his bff from said cult and I guess Polly’s a bad mother for putting the same twins she was willing to run away from her family from to keep safe, up for adoption, and not even acknowledging their presence now or even having a say in who has custody of them. Of course none of these things are actually true, they’ve just unfortunately happened because of either plot convenience for the core four characters or just complete lack of care from the writers. Just the fact that they still seem to be in their newborn phase despite being nearly three years old according to the shows timeline says it all. They don’t care. As for “mess of a ship who only fucked once”, as much as you people love to clutch onto season one canon or what was established back then for dear life and disclaim 3x04, you sure do love to ignore certain parts of that season and keep 3x04 in your mouths when it comes to Falice. Seasons one and two always implied much more happened between Falice as teens than what 3x04 presented. You don’t go from telling someone you’d still sleep with them if they weren’t so stuck up, impulsively telling them to leave their spouse, doing a parole violating act to protect them, writing an apology letter despite being unable to strong two sentences together, talking about your kids making said mistakes you and your ex did and then snapping back with they weren’t all mistakes and having your heart broken upon seeing the woman you love return to her husband to “Yeah we just fucked once”. Falice were more than a one time thump, and that’s the canon I’m choosing to stick with, the same way you choose to believe Hal fathered Charles despite there NEVER being any implication through dialogue, backstory or characters that he was and there being a higher chance of the father being Tom or Fred before FP being a viable candidate. I’m not going to suspend belief of that just because the writers were more concerned with the sensationalism and “fun” aspect of the teen actors playing their parents, and essentially just doing dress up because none of their portrayals of their parents were accurate or even done to a high standard, Lili’s acting was decent but her acting is decent in general, Cole’s mannerisms were superb and KJ looked like Luke’s twin but outside of that, I didn’t see any of them as young versions of the parents and I promise nobody else did, and doing a storyline revolving around a bootleg Dungeons and Dragons game and making it borderline supernatural rather than just giving us a simple episode about the parents as teens based on the stories that have told on the show already.

You’re most likely a Halice or crackship that will never happen stan, you’ve got bigger priorities than FP and Alice and their relationship love which I’m sure has no impact on you or your faves whatsoever , maybe if you spent the time you did crying over Falice actually minding your business and shipping your ship you wouldn’t be so bitter.

The Path (Game)

I watched a Let’s Play of this game years ago, and still can’t get it out of my head.  Tell me what’s going on overall, or just focus in on one of the girls and tell me her story.  I’d rather not get too sexual with this one, but if you want to do a little creepy romance with one of the older girls and her wolf (the piano wolf or the motorcycle wolf in particular) go for it.  I’ll take a happy ending or a sad ending here, either one would fit.  And if you want to make any of the girls Jewish, feel free to go there...

This book was a revelation to me.  An actual practicing Jewish heroine!  Clearly explained economics!  Creepy fairies!  Heroine/villain romance!  Anything focusing on Miryem is good here, be it romantic and/or sexual with her fairy king, or simply a day in the life of being a clever moneylender.  And does she continue her job with other mythical creatures?

Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty: A Gothic Romance

Trite as it may be, I’m a sucker for heroine/villain/hero love triangles, and this ballet gave me exactly what I wanted.  So, tell me about Aurora!  Tell me about her love for Leo and/or Caradoc, her fear and desperation in captivity, or her adjustment to life as a vampire!  This is one where I’d be happy to see things get sexy (non or dubcon is okay where Caradoc is concerned) but please don’t feel obligated to go there.

The Masque of the Red Death (1964)

I was just reflecting on how much I love this movie, and thinking about how cool Francesca’s role is- she’s the ingenue, sure, but she also gets to argue with the villain and hold to her own philosophical beliefs.  You can give me more of those scenes, or tell me more about her love/hate dynamic with Prince Prospero.  And what if the religion she felt so strongly about had been Judaism?  How would that change the story in an alternate universe?

The Frisco Kid

I love this movie.  I love Avram and Tommy’s friendship- they’re just so sweet together!  I’d love to see more of them, be it gen friendship or slash.  And if you haven’t seen the movie, please take this as encouragement to do so.  Young Gene Wilder and young Harrison Ford!  It’s great!

Dracula- Bram Stoker

Dracula is my favorite novel and Mina Harker is my favorite character, so I’d love to see something about her and/or Lucy.  This could be a missing episode during the plot of the book, an episode after, or an alternate canon divergence universe.  I’m not too keen on the ‘Mina is Dracula’s reincarnated wife and/or Jonathan is evil’ trope, but otherwise I’m open to any sort of wackiness (or seriousness!)  If you’re looking for a way to fit Jewish culture into this prompt, tell me what happens when Jewish symbols are used against vampires.  Do they work?  What’s the theology and/or metaphysics behind what works?

There are lots of female characters to choose from here!  My fave is the Graverobber, but they’re all great.  Tell me a funny thing that happened in one of your games, or ship a lady with a partner of your choice (het or femslash are both fine), keep it restricted to the main game or bring in stuff from the Crimson Court or The Color of Madness.  Or even tell me a story about the Countess!

Twin Peaks

Look, I’ll come out and say it- I think the female characters were done dirty by the sequel and book materials, especially Audrey and Donna.  I’d like to think something positive could have happened to them in another universe (I’m neutral on Audrey/Dale, but having her forever pine after him after having been raped by his doppleganger and giving birth to a soulless child and married to a man she hates and confined to an asylum was a special kind of cruelty.)  So I’ll take fix fic, or if you just don’t want to touch that area at all, something nice happening to Donna, Audrey, Shelley or even Laura’s ghost during seasons 1 or 2 would be really nice.

Fallout: New Vegas

My Courier is female, so I’ll happily take fem!Courier fic, but I’d also enjoy something about Cass, Veronica or Lily.  I’d also love to think of my Courier as Jewish, and generally ship her with Boone, but any of these details are totally optional.  I just love this world- the characters, the dialogue, the complex political relationships- and I love getting to spend time there in fic.  Do something scary with our heroine(s) up against the Legion or do something fluffy about singing folksongs in the desert, I’ll love it either way!

English and Scottish Popular Ballads- Francis James Child

I’ll honestly take anything with this.  I love folk music, and I’d love to hear any of the ballads expanded on.  (Young Lord Hugh is, uh, probably not the easiest choice, but if you want to tell me how the Jewish villainess was actually framed, be my guest.)  There are so many intriguing women in these songs, just pick your favorite heroine or villainess and go for it!

Kushiel’s Legacy

I love every Night Court worldbuilding story I read!  I’d love to know about your favorite house, whether it’s one we’ve seen in action or not- what the hell do they do in Alyssum?  What’s it like for a Valerian adept who likes her job but doesn’t have Phaedre’s extreme masochism?  If you want to take on a bigger challenge, my biggest complaint about this series is that I really, really don’t like how they did the Jewish characters.  If you think you could write out a scenario with Jews in the world of Kushiel who aren’t either merged with Christians or poor lost souls just waiting for the light of Elua, please give it a try!

My thoughts: It’s an adorkable couple!

What makes me happy about them: Everything really. From comrades tracking Saren down, to helping each other in ME2, to romance, to calling Shep “love of my life” I die at that xD

What makes me sad about them: …My ending is control for my Shakarian couple. Garrus lives in a galaxy without his Shepard. :(

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: Garrus is too clingy, or too Paragon. Shepard is too cold or mean for no reason so no character growth. 

Things I look for in fanfic: I generally don’t go looking for something specific when I read fanfic. If the title and/or description captures my attention, i’ll read it. :)

My wishlist: I don’t understand this question. 

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: For my Shepard, Celestine, no one. For the way Celestine is, I just don’t picture anyone else with her. Garrus just suits her perfectly even though he was complete accident LOL. For Garrus I can picture him with Tali. I think they would be such a cute couple!

My unpopular opinion about this character: I don’t know if it’s unpopular but when he is against Loghain joining the order and says he will leave or marry Anora and not participate in the blight, is childish. 

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: That he would see the value in Loghain and know we need all people for the blight. Killing him would be a waste, despite what he did, the blight is the pressing issue at hand once order is restored and Anora didn’t deserve to see her father beheaded. Should have been a better way for that. 

Favorite friendship for this character: I love all the friendships with Alistair. I love all the characters. DAO is just amazing. I love them.

Jughead

How I feel about this character: My favorite resident of Riverdale, in nearly all comics versions. My fave versions: Archie (2015) and the classic ones where he trolls Reggie real good and the classic ones where he is THE BEST friend to Betty. Fave styles are Fiona Staples’ in the 2015 run, Joe Eisma’s in The Archies, and Samm Schwartz’s in the Classic runs. Derek Charm’s style is pretty cute, too. I wish we saw more of him in Annie Wu’s style. Anyway, he’s RIDICULOUS. I’ve loved him since I was a kiddo. It is still a hobby of mine to find gross food and comment that he would eat it. Seriously.

The 2015 run had a few times where it went into him a little more deeply and intimately that gave me FEELINGS which is RIDICULOUS. A favorite moment I think about a lot is when he talks to Archie about FEELINGS and how Archie is more bravely vulnerable with his heart.

My unpopular opinion about this character: uhhhhhhhhhh. I don’t really spend much time thinking about the war of what his identity was intended to be way back then because I have no idea and have no idea if there is anything out there in archives of creator input that would confirm that. I think there are a few classic stories with him out there though that are nice unconventional explorations on different types of relationships/friendships. 

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: He was a cheerleader with Betty in one story and I’d like that to be an actual permanent thing.

Betty

How I feel about this character: MY MAIN GIRL. Deserved a lot better than most of the material she got in Classic. The most interesting run with her by far is Archie (2015) at the start, and it’s a shame that it went the way it did. I liked her tomboyishness, but also liked that she wanted to explore glamming it up. I liked that the #LipstickIncident was about how it wasn’t appropriate for Archie to act like she couldn’t do that. It was refreshing after years of ~not like other girls~ type stories with tomboys or girls that are only becoming more “girly” to be popular. I related to it as well, since I also liked exploring different degrees of glam/lack of it in my personal style. 

Betty is all over the place in Classic runs in terms of personality--everywhere from scheming to Perfect Girl Next Door. The stories I like from her in these are the ones where she shows a strong friendship with Jughead.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Jug, in certain versions. Veronica in some versions. But I also really like the idea of her being single and thriving. So much of her material is over guys/relationships.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Jughead

My unpopular opinion about this character: Occasionally, I do like the idea of her being with Veronica (Vixens would be a good run for that, maybe?), but at the same time, not really? I don’t think they jive well in a lot of material tbh.

Veronica

How I feel about this character: I feel like Ronnie is a character that you can do so much with. She works really well in the Classic short strip format as the Rich Girl Snob/Mean Girl for comedy and shenanigans, but also works well at a deeper level with more layers in the modern adaptations. She can be flawed, but also have a strong sense of loyalty and sisterhood. She has a lot of opportunity for places to start from to grow and be interesting. That said, I love classic Ronnie a lot. Vampironica is awesome and I love her. My favorite styles for her are Bob Montana’s original style once it smooths out from the kind of scratchy style at the start of the newspaper strips, Harry Lucey, Joe Eisma (modern runs), Greg Smallwood (Vampironica), and Audrey Mok (modern runs).

Top 10 Favorite Characters

I saw @jandjsalmon​‘s post about the top 10 favorite characters, and that spurred @virtual-insomnia​ and I to do the same. Different from the favorite ‘ships list from last time, this wasn’t a “without description” post.

So, in no particular order, my favorite fictional characters:

Jo March -- I read this book so much as a kid, and Jo was the best! She was strong and unafraid to be herself, and she was a writer! Unlike a lot of people I know, I was never upset that she didn’t marry Laurie. I was only disappointed when she gave up on her writing, but she did end up an author in the end. :-) The Wynona Ryder version was good, but I’ve got to see those new adaptions that came out recently.

Thor -- I love Thor so much that I’ve never even cared that I don’t really ship him with anyone. He is great all on his own. I will also forever claim him for Hufflepuff. He might be brave, but he’s also loyal, a good friend, supportive, a huge nerd, really smart (tree language as an elective, people!), and he takes care of people. I can’t wait for movie 4!

Lorelai Gilmore -- I have loved this fast talking lady ever since my first episode of Gilmore Girls. The mother/daughter triangle Lorelai had with Rory and Emily was the most compelling set of relationships in the whole show.

Xander Harris -- He’s funny, sweet, supportive. Never developed magic powers (save a miscast spell or two), but was willing to do whatever it took to save the world anyway. And he did it without a lot of recognition. He really was the heart of the Scooby Gang.

Peggy Carter -- This chick doesn’t take crap from anyone, and she knows her own value even in the face of a world that doesn’t want to recognize it. Natasha and Carol are cool and all, but to me Peggy is the true BAMF woman in the MCU.

Logan Echolls -- I’m a sucker for the reformed bad boy character, and Logan totally embodies that. He leapt off the screen back in season 1 as someone you loved to hate, but then became a character I just loved. His character growth is amazing. He just barely edged Veronica herself off the list. I can’t believe I haven’t gotten to watch the new season yet! Why do I have to wait on these other people?!

Alanna of Trebond -- Add another for the BAMF chicks portion of this list. Alanna knew what she wanted, and she went for it, no matter what anyone else said. No female knights, no problem--just pretend to be a boy. If you need someone to kill an evil sorcerer, complete an impossible quest, or face down a god, she’s your girl! There wasn’t a Y/A section when I was a teen, but Alanna was there for me anyway. (Sadly, there were no .gifs of her--why don’t they make her books into a series or a movie already?)

Adrian Ivashkov -- Another snarky, reformed bad boy. He was my favorite character in the Vampire Academy series, long before he had his own POV. I was so excited when he got his own series, and it did not disappoint. His character growth from the rich boy who doesn’t care to a loving, supportive partner and someone willing to fight for what he believes in completely sucked me in. He and Sydney were amazing together and felt more real to me than the high drama of Rose and Dimitri. I loved Sydney once she got her own POV in Bloodlines, but Adrian leapt off the page even as a minor supporting character, which is why he’s on the list and not her. (Again with books not having good .gifs, lol.)

Steve Harrington -- I had no idea how much I would fall in love with the Stranger Things series. Great characters; great stories! But Steve is my favorite. Again with the character growth, and Dad!Steve is so fun. He’s also supportive of his friends and he will risk his life to save theirs, even when they treat him like crap. And when he realized he was being an ass, he fixed it on screen. Steve edged out my other ST fave, Billy Hargrove, only because I love Steve in canon and the reformed bad boy I love in Billy is more a fannon creation (though Season 3 did bring some of that to life... before he met his untimely end *sobs*).

Bucky Barnes -- I really waffled on this one. Coming back to the MCU three times might be a bit excessive, but Bucky is just so compelling. Stories about friendship are just as important to me as stories about romance, and Bucky, IMO, is one of the truest friends there is. He was unapologetically Steve’s friend before Steve was cool, he went back to war for Steve time and time again, and he threw off 70 years of brainwashing with just a look at Steve. (Too bad Steve decided to run away to an alternate dimension instead of stay with his friend, but it seemed to me like Bucky even supported Steve in that.) Don’t get me wrong, I love the Stucky ship, too, but Bucky is a fascinating character either way, and I’m so excited about his show coming up!

Honorable Mentions

Man, it was so hard to narrow down this list. A few characters that it was really hard to cut were Jughead Jones (if we were just talking Season 1, he probably would’ve been on the list), Penny Lane (ultimate scene stealer), Cath Avery (Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl, read it!), Cordelia Chase (ah, the character growth!), Alex Manes (2019--too new to stand the test of time), Darcy Lewis (like Billy, my love for her comes more from fannon)... But, that just means there are a lot of good characters out there to enjoy. I hope I keep finding more!

Unpopular Opinion:  I enjoyed season 8

So first, I’m mostly doing this to sort out my own feelings, but I DO think there are some things worth considering here.

To be clear, Enjoying something and thinking that something was perfect are different.  I enjoy plenty of things that are garbage and I do think this season had it’s fair share of flaws, but it’s not nearly as awful as some of ya’ll are ripping into it over.  In addition, regardless of if it is bad or not harassment of the creators is never justified.  EVER.  So if you feel the need to take out your frustrations on the cast/crew stop what you are doing then DON’T.

Why I was able to enjoy it:

Three major things I always keep in mind going into a new season:

1.  Don’t watch it FOR the ship, enjoy the show for what it is.  I think the primary thing that has allowed me to enjoy each season is I try to watch it without shipping goggles.  At the end of the day, shipping is fun but it is for fandom and not the reason I’m watching the show, especially a show made for 7 year old boys.  

2.  I (along with most of the fandom on this website) am not the target audience for this show.  Voltron may be an abnormally good kids show, but it is still a kids show.  I have never walked into a season thinking that it is content made for me, and the things that are important to me just aren’t important enough to 7 year olds to have the time I want spent on them.  I have to be okay with that because as much as I would love to have a whole episode of Shiro really struggling with what it means to be a leader, and the weight of Adam’s sacrifice, the 7 year old this show was made for is going to be bored shitless and decide “I don’t want that Voltron toy for my birthday after all.”  So yeah, that is going to change the choices the crew makes when they create these episodes.

3.  This is a reboot.  Several different companies have BIG stakes in Voltron.  Things like LGBT rep are only going to go as far as ONE important old white man who thinks (insert your fave here) is straight.  Anybody who has followed me for more than 3 seconds knows I ship Sheith, but knowing how the entertainment industry works changed how I thought the direction of the series was going from day one.  If it was so hard for them to get even ambiguous ‘Takashi, how much do I mean to you’ when both Shiro and Adam are legally original characters, there is NO WAY the powers that be will allow them to gay up big names in the franchise like Keith or Lance.  For that reason I never expected a canon gay relationship between any of the main characters.  No Sheith, no Klance, no Pallura, no Hance.  I do believe it was important to the creators and they did they absolute best with what they had, but ultimately it was not their decision and a lot of ya’ll need to stop acting like you are performing some kind of holy service by harassing them about it.  They did their jobs as best they could and the fandom was pressuring them the whole time to make promises they didn’t know if they could keep.

For these reasons I was able to enjoy the new season for what it was: a reboot aimed toward children that I shouldn’t expect a primary romantic plot out of.  And honestly?  Thats what I got.  The only big romantic plot revolved around Lance and Allura and even that was only a handful of scenes.  I think the main problem with this fandom has always been people putting unrealistic expectations on a show that wasn’t aimed at them.  Why people chose to put all of their expectation eggs in the Voltron basket specifically is beyond me, and frankly a bit unfair to the people who made it.  But we don’t have to get into that right now.

Things that I enjoyed:

1.  Hunk is best boy.  I loved his and Lance's friendship shining through and when he turned into team mom.  Some highlight include:  “It’s happening tonight, young man!” “I’m sorry I yelled at you.  I’ll make you dog treats later.”  When he made that Altean dessert because he is so sweet and knows how to bring people together.  What a star, what a diplomat, what a fine, fine man. 2.  BaBy LoToR 3.  Seeing all the paladins in their under armor.  I would feel robbed because Shiro was left out but the entire series has been Shiro fan service so I’m not even mad. 4.  VERONICA AND AXCA BONDING?  NICE.  Didn’t expect to ship them?  I do.  Nice. 5.  Everything about Day Fourty-Seven.  A filler episode I genuinely enjoyed.  MY only wish is we could have gotten Keith and Krolia in an interview together and she went out of her way to embarrass him like “while we were in the Quantum Abyss-” “Mom, why are you doing this to me?” “I have 20 years of Mothering to catch up on, young man.” 6.  Shiro feeling like a bad ass and looking cool during the arm wrestling competition.  What a good. 7.  This was really Allura’s season, wow, what a queen. 8.  Keith giving Lance a bunch of pep talks and opening up to become not only a good leader but a good friend. 9.  Keith YELLING at the Zarkon mech because he had leadership responsibility feels. 10.  I did not expect to have FEELINGS over seeing young Zarkon. 11.  Honerva’s motivations were honestly....so honest.  So realistically human, you know?  It seems so fitting that this whole thing began with a rift into another reality, and a broken family.  And it ended with a rift into another reality, and that family finally being able to be at peace.  That is the theme that has been following us form the beginning: family.  And even the final villain just wanted to fix the damage that had been done to hers.  Though I do feel like her turnaround was a little quick, I can forgive it for kinds show reasons. 12.  Allura getting to hug Alfor again. 13.  Lance getting the stamp of approval from the dad. 14.  Speaking of which, even I thought the Allurance scenes were pretty cute despite not being a huge fan of the ship. 15.  The character development that is evident.  If you compare all these characters to who they were in E1S1 they are all vastly different.  The only exception to this is Coran, though I do feel like Allura’s is mostly internal and she has a way of conducting herself that can make it difficult to perceive. 16.  I am VERY SAD about Allura dying...but you know what?  I think this ending actually suited her.  I don’t think she would be satisfied withotu making a grand reality wide sacrifice.  She restored Altea, and returned into the fabric of space-time itself with her family.  This has been being foreshadowed since Season 1 to be honest.  She is always taking risks and wanting to keep moving and bettering things.  She is perfect and we don’t deserve her and in my heart she is the goddess of reality itself. 17.  The scene where the lions all came to life and flew away, and then that lovely art of them going into the rift.  I really think they went back to Allura, and the next time the Universe needs Voltron, it will be her spirit leading the way.  And honestly?  I don’t think she would want it any other way. 18.  The MFE Pilots grew on me... 19.  MMMMMBIG ROBOT PRETTY 20.  We got Shiro and the rest of the paladins piloting all together again. 21.  ALMOST Galra Emperor Keith.

The things I didn’t think were great:

1.  What the fuck happened to Ezor’s voice?  She only said one word and I thought she was dying? 2.  Keith and Shiro like...didn’t even talk.  And even without shipping goggles that just seems wrong to me.  Their bond has been one of the points the story has turned on.  We got all the build up but none of the payoff.  No shoulder touches, no ‘I’m proud of you, Keith’, none of the usual friendship or dynamic they usually have with each other.  It felt kind of empty honestly :(  And whats more is...Keith has been sacrificing and fighting and loving Shiro for 7 seasons now, and Shiro never got to repay him.  Like he wasn’t in his hospital room when he woke up and nobody can fucking tell me when Shiro said “spend time with the people you love” Keith wouldn’t be spending time with Shiro.  It just....feels so dissatisfying to see one of the major emotional bonds in the show not even be acknowledged in the end.  It makes everything Keith worked for feel...not...there.  Like what did all that mean in the end?  As many times as it takes but he gives and gives and gives and the only one who returns what he gives is Krolia.  It used to be Shiro returned it too, but now...  Even without it being romantic, their relationship was done a dirty.  I didn’t need canon Sheith I just needed some kind of acknowledgement that all the suffering they endured was worth it.  I wanted to see them happy. 3.  Despite what I said above I am sad Allura is gone. 4.  Shiro was hardly in the season at all actually :((((((((((((((((((( 5.  Yeah, as cute as the scenes were I’ve never felt Allura and Lance have a chemistry that makes their relationship sit well with me.  But I guess it was necessary to show how Lance has matured as a person.  I always thought they have the POTENTIAL for chemistry but it’s always fallen short for me.  Allura just takes her life too seriously and her walls never actually came down enough for me to see a connection there. 6.  James and Keith never like...talked?  I would have liked for them to have had a reconciliation like Keith and Lance did. 7.  Lack of Krolia. 8.  Something was off about Kolivan’s voice 9.  TBH, I feel like The real fulfillment for Keith’s arc would have been his teammates encouraging and lifting him up as well.  Display his emotional availability which was completely closed off at the start.  I feel like they may have just dropped the ball on a couple of character’s arc resolution but...eh.  You gotta pick and choose what to focus on when you have an ensemble cast, and 7 year olds just aren’t always interested in that. 10.  Woulda been nice to get a bit more detail on the nature of the rift creatures and some more clarity for a through line from the beginning thousands of Years ago to now.  Along with that exactly what kind of entity IS Voltron itself?  A lot of seeds planted that made a half attempt at being resolved but weren’t quite clear enough to create something cohesive. 11.  I can’t put my finger on why but overall it just feels...Incomplete.  Like there is still a pit in my stomach that doesn’t feel satisfied by the ending.  I’m not sure how much of that is the season itself, and how much is I’ve been involved in this show for nearly 2 years and it’s hard to let go, especially on something that doesn’t quite feel like going out with a bang.

Highly unpopular opinion in my neck of the woods:

That wedding at the end?  I’m happy about it.  Do I think its bad writing to marry off one of your main five to a rando we don’t even know the name of?  Yes.  Am I annoyed that the fandom was SO awful and so accusatory toward the showrunners they felt the need to shoehorn in a last minute wedding because they honestly felt bad when the truth is this has always been a glorified ship war?  MEGA YES.  They shouldn’t have felt like they had to make this bad writing decision on the behalf of fans who have treated them and their efforts like shit.  Shame on the people who treated them this way.  They tried so FUCKING hard to give us something and ya’ll threw it away and called them evil.  I get how you feel but damn why don’t YOU try to make social change happen in the entertainment industry and see how well your LGBT paradise vision goes over when there are dozens of other people with a say.  (I could go on about how poorly that was handled on both ends, but that is another point altogether.)

More than anything, I’m happy that some 7 year old kid who LOVES the badass Captain Takashi Shirogane is going to see him get married on screen and kiss a MAN.  Like holy shit, that is HUGE.  Do I think it could have been written better?  Absolutely.  But This show wasn’t made for me it was made for the 7 year kid out there is going to think “Shiro kissed a boy, maybe I’m not weird for wanting to kiss boys” and THAT is what Representation in children’s media is all about.  I’m going to celebrate this and everything else related to Shiro’s LGBT status because what matters to me way more than ships or satisfying romantic arcs is maybe when my little nephew sees his favorite character is gay he will be a little more open and comfortable when I bring my girlfriend to family dinner.

I think it would do the fandom (especially the Sheith shippers) some good to step back, take off their shipping goggles, and recognize this for the stride in Children’s media that it is. That being said I’m gonna be reading and writing the fix-it fics along with the rest of you, because fandom and how I enjoy the show can be whatever I want.

The conclusion and why I still love Voltron:

You know what?  Yes I felt a little let down by the writing, but Voltron is one of the first fandoms I’ve been so involved in and I have had such wonderful experiences while enjoying this show.  I’m never going to let some dissatisfaction ruin this for me.  The nice thing about fandom, is I can enjoy my version of the show however I want it, and it doesn’t have to effect how I feel about canon at all.  And when I take off my fandom goggles, this season was actually pretty enjoyable.

I encourage anybody who has enjoyed the show up to this point to put your bitterness aside and do what you’ve been doing from the start.  Create some content, consume some content, ship what you want, and don’t you dare let anybody ruin this for you.  You have good memories with this show, keep them good and move froward.

Miles Morales in the Into The Spider-Verse fandom (I’m counting it as two different things just bc I wanna sip Loving Miles Morales juice okay??). I don’t even know where to start with him because he’s just so amazing. On top of being Relatable af, he’s just so damn cute. The animators deserve every single award there is (but like also CONGRATS ON THE WIN!!!!!!!) He was so brave and kind and strong and adorable and he kept on GETTING UP and he loves his parents so much and he loved his uncle too and also he’s so creative???? He’s Perfect

1. What’s the meaning of your name? Does it suit you?

Rosemary doesn’t seem to have a specific meaning, although of course it’s an herb, and Rosemary is for remembrance, which is hilarious given my memory problems. Mary means bitter, so some name meaning sites say the meaning of my name is “bitter rose” which I guess is a nice combo of sweet and sad, which I would not really classify myself as. So, no, the various meanings of my name do not suit me.

The name itself? Does. I love my name, and while most people can’t be bothered with a 3 syllable name in casual conversation, my preference is to be called Rosemary and not Rose. Rose does not feel like me.

2. What’s a movie you never get tired of?

A lot of movies fit under this category, but the movie I have probably seen the most amount of times and can still watch either in full or in chunks and still enjoy every single second of no matter what is Dirty Dancing. 

3. Your favourite movie soundtrack?

Are we talking soundtrack as in collection of songs used in the movie and put into an album, or as in score for the movie, or?

Because nothing but nothing beats the Star Wars scores for me. Well, original and prequels and TFA anyway - the last two have diverged quite a bit which has felt odd to me but whatever. [Second place would be the scores for the 70/s80s Superman movies - also John Williams of course]

Although if we’re considering soundtracks of musicals, then I’m gonna be reduced to flailing and just naming half a dozen or so, so we’ll just pretend that’s not part of the question. 

4. How would you describe your personal style?

Accidental? I pretty much just buy things that I find interesting, and then put things together that seem interesting to me, and then end up with some pretty ... interesting outfits. One of my roommates actually described my look yesterday as “crazy” if that tells you anything.

Think colors that don’t quite match, conflicting patterns, stripey socks, chunky jewelry, and then at times like now at the end of winter when I haven’t shaved my head in awhile - short floppy hair that is sticking up in all directions that I swear I tried to tame but it just doesn’t take. 

5. Name a fictional crush.

Spike from Buffy. Also Buffy from Buffy. And put them together? Double crush. 

6. What’s your motto?

I don’t really have a motto, per se, but I do have a mantra, which is: love, peace, joy, hope. Those are the qualities I try to embody, embrace, spread, whatever. All four are of equal importance to me. 

7. Are you a gamer?

If by gamer, you mean obsessively playing the Sims, then yes. But most people who consider themselves gamers would probably say no.

8. Would you rather spend time on a secluded beach or at a fancy cocktail party?

How about a fancy cocktail party on a secluded beach? Too much sand in the drinks, never mind.

Ah, these are both problematic for me. I don’t do so well with being completely alone, especially without some kind of distraction or diversion. I guess if I had a book with me on the beach, I’d be okay for a little while, but I’d also get uncomfortable super fast if there wasn’t, like, a comfy sofa or something to recline on. 

And I also don’t do well with fancy, or come to think of it with cocktails since I can’t drink any more with the meds I have to take. 

But, if I had to choose, I’d probably pick the party. I’d be dressed inappropriately (probably something with loud colors and polka dots?), and sitting in the corner mostly people watching, and I’d get overwhelmed and head home early, but still. 

9. Recommend a television series.

oohhhoooomygods just ONE?

I’ve rec’d this one many times, but since it just came back for season two last night (I haven’t watched the ep yet - it’s next on my list), I’m gonna recommend Imposters to you all again.

Imposters is a lil show with a small but dedicated fandom on Bravo. 

It stars Inbar Lavi (Prison Break, The Last Ship) as a con woman and Rob Heaps (Home Fires, And Then There Were None), Parker Young (Arrow, Suburgatory), and  Marianne Rendón (Mapplethorpe) as three of the people who she has swindled. Additionally, Brian Benben (Private Practice, Dream On), Stephen Bishop (Being Mary Jane), Chastity Dotson (Pitch, Veronica Mars), and Denise Dowd (Secrets and Lies, Beverly Hills 90210) star. 

The story of season one is that these three scorned exes find one another and begin a quest to find the woman they all alternately view as their loving spouse and the cruel con who stole everything from them. Along the way, they learn some cons of their own, gain back some of their confidence, and of course discover the power of friendship. 

There are many twists and turns along the way which I won’t spoil for anyone who wants to watch season 1 for themselves, but it involves cons within cons within cons and unlikely teammates. 

Also - Uma Thurman as a hitwoman.

As the finale of season one had our three scorned exes riding off together into the sunset, I am very excited to see where season two leads us. Seriously, you have to watch this show.

10. Do you have any phobias?

Boy howdy, do I! I have OCD, which often comes with phobias as part of the anxiety which leads to some of the obsessive compulsions. [FELLOW PHOBES MIGHT WANNA SKIP THIS PART - PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOURSELVES.]

I have a slight germ phobia which I mostly don’t go deep into because I don’t have the energy to do what I’d need to do to feel better about it so I just make myself not-think about it really hard, but the underlying anxiety is Still There. 

This is especially true of what I call “poop germs” - which is anything that has ever been inside of a bathroom ever. This makes, you know, having to use bathrooms very upsetting and problematic for me, so again, I deploy my aggressive pretending it’s not there as much as I can, but poop germs can cause me to break down into tears on a bad day. Fun times!

I’m also an emetophobe, which means I’m terrified of throwing up - a fun little phobia to have when you have constant low-grade nausea which occasionally flares up to higher-grade, lemme tell ya.

Another biggie is infestation of any kind - so any kind of insect or small animal that comes into my home. Like, I am absolutely fine seeing these critters outside where they belong - I might even oooh and aaah. But the second I see one INSIDE - I’m screaming bloody murder and waking up the entire apartment complex. 

I’ve worked real hard at being less scared of the harmless single bugs that enter a home, especially the kind that EAT other bugs - so for example I am perfectly fine with spiders (being obsessed with Charlotte’s Web as a kid helps), and even centipedes after the initial screaming over how creepy they look is done. And I’ve gotten where I look insects up on websites that identify bugs and talk about them in positive/scientific ways and have stopped panicking about certain bugs and their larvae now as I can tell which ones are and aren’t actually harmful or prone to infestation. BUT. I’m still prolly gonna scream when I initially see them because eaauughhss. 

Those are the main ones, but the fun thing about OCD is that new ones develop all the time if you don’t stay vigilant about letting those obsessive thoughts do their thang, so I try real hard to ignore those news segments and articles about bringing black lights into hotel rooms and about all of the horrible ways people are committing violent crimes these days and other terrifying and/or gross things that might creep their ways into my fear center. 

11. What’s your rarest rarepair?

Oh, good question. I don’t tend to have rarepairs because the way I fandom is deep immersion into canon and not necessarily delving into fanon/fanfic. So even my non-canon ships tend to be ones that the canon itself at least played with a little bit or that the fandom-at-large has talked about enough that I start to see it. lol

I’m having trouble even thinking about a ship I have that could be classified as rare? It would probably be something involving Spike because I ship that fool with pretty much everyone he’s ever shared screentime with because he is just so yummy, and because Marsters was just really good about getting his character to bring interesting things out of whatever characters he was interacting with, and because he’s clearly so omnisexual that he just oozes chemistry with everyone he meets, but like. I’m also definitely not the only one who sees all that about him and also is shipping him left right and center. So. I’ll just toss out Spike/Harmony because I’ve never heard of anyone else who actually liked them together ha!

CW, I love Riverdale. And I love the characters. But what I don't like is the shit you've been giving us recently. I mean.. . I can take the bughead with a grain of salt I can handle the blatant queer bait with beronica I am OK with beronica being best friends. And prioritising her development- because god bless I can even DEAL with whatever fucking hetero ships you throw at my fave involving betty and veronica separately. i love his ridiculous dedication to his aesthetic, i love his shitty novel, i love how much he loves his sister, i love his fwoopy bangs, i love how his reaction to being told his best friend is fucking their teacher is “wow dude sounds like you’re the victim of a sexual predator, do you need help?” rather than a high five, i love the way he delivers one-liners like he’s kind of trying not to laugh at his own jokes

let me tell you about THE SCENE CONFIRMING KEVIN AND VERONICA’S QUEERPLATONIC LIFE PARTNERSHIP IN WHICH THEY GO ON MARRIED FRIEND DATES

honestly, and i truly have no excuse for this, you said “what is your favorite scene” and the VERY FIRST THING that popped into my head were these moments with ronnie and kev in the back of his father’s truck, which is ridiculous, mostly because they’re not even really a scene

but it’s just. it is so fucking satisfying, man. look at these precious babies. look at how many blankets they’re under. not only is her head on his shoulder (HERE’S ANOTHER LOOK FROM THAT ANGLE) but EVERY PART OF HER is touching EVERY PART OF HIM. he is SITTING on her CAPE. do you have any idea how much trust that entails?

what strikes me about this moment is that Riverdale is succeeding at convincing me that these kids--any of these kids, really, not just kevin and veronica--are friends. that they all enjoy spending time together, that if there weren’t a murder going on they would still see each other, and that they care about each other. ironically, on a lot of teen soaps the friendships are the first thing to be ignored or cut for time, because they’re not juicy and “don’t lead to conflict” (untrue). kevin isn’t even in the core four, and yet, here he is: taking out his best girl because there’s no other out kids except veronica at his school and this show cares about kevin and what kevin does! they could have had veronica suspiciously follow hermione to the drive in and start her conflict with her mom over fred andrews early, but no. they wanted her to have a night out with her gay husband buddy.

kevin and veronica are the kind of friends who made a marriage pact two days into knowing each other. kevin and veronica are the kinds of friends who meet each other’s eyes when they find the same things funny but it would be impolite to laugh. MY KINGDOM FOR AU WHERE KEVIN AND VERONICA BEARD FOR EACH OTHER BUT THEN, WHILE FAKE DATING, BECOME BEST FRIENDS. 

and like yes, unless veronica is actually queer (which she is) her calling kevin her best gay and--more than that--interrupting his interruption to be like “GAY THANK GOD LET’S BE BEST FRIENDS” is a little bit abhorrent. but looking past the ridiculous stereotyping, what strikes me most is that when veronica says let’s be best friends she means it. she’s team kevin now, ride or die. 

this moment shows riverdale at its best: taking a shit ton of cliched tropes but blending them in a new way and showing them with a lens of kind of delightfully unexpected compassion.

...anyway

it occurs to me that, despite finding my way back to it at the end, this is much less a rant about an actual scene and much more a rant about how much i love the friendship between veronica and kevin, but i’m sorry i love it that much. 

so i’m gonna try harder now on the next one

there are a lot of one-liners and moments i almost picked, even though, once again, those are not scenes (when jughead narrated that there were really only three kids in that booth and we all went IS JUGHEAD A GHOST, “slut shaming is when SLUTS get SHAMED,” “train to the rest of my life,” veronica’s face when betty comes out in the dominatrix gear, “that doesn’t SOUND like complete freedom,” PUSSYCAT RONNIE, fp jones saying he doesn’t want jughead to look at him like he’s garbage anymore....)

but then a dark horse candidate emerged:

let me tell you about the moment i realized ONE DAY I WILL BE ABLE TO LOVE ARCHIE

this show has an archie problem. so dedicated were they to proving that they weren’t going to do the classic love triangle, they made it so that archie barely interacts with half his friend group at all. isolating archie from everyone else with the grundy plot set this show back ages, and made archie almost totally irrelevant to the ensemble he ostensibly leads

but then we got this moment of hope:

“okay Leah yes we get it you like it when these idiot teens are friends”

this was the first hint that this show would succeed at gaining my love beyond betty and veronica. and i didn’t appreciate it at the time aside from OH LOOK ARCHIE HAS A PERSONALITY I LIKE TODAY, THAT’S NICE, but in hindsight it really is quite significant. archie and jughead are supposed to be the heart of this show; it’s good to see them act like it.

and jughead is also a sarcastic little shit and he’s my son and i love him

A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE:

third place goes to the scene with betty, jughead and kevin rebuilding the murder wall and then trev shows up, which hilariously of all three of these might ACTUALLY be my real favorite scene of the whole show, for all the reasons i listed about a) the other two above and b) what i’m about to say below. sadly, though, this makes my love for it redundant and i’ve already repeated myself so much, so i’ll move on to...

i’m gonna be real with you i adore these two. i’m not fandom-y about them at all, because right now what the show is giving me is JUST RIGHT: two kids with chemistry who care about each other! we’re watching them take it slow and feel it out!

i dig the gentle vibe between them, and how they are interested in each other but mostly because they are both interested in JUSTICE and THE TRUTH and MYSTERIES

bless these idiot teen sleuths! i hope they get married and betty becomes a lawyer-slash-journalist and jughead becomes a private-eye-slash-novelist and together they start a firm called COOPER JONES INVESTIGATIONS and they solve crimes and are married, like Hart to Hart

Omg, I feel like we disagree on a lot of things when it comes to Riverdale but I have a lot of feelings. I love the show but there is so much they could be doing so much better.

my all-time ultimate fave character: I DON’T KNOW. I really love Veronica, Val, Reggie, and Josie all a lot. I think Reggie would have probably edged the rest of them out if it hadn’t been for him being recast :’( What will I do with my life now that Ross Butler is only in one show? But I’m going to go with my girl Josie because she doesn’t get enough love. She’s ambitious, talented, and she makes time for friendship in spite of that. She just needs more screen time.

a character I didn’t used to like but now do: ALICE COOPER! Alice is such a bitch but she rocks it so hard. 

a character I used to like but now don’t: I’m not very happy with Archie now for screwing up him and Val for me in ONE EPISODE! As much as I’m weirdly coming around to Archie/Ronnie, I’m v upset about this.

a character I’m indifferent about: Cheryl. I don’t hate her but I’m not all YASSSS LIPSTICK ON POINT, QUEEN DRAG THEM like everyone else is. I find it hard to sympathize with her other than the fact that her parents are psycho.

a character who deserved better: REGGIE MANTLE. DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED! THIS IS ALL I’M GOING TO BE YELLING ABOUT FOR THE NEXT YEAR. REGGIE DESERVED ROSS. I DESERVED ROSS AS REGGIE, WE ALL DID.

a ship I’ve never been able to get into: Lmao, I want to say Bughead but I just straight up hate them and I don’t think that counts? I also don’t get why people are crack-shipping Jughead/Cheryl at all? I guess I don’t care about the Hermione/Fred/Mrs. Andrews love triangle at all and that’s the thing they’re trying to make me into.

a ship I’ve never been able to get over: BERONICA! ARCHERIE! I mean, I’m just going to sing Rolling in the Deep about those two forever, because that’s the real OT4 right there. But also, yesterday I realized that Reggie/Veronica was sometimes a thing in the comics and that made me VERY UPSET! Especially because of this “it is said that Veronica is the only other person to evoke any kind of emotion in Reggie other than himself“. Like, I don’t really want Veronica/boys but if it has to be a thing, I WANT ROSS BUTLER AND CAMILA MENDES’ COMBINED PRETTINESS ON MY SCREEN!

a cute, low-key ship: I ship Alice Cooper and Mr. Jones. I REALIZE THE FACT THAT THIS IS MY CUTE SHIP IS FUCKED UP BUT I AM WHO I AM.

an unpopular ship but I still enjoyed it: ??? I think this is one of those weird cases where literally everything I ship fandom ships too in the case of Beronica being the ship everyone wants to be a thing. I guess I think Cheryl and Chuck kind of deserve each other and IDK if Cheryl/Jason is unpopular but LBR SHE WAS IN LOVE WITH HIM. I don’t really ship it, but I enjoy things like Veronica bringing it up at parties.

a ship that was totally wrong and never should have happened: Oh look, here’s the spot for Bughead. It’s rushed, forced, I hate Jughead (mostly bc I hate Cole), he’s supposed to ace, and emotionally abusive after that thing at his party where he made her feel like shit for trying to do a NICE THING for him. And then like a week later she loves him. I’M VERY MAD ABOUT EVERYTHING THIS SHOW CHOOSES TO DO WITH BETTY AND THEN I GET MADDER EVERY WEEK!

my favourite storyline/moment: I really liked seeing Josie and her story line with her dad and seeing Val choose the Pussycats over Archie. I also enjoyed Veronica going out clubbing as a form of communication with her mother. I also love Cheryl slapping Jughead next week in the promo and I don’t care what the context is.

a storyline that never should have been written: BUGHEAD. The answer to all these questions. Also, I wish they hadn’t made Archerie romantic yet if they were going to kill it so fast, it gives Archie a very predatory seeming vibe after he goes after her at the party and then kisses Veronica like two hours later. And then the whole following Veronica around and pushing her to date him this week did not help my opinion on that.

Spotlight #19 - SeraphofShadows (Seraph)

1. Tell us a bit about yourself: Hi~ I’m Veronica, or better known on here as Seraph. I’m a 21 year old Australian who has way too much free time on her hands and loves spending a lot of that free time drawing things that I love.

2. When did you get into the fandom and how did you stumble upon it? I saw someone on tumblr reblog an update from the comic about 2 years ago now and I was intrigued so I clicked on the blog and ended up reading the entire thing. The fandom specifically came about 6 months later when I drew my first artwork of Angel Mike.

3. Who are your favorite characters/pairings? Favourite character is without a doubt angle Mike despite the fact that I also want to punch his face half the time. I love him. Aside from him, I really love Lucifer and Nat. I don’t actually ship anyone ( surprise surprise) and just want them all to be happy and friends with each other instead please. I need that friendship in my life.

4. Favorite moment in the comic? I know everyone always says run but .. considering my favourite is angel Mike, the one moment that stands out for me is when Nat runs into Mike and Gabe at the coffee shop right in the early days of the comic. Because first off, I love that Nat is so not amused by Mike (who is also so confused by that)  and the way Luce reacts to the whole thing is amazing as well.

 5. What is your biggest inspiration as far as your art goes? One of the things that inspires me the most is concept art. I wouldn’t say my art really reflects that but I have about 5 art books for various movies and games which always inspire me to draw more whenever I look at them. One day I’d love to become a concept artist so that style is something I want to work on in the future but regardless, it is still something that inspires me a lot.

 6. What would you say is your favorite piece that you’ve done so far? For Satan and Me, my favourite piece would definitely be this one that I did as a request and it got so out of hand.. But I had a lot of fun doing it and it provided a great challenge. It’s probably the closest I’ve ever come to being able to draw exactly what I had imagined.

 7. What would you say is one of your favorite things to draw/write? Anyone who has followed me for long enough probably knows the answer to this. I love drawing portraits of my fave characters. Portraits, portraits and more portraits. And with these portraits, I love to play around with colour schemes a bit and test things out. It’s a really fun thing to do.

8. What do you think influences your art style? This is a difficult question for me. I don’t have any one artist or style of art that influences me. However, I do really love the use of colour in art and that is something I try and bring to every artwork I do. Playing around with bright green lighting vs cold blue lighting vs warm orange lighting is a ton of fun and I feel it’s something that makes my portraits a little bit more unique to. So that is certainly something I try and bring across in my art style and the love of colours has influenced the way I draw.

9. What are some of your hobbies you enjoy? Aside from art, I spend my free time mostly playing League of legends (I know I know - but I have a group of friends I play with and I have a ton of fun with it. I also am so in love with some of the character designs from it *cough* kindred and aurelion sol *cough*). I also work on cosplays, sometimes I do some writing, and I’ve also recently gotten into D&D. I’m actually partway through writing my own D&D campaign for my friends! 

10. Before joining SaM, what was a fandom you were part of and are there any fandoms you’re into outside of SaM? Honestly, I’m the kind of person who sits on the sidelines in fandoms. I draw some art of my faves, follow some cool artists from the fandom, but otherwise I stay mostly out of it. However, for things that I’m into outside of SaM, I will always love Les Miserables, Dishonored, Star Wars and a whole range of other things. Really anything I’ve drawn art for I love to some extent. I always enjoy finding new fandoms and things to love, especially since I always find some amazing new artists to follow.

11. Is there anything else you’d like the fandom to know about you or anything you’d like to say to the fandom as a whole? This fandom is amazing. The amount of love everyone gives each other is something I really admire and it is something that most other fandoms lack. Although I often don’t participate in Samily stuff, I do always smile whenever I see posts for it (whether it’s art, fic or just general posts). Keep up the awesome work Samily and don’t be afraid to come into my messages and chat~ I’d love to get to know you guys more!
