Hair Headcanons for the Arafinweans:
Finrod: Very shiny and reminiscent of treelight, just like his father's. Teleri often comment approvingly on now much like ocean waves it looks. They comment somewhat less approvingly on the absolutely ungodly amount of gems Finrod braids into it. No one knows how he casually walks around with 20+ pounds of jewels in his hair.
Angrod: Has very nice golden-blonde hair– people often speculate that he was blessed by Yvanna, because it's the shade of the wheat that grows in her gardens. He wear it loose in Telerin style, even in the Noldor court, which stirs up no small amount of gossip.
Aegnor: Canonically has spiky hair. Instead of the Finwean Hair Magic™️ manifesting as an unusual color or shine, his hair just casually defies gravity. People often joke about it looking like fire because of the way it sticks up. Aegnor wishes they would stop, and often wears his hair tied back because that's the easiest way to keep in under control.
Orodreth: White-blonde hair like Earwen's. Similarly to Celegorm, his hair is a bit iridescent, shimmering many colors in the sun. His hair is often compared to pearls, which he loves wearing. Sometimes, he hides his hair under a veil– it's his most noticeable feature and he doesn't always like being noticed wherever he goes.
Galadriel: Canonically has treelight hair, which shimmers more silver under the sun and more golden under the moon. Spends her childhood styling it in Noldor braids before getting to Middle-Earth and realizing that she turns far more heads when she wears it loose. Her hair Does Not get dirty. She's also used her magic to make it completely fireproof, mostly out of Feanor-related spite.

Headcanon: Curufin, Amras, Turgon, Finafin, Aegnor, Galdor, Rog, Beleg
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A/N: I know I had another set of headcanons to post, but those weren’t working out, so I decided to give a second part to the Princess Treatment headcanons I did last year for the same event with other characters.
Tumblr media

If you show the slightest interest in something, whether it be a new skill or hobby, Curufin will subtly arrange for the best teachers or resources to be at your disposal. He takes immense pride in seeing you excel, your happiness fueling his own.
Curufin’s affection is shown through action rather than words, but in private moments, he’ll take your hand and press a kiss to each fingertip, murmuring how much he cherishes you.
Tumblr media
.𑁍༊˚ Amras

During your outdoor adventures, Amras takes it upon himself to carry anything you might need, from your extra cloak to your favourite book. He insists that you just enjoy the journey while he handles the rest, finding joy in making sure you’re carefree.
Amras is also fond of crafting little trinkets for you, often made from materials he’s found during your travels together. You’ll receive necklaces of woven grass, rings made of polished stone, and other small tokens that remind you of your shared adventures.
He has a playful side and loves to whisk you away for secret rendezvous under the stars, where he’ll dance with you to the music of the night, his laughter and joy infectious as he spins you around.
Tumblr media
.𑁍༊˚ Turgon
Turgon is the epitome of a chivalrous King when it comes to giving you the princess treatment. From the moment you enter a room, his attention is solely on you, making sure every detail of your surroundings is perfect for your comfort and pleasure.
He loves to plan elaborate dates, whether it’s a moonlit stroll through the gardens of Gondolin or a private concert by the city’s finest musicians. Turgon spares no expense in making you feel like royalty, both in private and in public.
You’ll never need to lift a finger in his presence. Turgon insists on serving you himself, whether it’s pouring your wine or cutting your food, all done with a gentle smile and a look that says you’re the most important person in his world.
When you’re feeling down, Turgon will wrap you in the softest blankets and read your favorite books aloud, his deep voice soothing and comforting. He has a talent for making even the most mundane moments feel special and intimate.
His favorite way to express his love is through grand gestures—like commissioning a beautiful mural in the city, depicting a scene of the two of you. He loves to show the world how much you mean to him, and nothing is too extravagant.
Tumblr media
.𑁍༊˚ Finarfin
Finarfin treats you with a blend of elegance and heartfelt gestures. He delights in hosting intimate dinners for you, where he meticulously plans every detail—from the finest dishes to the perfect candlelight. He ensures each meal is a celebration of your time together.
He’s deeply attuned to your preferences and often surprises you with carefully chosen gifts, such as a rare book, a delicate piece of jewelry, or a beautiful fabric that you’ve admired. Each gift is accompanied by a personal note expressing his affection.
Finarfin enjoys creating serene moments for you both. Whether it’s arranging a private viewing of a stunning sunset or organizing a quiet afternoon in a secluded garden, he always finds ways to make these experiences feel special and memorable.
When you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed, Finarfin will create a relaxing atmosphere, complete with soft music and aromatic oils. He’ll gently rub your shoulders or brush your hair, his touch soothing and attentive, ensuring you feel cherished and at ease.
He’s also fond of planning surprise getaways to picturesque locations. Whether it’s a cosy cabin by a lake or a charming village, he’ll organise everything with precision, ensuring you both enjoy a refreshing and delightful escape from everyday life.
Tumblr media
.𑁍༊˚ Aegnor
He’s fiercely protective and will often accompany you on walks or errands, his presence a silent but powerful reassurance. If anyone dares to speak ill of you, they’ll quickly find themselves on the receiving end of his cold wrath.
One thing Aegnor never misses is an opportunity to reenact all the romantic scenes from plays with you. Whether it’s dancing under the stars or in the ballroom, whispering your name sweetly while holding eye contact, or even chasing you through a field of flowers.
Aegnor enjoys sharing you with the world and letting everyone know that you’re his and he’s yours, so expect commissions of pieces of jewellery that showcase his love for you. A promise ring, a locket with his favourite words engraved, a bracelet with the two as the pendant, and dozens of love letters.
He’s a lover for public displays of affection. He’ll hold you close, pressing gentle kisses to your forehead and cheeks, lips, hands, every oart of your body he could kiss and whisper cheesy words. His touch reverent and tender as if you were the most precious thing in the world.
Flowers upon every meeting and an arm out for you to cross puddles. Holding doors open, pulling out your chair, fixing your hair and clothes, wiping your lips after you’ve eaten and so many more. You can bet the romantic puppy would be down for doing all that and more.
Tumblr media
.𑁍༊˚ Rog
Rog’s princess treatment is all about making sure you feel secure and adored. As a formidable warrior, he’s always looking out for your safety, and you can count on him to be at your side, whether you’re walking through the bustling streets of Gondolin or relaxing at home.
He loves to carry you, especially when you least expect it. Whether it’s sweeping you off your feet to avoid a puddle or lifting you onto his shoulders for a better view, if it makes you happy, it makes him happy. Not to forget, he makes time to also be your teddy bear.
Rog is also a craftsman, and he often creates beautiful, practical items for you. Whether it’s a sturdy pair of boots tailored to your feet or a custom weapon if you’re inclined towards combat, everything he makes is infused with his care and attention to detail.
Despite his warrior’s exterior, Rog has a gentle heart. He’ll often gather flowers for you during his travels and present them with a shy smile, brushing a tender kiss against your knuckles as he does so.
Rog is very tactile in his affection, always finding reasons to touch you—whether it’s holding your hand, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear, or wrapping an arm around your waist. He thrives on these small connections, each one a silent declaration of his love.
Tumblr media
.𑁍༊˚ Galdor
Galdor’s treatment revolves around pampering you in the most thoughtful ways. He’ll often draw you luxurious baths filled with fragrant herbs and flower petals, making sure everything is perfect before leaving you to relax in solitude.
He has a knack for finding the perfect gifts—whether it’s a book you’ve been wanting, a rare plant, or a piece of art that reminds him of you. Each gift is accompanied by a sweet note, handwritten and filled with his deepest affections.
Galdor enjoys taking you on serene walks through beautiful gardens, where he’ll pick the most exquisite flowers to weave into your hair. He takes great care in making sure you feel adored and beautiful, often complimenting you in the softest of tones.
He’s very attentive to your comfort, often adjusting pillows or bringing you extra blankets without you even needing to ask. If you’re working or reading, Galdor will quietly bring you snacks or a cup of tea, ensuring you have everything you need to stay relaxed and content.
In quieter moments, Galdor loves to play music for you, whether on a harp or flute. He’ll serenade you with soft melodies that soothe your soul, his music a tender expression of his love and devotion.
Tumblr media
.𑁍༊˚ Beleg
Being rooted in nature and simplicity, he loves to take you on long walks through the woods, where he’ll point out different plants and animals, making sure you feel connected to the world around you while also feeling special in his presence.
He’s always crafting small gifts for you out of natural materials, like a crown of leaves or a bracelet made from braided vines. Each item is created with care and presented to you with a warm smile, his way of showing how much he cherishes your bond.
Beleg is a skilled archer, and he’ll often set up friendly competitions where the prize is always a sweet kiss or a ton of sweet kisses. He loves seeing your eyes light up with excitement, and his laughter is the most rewarding sound when you best him in a challenge.
He enjoys setting up intimate campfires where you can both sit close, sharing stories and toasting beer or wine under the stars. Beleg will wrap you in his cloak, not because you need protection, but because he wants you to feel his warmth and presence.
When it’s just the two of you, Beleg will take the time to braid your hair, his fingers working with gentle precision. He finds peace in these quiet moments, and it’s his way of showing you how much he treasures every second spent together.

House of Finwe ranked by how much they look like Finwe
Uncanny resemblance tier:
Lalwen - Literally just her dad but genderbent. Same facial structure and blue-grey eyes and gorgeous raven black hair. Only difference is that her hair is wavy rather than pin straight like Finwe’s.
Fingolfin & Argon - Exact same facial structure and eye color, Fingolfin is almost as tall as Finwe but not quite, Argon is taller than Finwe (& the same exact height as Maedhros). They have a very dark brown shade of hair instead of black however.
Aredhel - 60:40 blend of Fingolfin & Anaire but looks more like Fingolfin and therefore looks a good deal like Finwe. She gets her black hair from Anaire rather than Fingolfin but it still adds to her resemblance with Finwe.
Gil-Galad - Finwe’s genes may have almost skipped Angrod & Orodreth entirely but somehow he ended up 57% Finwe.
Maeglin - Looks mostly like his gorgeous mother except he has Eol’s eyes and somewhat of a sharper bone structure than Aredhel though.
Very similar but still notably different tier:
Aegnor - Looks the most like Finwe out of all the Arafinweans. He has the same smile, a very similar face shape, & the same nose. He’s around 55% Finwe, 40% Earwen, & 5% Indis.
Maglor - 53% Finwe, 40% Nerdanel, 7% Miriel. His body type, his eye color, & his freckles are from Nerdanel. A lot of his facial features are Finwe’s but he has a heart shaped face like Miriel and a similar eye shape.
Finarfin - Exactly 50% Finwe & 50% Indis. Some of his facial features are a lot like Finwe’s except people (including both Finwe & Indis) focus way more on his Vanyarin coloring to realize it. His hair is also loosely curled along with being gold like Indis’s rather than straight.
Finrod - Looks just like Finarfin with Earwen’s eyes.
Curufin - Read Feanor’s and then come back. Unlike Feanor he does get his eyes from Finwe but his are more silvery & sparkly.
Feanor - Barely behind Finarfin in terms of resemblance to Finwe but several people would dispute this and say he looks more like Finwe between the two. He’s 50% Miriel, 47% Finwe, & 3% something original entirely. Neither Finwe nor Miriel have his radiant shining eyes that look like they have shards of pale jewels within them but some argue his eyes are a variation of Finwe’s grey ones. His silky raven hair is undeniably Finwe’s but his is wavy. His stature & body shape are similar to Finwe’s but like Fingolfin he’s still a little shorter. His face is a mixture of Finwe & Miriel’s most beautiful features, but he has a little more of Miriel’s.
Celebrimbor - Almost looks exactly like Feanor except his eyes don’t burn with quite the same intensity. There’s also a little something of his mother in his smile.
Caranthir - Canonically got his hair from Finwe, but also got his complexion from Nerdanel. I see him as as 45% Finwe, 50% Nerdanel, & 5% Miriel.
Fingon - He looks very similar to Aredhel but he’s 60% Anaire and 40% Fingolfin whereas she’s the opposite. He looks more like Anaire but also eerily resembles Maglor in some angles due to specifically inheriting a very similar set of features from Finwe (not sure if this makes his relationship with Maedhros more or less weird depending on your interpretation).
A fair deal of resemblance but also looks quite different tier:
Turgon - 50% Anaire, 30% Fingolfin, 20% Indis. Looks the most Vanyarin out of his family, no wonder why he’s the closest to them. Still looks very clearly Noldorin at the same time though. His hair is still the lightest brown out of his siblings.
Elrond & Elros - 30% Finwe, 10% Earendil, 60% Luthien. Due to genes skipping generations like with Gil-Galad, they look more like Finwe than Idril & Earendil do. If you look closely they kind of resemble Maglor despite how far apartly they’re related to him. Maedhros sees a lot of Fingon in them though.
They have about 1 notable feature in common with him tier:
Galadriel - Same eyes as Finwe, she gets her smile from him too, which she also shares with Feanor. She’s 55% Earwen & 45% Finarfin, but she got more of her dad’s Indis features than his Finwe features.
Maedhros - His diamond face shape & high bridged nose are Finwe’s.
Amrod & Amras - They have his eyes, both the blue-grey color and the shape. Nothing else though.
Findis - She’s almost entirely Indis but she has grey eyes and caramel hair between brown & gold. Her Noldorin heritage shines through due to those 2 things but she doesn’t look her dad particularly.
They just don’t look like him tier:
Celegorm - 95% Miriel, 5% Nerdanel. Almost the spitting image of his grandmother but he gets his height, eye color, & freckles from Nerdanel. His hair is straight so maybe 0.5% of him is Finwe but does it really count?
Idril - Takes a lot after both Elenwe & Anaire but she didn’t get Finwe or Fingolfin’s features.
Earendil - Around 60% his mom, who doesn’t look like Finwe, & 40% his dad, who isn’t related to Finwe.
Angrod - Olwe with Vanyarin hair.
Orodreth - Has grey eyes, but he probably got them from his mother rather than Finwe.
Finduilas - Looks almost like a female version of her grandfather and a golden haired version of Earwen.

@anghraine so i have read the books multiple times and am an avid fan of the movies. I enjoy both for what they are. I think the main difference is that Peter Jackson was very open about what they chose to cut and why from anything I've ever seen. They even have Sam give a nod to the book readers by saying "by rights we shouldn't even be here". No I'm not happy about what they did with Faramir and Glorfindel got jipped, and I would have lover to have seen Elronds sons but at the end of the day there were acknowledgments of what and why. Rings of Power to me has always come off as hiding from any criticism by using the shield of "well if you don't like it it's because you don't like POCs in it". To which I genuinely could not give a fuck less, like there are so many branches of elves that went different ways so that could make sense within what Tolkein established. But don't hide behind that when your writing is just "Sauron is evil. We know. And we know she knows. But we have to make it seem like she's the only one who Has A Clue so we must all try to shoo her off to make a plotline"
@lesbiansforboromir has already correctly and politely pointed out that you are doing the very thing we were criticizing in that post—intruding on ROP fan discussion to unfavorably contrast the show to the Peter Jackson films, while also applying a degree of scrutiny to ROP that the Jackson films are rarely subject to in a remotely comparable way and could not bear. Frankly, @lesbiansforboromir is nicer and more restrained than I am about this, but you chose to tag me as well, so I'll also respond.
We (lesbiansforboromir and I) were talking about being excited about costuming in S2 of ROP and disliking the fandom meltdowns over ROP's costuming looking (somewhat) different from the films' aesthetic. Since it had already come up in their discussion, I added that I'm not convinced by the anti-ROP contingent framing their seething hatred of the costuming and design as just caring so much about fidelity to Tolkien's vision. I pointed out that Tolkien fandom broadly cares far more about their preferred, film-influenced aesthetics than Tolkien's actual descriptions and gave some specific examples of this.
There's been a lot of talk, for instance, about how the universally long, flowing hair for Elves preferred by the fandom and used in the films is actually totally canon according to Tolkien even if it's rarely mentioned in LOTR proper. This is inaccurate. Galadriel's brother Aegnor is typically depicted in the fandom/film-preferred style rather than per Tolkien's description of his hair as "strong and stiff, rising upon his head like flames" (indeed, in general neither Aegnor nor anyone else is ever depicted this way, and this description rarely shows up in the lists of "no it's about ethics in adaptation" Tolkien hair quotes).
Tolkien repeatedly describes Elvish, peredhel, and Dúnadan women as wearing their hair bound up in braided coiffures with jeweled hair pieces/nets rather than loose and flowing à la the films and the fandom. Nobody cares, any more than they care about Tolkien's description of Arwen's clothing as soft, grey, and noticeably devoid of ornamentation apart from a belt and netted cap (i.e. the opposite of her highly elaborate film costuming and typically loose, unbound, uncovered hair in the films and most illustrations).
Meanwhile, my fave Faramir's hair is nowhere near long enough in the films or most art to mingle with Éowyn's as Tolkien describes. It's usually also depicted as blond, reddish, or brown rather than black as in the book; in Tolkien's LOTR, all described Gondorians have dark or black hair, with the only difference in coloring being that some Gondorians are dark-skinned and some are pale. Again, almost nobody in the fandom cares about this when they're going on about costume design and casting to reflect Tolkien's vision, and male Gondorians are overwhelmingly depicted with short or shoulder-length hair in the films and in Tolkien illustrations.
Popular depictions of Gondor, including the Gondor of the films, very rarely reflect Tolkien's description of Gondor's aesthetic as similar to ancient Egypt, the Byzantine Empire, and the Roman Empire. Film Gondor has, at most, extremely vague allusions to Byzantine architecture amidst the general and deliberate westernization of Gondor's design—as just one example among many, Tolkien's explicitly Egyptian-based design for the royal crown of Gondor is converted to a generically western European-style crown in the films and overwhelmingly in the fandom.
I then pointed out that it's been very noticeable that ROP haters tend to have a powerful double standard wrt fidelity when it comes to the Jackson films. For over 20 years, most film fans have been constitutionally incapable of tolerating even slight criticism of the films without jumping in to defend their greatness and condescendingly explain the most basic elements of adaptation. (Yes, we know film is not the same medium as text, we know changes are part of adaptation to another medium, we all know that, we all know that a word-for-word adaptation would suck and never be made, this is not new information and does not make the PJ films' every choice a good one.) Yet most film LOTR fans who vocally despise ROP display none of the charity towards ROP that they demand for the films (demand even from someone like Christopher Tolkien, a dead man the entire fandom is deeply indebted to, whose dislike of the films still leads to regular attacks on his character from Jackson film stans).
This hypercritical yet hyperdefensive tendency in the fandom is neatly illustrated by the fact that you responded to a conversation about the double standards in evaluations of ROP's costuming vs the films' to go on about how ROP is objectively bad for reasons entirely unrelated to costuming, how you're totally not racist (something nobody was talking about), and to quote you directly, "Like the show was just Bad." Truly, an incisive critique. Meanwhile, your concessions with regard to the Jackson films are mainly about extremely minor and defensible omissions like removing Glorfindel and the sons of Elrond rather than the serious and fundamental problems that lesbiansforboromir and I have with them, or even the ways they do pretty much the exact same things you're lambasting ROP for.
I mean, if we're going to talk about action hero Elves in ROP vs the Jackson films, what about the action hero-ification of Legolas in the films? He was described by Tolkien himself as the Fellowship member who accomplished the least, so super badass battle-skateboarding Legolas hardly represents fidelity to Tolkien's vision. Why should that get a pass while film-stanning ROP haters seethe about ROP!Galadriel being too special, even though Tolkien described her as one of the most special Elves to ever live and specifically as remarkably athletic and insightful?
Meanwhile, film Gimli is reduced to comic relief, the only dwarves taken seriously are conventionally hot ones in The Hobbit films, and Frodo's expressions of strength and fortitude are consistently removed to glorify other characters. Film Gondorians were deliberately designed to seem like useless tin soldiers (which they are in the films, as well as whiter and blonder than Tolkien wrote them) rather than the physically imposing and highly effective fighting force of the book. ROP imagining Elvish rituals upon approaching Valinor that aren't based in Tolkien canon but don't directly conflict with it is absolutely trivial compared to the films' handling of Denethor and Faramir.
The point is not that you, personally, are not allowed to like the films or dislike ROP despite all this. Many people do love the films, including most of my followers. They do have their strengths, though they are extremely racist and few film fans will acknowledge this without soft-pedaling it in some way (esp, since you brought it up, given the context of the truly unhinged degree of racism that has accompanied much of the broader discourse around ROP).
The point is that film fans who hate ROP are constantly showing up in our conversations to be "well actually ROP is just objectively bad, unlike the films, because the show has failings that are also in the films but it's totally different there because of the contents of Peter Jackson's soul" or whatever. The point is the absolutely glaring and obnoxiously hypocritical double standard of defensiveness about the films and obsessive nitpicking of ROP that leads to ROP haters continually going on rants to ROP fans that are unwelcome, uninvited, and usually (as in this case) irrelevant to what was even being discussed.

Fingon can feel the edge of a dream as he wakes, but not its substance. Sleep clings to him, thick and dark as molasses, even when the outside world begins to infringe. It smells of hyacinths, so fragrant he can almost taste the flowers. Light warms his cheek. A nightingale sings. Some bit of grass tickles his neck. Some little sharpness pokes his hand; he opens his eyes and sees that a junebug, iridescent green-pink, drags its round body over his finger, jointed legs pinching slightly at his skin. And just behind that—
An elven face, half-turned from him, eyes shut in sleep. Hair loose, straight and yellow as straw, scattering of freckles over the cheeks, long and very slightly upturned nose. Aegnor.
Something in Fingon’s neck clicks as he turns to look at his other side, some slight shifting of his body back into place. He yawns, and hears his jaw click, too.
But there is Angrod, just where he ought to be. Elbow thrown over his face, hands unadorned, golden mane catching the light. He is dressed oddly, all in white.
Some distant, childish thought strikes Fingon: We must have fallen asleep playing in Father’s gardens. But no, no—no, that is wrong, long gone. Then—we must have been drinking. The midsummer festival of the trees. The hunt.
Angrod shifts slightly in sleep, lets his arm fall. The ruddy scar that ought to curl over his upper lip is gone. But why should he have scars?
A glancing blow from an orc blade, Fingon remembers, if it had gone lower it would have struck his throat. His dream dances again in front of his eyes, a mud stained silver banner buffeted by the wind. Behind Aegnor’s features there is suddenly a blackened land, a scattering of ash. Fingon's eyes flick away, into the garden.
The bowing, weeping willows. The bright red hyacinths, scattered as rubies on the shore. The shadowed, tucked away places, covered with sunset-orange nemesia and crimson bleeding-heart.  That is where the dead queen had lain, Fingon thinks, and knows what has come of them.

it's so important to me that aegnor is the most beautiful ethereal elf you've ever seen and andreth is like. ok. no facial features that really grab anyone's attention
what draws aegnor to her is all the things about her that seem to contradict each other. the way she looks so at home in middle earth, so at one with the heather as her bed and the stars as jewels in her hair, when aegnor knows her fëa is not of middle earth. the way she is so young compared to him, yet the way she talks with such knowledge and heaviness, and the way her eyes hint at memory long before her years, but memory that weighs on her and lends wisdom and passion to her words all the same.
he cannot help but be bewitched by her, to try to make sense of her, while knowing every glance he steals of her in the still water of the lake brings him closer to his doom. he looks anyway

❝ He remembers that day all too well, of course. He remembers visiting the bustling port of Alqualondë together with his brothers, excusing himself when they started arguing in the evening and sitting down at the dock to cool his feet in the water and read. He remembers being caught off-guard by the swift and surprisingly silent arrival of the Alquilda, the ship he now knows to be one of the most famous and infamous, feared and revered ships that sail the oceans of Arda. He remembers Eärwen calling out to him, mistaking him for a sailor or dockworker, and telling him to catch the mooring line, which he caught with his face instead of his hands because he kept staring at her. ❞
𓊝 Characters/pairing: Finarfin x Eärwen, Finrod, Angrod, Aegnor, Galadriel 𓊝 Synopsis: Finarfin tells his children how he fell in love with their mother, the (in)famous pirate captain Eärwen 𓊝 Warnings: / 𓊝 Oneshot (~1.8k words)
AN: I have @camille-lachenille to thank for inspiring this one. Also fair warning, there isn't any on-screen pirate stuff happening, I just had this cute little scenario of house hubby Finarfin telling his kids about their cool pirate mom in mind and had to write about it ^^

"Atya?"
"Yes, Artanis?"
She looks up at him with wide eyes, alight with the same sort of inquisitive curiosity Arafinwë has come to know so well. Behind her stand her older brothers, quiet but equally eager to witness the conversation unfold.
He can tell that they have been talking among themselves and wonders if his boys put their sister up to whatever she is going to ask next.
Artanis wastes no more time. "Can you tell me about Emya again? Please?"
Arafinwë is careful not to let his smile falter for even a split second, nods and closes the book he has been reading. It's not that he doesn't enjoy talking about his beloved Eärwen — he could do so for days, and his brothers would surely tease him for it if they didn't feel similarly about their wives — but he knows their children miss her as much as he does and at times feels guilty that stories are all he has to offer.
For the moment, at least.
As soon as he places his book on the nearest table, Artanis climbs on his lap as if to take her due place on her personal throne. Findaráto, Angaráto and Aikanáro take it as their cue to follow, making themselves comfortable on the armrests of his armchair and at his feet. Arafinwë takes a moment to look at them, admiring their small, young faces, and strokes Artanis' hair absentmindedly. Time and time again he marvels at how lovely, smart and brave they are, sees their mother's grace and fire within them.
I haven't even begun talking and I'm already getting sentimental, he silently chastises himself.
Four pairs of eyes look up at him expectantly. Arafinwë clears his throat. "Is there any specific story you would like to hear?"
Findaráto shakes his head, then rests his chin on his knee. Angaráto and Aikanáro exchange a glance before they do the same. Artanis, however, nods without hesitation. "Yes, please tell us about the first time you met Emya."
Arafinwë's smile brightens. It's one of her favourites, he knows, and something tells him that she's already looking forward to sweeping an unsuspecting nér or nís off their feet as well one day.
He remembers that day all too well, of course.
Eärwen never let him live it down, and neither would Artanis if she knew.
"Years ago, your mother was already known as Lady Eärwen the swashbuckling swan-maiden, while I was but a young prince," Arafinwë begins his tale. "It was on a summer evening that I met her at the docks of Alqualondë. The sea was calm, and the Alquilda bound for the shores of home. Standing atop its bow and underneath swift sails, hair billowing in the wind, was Lady Eärwen and she came upon me as swiftly as upon her enemies."
"It must have been meant to be, that she just happened to toss me a mooring line like a thread of fate, binding us together in spite of whichever tides may come. Your uncles say I was quite literally roped into the tale of a pirate princess and they may well be right — I certainly don't mind."
Findaráto rolls his eyes at the last sentence, but can't suppress a grin. Artanis meanwhile takes no offence to her father's narration, hanging on his every word like a tiny kraken clutching a stray boat.
"I was immediately fascinated by her, bewitched as if I had met a siren," Arafinwë continues, his eyes sparkling with mirth. Truth to be told, he isn't even exaggerating by much — his infatuation was immediate and strong. "Forgetting all about my feuding brothers, I embarked on my most daring adventure as of yet: I asked Lady Eärwen if she would join me for a drink at her favourite local tavern. Though perhaps I should rather say it was I who joined her, given that, in my haste, I had forgotten that I was woefully unfamiliar with our surroundings."
"We talked and laughed and drank until the early morning hours, and it was the loveliest night I had ever had. It pained me to say goodbye to her at sunrise, but Atar was getting worried about my whereabouts and Ammë had begun sending out servants in search of me after Fëanáro and Nolofinwë mentioned they hadn't seen me since the previous day."
"Lady Eärwen and I met again the next day and the day after and the day after that too, every day she stayed in Alqualondë. Yet in time all good things must come to an end, and she had to return to the sea eventually — something she had warned me about in the very beginning, but I didn't mind then and don't mind now. When we parted at the docks, she promised me that we would meet again and that she would send for me when the time came. To show me that she meant it, she gave me this–"
Arafinwë reaches for the necklace he always wears, a fine silver chain with a little swan pendant made of mother-of-pearl. The children have seen it before of course, but at least for little Artanis this moment never gets boring.
"I returned to Tirion, slightly heartbroken but mostly hopeful, and I had faith that my lady would keep her word, especially now that her little swan kept me company. Every day I thought of her, every night I dreamed of her. To prepare for her return, I asked Fëanáro to help me make a gift for Lady Eärwen as well. It too would be a swan pendant, that much was clear, but we spent much time pondering which material would be best. In the end we settled on amber; not only to match the colours I had chosen for my future house, but also because at times small things become encased in amber, fleeting moments captured and preserved forever, like the feelings I had for her."
It is at this point that the boys audibly groan, but Artanis shoots her brothers an angry glare. "Let Atya be in love! It's not like he can help it!"
"Thank you, my little princess," Arafinwë laughs and places a small kiss on her parting.
Artanis appears to appreciate the gesture, but has her mind on other things. "I want to hear how Emya came back to you."
"Of course." He hurries to focus on the story once more. "Well, one day many months later, I found a seagull sitting on my windowsill, carrying a letter in its beak. I was overjoyed to find that it had been written by none other than Lady Eärwen, telling me that the Alquilda was once again heading for Alqualondë and that she would love to see me there. Without hesitation, I packed my things, borrowed the fastest horse I could find from Atar's stable and rode out to meet her, speeding across the plains of Valinor as if the hunters of Oromë were after me. And indeed, she was there when I arrived. She was waiting for me at the docks where we had first met."
Arafinwë smiles wistfully. "Everything was exactly as it had been, we picked up where we had left off. And as for how it went on... well, the rest is history."
He looks at his children, the greatest and proudest achievement of his and Eärwen's union. They sit in contemplative silence, their young minds pondering the story they heard before yet never understood in its entirety and wouldn't for some time, not until they grow up and fall in love themselves.
Artanis' eyes are glowing with joy and excitement, and she claps her little hands. Arafinwë knows she has almost no memory of her mother, so these stories mean a lot to her. He takes her into his arms, also gathering her brothers, and they remain like this for a while.
When he and Eärwen got married and decided to have a family, they knew already that her sea-longing would come back in time and sunder them for a while. Arafinwë was ready for it; before proposing, he asked her father for her hand, and Olwë took him aside to ask if he knew of his daughter's origins. She had told him of course — that her mother was a Maia who took the shape of swans and other sea-birds and couldn't live without the air and sea and that she, Eärwen, had become who she was because she had been beset by the same longing.
Olwë confided in him, telling him how he had raised his children alone when she was absent, then asking again if he still wished to marry Eärwen. Arafinwë said yes. He meant it then just as he means it now, and his only regret is that their younger children barely remember their mother.
Eärwen didn't take her decision to return to the sea lightly, of course. She spent years living with Arafinwë in Valinor while the Alquilda rested in the port of Alqualondë, lovingly maintained by her crew. Yet after their fourth child was born, she slowly felt the sea-longing return, and he was ready to keep his promise to let her go, as he had once said to her as part of his marriage vows. He had known all along what it meant and he would neither see her suffer nor go back on his word, he had sworn to himself.
Every few weeks or months, birds from all over Arda arrive at his house and bring letters from Eärwen, detailing her adventures. Arafinwë reads all of them to their children and tells them everything he knows about the birds and the lands she's visiting. One day, when they're all old enough, they'll sail together, she promised him on the day she left.
At times he wonders if the sea-longing will come for their children too one day. He is a prince, a politician and a diplomat, hardly fit to be a pirate or a sailor, but he will follow his family across the seas of Arda if he has to. At least, as Arafinwë often told Eärwen in jest, he knows how to use a sword and is the youngest of his father's house, unlikely to be crowned king any time soon, if ever.
And until the sea calls for the Elflings he's now lovingly cradling in his arms, they are safe at home with him.
Tumblr media
Etymology: Alquilda - silent/hushed swan - referring to the silent swiftness of the ship, as well as being a pun on mute swan (the species) which are known for being monogamous and using the same nest every year

Blend, Bond, Blaze
A little something I wrote about Fingon, Angrod, and Aegnor's canonical friendship for this month's SWG challenge, using the prompt "three strands of a braid."
It is the great frustration of their childhoods that they do not match: FingonandAngrodandAegnor, close as brothers; three flashing, crackling sparks of the same bright fire. They share eyes that mingle blue and green, nimble fingers, quick and sometimes thoughtless mouths. No one of them is faster or stronger or wilder than the others. What accident of form is it that makes Fingon’s locks so dark, when they should quite obviously be fair? Noldor, all, they experiment with change. Angrod crowns Fingon with a mop; Aegnor braids his curls with hay. Fingon holds his cousins in a fearsome grip and coats their long, bright hair with mud: all three are black of mane, then, until it dries and cracks. For a while, they wear identical scarves to hide their dissimilar hair – if they cannot match in outward seeming, let none look at them and know them somehow strange. But scarves slip. They cannot be worn in water. They catch in tree branches and are torn free in the wind of a gallop. They are impermanent, when FingonandAngrodandAegnor will always, always be the same. Finarfin finds them in the laboratory, deep in argument over the merits of stripping dark from light or weaving shadows into gold. What chemical marvels might they blend, to align their three fine heads and make them all alike? A chemistry lesson bleeds into genetics, and then into metallurgy: if they may not dye (as their fathers categorically forbid), how might they otherwise embellish and adorn? All their energy pours into anodizing, plating, hammering thin and fine. Managing weight and durability to shape jewels that represent the closeness of their ties. Fingon’s dark braids gleam with ribbons of gold; Angrod and Aegnor weave theirs with blackened steel. They are tiger-striped; lightning-struck. Three wild spirits, finely alloyed.
Also on SWG and AO3.

Imagine being in love with Aegnor but him being in love with someone else
Tumblr media
You would do anything to ensure his happiness, including watching him love someone else.
Requested by Anon
Hello. Can you please write something about Aegnor x female Elf Reader with an angsty start and a happy ending? Please 🛐💕💕💕💕
Warnings: pining, social awkwardness, mentions of the kin slaying, crossing of Helcaraxe, death, angst, war, unrequited love, the Sudden Flames, death of characters, wandering alone, eventual return to the undying lands, reunion, and a half-happy ending?
(I'm sorry if this is not the one you had in mind, but this is all my mind would come up with. Also, this might have been done a bit messily. I had more trouble with the inspiration than I thought. )
------------------------------------------------
- You had known Aegnor for most of your life. Part of you almost wished you had never met him that day, as it might have spared you a lot of pain. However, the other part wouldn't have changed it for the world.
- You first met him when you were children.
- You were an awkward quiet kid. You did not know how to make many friends and you kinda hated that about yourself. You were the total opposite of what a proud Noldor should be.
- Then you met Aegnor at a social gathering.
- It was an accidental meeting. Your parents had forced you to accompany them to a social gathering held outdoors in a garden. You brought a book with you, intending to avoid socializing, and found a quiet place to read, away from the others.
- You were engrossed with your book, but then you heard sounds coming from the bush beside you, then another elfling jumped through, dumping into you.
- It was awkward as you both stared at each other in shock. You became more embarrassed when you recognized him as Aegnor, one of Prince Finarfin’s sons.
- He quickly apologized and giggled, asking you to be quiet because he was playing hide and seek with his siblings and cousins.
- You kept quiet, but you two were quickly found by one of his cousins, Fingon.
- They asked you why you were there alone, and you were too embarrassed to tell them. They then asked if you wanted to join them in their game.
- You asked if it would be weird for you to join, but Aegnor did not care and pulled you along.
- Perhaps that was the moment you fell in love with him.
- You had fun with them while you played, even proved yourself good at hiding.
- When it was time for you to leave, you almost didn’t want to go. Your parents looked surprised when you returned to them with Aegnor and bid him farewell. They teased you for it and were delighted that you were actually playing with someone.
- You did not like their teasing and refused to tell them about it.
- You kinda regretted not asking if you could see him again when the years passed, but accepted it was just a one-time thing and tried to forget it.
- Until the day arrived when you would become one of lord Tulkas’s students and start your warrior training. You met Aegnor again with his brother.
- He had grown taller and his hair shone gold like the leaves of Laurelin. When he saw you, he recognized you immediately. He did not hesitate to come and greet you like you two were old friends.
- You became shy around him again but did not try to run away and catch up to him.
- The training day went quickly with him around. And when you had trouble finding a sparring partner, he agreed to be your partner.
- You spent a lot of time together sparring. You eventually confessed to him that you didn’t have a lot of friends because you were shy.
- He then said he was more than willing to become your friend and that's how you then became friends.
- You became eager to see him during training, getting to know each other and even befriending his brother Angrod.
- You even started seeing him outside the training as he brought you along and wanted to help you open up and get friends for yourself. You followed him around like a duck, as it felt easy for him to lead and you to follow.
- You got along with his cousins and even became odd friends with his sister, Galadriel. You were both the quiet type, but you got along well and understood each other without saying much. That baffled her brothers and they thought you two became good friends enough to use Osawne, which was not the case.
- You grew together with them, and perhaps that’s how your crush on him only grew.
- You both became great fighters under lord Tulkas’ teachings. You two were perhaps his best students. However, Aegnor was slightly better than you. He grew taller and physically stronger, beating you in each sparring match.
- You sometimes managed to beat him as you were swifter in feet.
- He grew up to be a passionate elf, even though he sometimes got into trouble with his cousins from Prince Feanor’s house.
- Thanks to him, you managed to become more social and make more friends than try to hide away from everything. You still disliked social gatherings but managed to become more tolerant toward them.
- You and Aegnor were slight opposites as he was passionate and wild, while you were calm and cool.
- When you both grew up, you began to take notice of your crush on him but held them back since he most likely only saw you as a friend.
- It was not hard to hide them from him since he was pretty oblivious, but his sister was the only one you couldn’t hide your feelings from.
- You told her about your feelings for her brother, and she was supportive and even tried to encourage you to go with them. However, you did not want to risk your friendship with Aegnor, so you never did.
- You were also only from a lower noble class while he was a prince, so to you, he was beyond your league.
- You had become close friends with Fingon and Aegnor’s older brother Finrod as you had gotten pulled into their shenanigans. You cared for them and often sought advice from Finrod. He had unintentionally become an older brother figure to you.
- However, after such a long peaceful life in Aman. Things began to go wrong when the Valars released Melkor from his captivity.
- The fallen Vala managed to reap chaos and mistrust as Feanor had become more hostile toward his half-brothers and even pulled a sword on Fingolfin’s neck.
- The Valars punished Prince Feanor and banished him temporarily from Tirion.
- It managed to calm things down for some time, but it did not end the unrest as Melkor was still allowed to walk free.
- Then worst happened when Feanor was summoned back, and Melkor destroyed the two trees, sending Aman into darkness.
- Feanor went mad and attacked the Teleri in Alqualonde to steal their ships. You were there to defend the Teleri with Aegnor and his siblings as they tried to protect the Teleri, but the battle had come to a devastating end and the port was filled with death.
- What was even worse, even you, and those who tried to defend the Teleri were doomed and banished from Aman.
- Feanor had then sailed to Middle Earth with his sons and host and burned the boats, forcing Fingolfin and the rest of you to cross Helcaraxe.
- You and your family were loyal to Fingolfin, and for your friendship with Aegnor, you left with them too.
- The journey was cruel as many lost their lives to the cold and the ice, including some people from your family.
- Aegnor helped you to get through and comfort you through the loss. You were grateful for it and through many grueling days, you all managed to reach Middle Earth.
- Things in Beleriand were no better.
- Feanor had lost his life at the hands of Balrogs, his eldest son was captured by the enemy, and the Noldor were divided by those led by Fingolgin and those who followed the sons of Feanor.
- You stayed by Aegnor’s side and eventually, things calmed down when Fingon went to rescue Maedhros from the enemy, and the latter relinquished the title of high king to Fingolfin. You did not support the sons of Feanor for their actions, but you felt respect for the eldest son for his decision since it allowed the unrest to die down.
- Aegnor grew to despise them for their actions and felt slightly betrayed that Fingon would decide to save one of the kin slayers. Luckily, you managed to talk to him and the two retained their friendship over the years.
- You stayed close to Aegnor so you could offer him your blade when needed, and then you watched how he fell in love with a human woman named Andreth.
- Your heart broke at the sight, but when he looked happy with her, you felt happy for him too. You could not even blame him. You met Andreth, and she was a kind and wise woman from her people. You could even say that you loved her dearly too. You could not be mad at her for having Aegnor’s heart and it made you sad that the two couldn’t be together due to the rule of not marrying during war.
- To avoid putting yourself in their way, you try to focus on other things and distance yourself from the pair’s happiness.
- You were then approached by Finrod, who was against the relationship. He was a fond friend to the race of men, but in his mind, an elf and a human couldn't be together due to the mortality of humans.
- You actually defended Aegnor’s and Andreth’s relationship. He was not wrong that their fates would be different and that war did not allow marriages, but you believed they should be allowed to be happy while they still had time together.
- Finrod was surprised by your reasoning and then asked about your feelings for Aegnor. He had been aware of them the whole time. He also asked what you would do since Aegnor will most likely never know love again after Andreth is gone or leave the halls of Mandos if he dies so he could wait for her return.
- You answered even though you loved him, you cared about his happiness more than your own. If that is what Aegnor wished then you will not oppose it.
- Finrod felt saddened for you but respected your decision.
- Then the horrible tragedy struct when Morgoth released the flames from Thangorodrim and orcs flooded Dorthonion. You fought all you could, but you then had to witness Aegnor’s and his brother’s death. Unable to do anything.
- You were filled with rage and started killing all the orcs you could. Unfortunately, there were too many of them, and you passed out from exhaustion.
- However, instead of dying or finding yourself captured. You woke up beneath some hubris and dug your way out.
- You witnessed the devastation left by the orcs and then you were found by Andreth, who was glad to see you alive.
- You both mourned Aegnor’s death and tried to bury him and his brother as best as you two could since the orcs did not spare mangling their bodies beyond recognition.
- You then stayed with Andreth in her home, mourning and contemplating everything that had happened. Andreth had been aware of your love toward Aegnor, and then you two comforted each other.
- You stayed with her until the end of her days, as Aegnor was not able to do so, and you felt your heart break for her too. You did not know what else to do now that they both were gone, but you then decided to return to those who were still alive.
- You were welcomed by Finrod, who was surprised yet glad to find you alive since the destruction of Dorthonion. He allowed you to stay in Nargothrond until many years later, when it was destroyed by Glaurung, forcing you to go on the run.
- You lost many things over the years. By luck, you managed to reunite with your friend Galadriel and stay with her till the war of wrath.
- Since some of you were granted a pardon to return to Aman, you decided to sail and be reunited with your family.
- Many years later, you were reunited with Finrod, then surprisingly with Aegnor, who you believed would never return after Andreth’s death.
- You both spoke about the things that had happened and your feelings.
- You both together mourned Andreth and perhaps in hopes you both would be waiting for her. You found peace and happiness with each other again despite the odds.

Not to bring Elf Hair Discourse on here, but frankly I think that no Tolkien adaptation can make any real claim to accuracy unless it features at least one Elf with Aegnor's punk rocker/Celtic warrior/stuck a fork in the toaster look.

Elves of Beleriand, ranked by how quickly you’d recognise them if you came across them in the woods:
Maedhros. Tall, remarkably good-looking, unusual red hair, The White Fire In His Eyes, and he’s missing a hand. Pretty sure there is literally nobody else in Beleriand fitting that description.
Thingol. The Tallest Ever. Also the only Sinda with the light of the Trees in his eyes.
Lúthien. The Most Beautiful Ever, but also good at making magic cloaks that hide her from unwelcome eyes, so it depends on whether she wants you to recognise her or not.
Galadriel. Very tall and unusually beautiful, with remarkable golden hair.
Dior. Exceptionally beautiful, and the only Peredhel around for most of his lifetime.
Turgon. Also one of the Tallest Ever. But he should be in Gondolin so you probably wouldn’t expect to come across him in the woods.
Amrod and Amras, together – they have unusual red hair and are almost identical, so you’d definitely recognise them if you saw them together. If they’re apart or Amrod is crispy, potentially less likely.
Gwindor post-escape from Angband. Aged in the manner of mortal men and missing a hand, so you might recognise him if you knew about that. When he shows up at Nargothrond with Túrin, he’s so changed that nobody does recognise him, so doesn’t have any other distinguishing features. Counterpoint: maybe the aging thing happened to a lot of escaped thralls.
Aegnor. One of the few blond Noldor, with unusual spiky hair.
Celegorm. Has a big magic dog. On the other hand, when Lúthien canonically comes across him in the woods, she doesn’t recognise him until he introduces himself.
Fingon. On the one hand, he notably braids his hair with gold. On the other hand, maybe he was such a popular, trendsetting hero that a large proportion of the Noldorin population of Hithlum did the same. Also he can presumably take the gold out of his hair if he doesn’t want you to recognise him.

Andreth Rec List
If you know me, you know how much I love Andreth. I’ve put together a list of some of my favorite Andreth-centric fics, mostly focusing on who she is outside of her relationship with Aegnor and on her relationships with her family and Finrod. (But if you’re in the mood for Aegnor/Andreth, I have a rec list for them here.)
As always, if you enjoy any of these, please leave a kudo and comment for the author!
A flickering flame by @camille-lachenille (G, Andreth & Finrod, 1k):
She looks at the babe in her arms, blissfully asleep and unaware of the world he just entered. This little boy who shouldn’t be, her miracle and her curse.
Blood on Bone for a Lover’s Burial by heget (T, Andreth & Baragund & Belegund, 4.7k):
After the Dagor Bragollach, Wise-woman Andreth demands that their dead be buried. Her great-nephews, Baragund and Belegund, escort her to the ruins of Barathonion, to search for bones.
The Brides of Death by heget (G, Andreth & Finrod, 2.3k):
"Nóm has many questions, but he never asks about the wreath Andreth wears in her hair." A story of the Edain and their first interaction with the elves, of courage and defiance and most of all the Gift of Men.
Chrysalis by @cuarthol (G, Andreth & Bregor, 1.3k):
Andreth grieves.
For We Remember by ncfan (T, Andreth & Morwen, 7k):
Morwen, in childhood.
The Ring by heget (G, Andreth/Aegnor, ~600 words):
Andreth reunites with Aegnor.
Stitch. by Zimraphel (G, Andreth, ~400 words):
The sentence ends in silence halfway through. - the author once again uses poor Finrod and Andreth to vent halfheartedly about her own issues with Meaning, and Life, and Death as defined by elves. As one does! But really; how infuriating to hear someone say your life is part of a greater harmony when none of yours forms much of one, Finrod.
The north-march by losselen (G, Andreth, ~400 words):
A poem of Andreth in Ladros, who lived in the long years of the Siege of Angband.
Watcher Of/In the Woods by ncfan (T, Andreth, 2.4k):
"Outside, the world was changing." Andreth, in the time following the Dagor Bragollach.
Words by @hhimring (G, Andreth & Finrod, ~800 words):
Finrod and Andreth discuss matters of language. A short extra scene in the "Athrabeth Finrod ah Andreth".

House of Finarfin | Getting Into A Fight for Their S/O
Tumblr media
A/N: For my inactivity, have a cookie 🍪 and some headcanons for the golden boys. It was nearly impossible to write for this house when they’re so classy and more tamed than the others. Like imagine Finarfin getting into a fistfight (⊙_⊙)?
Tumblr media
˖ ࣪ . ࿐ ♡ ˚ . Finarfin
This elf does not condone violence and would not even for the slightest allow himself to engage in such unmannered acts…before the public eye or yours. You really believe if push came to shove, Finarfin would be a bit violent, and I don’t mean physical alteration.
Underneath, he’s boiling with rage and desires to jump–kick that idiot (for the first time he felt physical impulses) who decided to spill belittling accusations about you and his family. The glass in his hand has cracks on the side, ready to shatter.
Aware that this matter would become worse as the idiot prattles forever on, he’ll call his men to have them removed and thrown into prison to spend the night or a few days. While that occurs, he drags you off to enjoy the rest of the night doing everything to dissipate his anger.
During the night when you’re fast asleep—which he ensures before departing—he’ll pay his newly recruited prisoner a visit for a nice heart–to–heart conversation. This means he’s rolled up his sleeves to brace the perpetrator against the wall and have them sweating bullets.
No one has ever seen Finarfin like this, nor will anyone ever (and believe it). Finarfin is still elegant as ever as he speaks menacingly and warns the prisoner to never let it happen again or this nice talk would be different.
By sunrise, he’s back in bed and cuddled up at your side. Whispering sweet nothings into your ear and expressing his love and adoration as though he wasn’t threatening someone in the prison cells hours earlier for indecent behaviour.
Tumblr media
˖ ࣪ . ࿐ ♡ ˚ . Finrod
Remember that this is the same Nom Nom who fought with a werewolf naked and killed it with his teeth. So without further ado, how foolish does one need to be to provoke our quiet Finrod? Astronomically.
All Finrod wants to do is enjoy the night with his lover and family and get drunk from the unlimited stock of wine, but someone has to ruin his night by throwing physical insults and jabs at you. As a composed individual, he’ll attempt to dissolve the issue, but nothing ever goes as planned.
The next thing you know, you’re witnessing a fluffy golden–haired male going ‘left right uppercut goodnight’ and a bite in the middle of the celebration and a bunch of guards and his brothers are rushing to prevent the fight from escalating.
Finrod is seething with a calming rage that appears terrifying because all he’s doing is S T A R I N G as they remove him from the beaten–to–pulp perpetrator on the floor. It’s the look in his eyes which no one has ever seen before that’s sending fear down your spine.
His brothers would suggest that you tag along to show Finrod that you were safe and alright. They would make you stay with him the rest of the night to keep him busy instead of doing something impulsive.
Finrod would be embarrassed and ashamed when he snapped out of his state and realised that you just witnessed him in an unhinged manner, fighting someone. So much apologies, Finrod would throw himself on his knees to beg for forgiveness while you’re cleaning his injuries. The sight would make you chuckle and freeze.
“Findo, sweetheart. I know you’re sorry, but you were also defending me, don’t apologise.” Give him some kisses and cuddle him to relieve his stress. His glow would return.
Tumblr media
˖ ࣪ . ࿐ ♡ ˚ . Angrod
He’s hot–headed and could give a few of the Feanorians a run for their money when it comes to flying off the railing and diving headfirst into a fight to defend you. He’s not giving the individual a chance to beg for forgiveness because in his mind, “Why would you talk about my S/O as a joke?”
Seeing Angrod in a fight comes off as…normal due to already seeing his and Aegnor’s temper. You naturally had the inclination that him getting into physical altercations would occur, however, you were expecting it other reasons.
Cue, his older brother and cousins getting involved to struggle drag a madman away as he shouts profanities across the room and attempts to break free of their grasp. He’s seething and fighting to break free to finish what he started.
You would have to be stern in order to gain his attention away from the perpetrator being dragged off. If you thought Finrod did damage, wait till you see what his younger brother managed.
S H A K E him back into reality because his focus is elsewhere, refusing to meet your eyes, mostly because he still isn’t aware of your presence yet. But still, give him a violet shake and scold him for injuring himself because his knuckles were all bruised.
Angrod would remain broody for the rest of the night while you pull his ears and pinch him to drop the altercation because he’s swearing under his breath every chance he gets. Push him in a pool of cold water to wake him up and join him for a swim, he’s finally dropped it.
Tumblr media
˖ ࣪ . ࿐ ♡ ˚ . Aegnor
Angrod 2.0 because he throwing his fists with fervour, left and right the minute words of insult are thrown in your direction. Insult him, but not his family or his beloved. In the beginning, there would be a small attempt at escaping the scene because you’re there and he doesn’t wish for you to overhear.
Yet, the fool who wishes to continue prattling doesn’t get the hint when receiving the look of death. Some extra foul words would be exchanged before Aegnor releases himself from your grasp and lunges at the elf, dragging him across the floor.
Never before had you seen your lovestruck elf so enraged, and it terrified you, even if the matter were to defend your name and honour. The sight of his calmest and most treasured smile vanished into the air when you caught a glimpse of his face stone–set and focused on the actions.
However, it was the guards under the order of his father who tugged him away while he threw daggers at the unconscious elf. The person who could speak sense into him would be you reassuring him that you were fine, and no harm was delivered.
Hold and squeeze him tightly as you pepper his face with butterfly kisses and turn his attention onto you (kisses are the best way to keep him focused on you). Probably take him for a swim for his stress to fade. Let him skip a few stones to release his frustration.
And when he’s done, reassure him that all is well, and you’re not upset by his choice to defend you. Tell him how brave or fearless (or impulsive) he was to dive into the fight and save your pride, it’ll make him turn into a strawberry.

loved your arafinwë and dinrod amd pie hc and wanted to send an ask but can’t decide what numbers. so. what about. *all* the sensory asks for finrod? 👉👈
Ok, anon, it's 4 months late but I promised I would do it and I have done it: the complete list from this sensory headcanons ask game filled out for my favoritest guy of ever.
I think for the sake of the "collection," I'll paste the ones I've already answered into this too so you have the complete set all in one place.
Alright. Here we go. My Finrod sensory asks magnum opus:
Tumblr media
1. Their most visually striking feature
Many people would say it's his hair, but those who are closest to him will tell you it's his eyes. They are grey with just the barest hint of blue, the clouds of a light rainstorm with the sun beginning to break through.
2. The colours they wear / look best in
Dark green or a rich, deep blue are his go-tos. He looks great in dark red also, but only wears that rarely.
3. Their favourite kind of view
Beside a grove of trees, looking out over a body of water. The breeze merging the sound of leaves and the sound of the waves, the sky opening out in a huge expanse over the water and filling his lungs with ease. ("View" for him is all the senses together - his "felt sight" and visual sight are inseparable.) Originally answered here.
4. Do they prefer bright lighting, dim lighting, or darkness?
The hours between one and the other, or lighting that reflects that. The perpetual twilight of Alqualondë is what he remembers from his happiest years as a child. Consequently he feels the most at peace when that sensory trigger is present. So the moments between night and dawn, the end of evening, the soft twilight of Nargothrond lit by Elven lamps.
5. Do they prefer wide open spaces or enclosed spaces?
Open spaces. One of the reasons the caves along the Narog appealed to him so much was because of how vast many of the caverns are. There was no feeling of claustrophobia when he was guided through them. Originally answered here.
6. Some of their favourite flavours or foods
Much like Aegnor, he too loves the Telerin seaweed candy and Círdan will often send it with the merchants and messengers to Nargothrond. Honey, clover petals, freshly baked Atani bread, a tart and peppery leafy green that the Sindar often use, raspberries, red wine (he prefers his more dry than Aegnor does), and while he lived among Bëor's people he discovered he likes the flavor of pickled foods. Originally answered here.
7. What they smell like
Heather blossoms and wild meadowsweet
8. Their favourite scents
Sea salt in the wind, snowdrop flowers, damp soil (especially just after the rain), freshly risen bread dough, cedar oil.
9. A scent that makes them nostalgic
Rose water. Eärwen would use it after she washed each evening when he was a child in Alqualondë. Now it reminds him of nestling against her as she sang him to sleep with the sea breeze drifting in through the windows. Originally answered here.
10. A texture they hate
Touching silk or similar fabrics when his hands are rough from working with stone. It catches and sticks against the skin and it makes his spine crawl.
11. A texture they love
Freshly risen bread dough. He would watch his mother make bread when he was young and she always let him punch down the dough after it had risen. He would linger then and run his fingers over it, soft and warm and almost dry to the touch before it was kneaded. Occasionally he will make a loaf in Beleriand, going solely by the memory of his mother's work, and sit with the scent of the working yeast, with the touch of the risen dough, the lingering memory.
12. Their feelings on physical touch
Big fan of this. He is very affectionate in both word and demeanor, though he can also hide behind this when it comes to articulating or pressing into his genuine feelings.
13. Their ideal climate and weather
This is one I struggled to answer. He is so fascinated by the variations that I think he finds it hard to know for himself what his favorite is. He quickly grows attached to new places and environments and holds each in its own unique place of love and favoritism. However he is probably most relaxed in a climate that includes clearly demarcated seasons.
14. Their favourite type of music
The songs Eärwen would sing, held over from the Great March and the from the time the Falmari lingered on the shores of Middle-earth before setting out for Valinor. Later, it shifts to Atani dance music and the haunting melodies of the song-lore that Balan would sing.
15. A sound they can't stand
Notes that are off-pitch, especially from stringed instruments, will send a sharp pain through one of his back molars.
16. A sound that makes them sad
Water lapping against the shore. It opens up the feeling of gaping emptiness in his gut and a deep, insatiable longing for home.
17. What their voice sounds like
This one is surprisingly difficult! There is so much about him that is clear as day to me, but for some reason his voice has always been a bit elusive. I think...mid-tenor for speaking, a fairly wide range for singing, though I don't think he goes lower than baritone. Often you can tell there's a laugh just under the surface.
He imitates others' voices quite well, which I think comes from being very attuned to ósanwë. He can step into the familiarity of the other person's mind, in a sense, and the voice comes easily from that. It's a great party trick.
He once did this as a youth in Valinor when he and Turgon were nearly caught stealing a pie from the palace kitchen in Tirion. His imitation of Finarfin's voice from behind the closed door was so convincing that the attendant returned with compliments to the cook and consequently brought about a rather awkward conversation between said cook and the real Finarfin later that evening. FInarfin didn't have the heart to correct the situation and "un-compliment" the chef or to deny that he had missed the pies from his childhood so much that he snagged one immediately upon his arrival from Alqualondë, so he resigned himself to receiving a pie delivered to his chambers as a gift whenever he visited Tirion. On the first time a gift-pie was delivered, Finrod found a large slice waiting in his own chambers with a note in his father's handwriting: "for the young lord Arafinwë whose appetite is as keen as his scheming." Originally answered here.
18. The sounds they make when experiencing intense emotion
It's when he is feeling emotion and doesn't make any sound that you know it's of the intense variety. If he is angry and snips at you, you're fine. If he is angry and goes into icy silence. Well. That is not good.
19. Something that viscerally disgusts them
Rotten fruit. There is something about it that he can't quite articulate, but it gives him a gnawing sense of disgust and dread.
20. Something that makes their skin tingle
Watching someone else draw or paint. His father did not do much in the way of typical Noldorin craftsmanship (forgework, stonework, etc) but was a skilled artist. As a child, Finrod would watch him draw for hours and was always soothed by watching the details come together and each little element of stroke and shading merge into the whole. He has a very clear memory of watching Finarfin draw the design for the twined serpents that would become the badge of his house, from which Fingolfin drew up a mold and cast the ring.
21. How aware are they of their surroundings?
Very. He internalized a good bit of his father's role as attempted peace-keeper in the family and consequently was always on the alert for what could go wrong in any given situation, what tiny cues were being given, how the landscape (physically and emotionally) was laid. This stays with him as he grows into adulthood and can often exacerbate his anxiety. However it's very handy when attempting to quickly learn the customs/manners/habits of, say, a new species you just ran across in the woods.
22. Are they good at sensing the thoughts and emotions of others? How do they experience them?
Very good. Ósanwë is very strong for him and he feels others' emotions as a constant presence around him. Almost like background music to every situation or conversation: quiet and not the main focus, but insistently present and setting the melody of each interaction.
23. Do they have foresight? How do they experience it?
Yep! I think he experiences it primarily through a kind of gut knowledge that he can't always explain. The three examples we have of him explicitly noting an instance of foresight all seem to have that flavor: the exchange with Galadriel re his future oath, the Athrabeth where he references Aegnor's fate, and a snippet in The War of the Jewels (actually I am going to paste that in below because it is !!!)
Tumblr media
In each of these cases, he seems to know an outcome or general direction things will go, but not necessarily the specifics of how or why. In the Galadriel one, for instance, I think a lot of that was a rising sense of dread opening out in front of him with a gut certainty at the bottom of it that he would also be caught in an oath and all that he built would fall away. But I don't think he had any clarity on how that would happen, so the way it all unfolded was both a surprise and accompanied by a sinking feeling of recognition.
24. Do they have any sense-related fears or phobias?
Slipping. Mostly this is ice-based (a carryover from the Helcaraxë) but it shows up across the board - slipping on mud, things slipping from his grasp (literally or figuratively), his own mastery of self slipping from him so that he loses himself to anger/grief/etc.
25. Surprise NSFW sensory headcanon
ARGH I get so shy about answering nsfw questions but I said I would answer the whole list so uh he really likes the feel of Balan's beard against his inner thighs.
Tumblr media
Thanks so much for this ask! It was truly an undertaking, but SO much fun to work on and to have somewhere to get a lot of these out of my head and into an articulated form.
