“Fuck, Osc, we’re in the wrong place.”

You’re looking intently at your Google Maps, trying to puzzle through Italian street names as the taxi speeds off. It’s raining, pouring even. You’re wedged under a shop awning in your fancy dress, and you’re wondering why there’s no one there with an umbrella to usher you into a restaurant that you’re clearly not standing in front of right now.

“What?” Oscar replies, something like panic lacing his voice, “Shit.”

He looks around for the taxi, attempts to flag it down as it turns the corner away from you. Is, obviously, unsuccessful.

“It’s up there,” you say, pointing up the street where you can just make out a maître d’ with a truly massive umbrella, “We’re not far.”

Oscar groans, looking at the stretch of sidewalk. It’s half-shielded by awnings, but there are open sections where rain buckets down. You know he’s regretting forgetting the free umbrella the hotel gave you guys the other day. You’re regretting forgetting that umbrella.

He sighs, “We gotta leg it.”

“Yeah,” you agree forlornly, already mourning the loss of the hairdo that you spent so long on, and your perfect makeup, “We do.”

You and Oscar reach for each other at the same time— he grips your hand tightly and you run out into the rain together. Honestly, it’s not as bad as it had looked. Your hair is holding up under the hand you’ve got hovering above it. Your dress is getting wet, but it’ll dry in the warmth of the restaurant. It’s fine.

You’re about to breathe a sigh of relief as the two of you come up on the restaurant. The maître d’ holding the umbrella and beckoning you forward.

Then Oscar is biting out a curse, and even though you’re safely under cover right now he’s grabbing you and tucking you behind his lanky body. You’re confused, you grab his shoulder and turn him around to ask him what’s going on. You frown, he’s facing you and then suddenly a car is whizzing down the cobblestone road and it’s kicking up a spray of water that goes splat right onto Oscar’s back. You catch some of it, but not nearly as much as you would if Oscar hadn’t shielded you.

He cringes, cheeks screwing up in embarrassment or disgust. You’re looking at him with wide eyes. He’s wet, utterly soaked through. Or at least his back half is. You can see his nice button up shirt sticking to his shoulders even from here.

“Um,” you say for lack of anything else.

“You look too pretty,” he says by way of explanation, shrugging like it’s nothing, “Had to sacrifice myself.”

You snort, then laugh. He laughs too, and the you’re just standing there a few metres from the restaurant giggling like school children.

When the laughter subsides you hum, leaning forward to kiss him on the corner of his mouth, “My hero.”

What's something you'd like to share about Theseus?

i'll use this as an opportunity to talk a bit about theseus's name! (for clarity, i will be using they/it interchangeably to refer to theseus.)

i imagined that aside of choosing a physical appearance of their own, another aspect of identity that would be an important choice to shifty would be a name.

they never really had their own identity, their name just being a shortened nickname of what ford classified their species as (and with an unintended negative connotation, as someone who is "shifty" is seen as sneaky and untrustworthy.)

within a canon sense, i imagined shifty would have first heard the name "theseus" from having ford read various stories to it when it was still quite young, the name having mulled in its mind during the years trapped in the bunker. (idea inspired by @weirdalfemme!)

in a meta sense, the name theseus was chosen for two main reasons. the first reason is a reference to the ship of theseus paradox, which is as follows to those unfamiliar:

The ship of Theseus, also known as Theseus' paradox, is a thought experiment that raises the question of whether an object that has had all of its components replaced remains fundamentally the same object.

as shifty is a creature with constantly changing dna, it poses a paradox within itself over how much of it is the same creature it was years, hours, or minutes ago.

the second aspect of theseus's name regards the actual greek mythos of theseus slaying the minotaur.

within the series, shifty has a very similar role to the minotaur: a beast that is part man, part human, locked away in an underground labyrinthine trap it cannot escape.

as theseus was the slayer of the minotaur within the greeek mythos, shifty taking the name would psychologically symbolize them "killing" their past identity. when it was younger, shifty had been treated more like a caged animal than a sentient being with human capabilities.

with taking the name "theseus," shifty no longer remains the creature who was trapped and helpless, and thus reclaims their identity as a fully realized, fully sentient being: having both the body of a monster and the mind of a man.

idk i don't think i can choose just one technically but the one that makes me feel the most unhinged/insane has to be bercy 1993 so i'll go with that one 😊

Maul had destroyed everything the Empire hadn't already taken from Ezra, and he would have destroyed Ezra himself eventually—but when he dragged the boy with him to Dathomir, She had been there, a black blade in her hand, a dozen warriors at her side.

Sun and moon would have crash landed together, and being that moon is more mechanically inclined he’d probably get everything built, while sun does the majority of exploring. Eventually sun would drag moon out and of course the one time they go out.

BIEG FISH. Sun would be all over that, new friend, bestie really. And reader would probably eventually come poke their head into sun and moons base, watch moon work and talk. They’d come around to each other eventually.

As for eclipse, I figure they would meet later.

Zhongli for the Genshin ask game please!

There are entire several page long essays about the cultural inspirations of his character, stories, design, everything. Imo, he is Genshin's favorite in terms of level of cultural inspiration and pride to this day. You can read about a lot of them here!

One of these is his left thumb ring, which is called a 韘 / Shè in ancient China, and 扳指 / Bān Zhǐ now, implying he can shoot arrows with his left hand!

The English translation did not do justice for a number of translations in his 2nd Story Quest, which you can read about here!

Most notably, Azdaha (aka Re Tuo in Chinese), wrote a whole poem about just how amazing Morax is, and that the title of the question "No Mere Stone" is also inspired by a Chinese poem: "我心匪石 不可转也, 我心匪席 不可卷也"

i hope this is okay heheh.. i made the reader more outgoing and straightforward to contrast him. i hope that's alright! 🫶

you've always gotten along with sinclair. he finds you more approachable than most of the other sinners, and you engage in pleasant between missions. you finish his sentences when his speech dissolves into stammers, and you stick up for him when he is teased for his reluctance to slaughter.

when he speaks with you on the bus, it feels as though nobody else is there. he does not hear ryōshu's acronyms, nor does he hear don quixote's cries for justice.

his favorite moments, however, are when you join him on watching the bus at night. when moonlight streams through the windows, illuminating your face.. he subconsciously inches just a little closer, your knees brushing together.

"..sinclair?"

underneath your sudden utterance, the poor blond scrambles back with a burst of sputtering apologies. if he were any louder in his flustered panic, you're sure the light sleeper rodya would have awoken from her slumber.

"hey..! hey. it's okay." you assure, waving your hands as if to dismiss his anxieties. "i didn't mind you being close."

"y— you.. didn't?" he timidly asks, still unsure if he should return to his prior position sat beside you.

"no, i didn't," you assure, taking the initiative to move closer to him. "i like being close to you, you know."

sinclair feels his shoulders tense as your frame leans into his side. he swallows thickly, desperately wishing that he does not mistake the look in your eyes for anything other than fondness.

"i— i.." shit, he doesn't know what else to say. his heartbeat drums in his chest at such an intensity that he swears his sternum will begin to crackle and break apart.

"—like me?" you finish for him, lips curling into a cheeky smile.

oh, there you go finishing his sentences again. sinclair finds himself turning red in the face, eyes widening. how long have you known of his love for you? have you just been keeping quiet about it like him, and just waiting for your late—night conversations?

"don't worry, sinclair. i like you, too."

if you have some rotating around in your head, perhaps spare us crumbs of Law and Cora's dynamics with the Heart crew? 🥺

I see most of the crew as being relatively close in age range (maybe a 5-6 year range, not including outliers), but somehow Law continues to be one of the youngest crew members. He has no idea how this keeps happening. Thank god Bepo is still the baby of the group.

Cora, on the other hand, remains the oldest by far until they pick up Jean Bart. Some of the crew will jokingly say he's the crew dad.

Because Cora is there, Law isn't as tense as in canon. Although Law is definitely the captain, having an older, more experienced first mate (and, crucially, so much less guilt) means that he's more comfortable accepting help and delegating.

Related: Cora puts a lot of work into supporting Law's position as captain. It's a reversal of authority for them, but Cora, coming from a Marine background, is very aware of how a chain of command works (and how it doesn't). Especially early on, he was careful to defer to Law on major decisions and not undermine him. It's an added complexity in their relationship, but it worked out pretty well.

The first crew member to join was Ikkaku, who was trying to get out of a rocky situation. Her early days were a little rocky, as she was suspicious of them and they weren't quite sure how to fold a new member into the pre-existing dynamic. In the end, it was actually Doflamingo's takeover of Dressrosa that broke the ice. Seeing their reactions to the news humanized them to Ikkaku, and her help keeping things going while Law and Cora were trying to emotionally recover solidified her place in the crew. Since she was the only non-Swallow member on the crew at the time, she has the best sense of how much taking down Doflamingo means to Law. She understands, more than the rest, that Law hates him.

All the non-Swallow crew members joined after Cora and Law got their bounties, so those who kept track of wanted pirates knew of them by reputation. Reality didn't quite live up to intimidating expectations, however. Rather than terrifying, super powerful pirates, the Hearts are a cheerful, extroverted bunch, with a grumpy but kind captain and a goofy, charming first mate.

Related: it's something of a rite of passage among the Hearts to see Cora take the brakes off. When a fight goes sour, or someone threatens the crew, or they just need to make a show, Cora can go from 0 to 100 in a snap. Law might be the real powerhouse, but he's always vaguely threatening (comes from hanging around Doflamingo as a kid). Cora's anger always comes as a shock to new members.

Cora and Law are still the only members of the Heart Pirates with bounties. This is partly because they're the only members with Devil Fruits; partly because with their uniforms, most of the Marines they fight don't bother to try to tell them apart; and partly because Sengoku keeps "losing" any paperwork proposing bounties for the rest of the crew (read: feeding it to Holden the goat).

Every few months, the crew tries to get Law to participate in music night. They've never succeeded, but they're convinced that they'll wear him down one of these days.

The main inspiration for Reprogrammed was actually an episode of Wild Kratts! Specifically S2 E3: Creature Power Challenge.

It's the episode where Zach hacks into the creature power suits in order to force them to change into whatever animal he wants.

The episode is still silly goofy as always, but it really stood out to me in terms of plot potential! They resolve the issue pretty quickly and without consequences, but it just seemed like one of those situations that could have quickly spiraled into something deeper.

Obviously it's a kids show and they cant really explore those scenarios, but that's why fanfiction exists.

It was just interesting to see hints of angst and drama you would find within a more mature series
