Character study of Maeglin...
... with different facial expressions, if The Fall of Gondolin would be an animated series 😁. Would you watch it if I'd be the character designer ❤️?
While drawing this I listened to "Teenage Idle" by Marina and the Diamonds, it's soooo Maeglins song I think 💔 (though he's no teen in my drawings anymore, but still a young adult)

I will never be over that Tolkien wrote Maeglin the way he did. A victim of abuse, isolated from others since childhood, watched his father try to kill him in front of everyone, watched his mother take the blow and die in his stead, and then stuck living with a stranger who happens to be his uncle, in a city his father always told him was emblematic of the Noldor’s hubris that had led to their suffering.
Imprisoned in Gondolin like he was in the forests of Eöl. Alienated and isolated now by the nature of who he is and how different he is on sight. Pining unrequitedly for his cousin, a taboo he knows he shouldn’t cross and yet desperate for someone to call his own.
And even after ALL THAT, the moment Maeglin tried to force himself on Idril, Tolkein wrote him getting thrown out a window.
And that is just… legendary.
Tolkien really said “I don’t care what your sob story is. Incels get yeeted!”
Lessons to live by.

Another stained glass, of the house of Ñolofinwë
I did this months ago…I intended to include everyone but sooooo sorry argon I completely forgot u😭😭😭 and sorry to anairë and elenwë cuz this pic is mainly about the first age.
The one behind is Elrond with Turgon’s sword. This, Gandalf, was Glamdring, Foe-hammer that the king of Gondolin once wore.
I’ll post the house of Finarfin, other than that I run out of ideas😭

"But Maeglin prospered and grew great among the Gondolindrim, praised by all, and high in the favour of Turgon; for if he would learn eagerly and swiftly all that he might, he had much also to teach."

Learning time with Celebrimbor and Maeglin!
What Do you mean Celegorm did not hunt Eol? Of course he did.
I read somewhere about Celegorm going after Eol and getting Maeglin, and I liked the idea a lot. I'm 100% sure that Curufin would give them weird daily lessons.

It's kinda funny how Silmarillion fans characterize Maeglin as this poor misunderstood goth kid who was ostracized by Gondolin, when Tolkien goes out of his way to describe how Maeglin was beloved of both his family and the people of Gondolin and that he rose high in honor and acclaim, but Idril was the only one who mistrusted him and that was because he was in creepy obsessive incesty love with her.
Like, it's a pretty straightforward case of "this guy has so much good stuff and has so much going for him but was corrupted by greed for the one thing he couldn't have". It's the same thing that ruined Feanor and his sons and so many others.
I'm not saying that what was done to him by Morgoth wasn't a tragedy, but he was also the architect of his own destruction.
