Why Allura's Death Was Unsatisfying
You know, I think the reason Allura's death was so unsatisfying was that there was no buildup or closure to it.
I've been thinking about. Major character death isn't new to audiences, and it can be done well. It's sad, yes, and not wanted by most means, but it's possible to have it written in a way where it not only
makes sense, but
delivers closure to both the character and the story
So how do stories do this? I've found the biggest way is through buildup.
We as the audience already know, or at the very least have a feeling, that this character is going to die. Maybe they are destined to die by prophecy, or have some sort of illness that has no cure. Whatever it is, we have the suspicion that this character might not make it to the end.
Another thing is that when a character dies, it serves to wrap their character development and personal arcs. They have grown to be the most ideal version of themselves within the confines of the show, and now they're moving on.
This is satisfying to the audience. It makes sense.
Allura's death has neither of these things.
There was no buildup to her death. For a majority of the show, fans expected Voltron to end with all of the seven main characters alive, because there was no need to expect otherwise. The writers did not give us a sign that someone might possibly sure. So when Allura dies at the end of the show, it's sudden, and it feels almost abrupt in a way.
It didn't wrap up her character arc. Now there's a lot of controversy on whether or not characters even acted remotely like themselves in Season 8, and I'm not going to get into that. It was clear though, that Allura still had a lot growing and learning to do, what we were meant to interpret after the show's ending. She also never really got the chance to be a leader or avenge her nation the way she wanted to. Sure, she defeated the Galra Empire, but she still needed to rebuild Altean civilization and fix what the Galra had destroyed for the entire universe. She doesn't get to do any of that.
In conclusion, Allura would have been better off as a character had she not died, OR, they should have written Allura's arc differently in a way that it would make sense for her to die. She simply had too much to look forward to after the events of the show that nothing of her personal arc got tied up with her death.
Free my poor girl she did nothing wrong.

In rewatching s8 i have some thoughts. Why it didn’t work as an ending, and what i think could have been changed.
WARNING THIS POST IS LONG AS FUCK, so strap in if you’re interested.
- The feel of the writing is distinctly off. Not bad, but it doesn’t feel like you’re watching Voltron anymore. It feels grittier and more like a high stakes adult animation than the other seasons. Which, again, isn’t necessarily bad, but the shift is too quick and it could have been executed better if they spent more time digging into the individual characters and their growth during s6/7.
- The issue of ‘there’s always a bigger enemy’ starts to make the plot feel stale. You get bored of a bigger robot, higher stakes, more to lose. They start killing people and planets for a cheap audience reaction when we weren’t all that invested in the first place. It felt like a split second decision by the writers to destroy Olkarion. Something like that needs to be pencilled in from the beginning. There were too many attacks on Olkarion, and as a consequence we got too used to seeing it’s people in peril. There should’ve been a distinct shift where we, as the audience, realised Voltron wasn’t going to be there to save them this time. Whether that’s a writing, animation or atmospheric issue i’m unsure. Maybe it’s just a me thing.
- The Atlas should never have been able to transform. That for me was the biggest investment turn off. Why do we need Voltron anymore if there’s a bigger, stronger robot on their side? If they were going to replace the castle, they should have made it clear and stuck with the intention. That’s not a support ship anymore, that’s something else entirely. I’d gladly watch a show JUST about the Atlas, with Shiro at the helm, but it’s not Voltron.
- Too many things happen at once, and it’s massively convoluted. 13 episodes is not enough time to: introduce a romance, have me actually care about that romance, kill off a main character, form a new version of voltron, redeem three main antagonists, AND cutely tie up all the glaring plot holes of the show. S8 needed to be two seasons at least. If things were spread out and more passion was pumped into the writing, it could’ve worked.
- Allura’s character was ruined. She became a nagging, reckless, martyred love interest. I love her dearly, i have from S1, but they did her SO dirty. Lance, too. They both deserved better.
- I think, personally, that Sendak should’ve been the final villain. Not Honerva. Her arc was rushed and her CORE motivation made little sense. They used the flimsy excuse of her corruption to redeem her love for Lotor, and his name was literally raked through hell and back for a very mediocre payoff. If that was the plan from the start, it needed to be hinted at more.
- There was too much, as i call it, flip-flopping. The alteans are alive, now they’re evil, now they’re not. We can’t get into Oriande, but now we can! Personally, i need explanations, and strict universal rules. If those rules are to be broken for whatever reason - it has to be a show stopping exception and a main event. Everything is excused and explained away when it doesn’t make any sense.
- Now, i actually really likes the subtle art style and animation adjustments in the season, visually it was spectacular so i have no critiques there. If only the plot could have done its outer shell some justice.
AND GET LANCE OFF THAT DAMN FARM.

It’s about that time in my life where I remind everyone AGAIN of the period where everyone made Lances last name Sanchez.
I want to let that mellow for awhile, let those responsible sit there. Soak it in.

Fans and Creators of VLD and MLB, We Need To Talk :(
Tumblr media
It's been a while guys :( Sorry I've been gone for so long (IT'S BEEN 5 YEARS WTH????)
Recently, I have been looking back on a lot of the shows that I have enjoyed while I have been gone, VLD and MLB being my two mains. I love these shows to the moon and back, they have always been there for me when I needed some good content to cheer me up and keep me always thinking.
BUT... I started to realize something about the fanbases that slightly irked me. It's the fact that whenever something happened that completely threw off one set of fans (the stans :( ), things immediately start going wrong. For example, let's take the (ALLEGED) glass cupcake incident and the MLB bible leaks. Straight up uncalled for. What does one gain from doing this??? Things like this do not make us look good, they only make us look worse and worse. As fans, we are supposed to bring people to enjoy the same content we enjoy, not push them away from it!!!
As for the series creators, I have a bone to pick with the lot of you😒. I'm being so serious, the lack of professionalism is KILLING me. What's up with killing all good characters and giving fans only basic borderline ships... absolutely sick. This pertains to VLD especially... if I could give you all ratings, it would be a 5/10. That number includes how much I enjoy the shows and how much I hate them at the same time.
Being a fan has given me many highs and many lows. But at the same time, I love it. I love the thrill of not knowing what to expect from showrunners and the fan base. That's what makes it fun.
A word of advice to all: Take some time away from your screens🫶🏽Spend some time becoming one with nature. That's the only way we can stop this from becoming a bigger problem.

It's about that time again.
The time where I have to subject myself to Voltron Season 8 for the next chapter.

Just a subtle reminder that the last episode of "Voltron Legendary Defender" was released four years ago.
Happy anniversary to this great series!

one scene you wanted to see in season 8
Okay I'm going to admit something. I have never seen season 8 :"(
BUT, from what I do know about season 8...
Or really just the whole show overall, I really wish we got more episodes focusing specifically on the main characters rather than the war. It feels like as the show went on, we didn't really get to see those relationships develop, so the whole found family trope kinda fell flat on its own face.
Like we're suppose to believe they're super close and like family, and they just...don't spend time together. Especially since certain characters lack any interaction together (a big example of this is Allura and Hunk. They practically have no moments together).
This ties in with my love for episodes like Space Mall. The characters actually spent time with each other and their arcs overlapped. They showed their friendship with each other.
I also wish there were more episodes that directly addressed characters' insecurities. They were mention a lot but never acknowledged or directly resolved (Lance's inferiority issues, Keith's abandonment issues, Pidge's fears of losing family, Allura's loss of family).
I can't think of a specific scene I wanted but I hope this answers ur questions!
